IB IGCSE Tutor for Gems World Academy Students in Dubai

Hiring an IB IGCSE tutor for Gems World Academy students in Dubai starts with a number nobody publishes. Three of six competitor pages examined for this project quote no price at all, and two quote US dollars. Dubai market rates read in October 2026 put a qualified subject tutor online at AED 150 to 300 an hour. IB Gram teaches one-to-one over live video.

IB & IGCSE in Dubai

The price, and the four things that actually move it

Dubai has the densest private-school market in the UAE — 387,441 students across 227 private schools in 2024-25, offering 17 different curricula, on KHDA's own published figures. A market that size should produce transparent tutoring prices. It does not. Of the six competitor pages examined for this project in October 2026, three published no price whatsoever, one asks the cost question in its own frequently asked questions and then declines to answer it, and two quote in US dollars, which is not a currency Dubai families pay anything in.

So here are the figures in dirhams, with the source of each. Budget online tutoring with a university-student tutor runs AED 45 to 150 an hour, with EdFlik publishing AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52. A qualified subject tutor working online sits at AED 150 to 300, with Unitors publishing IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. An IB or IGCSE specialist runs AED 200 to 450 and above, with TutorChase publishing AED 270 and Bestimate's 2026 survey reaching 450 or more. An in-home one-to-one visit costs AED 180 to 500, Bestimate putting it at 180 to 350 and independent home tutors at 200 to 500. Premium named tutors run AED 500 to 650 or above, with BartyED publishing AED 650.

Monthly, because that is how a household budgets: published packages include AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home sessions. Bestimate's monthly estimates for a weekly one-hour session are AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle, and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. None of these are IB Gram prices. We publish no price list on these pages, because an honest number depends on subject, level and availability, and a figure invented for a web page is worse than a conversation.

Four things move the number in this emirate specifically, and only one of them is the tutor's experience. The first is format: an in-home visit in Dubai carries a drive across one of the region's heaviest afternoon road networks, and that drive is inside the hourly rate whether the invoice itemises it or not. The second is timing: specialist demand peaks before the May session and the June series, and the slots that fill first are exactly the late-afternoon ones a Dubai school run forces. The third is precision: a tutor matched to the subject rather than the specification delivers teaching rather than marks. The fourth is sequence, which is the largest of all and the one nobody prices.

The rest of this page is built around the number. There is a table of what each band buys, a table setting tutoring against the rest of a Dubai education bill with KHDA's fee freeze as the anchor, the in-home travel premium priced out for Dubai traffic, coursework coaching treated as its own budget line, a note on reading your school's KHDA inspection report before spending anything, a list of what nobody should be charging you for, and the Ministry of Education equivalency rules for both the British and American tracks.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

An IB continuum family funds support at three different stages, and the cost per unit of improvement is not the same in any two of them. Knowing which stage you are in is most of the budgeting problem.

PYPAges 3-12 · FS1 to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

Transdisciplinary and inquiry-led, organised around units rather than subjects, reporting against learner-profile attributes rather than percentages. Parents arriving from a marks-based system often cannot tell whether a child is behind, which is why primary tutoring here is frequently bought on anxiety rather than on evidence.

The cheapest and most useful purchase at this stage is a short diagnostic rather than a standing weekly hour: number fluency, reading stamina and written structure assessed against age expectations. Those three predict Middle Years performance, and fixing them in Year 4 costs a fraction of repairing them in Year 9 at Dubai specialist rates.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Four criteria per subject, each marked out of eight, converted to a 1-7 grade through subject-specific boundaries. There is no external paper before the optional eAssessment, so a student can go years without an externally benchmarked mark while school reports look reassuring.

MYP5 into DP1 is where Dubai families spend most unnecessarily, because the help is bought after the step rather than before it. A student who has never sat a timed external paper meets Paper 1 under clock pressure in DP1. The spring term before DP1 is the cheap window, and it is the term almost nobody funds.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE

Cambridge tiers most subjects into Core, capped at grade C, and Extended, reaching A*. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE is untiered in most subjects and awards 9 to 1. Codes carry real cost consequences: 0580 and 4MA1 are different exams with different mark schemes, and a mismatch buys a term of the wrong preparation.

