Certified IGCSE Tutor in Dubai

Parents searching for a certified IGCSE tutor in Dubai are usually asking two different questions at once: is this person legally permitted to tutor in the UAE, and are they qualified to teach the specification my child is entered for. This page separates them. It sets out the permit position under UAE law, the credentials that exist and what each one evidences, and then the thing no certificate tells you: what IGCSE papers assess and where marks go missing. Lessons run online over live video, one-to-one.

IB & IGCSE in Dubai

Two questions hiding inside one word

Certified is doing a lot of work in this search, and it is worth pulling apart before anything else. One meaning is legal: the UAE regulates private tuition through a work permit, and a tutor operating without one is in breach of it. The other meaning is professional: whether this person has a teaching qualification, a relevant degree, and real familiarity with the specification your child will sit. Those are separate things. A tutor can hold the permit and have never taught Cambridge Chemistry 0620, or hold a doctorate in chemistry and no permit at all.

The legal position is clear and worth stating in full. Private tuition in the UAE is covered by the private tutor work permit introduced under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, administered by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. The permit is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers working in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed residents, university students, and school students aged 15 to 18. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit from MoHRE are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule is published, so no figure should be quoted to you by anyone.

The professional position is where most of a parent's money is decided, and it is less tidy. There is no single IGCSE tutoring certificate. What exists is a set of credentials, each of which evidences something narrow: a degree evidences subject knowledge, a teaching qualification evidences training in instruction, school employment evidences that an institution made a hiring judgement, and specification experience evidences familiarity with the papers themselves. Parents frequently buy the first and need the last. The tables below map which is which and how each can be checked.

IB Gram is an independent IB and IGCSE tutor-matching platform. It does not hold or claim approval, accreditation or licensing from KHDA, from the Ministry of Education, from Cambridge International or from Pearson, has no partnership with any school named on this page, and operates no office in the UAE. A KHDA Educational Services Permit is a specific thing issued to training institutes with premises in Dubai, and IB Gram does not hold one. Saying so plainly is more useful to you than the phrase this market overuses.

Because the brief for this page is what the papers assess and where marks are lost, the second half goes there. A credential tells you what someone has done; it does not tell you that Extended Mathematics awards marks for working your child is not writing down, that Physics Paper 6 loses candidates marks on graph axes and controls, or that a correct Economics definition earns nothing if it is never applied to the stimulus material. Those are the things a session fixes, and they are the reason certification is a floor rather than an answer. Tuition for UAE families is delivered online, one-to-one, over live video; IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE, and home visiting is offered only in India.

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Credentials matter differently at each stage of a British-curriculum school career in Dubai, and the certificate a family is ultimately working towards is the IGCSE itself rather than anything a tutor holds. These are the stages and what each one is assessed on.

IGCSE-COREAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

IGCSE Core tier

Core candidates sit the Core paper set and are assessed on a narrower band of syllabus content. On Cambridge syllabuses the Core papers cap the available grade at C, which means the tier itself limits what the eventual certificate can show. The assessment demand is lower but the command terms are identical, so the marks still turn on reading the question properly.

Dubai schools finalise entries months before the papers are sat, so the Core-or-Extended decision stops being a live choice partway through Year 10. Where a child needs a subject at A Level or Higher Level in the Diploma, a Core entry can close that door administratively. A diagnostic session can tell you whether the Extended content is reachable from where your child is, which is the evidence that conversation with the school needs.

IGCSE-EXTAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

IGCSE Extended tier

Extended carries the full syllabus and the full grade range, reported as A* to G or 9 to 1 depending on the syllabus and the school's convention. The additional content is where most marks are lost: non-linear algebra and transformations in Maths, moles and electrolysis in Chemistry, momentum and electromagnetic induction in Physics. The papers are longer and the method marks are worth more.

Extended dominates in the Dubai schools feeding sixth forms that run A Level or the IB Diploma, because both post-16 routes assume the Extended content. Dubai sixth forms publish their own per-subject entry thresholds rather than working to a national standard, and because many campuses run both routes, the same Extended grade can be enough for one and short for the other.

