IB Computer Science Tutor in Dubai

An IB Computer Science tutor in Dubai is harder to verify than a maths tutor, because almost anyone who can program sounds qualified. This page gives Dubai parents five checks to run before paying anything, explains why rates in a thin-cohort subject sit where they do in AED, and sets out what the computational solution documentation actually has to contain. Lessons are one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, with screen sharing both ways.

Five things a Dubai parent can check before paying for Computer Science tuition

Computer Science is the easiest IB subject to be mis-sold. A software engineer with fifteen years of professional experience can be an excellent programmer and a poor Diploma Programme tutor, because the course is not a programming course. It assesses system fundamentals, computer organisation, networks and computational thinking in written papers, and it assesses a computational solution through documentation rather than through working software. A parent who checks only whether somebody can code has checked the wrong thing.

So this page starts with verification rather than with price. Ask which programming language the student's school teaches and whether the tutor has taught the course in that language. Ask what the documentation for the computational solution has to contain, by section. Ask which option topic the school chose and what the examinable content in it is. Ask how the Higher Level case study paper works. Ask whether the tutor holds a MoHRE private tuition work permit. Five questions, each with a checkable answer, and all five together take ten minutes.

Price follows from scarcity in this subject rather than from prestige. The International Baccalaureate accounted for around 7% of Dubai private-school enrolment in 2024-25, Computer Science is a minority option inside the Diploma Programme, and Higher Level cohorts in Dubai schools are frequently in single figures. That produces a market where the published bands still apply but availability, not price, is the binding constraint in the exam term.

The published bands themselves are straightforward. Tutopiya advertises from AED 33 to 52 an hour and EdFlik from AED 45 to 65 at the floor. Unitors lists IB rates from AED 200, TutorChase quotes AED 270, and Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 table puts specialist exam-year subject tutors at AED 200 to 450 and above, with in-home visits at AED 180 to 350 and market home tutors at AED 200 to 500. Each of those is the provider's own published figure, read in October 2026, and none of them is an IB Gram price.

Delivery is stated once. Computer Science support for Dubai families runs one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, with screen sharing in both directions so the tutor can watch the student debug and the student can watch the tutor trace an algorithm. IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE; in-home tutoring is a service we provide only in India. For a subject whose work happens on a screen, that is not a concession but the better room.

One last framing point about this particular market. The competitor pages ranking for Computer Science tuition in Dubai run to roughly 1,400 to 2,300 words, five of six carry no table at all, and three publish no price in any currency. None of them tells a parent how to test the person they are about to pay. That is a strange gap in a subject where the gap between sounding qualified and being qualified is wider than anywhere else in the Diploma Programme, and closing it is what the first section of this page does.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Computer Science formally exists only in the Diploma Programme, but the computational thinking it assesses is built earlier, and Dubai families often ask about it before the DP choice is made.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Computer Science sits in Group 4, the sciences, at Standard or Higher Level. Core content covers system fundamentals, computer organisation, networks and computational thinking, with Higher Level adding abstract data structures, resource management and control. All candidates study one option topic chosen by the school, and all submit a computational solution developed for an identified client. Higher Level candidates additionally sit a paper on an annually released case study.

Dubai Computer Science cohorts are small, and Higher Level groups in a single school are often fewer than ten students. That has two consequences. Teaching is frequently excellent because the teacher is a specialist who chose the subject, and there is almost no peer benchmarking, so a student has no idea whether their solution documentation is strong or weak until it is moderated.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

MYP Design is where the habits that carry the computational solution are formed: identifying a client, specifying success criteria, developing a design, testing against the criteria and evaluating honestly. There is no MYP Computer Science, but a student who has taken the MYP design cycle seriously arrives in DP1 understanding why documentation matters, which is more than half the battle.

Dubai IB continuum schools run MYP Design into DP Computer Science in the same building, and the handover is one of the better ones in the programme. What does not transfer is scale: an MYP design project forgives a vague client, and a DP computational solution does not, because the client is the source of the success criteria everything else is tested against.

CPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Career-related Programme

Where the career-related study is technology, Computer Science is a natural DP pairing on the CP route, and students sit the same papers and submit the same computational solution as DP candidates. The lighter overall load often means more time for the solution, which is an advantage in a component where development time is the real constraint.

CP technology pathways are growing in the UAE alongside the wider economy, and a CP student taking Computer Science in Dubai is frequently the only one in their cohort. For a subject assessed partly through documentation standards, that isolation matters: there is nobody to compare a draft against, which is exactly the gap an external reader fills.

PYPAges 3-12 · FS1-Year 6

Primary Years Programme

No Computer Science content. PYP units build inquiry habits and some schools introduce block-based programming, but presenting any of that as preparation for the Diploma Programme course would be dishonest. The genuinely useful early foundation is mathematics fluency and clear written explanation, both of which the DP course leans on heavily.

For Dubai parents planning a long IB route, the practical note is that Computer Science is chosen in Year 11 and that the mathematics course taken alongside it matters. Students arriving at Higher Level Computer Science with weak algebraic fluency find the abstract data structures content considerably harder than their programming ability predicts.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Computer Science is almost always requested alongside something else, usually mathematics or physics, and the combinations are worth understanding because the overlap is real.

Computer Science

HL and SL

Core system fundamentals, computer organisation, networks and computational thinking, plus one option topic and a computational solution. Higher Level adds abstract data structures, resource management, control and a case study paper. Marks go missing on written papers, not in code.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

The standard partner for students aiming at computer science degrees. Algebraic fluency and proof habits transfer directly to complexity reasoning and to the abstract data structures content at Higher Level, which is where weaker mathematicians stall.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Works for students heading towards data or information systems rather than theoretical computer science. Statistics and modelling content supports the data-handling parts of a computational solution, though some overseas computer science degrees prefer Analysis and Approaches.

Physics

HL and SL

Shares Group 4 and a quantitative mindset. Circuit and logic content sits close to the computer organisation topic, and students taking both find the hardware half of the core less abstract than those meeting it for the first time.

Design Technology

HL and SL

The nearest relative outside Group 4 thinking. Both courses assess a client-driven design process with testing against stated criteria, so a student taking both practises the same documentation discipline twice and usually writes a stronger solution.

Digital Society

HL and SL

Covers the social and ethical dimension the Computer Science course touches more briefly. Students taking both write better evaluations, because they can discuss consequences of a system design rather than only its performance.

Business Management

HL and SL

Frequently paired by Dubai students planning technology entrepreneurship. The overlap that matters is client identification: both subjects penalise a vague stakeholder and reward a specific one with stated needs.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Underrated for this subject. The computational solution is assessed through written documentation, and students whose technical writing is loose lose marks their code does not deserve to lose. Clear English is worth real marks here.

Theory of Knowledge

Core

Supplies the vocabulary for evaluating a system honestly rather than defending it. Students who engage with TOK tend to write evaluations that acknowledge limitations, which is exactly what the solution criteria reward.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Common in Group 4 pairings for students keeping medicine and engineering open alongside computing. No content overlap with Computer Science, but both courses demand precise recording of method, which transfers to documentation quality.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Computer Science support divides by what is at risk: written paper content, the computational solution, or the Higher Level case study. All three run over live video with two-way screen sharing, and none involves a visit to a UAE address.

Written paper content and technique

Weekly or fortnightly sessions on the core and option content that the written papers examine: system fundamentals, computer organisation, networks, computational thinking and the Higher Level extensions. This is the half of the course students neglect, because it feels less interesting than programming and carries more marks than programming does.

  • Core content taught in the school's teaching order
  • Written answers practised to the command term, not the code
  • Option topic content covered specifically, not generically
  • Higher Level abstract data structures given dedicated time

Computational solution documentation coaching

A defined block around the internally assessed solution. The student identifies the client, agrees the success criteria, writes the code and writes every word of the documentation. The tutor explains what each documented section has to demonstrate, questions whether the success criteria are testable, and points out where a design decision has been made without being recorded. No code and no text are supplied.

