IB & IGCSE in Mohammed Bin Rashid City

Three sciences, two sciences, or one: the question behind the quote

An IGCSE science quote in Dubai is meaningless until somebody establishes what your child is actually entered for. There are three common routes through the British-curriculum schools around Mohammed Bin Rashid City. Triple award means three separate subjects, three sets of papers, three grades on the certificate: Cambridge 0610 Biology, 0620 Chemistry and 0625 Physics, or Pearson Edexcel 4BI1, 4CH1 and 4PH1. Co-ordinated Sciences, Cambridge 0654, covers all three disciplines across one set of papers and awards a double award grade. Combined Science, Cambridge 0653, awards a single grade.

That distinction is the biggest single variable in the cost. Supporting triple award means three bodies of content, three practical traditions and three sets of command-term habits. Supporting a double award means one set of papers with less depth in each discipline. A tutor who quotes an hourly rate without asking which route your child is on is quoting for an unknown quantity, and the number will be revised later.

The second variable is tiering. Cambridge entries are Core or Extended. Core papers cap the available grade; Extended papers open the full range and carry materially more content. A student entered for Core needs a different kind of support from one entered for Extended, and the honest advice for some students is to secure the Core grade rather than pay for an Extended rescue. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE does not tier its sciences the same way, which is one reason the two boards cost different amounts to support even at the same hourly rate.

The third variable is the practical component, and it is the one families almost never budget for. Cambridge IGCSE sciences include a practical test or an alternative-to-practical paper worth roughly a fifth of the grade. Pearson Edexcel assesses practical skills inside the written papers instead. A child moving between schools can move between those systems mid-course, and the practical paper is where that shows up as lost marks.

There is a fourth variable, and it is the one that decides how big the bill gets: scope. A triple-award student with one weak science does not need three tutors, and reading the most recent set of marked papers usually says which subject is the problem within twenty minutes. Families who buy the full set are often paying three times over for something that was one third the size. Any provider quoting a three-subject programme before seeing the marked work is quoting a scope rather than diagnosing one, and the scope is the expensive part.

Delivery, stated plainly: IB Gram does not send tutors to homes in Mohammed Bin Rashid City or anywhere else in the UAE. Visiting tutors are an India-only service. IGCSE science support here is one-to-one live video in Gulf Standard Time. For a subject where diagrams, apparatus sketches and graph work carry marks, a shared whiteboard that keeps the work after the lesson is a practical advantage, and removing travel from the price is a direct saving.

TRIPLEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Separate sciences, triple award

Three independent subjects with their own papers and grades: Cambridge 0610 Biology, 0620 Chemistry, 0625 Physics, or Pearson Edexcel 4BI1, 4CH1, 4PH1. The most content-heavy route and the usual prerequisite expectation for students heading towards Higher Level IB sciences or A Level sciences.

The British-curriculum schools around MBR City mostly offer triple award to their stronger sets. For a family budgeting support, the question is whether all three need tutoring or one does. In our experience chemistry and physics are the common requests and biology the rarer one, so a blanket three-subject programme is frequently more than the student needs.

DOUBLEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Co-ordinated Sciences, double award

Cambridge 0654 covers biology, chemistry and physics across one set of papers and awards a double award grade. Content depth in each discipline is lower than triple award, which makes a single tutor across all three realistic rather than a compromise.

This is the efficient route for a student who needs science grades for MoE equivalency and university entry but is not heading into a science degree. Supporting it costs materially less than triple award, because one tutor can hold the whole syllabus and the paper count is smaller. Confirm with the school which code they have entered your child for; it is not always the one parents assume.

COMBINEDAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Combined Science, single award

Cambridge 0653 awards one science grade across all three disciplines. The lightest route and the cheapest to support. It satisfies a science requirement on a certificate but is a weak foundation for A Level or Higher Level IB science.

Relevant for a student whose strengths lie elsewhere and who needs a science grade rather than a science pathway. Where a family is weighing combined science against double award, the decision should be made on the intended post-16 route rather than on tutoring cost, because the fee difference is small and the consequence for subject choice at 16 is not.

IBAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

What comes next: IB MYP and DP sciences

Several MBR City families move from an IGCSE science route into IB DP sciences at the continuum schools in Sobha Hartland or across in Al Jaddaf. DP Biology, Chemistry and Physics place 20% of the grade on a single student-designed investigation, which is a different skill from a Cambridge practical paper.

