Cambridge IGCSE Geography 0460 Home Tutor in Dubai

Parents searching for a Cambridge IGCSE Geography 0460 home tutor in Dubai are almost always asking one question first: what does this cost. This page answers it in AED, names which part of the syllabus each hour should buy, and states plainly how lessons run. IB Gram teaches 0460 one-to-one over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time. There are no home visits anywhere in the UAE, and the comparison table below shows what that decision does to your bill and to the choice of teacher.

  • Market rates in AED, each one attributed to its published source
  • Paper 1, Paper 2 and the coursework priced separately

IB & IGCSE in Dubai

Price first, because that is what you came for

A Cambridge IGCSE Geography 0460 home tutor in Dubai is quoted at somewhere between AED 45 and AED 650 an hour, and the spread is not noise. It is five different products wearing the same job title. At the bottom sit undergraduates who studied geography and are revising it alongside your child. In the middle sit qualified subject teachers charging AED 150 to AED 300 for an online hour, which is the band Unitors publishes for IGCSE work. Above that sit exam-year specialists at AED 200 to AED 450 and beyond, where TutorChase lists AED 270. At the top, BartyED quotes AED 650 for a named premium tutor. None of those numbers is ours, and none of them should be read as a price list. They are what this market publishes, and a parent who knows the bands cannot be sold the wrong tier.

The single largest lever on that number is not the teacher's degree. It is travel. A visiting tutor who drives from Al Barsha to Dubai Hills for a 4pm session loses an hour to the road, and that hour is inside the quote whether the invoice itemises it or not. Bestimate's Dubai rate table puts in-home one-to-one visits at AED 180 to AED 350 and home-tutor listings reach AED 500, against AED 150 to AED 300 for the same qualification delivered online. The gap is roughly the cost of a car in Dubai traffic between four and six in the evening.

That is why IB Gram does not run home visits in Dubai or anywhere else in the UAE; in-home tutoring is a service we offer only in India. Geography 0460 lessons for Dubai families run one-to-one over live video, with the map extract on a shared screen and the student annotating it while the teacher watches. The practical consequence is that the pool of available teachers is no longer bounded by a twenty-minute drive from your villa. A family in Mudon can work with someone who has taught the hot desert and tropical rainforest case studies to five successive cohorts, rather than whoever happens to live on the same side of Al Qudra Road.

The second lever is which part of 0460 you are buying. The three components are priced very differently in practice, because they cost different amounts of a teacher's time. Paper 1 carries 45% of the grade across three 25-mark theme questions and needs sustained content teaching over months. Paper 2 is a 60-mark skills paper worth 27.5%, and it is the cheapest paper in the syllabus to repair because map skills are procedural: grid references, gradient, cross-sections and photograph interpretation can be drilled to competence in a handful of sessions. Coursework supervision under Paper 3 is the most expensive hour you will buy, because reading a 2,000-word draft properly takes longer than the lesson does.

The third lever is when you buy. Demand in Dubai spikes twice: in the weeks after the Year 11 mock results land, and again once the Cambridge entry deadline has passed and families realise the series is real. Booking in September for a June series costs the same per hour as booking in March, but it buys thirty sessions instead of eight, and the hourly rate stops being the interesting number. The sections below take each of these levers in turn, with the figures and the sources attached.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Geography does not start at IGCSE and it does not stop there. These are the three stages Dubai families ask about around 0460, and what each one costs in teaching time rather than in marketing language.

LOWER-SECAges 11-14 · Years 7-9

Cambridge Lower Secondary Geography, before 0460

The three years that decide whether 0460 feels like a new subject or a continuation. Lower Secondary geography builds map reading, graph construction and the habit of explaining a pattern rather than listing it. A student who arrives in Year 10 able to read a contour map and write a two-step explanation starts 0460 with a working advantage worth several months.

Dubai complicates this because families move schools and curricula mid-stage. A child who did Years 7 and 8 on an American middle-school programme and then joins a Cambridge school in Year 9 has usually never met a 1:25,000 topographical map. That gap is cheap to close at thirteen and expensive to close in the February of Year 11, which is the main argument for buying hours early rather than many.

