IB & IGCSE in Dubai

0457 is a skills qualification, and that is why it goes wrong quietly

Global Perspectives is the one IGCSE on your child's timetable with no body of content to revise. There is no list of dates, no set text, no equations. What Cambridge assesses in syllabus 0457 is a set of transferable skills: framing a research question, finding evidence, judging whether a source can be trusted, holding several perspectives in view at once, working inside a team, and reflecting honestly on your own part in it. A student who is strong in English and History can still drift towards a grade 5 here, because none of the habits that earn marks in those subjects earn marks in this one.

The drift is quiet because the warning signs do not look like trouble. Your child has a topic. They have pages of notes. They have a draft. What they do not have, usually, is a question narrow enough to answer in 1,500 to 2,000 words, or sources that disagree with each other, or any sentence in the report that weighs one perspective against another rather than setting them side by side. Dubai teachers running 0457 across a class of twenty-four cannot sit with each student for the two hours that fixing a research question takes. That gap is the whole reason parents search for a Cambridge IGCSE Global Perspectives 0457 home tutor in Dubai in the first place.

The second thing that fails is the Team Project. It fails for social reasons, not academic ones. Four students agree on a topic in October, one changes school in January, two are in different mock timetables in February, and the outcome arrives half-built. The individual reflective writing attached to it is then produced in a rush, and it narrates what the group did instead of examining what the student themselves contributed, learned and would change. That is a mark-losing habit a tutor can correct in two sessions, and it is almost always still correctable late, because the reflection is written after the project rather than during it.

On delivery, we are blunt, because a search for a home tutor in Dubai deserves a straight answer. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE. Home visits are a service we run only in India. Everything we do for a Dubai family is one-to-one online over live video, with a shared screen on the draft, the source booklet or the mark criteria. For 0457 specifically that is not a compromise. The subject is read, written, researched and discussed; there is no practical to set up and no apparatus to pass across a table. A screen-shared document with two people editing the same paragraph is a better teaching surface than two people leaning over one laptop.

It also widens the pool enormously. Global Perspectives is taught by a small number of teachers in each Dubai school, often by whoever has the timetable space, and the number of adults in this city who have taken a cohort through all three 0457 components is small. Hiring by postcode means hiring whoever is free within a twenty-minute drive of your villa. Hiring online means hiring for the component your child is actually stuck on. That trade is the single strongest argument for online delivery in this subject, and it costs nothing in teaching quality.

At a glance

  • Component 1 is a written paper on unseen sources, not a content exam you can revise facts for
  • Component 2 is an Individual Report of 1,500 to 2,000 words submitted to Cambridge
  • Component 3 is a Team Project with a collaborative outcome and the student's own reflective writing
  • The commonest grade-capping error is describing perspectives instead of evaluating them
  • Word-limit breaches and missing references cost marks that have nothing to do with ability
  • All IB Gram sessions for Dubai families are delivered online, one-to-one, over live video
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Dubai families reach 0457 from three different directions, and the gap to close is different in each case. These are the routes we see most, with what the transition into Global Perspectives actually demands.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge Upper Secondary (IGCSE)

The two-year course most British-curriculum schools in Dubai run before A Level or the IB Diploma. Global Perspectives 0457 sits in the Humanities and Social Sciences group and is commonly taken as a ninth or tenth subject. It is a single-tier syllabus, graded A* to G, with no Core and Extended split, so every candidate sits the same written paper and submits the same two pieces of coursework-style work to Cambridge.

Across Dubai, UK-curriculum schools account for the largest share of private enrolment, and almost all of them certificate at 16 through Cambridge or Pearson. KHDA inspects these schools annually on a six-band scale from Outstanding to Very Weak, and inspection reports comment on how well a school develops research and critical-thinking skills. 0457 is often the subject that evidence sits on, which is why some Dubai schools make it compulsory.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP 1-5

IB Middle Years Programme

The programme Dubai's IB-continuum schools run instead of IGCSE. MYP students who move into a Cambridge school at Year 10 arrive with strong inquiry habits and a real advantage in 0457, because MYP Individuals and Societies already asks for multiple perspectives. What they usually lack is the discipline of a Cambridge word limit and a formal reference list, both of which carry marks.