If the plan is DP Higher Level science, triple award at Extended is the foundation that makes it survivable. A student arriving at DP Chemistry from a combined science grade has a real gap in mole calculations and energetics, and closing it over the summer before DP1 costs far less than closing it during DP1 term one.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Below are the science and science-adjacent IGCSE courses families in this district ask about, with the syllabus code where it is useful and the place marks reliably go missing.

IGCSE Chemistry

Core and Extended · Cambridge 0620, Pearson 4CH1

Mole calculations are the recurring failure, followed by organic nomenclature and ionic equation balancing. Extended adds the quantitative depth that Core avoids, which is where the tiering decision bites hardest.

IGCSE Physics

Core and Extended · Cambridge 0625, Pearson 4PH1

Electricity is the topic that breaks most students, usually because series and parallel circuits were learned as rules rather than as consequences of conservation. Unit prefixes and rearrangement cost marks on every paper.

IGCSE Biology

Core and Extended · Cambridge 0610, Pearson 4BI1

Content volume rather than difficulty is the problem. Marks are lost on command terms, on describing a graph instead of explaining it, and on experimental design questions where control variables are omitted.

Co-ordinated Sciences

Double award · Cambridge 0654

All three disciplines in one paper set. The practical risk is uneven revision, with one discipline neglected until the mock reveals it. A single tutor across the whole syllabus is the sensible shape here.

Combined Science

Single award · Cambridge 0653

One grade across the sciences. Needs breadth coverage rather than depth, and responds well to a short block built on past-paper questions by topic rather than a long teaching programme.

IGCSE Mathematics

Core and Extended · Cambridge 0580, Pearson 4MA1

Underpins the science papers more than families expect. Rearrangement, ratio, standard form and graph interpretation are science marks dressed as maths, and fixing them lifts all three sciences at once.

Alternative to Practical

Cambridge Paper 6

A written paper about experiments, worth roughly a fifth of the grade in Cambridge sciences. It rewards knowing apparatus, reading scales, identifying variables and spotting sources of error, and it is almost never revised specifically.

IGCSE English as a Second Language

Cambridge 0510, 0511

Relevant to science marks because extended-response questions are marked on whether the explanation is clear. Students who know the science and cannot structure a three-mark explanation lose marks in every science paper.

IGCSE Additional Mathematics

Cambridge 0606

Taken by stronger sets in some MBR City schools alongside triple science. Useful preparation for Higher Level IB Maths and A Level, and it reduces the maths-shaped gap in physics considerably.

Arabic as a First or Additional Language

Mandatory in Dubai private schools

Required by KHDA in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed curriculum. Not counted among the five subjects for MoE British-track equivalency, which is a point several providers in this market get wrong.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways families in this district buy IGCSE science support, all delivered as one-to-one live video in Gulf Standard Time. The right shape depends on whether one science is weak or all three are.

Single science, weekly

One subject, one weekly slot. The most common and most efficient purchase, because in most triple-award students one science is dragging the set down and the other two are fine. Fixing the weak one lifts the certificate without tripling the bill.

  • Starts from the last marked paper in that subject only
  • One tutor, one syllabus code, one set of command-term habits
  • Roughly a third of the cost of a three-subject programme
  • Reviewed after the Year 11 mock to see if a second subject is needed

Double award across one tutor

For students entered for Co-ordinated Sciences 0654, a single tutor covering all three disciplines across one paper set. Realistic because the depth in each discipline is lower than triple award, and considerably cheaper than three specialists.

  • One tutor holds the whole 0654 syllabus
  • Rotating topic coverage so no discipline is neglected until the mock
  • Includes the practical or alternative-to-practical paper explicitly
  • One slot a week rather than three

Pre-series intensive before the June or November papers

A concentrated block in the weeks before the exam series, built on timed past papers by topic. Suited to a student whose content is broadly sound and whose paper technique is not. The most expensive shape per month, and occasionally the correct one.

