IB Physics Tutor in Mohammed Bin Rashid City

Looking for an IB Physics tutor in Mohammed Bin Rashid City usually starts with a timetable problem rather than a physics problem. The school day at Hartland, North London Collegiate and Kent College finishes between 15:00 and 15:45, the bus takes another twenty to forty minutes through Al Khail Road traffic, and by the time a Year 12 student is at a desk it is close to 17:00. IB Gram schedules one-to-one IB Physics lessons live online, in Gulf Standard Time, in that window — and the first lesson is free.

IB & IGCSE in Mohammed Bin Rashid City

Why physics tuition in MBR City is a scheduling question first

Mohammed Bin Rashid City is not one neighbourhood. It is a band of districts — District One, Sobha Hartland, Meydan, Nad Al Sheba — stitched together by Al Khail Road and Ras Al Khor Road, with a school inside the boundary in some districts and a twenty-minute drive to one in others. That geography is the whole reason a physics tutor search here behaves differently from the same search in a dense older area. The parent typing it is rarely short of candidates. They are short of a slot in the evening when a specialist is awake, free, and able to teach the Higher Level fields topic rather than general science.

Work the day backwards and the problem is obvious. A secondary school in Sobha Hartland releases students at roughly 15:00 to 15:30. A bus serving the villa plots in District One or the Meydan side adds twenty to forty minutes, longer on a weekday when the Al Khail interchange is slow. Co-curricular commitments — a match, a rehearsal, an MYP service project — push the real arrival home to 16:30 on at least two evenings a week. A physics session booked at 16:00 does not exist in practice. A session at 17:00 or 19:00 does, and it is the one that survives a full term.

Then there is the subject itself. DP Physics is not a subject a generalist can hold. The current guide is organised into five themes, running from space, time and motion through to nuclear and quantum physics, with additional Higher Level content folded inside each theme rather than bolted on at the end. A tutor who is comfortable with mechanics and uncomfortable with fields will carry a student happily through the first year and then stall in exactly the term that matters. A Higher Level student needs someone who can move between an induced-emf question and a radioactive-decay calculation without changing register.

The honest position on delivery: IB Gram does not send tutors to houses in Mohammed Bin Rashid City, or anywhere else in the UAE. Visiting tutors are an India-only service. Physics support here is delivered as one-to-one live video, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time, with a shared whiteboard for working and screen sharing for past-paper questions. That is a limit stated plainly, and it is also what makes the subject match possible: the pool a MBR City family draws from is not the set of physics teachers who happen to live within a twenty-minute drive of District One.

What follows is built around the clock. Which schools this area actually feeds and when they finish; what time a physics session can realistically start on each weekday; how the DP Physics assessment is weighted so the hours go where the marks are; what the Dubai market charges for the alternatives; and what a tutor may and may not do with a Scientific Investigation under IB academic-honesty rules.

At a glance

  • Secondary finish times across the MBR City catchment cluster between 15:00 and 15:45
  • A realistic first physics slot is 16:45 to 17:00 on a bus day, 16:00 if collected by car
  • Paper 2 carries 44% of the DP Physics grade at both SL and HL
  • Higher Level content sits inside themes A to E, not in a separate section
  • Market rates for a specialist IB science tutor in Dubai run roughly AED 200 to 450 an hour
  • Lessons are live video in Gulf Standard Time; there are no UAE home visits
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Physics appears in three different shapes across the IB continuum, and a family in MBR City may be dealing with any of them depending on which district school their child attends. The notes below say what the programme asks of a physics student and what that means for the week.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Physics sits in Group 4 and is taken at Standard or Higher Level. Both routes share the same five themes and the same Scientific Investigation; Higher Level adds depth inside each theme and a longer, more demanding Paper 2. Students also carry Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS alongside six subjects, which is why a physics session that drifts into coursework triage rarely helps anyone.

In the MBR City catchment, DP Physics is taught at the IB continuum schools on the Sobha Hartland side and at IB schools a short drive out towards Nad Al Sheba and Al Jaddaf. Dubai sat roughly 7% of its private-school pupils on an IB curriculum in 2024-25, so a physics cohort in a single Dubai IB school is often small — twelve to twenty students — and a child who falls behind has few peers at the same point to work with.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Physics is taught inside MYP Sciences rather than as a separate subject until the later years, assessed against four criteria covering knowledge and understanding, inquiry and design, processing and evaluating, and the impact of science. A student arriving in DP1 from MYP5 has usually written more about method than about mechanics, which is a predictable and fixable gap.

The continuum schools inside MBR City run MYP straight into DP, so a Sobha Hartland student may never sit an external examination until DP1 mock season. The first timed physics paper they attempt under exam conditions is frequently their DP1 November internal assessment, and the shock of that is a common reason families in District One start looking for a tutor in Year 12 term one.