MANDATORY-UAEAll year groups in Dubai private schools

Mandatory UAE subjects alongside the curriculum

Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies run alongside the licensed international curriculum in Dubai private schools under KHDA requirements, regardless of which curriculum the school is licensed for. These are separate courses with their own requirements rather than a cultural add-on, and they occupy real timetable hours that families planning tuition should account for.

KHDA requires schools to organise separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, and states that combined classes for both groups are strictly prohibited because of different curriculum expectations and language of instruction. Instructional time is calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit, and for any mandatory subject it is advised that a lesson runs at least 25 minutes.

EQUIVAges 16-19 · after the IGCSE certificate

Ministry of Education equivalency at 16 to 18

For UAE university entry, the certificate that matters is the Ministry of Education equivalency attestation rather than anything a tutor holds. On the British track, students must pass five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates with a grade of no less than E or grade 3, plus one accredited subject at Advanced Level at no less than E, or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade.

Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five required subjects for the GCSE or IGCSE count. One page ranking for these queries states that UAE candidates must take six IGCSE subjects, which does not match the published rule. IB Gram does not perform or guarantee equivalency; the process belongs to the Ministry and its figures should be verified on the Ministry's own pages before any family plans around them.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

A credential does not tell you where the marks go. For each subject below, the specific loss is named: that is what a session fixes, and it is the thing to test a prospective tutor on rather than their certificate.

Mathematics (0580)

Core and Extended

Extended candidates lose method marks for working done mentally and never written. Transformations, algebraic fraction manipulation and multi-step problems are the reliable losses. A session fixes the habit of recording a line of working before an answer, which is worth marks on every paper.

Additional Mathematics (0606)

Extended only

Assumes fluency that 0580 only introduces, so the losses are not carelessness but genuine gaps in prerequisite algebra and trigonometry. A session fixes the prerequisite rather than the topic in front of the student, which is why diagnosing it properly saves hours.

Physics (0625)

Core and Extended

Two distinct losses. In the theory papers, momentum, circuits and electromagnetic induction demand exact formula use and a stated relationship before substitution. In Paper 6, candidates lose marks on graph axes, significant figures, and describing a control instead of naming one.

Chemistry (0620)

Core and Extended

The mole is the single biggest determinant of an Extended grade. Candidates who cannot move between mass, moles and concentration unprompted lose marks across several papers at once. Electrolysis, rates of reaction and the final organic topics are the other predictable losses.

Biology (0610)

Core and Extended

Marked strictly against command terms. Students who know the content still score half marks by describing where the question says explain, and by using everyday words where the specification has a precise term. A session fixes command-term discipline, which is a rule rather than revision.

English Language (0500) and English as a Second Language (0510)

First and second language routes

The reading-response marks are among the most teachable on any IGCSE paper because they reward a specific technique rather than general flair. The more consequential issue in Dubai cohorts is children entered for the wrong one of the two routes, which is a question for the school.

Economics (0455) and Business Studies (0450)

Core and Extended

Lost on the long questions. Candidates define terms accurately, then never connect them to the data or the case study, so application and evaluation marks go unclaimed. A session fixes answer structure and the discipline of quoting the stimulus material.

Computer Science (0478)

Extended only

Paper 2 requires algorithms in the published pseudocode conventions, and students fluent in Python lose marks writing Python instead. Paper 1 theory on data representation and networks rewards exact vocabulary, which responds well to a structured list and short recall testing.

Arabic as a First Language (0508) and Foreign Language (0544)

Both routes

Arabic runs alongside the international curriculum in Dubai private schools under KHDA requirements, and the first-language and additional-language routes are different courses with different demands. Children are sometimes placed by nationality rather than competence, and the placement is worth checking before tuition starts.

Coordinated and Combined Sciences (0654, 0653)

Core and Extended

Three disciplines compressed into one or two grades, so a weakness in one pulls the result down invisibly. A diagnostic that reports performance separately by discipline is worth the first hour, because the actual fix is almost always narrower than the overall grade suggests.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

These are the three session shapes available for IGCSE work, all delivered online. The credential question is the same in each; what differs is how much specification-specific knowledge the format actually calls on.