  • Timed papers sat and marked question by question
  • Alternative-to-practical paper revised specifically, not assumed
  • Topic triage from the student's own mock rather than a checklist
  • Can shift to post-Iftar timing where the block overlaps Ramadan

Triple, double or combined: the arithmetic behind the quote

Work out the route before you compare prices. The number of papers, the number of grades and the amount of content differ enough between the three routes that a single hourly rate produces three very different bills.

Triple award at Extended is the heaviest. Three syllabuses, each with its own multiple-choice paper, theory paper and practical component, assessed and graded separately. If a student needs support across all three, that is three weekly sessions or one long weekend block, and no honest provider will tell you otherwise. The saving available here is not a lower rate but a smaller scope: in most triple-award students one science is dragging and the other two are adequate, and a diagnostic reading of the last mock will say which.

Co-ordinated Sciences, Cambridge 0654, is the middle route. All three disciplines, one paper set, a double award grade. Depth in each discipline is lower, which means one tutor can realistically hold the whole syllabus. The weekly cost is roughly a third of a three-subject triple programme for a student who genuinely needs broad coverage.

Combined Science, Cambridge 0653, is the lightest and cheapest to support. One grade, breadth rather than depth, and a course that responds well to a short block of topic-by-topic past-paper work rather than sustained teaching.

One thing to establish in writing before any of this is priced: which route the school has actually entered your child for. Parents are frequently certain their child sits triple award when the entry says Co-ordinated Sciences, or the reverse, and the mistake usually comes to light at the mock. The examinations officer can confirm the codes in a single email. The table sets out what each route involves so you can see where your child sits before anyone quotes you an hour.

Core or Extended, and the decision that changes the bill

Cambridge IGCSE sciences are entered at Core or Extended tier. The distinction is not cosmetic: Core papers cover less content and cap the grade available, Extended papers cover more and open the full range. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE sciences are not tiered the same way, which is one reason two students at the same hourly rate can need very different numbers of hours.

The tiering decision usually arrives in Year 10 or early Year 11, set by the school on the basis of internal assessment. It is reviewable, and that is where tutoring money is sometimes well spent and sometimes wasted. A student sitting just below the Extended threshold, with a clear single weakness, is a good candidate for a short targeted block that moves them up a tier. A student well inside Core, with gaps across every topic, is not — and paying for an Extended rescue there buys a worse outcome than securing a strong Core grade.

The honest version of this advice is unpopular because it sounds like giving up. It is not. A secure Core grade on the certificate serves MoE equivalency and most university entry requirements. An attempted Extended paper that produces an unclassified result serves nothing. Ask the school what the student's internal marks say, ask what the threshold is, and make the decision on evidence rather than ambition.

What a tutor should do with this is simple. In the first session, establish the tier, confirm it against the last marked paper, and say plainly whether a tier change is realistic. If it is not, the hours go into securing the grade available rather than chasing one that is not.

The practical paper nobody budgets for

  • Cambridge practical or alternative paper is worth about a fifth of the science grade
  • Rewards apparatus naming, scale reading, variable identification and error critique
  • Needs no laboratory to teach, and the diagrams stay available for revision
  • Pearson assesses practical skills inside the written papers instead
  • A mid-course school move between boards is a common source of lost marks

In Cambridge IGCSE sciences there is a component worth roughly a fifth of the grade that most students never revise specifically, because it does not feel like content. It is either the practical test or the alternative-to-practical paper, and it is written, not performed.

What it rewards is a narrow and entirely teachable set of skills. Reading a scale correctly, including the half-division. Naming apparatus precisely rather than approximately. Identifying the independent, dependent and control variables in somebody else's experiment. Explaining why a result is anomalous. Suggesting one improvement that would actually reduce the error described rather than a generic improvement. Drawing a table with units in the headings rather than in the cells.

None of that requires a laboratory, which is the point worth making for families considering online support. A student can learn to read a burette diagram, identify a control variable and critique a method on a shared screen as well as in a room, and arguably better, because the diagrams stay on the whiteboard afterwards for revision. Where a school's own laboratory time is limited, this is the component online support most reliably improves.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE handles this differently, assessing practical skills inside the written papers rather than through a separate component. A child who moves school mid-course can move between the two systems, and that transition is where marks quietly disappear. Establish which board and which component your child is entered for before anyone plans a revision programme around it.