CPAges 16-19

Career-related Programme

The Career-related Programme pairs DP courses with a career-related study. Where a CP student takes DP Physics as one of their Diploma courses, the physics requirement is identical to a full Diploma student's — same themes, same papers, same Scientific Investigation — but the surrounding workload is shaped differently.

CP is offered by a minority of Dubai IB schools, so an MBR City family on this route often has fewer local peers and relies more heavily on subject-specialist support outside school. Confirm with the school's IB coordinator which DP courses their CP cohort is permitted to combine before planning a physics programme around it.

ALAges 16-18 · Years 12-13

A Level Physics, for comparison

Several British-curriculum schools in and around MBR City run A Level Physics instead of DP. The content overlaps heavily — mechanics, waves, fields, nuclear physics — but the assessment model does not. A Level places more weight on externally assessed practical skills; DP places 20% of the grade on a single student-designed investigation.

This matters for MBR City families choosing between a British school in Sobha Hartland and an IB continuum school two minutes away. If your child prefers one long self-directed project to a series of practical examinations, the DP model suits them better. We tutor both routes, but a tutor should know which one your child's school actually enters them for before the first lesson.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Physics is rarely the only subject in play. Below are the Group 4 and Group 5 courses MBR City families most often pair with physics support, with a note on what each one assesses and where marks reliably leak away.

Physics

SL and HL

Five themes: space, time and motion; the particulate nature of matter; wave behaviour; fields; nuclear and quantum physics. Marks are lost less on recall than on unit handling, significant figures, and failing to read the command term. 'Deduce' and 'state' are not the same instruction and are not marked the same way.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

The usual partner to HL Physics. Calculus fluency, trigonometric manipulation and vector work underpin half the physics syllabus; a student weak in AA often reads as weak in physics when the actual gap is algebraic.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Taken by physics students at some Dubai schools where AA is oversubscribed. The statistics and modelling content helps with data analysis in the Scientific Investigation, but the lighter calculus load leaves gaps in the fields and quantum themes that need closing deliberately.

Chemistry

SL and HL

Shares energetics, bonding and the data-and-measurement strand with physics. Students who sit both often reuse one laboratory habit across two investigations; the criteria reward it in one subject and penalise it in the other.

Biology

SL and HL

The third Group 4 option, chosen by physics students aiming at biomedical engineering or medicine. Statistical treatment of data is more central than in physics, and students cross-contaminating the two styles of conclusion lose marks in both.

Computer Science

SL and HL

A frequent fourth-subject pairing in the MBR City continuum schools. Overlap with physics is thin on content but thick on logic; students who can trace an algorithm usually handle multi-step physics derivations better than their grade suggests.

Design Technology

SL and HL

Group 4 alternative with a design cycle rather than an experiment at its centre. Where a school offers both, a physics-minded student sometimes finds the DT project easier to control and the physics paper harder to time.

Theory of Knowledge

Core

Physics students draw heavily on TOK when asked about the limits of a model. The essay and exhibition are assessed separately from physics, but a physics tutor who can explain why a model is useful rather than true makes the TOK essay less abstract.

Extended Essay in Physics

Core · 4,000 words

A physics EE needs a researchable question with a measurable variable, not an interesting topic. Most failures happen at the question stage, months before any data is collected, and that is where supervision earns its keep.

Environmental Systems and Societies

SL and HL

Counts for Group 3 or Group 4 and appeals to students who want a science without the mathematical load of physics. Worth knowing about if a physics choice is proving to be the wrong fit in DP1 term one, while a change is still permitted.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways MBR City families run physics support, all delivered as live one-to-one video in Gulf Standard Time. Which one fits depends on where your child sits in the two-year cycle, not on budget alone.

Weekly one-to-one, term-time

A fixed sixty or ninety-minute slot each week, scheduled after the school run and held for the term. This is the format that moves a DP1 student from the middle of the cohort to the top of it, because the gains in physics come from repeated contact with the same examiner-style questions rather than from a burst of revision.

  • Same tutor, same weekday, same GST slot for the whole term
  • Session notes shared after each lesson so parents can see the topic sequence
  • Homework set from past-paper questions, marked against the published command terms
  • Slot held through half-term so the rhythm survives the Dubai holiday calendar

Scientific Investigation supervision

A short block of sessions focused on the internally assessed investigation, which carries 20% of the DP Physics grade at both levels. The work stays the student's own throughout: the tutor interrogates the research question, the variables and the uncertainty treatment, and gives feedback on the student's own draft against criteria A to D.