  • Client identified and success criteria made testable before development starts
  • Documentation sections explained against what each must show
  • Testing planned against the criteria rather than invented afterwards
  • Feedback is questions and criteria references, never written code

Higher Level case study preparation

Work on the annually released case study that the Higher Level paper is built on. The productive approach is early and systematic: build a glossary of the technologies named, research each one to a usable depth, and practise extended answers that apply core content to the scenario. Most of this can be done months before the examination.

  • Glossary of named technologies built and researched properly
  • Extended answers practised applying core content to the scenario
  • Started early, because the case study is released well ahead
  • Written technique drilled, since this paper rewards structured prose

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai

01

The five checks, and what a good answer sounds like

Verification in this subject is unusually easy once a parent knows what to ask, because every question has a factual answer that a genuine Diploma Programme tutor gives instantly and a generic programmer cannot. The table below sets out the five, what a confident answer looks like, and what an evasive one looks like.

The language question is first for a reason. Dubai schools teach the course in different programming languages, and a tutor who has taught it in one and not the other will spend the student's paid hours learning the syntax. That is not a crime, but it should be disclosed and it should affect the rate. Ask the school which language is used before you ask any tutor anything.

The documentation question separates professionals from practitioners faster than any other. A software engineer describes how they would build the solution. A Diploma Programme tutor describes what the documentation has to demonstrate, section by section, and explains that a working program with thin documentation scores worse than a modest program documented properly. That distinction is the whole component.

The permit question is the one parents skip and should not. Any individual providing private tuition in the UAE needs a MoHRE private tuition work permit under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. It is granted free of charge for two years and MoHRE's own service page lists a two-working-day completion time. A tutor who holds one will say so immediately; a tutor who has never heard of it is telling you something.

What a scarce subject does to AED rates in Dubai

Computer Science prices differently from mathematics in this emirate, and not for the reason families assume. The published bands are the same, because providers price by level and format rather than by subject. What differs is availability: with the International Baccalaureate at around 7% of Dubai private-school enrolment and Computer Science a minority option within that, the number of people in or near Dubai who have taught Higher Level Computer Science is small.

The practical effect is that the binding constraint in the exam term is a calendar, not a price list. A family that waits until February to look for a Higher Level specialist for the case study paper may find that the right person has no slots, at any rate. Booking earlier costs the same per hour and secures something that money cannot reliably buy later, which is an unusual situation in a tutoring market.

The second effect concerns in-home tutoring specifically. Market in-home rates in Dubai run AED 180 to 500 an hour with travel inside the rate, and for a common subject that premium buys convenience. For Computer Science it often buys a compromise, because the set of people who have taught this course and are willing to drive to a particular community on a particular evening may be empty. The honest answer in that situation is to widen the pool, not to accept a generalist.

None of the figures below is our price. IB Gram's model starts with a free trial lesson and a consultation, and a specific number for a specific student comes from that conversation. What the table does is let a Dubai family judge any quote they receive against what the market has actually published.

03

Where the marks actually are: written papers, not working code

  • Most of the grade is written prose about systems, not code
  • Command terms handled loosely cost marks that knowledge has already earned
  • Pseudocode written in a real language's syntax loses convention marks
  • Trace tables are pure technique and appear regularly
  • Binary and hexadecimal conversion marks are free and routinely rushed
  • Higher Level abstract data structures need written explanation, not just implementation

The most expensive misunderstanding in this subject is that Computer Science is assessed through programming. It is not. The majority of the grade comes from written examination papers testing core content, and the internally assessed component is judged on documentation. A student who writes elegant software and cannot explain a two-dimensional array in prose will be disappointed in August.

The core content is broad and specific: system fundamentals including the planning and installation of systems, computer organisation including architecture and binary representation, networks, and computational thinking covering problem specification, algorithm design and the construction of flowcharts and pseudocode. Higher Level adds abstract data structures, resource management and control systems. All of it is examined in written prose, often against command terms that students handle loosely.

The characteristic loss is the answer that demonstrates understanding without answering the question asked. A question that says outline wants a brief account of the relevant points; one that says explain wants reasons; one that says evaluate wants a weighed judgement. Students with strong technical knowledge frequently write everything they know, which earns the marks for one command term and none for the others.

