IB Business Tutor in Dubai

Start at the bottom of the market. An IB Business tutor in Dubai can be hired from around AED 45 an hour, and for a DP1 student who needs the content explained once, that is sometimes the right purchase. This page works upwards from the cheap end, says what each band genuinely delivers, and shows where the business research project and the quantitative tools in Paper 2 start to need somebody better. Lessons run one-to-one over live video, Gulf Standard Time.

  • Rate bands worked from cheapest upwards, each one attributed
  • Business research project word limit and criteria explained, not written
  • Quantitative tools named: ratios, break-even, investment appraisal

IB & IGCSE in Dubai

Working up from the cheapest Business tutor in Dubai, rather than down from the dearest

Most tutoring pages start with their best tutor and work down, which tells a parent nothing about whether they are overbuying. This one starts at the floor. Tutopiya advertises from AED 33 to 52 an hour and EdFlik from AED 45 to 65; that is the bottom of the published Dubai market, and it usually buys a graduate or university student working through a textbook with the student. For a DP1 Business candidate who simply has not understood the difference between cash flow and profit, that purchase is sometimes correct and the saving is real.

The next band up changes what you get rather than how much of it. Unitors publishes IB rates from AED 200 and TutorChase quotes AED 270 for a qualified subject tutor working online. The difference is marking: somebody in this band can read a Paper 2 answer and say which of the quantitative marks were available and left behind, and can quote the research project criteria without looking them up. BartyED charges AED 650 for a premium named tutor, which prices scarcity in a specific individual rather than a different syllabus.

The in-home market sits across those bands and adds a travel component. Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 table puts home visits at AED 180 to 350 and specialist exam-year subject tutors at AED 200 to 450 or more, while market home tutors are quoted from AED 200 to 500. Advertised monthly packages run AED 799 for eight online sessions against AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home visits. Those two package prices, side by side, are the plainest statement available of what driving across Dubai costs.

Deciding which band a family needs comes down to the component at risk. Content gaps in DP1 sit comfortably in the lower bands. Paper 2 quantitative technique, HL extension topics and the business research project do not, because those need somebody who marks rather than somebody who explains. Business Management is unusual in that the two requirements are genuinely separable, which means a family can buy cheap early and expensive late instead of paying the same rate for two years.

IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE. In-home tutoring is a service we run only in India, and nothing here should be read as an offer to send someone to a Dubai address. Business support for Dubai families runs one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, scheduled around the school day, and that is what lets a family hire the person who marks the component rather than the person who lives nearby.

One more framing point before the tables. Dubai's private school sector served 387,441 students across 227 schools offering 17 different curricula in 2024-25, and Business Management is among the most heavily subscribed Group 3 options in the Diploma Programme schools inside that figure. A popular subject produces good classroom teaching and a crowded market for exam-term specialists, which is why availability rather than price is often the binding constraint in February.

At a glance

  • Published Dubai floor is roughly AED 33 to 65 an hour; it buys explanation, not marking
  • AED 150 to 300 buys a tutor who can mark against the published criteria
  • AED 500 to 650 prices a specific named individual, not a different course
  • In-home rates of AED 180 to 500 carry the tutor's drive inside the hour
  • The business research project runs to a maximum of 1,800 words
  • Delivery is one-to-one over live video; no home visits anywhere in the UAE
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Business Management is a Diploma Programme course, but the request for help arrives from students on several different routes through the IB in Dubai, and each arrives with a different gap.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Business Management sits in Group 3 and runs at Standard or Higher Level over two years. Students work through introduction to business management, human resource management, finance and accounts, marketing and operations management, with additional extension content at Higher Level. Assessment is two examination papers plus an internally assessed business research project on a real organisation, capped at 1,800 words.

Dubai DP Business cohorts are usually larger than Economics cohorts in the same school, because the course is seen as the practical option. That makes local teaching stronger and local tutoring thinner at the top end, since more students chasing the same handful of specialists in the exam term produces the shortage families notice in February.

CPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Career-related Programme

The CP pairs DP courses with a career-related study, and business is the most common career strand, so Business Management is the most frequently paired DP course on this route. CP students sit the same papers and submit the same research project as DP candidates for that subject, with a reflective project and a personal and professional skills course in place of the full DP core.

Business is where the CP makes most sense in Dubai, given the emirate's commercial economy and the number of students heading towards business degrees or family firms. The tutoring need is usually narrower than for a full DP candidate: exam technique for two papers and criteria coaching on the research project, with less pressure from competing subjects.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

There is no MYP Business course, but MYP Individuals and Societies and the MYP design cycle both feed it. Students arrive in DP1 able to research and present, and frequently unable to apply a named analytical tool to a specific firm and reach a defensible conclusion. That application step is the whole of Business Management.

The MYP to DP Business transition is easier than the MYP to DP Economics one, because the content is concrete and the vocabulary familiar from daily life in a commercial city. The hidden difficulty is the opposite of abstraction: students write confidently about businesses they know and forget to apply any framework at all, which caps the mark.

PYPAges 3-12 · FS1-Year 6

Primary Years Programme

No business content and no honest claim to the contrary. PYP units occasionally touch enterprise through transdisciplinary themes, and children in Dubai often encounter small-business ideas through school markets, but none of this is Business Management and none of it should be sold as preparation for it.

For parents planning ahead from the primary years in Dubai, the useful point is that Business Management is chosen in Year 11 and that the mathematics route taken alongside it matters to the quantitative half of Paper 2. Numeracy built early does more for an eventual Business grade than any early subject exposure.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Business requests from Dubai families rarely arrive alone, and the combinations are predictable. These are the courses most often bundled with a Business Management enquiry, with what each one actually contributes.

Business Management

HL and SL

Five content areas plus Higher Level extensions, two examination papers and an 1,800-word research project on a real organisation. Marks are lost through tools named but not applied, conclusions that do not follow from the analysis, and quantitative questions attempted without working shown.

Economics

HL and SL

The Group 3 neighbour, and the source of constant confusion. Economics rewards theoretical modelling with real-world illustration; Business rewards application to a named organisation. Writing one in the register of the other reliably costs a band in both.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

The natural mathematics partner. Financial mathematics, statistics and interpretation of data overlap directly with Business Paper 2 quantitative content, including break-even, ratio analysis and simple investment appraisal.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Chosen by Business students aiming at quantitative finance or economics degrees abroad. The course teaches no business content, but algebraic fluency removes the arithmetic hesitation that costs marks in timed data response work.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Carries the writing discipline Business depends on. A Business extended response is an argument with a recommendation at the end, and students whose paragraphing is loose produce answers an examiner cannot follow to a conclusion.

Psychology

HL and SL

Useful alongside the human resource management content: motivation theory, leadership and organisational culture all sit close to Psychology material, and students taking both can make abstract models concrete with real evidence.

Global Politics

HL and SL

Supports the external environment content. Students who study power, sovereignty and development write better about multinational operations and regulatory constraint than those working from a single textbook chapter.

Digital Society

HL and SL

Overlaps with operations, marketing and the ethics of data use. Students taking both tend to produce stronger research projects, because they ask better questions about how an organisation actually runs its systems.

Theory of Knowledge

Core

Changes Business marks more than students expect. The habit of asking how a claim is justified is what turns a recommendation into a defensible one, and unjustified recommendations are the single most common cap on an extended response.

Arabic B

HL and SL

Commonly carried alongside Business by Dubai students, and relevant to the research project where the chosen organisation operates in Arabic. Primary research conducted in Arabic is legitimate and under-used.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Business support splits cleanly between content work, project supervision and examination technique, and the three are worth buying at different rates and different times. All run over live video, never at a UAE address.

Content catch-up in DP1

Weekly or fortnightly sessions through the first year, working through the five content areas in the order the school teaches them. This is the mode where the lower end of the market is genuinely adequate, because the job is explaining ideas clearly rather than marking to criteria. Families buying here should be paying nearer the bottom of the published bands, not the top.