  • Research question stress-tested before data collection begins
  • Uncertainty and error propagation taught rather than corrected
  • Feedback keyed to the four criteria, each worth six marks
  • Report stays under the 3,000-word ceiling without losing the evaluation section

Pre-examination intensive

A concentrated run of sessions in the weeks before the May session, built around timed papers rather than content delivery. Suited to a student whose knowledge is broadly sound but whose Paper 2 timing collapses, which is the single most common profile we see arriving from Dubai IB schools in the spring.

  • Two or three sessions a week through the final revision block
  • Full papers sat to time, then marked and walked through question by question
  • Topic triage driven by the student's own mock paper, not a generic checklist
  • Can shift to post-Iftar timing where the revision block overlaps Ramadan

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Mohammed Bin Rashid City

01

What the MBR City school day actually leaves you

  • Walk-home students in Sobha Hartland: earliest realistic start 16:00
  • Bus students in District One and Meydan: earliest realistic start 16:45
  • Students with two co-curriculars: plan for two sessions a week, not three
  • Weekend morning slots suit ninety-minute Paper 2 practice better than weekday evenings

An IB Physics tutor in Mohammed Bin Rashid City has to fit into a window that is narrower than most families expect. Secondary schools in and around the district release students between 15:00 and 15:45. Add a bus route and the arrival home lands between 15:40 and 16:30 depending on the district. Add one co-curricular commitment and two evenings a week collapse entirely. The usable slot for serious physics work, for most students in this area, is 17:00 to 19:30 on three or four weekdays, plus a weekend morning.

That constraint is worth naming because it changes what good scheduling looks like. A tutor who offers 16:00 to a District One family is offering a slot the student will miss or arrive at exhausted. A tutor who offers 20:00 is offering a slot where retention falls off for a fifteen-year-old who started at 07:00. The sessions that hold for a full term, in our experience across the Dubai corridor, start between 16:45 and 18:30 and run sixty minutes on a school night, ninety at weekends.

There is a second constraint most families only notice in week three. Thursday evening is the weakest slot in the Dubai week, because the weekend starts on Friday and a student who knows it is in no state to work through a fields derivation at 18:00 on Thursday. Monday and Tuesday are the strongest. If you can only hold one weekly session, put it early in the week and keep Saturday morning free for timed paper practice.

The table below sets out the schools the MBR City districts actually feed, their approximate finish, and the earliest physics slot that is realistic once travel is counted. Finish times are indicative and change with year group and term; confirm your child's own timetable before fixing a slot. The point of the table is the shape, not the minute.

How DP Physics is assessed, and where the hours should go

A DP Physics grade is built from two external papers and one internally assessed investigation. Paper 1 splits into a multiple-choice section and a data-analysis section. Paper 2 is short and extended response. The Scientific Investigation is a single student-designed report. Higher Level and Standard Level share this structure; what differs is the depth of content and the length of the papers.

The weightings matter for how a family spends its tuition hours. Paper 2 carries 44% of the grade, which is more than Paper 1 and more than twice the investigation. Yet the investigation is the component families most often buy help for, because it has a deadline and a visible document, while Paper 2 technique has neither. A tutor who lets the whole programme become coursework supervision is spending your money on a fifth of the grade.

Students lose marks on Paper 2 in patterns that are diagnosable rather than mysterious. Command terms are ignored — a question asking the student to 'deduce' is answered as though it asked them to 'state'. Units are dropped in the final line of a multi-step calculation. Significant figures are carried through inconsistently. Graph gradients are read off without checking the axis scale. None of that is a knowledge gap, and all of it is cheaper to fix than a syllabus theme.

Weightings and durations below reflect the current DP Physics guide. The IB revises subject guides on a cycle, and ibo.org blocks automated checking, so confirm the structure your child is entered for with their school's IB coordinator or the current guide itself before planning around it.

03

The five themes, and which ones break students

  • Theme A: mechanics, usually the strongest area on arrival from IGCSE or MYP
  • Theme B: thermal and gas behaviour, where unit errors concentrate
  • Theme C: waves and superposition, fixable with timed practice
  • Theme D: fields, the single largest HL failure point
  • Theme E: nuclear and quantum, taught late and revised in a hurry

The current guide organises physics into five themes rather than a long list of topics, with Higher Level content sitting inside each theme instead of in an appendix. Theme A covers space, time and motion. Theme B covers the particulate nature of matter. Theme C covers wave behaviour. Theme D covers fields. Theme E covers nuclear and quantum physics.

In the Dubai cohorts we see, the failure points cluster. Theme A goes well, because mechanics is what students arrive from MYP or IGCSE already able to do. Theme C is manageable with practice. Theme D is where a Higher Level student either consolidates or comes apart: gravitational, electric and magnetic fields are taught as three analogous structures, and a student who learns them as three unrelated topics triples their revision load and still misreads the questions. Theme E compounds the problem, because it arrives late in DP2 when revision for everything else is already underway.