British-curriculum schools dominate Dubai by enrolment, and most run IGCSE at 16 before splitting into A Level or the IB Diploma. For a household moving between a British and an IB pathway inside Dubai, the IGCSE grades and the pathway decision are both worth a short diagnostic spend rather than a term of weekly hours.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IB Diploma Programme

Six subjects, three at Higher Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS. Grades run 1-7 with up to three bonus points from the TOK and EE matrix. Higher Level carries 240 teaching hours against 150 at Standard Level, and in most sciences the HL extension sits on its own paper.

UAE schools sit the May session. The dates that bind a Dubai Diploma household are the coordinator's internal coursework deadlines, which fall through DP1 and into DP2. That has a direct budget consequence: coursework coaching has to be funded before paper technique, because a missed internal deadline cannot be bought back at any rate.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Subjects a Dubai IB family funds most often, with a note on which carry a coursework cost on top of exam preparation. That second line is the one most budgets miss.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Carries an internal exploration as well as papers, so budget two lines. HL Paper 3 is a two-problem investigation worth 20% of the grade and the most expensive gap to leave open, because it responds to practice rather than explanation and practice takes weeks.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Also carries an exploration. The recurring loss is interpretation rather than calculation: a correct regression with no sentence explaining what it means collects the calculation marks only. Cheap to fix once diagnosed, costly to leave because it recurs on every paper.

Physics

HL and SL

Paper 1 is multiple choice under tight timing; Paper 2 is extended response, where a numerically right answer with no reasoning chain loses the explanation marks. The internal assessment needs real uncertainty treatment, which is coursework coaching rather than subject teaching.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Energetics and equilibrium carry the weight in Paper 2 and organic mechanism notation is the most common hidden gap. The IA rewards a genuinely personal investigation; discovering late that a reproduced textbook experiment sits mid-band is among the costlier surprises in the Diploma.

Biology

HL and SL

Marked as a precision subject rather than a recall one. Command terms decide the mark: outline, explain, describe, suggest and evaluate each want a different answer shape. Genetics and homeostasis are the usual collapse points and both respond quickly enough to be cheap.

Economics

HL and SL

The IA is three 800-word commentaries on news articles the student finds, and a badly chosen article wastes a fortnight of student time plus paid coaching time. HL adds Paper 3, which is arithmetic under time pressure rather than deeper theory.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Paper 1 is unseen textual analysis against a guiding question; Paper 2 is comparative essay on studied works. The Individual Oral links a global issue to one literary and one non-literary extract and is internally assessed, externally moderated. Weak ones fail on the global issue.

Business Management

HL and SL

The case study decides the grade, and application to the named business is the assessed skill. One of the cheapest improvements in the Diploma, because candidates who revise definitions and ignore the stimulus are losing marks for a habit rather than a knowledge gap.

Mathematics (IGCSE)

Cambridge 0580 Core and Extended · Pearson 4MA1

No coursework component, so the entire budget goes on paper technique. Marks are lost on transformations, bounds and the final part of multi-step problems where method marks were available for working that was never written down.

Sciences (IGCSE)

Cambridge 0625, 0620, 0610 · Pearson 4PH1, 4CH1, 4BI1

The practical or alternative-to-practical paper is a separate preparation cost from the theory papers, and Cambridge Paper 6 rewards apparatus precision no textbook summary supplies. The board split halves the available specialist pool, so confirm the code first.

Arabic

First language and additional language

Mandatory in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed curriculum, with KHDA requiring separate classes for Arab and non-Arab students because curriculum expectations and the language of instruction differ. Tutoring means supporting the school's own prescribed material.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways to spend, with the cost logic of each stated plainly. All run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.

Short diagnostic block

Three or four sessions that answer one question with evidence instead of opinion: why the marks do not match the understanding, which Maths route fits, whether a Core or Extended entry is right. The cheapest purchase available and the one that stops a household buying twenty hours of the wrong thing. The output is written.