Weekly one-to-one through the year

One subject, one specification, one weekly slot, tracking the school's scheme of work so the tutor is fixing this week's lesson while the homework is still open. This is where a general teaching qualification is most useful, because the work spans content, technique and the tier decision rather than one paper.

  • Written work marked against the published criteria between sessions
  • Works from the specification code on the statement of entry
  • A short written note after each session naming what changed
  • Pauses for school trips and study leave without losing the slot

A short diagnostic block

Four to six sessions to establish what is wrong and how many hours it would take. Session one is a timed past-paper section rather than an interview. This format tests a tutor's specification knowledge hardest and fastest, because reading the working and naming the loss is the entire job.

  • Session one is a marked timed paper under exam conditions
  • Findings specific enough to be re-tested in a fortnight
  • Ends with an hour estimate you can budget against
  • No obligation to continue once the block finishes

Exam-term paper practice

Two or three shorter sessions a week in the eight to ten weeks before the papers, every one built on timed work marked beforehand. Here specification experience outweighs every other credential, because the value lies in knowing the mark distribution of the specific papers and the predictable losses on them.

  • Comparable timed papers so the mark trend is readable
  • Explicit triage: what is being left out and why
  • Built around the series your child is entered for
  • Scheduling that works around Ramadan timings and study leave

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai

What certified can and cannot mean for an IGCSE tutor in Dubai

  • No board or regulator issues an IGCSE tutoring certificate
  • The MoHRE permit is permission to tutor, not evidence of teaching ability
  • A degree evidences subject knowledge; a PGCE evidences training in instruction
  • Specification experience is the credential most parents actually need

There is no IGCSE tutoring certificate. No examination board issues one, no UAE regulator issues one, and any provider implying otherwise is describing something that does not exist. What exists is a set of separate credentials, each evidencing a narrow thing, plus one legal requirement that applies to the activity rather than the person's teaching ability. Knowing which is which turns a vague reassurance into a checkable list.

The distinction that matters most is between permission and competence. The MoHRE private tuition work permit is permission: it says the holder may lawfully provide private lessons in the UAE. It says nothing about whether they can teach Cambridge Physics 0625. A PGCE or equivalent teaching qualification evidences training in instruction. A degree evidences subject knowledge at a level above the syllabus. School employment evidences that an institution made a hiring judgement about that person. Specification experience, which is what most parents actually need, is evidenced by nothing except a track record someone can describe in detail.

The table below is the map. Use it as a question list rather than a demand: a tutor who can tell you which of these they hold, and what each one covers, is already more transparent than most profiles in this market. IB Gram holds no regulator or board approval of its own, does not operate a UAE office, and does not hold a KHDA Educational Services Permit, which is the specific permit issued to training institutes with premises in Dubai. Where a credential matters to you, the last column is how to check it without taking anyone's word.

The UAE private tuition permit, by category of tutor

Private tuition in the UAE is regulated by permit. The private tutor work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 Regarding the Introduction of Private Tuition Work Permits, and it is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers working in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students. The application route is MoHRE's own service, Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, available through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system, with a stated two-working-day completion time.

Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit from MoHRE are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws. No fine schedule is published anywhere official. A figure circulating online could not be verified against any ministry source, and Khaleej Times reported that the ministry did not specify the fine amounts or detail the penalties. Any provider quoting a specific fine to you is repeating an unverified number, which is itself a useful signal about the rest of their claims.

One condition deserves emphasis because it affects a very common request. In Abu Dhabi, ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and the permit's code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with the holder's own school. This is press-reported rather than quoted from the policy document itself, so verify it against current ADEK material before relying on it. The practical point stands in any emirate: your child's own classroom teacher, privately, is not a request to make.

Who regulates your child's school, and why it matters to tuition

Dubai private schools are overseen by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, which is responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate. KHDA inspects annually on a six-band scale from Outstanding to Very Weak, and each school's rating and published fee sit on its own KHDA profile. That profile, rather than a school's prospectus, is the place to check what a school actually offers and how it was last judged.