What IGCSE science support costs in Dubai, cheapest route first

Begin at the bottom of the market, which is where most families start and where some should stay. Tutopiya advertises online tutoring from AED 33 to 52 an hour and EdFlik from AED 45 to 65. For a Year 10 student needing homework support and a bit of structure on a combined science course, that band can be entirely sufficient, and paying more for it buys nothing.

The next band up is where IGCSE science support usually belongs. Unitors publishes IGCSE tuition from AED 150 an hour against IB from AED 200 — a useful signal, since it is the only competitor in this market with a published hourly rate, and it prices IGCSE below IB for the same reason we would: the content ceiling is lower and the tutor pool wider. Qualified online subject tutors across the market sit roughly AED 150 to 300.

Above that sit the specialist and premium bands, published at AED 200 to 450 or more by Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 table, with TutorChase at AED 270 and BartyED at AED 650. For IGCSE science specifically, those bands are harder to justify than they are at IB Higher Level. There are more IGCSE science teachers than DP science specialists, and an Extended paper is a less rarefied thing to teach than Higher Level organic chemistry.

In-home visits are quoted at AED 180 to 350 by Bestimate and up to AED 500 by independent home tutors. Monthly packages advertised in this market include AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home visits. All of those are the providers' own published figures, not IB Gram prices. We quote after a free trial, because the right number depends on the route, the tier and the weeks remaining.

The exam series counted backwards from the entry deadline

Families plan science revision from the exam date. The deadline that actually constrains them is the entry deadline, which sits months earlier and is set by the school rather than by the board.

In the UAE, Cambridge International runs IGCSE, O Level and International A Level examinations in a June series and a November series. The February and March series exists but is offered to India only, so it is not a route available to a student in Dubai — a point worth stating because it circulates in parent groups as though it were. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE examinations are available in May/June and November each year.

Two Cambridge administrative facts matter to a Dubai family. Every examination centre is allocated to one of six administrative zones, and Cambridge is explicit that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, because it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an examination after using the wrong one. That is a school responsibility, but it is worth confirming with the examinations officer rather than assuming.

For Pearson, the published pattern gives a useful shape: the November 2026 International GCSE final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026, June 2026 results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Pearson publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series, so any session table should be checked against the live official timetable rather than a restated date.

What MoE equivalency actually asks of your child's science grades

This is the part of the picture nearly every tutoring page in this market omits, and one ranking competitor gets wrong outright.

For the British track, the UAE Ministry of Education equivalency requirement is that a student passes five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates with a grade of no less than E or grade 3, plus proof of one accredited subject at Advanced Level with a grade of no less than E, or two accredited subjects at Advanced Subsidiary Level with the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five required subjects.

The figure to be careful about is the subject count. One ranking competitor in this market states that UAE candidates must take six IGCSE subjects. The sourced requirement is five accredited subjects at grade E or 3 or better, excluding Arabic and Islamic education. Publishing the correct number matters more than it sounds: a family planning around six when five is the requirement may pay for a subject and a tutor they did not need.

What this means for a science budget is concrete. A double award in Co-ordinated Sciences contributes two of the five. Triple award contributes three. Combined science contributes one. If the five-subject count is tight, the route your child is entered for is part of the equivalency arithmetic as well as the university one, and that is worth knowing before Year 10 choices are finalised. Verify every requirement on moe.gov.ae or with the emirate's attestation authority; the process is theirs, not ours, and we neither perform nor guarantee any part of it.

Where IGCSE science tuition money is wasted in this district

  • Read the marked papers before buying three subjects
  • Separate technique from content with one timed paper
  • Revise the practical or alternative paper deliberately
  • Confirm the board and syllabus code in writing before the first lesson
  • Ask whether a tier change is realistic rather than assuming it is

Three patterns account for most of it, and all three are visible before you spend.

Buying three sciences when one is the problem. A triple-award student with a weak chemistry grade and solid biology and physics does not need three tutors. Reading the last set of marked papers takes twenty minutes and usually identifies a single subject, sometimes a single topic within it. Families who buy the whole set are frequently paying three times for a problem that was one third that size.

Buying content teaching when the issue is paper technique. A student who can explain the science at the kitchen table and scores poorly on the theory paper has a structure problem, not a knowledge problem. Three-mark explanations need three distinct points, extended responses need the command term obeyed, and graph questions need the axis read before the answer is written. None of that is new content and all of it is faster to fix.

