Cambridge IGCSE Global Perspectives 0457 Tutor in Dubai

A Cambridge IGCSE Global Perspectives 0457 tutor in Dubai is useful only if the work leaves evidence behind, because this is the one IGCSE where a student can look busy for a term and produce nothing a marker can reward. The documents that matter are a tested research question, a source-evaluation grid with the weak sources named, a commented report draft, and a reflective paper that reflects rather than summarises. This page shows what each looks like. Lessons run one-to-one over live video.

  • Research questions stress-tested before any source is collected
  • Source-evaluation grid built by the student, commented by the teacher
  • Draft feedback on the candidate's own writing only

The subject where effort and marks come apart

Cambridge IGCSE Global Perspectives 0457 produces a particular kind of parental frustration. The student is working. There are tabs open, there is a document with headings, there is a folder of articles. Then the mark comes back in the middle of the range and nobody can explain what went wrong, because unlike maths there is no wrong answer to point at and unlike history there is no missing date. The explanation is almost always the same: the work was research-shaped rather than assessed-shaped, and nothing in the file was ever measured against what the criteria reward.

The course is assessed three ways. There is a written examination of one hour fifteen minutes, worth 30% of the grade, answered from source material rather than from memorised content. There is the Individual Report, a piece of personal research of 1,500 to 2,000 words on a global topic from the syllabus list, worth 35%. And there is the Team Project, worth the remaining 35%, which combines a collaborative outcome with a personal reflective paper of roughly 700 to 1,000 words. No part of that is content you can revise in the ordinary sense, which is exactly why it rewards evidence-led teaching and punishes vague effort.

What the syllabus actually assesses is a set of named capabilities: researching a question, analysing information, evaluating sources and arguments, reflecting on your own thinking and on the team's work, collaborating, and communicating the result. Each of those is observable. A student either has a research question that can be answered in two thousand words or has a topic. They either evaluate their sources or list them. They either reflect on what changed in their own view or summarise what the team did. The gap between those pairs is where the marks live, and each gap is visible in a document long before the deadline.

That is the whole argument for an evidence-led approach in this subject specifically. In the first six weeks a 0457 tutor should produce four things: a research question that has survived being argued with, a source-evaluation grid in which at least one of the student's own favourite sources has been downgraded, a commented draft that names where argument has been replaced by description, and a reflection written to the criteria rather than as a diary entry. A parent who holds those four documents can see the state of the project. A parent holding a progress message cannot.

Lessons run one-to-one over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time, with the draft or the source on a shared screen. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai or anywhere else in the UAE; in-home tutoring is a service we run only in India. For 0457 that is more than a logistics note. The report requires a genuine local or national perspective alongside a global one, and a Dubai student has excellent local evidence available, from government open data to the emirate's own published statistics. The work is in choosing a question those sources can actually answer.

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Four situations in which Dubai students meet 0457, each needing a different first session. The situation matters more than the year group, because it determines what the first document should be.

0457-STANDALONEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

0457 as a timetabled option across Years 10 and 11

The standard route, where the school teaches the skills explicitly and runs the Team Project as a class activity. Support here is usually targeted: the research question, the source evaluation, and the reflective paper. The first document should be a question tested to destruction, because everything downstream depends on it being answerable.

Dubai schools vary widely in how much curriculum time 0457 receives, and several run it in a reduced block alongside the mandatory Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies periods. Where time is short, the Team Project tends to be compressed and the reflective paper written in a hurry, which is why reflection is the component most often underperforming in this market.

0457-PLUS-NINEAges 15-16 · Year 11

0457 carried alongside nine or ten other IGCSEs

For many candidates 0457 is the eleventh subject and the first to be deprioritised when science and maths deadlines collide. The honest support here is scheduling and scope control: a research question narrow enough to be finished, and a plan that puts the report ahead of exam preparation because the deadline is fixed and earlier.

The pressure is sharpest in the Dubai winter term, when mocks for other subjects land in the same weeks as the internal 0457 deadlines. Families who ask in September which school deadline comes first almost always find it is the Global Perspectives one, which is the opposite of what the subject's reputation suggests.

0457-TO-IBAges 15-17 · Year 11 into Year 12

0457 as preparation for the IB Diploma core

A student going on to the IB Diploma will meet the same demands again in larger form: a research question in the Extended Essay, evaluation of knowledge claims in Theory of Knowledge, and reflection throughout. A 0457 report done properly is genuine preparation; one assembled from summarised articles teaches a habit that costs marks later.