Across the rest of the country the picture differs, and almost no competitor page says so. Abu Dhabi and Al Ain fall under the Department of Education and Knowledge, which supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in the emirate. Sharjah has the Sharjah Private Education Authority, which regulates private education there. Ras Al Khaimah's Department of Knowledge does the same, and the Ministry of Education plays a pivotal role in supervising private schools in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. Sharjah's and Ras Al Khaimah's authorities approve tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods, so curriculum approval and not only inspection sits with the emirate.

For a Dubai family the practical use of this is twofold. First, inspection reports are a free, independent read on the department teaching your child, and a school rated well overall can still have a weak department. Second, if you relocate within the UAE, the regulator changes and so do some of the rules around tuition and school transfer. Context on Dubai specifically: KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that there would be no increase in private school fees in the emirate for the 2026-27 academic year, and Dubai's 2026-27 intake adds seven new private schools creating 16,846 new places.

What no certificate tells you: how IGCSE papers award marks

  • Grades turn on patterned, diagnosable losses rather than general weakness
  • Command-term errors are a rule problem that revision does not fix
  • Method and stated-formula marks are published structure, not presentation preferences
  • The skill worth paying for is knowing which loss to teach first

IGCSE grades are produced by papers marked to published criteria, and the criteria are specific. That specificity is the whole opportunity. A candidate does not lose a grade because they are weak at Chemistry; they lose it because they cannot move between mass, moles and concentration without prompting, and that single inability costs marks in three separate papers. Diagnosing at that level of detail is a skill, and it is one no credential on the previous tables evidences.

Command terms are the clearest case. Describe, explain and suggest ask for different things, and a student who answers all three as if they said describe loses application and evaluation marks consistently, on every paper, in every series. Content revision does not touch it, because the student believes they answered the question. The fix is a rule, taught once and tested repeatedly on marked work, and it is usually worth more marks in a term than any amount of re-teaching the syllabus.

Method marks are the second case. Extended Mathematics awards marks for working; candidates who compute mentally and write only a result lose marks on answers that were substantially correct. Physics awards a mark for stating the relationship before substituting into it. Paper 6 in the sciences awards marks for labelling axes properly, quoting significant figures consistently and naming a control rather than gesturing at one. None of this is secret. It is published structure, and the value a tutor adds is knowing which of it is costing your child the most and teaching that first.

05

Where IGCSE marks actually go missing, by subject and component

The table in this section is the practical centre of the page. Each row names a subject, the component where marks are most often lost, the specific failure behind that loss, and what a session does about it. It is also a useful test of a prospective tutor: read them a row for your child's subject and ask whether they agree and what they would add. A tutor with real specification experience will immediately qualify or extend it; one without will agree pleasantly.

Two patterns run through every row. The first is that the loss is almost always narrower than the grade implies. A grade 5 across a science subject usually traces to two or three recurring failures, not to a general deficit, which is why a diagnostic hour is worth more than a term of coverage. The second is that a large share of the losses are about how an answer is written rather than what the student knows, which is why marked written work between sessions matters more than lesson time.

What a session cannot do is also worth stating. It cannot install content that was never taught, in the weeks before a paper, across a whole syllabus. Where a child arrives eight weeks out with large content gaps, the honest plan is triage: pick the two or three topics carrying the most available marks for that child and say explicitly which parts of the specification are being left alone. A tutor unwilling to name what they are not covering is not planning, and the result is thin coverage of everything.

The certificate that actually matters: Ministry of Education equivalency

For families intending a UAE university, the document that decides things is not a tutor's credential but the Ministry of Education's equivalency attestation of your child's qualifications. On the British track the published requirement is five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates with a grade of no less than E or grade 3, together with one accredited subject at Advanced Level with a grade of no less than E, or two accredited subjects at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five required subjects.

That five-subject rule is worth holding onto, because at least one page ranking for UAE tutoring queries states that candidates must take six IGCSE subjects. For the American track, English proficiency requires a score of 5 in the IELTS academic test, 61 in the TOEFL iBT, or 450 in the reading and writing section of the SAT, and mathematics requires at least 450 in the SAT Math test before applying. For the IB, no points threshold is published in the source this page relies on, so none is quoted here: verify any IB figure on the Ministry's own pages or with the emirate attestation authority.