The second characteristic loss is pseudocode. Students who code fluently in a real language write pseudocode in that language's syntax and lose marks for conventions. It is a small, mechanical fix, and it is worth finding before the examination rather than in it. Tracing a given algorithm by hand, with a trace table, is the other skill worth drilling: it appears regularly and it is pure technique.

04

The computational solution: a client, testable criteria and honest testing

The internally assessed solution asks a student to develop a product for an identified client, with success criteria agreed with that client, and to document the planning, design, development, functionality and evaluation. Every weak solution fails in the same place: the client is fictional, so the criteria are whatever the student felt like building, so the evaluation has nothing real to be measured against.

A good client is a person who will answer questions and who wants something. A school librarian, a sports coach who records results on paper, a small business that tracks bookings in a notebook. Dubai is full of such clients, which is an advantage, and the student has to approach one honestly and early. The criteria then come from the client's actual need, which makes the evaluation section write itself.

The documentation is where the marks live, and it rewards decisions that were recorded as they were made. A student who develops for six weeks and documents afterwards is reconstructing a story, and it reads like one. A student who records each design decision, with the alternative they rejected and why, produces development documentation an examiner can follow. That habit costs ten minutes a session and is the single highest-return discipline in the component.

The boundary is firm. A tutor may explain what each documented section must demonstrate, ask whether a success criterion is actually testable, question a data structure choice, read the student's own documentation and respond with questions and criteria references. A tutor may not write code for the solution, debug it by supplying corrected lines, or draft documentation text. Supplying any part of assessed work is malpractice under IB rules and the consequence falls on the candidate.

05

The Higher Level case study, and why it should be started early

Higher Level candidates sit an additional paper based on a case study released by the IB ahead of the examination. It describes a scenario and names specific technologies, and the paper asks candidates to apply core content and researched understanding to that scenario. It is the most front-loadable assessment in the subject and the one most often left until the last month.

The reason it is left late is that it looks like reading. Students read the case study, feel they understand it, and move on. The paper does not reward having read it; it rewards knowing what each named technology actually is, how it works, what its limitations are, and how the core content applies to the scenario. Building that knowledge takes weeks of small research tasks, which is exactly the kind of work that fits into DP2 before the pressure arrives.

The productive method is a glossary. Every technology, protocol and acronym in the case study goes into a list, each one gets researched to the depth of a paragraph the student could write from memory, and then extended answers are practised that connect those terms to syllabus content. A tutor is genuinely useful here as a quality check on depth: students consistently stop researching at the point where they could recognise a term rather than explain it.

A practical caution about dates. The case study changes between examination sessions, so any material found online referring to a previous one is useless, and some of the tutoring market sells exactly that. Confirm with the school's teacher which case study is live for the session the student is sitting, and work only from that.

06

Why screen sharing is the right room for this subject

Most arguments about online tutoring concern whether video is an acceptable substitute for presence. For Computer Science the argument runs the other way: the work happens on a screen, and a session where both people can see and control the same screen is better than two people leaning over one laptop.

Three specifics. Debugging is observational work, and a tutor watching a student's editor in real time sees the moment the student guesses rather than reasons, which is the habit worth fixing. Tracing an algorithm benefits from a shared document both parties can annotate line by line. And documentation work is reading and commenting on a live file, which is native to a shared screen and clumsy on paper.

There is a fourth, less obvious advantage in a small-cohort subject. Over video, a Dubai student can be matched with somebody who has taught their specific option topic in their specific language, which is unlikely to be true of anybody within a twenty-minute drive. For a subject with single-figure Higher Level cohorts, that is the difference between a specialist and a willing generalist.

The honest case for a tutor in the room still exists for younger students who need supervision as much as teaching, and for households where connectivity is unreliable. IB Gram does not offer that service in the UAE regardless; home visits are part of our India offering only, and no sentence here should suggest otherwise. For a Diploma Programme Computer Science candidate, we think the trade is clearly the right way round.

07

Option topics, school choices and the mid-year move problem

Every Computer Science candidate studies one option topic, and the school chooses it. The content is examinable, it differs substantially between options, and a student cannot sensibly revise an option their school did not teach. Families should know which one their school selected, and it is worth asking the teacher directly rather than assuming.