Dubai has one of the denser concentrations of IB schools in the region, and many families move from a British-curriculum IGCSE programme into the Diploma at sixteen. Treating 0457 as practice for the Diploma core rather than as a soft option is the single most useful reframing available to that group of students.

0457-TO-ASAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

After 0457: AS Global Perspectives and Research

The post-16 continuation raises the research demand substantially: a longer independent study, a formal literature base and a defended argument. Students who reached a strong 0457 grade by narrowing a question well and evaluating sources honestly are prepared. Those who reached it on fluent writing alone find the research component unfamiliar.

A smaller number of Dubai schools offer the post-16 course than offer 0457 itself, so a student who wants to continue should check availability in Year 11 rather than assume it. Where it is not offered, the Extended Essay in the IB Diploma or an independent project qualification covers similar ground.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

0457 is researched rather than taught, so the useful list is of topics from the syllabus and what local evidence a Dubai student can realistically reach for each. These are the areas our 0457 students most often work in.

Water, food and agriculture

0457 topic · report and exam

Strong for a Dubai candidate because desalination, food import dependence and controlled-environment agriculture are all documented locally and nationally. The trap is writing a report about water in general; the mark comes from a question narrow enough that local and global evidence can both be brought to bear.

Sustainable living

0457 topic · report and exam

Energy use, waste, building standards and consumption. Workable locally, with the risk that the student ends up describing initiatives rather than evaluating whether they work. A report that compares a stated target with a published outcome scores considerably better than one that lists schemes.

Urbanisation

0457 topic · report and exam

Few students anywhere have a better case study on their doorstep, and few over-use it more. The successful reports narrow hard: a single aspect of urban growth, examined with a named local source and a contrasting case from a different income context.

Transport systems

0457 topic · report and exam

Metro, road capacity, cycling infrastructure and freight. The local evidence base is unusually good, including published ridership and network data, which makes this one of the few topics where a 0457 candidate in Dubai can build an argument on primary statistics rather than commentary.

Migration

0457 topic · report and exam

A topic where perspective is the whole assessment: the same movement of people reads differently from the origin country, the destination economy and the individual household. A report that presents three genuinely different perspectives, rather than three sources agreeing, is what the criteria reward here.

Fuel and energy

0457 topic · report and exam

Supply, transition, cost and security. Rich in published national and international data, and vulnerable to the commonest 0457 failure: a report that is accurate, well written and makes no argument because the student never decided what the question was asking them to judge.

Employment

0457 topic · report and exam

Automation, youth unemployment, labour mobility and the informal economy. Works well where the student can compare a national statistic with a global trend and explain the difference, which is a higher-order move than describing either one on its own.

Education for all

0457 topic · report and exam

Access, quality and cost. Deliverable locally through published sector data, including the structure and scale of a private-school market that served 387,441 students across 227 schools in Dubai in 2024-25, offering 17 curricula. A strong topic for a student who can resist writing about their own school.

Disease and health

0457 topic · report and exam

Prevention, access and the gap between health systems. Demands care with sources, since health claims circulate widely in unreliable form, which makes it a good topic for a candidate whose source evaluation is already a strength and a poor one for a candidate whose is not.

Human rights

0457 topic · report and exam

A topic where candidates most often substitute conviction for evidence. The criteria reward perspectives supported by sources and a reflection on how the student's own view changed, not the strength of the view itself. Handled with discipline it produces some of the best reports in the subject.

Trade and aid

0457 topic · report and exam

Flows, dependency, conditionality and effectiveness. Among the most evidence-rich topics on the list, and one where a Dubai student can draw on the emirate's position as a re-export hub as a genuinely local perspective rather than a decorative mention.

Digital world

0457 topic · report and exam

Access, data, misinformation and the effects of online life. Attractive to students and the hardest to keep narrow, because every sub-question opens three more. A report here succeeds or fails on whether the question was cut down to something two thousand words can answer.

Changing communities

0457 topic · report and exam

Demographic shift, identity and the effects of mobility. Well suited to a city where a large share of residents were born elsewhere, giving a candidate access to local perspective that is genuinely their own rather than borrowed from a published commentary.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three shapes of 0457 support, each producing a different document. All three are delivered one-to-one over live video, and none involves attendance at a UAE address.