  • Past papers marked against the official scheme
  • Lost marks sorted by cause rather than by topic
  • A written conclusion you can take to the school

Weekly one-to-one, bought by the term

One or two hours a week following the school's own scheme of work. On published figures a weekly hour with a qualified subject tutor is roughly AED 600 to 1,200 a month, and a specialist exam-year hour AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more. Buy it by the term so it can be stopped or redirected at a review point rather than drifting.

  • Reviewed against marked work every six weeks
  • Session notes recording what was covered and set
  • Term-bounded rather than open-ended

Coursework coaching as its own line

Internal Assessments, the Extended Essay and the TOK essay are different work from exam preparation and belong in a separate budget. A tutor teaches, reviews and gives feedback on the student's own writing. A tutor does not write, complete or produce any of it, and we decline the request when it arrives.

  • Criterion-by-criterion feedback on the student's own draft
  • Research-question triage before weeks are invested badly
  • Priced as a block, because the deadline is fixed

Holiday maintenance

A fortnightly session across a long break with a past paper in between. The cheapest insurance in the Diploma: a student who loses six weeks of momentum over a Dubai summer repays it in DP2 hours at peak specialist rates. Sessions follow a family abroad, since all that is needed is a connection and an agreed hour.

  • Fortnightly rather than weekly, so it holds ground without filling a holiday
  • Works across time zones while a family travels
  • Far cheaper than the DP2 repair it prevents

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai

01

What each AED band actually buys in Dubai

An hourly rate is a bundle, not a quality score, and the bundles differ. Working up from the cheapest band shows what each additional dirham is purchasing, which is the only way to judge whether a Dubai quote is good value or merely expensive.

At AED 45 to 150 an hour you are buying availability. A university-student tutor can keep a capable child moving, explain homework and hold a routine, and in a city with Academic City campuses the budget end of the Dubai pool is genuinely deep. What you are not buying is specification knowledge, and at Diploma level that is usually what separates a 5 from a 6. At AED 150 to 300 you are buying subject training and familiarity with the course. At AED 200 to 450 and above you are buying level-specific and paper-specific experience: somebody who can name the failure modes on HL Paper 2 without looking them up.

At AED 180 to 500 for an in-home visit you are buying presence plus a Dubai drive. Presence is real value for a younger child. The drive is pure cost, and in this emirate it is a larger cost than the distance suggests, because the hours a school run dictates are the hours the roads are worst. At AED 500 to 650 and above you are buying reputation, and any examiner claim should be evidenced rather than accepted: examiner status is unverifiable from a website and is often used to imply access to marking standards, boundaries or paper content that nobody outside the process has.

The practical test is to price the pieces rather than compare the totals. Two quotes of AED 250 and AED 320 are not comparable if the second includes travel: the second is cheaper on teaching and dearer overall. And a quote of AED 200 from somebody who teaches a different board is not a bargain at any price, because what you are buying is the mark scheme.

Tutoring set against the rest of a Dubai education bill

A tutoring quote means little in isolation. Set against the cost of the schooling it supplements, the decision becomes a question of proportion, and proportion is what makes AED 250 an hour either reasonable or absurd.

The anchor is KHDA's own announcement. On 22 May 2026 KHDA confirmed there would be no increase in school fees for private schools in Dubai for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total. For a family already paying international school fees, that confirmation means a tutoring budget set the previous year has not been squeezed from the school side.

Against an international school bill, the published tutoring bands read differently. A weekly hour with a qualified subject tutor at Bestimate's AED 600 to 1,200 a month is a marginal addition rather than a second school fee. A specialist exam-year arrangement at AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more a month is a genuine commitment, and it is usually temporary — concentrated into two or three terms rather than spread across the whole Diploma. The published AED 799 monthly package for eight online sessions is the cheapest structured option in the market as read in October 2026.

Supply is moving too, which matters over a five-year horizon. Dubai's 2026-27 intake adds seven new private schools — four UK curriculum and three International Baccalaureate — creating 16,846 new places, after six new schools opened during 2025-26 and enrolment rose 6%. More IB places means more IB students, which over time means more IB teachers and a deeper tutoring pool. That is a reason to expect the specialist end of this market to get easier rather than harder to buy.