This becomes a live problem in Dubai because the school population is mobile. A student who moves school mid-programme may arrive at a school teaching a different option topic, in a different programming language, having built a computational solution to a different timetable. That is three separate catch-up jobs, and the one families notice last is the option topic, because it does not surface until revision begins.

The sensible response is an audit rather than a panic. List what the previous school covered, list what the new school's option requires, and identify the gap precisely. Usually a term of fortnightly work closes it, and the earlier it is identified the less it costs. Where the programming language has changed, the solution may need to be restarted, which is a scheduling problem more than an academic one.

A practical note on advice from outside the UAE. Much of the Computer Science tutoring material online is written for a different option topic or a previous version of the guide. Dubai families should confirm the live specification and the chosen option with their school's Diploma Programme coordinator, and treat any tutor who does not ask which option the school teaches with appropriate caution.

08

Availability, fallback and what we will not pretend

Most tutoring pages end with an invitation. This one ends with a disclosure, because for a minority subject the honest constraint is supply. Higher Level Computer Science with case study support in the exam term is one of the narrowest specialisms we match, and there are weeks when nobody suitable has a slot.

When that happens, the options are a start date in the future, a tutor who covers the core content but not the specific option topic for interim work, or a recommendation to wait until after the mock window when demand eases. We say which one we are offering. No competitor page found in this cluster discloses a coverage limit at all, and several conceal non-local delivery behind a phone number; a family can reasonably treat silence on availability as a warning.

The practical advice that follows is to plan this subject earlier than any other. A Dubai family that identifies a Computer Science need in October of DP2 has a wide choice. The same family in February has whatever is left. Because the published rate bands do not rise in the exam term, waiting does not save money; it only reduces the set of people available.

One final verification point. Any individual tutoring privately in the UAE needs the MoHRE private tuition work permit introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. It is free for two years, applications run through MoHRE's smart app, website and e-services system with a stated two-working-day completion time, and MoHRE warns that tutoring without one attracts fines and penalties under the applicable laws. Ask. It is a reasonable question and it takes ten seconds.

Dubai communities Computer Science requests come from

Because the subject is a minority option, requests cluster tightly around the schools that offer it, and the pattern across the emirate is less about geography than about which school a community feeds.

Dubai Silicon Oasis and Academic City

Technology-sector households and several universities nearby, so parents often have professional programming experience and are surprised to find it does not translate into helping with written papers. Requests here are usually precise and component-named.

Emirates Hills and The Lakes

Feeds long-established Diploma Programme provision where Computer Science has been offered for years with a settled option topic. Requests tend to arrive early in DP1 and concern the computational solution rather than content.

Al Barsha South and Dubai Production City

Mixed housing with schools running both the IB and British routes, so siblings sometimes study Computer Science under different specifications. Families here frequently ask how the DP course differs from IGCSE Computer Science.

Dubai Marina and Jumeirah Beach Residence

High mid-year arrival rates, and Computer Science is particularly unforgiving of a mid-programme school move because the new school may have chosen a different option topic and a different programming language.

Mirdif and Al Nahda

Established eastern communities a long drive from much of the emirate's Diploma Programme provision. For a minority subject, the chance of a specialist living within a reasonable travel radius is small, which is where video delivery stops being a preference.

Dubai Hills Estate and Al Barari

Newer villa communities with a growing secondary population and families often planning Group 4 choices a year ahead. The common question is whether Computer Science or Physics is the better keep-options-open pick.

Business Bay and Za'abeel

Apartment living with short commutes, which makes weekday sessions straightforward. Computational solution work is easier to schedule here than in communities where sport and the school run take the early evening.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Ask the school three things first

Which programming language is taught, which option topic was chosen, and what the internal deadline for the computational solution is. Those three facts shape every sensible tutoring decision that follows, and no tutor can supply them for you.

  2. 02

Send a written answer, not just code

A marked written paper answer tells us more than a repository does, because written papers carry most of the marks. A solution draft is useful too, particularly the documentation sections rather than the program itself.

  3. 03

Run the five checks on the matched tutor

Language, documentation sections, option topic, case study mechanics, MoHRE permit. The trial session is free and is the right place to ask all five. A tutor who answers all of them precisely is worth booking.