Several Dubai schools let MYP students certificate externally in one or two Cambridge subjects, and Global Perspectives is a popular choice because the skills overlap. If your child is moving from an MYP school in Nad Al Sheba or Al Barsha into a Cambridge cohort mid-course, the first job is mapping which 0457 assessment objectives their MYP work already evidences and which are genuinely new.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IB Diploma Programme

The destination for a large share of Dubai's IGCSE cohort. A student who has done 0457 properly walks into Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay with the two hardest habits already built: framing a researchable question and evaluating a source rather than quoting it. That transfer is worth saying out loud to a Year 11 student who thinks Global Perspectives is the subject they can afford to coast in.

International Baccalaureate students make up a small but growing share of Dubai private-school enrolment, and the emirate's 2026-27 intake adds three new IB schools among seven openings. For a Dubai family choosing between A Level and the Diploma at 16, 0457 performance is a fair predictor of how a student will handle the Diploma's independent components.

ASAges 16-17 · Year 12

Cambridge AS Level Global Perspectives and Research

The direct continuation of 0457 for students staying with Cambridge. It takes the same skills and raises the load: a longer research report, a written exam with harder source material, and a presentation. Students who finished 0457 without ever learning to write an evaluative paragraph find this step brutal, which is one practical reason to fix the habit at IGCSE rather than later.

A number of Dubai sixth forms offer this alongside conventional A Levels, and admissions tutors treat it as evidence of independent research capability. It is not a required subject for any UAE university route we can verify, so treat it as a skills choice rather than a tick-box, and check the current entry requirements with the university directly.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

0457 is rarely the only subject in the conversation. These are the Cambridge IGCSE subjects Dubai students most often sit alongside Global Perspectives, with what each one actually assesses and where marks go missing.

Global Perspectives (0457)

Single tier, A* to G

A written paper on unseen sources, an Individual Report of 1,500 to 2,000 words, and a Team Project with individual reflective writing. Marks are lost on research questions that cannot be answered, on perspectives that are listed rather than weighed, and on reflection that describes the project instead of the student's own contribution.

History (0470)

Core and Extended routes

Source-based questions plus essay questions on a depth study. Dubai students often take it with 0457 and confuse the two skill sets: History rewards inference from a source in context, while 0457 rewards judging whether the source should be believed at all. Keeping those two habits separate is worth real marks in both.

Geography (0460)

Core and Extended

Physical and human geography with a compulsory skills paper and a fieldwork-style alternative paper. Shares subject matter with 0457 topics such as water, migration and sustainable living, so a student taking both can reuse case-study knowledge, though never the same written work.

English as a First Language (0500)

Core and Extended

Reading response and directed writing. The paraphrasing and summary skills assessed here are exactly what rescue an over-long 0457 Individual Report, which is why we often run the two together for a student who writes 2,500 words when the limit is 2,000.

English as a Second Language (0510 / 0511)

Core and Extended

Reading, writing, listening and speaking for students working in English as an additional language. Many Dubai 0457 candidates sit this rather than First Language, and their reports lose marks on register and connectives rather than on thinking, which is a fixable and fast win.

Economics (0455)

Single tier

Multiple choice and structured questions on markets, the macroeconomy and development. Pairs naturally with 0457 topics such as trade and aid or poverty and inequality, and teaches the data-handling habits the written paper rewards.

Business Studies (0450)

Single tier

Short-answer and case-study questions across marketing, finance, operations and people. Students bring the evaluation structure from Business into 0457 well, but tend to import its formulaic conclusion paragraph, which reads thin against the 0457 criteria.

Sociology (0495)

Single tier

Research methods plus topic sections including family, education, and crime and deviance. The research-methods half is close to 0457's evaluation of evidence, and students who study both usually make the strongest reliability judgements in the written paper.

Environmental Management (0680)

Single tier

Two written papers on resources, water, ecosystems, hazards and sustainability, one of which is built on a resource booklet. Overlaps heavily with 0457's sustainable living and water, food and agriculture topics, and the resource-booklet skill transfers straight across.

Mathematics (0580)

Core and Extended

Two written papers with no coursework. Included here because 0457 Individual Reports frequently use statistics badly, and a student who can read a percentage change and spot a misleading axis makes far better use of the data they find.

Computer Science (0478)

Single tier

Theory and algorithmic problem-solving across two papers. Shares 0457's digital world territory, and students taking both tend to write the sharpest reports on data privacy and artificial intelligence because they understand the mechanism, not just the headline.

Arabic as a Foreign Language (0544)

Single tier

Reading, writing, listening and speaking for non-native learners. Sits alongside the Arabic that KHDA requires in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed curriculum, and a student who can read a local source in Arabic has access to perspectives their classmates cannot cite.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways families run 0457 support with us. All of them are delivered online over live video; the difference is cadence and what each session is for.