Ignoring the practical component until the mock. It is roughly a fifth of a Cambridge science grade, it is written rather than performed, and it is almost never revised specifically because it does not look like revision. A handful of sessions on apparatus, scales, variables and error critique is the highest-yield spend available in IGCSE science, and it is the one families reach for last.

There is a fourth, less common but more expensive: buying a tutor who does not know which board the child sits. A tutor teaching Cambridge 0620 habits to a Pearson 4CH1 candidate will produce confident answers to questions the student will not be asked. Establish the code on the entry, in writing, before the first session.

08

Online science support versus a visiting tutor, on cost and on pool

The in-home comparison for IGCSE science is less lopsided than it is at IB Higher Level, because there are more IGCSE science teachers living in Dubai than there are DP specialists. It still goes the same way, for two reasons.

The first is the arithmetic. In-home visits are published at AED 180 to 350 by Bestimate and up to AED 500 by independent tutors, and the in-home monthly package advertised in this market works out at roughly AED 210 per session hour against roughly AED 100 for the online equivalent. The difference is travel, which a family pays for whether it is itemised or absorbed into the rate. A forty-minute round trip to District One at 17:00 has a real cost whoever carries it.

The second is the code. A triple-award student on Pearson 4PH1 needs someone who knows that specification, not someone who knows physics. Online, the constraint on matching is the clock. In person, it is the clock plus a drivable radius, and for a specific syllabus code that intersection in one evening slot gets small quickly.

There is a third consideration that is specific to science. Much of the teaching is diagrammatic: circuit diagrams, apparatus sketches, reaction schemes, graphs with gradients marked. A shared whiteboard records all of it and keeps it after the lesson, so a student revising in May can scroll back to the circuit they half-understood in January. A notebook on a kitchen table does not offer that, and for the practical and alternative-to-practical component the retained diagrams are most of the revision material.

To be unambiguous: IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai or anywhere in the UAE. Visiting tutors are an India-only service. The in-home figures on this page describe what the Dubai market charges for something we do not sell, and they are here because the comparison is the argument.

Agreeing the scope before the rate

  • Send the board, the syllabus codes, the tier and the last marked papers
  • Free trial taught by the proposed tutor on a live topic
  • Scope proposed from the evidence, which is often smaller than expected
  • No grade promises, and coverage limits disclosed before you commit

The sequence is short and the first lesson is free. Tell us the school, the year group, the board, the syllabus codes and the tier. Send the most recent marked science papers, with per-question marks visible if possible. We will come back with a view on scope — which sciences actually need support and roughly how many hours — and a proposed tutor.

The trial lesson is taught by that tutor on a real topic, not by a salesperson. A useful thing to ask in it: get the tutor to walk through an alternative-to-practical question. A tutor who knows the component will talk about scale divisions, control variables and error sources within a minute. One who does not will talk about the science in the question instead.

Two things we will decline. We will not sell three sciences where the marked papers show one. And we will not promise a grade or a tier change, because nobody can, and a provider who does is selling you something they cannot deliver. If no tutor is free in your window for your specific syllabus code, we will tell you rather than substitute someone who knows the other board.

Scheduling is worth settling at the same time as scope. Secondary schools serving this district finish between 15:00 and 15:45, and a bus from District One or Business Bay adds twenty to forty minutes, so the first slot that reliably happens is around 16:45. A triple-award student needing two sciences is better served by one ninety-minute weekend session than by two rushed weekday hours, and that choice costs the same. Tell us the two windows that genuinely survive your week and we will build the sequence around them rather than around a timetable that looks neat.

Where we tutor

Communities we quote across

The route your child is entered for matters more to the price than where you live. These are the MBR City districts and neighbouring communities whose schools and timetables we schedule against.

District One

Villa plots with no secondary school inside the boundary. Students travel out to the Sobha Hartland or Nad Al Sheba schools, which narrows weekday session windows and pushes triple-science families towards weekend blocks.

Sobha Hartland

The school-dense district, with British provision running IGCSE then A Level. Most triple-award enquiries in this corridor come from here, and short journeys mean three subjects can be spread across three weekday evenings.

Meydan

Villa and apartment clusters where families often share a tutor across siblings in different year groups. For double award that works well; for triple award it rarely does, because the content loads differ too much.