The Dubai travel premium, priced out

Dubai looks like the one emirate where an in-home arrangement should be cheap, because the city is dense and the schools are close together. The arithmetic says otherwise, and it says so for a reason specific to this city rather than to tutoring in general.

A tutor delivering a one-hour in-home session has to travel to it and away from it, and the hours a school run dictates are the hours Dubai's roads are least cooperative. A crossing that takes twenty minutes at 11:00 takes forty-five at 16:30. So a single taught hour consumes two to two and a half hours of the tutor's working day, and a rate that makes that sustainable has to price all of it. That is why the in-home band at AED 180 to 500 sits above the online qualified band at AED 150 to 300 even when it is the same person teaching.

What online delivery removes is not only the cost but the risk. The appointment no longer has to be fixed against an arrival time nobody can predict, so a late school bus costs ten minutes rather than a wasted journey that is usually charged regardless. A 19:00 slot costs exactly what a 16:00 slot costs, because nobody is driving, and that matters in a household where the afternoon is already full. Past papers screen-share and annotate live, and a session can be recorded and rewatched the night before a paper, which no kitchen-table lesson produces.

The case where the premium earns its keep is a younger child who genuinely needs an adult physically present to stay on task. That is a real need and worth paying for. It is not the situation of a DP2 student losing marks on Paper 2 extended response, where the thing worth paying for is somebody who knows Paper 2. IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE; home visits are a service we run only in India.

Coursework is a separate budget line, and most households miss it

  • Fund coursework coaching before exam technique in DP1 and the DP2 autumn
  • Permitted: criterion explanation, feedback on the student's own draft, research-question triage
  • Not permitted: drafting, completing or polishing assessed work to submission standard
  • The test: a list for the student, not a document for the parent

The most common budgeting error in a Dubai Diploma household is treating tutoring as one thing. It is two things with different costs, different timing and different providers of value, and funding only the visible one is how families end up paying twice.

Exam preparation is the visible one: weekly hours, past papers, technique. Coursework is the other: the Extended Essay research question, Internal Assessments in nearly every subject, the TOK exhibition and essay. Coursework deadlines are set by the school's IB coordinator rather than the exam board, and they fall through DP1 and the first half of DP2, which means they bind before any exam does. A household that funds paper practice while an Internal Assessment sits unstarted has spent money in the wrong order, and the deadline cannot be repurchased.

What coursework coaching legitimately contains is worth stating, because this is the part of the market where the boundary is abused. A tutor can explain what each assessment criterion rewards and in what proportion, read a draft the student has written and say where it falls short of the descriptors, triage a research question that cannot be answered inside the word limit, and teach the statistics a Biology investigation or the testing documentation a Computer Science solution requires. All of that is feedback on the student's own work.

What a tutor may not do is write, draft, complete, ghost-produce or edit to submission standard any part of an Internal Assessment, Extended Essay, TOK essay, Personal Project or coursework. IB Gram does not and declines the request. One page examined for this project sells completed Internal Assessments outright at a published price; that is not expensive tutoring, it is a transaction whose downside is the Diploma, and the student carries it rather than the seller. The test is free: a legitimate session ends with your child holding a list of changes, not with a cleaner document in a parent's inbox.

05

Read the inspection report before you spend anything

  • KHDA inspects annually on a six-band scale from Outstanding to Very Weak
  • Reports name attainment and progress by subject and phase, not just a headline band
  • A band is a school-level judgement, not a diagnosis of your child
  • Read the report with your child's marked work; the targeting answers itself

KHDA is responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in Dubai, and it inspects private schools annually on a six-band scale running from Outstanding down to Very Weak. The reports are published. They are also, for a parent about to spend money on tutoring, the single best free targeting document available, and almost nobody reads them that way.

An inspection report does not just award a headline band. It reports attainment and progress by subject and by phase, which means it names the year groups and subjects where a school's own students are doing least well. If your child's school shows weaker progress in secondary mathematics than elsewhere, that is a stronger signal about where to direct tutoring money than any provider's marketing. If attainment is strong across the board, the honest conclusion may be that paid tutoring is not the first thing to buy.