This has a practical consequence for an MBR City family deciding when to start. A tutor engaged in DP1 term two can teach fields properly the first time. A tutor engaged in DP2 February is repairing fields while also running Paper 2 technique and finishing an investigation, in the same ten weeks. Both are possible. One is considerably cheaper and less unpleasant for the student.

A useful test before committing to a tutor: ask them to explain, in the trial lesson, why the inverse-square form appears in both gravitation and electrostatics and what that similarity does and does not let a student assume. A physics specialist answers that in two minutes with a diagram. A generalist changes the subject.

04

What physics tuition costs in this part of Dubai

Start with the monthly figure, because that is the number a family actually budgets. Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 rate table puts a weekly one-hour session at roughly AED 240 to 600 a month at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle, and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist examination-year support. For a Higher Level physics student in DP2, the top band is the honest one to plan against, because the tutor you need is a subject specialist and specialists are not priced like generalists.

The hourly figures behind those monthly bands are published across the Dubai market, unevenly. EdFlik advertises from AED 45 to 65 an hour for budget online tutoring and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52. Unitors publishes IGCSE tuition from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. TutorChase quotes AED 270. Bestimate puts in-home one-to-one visits at AED 180 to 350 and specialist IB or A Level tutoring at AED 200 to 450 or more. BartyED, at the premium end, publishes AED 650.

Those are market rates from the providers' own published pages, not IB Gram prices. We do not publish a physics rate card on this page, because the right answer depends on level, session length and how many weeks are left before the examination session. The free trial lesson exists so you can judge the teaching before any of that is discussed. What the table does is let you check whether a quote you have been given sits inside the market or outside it.

One figure worth holding alongside the tuition numbers: KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that there would be no increase in private-school fees in Dubai for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package. School fees are flat. Tuition spending is the variable a family still controls, which is an argument for spending it deliberately rather than early.

Online physics versus a visiting tutor in MBR City

The comparison a parent in District One is really making is between two different things that both get called tutoring. One is a person who drives to the villa. The other is a subject specialist on a video call. On physics specifically, the second wins for reasons that have nothing to do with price.

Physics teaching is drawing. A field diagram, a free-body diagram, a ray path, a graph with its gradient marked — these are the medium of the subject. A shared digital whiteboard records all of it, keeps it after the session, and lets the student scroll back to the derivation they half-followed three weeks ago. A paper notebook on a kitchen table does not. For a subject assessed partly on data analysis, a screen that can hold a spreadsheet, a graph and a past-paper question simultaneously is a working advantage, not a compromise.

The pool argument is the stronger one. A visiting tutor must live within a drivable radius of MBR City and be free at 17:00. That intersection, for Higher Level Physics specifically, is small. Online, the constraint is only the clock. A family in Sobha Hartland can work with a physics specialist who teaches fields and quantum at Higher Level every week, rather than the nearest available science graduate.

To be unambiguous: IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai or anywhere in the UAE. We are not quietly arranging them. Visiting tutors are an India-only service, and the figures in the in-home column below are what the Dubai market charges for something we do not sell.

The physics year counted backwards from the May session

UAE IB schools sit the May examination session. Working backwards from it is the only way to tell whether a physics plan has enough weeks in it, and it is the exercise almost no tutoring page performs for a parent.

The fixed points are not the examination dates. They are the school's internal deadlines: the investigation draft deadline, the final investigation submission, the DP2 mock window, and the school's own deadline for predicted grades. Those are set by your child's IB coordinator and they differ between Dubai schools by several weeks. Ask for them in writing at the start of DP2 and build the physics plan around them rather than around a generic revision calendar.

IB session and results dates are not published on this page. ibo.org returns an error to automated checking, so no IB date in this project has been confirmed from the IB itself, and a wrong date is worse than no date. Confirm every IB deadline with the school's IB coordinator or on ibo.org directly. For Cambridge and Pearson candidates — relevant where a sibling is sitting IGCSE Physics — Cambridge runs June and November series in the UAE, and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs May/June and November.

The practical shape of a physics year, then, looks like this. DP1 term one is content and laboratory habits. DP1 term two and three is where fields should be taught properly and where the investigation question should be settled. DP2 term one is the investigation and the first full timed papers. DP2 term two is Paper 2 technique and theme E. The final weeks are timed papers and nothing else.

What a tutor may and may not do with your child's investigation

  • Permitted: question stress-testing, method critique, feedback on the student's own draft
  • Permitted: teaching uncertainty, error propagation and graphing technique
  • Not permitted: writing, rewriting or editing to completion any part of the report
  • Not permitted: supplying a research question or processing the student's data
  • Test it: can your child explain every sentence in their own evaluation?

The Scientific Investigation is worth 20% of the DP Physics grade and it must be the student's own work. That is not a soft expectation. IB academic-honesty rules make submitting work that is not the student's own a malpractice matter, and the consequence falls on the student, not on whoever helped.