IGCSE-0460-Y10Ages 14-15 · Year 10

Cambridge IGCSE Geography 0460, first year

Most Dubai schools teach Theme 1 Population and settlement and part of Theme 2 The natural environment in Year 10, and this is where the case-study bank is built. The 7-mark part of every Paper 1 question is marked in levels of response and needs named, located, dated examples. A student who collects those examples as they go spends Year 11 practising answers rather than scrambling for content.

Year 10 is also when the Paper 3 and Paper 4 decision becomes visible. Dubai schools split on this: some enter candidates for the coursework route and build fieldwork into a term, others enter for Paper 4 and teach fieldwork technique in a classroom. Ask the head of geography which route your child's cohort is entered for before you buy any tutoring hours, because the two routes need different work.

IGCSE-0460-Y11Ages 15-16 · Year 11

Cambridge IGCSE Geography 0460, exam year

Theme 3 Economic development, the whole of the skills paper, and the coursework or alternative paper all land in the same year as mocks. The hour rate matters least here and the sequence matters most: skills paper first because it moves fastest, then the weakest theme, then timed full papers. Most families who start in Year 11 buy between twenty and thirty-five sessions.

The Dubai school calendar puts mocks in the winter window and the Cambridge June series in the summer term, with the entry deadline months before either. The Pearson side shows that gap with dates you can check: the Edexcel International GCSE November 2026 timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026, and entries for it closed over the preceding summer. Cambridge behaves the same way for the June and November series a UAE centre actually sits, with final entry falling months before the first paper. Ask the exams officer for the date on your own centre's calendar rather than working from a figure quoted on a page like this one.

AS-A-9696Ages 16-19 · Years 12-13

Cambridge International AS and A Level Geography 9696, after 0460

The step up is in the writing, not the content. AS and A Level geography asks for extended evaluative essays, independent research and statistical treatment of data, and it assumes the physical geography from 0460 is secure. Students who scraped a 0460 grade on memorised case studies find the first AS term difficult in a way that nothing at IGCSE predicted.

Several Dubai schools run 9696 alongside IB Diploma geography, and the choice between them is usually a timetable question rather than an academic one. A 0460 student aiming at geography, environmental science or urban planning at a UAE or UK university benefits from being told, in Year 11, which of the two routes their school actually staffs well.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

0460 is not one subject. It is three themes and a skills paper, each with its own failure mode. These are the syllabus units a Dubai family actually books hours against, with what each one assesses and where the marks go missing.

Population dynamics and migration

0460 Theme 1 · Paper 1

Birth and death rates, the demographic transition model, push and pull factors, and the difference between a refugee and an economic migrant. Marks go on candidates describing a graph when the command word asked them to explain it, and on case studies with no country attached.

Population structure and density

0460 Theme 1 · Paper 1 and Paper 2

Reading and drawing population pyramids, dependency ratios, and explaining why people are distributed as they are. This unit appears on both papers: as a 25-mark theme question and as a graph-completion task on the skills paper, so it repays double attention.

Settlements, service provision and urbanisation

0460 Theme 1 · Paper 1

Settlement hierarchy, sphere of influence, land-use models, and the causes and consequences of rapid urban growth. Dubai students have the best possible local example and over-use it: an answer needs a named contrasting case from a lower-income country as well.

Earthquakes, volcanoes and plate margins

0460 Theme 2 · Paper 1

Plate boundary types, hazard impacts, prediction and management, and why people continue to live in hazardous places. The common loss is explaining a hazard's effects without distinguishing primary from secondary, or management before an event from response after it.

Rivers and coasts

0460 Theme 2 · Paper 1 and Paper 2

Drainage basin processes, erosion and deposition landforms, flooding and coastal management. Landform diagrams are worth marks on their own and most candidates draw them badly: labelled process arrows and a named example recover marks that content revision alone will not.

Weather, climate and natural vegetation

0460 Theme 2 · Paper 1

Instruments and measurement, climate graphs, and the tropical rainforest and hot desert ecosystems. The hot desert is on the doorstep, which helps with adaptation and soil, and hurts when candidates describe Dubai's irrigated landscaping as natural vegetation.