Nad Al Sheba

Short school runs to both British and IB provision. A common pattern here is one science tutored intensively in Year 11 rather than all three, which is usually the correct call on both grade and cost.

Downtown Dubai

Apartment living with students often staying at school for activities. Later evening slots from 18:00 suit single-subject IGCSE support, which is the most frequent request from this part of the corridor.

Business Bay

Long school-bus routes mean a 17:15 start is more reliable than a 16:30 one. For a Year 11 student sitting three sciences, reliability of the slot matters more than its position in the evening.

Al Jaddaf

Across Ras Al Khor, with IB continuum provision of its own. Families here sometimes have one child on IGCSE and one on MYP, which is a case where a single science tutor genuinely can cover both.

Al Quoz

Earlier finish times at several schools here make 15:45 sessions feasible, which is the only part of this corridor where a triple-science student can fit three weekday sessions without late nights.

Culture Village

Small resident population on the Al Jaddaf waterfront. Local supply for a specific syllabus code is thin, so matching on the code rather than on proximity is doing the work.

Al Quoz 4

Good road access in both directions. Weekend morning slots are popular here, and a ninety-minute Saturday session is the most cost-effective way to cover two sciences in one sitting.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Mohammed Bin Rashid City

Sobha Hartland and the MBR City districts

The British-curriculum provision closest to District One and Sobha Hartland, where IGCSE science entries in this corridor mostly originate. Which board and which syllabus code a school uses varies, and it is the first thing to establish.

  • Hartland International School
  • Kent College Dubai
  • North London Collegiate School Dubai
  • GEMS Modern Academy

The central corridor and the creek side

Schools reached from the Meydan and Nad Al Sheba sides and from Al Jaddaf across Ras Al Khor. A mix of British, Indian and IB curricula, so a single tutor in this catchment may be working across three different science systems in a week.

  • Jumeirah College
  • JSS Private School
  • Credence High School
  • GEMS Our Own Indian School
  • Swiss International Scientific School Dubai

Named schools are listed as context for the local education ecosystem; no affiliation, endorsement or partnership with IB Gram is implied.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Confirm the board and the codes

Ask the school, in writing, which board your child is entered with and which syllabus codes and tier. Cambridge 0620 and Pearson 4CH1 are different papers with different practical arrangements, and a tutor matched to the wrong one teaches confident answers to questions that will not be asked.

  2. 02

    Send the marked papers

The most recent marked science assessments, with per-question marks visible. Twenty minutes of reading usually identifies one subject and often one topic, which is how a three-subject quote turns into a one-subject programme.

  3. 03

Free trial with the proposed tutor

A real lesson on a real topic. Ask them to work through an alternative-to-practical question; a tutor who knows the component talks about scale divisions and control variables straight away, which tells you more than any credential list.

  4. 04

    Agree scope, then the rate

We propose which sciences need support and roughly how many hours, then the rate for that scope. If a short block is the honest answer rather than a term, that is what we will propose and the invoice will be smaller than you expected.

  5. 05

    Review at the mock

The Year 11 mock changes the plan. Triage comes from the student's own marked papers, the practical component gets explicit attention, and the final weeks move to timed papers. If fewer hours are needed, we reduce them.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Matched on the syllabus code

Cambridge 0610, 0620, 0625 and 0654 and Pearson 4BI1, 4CH1 and 4PH1 are different papers with different practical arrangements. We match on the code on the entry rather than on the subject name, because the difference shows up in marks.

Scope before rate

We read the marked papers and say which sciences need support before quoting. In a triple-award set it is usually one, which makes the programme a third the size of the one most families expect to buy.

The practical paper taught, not assumed

The Cambridge practical or alternative paper is worth roughly a fifth of the grade and is almost never revised deliberately. It needs no laboratory to teach, and it is the highest-yield block of sessions available in IGCSE science.

Every AED figure attributed

The rate bands on this page name the provider who published them. Three of the six main competitor pages researched in this market publish no price at all, and none of them cites a source for a figure. You should be able to check a number before acting on it.

Honest about the tier

If the evidence says a Core grade should be secured rather than an Extended one chased, we will say so in the first session. Paying for an Extended rescue that produces an unclassified result is the worst outcome available and it is avoidable.