A tutor may do a great deal inside that boundary, and the useful ones do. They can interrogate a research question until it is narrow enough to control. They can teach uncertainty propagation as physics rather than as arithmetic. They can read the student's own draft and say which of the four criteria is underserved. They can explain why an evaluation section that lists limitations without weighing them scores poorly. They can teach the student to graph their own data properly.

A tutor may not write any part of the report, rewrite sentences into their own prose, supply a research question wholesale, process the student's data for them, or produce the evaluation. IB Gram does not offer any of that, and a provider that does is selling your child an expulsion risk. The essay mills in this market are explicit about it — one Dubai-facing site advertises completed Internal Assessments outright — and the distinction between them and a tutor is the entire point of asking the question.

The practical version for a parent: if the finished document contains a sentence your child could not have written and cannot explain, the line has been crossed. Ask them to talk you through their own evaluation section. If they can, the help was teaching.

08

Is the tutor legally allowed to teach in the UAE?

This is a question MBR City parents ask less often than they should, and it has a clear answer. Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is administered by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. It is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, university students, and school students aged 15 to 18.

MoHRE's own service page for it is titled 'Issuance of a New Work Permit — Private Tutor Licensing', lists no fee, and states a two-working-day completion time through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule has been published, so no amount should be quoted to you; a figure circulating online could not be verified against any official source.

Two further points specific to this area. In Abu Dhabi, ADEK's professional-ethics rules bar private and charter school staff from paid tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit's code of conduct carries a similar restriction — so the arrangement some families reach for, their child's own class teacher privately, is the one to avoid. And a tutoring operation with premises and staff in Dubai is a different legal entity from an individual tutor: it needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute. IB Gram does not hold one and does not describe itself as KHDA approved.

What this means in practice for a physics engagement: ask any individual tutor whether they hold the MoHRE private tuition permit, and verify what you are told. It costs nothing to hold, so there is no good reason not to have one.

The mandatory UAE subjects sitting alongside physics

  • Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are required in all Dubai private schools
  • Separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs are required, not optional
  • Instructional time is counted in 40-minute units, with 25 minutes the advised minimum lesson
  • Teachers of Arabic and Islamic Education need the appropriate KHDA approval to teach them
  • Plan the physics slot around the real timetable, not the published finish time

A physics plan that ignores the rest of the timetable will fail on contact with the week. Every private school in Dubai, whatever international curriculum it is licensed for, must teach Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies. KHDA's own mandatory-subjects guidance confirms this and required implementation by the start of the 2025-26 academic year, or April 2026 for schools whose year begins in April.

The organisational detail matters because it eats timetable space. KHDA requires separate classes by group: for Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, schools must organise separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs, and combined classes for both groups are prohibited because of the different curriculum expectations and language of instruction. Instructional time is calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit, schools may vary lesson length provided weekly totals are met, and it is advised that no mandatory-subject lesson runs shorter than 25 minutes.

For an MBR City family, the consequence is arithmetic. A DP student carrying six subjects plus TOK plus the mandatory UAE subjects has fewer free periods than the timetable suggests, which is why after-school hours are contested and why a physics slot booked at the wrong time gets dropped first. It is also why some students arrive at a physics session having had no break since 07:00 — worth knowing before you book 16:00 and wonder why nothing lands.

One further constraint on content: for the mandatory UAE subjects, the use of any different or additional content without prior permission from the Ministry of Education is prohibited. Where a family wants Arabic support alongside physics, it has to be support with the school's own prescribed material, not a parallel course.

Starting physics support from MBR City, and what happens if nobody is free

  • Tell us the school, year, level and your two best evening windows in GST
  • Free trial lesson on a live topic, taught by the proposed specialist
  • If no HL specialist is free in your window, we say so and offer alternatives
  • Tutor changes after the trial are made on request, without a discussion

The process is short and the first lesson costs nothing. You tell us the school, the year group, the level — Standard or Higher — and the two or three evening windows that genuinely work after your district's school run. We match a DP Physics specialist to the level and to the slot. The trial lesson runs as a real lesson on a real topic, usually whatever your child is stuck on that week, and you decide afterwards.

The part most providers leave out: sometimes the match is not immediate. Higher Level Physics in a specific evening window is a narrow request, and if no specialist is free in your slot we say so rather than offering a general science tutor and hoping. The options then are a different slot, a short wait, or a weekend session. We would rather tell you that in the first conversation than three weeks into a programme that is not working.

Three things are worth having ready before the first conversation, because they shorten it considerably. The most recent marked physics assessment, with the marks per question still visible. The school's scheme of work for the year, which the science department will usually send on request. And the internal deadline dates for the Scientific Investigation draft and final submission, which differ between Dubai schools by several weeks and which no generic revision plan can account for.