Report supervision block

Four to six sessions spaced around the school's internal deadlines, each built on something the student has already written. The reading happens between sessions and the session is spent arguing with the question, the perspectives and the evidence. The most valuable block in the course and the one with the firmest boundaries.

  • The research question stress-tested until it can be answered in 2,000 words
  • Source-evaluation grid built by the student, commented by the teacher
  • Perspectives checked for being genuinely different rather than agreeing
  • Feedback on the candidate's own draft only; no text supplied for them

Written-paper source drill

Three to five sessions on the one-hour-fifteen-minute written examination, which is answered from printed source material rather than from recalled content. The work is reading under pressure: identifying a claim, separating evidence from assertion, and writing a judgement in the time available.

  • Claims separated from the evidence offered for them, in writing
  • Source provenance used to weigh competing accounts
  • Answers written to the clock, since 75 minutes is the real constraint
  • Marked against the published criteria and returned within two days

Team Project and reflection coaching

For the 35% that depends partly on other people. The collaborative outcome is the team's, but the reflective paper is individual and is marked on the quality of the reflection rather than on how well the team performed. That distinction is the single most useful thing a candidate can be told about this component.

  • Reflection written to the criteria, not as a diary of what happened
  • A record kept of decisions and disagreements as they occur
  • The student's own contribution evidenced rather than asserted
  • A plan for what to write when the team underperforms

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai

01

What Cambridge IGCSE Global Perspectives 0457 is marked on

Cambridge IGCSE Global Perspectives 0457 is assessed through three components, and none of them rewards memorised content. The written examination runs one hour fifteen minutes and carries 30% of the grade, answered from source material supplied in the paper. The Individual Report is a piece of personal research of 1,500 to 2,000 words on a topic from the syllabus list, carrying 35%. The Team Project carries the remaining 35% and combines a collaborative outcome with an individual reflective paper of roughly 700 to 1,000 words.

The capabilities being assessed across those three are consistent: researching a question, analysing information, evaluating sources and arguments, reflecting on your own thinking and on the team's process, collaborating, and communicating clearly. That is why a student can revise diligently and gain nothing. There is no body of knowledge to hold. There is a set of moves to make, and each move is either present in the document or absent from it.

This changes what tutoring in this subject should look like. A session that explains what global perspectives means has achieved nothing; the student has sat through that lesson at school. A session that takes the student's actual research question and demonstrates that it cannot be answered in two thousand words, then helps them narrow it until it can, has moved real marks. The same applies to sources: a session is worth paying for if at least one of the student's own preferred sources comes out of it downgraded, because that is evaluation happening rather than being described.

Lessons are delivered one-to-one over live video with the draft on a shared screen, because that is where this work actually happens. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai or anywhere else in the UAE; in-home tutoring is a service we run only in India. The table below sets the three components side by side, which is how a family should plan the year, since the two internal deadlines arrive long before the written paper does.

The four documents a 0457 file should hold by week six

In a research subject the only honest measure of progress is what exists on paper. Six weeks of 0457 support should leave four documents behind, and each one is readable by a parent who knows nothing about the syllabus.

The first is the research question, in its final form, with the earlier versions kept. That history is the evidence: a question that started as a topic and ended as something answerable in two thousand words shows the single most valuable piece of work in the course having been done. The second is a source-evaluation grid built by the student, listing each source with its origin, its purpose, what it is good evidence of and where it is weak. The test of a real grid is whether anything in it has been downgraded. A grid in which every source is described as reliable and relevant is a list wearing a grid's formatting.

The third is a commented draft. Not a corrected draft, a commented one: the places marked where description has replaced argument, where a perspective has been asserted without a source, and where a paragraph does no work towards the question. The fourth is a reflective paragraph written against the criteria rather than as a diary, which is the component most Dubai candidates underperform on because nobody has ever shown them the difference between reflecting and recounting.

What the four together allow is an early, specific conversation. If by week six the question is still broad, the grid has no downgrades and the draft is description throughout, the plan has not worked and it needs changing rather than extending. That judgement is available in week six only if the documents exist. The table sets out the sequence and who assesses each item, which is worth agreeing at the start rather than assuming.

Component 1: seventy-five minutes with sources you have never seen

The written examination is one hour fifteen minutes and carries 30% of the grade. The source material is supplied in the paper, so there is nothing to revise in the usual sense, and students who prepare for it by reading about global issues are preparing for the wrong thing. What the paper tests is whether a candidate can read unfamiliar material fast and do something analytical with it under time pressure.