Limits stated up front

No IB Gram home visits in the UAE, no UAE office, no KHDA, ADEK, MoE, Cambridge or Pearson accreditation claimed, and no grade promised. We also do not perform or guarantee any part of the MoE equivalency process, which belongs to the authority.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Mohammed Bin Rashid City: your questions answered

How much does an IGCSE Science tutor in Mohammed Bin Rashid City cost?+

Published Dubai rates put qualified online subject tutors at roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour, with Unitors publishing IGCSE tuition from AED 150. Budget online options are advertised from AED 33 to 52 by Tutopiya and AED 45 to 65 by EdFlik. Specialist bands of AED 200 to 450 and above, published by Bestimate and TutorChase, are harder to justify at IGCSE than at IB Higher Level. Those are providers' own figures, not IB Gram prices. The honest number depends on whether your child sits triple, double or combined science, so we quote after a free trial lesson.

Does tutoring three separate sciences cost three times as much?+

It can, which is why scope matters more than rate. A triple-award student has three syllabuses, three sets of papers and three grades, so genuine support across all three means three weekly sessions. In most cases, though, one science is dragging the set down and the other two are adequate. Reading the most recent marked papers usually identifies that single subject, and sometimes a single topic within it. Families who buy the whole set often pay three times for a problem that was one third that size. Ask for the scope to be justified from the marked work.

Co-ordinated Sciences or three separate sciences - which costs more to support?+

Co-ordinated Sciences, Cambridge 0654, covers biology, chemistry and physics across one set of papers and awards a double award grade. Separate sciences means three independent subjects, each with their own papers and their own grade: Cambridge 0610, 0620 and 0625, or Pearson 4BI1, 4CH1 and 4PH1. The double award has less depth in each discipline, which means one tutor can realistically hold the whole syllabus and the weekly cost is far lower. Triple award is the expected foundation for A Level or Higher Level IB sciences; double award suits a student who needs science grades rather than a science pathway.

How does the Core or Extended decision change what we pay?+

The school decides on internal evidence, and the decision is reviewable. Core covers less content and caps the grade available; Extended covers more and opens the full range. A student sitting just below the Extended threshold with one clear weakness is a reasonable candidate for a short targeted block. A student well inside Core with gaps across every topic is not, and chasing Extended there risks a worse result than a secure Core grade. Ask the school what the internal marks say and what the threshold is, then decide on the evidence rather than on ambition.

Is there a separate practical paper to budget revision time for?+

It depends on the board. Cambridge IGCSE sciences include either a practical test or an alternative-to-practical paper, worth roughly a fifth of the grade, and the alternative paper is written rather than performed. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE assesses practical skills inside the written papers instead, with no separate practical component. Confirm which your child is entered for with the school, because it changes what revision looks like. The alternative paper rewards naming apparatus, reading scales, identifying variables and critiquing sources of error, all of which can be taught without a laboratory.

Can online lessons prepare my child for the alternative-to-practical paper?+

Yes, and this is the component online support most reliably improves. The paper is written, not performed: it asks a student to read a scale including the half-division, name apparatus precisely, identify independent, dependent and control variables in someone else's method, explain an anomalous result and suggest an improvement that would actually reduce the error described. All of that is taught through diagrams and worked examples, and on a shared whiteboard the diagrams remain available for revision afterwards. Where a school's own laboratory time is limited, this is often the quickest few marks available.

Do your tutors cover both Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel IGCSE sciences?+

Yes, and we match on the syllabus code rather than the subject name. Cambridge 0620 Chemistry and Pearson 4CH1 are different papers with different practical arrangements and different mark schemes, and a tutor who teaches Cambridge habits to a Pearson candidate produces confident answers to questions the student will not face. Ask your school, in writing, which board and which codes your child is entered for. A child who has changed school mid-course is the most common case where the family and the entry no longer agree.

Which IGCSE science do UAE students struggle with most?+

In the cohorts we see across Dubai, chemistry and physics generate most requests and biology the fewest, though biology trips students up on volume rather than difficulty. In chemistry the recurring failure is mole calculations, followed by ionic equations and organic nomenclature. In physics it is electricity, usually because series and parallel circuits were learned as rules rather than as consequences. In biology it is command terms and experimental design questions where control variables are left out. All three lose marks to the same underlying issue: explaining when the question asked them to explain, not describe.