Two cautions. IB Gram does not perform, expedite or guarantee equivalency; it is a Ministry process and families should use the official channel. And tuition is not required for equivalency, for university admission or for school progression, so treat any provider framing it that way as applying false urgency to a regulatory process. What tuition can legitimately do is help a child reach the grades that the rule counts, which is a different and more honest claim.

Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies alongside the IGCSE

Dubai private schools teach Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies alongside whichever international curriculum they are licensed for, and these are not optional enrichment. KHDA's mandatory-subject requirements apply regardless of the licensed curriculum, and the authority stated that its requirements must be implemented by the start of the 2025-26 academic year, or April 2026 for schools whose year starts in April. The federal baseline behind this is that private schools are not obliged to follow a specific curriculum beyond Arabic language, social studies and Islamic studies, but must adhere to the Ministry's general regulations.

The organisational rules are specific and worth knowing, because they explain a good deal of what parents observe. For Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, schools must organise separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs, and combined classes for both groups are strictly prohibited because of the different curriculum expectations and language of instruction. Standard Arabic is required as the main language of instruction for Islamic Education for Arabs and for Arabic as a first language, and Arabic is the primary language for Social Studies for Arab students, with the school's licensed-curriculum language used for non-Arabs in Islamic Education and in Moral, Social and Cultural studies.

Two further details matter for planning. Instructional time for the mandatory subjects is calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit, schools may vary lesson length provided the total weekly time is met, and it is advised that any mandatory subject lesson runs at least 25 minutes. Schools are also required to ensure that all teachers of Islamic Education and Arabic have appropriate KHDA approval to teach these subjects. For the mandatory subjects, the use of any different or additional content without prior permission from the Ministry is strictly prohibited, which is a real constraint on how tutoring material for these subjects can be described.

The boundary no credential removes: assessed work

  • A tutor gives feedback on the student's own work and supplies no text for a submission
  • No credential changes what may be done with an assessed component
  • Syllabuses, papers and mark schemes are referenced and linked, not redistributed
  • A provider vague about this boundary has told you where it stands

Some IGCSE subjects carry assessed components that must be the student's own, and no qualification a tutor holds changes what may be done with them. A tutor teaches, explains the criteria, gives feedback on what a student has already produced, and coaches planning and redrafting. They do not supply text for a submission and do not edit a piece to completion on the student's behalf. The consequence of crossing that line lands on the child, as a malpractice matter, rather than on the person who crossed it.

This boundary is not hypothetical in the UAE market. One operation found in research for these pages sells completed Internal Assessments outright at a published price, which is an academic-integrity breach and, for the student, an expulsion risk. The reason to state the boundary on a page like this rather than in small print is that parents are entitled to know where a provider stands before a tutor is in a room with their child, and a provider vague about it has answered the question.

There is a related limit on materials. Boards publish syllabuses, past papers and mark schemes under their own terms, and reproducing or supplying them as downloads is not something a tutor should offer. The right practice is to reference them, cite the official source, and point families to the board's own pages: cambridgeinternational.org for Cambridge syllabuses and timetables, qualifications.pearson.com for Pearson International GCSE material. A tutor who works from the published criteria and sends you the link is doing it properly.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across Dubai

Where a family lives in Dubai changes when a session can start and which regulator governs the school, but not which credentials a tutor needs. These are the areas families ask about most, with the practical detail that affects scheduling.

Dubai Marina, JBR and Al Sufouh

Apartment living with school buses arriving late, so sessions realistically start from 17:00. All private schools here fall under KHDA, which publishes each school's inspection rating and fee on its own profile, and those profiles are the place to check what a school actually offers.

Mirdif, Al Warqa and Al Mizhar

Villa communities with nearby schools and early home times, supporting 16:00 starts. Large IGCSE cohorts and heavy demand for Maths and the sciences, which is where credential questions most often turn into specification questions.

Dubai Hills Estate and Arabian Ranches

Wide catchments feeding the Al Qudra and Umm Suqeim school corridors, with several campuses running both A Level and the IB Diploma. Families here often need to know which post-16 route they are targeting before setting an IGCSE grade target.