  • Follows the school's teaching order, not a generic syllabus march
  • Concepts made concrete with organisations the student recognises
  • Appropriate for the lower published rate bands
  • Ends when the content gap closes rather than running all year

Business research project supervision

A defined block around the internally assessed project. The student selects the organisation, gathers the primary and secondary research, and writes every one of the 1,800 words. The tutor teaches the criteria, questions whether the research question can actually be answered with the evidence available, and flags where analysis has become description. No text is supplied.

  • Research question tested for answerability before any writing starts
  • Criteria taught explicitly, with their mark allocations
  • Word limit planned as a structure, not discovered at 2,400 words
  • Feedback is questions and criteria references, never edits to the draft

Paper 2 quantitative and exam technique

Short, intensive work on the numerical content and the extended response structure, built from timed attempts the student has already made. Ratio analysis, break-even, cash flow forecasts and investment appraisal are all learnable to reliability, and they are where the most marks sit unclaimed in this subject.

  • Built from the student's own marked attempts
  • Working shown as a habit, because method marks exist
  • Extended responses practised to a recommendation, not a summary
  • Timed, because unfinished papers are the commonest single loss

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai

01

What the cheapest Business tutor in Dubai actually delivers

The published floor of the Dubai market is around AED 33 to 65 an hour, from Tutopiya and EdFlik. Families often dismiss it on principle, which is a mistake, and families often buy it for the wrong job, which is a more expensive mistake. At that rate the tutor is normally a graduate or senior student who knows the material and has not marked it. What that buys is explanation: a clear account of why contribution per unit matters, worked slowly, with the student asking questions.

For a DP1 student three weeks behind on finance and accounts, that is the correct purchase. The gap is informational, the fix is exposition, and paying AED 270 an hour for exposition is paying a specialist to do a non-specialist job. A family that buys cheaply and well in DP1 has money left for the term that actually needs it.

The band stops working at the point where marking begins. A tutor who has not read against the published criteria cannot tell a student that their research project has described a marketing strategy where the criterion wanted it evaluated, and cannot tell them that a Paper 2 answer lost four method marks by not showing working. Those judgements are what the AED 150 to 300 band is for, and the AED 200 to 450 and above band in the exam year.

So the honest spending shape for Business Management in Dubai is not a flat rate across two years. It is low in DP1, concentrated and higher around the research project, and higher again for a short block of Paper 2 technique before the mock window and the May session. Pages that quote one number for the whole course are not describing how the subject is actually used.

02

The Business Management assessment structure and its weightings

Business Management is assessed through two examination papers and one internally assessed research project, and the balance between them differs by level in a way that changes revision priorities. Families should confirm the exact current weightings against the subject guide with their school's Diploma Programme coordinator, because the course was revised recently and older pages in this market still quote the previous structure.

On the current structure, Standard Level candidates sit Paper 1 and Paper 2 and submit the research project, with the project carrying the larger internal share. Higher Level candidates sit longer versions of both papers, cover extension content in each unit, and submit the same research project with a smaller share of the total grade. The headline consequence is that an HL candidate's examination technique carries more weight than an SL candidate's, while an SL candidate's project carries more.

Paper 1 is based on a pre-released case study, which is unusual and widely under-exploited. Students are given the case ahead of the examination and many of them read it rather than work it: they know the organisation's story and have not mapped it against the tools they will be asked to apply. Working the pre-released case properly, tool by tool, is one of the highest-return activities available in this subject and it can be done months in advance.

Paper 2 is unseen data response with quantitative content and extended response questions. This is where method marks live, and where they are abandoned. A student who shows no working on a break-even calculation and arrives at the wrong number scores nothing, where the same student showing working would have collected most of the marks available.

03

The business research project: 1,800 words and a real organisation

The internally assessed project asks the student to investigate a real organisation against a research question of their own, using primary and secondary research, in no more than 1,800 words. Every part of that sentence causes trouble. The organisation has to be real and reachable. The question has to be answerable with evidence the student can actually get. And 1,800 words is far less room than students assume.