Weekly one-to-one through the course

One hour a week with the same tutor from the start of Year 10 or early Year 11, running alongside school teaching. This is the cadence that prevents the Individual Report crisis rather than resolving it, because the research question gets tested in October instead of February.

  • Same tutor each week, so the thread of the argument is not re-explained
  • Source analysis practised on a new pair of sources every fortnight
  • Research question narrowed and re-narrowed before any drafting starts
  • Reference list built as the student reads, not reconstructed at the end

Component-focused block

Four to eight sessions aimed at one assessed component. Most commonly the Individual Report, where the block runs question, source set, structure, draft, feedback, revision. Occasionally the Team Project reflection, which is shorter work and usually takes two sessions.

  • A stated finish point, not an open-ended monthly commitment
  • Written feedback on the student's own draft between sessions
  • Criteria shown to the student in Cambridge's own language
  • A clear handover note at the end for the school's subject teacher

Written-paper intensive before the series

A short run of sessions in the six to eight weeks before the exam, built entirely around Component 1. The student works through unseen source booklets under time, and the session is spent on the marking rather than the reading, which is where the improvement actually comes from.

  • Timed source analysis, then a line-by-line review of what scored
  • Command-term drills so the student answers the question asked
  • A running list of the student's own repeated errors
  • Scheduling that works around mock timetables and Ramadan hours

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai

01

What a parent searching for a 0457 home tutor in Dubai is really asking

A Cambridge IGCSE Global Perspectives 0457 home tutor in Dubai is almost never wanted for general study support. The search follows a specific event: a teacher's comment that the research question will not work, a Team Project that has collapsed, or a mock written paper that came back several grades below the student's other subjects. What the family wants is someone who knows the three components and can fix the one that is broken. IB Gram delivers that one-to-one online, over live video, in Gulf Standard Time.

The in-home version of this exists in Dubai and it is worth understanding before you choose. Independent tutors advertise villa visits across the city, and for a Year 7 student who needs an adult sitting beside them, proximity has real value. For 0457 it has much less. The subject is a shared document, a source booklet and a conversation about whether an argument holds. A tutor and a student editing the same paragraph on a screen they can both see and both type into is a more precise teaching surface than two people sharing one laptop at a kitchen table.

The cost of proximity in this city is the pool it leaves you with. Global Perspectives is taught by one or two teachers in most Dubai schools, and the number of adults in the emirate who have taken a cohort through Component 1, Component 2 and Component 3 is genuinely small. Hiring within a twenty-minute drive of Arabian Ranches or Mirdif means hiring whoever that radius contains, which in practice is a humanities generalist who has read the syllabus rather than taught it. Hiring online means hiring for the component in trouble.

So the honest answer to the search is this. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service we run only in India. What a Dubai family gets instead is a 0457 specialist, a weekly slot that survives a 6pm traffic jam, and written feedback on the actual draft between sessions. The table further down this page sets the two formats against each other on rate, travel and tutor pool so you can judge the trade yourself rather than take our word for it.

02

The three components of 0457 and what each one is worth

Global Perspectives is assessed three ways, and the two that carry the most weight are not sat in an exam hall. That single fact changes how a family should plan the year. Roughly seventy per cent of the grade is submitted work with internal school deadlines months before the exam series, which means a student who treats 0457 as something to revise in April has already lost most of the available marks before revision starts.

Component 1 is the written paper. The student receives source material they have not seen and answers questions that ask them to analyse it, judge how far it can be relied on, and construct a reasoned position. There is nothing to memorise. What improves the mark is the habit of asking who produced a source, for whom, with what interest, and what is missing from it. That habit is trainable in a handful of sessions and it is the single highest-yield thing a tutor does for this component.

Component 2, the Individual Report, is the biggest single block of marks. The student chooses one of the global topics on the current syllabus list, frames a research question, and answers it in 1,500 to 2,000 words using evidence and distinct perspectives. Almost every lost mark here traces back to the question. A question like 'Is climate change bad?' cannot be answered evaluatively; a question like 'How far should the UAE prioritise desalination over demand reduction in managing its water supply?' forces perspectives, evidence and a judgement. Getting that sentence right is two hours of work that protects forty per cent of a grade.

Component 3 is the Team Project: a collaborative outcome plus the student's own reflective writing about their part in it. The reflection is marked on the student's individual thinking, not on how impressive the group's outcome was, and that is the distinction most candidates miss. A reflection that reads as a diary of what the team did will sit in the lower bands however good the project was. One that examines a decision the student made, why it was wrong, and what they would do differently, sits much higher.