Jumeirah 1, 2 and 3

Short school runs, early session starts, and long-established British-curriculum schools with published KHDA inspection histories. Mandatory Arabic and Islamic Education provision varies in quality between these schools, and that is visible in inspection reports.

Business Bay, Downtown and DIFC

Tower living where the practical constraint is a room with a door that shuts. Session timing here often works better before parents are home rather than after, and online delivery makes that slot available without a second journey.

Jumeirah Village Circle, Al Furjan and Discovery Gardens

School runs crossing Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road, where afternoon journeys double. A 17:30 start is realistic. These are also the areas where a visiting tutor's travel time would be charged for and buy nothing a parent wants.

Deira, Bur Dubai and Al Qusais

British and Indian-curriculum schools side by side, with strong IGCSE Maths and science demand. Session timing is usually built around Maghrib and family dinner rather than around traffic, and shifts again through Ramadan.

Dubai South, Mudon and Town Square

Outlying communities where the local pool of specification-specific tutors is thinnest. Credentials are easy to find; experience of 0606 or 0478 within driving distance is not, which is the clearest practical argument for an online match.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai

KHDA-regulated schools serving Marina, Al Barsha and Tecom

All private schools in Dubai are inspected by KHDA, which is responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate. Students we support attend schools in this cluster; the names are market context, not a relationship.

  • Dubai College
  • Kings' School Al Barsha
  • GEMS Wellington International School
  • Dubai British School Jumeirah Park
  • Dubai International Academy

Schools serving Mirdif, Al Warqa and Al Qusais

A mix of British and Indian-curriculum provision with large IGCSE cohorts. Each school's inspection rating and published fee sit on its KHDA profile, which is the only source a parent should rely on for either.

  • Uptown International School
  • GEMS Modern Academy
  • Star International School Mirdif
  • Deira International School

Schools serving Dubai Hills, the Ranches and Al Qudra

Villa-community schools with wide catchments, several running both post-16 routes on one campus, so the IGCSE thresholds a family works towards depend on which route they intend.

  • Jumeirah English Speaking School Arabian Ranches
  • GEMS Metropole School
  • Dubai Heights Academy
  • Ranches Primary School

Schools are named as context for the Dubai IGCSE market. IB Gram has no affiliation, partnership or endorsement from any school, school group or examination board named on this page.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Ask for the permit and the specification in the same message

Two questions settle most of this page. Does the tutor hold a MoHRE private tuition work permit, and which specification codes and tiers have they taught? The first is permission, the second is competence, and a tutor who answers both precisely has saved you a week of profile reading.

  2. 02

A free trial lesson, with no card details taken

One session before any payment. Use it as a test rather than an introduction: hand the tutor a piece of your child's returned work and ask where the marks went. The specificity of that answer in the first few minutes tells you more about competence than any certificate.

  3. 03

A diagnostic from timed written work

The first working session uses a past-paper section under timed conditions, and the output is a named list of causes, an hour estimate and a review date. Expect the causes to be narrow and checkable, in the language of the table above rather than in general terms.

  4. 04

Weekly sessions with marked work between them

A timed set at consistent difficulty, marked against the published criteria before each session, plus a short note on what changed. The tutor should be working from the specification code on your child's statement of entry and the school's own assessment calendar.

  5. 05

Verify anything that matters to you yourself

Permits, inspection ratings and equivalency rules are all published by the body responsible. KHDA holds each Dubai school's rating and fee, MoHRE administers the tuition permit, and the Ministry of Education publishes equivalency requirements. Nothing on this page is a substitute for those sources.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The permit position stated with its source

Private tuition in the UAE sits under the MoHRE permit introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, granted free of charge for two years. This page names the resolution, the eligible categories and the official application route, and quotes no fine figure, because none is published.

No claimed regulator or board approval

IB Gram is an independent tutor-matching platform. It does not hold or claim approval from KHDA, the Ministry of Education, Cambridge International or Pearson, holds no KHDA Educational Services Permit, and operates no UAE office. Where a credential matters, this page says how to check it.

Credentials mapped to what they actually evidence

A permit evidences permission. A degree evidences subject knowledge. A teaching qualification evidences training. Specification experience evidences familiarity with the papers your child will sit. Conflating them is how families pay for the wrong thing, so the page separates them.