The failure that costs most is choosing a question the evidence cannot answer. A student picks a large multinational because there is plenty written about it, then discovers that nothing published addresses their specific question and no one will answer an email. A smaller Dubai organisation that will give twenty minutes to a student is worth more than a famous name that will not, and this is one place where living in a commercial city is a genuine advantage.

The second failure is length. Students write 2,600 words and then delete adjectives, which removes their analysis rather than their padding. The fix is structural and happens before drafting: allocate the 1,800 words across sections against the criteria, and write to the allocation. A tutor can do that allocation with a student in one session, which prevents a fortnight of painful cutting in December.

The boundary on this component is the one that matters most in this market. A tutor may teach the criteria by name with their mark allocations, interrogate the research question, discuss whether the chosen research methods will produce usable evidence, read the student's own draft and respond with questions and criteria references, and point to a paragraph that has described rather than analysed. A tutor may not write any part of the project, rewrite sentences, or supply text. Producing assessed work is malpractice under IB rules and the consequence falls on the student.

04

Tools students name and never apply

  • Tools defined accurately and never applied to the organisation in the question
  • Portfolio and stakeholder frameworks drawn, then abandoned
  • Cases read for facts rather than for the decision the organisation faces
  • General commercial knowledge offered in place of a framework
  • Recommendations stated without the analysis that justifies them
  • HL extension content treated as background reading

Business Management supplies a toolkit and marks its application, not its recall. The commonest capped answer in this subject lists a tool, defines it accurately, and never uses it on the organisation in the question. An examiner cannot award application marks for a correct definition, however neatly set out.

The pattern repeats across the toolkit. A student writes out the four quadrants of a product portfolio matrix and does not place the case organisation's products in them. They explain what a stakeholder map shows and do not identify which of this organisation's stakeholders conflict. They define market segmentation and never say which segment the case company is actually serving. Each of those is a two-sentence fix once it has been pointed out on the student's own script.

The deeper habit behind it is a reading problem. Students approach a case by extracting facts and then selecting tools; stronger candidates read the case asking what decision the organisation faces, which selects the tool automatically. That reframing takes one session with a pre-released case and changes Paper 1 performance for the rest of the year.

The reverse error exists too, and is more common among confident students in a commercial city. They write knowledgeably about business from general experience, quoting what their family's company does, and apply no framework at all. The mark scheme has nowhere to put that, and the answer reads as opinion. Both errors come from the same misunderstanding of what the subject rewards.

05

Business Management, Economics and IGCSE Business compared

Dubai families choosing between these three, or moving between them, usually do so on an assumption that turns out to be wrong: that they are the same subject at different difficulties. They reward different behaviour, and a student who transfers habits from one to another loses marks for reasons nobody explains.

IGCSE Business rewards accurate recall and straightforward application, with short structured questions and a predictable command vocabulary. Diploma Programme Business Management rewards sustained application to a specific organisation and a justified recommendation at the end. A student arriving in DP1 with a strong IGCSE Business grade often writes DP answers that are correct, complete and capped, because nothing in them weighs an option against an alternative.

Economics is the other direction of confusion. It rewards theoretical modelling, diagram work and evaluation of policy, using real examples as illustration. Business rewards the opposite emphasis: the organisation is the subject and theory is the instrument. Students taking both, which many Dubai DP students do, need the distinction made explicit early, because the two registers sound similar and score very differently.

The practical consequence for route choice in Year 11 is to look at what a student enjoys doing rather than what they know. A student who likes building and critiquing a model usually prefers Economics. A student who likes working out what a particular company should do next usually prefers Business Management. Both are respectable routes to a commerce degree, and neither is the softer option.

06

The quantitative half of Business, and the method marks nobody claims

Business Management carries more arithmetic than its reputation suggests, and the marks attached to it are among the most reliably winnable in the subject. Ratio analysis, break-even and contribution, cash flow forecasting and simple investment appraisal all appear in Paper 2 and all follow fixed procedures. Unlike an extended response, there is no judgement involved: the method is either applied or it is not.