03

Where 0457 marks are actually lost, in order of cost

  • Rewrite the research question until it cannot be answered with yes or no
  • Build one comparative paragraph per perspective pair, not one descriptive paragraph each
  • Record the date, author and funder of every source as you read it
  • Check the word count against the current syllabus limit, not against last year's
  • Write the reflection in the first person about your own decisions

After enough Individual Reports, the failure modes repeat. The most expensive is the research question. A question that invites a yes or a no, or that asks whether something is good, gives the student nowhere to go but description. The report then becomes a well-written survey of a topic, which sits in the middle bands no matter how much reading went into it. Rewriting the question in week two is cheap; rewriting it in week ten means rewriting the report.

The second is perspective depth. Candidates learn early that 0457 wants multiple perspectives, and many deliver that literally: a paragraph on what one group thinks, a paragraph on another, a paragraph on a third. Nothing in that structure compares them. The criteria reward reasoning about why perspectives differ, what each is based on, and which holds up better against the evidence. One properly comparative paragraph does more for the mark than three descriptive ones, and it is shorter, which also helps with the limit.

Third is evidence quality. A report built on the first page of search results will cite a campaigning organisation and a news aggregator and treat both as neutral. The written paper tests exactly this skill, so the student is being assessed twice on the same weakness. Teaching a student to ask who funded a claim, when it was published, and whether anyone credible disputes it raises both the report and the paper at once, which makes it the best value hour on the whole syllabus.

Fourth, and infuriating because it has nothing to do with ability: the mechanical rules. A report over the word limit, a missing reference list, quoted material that is not attributed, a reflection written in the plural when it should be in the first person singular. These cost marks that the student has already earned elsewhere. Half an hour spent on the submission checklist in the last fortnight is usually worth more than another hour of content.

04

In-home 0457 support in Dubai versus one-to-one online

Here is the comparison set out plainly, with market rates attributed to the places that publish them. The figures below are what the Dubai market charges, not an IB Gram price list. Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 rate table puts in-home one-to-one at roughly AED 180 to 350 an hour, with independent home tutors advertising up to AED 500. Among online providers, EdFlik lists rates from AED 45 to 65, Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52, and Unitors quotes IGCSE tuition from AED 150. TutorChase publishes AED 270 for specialist support. Those are their published numbers, read in October 2026.

What the table makes visible is that the in-home premium is mostly travel. A tutor crossing Dubai at 4.30pm to reach Arabian Ranches is spending an unpaid hour in the car, and that hour is priced into the rate whether the invoice names it or not. The same money spent online buys either more time with the same calibre of tutor or a more specialist tutor for the same time. For a subject with three distinct assessed components and a small teaching population, the specialist option is usually the better purchase.

The second thing it makes visible is scheduling. An in-home slot has to sit in the window a tutor can physically reach, which in practice means 4pm to 6pm on weekdays. An online slot can sit at 7.30pm after dinner, at 9am on a Saturday when a student can give the Individual Report two clear hours, or after Iftar during Ramadan. For Year 11 students in Dubai with mock timetables and co-curriculars, that flexibility decides whether the sessions actually happen.

None of this makes in-home tutoring a bad choice for every subject or every age. For a Year 6 student who will not sit still without an adult present, it is the right call. For a sixteen-year-old whose problem is that their research question does not work, it is paying a travel premium for a service the subject does not need. We would rather say that clearly than pretend the choice is obvious.

What a tutor may and may not do with an Individual Report

This matters more in 0457 than in almost any other IGCSE, because seventy per cent of the grade is work submitted under the student's own name and authenticated by the school. Cambridge requires that submitted work is the candidate's own. A tutor who crosses that line does not just behave badly; they expose the student to a malpractice finding that can cost the whole qualification. So the boundary needs stating, not hinting at.

A tutor may teach the skills: how to narrow a question, how to search beyond the first page, how to test a source, how to structure an evaluative paragraph, how to reference. A tutor may read a draft the student has written and say where the argument weakens, which paragraph is description masquerading as analysis, and which section is over the limit. A tutor may model the skill on a different topic entirely, which is often the clearest way to teach it. A tutor may show the student Cambridge's criteria and ask them to mark their own work against them.

A tutor may not supply sentences for the report, restructure it on the student's behalf, choose the research question for them, or hand over a plan so detailed that the thinking has been done elsewhere. A tutor may not edit a draft line by line into a finished piece. And no tutor, however experienced, should be producing text that will be submitted as a candidate's own work. We say no to those requests, and we would rather lose the booking than put a sixteen-year-old in front of an academic-honesty panel.