Three habits carry most of the marks. The first is separating a claim from the evidence offered for it. A source that states a problem is severe and then offers an anecdote has made a claim with weak support, and saying so precisely is worth more than agreeing or disagreeing with the claim itself. The second is using provenance to weigh competing accounts: who produced this, for whom, and what would they have wanted the reader to conclude. The third is writing a judgement rather than a summary, which is the habit the clock punishes most, because a candidate who summarises each source in turn runs out of time before reaching an argument.

Timing is the practical constraint and it is worth rehearsing explicitly. Seventy-five minutes across the paper leaves little room for a slow start, and the most common pattern in scripts is a thorough, careful treatment of the first part and a thin treatment of the last. Writing to a plan made in the first two minutes is a cheap fix with a reliable effect, and it is only learned by doing timed attempts and having them marked.

Three to five sessions is usually enough for this component, which makes it the cheapest of the three to support. The sessions should contain timed writing rather than discussion, because discussion of global issues is enjoyable, feels productive, and does not move the marks. A session on this paper without a piece of writing produced under the clock has probably not addressed the problem the student has.

04

Component 2: the Individual Report, and the question that decides it

The Individual Report is 1,500 to 2,000 words of the student's own research on a topic from the syllabus list, and it carries 35% of the grade. More of that 35% is decided in the first fortnight than in the final month, because the research question sets a ceiling on everything that follows.

A topic is not a question. The digital world is a topic; whether restricting social-media access for under-sixteens reduces measurable harm is a question. The difference is that the second one can be answered, argued against, and supported with evidence from more than one perspective inside two thousand words. The commonest failure in Dubai reports is a question broad enough to require a book, which forces the student to describe rather than argue, and description sits in the middle band no matter how well written it is.

The criteria then ask for genuinely different perspectives, and this is the second place reports collapse. Three sources that agree with each other are not three perspectives. A perspective is a position held for a reason by someone with a particular vantage point: a household, a government, an industry, a different income context. The useful discipline is to identify who would disagree with the student's own view and find the strongest available statement of that disagreement rather than the weakest. A report that engages the best counter-argument it can find outperforms one that defeats a straw version.

Source evaluation runs through all of it, and it has to be visible in the writing rather than confined to an appendix. Saying that a campaign group's briefing is useful evidence of how the issue is framed by advocates, and weak evidence of its scale, is evaluation. Listing the source in a bibliography is not. The boundary for a tutor here is firm: the report must be the candidate's own work from the first word to the last, and a tutor comments on what the student has written rather than producing material on their behalf. Cambridge's malpractice rules fall on the candidate, which makes any other arrangement a risk transferred onto a teenager.

05

Component 3: the Team Project, and the reflection that is yours alone

The Team Project carries 35% of the grade and is the component families worry about most, because part of it depends on other people's effort. The worry is reasonable and the usual conclusion drawn from it is wrong. The collaborative outcome is shared, but the personal reflective paper of roughly 700 to 1,000 words is individual, and it is marked on the quality of the reflection rather than on how successful the team was.

That is genuinely liberating once a student understands it. A team that disagreed, missed deadlines and produced something mediocre is excellent material for a reflective paper, provided the candidate recorded what happened and can analyse it honestly. A team that worked smoothly gives a student less to reflect on, not more. The practical instruction is therefore to keep a short running record from the first meeting: decisions taken, disagreements, what was tried, what was abandoned and why. Written at the time it takes five minutes a week. Reconstructed at the end it is fiction, and it reads like fiction.

Reflection itself is a specific kind of writing and most candidates have never been taught it. A diary entry says what happened. A reflection says what the student thought at the start, what evidence or experience changed that thinking, what they would do differently and what they now believe about their own approach. The marker is looking for the change and its cause. A reflective paper that lists tasks completed in chronological order is the single most common underperformance in 0457, and it is entirely fixable by showing a student one criteria-led example alongside their own draft.

Collaboration is assessed too, which means a candidate who did everything themselves because the team was unreliable has not demonstrated what the component asks for. The better move, and the one worth coaching, is to document attempts to involve others: what was delegated, what support was offered, how a blockage was handled. That is evidence of collaboration even where the outcome was poor, and it is the honest version of a situation most teams experience at some point.