Students lose these marks in two ways, both mechanical. The first is not showing working. Method marks exist precisely so that a candidate who sets out the calculation correctly and then mis-divides still collects most of the credit, and a student who writes only a final figure throws that protection away. The second is calculating and stopping. A liquidity ratio that is computed and never interpreted answers half the question, and the interpretation half usually carries the discretionary marks.

There is a third, subtler loss around units and periods. Cash flow questions mix months and quarters; ratio questions mix figures from a balance sheet and an income statement covering different periods. Students who do not label what they are working with produce internally inconsistent answers that look careless to an examiner even when the understanding is sound.

All of this is fixable by drilling, which is why it is the best value in the subject. A block of four or five sessions on Paper 2 quantitative items, worked under time with working shown and interpretation written each time, reliably moves marks. It is also a component where the student can self-check afterwards, which makes the tutoring hours go further than they do on essay technique.

07

Dubai as a source of real organisations for the research project

One advantage of studying Business Management in Dubai is rarely used: the city is full of organisations at a scale a student can actually research. The emirate's private education sector alone ran 227 schools serving 387,441 students across 17 curricula in 2024-25, and the commercial environment around it, from logistics to retail to food service, includes thousands of firms small enough to answer a student's questions and large enough to have decisions worth analysing.

That matters because the research project lives or dies on evidence access. A student who selects a global technology company will find plenty of secondary material and no primary research, and the criteria reward both. A student who selects a single-branch business in their own community, with an owner willing to spend twenty minutes answering questions about a specific decision, has primary data nobody else has and a question with a real answer.

There are honest constraints to respect. A student conducting primary research should be transparent about who they are and what the work is for, should not promise the organisation anything, and should handle any commercial information carefully. Where a family member's business is used, the analysis has to stay analytical, which is harder than it sounds and is the commonest reason these projects read as promotional.

The tutoring role here is scoping, not sourcing. A tutor can ask whether the chosen organisation will realistically respond, whether the research question can be answered with the evidence available, and whether the chosen methods will generate usable data. Selecting the organisation and conducting the research is the student's own work, and should stay that way.

08

Online Business tuition against the in-home market in Dubai

Families comparing an online platform with a visiting tutor are making a real decision, and the published numbers make it concrete rather than rhetorical. IB Gram does not sell home visits in the UAE at all, so this table reports the market and then states what we do.

Travel is the term that is never itemised. A tutor driving from Jumeirah to Mirdif on a weekday evening gives up an hour each way for a one-hour session, and somebody pays for those two hours. It also narrows the pool to specialists prepared to make that journey at that time, which in the exam term is a short list. The advertised package comparison, AED 799 a month for eight online sessions against AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour visits, is the clearest available measure of the difference.

The case for in-home work deserves stating fairly. Younger students concentrate better with an adult in the room. Equipment problems do not arise. For a student who needs supervision as much as teaching, physical presence does something video does not. For a DP Business candidate working on research project criteria or Paper 2 method, the decisive question is whether the tutor marks that component, and the wider pool answers it better.

The test for any provider, ours included, is specific: ask which Business Management component the tutor worked on most recently, at which level, and how they would respond to a research project draft of 2,400 words. A precise answer tells you more than an address does.

What UAE universities and MoE equivalency need from a Business student

Business Management students in Dubai frequently plan to study in the UAE, which brings the Ministry of Education equivalency process into view. It is worth describing accurately, because one ranking competitor in this market publishes the wrong subject count and families act on it.

For the British track, the Ministry requires proof of one accredited subject at Advanced Level with a grade of no less than E, or two accredited subjects at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade, together with passes in five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at a grade no lower than E or grade 3. Arabic and Islamic education are not included among those five required subjects. For the American track, English proficiency is evidenced by IELTS academic 5, TOEFL iBT 61 or 450 in the SAT reading and writing section, and mathematics by at least 450 in the SAT Math test.