  4. 04

Book early for a thin-cohort subject

Rates do not rise in the exam term, but availability collapses. A family looking in October of DP2 has a choice of specialists; the same family in February has whatever remains. This is the subject where planning ahead buys the most.

  5. 05

Review against written answers and documentation

Progress shows up in specific places: command terms answered properly, trace tables completed correctly, design decisions recorded as they are made. Those are what we check, rather than whether the program got longer.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Verification before price

Five questions with checkable answers, published so a Dubai parent can run them on any provider including this one. No other page found in this cluster gives a parent a way to test a Computer Science tutor's claims.

The marks are named honestly

Most of the grade is written prose about systems, and the internal component is assessed on documentation rather than working software. Saying so loses us the parent who wanted to hear that programming ability is enough.

Option topic treated as school-specific

A tutor who does not ask which option the school chose is guessing at examinable content. We ask first, because option content differs substantially and a student cannot revise what their school did not teach.

Screen sharing suits this subject

Debugging is observational, tracing wants a shared annotated document, and documentation feedback happens in a live file. Two-way screen sharing is better for this work than two people over one laptop, not a substitute for it.

A firm line on the solution

No code written, no lines supplied, no documentation drafted. The tutor explains what each section must demonstrate and asks questions. Supplying assessed work is malpractice under IB rules and the penalty falls on the student.

Availability disclosed in advance

Higher Level case study support is the narrowest specialism here, and we say so with a fallback rather than taking the booking and hoping. No page found in this market discloses a coverage limit at all.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

How do I check whether a Computer Science tutor really knows the IB course?+

Ask five things. Which programming language have you taught this course in, what must the computational solution documentation contain section by section, which option topic does my child's school teach, how does the Higher Level case study paper work, and do you hold a MoHRE private tuition work permit. A genuine Diploma Programme tutor answers all five quickly. A professional programmer with no course experience will answer the first well and the rest vaguely, usually by describing how they would build the program rather than what the documentation has to demonstrate.

Is IB Computer Science mostly a programming course?+

No, and assuming otherwise is the most expensive mistake families make in this subject. Most of the grade comes from written examination papers on system fundamentals, computer organisation, networks and computational thinking, with Higher Level adding abstract data structures, resource management and control. The internally assessed computational solution is judged on documentation rather than on working software. A student who programs fluently and writes poorly about systems will underperform, which is why written answers matter more in tutoring than code review does.

What does the computational solution documentation have to contain?+

It records the planning, design, development, functionality and evaluation of a product built for an identified client, with success criteria agreed with that client. The marks reward decisions documented as they were made, including alternatives rejected and why. Students who develop for weeks and document afterwards are reconstructing a narrative, and it reads as one. Confirm the exact current requirements with the school's teacher, because the subject guide is revised periodically and older material online describes a previous version.

Can a tutor help with the computational solution without writing code?+

Yes, and that is the only legitimate form of help. A tutor can explain what each documented section must demonstrate, ask whether a success criterion is genuinely testable, question a data structure choice, read the student's own documentation and respond with questions and criteria references. A tutor cannot write code, supply corrected lines while debugging, or draft documentation text. Supplying any part of assessed work is malpractice under IB rules, and the consequence falls on the candidate rather than on whoever provided it.

Does anyone come to our home in Dubai for Computer Science lessons?+

No. IB Gram runs no home visits anywhere in the UAE; in-home tutoring is a service we offer only in India. Computer Science support for Dubai families is one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time with two-way screen sharing. For this subject the format is an advantage rather than a compromise: debugging is observational work best watched live on the student's own editor, and documentation feedback happens in a shared file rather than on a printed draft.

Why does my child's school teach a different option topic from their friend's?+

Because the school chooses it. Every candidate studies one option topic, the content is examinable, and the options differ substantially from each other. Two Dubai schools a few kilometres apart may teach different options, which matters when students compare revision notes or when a family moves school mid-programme. Ask the teacher directly which option is being taught, and treat any tutor who does not ask you the same question with caution, because they are guessing at examinable content.