There is a practical version of this boundary that parents find useful. If the student could explain, unprompted, why every paragraph in their report is there and where every citation came from, the support was teaching. If they could not, something has gone wrong regardless of who typed it. That test is also roughly what a school will apply when it authenticates the submission, so it is worth applying it first at home.

06

Command terms and the unseen source booklet

  • Read the questions before the sources, then annotate on a single pass
  • Answer 'identify' in a phrase and save the prose for 'explain' and 'evaluate'
  • Use explicit comparative connectives rather than two separate statements
  • Keep a personal error list from every marked paper and re-check it before the next

Component 1 is the component students most often assume they cannot prepare for, and they are wrong. The sources change; the question types do not. A student who has worked through eight or ten past source booklets under time recognises the shape of what is being asked within the first minute, and spends the paper answering rather than deciding what the answer should look like. That recognition is the whole of exam technique in this subject.

The command terms do real work. 'Identify' wants the thing itself and no explanation; writing a paragraph there spends time that is needed later. 'Explain' wants a causal chain, which means at least two linked steps, not a restated fact. 'Compare' wants explicit connective language between the two things being compared, in the same sentence. 'Evaluate' and 'To what extent' want a judgement with reasons attached, and a mark scheme will not reward a judgement that arrives in the last line with nothing behind it. Students lose marks they have earned by answering the question they expected rather than the one printed.

Timing is the other half. With roughly 75 minutes and a booklet to read, a student who reads everything twice before writing runs out of paper time. The workable pattern is to read the question set first, then read the sources once with the questions in mind, annotating as they go. That order feels wrong to a careful reader and has to be practised until it feels normal, which is three or four timed attempts, not one.

The marking is where the session value sits. A student can produce ten timed papers alone and improve very little, because they cannot see what a marker would not credit. Going through one paper line by line with someone who knows the criteria, and keeping a running list of that student's own repeated errors, is what turns practice into a grade movement. By the fourth paper the list is usually three items long, and those three items are the tutoring plan.

07

The Cambridge calendar for 0457, counted backwards

Every deadline that matters in this subject sits before the exam, and most families discover that too late. Cambridge runs IGCSE in a June series and a November series, and those are the two sittings a candidate entered through a Dubai centre can take. Entries close months ahead of the papers, internal deadlines for submitted work sit earlier still, and the school's exams officer is the person who controls all of it. A parent who asks for the school's internal 0457 submission dates in September has already removed the commonest cause of a lost grade.

Laying out a June series end to end makes the gap concrete. Final entries close in the spring, well before any paper is sat; forecast grades go in after entries and before the exams; the written components run across May and June on the zone timetable; results reach Cambridge Direct in August and certificates follow later in the year. The exact day attached to each of those milestones is on your centre's statement of entry and in the exams officer's calendar, which is where it should be read from rather than from a page like this. Read the sequence backwards and the implication is plain: the Individual Report has to be finished while the student is still sitting mocks, not after them.

One technical point costs candidates their papers every year. Cambridge allocates every exam centre to one of six administrative zones, and states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, adding that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong zone timetable. Dubai parents who download a timetable from a search result rather than from their own school are taking a risk that has nothing to do with how well their child knows the syllabus. Ask the school which zone it sits in, in writing.

For families on Pearson rather than Cambridge, the shape is the same with different dates: International GCSE series run in May and June and in November, with the November 2026 final timetable running to 19 November 2026. June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August and students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Pearson publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series, so check the live PDF rather than a date quoted on a page like this one.

What 0457 counts for after Year 11 in the UAE

Parents reasonably ask whether a subject with no content is worth a place on the timetable. Two answers are useful here, and both are about what happens next rather than about the grade itself. The first is the UAE Ministry of Education equivalency route, which matters for any student intending to study at a UAE university or to have their school certificate attested locally.

For the British track, the published requirement is five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at a grade no lower than E or grade 3, plus either one accredited subject at Advanced Level at grade E or better or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five required subjects. That last detail is worth knowing, because at least one competing tutoring site tells UAE parents they need six IGCSE subjects, which is not what the published rule says. Global Perspectives can sit inside that count of five like any other accredited subject. Verify the current wording on the Ministry's own channels before you rely on it for a university application; we describe the process, we do not perform it.