Two cautions about how those reports get used in this market. First, a band is a school-level judgement across hundreds of students and says little about one child's needs; a report is a targeting tool, not a diagnosis. Second, no tutoring provider should be presenting a school's rating as a reason to buy, and none should imply any relationship with the school. Writing "students we support attend" is accurate where true; implying partnership is not, and several competitor pages list twenty or more schools as though they were clients.

Read your own school's report alongside your child's marked work, and the targeting question usually answers itself. That combination costs nothing, takes an evening, and routinely saves a term of misdirected hours. It is also why we ask for marked papers before quoting anything rather than selling a package off a page.

06

Where Dubai households overspend

  • Paying specialist money for a tutor chosen by willingness to drive
  • Twenty hours of revision bought before three hours of diagnosis
  • Starting in the DP2 spring, at peak rates in the worst slots
  • Buying on self-asserted ratings that nobody can evidence

Four patterns account for most of the waste in this city, and all four are visible in advance.

The first is paying the travel premium and receiving availability. The in-home band at AED 180 to 500 overlaps the specialist band at AED 200 to 450, so a household can pay specialist money for a tutor selected because they were willing to make a particular drive at 16:30. Nobody sets out to buy that, and it is rarely discovered before week three.

The second is buying hours before buying a diagnosis. Six sessions of general revision at published mid-band rates is roughly AED 900 to 1,800 and changes little, because nobody established where the marks were going. Three or four sessions marking past papers against the official scheme and sorting every lost mark by cause — content not known, method not shown, command term misread, units and notation, time ran out — tells you what the next twenty hours should contain. The distribution is almost always lopsided and almost no family has seen it.

The third is starting in the DP2 spring, when specialist demand peaks, the late slots are gone and everything outstanding has to be repaired rather than built. The fourth, specific to a city with this many providers, is buying on presentation. A page with a self-asserted star rating, a fabricated satisfaction percentage or a tutor count that nobody can evidence is telling you something about how it will treat your invoice. Of the competitor pages examined for this project, one shows two different review figures on the same page and another shows a five-star rating from twenty reviews alongside a claim of thousands of students.

07

What nobody should be charging you for

Several things are on sale in Dubai's tutoring market that cannot legitimately be supplied. Recognising them protects a budget more effectively than negotiating an hourly rate.

Regulator approval is not for sale. KHDA oversees private education quality in Dubai; ADEK handles licensing and accreditation in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain; SPEA regulates Sharjah; Ras Al Khaimah has its Department of Knowledge; and the federal Ministry of Education supervises Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. None of those bodies approves or accredits a tutor or a tutoring platform. A KHDA Educational Services Permit is a specific licence issued to training institutes with premises in Dubai, requiring initial approval, a maximum of six months to complete the permit and licence steps, and annual renewal requested at least 30 days before expiry. IB Gram holds no such permit, no accreditation from any UAE authority and no partnership with the IB, Cambridge or Pearson.

The MoHRE private tuition work permit is not for sale either. Introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, it is granted free of charge for two years, and MoHRE's own service page lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed individuals, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Individuals tutoring without one face fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no fine schedule is published, so any specific amount quoted should be treated as unverified. A tutor cannot reasonably attribute a higher rate to licensing costs.

Nor should anybody be charging for a promise about a grade, for completed coursework, for board syllabus documents and mark schemes as downloads, or for handling Ministry of Education equivalency. The first is not deliverable, the second risks the qualification, the third belongs to the boards, and the fourth is a Ministry process that we describe and point you to rather than perform. One more worth adding in a city this competitive: a school's own teacher tutoring your child privately may be barred from doing so, and nobody should be marketing that arrangement.

Equivalency on both tracks, and why it costs nothing to understand

A Dubai student applying to a UAE institution meets the Ministry of Education's equivalency process, which converts a foreign school certificate into something UAE universities and employers can read. It costs nothing to understand, and understanding it early prevents expensive subject-choice mistakes. It is also a Ministry process rather than a service a tutoring provider performs, so nobody should be charging you to handle it.