If the match is wrong after the trial, say so and we change the tutor. There is no argument to be had about it; a physics student who does not trust their tutor will not ask the question they are embarrassed about, and that question is usually the one holding the grade down. The point of the trial is to find that out before money changes hands.

Where we tutor

Which districts of MBR City we schedule around

Mohammed Bin Rashid City covers several distinct districts, and the drive home differs enough between them to change what time a session can start. These are the areas whose school runs we plan against, plus the neighbouring communities in the same corridor.

District One

Low-density villa plots around the crystal lagoon, with no secondary school inside the plot boundary. Families drive or bus out to Sobha Hartland or Meydan, which puts the realistic session start at 16:45 on a school day.

Sobha Hartland

The school-dense district of MBR City, with both British and IB continuum provision inside walking or short-shuttle distance. A student who walks home can start a physics session at 16:00, which is the earliest slot anywhere in the area.

Meydan

Spread between the racecourse side and the newer residential clusters. Travel time is short in distance but unpredictable during event weekends, so we avoid booking a fixed Friday-evening slot for Meydan families.

Nad Al Sheba

Villa communities feeding both IB and British secondary schools nearby. The run is short, but many families here combine it with a younger sibling's primary pick-up, so the usable window opens around 16:30.

Downtown Dubai

Apartment living, a short hop up Al Khail or Sheikh Zayed Road. Students here often stay at school for activities rather than return and go out again, so later slots from 18:00 work better than earlier ones.

Business Bay

High-rise density with heavy school-bus coverage. Buses serving Business Bay towers typically run long routes with multiple stops, so a 17:15 start is safer than a 16:30 one.

Al Jaddaf

Directly across Ras Al Khor from the MBR City districts and home to an IB continuum school. Families straddle the two areas, and physics cohorts often include students from both sides of the creek.

Al Quoz

Mixed industrial and residential, with several Indian-curriculum and British schools. Finish times here skew earlier, which makes Al Quoz one of the few parts of the corridor where a 15:45 physics session is genuinely feasible.

Culture Village

Al Jaddaf's waterfront side, a short drive to the creek-side schools. Small resident population, so local tutor supply for a niche subject like HL Physics is thin and online matching does the heavy lifting.

Al Quoz 4

Residential pocket with good road access to both Al Khail and Sheikh Zayed Road. Useful for families who want a weekend morning physics session rather than a weekday evening one.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Mohammed Bin Rashid City

Sobha Hartland and the MBR City districts

The school cluster closest to District One and Sobha Hartland, running both British and IB continuum provision. A physics student here may be sitting DP Physics or A Level Physics depending which side of the district they attend, and the first job of any tutor is to confirm which.

  • Hartland International School
  • North London Collegiate School Dubai
  • Kent College Dubai
  • GEMS Modern Academy

The creek side and the central corridor

Schools reached from the Meydan and Nad Al Sheba sides of MBR City, and from Al Jaddaf across Ras Al Khor. Travel times from the villa districts to these schools run fifteen to thirty minutes outside peak, which is what pushes the usable tuition window past 16:30.

  • Swiss International Scientific School Dubai
  • Jumeirah College
  • JSS Private School
  • Credence High School
  • GEMS Our Own Indian School

Named schools are listed as context for the local education ecosystem; no affiliation, endorsement or partnership with IB Gram is implied.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the timetable, not just the subject

School, year group, Standard or Higher Level, and the two or three windows that survive your district's school run. A District One family and a Sobha Hartland family have different usable slots, and getting this right at the start prevents most cancellations later.

  2. 02

We match a DP Physics specialist

Matching is on level and on theme confidence, with fields and quantum checked specifically because they are where Higher Level students come unstuck. If nobody suitable is free in your window, we tell you rather than substituting a generalist.

  3. 03

Free trial lesson, on a real topic

The trial is taught, not sold. Bring whatever your child is stuck on this week — a Paper 2 question, a graph they cannot interpret, an investigation question that will not narrow down. You watch how it is handled and decide afterwards.

  4. 04

Fix the slot and the sequence

Once the match is right, the slot is held for the term and the tutor sets a topic order against your child's own school scheme of work and internal deadlines. Session notes go out after each lesson so you can see where the hours went.

  5. 05

    Review against the mock paper

After the DP2 mock, the plan changes. Topic triage comes from the student's own marked paper rather than a generic revision list, and the final weeks move to timed papers only.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Scheduled around the MBR City clock

Slots are set in Gulf Standard Time against the real finish times of the schools this area feeds, not against a generic after-school assumption. A session at 16:45 that happens every week beats a session at 16:00 that half the time does not.