The equivalency rule published correctly

Five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than E or grade 3, excluding Arabic and Islamic education, plus one A Level at E or two AS Levels. At least one competing page publishes a six-subject requirement. No IB points figure is quoted here, because the source used does not publish one.

Stated limits on assessed work

A tutor teaches, reviews and gives feedback on work the student produced. No text is supplied for a submission and no piece is edited to completion. Board materials are referenced and linked rather than redistributed, because both boundaries protect the student rather than the provider.

Mandatory UAE subjects treated as real courses

Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies run alongside the licensed curriculum in Dubai private schools under KHDA requirements, with specific rules on class organisation and language of instruction. Almost no competing page mentions them, and they occupy real timetable hours.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

Is there such a thing as a certified IGCSE tutor in Dubai?+

Not as a single qualification. No examination board or UAE regulator issues an IGCSE tutoring certificate, so any provider implying one exists is describing something that does not. What exists is a legal permission and several separate credentials. The permission is the MoHRE private tuition work permit introduced under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. The credentials are a teaching qualification, a subject degree, school employment history, and a describable track record on the specification your child is entered for. Ask which of those a tutor holds, and treat the last as the one that most affects the teaching.

Do private tutors working with Dubai families need a MoHRE permit?+

Yes. Private tuition in the UAE is covered by the private tutor work permit introduced under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, and individuals offering private tutoring without a permit from MoHRE are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. The permit is granted free of charge for two years. Applications go through MoHRE's own service, Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, via the smart app, website or e-services system, with a stated two-working-day completion time. Anyone telling you the permit carries a fee is mistaken, and anyone quoting a fine amount is repeating an unverified figure.

Can my child's own schoolteacher tutor them privately in the UAE?+

That is the arrangement to avoid. In Abu Dhabi, ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit's code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with the holder's own school. This is press-reported rather than quoted from the policy document, so verify it against current ADEK material if it affects you directly. The principle holds in any emirate: a teacher who assesses your child's school work should not also be paid privately to prepare it.

What qualifications should I actually ask an IGCSE tutor for?+

Four things, in this order. Whether they hold a MoHRE private tuition work permit, because that is the legal position. Which specification codes and tiers they have taught, and how many cohorts, because that is the competence closest to what you need. What teaching qualification they hold and from where. And whether they can read one of your child's returned scripts and name where the marks went, which is a test rather than a credential and is available to you free in a trial lesson. The fourth usually tells you more than the first three combined.

Does a tutor need to be approved by KHDA to teach IGCSE in Dubai?+

KHDA's permits concern institutions rather than individual private tutors. A tutoring operation with premises and staff in Dubai needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, with initial approval first and annual renewal requested at least 30 days before expiry. An individual providing private lessons needs the MoHRE private tuition work permit instead. IB Gram holds no KHDA permit and does not describe itself as approved by KHDA, because it is not a training institute with premises in the emirate. Any provider using that phrase should be asked which permit it holds and for what.

Which five subjects count towards UAE equivalency for an IGCSE student?+

The published British-track rule requires five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at a grade of no less than E or grade 3, and Arabic and Islamic education are not included among those five. That sits alongside one accredited subject at Advanced Level at no less than E, or two accredited subjects at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. One page ranking for UAE tutoring queries states six subjects are required, which does not match the published rule. Verify the current requirement on the Ministry of Education's own pages, because IB Gram does not perform or guarantee equivalency.

Does a teaching certificate mean a tutor knows my child's exam papers?+

No, and conflating the two is the most expensive mistake on this page. A PGCE or equivalent evidences training in instruction and assessment generally. It does not evidence familiarity with Cambridge 0620 Paper 4 or Pearson 4PH1 Paper 2, and the paper-level knowledge is what moves marks in Year 11. A qualified teacher whose experience is on a different board will be learning your child's specification while teaching it. Ask which codes, which tier and how many cohorts, then ask what candidates at your child's grade most reliably lose marks on in that paper.