06

Where 0457 candidates in Dubai actually lose marks

Across the reports and reflective papers we see from Dubai cohorts, the same handful of faults recur, and almost none of them is a knowledge problem. They are structural, and each one is identifiable from a draft weeks before the deadline.

The largest is description standing in for argument. The student explains the issue accurately, cites real sources, writes clearly, and never takes a position the evidence has to support. The second is a question too broad to answer, which causes the first. The third is perspectives that agree: three sources from similar organisations saying similar things, presented as a range of views. The fourth is source evaluation that exists in a separate paragraph rather than in the analysis, so the marker sees a list of judgements with no consequence. The fifth is reflection written as narration. The sixth is a report that reaches 2,000 words through two pages of background before the question is addressed at all.

The repairs are specific and mostly mechanical, which is the encouraging part. A broad question gets narrowed by adding a constraint: a place, a group, a timescale, a measurable outcome. Agreeing perspectives get fixed by naming the strongest opponent of the student's own view and finding their best statement. Description becomes argument by requiring every paragraph to answer, in one sentence, how it helps settle the question. Narration becomes reflection by requiring the words at first I thought and what changed that was, then removing them once the content is right.

None of these repairs requires the student to know more about the topic. They require someone to read the draft against the criteria and name the fault precisely, which is exactly what a session is for. The table below pairs each fault with what the criteria are asking for and the fix that moves it.

Choosing a topic a Dubai student can research with real local evidence

The report asks for a local or national perspective alongside the global one, and a student in Dubai has a stronger position here than they usually realise. The temptation is to treat the local angle as a sentence of decoration at the end. The marks are in treating it as a genuine source of evidence that competes with the global material.

Several topics on the syllabus list have unusually good UAE evidence behind them. Water, food and agriculture connects to desalination, import dependence and controlled-environment farming, all documented in published national material. Education for all connects to a private-school sector that in Dubai served 387,441 students across 227 schools offering 17 curricula in 2024-25, with UK-curriculum schools accounting for 37% of enrolment and the International Baccalaureate 7%, and to a 2026-27 intake adding seven new schools and 16,846 places. Transport systems, urbanisation, trade and aid, employment and changing communities all have equivalent local footing.

Where to look matters as much as what to choose. Federal information sits on u.ae, Ministry of Education material on moe.gov.ae, and Dubai's education sector data on the KHDA site, with the emirate's media office publishing sector announcements. Those are primary or official sources, which is a different category from a news article summarising them, and a report that cites the original rather than the summary demonstrates exactly the source discrimination the criteria reward. A student who has gone to the published document instead of the headline has already done something most candidates will not.

There is one caution worth stating, because it catches careful students. A policy document or a development plan states an intention, not an outcome. Citing a target as though it were a result is a source-evaluation error, and a sharp one, because the correct move is available and easy: say what was targeted, say what has been published about the result, and note the gap or the absence of data. Noticing that an outcome has not been published is itself a finding, and it is a more sophisticated one than most 2,000-word reports contain.

08

Academic honesty, referencing and the use of AI

Global Perspectives is the IGCSE where the honesty question is sharpest, because the assessed work is produced over weeks away from supervision and the subject invites exactly the kind of summarising that a language model does effortlessly. The rules are simple and the consequences fall on the student, so they are worth stating plainly rather than leaving implied.

The Individual Report and the reflective paper must be the candidate's own work entirely. Referencing has to be complete enough that a reader can find every source, and quotations have to be marked as quotations. Material taken from a source and paraphrased is still taken from that source and still needs attributing. Where a school requires a declaration of authenticity, signing it is a statement of fact rather than a formality. Cambridge's regulations treat malpractice as the candidate's problem, which means the person who loses the entry is the sixteen-year-old, not whoever supplied the text.

What a tutor may legitimately do is substantial. A tutor can argue against the research question until it is answerable. A tutor can refuse to accept a source-evaluation grid in which nothing has been downgraded. A tutor can read a draft and mark where description has replaced argument, where a perspective has no source behind it, and where a paragraph does nothing for the question. A tutor can show a criteria-led reflection next to the student's own and let them see the difference. All of that is teaching, and all of it operates on work the student has already produced. What a tutor must never do is produce assessed material for a candidate, in whole or in part, and any service advertising finished reports is selling a risk rather than a grade.