Subject depth, not general science

DP Physics at Higher Level needs a tutor comfortable in theme D and theme E. Matching checks that specifically, because fields is where the grade is usually decided and it is the topic a generalist quietly avoids.

The investigation stays your child's work

We coach the research question, the uncertainty treatment and the evaluation against criteria A to D, and we give feedback on the student's own draft. We do not write, rewrite or edit coursework to completion, and we say so plainly because the alternative is a malpractice risk for the student.

Market rates published, not hidden

The AED bands on this page come from providers' own published pages with the source named. Three of the six main competitor pages in this market publish no price at all. You should be able to tell whether a quote is inside the market before you accept it.

A free trial before anything is agreed

The first lesson is a real lesson with the proposed tutor and costs nothing. If the fit is wrong, the tutor changes. No grade or score is promised, by us or by any tutor working through us.

Honest about what we do not do

There are no IB Gram home visits in the UAE and no UAE office. We hold no KHDA, ADEK, MoE or IB accreditation and do not imply one. Those are limits worth knowing before you choose, not after.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Mohammed Bin Rashid City: your questions answered

Can I get an IB Physics tutor in Mohammed Bin Rashid City who fits around the school run?+

Yes, and the slot matters more than most families expect. Secondary schools serving MBR City finish between 15:00 and 15:45, and a bus from District One or Meydan adds twenty to forty minutes. A session starting at 16:45 or 17:00 is realistic on a school night; one at 16:00 generally is not unless your child walks home from Sobha Hartland. Lessons are one-to-one live video scheduled in Gulf Standard Time, so there is no travel at either end. IB Gram does not send tutors to UAE addresses; visiting tutors are an India-only service.

Which schools near MBR City does an IB Physics tutor usually work with?+

The district itself contains British and IB continuum provision on the Sobha Hartland side, with further IB and British schools a short drive out through Nad Al Sheba and across Ras Al Khor into Al Jaddaf. Students we support attend schools including Hartland International School, North London Collegiate School Dubai, Kent College Dubai, GEMS Modern Academy and Swiss International Scientific School Dubai. These are named as local context only; no affiliation is implied. The first thing a tutor should confirm is whether your child sits DP Physics or A Level Physics, because the assessment models differ substantially.

What time of day do physics sessions actually work for a District One family?+

Between 16:45 and 18:30 on three or four weekdays, plus a weekend morning if you want ninety-minute Paper 2 practice. District One has no secondary school inside the plot boundary, so students travel out and back, and the arrival home lands around 16:15 to 16:30 on a bus day. Add a co-curricular commitment and two evenings disappear entirely. Sessions that start after 20:00 tend to lose retention for a fifteen or sixteen-year-old who began the day at 07:00, which is why we recommend fewer, better-placed sessions over more frequent ones.

How is DP Physics weighted between the papers and the investigation?+

Paper 1, which combines multiple choice with a data-analysis section, carries 36% of the grade. Paper 2, short and extended response, carries 44%. The internally assessed Scientific Investigation carries 20%. Those proportions hold at both Standard and Higher Level; what changes is content depth and paper duration, with HL papers running longer. Because Paper 2 is the largest single component, a tuition programme that becomes coursework supervision is spending most of your money on a fifth of the grade. Confirm the current structure with your child's IB coordinator, since the IB revises subject guides on a cycle.

Why do so many Higher Level physics students struggle with fields?+

Because gravitational, electric and magnetic fields are taught as three analogous structures, and a student who learns them as three unrelated topics triples the revision load while still misreading the questions. Theme D also arrives when the DP2 workload is already heavy, so there is little slack to fix it. The diagnostic question is whether a student can say why an inverse-square relationship appears in both gravitation and electrostatics, and what that similarity does not let them assume. A physics specialist answers that with a diagram in two minutes. It is a reasonable thing to ask in a trial lesson.

What does a specialist IB Physics tutor cost per hour in Dubai?+

Market rates for an IB or A Level subject specialist in Dubai run roughly AED 200 to 450 an hour, with TutorChase publishing AED 270 and Bestimate's 2026 rate table showing AED 200 to 450 or more. Qualified online subject tutors sit lower, with Unitors publishing IB tuition from AED 200. Budget online options start much lower, from AED 33 to 65 at EdFlik and Tutopiya, but rarely cover Higher Level Paper 2 technique. Those are the providers' own published figures, not IB Gram prices. We quote after a free trial, because the right answer depends on level and weeks remaining.

Is online physics tuition really as good as a tutor in the room?+

For physics specifically, the screen is an advantage rather than a compromise. The subject is taught through diagrams, graphs and derivations, and a shared digital whiteboard keeps all of it after the session so a student can scroll back to a derivation they half-followed weeks earlier. A spreadsheet, a graph and a past-paper question can sit open together, which matters for a component assessed on data analysis. The stronger argument is the tutor pool: online, your child works with a Higher Level physics specialist rather than the nearest available science graduate free at 17:00.