On the British track the published rules are specific: five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at a grade no less than E or grade 3, plus either one accredited subject at Advanced Level at no less than E or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five. At least one ranking competitor page publishes a six-subject requirement, which is wrong, and a household funding a sixth subject's tuition on that basis is spending for no reason.

On the American track, English proficiency requires 5 in the IELTS academic test, 61 in the TOEFL iBT, or 450 in the SAT reading and writing section, and mathematics requires at least 450 in the SAT Math test before applying. For the IB Diploma specifically, this page publishes no points threshold, because we have not read one on the Ministry's own site. An invented figure would be one a family plans two years of spending around, so ask the Ministry, the emirate attestation authority, or your school's university counsellor.

One caution with a direct cost implication: tutoring is not a requirement for equivalency, for university admission or for school progression. Any provider implying otherwise is manufacturing urgency around a regulatory process in order to sell hours, and in a market with 227 schools' worth of demand, that tactic is common enough to be worth naming.

Where we tutor

Where a Dubai address changes the number and where it does not

An online rate is identical from every address in the emirate. An in-home rate is not, because the drive is inside it. These notes price the difference by area rather than describing the scenery.

Al Barsha and Dubai Hills

Central, well connected and dense with schools, so the in-home travel premium is at its lowest here and the local tutor pool at its largest. Even so, an afternoon drive across Al Khail Road at 16:00 is not the drive the map promises.

Jumeirah and Umm Suqeim

Established, villa-heavy and close to several large schools. In-home supply is good and so is the premium, because tutors can fit two visits into an afternoon here in a way they cannot further out along the Expo corridor.

Dubai Marina and JLT

Apartment density means a tutor can serve several households in one tower block, which should in principle lower the premium. Parking and building access often cancel that out, and a 16:30 arrival is frequently a 16:50 one.

Arabian Ranches and the Emirates Road corridor

Villa communities with a longer run from the central school cluster. In-home quotes here sit higher for identical teaching, and a cancelled session wastes a substantial journey that is usually charged either way.

Mirdif and Dubai Festival City

East of the creek, with its own school cluster and a different traffic profile. Families here often find the tutor pool thinner than the central areas and the quotes correspondingly higher at the in-home end.

Dubai Silicon Oasis and Academic City

Further out, with university campuses nearby that broaden the budget end of the tutor pool. Specialist Diploma supply is thinner than in Al Barsha, which pushes an in-home specialist quote towards the top of the published band.

Jumeirah Village and the Expo corridor

Rapidly growing residential areas with newer schools. The commute is the variable: a tutor crossing from Jumeirah to JVC in the late afternoon spends more of their day travelling than teaching, and prices accordingly.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai

The central Dubai school cluster

Dubai's private sector recorded 227 schools and 387,441 students in 2024-25, and the 2026-27 intake adds seven more — four UK curriculum and three International Baccalaureate — creating 16,846 new places. Enrolment rose 6% during 2025-26. That density is why Dubai has a real tutoring market and why comparison shopping is worth the effort here.

The wider emirate

KHDA inspects Dubai private schools annually on a six-band scale running from Outstanding to Very Weak, and publishes the reports. Before spending anything on tutoring, read your own school's most recent report: it names the subjects and year groups where attainment and progress are weakest, which is better targeting information than any tutoring provider can offer.

Schools are named here as context for the Dubai education ecosystem. IB Gram has no affiliation, partnership or endorsement relationship with any school named, and every programme, pathway and inspection rating should be checked against the school's own published information and KHDA's own listing.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the subject, the level and the monthly shape

Whether you are thinking in hours a week or dirhams a month changes the honest answer. A monthly figure lets us say what it will and will not cover at published market rates, rather than quoting an hourly number that sounds reasonable and then needing twice the hours to do anything.

  2. 02

Read your school's KHDA report first

It is free, published, and it names the subjects and phases where attainment and progress are weakest. Read it alongside your child's marked work and the targeting question usually answers itself, often more precisely than a tutoring consultation would.