For the International Baccalaureate route there is a point of honesty that most pages skip: we are not publishing an IB points threshold for equivalency, because no such figure has been read on the Ministry's own pages during this research. A number that matters this much should come from moe.gov.ae or the emirate's attestation authority, not from an aggregator. Families should check directly and ask their school's university counsellor.

Two things follow. Equivalency and attestation are processes families complete with the authorities, not services a tutoring platform performs or guarantees, and nobody should imply otherwise. And tutoring is not a requirement for equivalency, admission or progression; suggesting it is would be a false urgency claim about a regulatory process.

Dubai communities Business enquiries come from

Business requests arrive from across the emirate, and what differs by community is the shape of the request rather than its subject: whether the family is buying early content support or late project supervision, and how much evening time is already spoken for.

Business Bay and Downtown Dubai

Apartment living with many parents working in commercial roles minutes away. Business Management is a popular choice here and enquiries are often made by a parent who knows the subject matter and wants criteria coaching rather than content teaching.

Dubai Marina and JLT

Dense towers, high turnover and frequent mid-programme arrivals. Research project enquiries from this cluster often involve a student whose chosen organisation was in another country and who needs to reframe the project around something they can actually research.

Mirdif and Al Warqa

Established family housing further east, where the commute to the DP-heavy western corridor is long. The travel element inside an in-home quote is largest from here, which is why the online comparison matters most to families in this cluster.

Arabian Ranches and Dubai Sports City

Villa communities organised around a handful of schools, with heavy sport commitments. Business blocks are usually booked late in the evening, and the research project tends to be the trigger rather than Paper 1.

Al Barsha and Tecom

A mix of IB and British curriculum schools within a small radius, so siblings often sit different qualifications. Families here frequently ask how IGCSE Business differs from DP Business Management before committing a child to the route.

Dubai Hills Estate and Al Quoz

Newer housing adjacent to commercial and industrial areas, which is useful for a research project needing a local organisation willing to answer questions. Primary research is more feasible here than families realise.

Al Furjan and Discovery Gardens

Rapid residential growth with schooling spread in several directions, so one household can be on three different timetables. Video delivery removes the scheduling knot a single travelling tutor would create across those pick-up times.

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai

Dubai schools with large DP Business cohorts

British-curriculum schools weighing the DP

Schools running IGCSE Business and A Level Business whose students sometimes transfer into the Diploma Programme. The conversation with these families is usually about how an 1,800-word research project differs from an A Level coursework component.

Schools are named only to describe the Dubai IB landscape; no affiliation, partnership or endorsement is implied, and subject availability at each level should be confirmed with the school and with KHDA.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send a marked Business script or a project draft

A returned Paper 2 attempt or a research project draft with the teacher's comments shows where marks are being lost in a way no questionnaire does. Method marks missing from a calculation and description in place of analysis are both visible in minutes.

  2. 02

Say which band the job needs

Content catch-up in DP1 belongs near the bottom of the published market. Research project criteria work and Paper 2 technique do not. Being explicit about which job this is stops a family paying specialist rates for exposition.

  3. 03

Meet the matched tutor at no charge

The trial is a working session on the student's own material. The tutor names the pattern, says what the first sessions would address and how many are realistic, and the family decides afterwards. No obligation either way.

  4. 04

Fix the slot in Gulf Standard Time

Sessions sit around the Dubai school day, mandatory subject lessons, sport and prayer times, and shift for Ramadan or exam weeks with no journey to rearrange. Weekly, fortnightly or a bounded block, depending on the component.

  5. 05

    Review against components, then stop

Progress is checked against measurable things: method marks claimed, recommendations justified, project words allocated against criteria. When the component is done, the block ends. Rolling support with nothing due is the pattern we would rather you did not buy.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Cheapest band explained honestly

Most pages in this market hide the bottom of the market or imply it is worthless. For DP1 content gaps it is often the right purchase, and saying so costs us the easy sale and gives a Dubai family a usable plan for two years.