What does Core tier do to the grade on an IGCSE certificate?+

On Cambridge syllabuses the Core paper set caps the available grade at C, so the tier your child is entered for sets a ceiling on what the certificate can show regardless of performance. Because Dubai entries are submitted months before the papers, that ceiling is often fixed before parents realise it exists. If your child needs a subject at A Level or at Higher Level in the Diploma, the tier conversation belongs in the autumn term of Year 10, with evidence. A diagnostic session can establish whether the Extended content is reachable and roughly what it would cost in hours.

Are Arabic and Islamic Education compulsory in a Dubai IGCSE school?+

Yes. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are mandatory in Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum, under KHDA requirements that the authority stated must be implemented by the start of the 2025-26 academic year. KHDA also requires separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, with combined classes for both groups strictly prohibited because the curriculum expectations and language of instruction differ. Instructional time is calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit, with at least 25 minutes advised for any mandatory subject lesson.

Where do Extended Mathematics candidates in Dubai most reliably lose marks?+

On working they never wrote down. Extended papers award method marks for a visible route to an answer, and candidates who compute mentally lose marks on questions that were substantially correct. Beyond that habit, the consistent topic losses are algebraic fraction manipulation, transformations, and multi-step problems where a correct first step is followed by an unexplained jump. None of this is about ability. A session fixes the habit first, because writing one line of method before any answer recovers marks across every paper, and then addresses the topics in order of how many marks each is costing.

What does IGCSE Physics Paper 6 assess that the theory papers do not?+

Practical skills, and it is where otherwise strong candidates leak marks. The losses are patterned: axes unlabelled or scaled awkwardly, significant figures inconsistent between a table and a conclusion, a control mentioned rather than named, and descriptions of method that omit the measurement being taken. These are not knowledge failures, which is why revising the theory does not touch them. A session fixes them with a short checklist applied to past practical questions until it becomes automatic, and it is the component where a tutor who has marked those answers is worth most.

Can a certified tutor help with IGCSE coursework components?+

They can teach the skills, explain the criteria and give feedback on what the student has written. They cannot supply text for a submission or edit a piece to completion on the student's behalf, and no qualification changes that. The consequence of crossing the line is a malpractice matter that falls on the child rather than on the tutor. One operation researched for these pages sells completed Internal Assessments outright, which is exactly the practice this boundary exists to exclude. Ask any prospective tutor the question directly and listen for a clear answer rather than a comfortable one.

Will a certified tutor come to our home in Dubai?+

Not through IB Gram. Tuition for families in the UAE is delivered online, one-to-one, over live video, and in-home visiting is offered only in India. The in-home market in Dubai does exist, at roughly AED 180 to AED 500 an hour with travel inside the fee. What online delivery changes is which credentials and which specification experience are actually available to you: the pool becomes everyone who teaches your child's specification at a workable hour in Gulf Standard Time, rather than everyone willing to drive to your community.

How can I check a Dubai school's inspection rating for myself?+

Through KHDA, which is responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in Dubai and publishes each school's rating and fee on its own profile. Ratings run on a six-band scale from Outstanding to Very Weak. Two things are worth knowing when you read one. A school rated well overall can have a weak department, and the report usually says which. And the fee shown there is the authoritative figure: KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that there would be no increase in private school fees in the emirate for the 2026-27 academic year.

Does my child need tutoring to get Ministry of Education equivalency?+

No, and any provider implying otherwise is applying false urgency to a regulatory process. Equivalency is a Ministry assessment of qualifications already obtained, and it is the Ministry's process rather than a tutor's. What tuition can honestly do is help a child reach the grades that the rule counts: five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than E or grade 3, excluding Arabic and Islamic education. IB Gram does not perform, expedite or guarantee equivalency, and recommends checking the current requirement directly with the Ministry or the emirate attestation authority.

Two questions, asked in the right order

Ask whether the tutor holds a MoHRE private tuition work permit, and ask which specification codes and tiers they have taught and for how many cohorts. The first is the legal floor and the second is the thing that moves marks. Then use the free trial lesson as a test: hand them one of your child's returned scripts and ask where the marks went. A specific answer about method marks, command terms or a practical checklist tells you what no certificate can. Everything on this page that matters to you is published by KHDA, MoHRE or the Ministry of Education, and worth checking there.