The second answer is skills transfer, and it is the stronger one. A student who has fought through a 0457 research question and a 2,000-word evidence-based report arrives at Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay or an AS research report already knowing how to do the two hardest things those assessments ask for. Dubai sixth forms see that difference. It is also the reason some schools in the emirate make Global Perspectives compulsory rather than optional, and why a grade 4 in it is a poorer signal about Year 12 readiness than a grade 4 in a content subject.

What 0457 is not is a requirement for anything. No UAE university route we can verify demands it, and tutoring in it is certainly not required for equivalency, admission or progression. Anyone telling a Dubai parent otherwise is manufacturing urgency. Take it because the skills are the ones every later qualification assumes, and support it if the Individual Report has stalled, not because a page on the internet implied a door closes without it.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across Dubai

Dubai is a city of school runs, and where a family lives changes what an evening looks like rather than what the tutoring contains. These notes are about timing and school clusters, not about geography for its own sake.

Al Sufouh and Umm Suqeim

Home to several of the city's oldest British-curriculum secondary schools. A 4pm start is realistic here only if the student walks or is collected immediately; most families settle on 5.30pm or 7pm slots once Friday timings and co-curriculars are accounted for.

Dubai Marina and JLT

High-rise living with little study space and long lift waits at school-run time. Marina students often prefer a 7.30pm session after dinner, and the online format means a sibling can use the same hour in a different room without a second visitor in the flat.

Dubai Hills Estate

A newer cluster with schools inside the community, so travel is short but timetables are packed with sport. Saturday morning sessions are popular here for Individual Report work, when a student has two uninterrupted hours rather than forty minutes.

Arabian Ranches and Mudon

Villa communities where the nearest Cambridge secondary may be a twenty-five minute drive. Families here feel the travel surcharge inside an in-home rate most sharply, which is why the comparison table below matters more in this part of Dubai than in Al Barsha.

Mirdif and Al Warqa

Dense with Indian and British curriculum schools and large sibling groups. A common pattern is one 0457 hour for the Year 11 student straight after Maghrib, with a younger child's session in the same slot the following evening.

Dubai Silicon Oasis and Academic City

Serves families across Nad Al Sheba, Mirdif and Dubai Festival City, with a long commute in both directions. Students here lose the most time to traffic, and recover the most from a format with no travel attached to it.

Jumeirah and Al Safa

Short school runs and established schools, but heavy tutoring demand, which means local in-home slots at 4pm and 5pm are the first to go. Online removes the scramble for the one humanities tutor in the neighbourhood.

Business Bay and Downtown

Apartment families with parents working late. The practical consequence for 0457 is that draft feedback often needs to happen asynchronously between sessions, with the tutor's comments left on the shared document for the student to work through.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai

Al Sufouh, Al Barsha and Umm Suqeim

The city's densest concentration of long-established UK-curriculum secondaries, most certificating at 16 through Cambridge. Students we support in this cluster typically sit 0457 as a ninth subject alongside the three sciences, and come to us in Term 2 of Year 11 when the Individual Report deadline becomes real.

  • Dubai College
  • GEMS Wellington International School
  • Jumeirah College
  • Kings' School Al Barsha
  • Nord Anglia International School Dubai
  • Dubai British School Jumeirah Park

Nad Al Sheba, Mirdif and Dubai Silicon Oasis

A mix of Cambridge, Pearson and IB provision across a wide commute, with several schools running Global Perspectives as a timetabled subject rather than an option. Families here often ask for Saturday sessions because weekday evenings are consumed by the drive home.

  • Repton Dubai
  • GEMS Modern Academy
  • GEMS Wellington Academy Silicon Oasis
  • Uptown International School
  • Dubai Heights Academy

Dubai Hills, Arabian Ranches and Motor City

Newer community schools with young secondary cohorts, which means smaller Year 11 groups and a smaller pool of teachers who have taken a full cohort through all three 0457 components. The scarcity is the reason an online specialist beats a local generalist here.

  • Jumeirah English Speaking School Arabian Ranches
  • Hartland International School
  • GEMS Metropole School
  • Safa British School

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us which component is broken

A short message naming the school, the year group, and whether the problem is the written paper, the Individual Report or the Team Project. That single detail changes which tutor we look for, and it is the difference between a useful match and a generic humanities tutor.

  2. 02

Send the draft or the marked paper

If there is a draft report, a teacher comment or a mock script, share it before the trial. A tutor who has read the actual work arrives at the first session with a diagnosis instead of spending it on introductions, which is worth most of an hour.