On generative tools the position to take is the school's, and the student should ask rather than assume, because policies differ and are changing. What is clear in every version is that submitted work presented as the candidate's own must be the candidate's own. The practical risk in this subject is subtler than outright substitution: a student who uses a model to summarise sources loses the exact capability being assessed, which is reading a source and judging what it is good evidence of. The grade follows the capability, which is why the honest route is also the one that scores.

Where we tutor

Dubai communities, and the local evidence on each doorstep

The Individual Report needs a local or national perspective alongside the global one, and where a student lives shapes what local evidence is genuinely available to them. These are the communities our 0457 students write from, with the research angle each one opens.

Al Barsha and Dubai Science Park

Dense school and clinic corridor with heavy daytime traffic. A workable local angle for transport systems or education access, where the student can gather observational data rather than quoting a published commentary about somewhere else.

Deira, Al Rigga and the Creek

The historic trading district, with the souks, the abra crossings and the old port. The strongest local evidence base in the city for trade and aid or changing communities, and one that almost no competing candidate's report will use.

Jumeirah and Umm Suqeim

Coastal residential areas where beach management, water quality and tourism pressure are all observable. Suitable for a sustainable living question, provided the report moves past describing initiatives into evaluating published outcomes.

Dubai Marina and Jumeirah Lakes Towers

High-rise living at high density, with district cooling, waste management and vertical-community dynamics all on the doorstep. A good setting for urbanisation or sustainable living questions narrowed to a single building-scale issue.

Mirdif and Al Warqa

Established family suburbs with a wide mix of nationalities and school curricula. Useful for migration or changing communities, where the local perspective can be built from a student's own community rather than from secondary commentary.

Dubai Silicon Oasis and Academic City

Technology and education cluster with concentrated student populations. Natural ground for digital world or education for all questions, and a reminder that a report needs a contrasting perspective from a very different income context.

The Springs, Meadows and Emirates Living

Low-rise villa communities with landscaped planting and high domestic water use. A concrete local angle for water, food and agriculture, where household consumption can be compared with published national figures.

Dubai South and Expo City

Planned development around aviation and logistics. Strong for transport systems, trade and aid, or employment questions, with the usual caution that a planning document states an intention rather than an outcome.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai

Schools offering 0457 across Al Barsha, Tecom and the Marina

Large British-curriculum cohorts where Global Perspectives is usually timetabled as a taught option with a class Team Project. Students from these schools generally need targeted help with the research question and the reflective paper rather than with the course as a whole.

  • Kings' School Al Barsha
  • GEMS Wellington International School
  • Dubai British School Jumeirah Park
  • Regent International School

Schools serving Mirdif, Al Qusais and Al Warqa

Mixed-curriculum cohorts carrying the mandatory UAE subjects alongside a full IGCSE programme. Where curriculum time for 0457 is compressed, the Team Project and the reflection are the parts most often rushed, and that is visible in the marks.

  • Uptown International School
  • GEMS Modern Academy
  • Star International School Mirdif
  • Deira International School

Schools serving Dubai Hills, Dubailand and Academic City

Newer secondary cohorts where 0457 is often recently introduced. Young departments hold fewer exemplar reports, so students have rarely seen what a top-band Individual Report reads like, which is the fastest gap for an external teacher to close.

  • Dubai Heights Academy
  • GEMS FirstPoint School
  • The Aquila School
  • Dubai English Speaking College

Schools are named only as context for the Cambridge IGCSE market in Dubai; IB Gram has no affiliation with, partnership with or endorsement from any school, school group or examination board listed here.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the question and whatever exists

The research question in its current form, the school's internal deadline and any draft or source list. Those three show immediately whether the problem is scope, evidence or argument. Without them the free trial lesson is spent discovering what a one-page document would have shown in two minutes.

  2. 02

Stress-test the question in the first session

The teacher argues against it deliberately: can it be answered in 2,000 words, can anyone reasonably disagree, is there evidence from more than one perspective. A question that survives that is worth building on. One that does not gets narrowed in the same hour, which is the highest-value work in the course.

  3. 03

Make the student build the source grid

Each source with its origin, its purpose, what it is good evidence of and where it is weak, written by the student. The teacher comments. The test of a real grid is whether a favourite source has been downgraded, because that is evaluation happening rather than being described in a paragraph.

  4. 04

Comment on drafts, never write them

Drafts come back with the argument gaps named: description standing in for argument, perspectives that agree, evaluation sitting in the wrong paragraph. The student revises their own text. Assessed material is never produced for a candidate, because Cambridge's malpractice rules fall on the student.