How early should we start preparing the Higher Level case study?+

Months before the examination. The case study is released ahead of the session and rewards knowing what each named technology actually is, how it works and what its limitations are, which takes weeks of small research tasks. Students consistently stop researching at the point where they can recognise a term rather than explain it. Build a glossary of every technology and acronym, research each to the depth of a paragraph written from memory, then practise extended answers connecting those terms to syllabus content.

My child moved Dubai schools mid-Diploma. What does that break in Computer Science?+

Potentially three things at once: the programming language taught, the option topic chosen, and the timetable for the computational solution. The language and the solution surface quickly; the option topic usually goes unnoticed until revision, which is the worst time to discover it. Audit the gap early by listing what the previous school covered against what the new school's option requires. A term of fortnightly work normally closes it, and identifying it in DP1 costs far less than finding it in DP2.

Why is it hard to find a Computer Science tutor in Dubai specifically?+

Supply, not price. The International Baccalaureate accounted for roughly 7% of Dubai private-school enrolment in 2024-25, Computer Science is a minority option inside the Diploma Programme, and Higher Level cohorts in a single school are often fewer than ten students. The pool of people in or near Dubai who have taught the Higher Level course is correspondingly small. Published rate bands do not rise in the exam term, so waiting does not save money; it only shrinks the set of specialists still available.

What do written Computer Science papers penalise most often?+

Command terms handled loosely. A question that says outline wants a brief account, explain wants reasons and evaluate wants a weighed judgement, and technically strong students often write everything they know, collecting the marks for one command term and none for the others. The second recurring loss is pseudocode written in the syntax of a real programming language, which forfeits convention marks. Trace tables are the third: pure technique, examined regularly, and improved quickly by practice rather than by more content.

Which mathematics course should a Computer Science student take in Dubai?+

Analysis and Approaches is the usual choice for students aiming at computer science degrees, because algebraic fluency and proof habits transfer to complexity reasoning and to the Higher Level abstract data structures content. Applications and Interpretation suits students heading towards data or information systems, with statistics and modelling supporting the data-handling side of a solution. Some overseas computer science degrees state a preference, so check the entry requirements of likely destinations in Year 11 rather than after the choice is locked.

Can my child find a real client in Dubai for the solution?+

Yes, and a real client makes the component far easier. A good client is someone who will answer questions and actually wants something: a librarian, a coach recording results on paper, a small business tracking bookings in a notebook. Dubai has no shortage of these. The student approaches them honestly, explains what the work is for, promises nothing, and derives the success criteria from the client's real need, which is what makes the evaluation section possible to write.

Does a Computer Science tutor in the UAE need a government permit?+

Yes. The MoHRE private tuition work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, applies to any individual providing private tuition in the UAE. It is granted free of charge for two years, with eligible applicants including registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18 and university students. MoHRE's own service page lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time through its smart app, website and e-services system, and warns that tutoring without one attracts fines and penalties.

Is online material about IB Computer Science reliable?+

Treat it carefully. Much of what circulates was written for a previous version of the subject guide or for a different option topic, and case study material refers to a session that has already passed. Some of the tutoring market sells exactly that, repackaged. Confirm the live specification and the chosen option with your school's Diploma Programme coordinator, and work only from material that matches both. A tutor who does not ask which option and which language your school uses cannot be working from the right material either.

What happens if no Higher Level Computer Science specialist is free?+

We tell you, and name the alternative. The options are a start date in the future, a tutor who covers the core content but not the specific option topic for interim work, or a recommendation to wait until after the mock window when demand eases. Case study support in the exam term is the narrowest specialism we match. No competitor page found in this cluster discloses a coverage limit at all, so silence about availability from any provider is worth treating as a warning rather than as reassurance.

Run the five checks, then book early

Find out from the school which language and which option topic your child is studying, send a marked written answer rather than a code repository, and use the free trial session to run the five checks on whoever is matched. For a subject with single-figure Higher Level cohorts in Dubai, booking in October costs the same per hour as booking in February and gives you a far wider choice of specialist. Sessions run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time with two-way screen sharing; home visits are not part of our UAE service. The AED bands here were published by the providers named and read in October 2026.