  3. 03

    Take the free trial lesson

One session at no cost, before any payment and without card details. Your child works on their own material, and you get a written note afterwards on what the tutor thinks is actually wrong. If the fit is poor, say so and we look again.

  4. 04

Fix the slot to the Dubai week

We set a repeating time that survives the school run, mock timetables and co-curriculars, and move it for Ramadan hours or exam weeks. Most Dubai families land on a weekday evening after 6.30pm or a Saturday morning for longer report work.

  5. 05

Work in marked evidence, not hours

Each block ends with something checkable: a marked timed paper, a revised research question, a referenced draft, a reflection rewritten in the first person. You should be able to see what changed without asking how the sessions are going.

  6. 06

    Hand back to the school

At the end of a component block we write a short handover note the student can show their subject teacher, so school support and tutoring are pulling the same way rather than giving contradictory advice two weeks before a deadline.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

We match for the component, not the postcode

Global Perspectives is taught by one or two teachers in most Dubai schools, so hiring inside a twenty-minute drive narrows you to whoever is nearby. Online matching lets us find someone who has taken students through the specific component that has gone wrong, wherever they happen to live.

Rates on this page are attributed

Every AED figure here names the provider or the published rate table it came from, with the month we read it. We publish the market band rather than a price list, and we would rather you compare us against sourced numbers than against a straw man.

We are explicit about the academic-honesty line

We teach the skills, read the student's own draft and give feedback against Cambridge's criteria. We do not supply text for submitted work. In a search result full of sites selling finished coursework, that boundary is worth stating rather than assuming.

No claimed accreditation we do not hold

IB Gram is an independent tutor-matching platform. We hold no approval, licence or partnership from KHDA, the Ministry of Education, Cambridge or the IB, and we never imply one. We explain what those bodies do and link you to them.

Scheduling built for a Dubai week

Sessions sit where they fit: after 6.30pm when the Sheikh Zayed Road run is done, on a Saturday morning for two hours of report work, or after Iftar during Ramadan. No travel window to work around means the slot is yours rather than a compromise.

You see the evidence between sessions

Written feedback lands on the student's own document, timed papers come back marked with a running error list, and a handover note closes each block. Progress in a skills subject is hard to feel and easy to show, so we show it.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

What does a Cambridge IGCSE Global Perspectives 0457 home tutor actually do in a session?+

Most sessions do one of four things. They test and narrow a research question until it cannot be answered with a yes or a no. They mark a timed Component 1 source paper line by line and build a list of that student's repeated errors. They read a section of the Individual Report and show where description is standing in for evaluation. Or they rebuild a Team Project reflection so it examines the student's own decisions rather than narrating what the group did. The work is diagnostic, not a second set of lessons, and it happens online over live video with the document shared on screen.

Can a 0457 tutor help with the Individual Report without breaking Cambridge's rules?+

Yes, within a clear boundary. A tutor may teach how to frame a question, find and test sources, structure an evaluative paragraph and reference properly, and may read a draft your child has written and say where the argument weakens. A tutor may not supply sentences, choose the question, restructure the report on your child's behalf or edit it into a finished piece. The school authenticates that submitted work is the candidate's own, so the test we apply is simple: your child should be able to explain, unprompted, why every paragraph is there and where every citation came from.

How long is the 0457 Individual Report supposed to be?+

The current syllabus sets the Individual Report at 1,500 to 2,000 words, and the limit is enforced, so a 2,600-word draft is a problem to solve rather than a sign of effort. Over-length reports are usually over-length for a diagnosable reason: three descriptive paragraphs where one comparative paragraph would do, or a long introduction explaining why the topic matters. Cutting those raises the mark as well as the word count. Always confirm the figure against the syllabus on cambridgeinternational.org for your child's exam series, because Cambridge revises specifications on a cycle and last year's limit may not be this year's.

My child's 0457 Team Project group has stopped replying. What happens now?+

This is more common than schools admit, and it is usually recoverable, because the reflective writing attached to the project is marked on your child's individual thinking rather than on how polished the group's outcome was. The first step is a written message to the subject teacher describing what has happened and what your child has contributed, with dates. The second is to build the reflection around a real decision your child made inside the collapse: what they tried, why it did not work, what they would do differently. That is exactly what the criteria reward.

Is Global Perspectives 0457 an easy IGCSE to add as a ninth or tenth subject?+

It is lighter on content and heavier on process, which is not the same as easy. There is nothing to memorise, so a student who revises well gets no advantage, and roughly seventy per cent of the grade is submitted work with school deadlines falling months before the exam. Students who treat it as the subject they can leave until April routinely underperform their other grades in it. Added deliberately, with the Individual Report started early, it is a reasonable ninth or tenth subject and it builds habits every later qualification assumes. Added casually, it becomes the grade that drags an otherwise strong set down.