  5. 05

Treat reflection as a separate skill

The reflective paper is individual and is marked on the quality of the reflection, not on how well the team performed. We show a criteria-led example beside the student's own draft, because almost no candidate has been taught the difference between reflecting on their thinking and narrating what happened.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Four documents, not a progress message

A tested research question with its earlier versions, a student-built source grid with real downgrades, a commented draft with the argument gaps named, and a criteria-led reflection. In a research subject those four are the only honest measure of whether the term worked.

The question is treated as the main event

More of the Individual Report's 35% is decided in the first fortnight than in the final month, because a question too broad to answer forces description and description sits mid-band however well written. Narrowing it is the cheapest high-value work available in this course.

Evaluation has to cost the student something

A grid in which every source is reliable and relevant is a list. The session is working when one of the student's own preferred sources comes out downgraded, because that is the capability the criteria are actually testing rather than the formatting.

Reflection taught as a distinct kind of writing

The commonest underperformance in 0457 is a reflective paper that narrates. It is also among the easiest to fix, because a single criteria-led example placed beside a student's own draft usually makes the difference visible in one session.

Local evidence used properly, not decoratively

A Dubai candidate has strong national and emirate-level sources available for water, transport, education, trade and migration questions. The marks come from citing the published document rather than a news summary of it, and from noticing when an outcome has never been published.

A firm, stated boundary on assessed work

A tutor argues with a question, refuses a lazy source grid and marks where argument is missing. A tutor does not produce assessed material for a candidate. Any provider offering a finished report is offering a malpractice risk that lands on the student, not on them.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

What is Cambridge IGCSE Global Perspectives 0457 assessed on?+

Three components, none of which examines memorised content. A written examination of one hour fifteen minutes answered from supplied source material, worth 30% of the grade. An Individual Report of 1,500 to 2,000 words on a topic from the syllabus list, worth 35%. And a Team Project worth the remaining 35%, combining a collaborative outcome with an individual reflective paper of roughly 700 to 1,000 words. Across all three the assessed capabilities are research, analysis, evaluation of sources and arguments, reflection, collaboration and communication.

How long is the 0457 Individual Report allowed to be?+

Between 1,500 and 2,000 words, and the upper figure is a limit rather than a target. A report that reaches 2,000 words by spending two pages on background before the question is addressed scores below a tighter one where every paragraph works towards the argument. The word range is in fact the strongest argument for narrowing the research question early: a question that needs five thousand words to answer will produce description inside two thousand, and description sits in the middle band however well it is written.

What makes a good 0457 research question?+

Three properties. It can be answered in 1,500 to 2,000 words, which usually means it carries a constraint: a place, a group, a timescale or a measurable outcome. Someone reasonable could disagree with the answer, which is what makes argument possible. And evidence exists from more than one genuine perspective. The digital world is a topic; whether restricting social-media access for under-sixteens reduces measurable harm is a question. The quickest test is to have someone argue against it for ten minutes and see whether it survives.

Why does my child's 0457 report score poorly when the research looks thorough?+

Almost always because the report describes rather than argues. The student has read widely, cited real sources and written clearly, and never taken a position that the evidence is marshalled to support. The criteria reward an argument, with perspectives that genuinely differ and source evaluation used inside the analysis rather than parked in its own paragraph. The repair is mechanical: require every paragraph to answer, in one sentence, how it helps settle the question. Paragraphs that cannot answer that are usually background and can be cut.

How is the Team Project marked if the team underperforms?+

The collaborative outcome is shared, but the personal reflective paper is individual and is marked on the quality of the reflection rather than on the team's success. A team that disagreed, missed deadlines and produced something mediocre gives a candidate excellent reflective material, provided they recorded what happened at the time. Collaboration is also assessed, so a student who did everything alone has not shown what the component asks for. Documenting what was delegated, what support was offered and how blockages were handled is the honest route.

What belongs in the 0457 personal reflective paper?+

The change in the student's own thinking and what caused it. A diary entry says what happened in chronological order, which is the commonest underperformance in the whole course. A reflection says what the candidate believed at the outset, which evidence or experience shifted it, what they would do differently and what they now understand about their own approach. The marker is looking for the shift and its cause. Showing a student one criteria-led example beside their own draft usually makes the difference visible within a single session.