Can your tutors help with the IB Physics Scientific Investigation?+

Yes, within clear limits. A tutor can stress-test the research question until it has one controllable variable, teach uncertainty and error propagation properly, and give feedback on your child's own draft against the four assessment criteria, each worth six marks. What a tutor must never do is write, rewrite or edit any part of the report, supply the research question, or process the data. The work must be the student's own under IB academic-honesty rules, and the consequence of a breach falls on the student. If the finished report contains a sentence your child cannot explain, the line has been crossed.

My child has six weeks until the physics exam. Is it too late to start?+

Not too late, but the plan has to change shape. Six weeks is not enough to teach theme D from scratch and also fix Paper 2 timing, so the first session should be diagnostic: a marked mock paper, read for patterns rather than scores. In most cases the quickest gains are technical rather than topical — command terms, units carried through the final line, consistent significant figures, reading a gradient off a scaled axis. Those are worth marks across every theme. Content gaps get triaged by weighting, with Paper 2 topics prioritised because that paper carries 44%.

Do private physics tutors in Dubai need a licence?+

Yes. Private tutoring in the UAE requires a private tuition work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and issued through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. It is granted free of charge for two years, and eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Anyone tutoring without one is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, though no fine schedule has been published, so treat any specific amount you see quoted online with suspicion. Ask a tutor to show you their permit.

Is it a problem if the physics tutor also teaches at my child's school?+

It is the arrangement to avoid. The MoHRE private tuition permit carries a code of conduct that bars serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school, and in Abu Dhabi ADEK's professional-ethics rules prohibit private and charter school staff from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school. Beyond the regulatory position, it puts your child's class teacher in the position of marking work they were paid to prepare. A separate specialist with no stake in the internal grade is a cleaner arrangement and usually a more candid one about where the student actually is.

How many physics sessions a week does a DP2 student in MBR City usually need?+

One well-placed weekly session through DP1 and most of DP2, rising to two or three a week in the final revision block. The reason is that physics gains come from repeated contact with examiner-style questions rather than from volume. A single ninety-minute weekend session often outperforms two rushed weekday hours for a student whose school day ends at 15:30 and who gets home at 16:30. Families who start in DP1 term two consistently need fewer total hours than families who start in DP2 February, because fields can be taught properly the first time rather than repaired under deadline.

Does the Dubai school calendar change when physics revision should happen?+

It does, in two ways. The mandatory UAE subjects — Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies — occupy timetable space in every Dubai private school whatever curriculum it is licensed for, so a DP student has fewer free periods than the published timetable suggests. And where the pre-examination revision block overlaps Ramadan, session timing usually has to move, commonly to a post-Iftar slot. We schedule around both. The fixed points to plan from are your school's own internal deadlines for the investigation, the mocks and predicted grades, which differ between Dubai schools by several weeks.

Are IB exam dates and results dates published on this page?+

No, deliberately. ibo.org blocks automated checking, so no IB session or results date in this project has been confirmed from the IB directly, and a date a parent acts on has to be right. UAE IB schools sit the May session; confirm the exact window, the upload deadlines and the results date with your school's IB coordinator or on ibo.org. For a sibling sitting IGCSE Physics, the position is clearer: Cambridge International runs June and November series in the UAE, and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs May/June and November, with the November 2026 final timetable running to 19 November 2026.

Will a physics tutor follow my child's school scheme of work or their own?+

Your child's. The topic order in a Dubai IB school is set by its own science department and the sequence varies between schools, so a tutor working to a generic plan will teach fields in February when the class covered it in October. We ask for the school's scheme of work, the internal deadline dates and the most recent marked assessment at the start, then set the session sequence against those. Where a student is clearly behind the class rather than ahead of it, catching up on the taught sequence takes priority over revision of material not yet reached.

What happens if no Higher Level physics specialist is free in our window?+

We tell you. Higher Level Physics in one specific evening slot is a narrow request, and if nobody suitable is available we would rather say so than offer a general science tutor and let you discover the gap in week four. The realistic options at that point are a different weekday, a weekend morning, or a short wait for a slot to open. No competitor page in this market discloses a coverage limit at all, which is why it is worth asking directly before you commit, of us or of anybody else.

Book a free physics lesson in a slot that survives the school run

If you are looking for an IB Physics tutor in Mohammed Bin Rashid City, start with the clock. Tell us the school, the year group, whether your child sits Standard or Higher Level, and the two evening windows that genuinely work once the bus from Sobha Hartland or Kent College has done its route. We will match a DP Physics specialist to the level and the slot, and the first lesson is free and taught by the tutor we are proposing. Lessons run one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time. If no specialist is free in your window, we will tell you that rather than offer a substitute.