Does IB Gram send a 0457 tutor to our villa in Dubai?+

No. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service we run only in India. Every session for a Dubai family is one-to-one over live video, in Gulf Standard Time, with the draft, source booklet or mark criteria shared on screen. For this subject that is genuinely the better format rather than a fallback: the work is reading, writing and argument, both people can type into the same document, and you are choosing from tutors who have taught all three components instead of from whoever lives within a twenty-minute drive.

When in the Dubai school year should 0457 report work actually start?+

Term 1 of Year 11 at the latest, and Year 10 if the school sets the topic that early. The reason is sequencing rather than diligence: the research question has to be tested and rejected a few times before one survives, and that cannot be compressed into the fortnight before an internal deadline. Dubai schools typically set their submission dates in Term 2, immediately after the January mock window, so a family working backwards from that date has the autumn to use. Arriving three weeks out means the first hour goes on deciding what can realistically be saved.

What is the difference between a global, national, local and personal perspective in 0457?+

They are different scales of viewpoint, and the report is marked on how well a student distinguishes them. A global perspective is how an issue looks across countries or to international bodies. A national perspective is the position of a particular country, including its government and media. A local perspective is a specific community's experience, which for a Dubai student might be a neighbourhood, a school or an industry in the emirate. A personal perspective is the student's own reasoned view, arrived at from the evidence rather than asserted at the start. Collapsing two of these into one is a common and costly error.

Which 0457 global topic should my child choose for the Individual Report?+

Choose for evidence availability, not for interest. The best topic is one where credible sources genuinely disagree and where your child can reach a local perspective they can verify. A Dubai student writing on water, food and agriculture, on sustainable living or on the digital world has real local material available: desalination and demand management, construction and heat, or data regulation in the Gulf. A topic chosen because it sounds impressive but has only campaigning material behind it produces a report with nothing to evaluate. Check which topics appear on the current syllabus list before committing, as the list is revised periodically.

How is the 0457 written paper different from a History or Geography source question?+

History asks what a source tells you about its context and how far it is useful for a particular enquiry. Geography usually asks you to read data accurately and apply a concept. The 0457 written paper asks something narrower and harder: whether the source should be believed at all, who produced it and with what interest, what it leaves out, and what a reasoned position looks like once you have weighed several of them. Students who import a History structure write well and score in the middle bands. Separating the two habits deliberately is worth marks in both subjects.

Does Global Perspectives 0457 count towards UAE Ministry of Education equivalency?+

Equivalency for the British track is published as five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at a grade no lower than E or grade 3, plus one accredited subject at Advanced Level at grade E or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are not counted among the five. An accredited subject such as Global Perspectives can sit inside that count. Confirm the current wording through the Ministry's own channels or your school's registrar before relying on it, and be wary of any tutoring site quoting a different subject count. IB Gram describes the process; we do not perform or guarantee it.

Can my child sit 0457 as a private candidate in Dubai?+

Private candidate entry depends entirely on whether a Dubai exam centre will accept an external entry for this syllabus, and 0457 is harder than most because two of the three components are submitted work that a centre has to authenticate and upload. Some centres decline it for exactly that reason. The practical route is to contact Cambridge exam centres in the emirate directly, ask specifically about 0457 rather than about IGCSEs in general, and confirm the submitted-work arrangements in writing before paying any entry fee. Your child's current school is the first place to ask.

Can 0457 sessions run in the evening or during Ramadan in Dubai?+

Yes, and most do. With no travel attached to a session, the slot can sit wherever it genuinely works: after 6.30pm when the school run and traffic are done, at 9am on a Saturday when a student can give the Individual Report two uninterrupted hours, or after Iftar during Ramadan when a shorter, later session is more productive than an exhausted afternoon one. We also move the slot during mock weeks rather than pretending a student can absorb a new skill the night before a Maths paper. Tell us the constraints and we schedule around them.

What happens in the first 0457 session with a new tutor?+

The tutor will have read whatever you sent in advance, so the session starts with the work rather than with introductions. Typically your child talks through their research question while the tutor pushes on whether it can be answered, or they work through one marked source question to establish where the technique is breaking. By the end there should be a named problem and a first fix, plus a short written note to you on what the tutor thinks is actually wrong. The trial is free, there are no card details taken up front, and if the fit is poor we look for a different tutor.