  3. 03

Buy the diagnosis before the hours

Send four marked past papers if you have them. Three or four sessions sorting lost marks by cause costs far less than twenty hours of general revision and determines what those hours should contain. The distribution is almost always lopsided and almost no household has seen it.

  4. 04

Take the free trial with no condition attached

One session, no minimum booking, no card required, at the hour you would genuinely use rather than a convenient weekend one. Watch whether the tutor diagnoses or lectures in the first twenty minutes, because that is exactly what the later hours are paying for.

  5. 05

Review the spend against marks every six weeks

Compare what has been paid against what has moved: school assessment marks, past-paper scores by question type, coursework feedback. If nothing has shifted on what you targeted, change the plan or the tutor and say so early. A rematch in week two costs an hour; one in week ten costs a term.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The price question answered rather than deflected

Three of six competitor pages examined publish no price at all, one asks the cost question in its own FAQ and declines to answer, and two quote US dollars. This page leads with sourced AED bands, names who published each, and states plainly that they are market figures rather than ours.

The Dubai travel premium made visible

An in-home tutor crossing the city at 16:30 spends two to two and a half hours of their day to deliver one, and the hourly rate prices all of it. We remove the line rather than discounting it, because nobody is driving anywhere.

Coursework costed as its own budget line

Internal Assessments, the Extended Essay and TOK are different work from exam preparation, and their deadlines bind first. A household that funds paper practice while an IA sits unstarted has spent in the wrong order, and no rate recovers a missed internal deadline.

The free targeting document named

KHDA publishes annual inspection reports naming attainment and progress by subject and phase. That is better targeting information than any provider's marketing, it costs nothing, and we would rather you read it before spending than after.

No approval claims and no invented statistics

IB Gram holds no approval from KHDA, ADEK or SPEA, no Ministry accreditation and no partnership with the IB, Cambridge or Pearson. You will find no satisfaction percentage, star rating or student count here, because we cannot produce the data behind one.

Advice against our own short-term interest

The cheapest Diploma support starts in DP1, and the cheapest IGCSE support starts in Year 10 with a decision rather than a term of hours. Saying that to a household calling in the DP2 autumn means selling fewer hours, and it is still the honest answer.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

What does an IB tutor cost for a Dubai school student?+

Published Dubai market rates read in October 2026 put a qualified subject tutor online at AED 150 to 300 an hour, an IB or IGCSE specialist at AED 200 to 450 or more, budget online tutoring from around AED 45, and in-home visits at AED 180 to 500 with travel inside the figure. Monthly, Bestimate estimates AED 600 to 1,200 for a weekly hour with a qualified tutor. Those are market figures from providers' own pages and surveys, not an IB Gram price list.

Why will nobody in this market tell me the price?+

Because a quoted figure invites comparison and most providers would rather have the conversation first. Of the six competitor pages examined for this project in October 2026, three published no price at all, one asks what tutoring costs in its own frequently asked questions and then declines to answer, and two quote US dollars to families who transact in dirhams. Publishing the sourced market bands, as this page does, is the simplest form of honesty available here.

What makes one Dubai tutoring quote higher than another?+

Four things, and only one is experience. Format: an in-home visit carries a Dubai afternoon drive inside the rate. Timing: specialist demand peaks before the May session and the late-afternoon slots fill first. Precision: a tutor matched to the subject rather than the specification delivers teaching instead of marks. And sequence: help bought in DP2 costs more per point than the same help bought in DP1, because the cheap options have expired.

Is an in-home tutor worth the premium in Dubai?+

For a younger child who needs an adult physically present to stay on task, often yes. For an exam-year Diploma student, rarely. The premium prices the drive: a one-hour visit consumes two to two and a half hours of the tutor's day at the time of afternoon the roads are worst. IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE; home visits are a service we run only in India, so the travel line does not appear on our bills at all.

Did Dubai school fees go up for 2026-27?+

No. KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there would be no increase in school fees for private schools in the emirate for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total. That is useful context for a tutoring budget: the school side of the bill has not moved, so a figure set the previous year has not been squeezed from that direction.