The 1,800-word limit treated as a structure

The research project is planned as a word allocation against criteria before drafting, rather than cut back from 2,600 words in December. Deleting adjectives removes analysis, which is why over-length drafts lose marks twice.

Quantitative method drilled, not discussed

Ratios, break-even, cash flow and investment appraisal follow fixed procedures and carry method marks. Working shown and interpretation written each time is the cheapest reliable mark gain available in this subject.

A clean line on assessed work

A tutor teaches criteria, interrogates a research question and reads the student's own draft. Nobody supplies text or rewrites a paragraph. Producing coursework is malpractice under IB rules and the consequence falls on the candidate.

Equivalency described, never claimed

The British-track requirements are quoted from a sourced report; the IB points figure is deliberately absent because it has not been read on the Ministry's own pages. No provider should perform, guarantee or imply control over equivalency.

Delivery stated without hedging

One-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram runs no home visits in the UAE; that service exists only in India, so no family should finish this page expecting a tutor at a Dubai address.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

What is the cheapest way to get IB Business help in Dubai?+

The published floor of the market is roughly AED 33 to 65 an hour, with Tutopiya advertising from AED 33 to 52 and EdFlik from AED 45 to 65. At that rate the tutor usually explains rather than marks, which is the right purchase for a DP1 student with a content gap and the wrong one for research project criteria work. Small-group sessions and fortnightly rather than weekly slots also reduce monthly spend. Those are the providers' own published figures, read in October 2026, and not an IB Gram price list.

How long is the IB Business research project and what does it need?+

A maximum of 1,800 words on a real organisation, built around a research question of the student's own and supported by primary and secondary research. The practical constraints are access and length. A question nobody can answer with available evidence will not work regardless of how interesting it is, and 1,800 words is far less room than students assume. Allocating the words across sections against the criteria before drafting prevents the painful December exercise of cutting 800 words out of a finished piece.

Can a tutor help with the Business research project without crossing a line?+

Yes, and the line is clear. A tutor can teach the assessment criteria with their mark allocations, interrogate the research question, discuss whether chosen methods will produce usable evidence, read a draft the student wrote and respond with questions and criteria references, and point at a paragraph that describes where it should analyse. A tutor cannot write any part of the project, rewrite sentences or supply text. Producing assessed work is malpractice under IB rules and the penalty falls on the candidate, not the provider.

Why does my child's Business answer get full marks for knowledge and nothing for application?+

Because the tool was named and never used. Business Management marks application to the organisation in the question, not recall of the framework. A student who sets out the four quadrants of a product portfolio matrix accurately and never places the case company's products inside them has written a correct definition, and an examiner has nowhere to award application credit. The fix is usually two sentences per tool, pointed out on the student's own script, and it is one of the fastest mark gains in the subject.

Does anyone come to our address in Dubai for Business lessons?+

No. IB Gram provides no home visits anywhere in the UAE; in-home tutoring is a service we offer only in India. Business support for Dubai families is delivered one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, scheduled around the school day. The in-home market here is real and quoted at AED 180 to 500 an hour with travel inside that rate, and advertised in-home packages run AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month against AED 799 for eight online sessions. We would rather you had the right specialist than a short drive.

Should my child take Business Management at HL or SL in Dubai?+

Higher Level adds extension content in each content area and longer examination papers, with the research project carrying a smaller share of the total grade. Standard Level has less content and the project counts for more. In practice, a student who writes well under time pressure and wants a commerce degree benefits from HL; a student whose strength is sustained research rather than timed extended responses often does better with the SL balance. Confirm what the school's option blocks actually permit before planning, because that often decides it.

Is Business Management easier than Economics in the IB?+

Neither is easier; they reward different behaviour. Economics marks theoretical modelling, diagram work and evaluation of policy, with real examples as illustration. Business Management marks sustained application to a named organisation ending in a justified recommendation. Students who write one in the register of the other lose marks in both, which is the commonest problem for Dubai students taking both courses. A student who enjoys working out what a specific company should do next usually prefers Business; one who enjoys building and critiquing models usually prefers Economics.