Can a tutor read a 0457 report draft before it is submitted?+

Yes, and commenting on drafts is the most valuable use of the time. A tutor can mark where description has replaced argument, where a perspective has no source behind it, where evaluation sits in the wrong place and where a paragraph does nothing for the question. The student then revises their own text. What a tutor must not do is produce assessed material on the candidate's behalf, in whole or in part. The report has to be the student's own work throughout, because Cambridge's malpractice rules fall on the candidate.

Can my child sit 0457 as a private candidate at a Dubai exam centre?+

Ask the centre before assuming it. The written paper is straightforward for an external entry, but the Individual Report and the Team Project are produced over weeks and submitted through a centre, which means the centre has to be willing to supervise and moderate them. Not every Dubai centre that accepts private candidates will take on a course with components like these, and the ones that do set their own deadlines and fees. Establish that first, because the internal deadlines arrive long before the examination does.

Which 0457 global topics suit a student living in Dubai?+

The ones with strong local evidence behind them: water, food and agriculture; transport systems; urbanisation; trade and aid; education for all; employment; and changing communities. Dubai's published sector data is unusually good, including a private school market of 387,441 students across 227 schools offering 17 curricula in 2024-25. The caution is the opposite of the obvious one: a local angle is evidence, not decoration, and a report that cites the original published document rather than a news summary of it demonstrates exactly the source discrimination the criteria reward.

How is the 0457 written paper different from a history source paper?+

Both supply the sources, but they ask for different things. A history source paper asks what each source is useful for given its provenance, and builds towards a judgement on a historical statement. The 0457 paper asks a candidate to separate claims from the evidence offered for them, weigh competing positions on a contemporary issue, and reach a reasoned judgement in seventy-five minutes. There is no period content to know. What the clock punishes is summarising each source in turn, which leaves no time for the argument that carries the marks.

Can a tutor help if the school has given almost no 0457 feedback?+

Yes, and it is a common situation rather than a sign of a weak department. Global Perspectives often receives less curriculum time than examined content subjects, and a teacher running a class Team Project alongside twenty-five individual reports cannot comment on every draft. An external reader working against the published criteria fills exactly that gap. What should happen first is a written diagnosis of the question, the source grid and one draft, so you can see what the school's feedback would have said if there had been time to give it.

Is Global Perspectives 0457 a soft option for a Dubai student?+

It is a different kind of demand rather than a lighter one. There is no content to revise, which sounds easier and means nothing can be crammed. The marks rest on narrowing a question, finding perspectives that genuinely differ, judging sources honestly and reflecting on your own thinking, and a capable student who has never been taught those moves can produce accurate, fluent work that sits in the middle band. Students heading for the IB Diploma find it the most useful IGCSE they take, because the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge ask the same things again.

When in the Dubai school year should 0457 report work begin?+

Earlier than families expect, because the internal deadline usually falls before the mocks for other subjects rather than after them. Ask the school in September which date binds. Once you have it, count backwards: a fortnight for the question, a fortnight for the sources, then drafting and revision. Work spaced across eight weeks produces a far better report than the same hours compressed into the fortnight before submission, because narrowing a question and downgrading a source both need time to sit between sessions.

What evidence will I see that 0457 tutoring is working?+

Four documents inside six weeks. The research question with its earlier versions kept, so you can see it being narrowed. A source-evaluation grid written by your child in which at least one preferred source has been downgraded. A commented draft with the argument gaps named rather than corrected. And a reflective paragraph written to the criteria rather than as a diary. If by week six the question is still broad and the draft is description throughout, the plan has not worked and should change rather than continue.

Is using AI to draft a 0457 report allowed?+

Ask your child's school, because policies differ and are being revised, and the school's rule is the one that applies. What does not vary is that work submitted as the candidate's own must be the candidate's own, with every source attributed and quotations marked as quotations. The subtler risk in this subject is that using a model to summarise sources removes the exact capability being assessed, which is reading a source and judging what it is good evidence of. The grade follows the capability, so the honest route is also the one that scores.

Send the question, and let someone argue with it

The most useful hour a Cambridge IGCSE Global Perspectives 0457 tutor in Dubai can spend is the first one, arguing against your child's research question until it is narrow enough to answer in two thousand words. Send the question in its current form, the school's internal deadline and any draft or source list that exists, and take the free trial lesson. You will receive a written note setting out whether the problem is scope, evidence or argument, and what the next document should be. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, with the draft on a shared screen, and there is no obligation after the first hour.