How should we split a budget between exams and coursework?+

Fund coursework first in DP1 and the DP2 autumn, then exam technique. The coordinator's internal deadlines for Internal Assessments, the Extended Essay and TOK fall before any exam, and a missed internal deadline cannot be bought back at any hourly rate. Paper practice funded ahead of an unstarted IA is money spent in the wrong order, and it is the most common budgeting error we see in Dubai IB households.

Can the KHDA inspection report help us decide what to buy?+

Yes, and it is free. KHDA inspects Dubai private schools annually on a six-band scale from Outstanding to Very Weak and publishes the reports, which give attainment and progress by subject and phase rather than only a headline band. That names the subjects and year groups where your school's own students do least well, which is better targeting information than any provider's marketing. Read it alongside your child's marked work.

Is a group class a sensible way to cut the bill?+

For content coverage, yes: a topic can be taught to four students about as efficiently as to one, and the per-student cost drops. What a group cannot do is work through one student's marked paper and the specific reasons that student loses marks, which is where most recoverable marks sit in an exam year. Ask what the actual group size is, because two and six are sold under the same word and behave very differently.

Does the rate rise before the May session?+

In this market it often does, because specialist demand peaks and the late-afternoon slots a Dubai school run forces are the first to fill. That is one reason the DP1 year is the cheap window. Ask any provider directly whether their rate moves with the calendar, because a September figure that rises in February is a materially different proposition and the difference is rarely volunteered until it applies.

Which fees tend to appear after the quote in Dubai?+

Sometimes, and they are rarely offered up. Ask whether the figure is per hour or per session and how long a session runs, whether it includes VAT, what a cancellation inside 24 hours costs on either side, whether the rate rises before an exam session, and whether matching, session notes or progress reports carry a fee. Our own position: no charge for the match, no minimum booking on the trial, session notes every time.

How much does a tutor's UAE permit cost?+

Nothing. The MoHRE private tuition work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and MoHRE's own service page lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time. So no tutor can reasonably attribute a higher rate to licensing. Individuals tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule has been published, so treat any quoted amount as unverified.

Should we consider our child's own class teacher for private lessons?+

Check the rules before anything else, because it may be barred. ADEK's professional-ethics rules for Abu Dhabi private and charter school staff prohibit paid private tutoring of students enrolled at the teacher's own school, and the MoHRE private tuition work permit carries a code of conduct that bars serving students affiliated with the teacher's own school. An independent specialist with no conflict avoids the question entirely, and no provider should be marketing that arrangement to you.

Can anybody sell us regulator approval or an accredited tutor?+

No, and the offer should end the conversation. KHDA oversees private education quality in Dubai, ADEK handles licensing and accreditation in Abu Dhabi, SPEA regulates Sharjah, the RAK Department of Knowledge regulates Ras Al Khaimah, and the federal Ministry of Education covers Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. None approves tutors. A KHDA Educational Services Permit is a specific licence for training institutes with premises, which IB Gram does not hold.

Is Dubai's tutoring market getting cheaper or dearer?+

Supply is growing, which should help at the specialist end over time. Dubai's 2026-27 intake adds seven new private schools — four UK curriculum and three International Baccalaureate — creating 16,846 new places, after six opened during 2025-26 and enrolment rose 6%. More IB places eventually means more IB teachers and a deeper tutoring pool. In the short term, demand before the May session still sets the price in the specialist bands.

If we can fund only one subject, which should it be?+

The Higher Level subject with the heaviest unstarted internal assessment and the weakest current marks, in that order. HL and SL points are worth the same towards the Diploma total, so a point gained at HL costs no less and is usually harder to get unaided. Where coursework is both heavily weighted and not begun, that is the subject to fund, because a deadline missed cannot be recovered at any rate you pay later.

This page leads with the price because the rest of this market will not. The sourced bands are above with the party that published each one, so you can test any quote you are given, from us or from anyone else. Before spending anything, read your school's published KHDA inspection report alongside your child's marked work. Then send us the subject, the level, four marked past papers if you have them, and whether you are thinking in hours a week or dirhams a month. The trial lesson is free and carries no minimum booking.