How should my child use the pre-released Business case study?+

By working it, not reading it. Paper 1 is set on a case released in advance, and most students read the organisation's story repeatedly without mapping it against the tools they will be asked to apply. The productive approach is to take each major tool in the course and ask what it says about this organisation, writing the answer out. That can be done months ahead, which makes it one of the few genuinely front-loadable parts of the Diploma Programme and a good use of cheaper tutoring hours.

Which Business calculations appear most often in Paper 2?+

Ratio analysis, break-even and contribution, cash flow forecasting and simple investment appraisal are the recurring families of quantitative question. All follow fixed procedures, which makes them reliably winnable, and all carry method marks that are forfeited when working is not shown. The second recurring loss is calculating and stopping: a liquidity ratio computed and never interpreted answers half the question, and the interpretation usually carries the discretionary marks. A short block of timed practice with working written out moves these marks dependably.

Can my child research a family business in Dubai for the project?+

Yes, and access to a cooperative organisation is a real advantage, but the analysis has to stay analytical. Projects built on a family firm frequently read as promotional, which the criteria do not reward, and the student has to be willing to identify weaknesses in a business their parents run. Be transparent with the organisation about what the work is for, promise nothing, and handle commercial information carefully. A smaller business that answers questions properly is usually worth more than a famous name that answers none.

What does the UAE Ministry of Education require for British curriculum equivalency?+

Reported requirements are passes in five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at a grade no lower than E or grade 3, with Arabic and Islamic education not counted among those five, plus either one accredited Advanced Level subject at no less than E or two Advanced Subsidiary Level subjects at the same grade. For the American track, English proficiency is evidenced by IELTS academic 5, TOEFL iBT 61 or 450 in SAT reading and writing, and mathematics by at least 450 in SAT Math. Verify the current rules on moe.gov.ae before acting.

Will my child's Diploma need a specific points total for a UAE university?+

Not one we are willing to print. No Diploma Programme points threshold for Ministry of Education equivalency has been read on the Ministry's own pages during this research, and a figure this consequential should come from moe.gov.ae or the emirate's attestation authority rather than from an aggregator or a tutoring company. One ranking page in this market already publishes an incorrect subject count for the British track, which shows how these errors propagate. Ask your school's university counsellor and check the official channel directly.

Do Business tutors working privately in Dubai need a permit?+

Yes. The MoHRE private tuition work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, applies to any individual providing private tuition in the UAE. It is granted free of charge for two years, and eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18 and university students. MoHRE's own service page lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time through its smart app, website and e-services system, and warns that tutoring without a permit attracts fines and penalties under the applicable laws.

How many sessions does a Business research project block usually run to?+

Commonly five or six, spread across the life of the project rather than bunched. One at the start to test whether the research question can be answered with evidence the student can reach, one on method and word allocation before drafting, two on drafts with criteria feedback, and one near submission on whether analysis has arrived where description was. Buying continuous weekly support across the whole project period usually costs more and adds little, because the student needs time between sessions to do the research.

What if no Business Management specialist is free in the week we want?+

We say so instead of substituting quietly. Demand for exam-term Business support concentrates sharply around mocks and the May session, and the pool for a specific component in a specific fortnight is narrower than families expect. The options are a start date in the future, a tutor who covers the level but not that exact component for interim work, or a recommendation to wait until demand eases. Families are entitled to know which of those they are being offered, and concealed substitution is the failure mode worth watching for here.

Buy the band the job needs

Send a marked Business script or a project draft, say which component is at risk, and take a free trial session. The tutor will say honestly whether this is a job for the cheaper end of the Dubai market or for criteria-level marking, and how many sessions it realistically takes. A family that buys cheaply and well in DP1 has money left for the term that needs it. Sessions run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time; home visits are not part of our UAE service. Every AED figure on this page is published by the provider named and was read in October 2026.