When are IGCSE science exams held in the UAE?+

Cambridge International runs IGCSE examinations in a June series and a November series for UAE candidates. The February and March series exists but is offered to India only, so it is not a route available in Dubai, despite circulating in parent groups as though it were. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE examinations are available in May/June and November each year. Every Cambridge centre is allocated to one of six administrative zones and must use the correct zone timetable, so confirm the version with your school's examinations officer rather than relying on a generic published date.

Do our science entries count towards the MoE equivalency subject total?+

For the Ministry of Education British-track equivalency, the sourced requirement is five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at a grade no less than E or grade 3, with Arabic and Islamic education excluded from that count, plus one A Level at E or two AS Levels at the same grade. One ranking competitor in this market states six IGCSE subjects are required, which does not match the sourced rule. Triple award contributes three of the five, a double award two, and combined science one. Verify your own position on moe.gov.ae or with the emirate's attestation authority.

Is a monthly package better value than paying by the hour for science?+

Do the arithmetic before deciding. An online package advertised in this market at AED 799 a month for eight sessions works out around AED 100 per session hour. An in-home package at AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour visits works out around AED 210 an hour. The second is not more teaching; the gap is largely travel, which the family pays for whether or not it is itemised. Ask what happens to unused sessions, whether the named tutor is guaranteed, and whether the rate holds if you drop from three sciences to one after the mock.

My child is in Year 11 with the series a few months away. Is it worth starting?+

Yes, but the shape should change. The first session ought to be diagnostic rather than instructional: a marked paper read for patterns, not for a score. In most late starts the fastest marks are technical rather than topical — obeying the command term, giving three distinct points in a three-mark explanation, reading the axis before answering a graph question, and the practical or alternative paper, which is roughly a fifth of a Cambridge grade and is usually unrevised. Content gaps then get triaged by paper weighting rather than covered in order.

Is one tutor across all three sciences cheaper than three specialists?+

For Co-ordinated Sciences 0654 or Combined Science 0653, yes, and it is the sensible arrangement: one tutor holding one syllabus across all three disciplines, one weekly slot, one rate. For triple award at Extended it is less realistic, because the depth in each subject is greater and a single tutor strong in all three at that level is uncommon. The usual and cheaper answer for triple award is to identify the one weak science from the marked papers and support that properly rather than spreading one tutor thinly across three.

Is online science tuition cheaper than a tutor who comes to the villa?+

On published figures, yes. In-home visits are quoted at AED 180 to 350 by Bestimate and up to AED 500 by independent tutors, and the in-home monthly package in this market works out at roughly double the online equivalent per hour. The gap is travel, a genuine cost whoever absorbs it, and a round trip to District One at 17:00 is not short. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai or anywhere in the UAE; visiting tutors are an India-only service, so those figures describe the market rather than anything we sell.

How do I know whether the problem is the science or the exam technique?+

Sit one full theory paper to time and have it marked properly. If your child can explain the content at the kitchen table but the paper comes back with marks lost on explanation structure, command terms and unfinished questions, the problem is technique and it is the faster of the two to fix. If the content itself is missing, the paper will show gaps clustered by topic rather than by question type. One timed paper and one honest marking session distinguishes these, and it costs a single session rather than a term.

What if no tutor is free for our board and our evening slot?+

We will say so. Matching on a specific syllabus code in a specific weekday window is a narrower request than it sounds, particularly for Pearson specifications and particularly in the weeks before a series. The realistic options then are a different evening, a weekend morning, or a short wait for a slot. We would rather disclose that than put your child with a tutor who knows the other board, because the mark schemes differ and the student would be practising the wrong habits. No competitor page in this market discloses a coverage limit at all.

Send the marked papers and the syllabus codes

If you are looking for an IGCSE Science tutor in Mohammed Bin Rashid City, the cheapest useful step is also the first one: establish what your child is actually entered for. Send the board, the syllabus codes, the tier and the most recent marked science papers. We will come back with which sciences genuinely need support, roughly how many hours that is, and a proposed tutor matched to the code rather than the subject name. The first lesson is free and taught by that tutor. If the honest answer is one science rather than three, that is the answer you will get.