Development and inequality

0460 Theme 3 · Paper 1

Indicators of development, the limitations of GNI per head, the informal sector, and inequality within countries. Examiners reward candidates who can say why a single indicator misleads; they do not reward lists of indicators with no evaluation attached.

Food production, industry and tourism

0460 Theme 3 · Paper 1

Farming systems and food shortages, industrial systems and location factors, and the growth and management of tourism. Each needs one developed case study, located and dated. Three vague examples score less than one that names a place and a figure.

Energy, water and environmental risk

0460 Theme 3 · Paper 1

Energy supply and demand, water sources and shortages, and the environmental risks of economic development. Desalination and water security are directly relevant to the UAE, which makes this one of the few units where a Dubai student has genuinely better evidence than a candidate in Surrey.

Geographical skills

0460 Paper 2 · 60 marks

Topographical map interpretation at 1:25,000, grid references, distance and bearing, gradient and cross-sections, photograph and sketch interpretation, and graph and table work. Entirely procedural, entirely teachable, and the fastest component in the syllabus to move upwards.

Fieldwork and the coursework route

0460 Paper 3 · 2,000 words

A single piece of fieldwork written up to a 2,000-word limit and marked out of 60. The assignment must be the student's own work throughout; a tutor's role is to question the hypothesis, probe the method and give feedback on what the student has already produced.

Alternative to coursework technique

0460 Paper 4 · 1 hour 30 minutes

A written paper that tests fieldwork understanding without fieldwork: hypothesis design, sampling, data-collection methods, presentation choices and evaluation of reliability. Candidates who have never collected data in the field struggle most with the evaluation questions at the end.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways Dubai families buy 0460 support, with what each costs in hours rather than in adjectives. All three run over live video; none involves a visit to a UAE address.

Weekly one-to-one, bought by the term

One sixty-minute session a week from September, running to the series. The cheapest route per mark because it spreads the content teaching across the year and leaves Year 11 free for timed practice. Bestimate's monthly estimate for weekly one-hour sessions in the mid band is AED 600 to AED 1,200 in this market.

  • Content taught in syllabus order, one theme at a time
  • A marked past-paper question every fortnight
  • Case-study bank built as you go, not crammed
  • Session notes after each lesson so you can see what was covered

Skills-paper block

Six to eight sessions aimed squarely at Paper 2. Map extract on a shared screen, student annotating live, grid references and cross-sections drilled to automatic. It is the highest-yield block in the syllabus because the paper is procedural and worth 27.5% of the grade, and because almost nobody practises it at home.

  • 1:25,000 map interpretation and grid references
  • Distance, bearing, gradient and cross-section construction
  • Photograph, sketch and satellite-image interpretation
  • Graph and table completion under exam timing

Pre-series intensive

A short, dense block in the final weeks: full papers under timing, marked against the published criteria, with the feedback loop closed inside forty-eight hours. The most expensive way to buy 0460 per hour and sometimes the only option available. Families arriving at this point should expect to pay the exam-year band rather than the standard one.

  • Full Paper 1 and Paper 2 attempts under exam conditions
  • Marking against the official criteria, with a written breakdown
  • Targeted repair of the two weakest themes only
  • Exam-day timing and question-order strategy

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai

What a Geography 0460 home tutor costs in Dubai, and how the lesson actually happens

  • Qualified subject tutor, online: AED 150-300 an hour (Unitors publishes IGCSE from AED 150)
  • In-home one-to-one visit in Dubai: AED 180-500, travel inside the hour
  • Exam-year IGCSE specialist: AED 200-450 and above (TutorChase lists AED 270)
  • Premium named tutor: AED 500-650 and above (BartyED quotes AED 650)

A Cambridge IGCSE Geography 0460 home tutor in Dubai is advertised across a band running from roughly AED 45 to AED 650 an hour as of October 2026. The useful figure for most families is the middle: AED 150 to AED 300 for an hour with a qualified subject teacher online, and AED 180 to AED 500 for the same hour delivered as a visit, with travel folded into the price. Every number in the table below belongs to the provider named beside it. None of them is IB Gram's price list.

IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai or anywhere else in the UAE; in-home tutoring is a service we run only in India. Geography 0460 for Dubai families is taught one-to-one over live video, with a shared screen carrying the map extract, the climate graph or the student's own draft. The student writes, the teacher watches them write, and the annotation happens in front of both of them. For a subject built on maps and diagrams this is closer to sitting beside someone than a telephone call is.

The reason to say this on a page that targets the phrase parents type is that the honest comparison favours the online route anyway, and it favours it for a reason that is not price. A visiting tutor must live within a feasible drive of your community. That constraint quietly selects for availability rather than expertise. Geography is an option subject with small cohorts, so the number of people in Dubai who have taught 0460 to a full cohort and are free at 4.30pm on a Tuesday within twenty minutes of Mudon is small. Removing the drive removes the constraint, and what you select for instead is whether the teacher knows how a 7-mark levels-of-response answer is built.

Read the table as a map of the market rather than a quote. It is here so that when someone quotes you AED 400 an hour for a Dubai home visit, you know which tier that belongs to and what question to ask next.

Six things that move a 0460 quote in this emirate

Two Dubai families can be quoted AED 180 and AED 420 for the same subject in the same week without either tutor being dishonest. The variables are predictable, and knowing them is the difference between negotiating and guessing.

The first is the tier of teacher, which the table above already covers. The second is which component you are buying. A Paper 2 skills block is cheap per mark gained because the content is procedural. Coursework supervision under Paper 3 is the most expensive hour in the syllabus, because reading a 2,000-word draft, checking the data presentation and writing usable feedback takes longer than the session it feeds. Any tutor quoting the same rate for both is either underpricing the coursework or overpricing the skills work.

The third is how close you are to the series. The fourth is session length: a ninety-minute slot often costs less per minute than sixty, because the teacher's preparation and admin are fixed. The fifth is siblings. Two children in the same household studying 0460 in the same year can share a slot, which halves the cost per child, but only if they are genuinely at a similar point in the syllabus; a Year 10 and a Year 11 sharing a session wastes both hours. The sixth is continuity. Buying a block of ten and keeping the same teacher costs less in real terms than buying ten single hours from whoever is free, because nobody is paid to re-diagnose the same student three times.

Underneath all six sits one number nobody quotes: hours to the exam. A family starting in September has thirty sessions available at any rate they choose. A family starting in April has eight, and at that point the hourly rate is close to irrelevant compared with how precisely those eight hours are aimed.

03

Travel time is the line item nobody itemises

Dubai's geography is the reason in-home tutoring costs what it does here. The city is long, the school run and the evening commute overlap between four and six, and a 0460 session at 4.30pm sits precisely in the worst window. A tutor who accepts a one-hour booking across the city is committing closer to two and a half hours of their working day, and no sustainable business absorbs that for free.

The arithmetic is simple enough to do yourself. Take the in-home quote, work out the round-trip drive at the hour your child would actually be taught, and ask what the effective teaching rate is. A tutor charging AED 350 for a one-hour visit with a ninety-minute round trip is charging AED 140 per hour of their time, which is below the market rate for an online specialist. That is why the better in-home tutors in Dubai either charge near AED 500 or decline to cross the city at all, and why the cheaper ones tend to be the ones who live nearby rather than the ones who know the syllabus.

There is one honest advantage to a visit that online delivery does not replicate: a tutor in the room can confiscate the phone. For a thirteen-year-old with no study habits that matters. For a Year 11 candidate working on levels-of-response answers and map interpretation, a shared screen with both parties annotating the same extract is a closer substitute than most parents expect, and the saved hour goes back into the week.

The table below is not a traffic report. It is the cost structure that used to sit behind every quote a Dubai family received, written out so you can see what you are no longer paying for.

Paper 1 carries 45%, so it carries most of the budget

Paper 1 is one hour forty-five minutes, 75 marks and 45% of the Cambridge IGCSE Geography 0460 grade. Candidates answer three questions, one from each of the three themes: Population and settlement, The natural environment, and Economic development. Each question is worth 25 marks and is built the same way, which is the single most useful structural fact a 0460 student can know.

The early parts of each question are resource-based and short. They hand the candidate a map, a graph or a photograph and ask them to identify, describe or give reasons. These marks are available to anyone who reads the resource carefully and uses the command word they were given. The later parts move away from the resource and into content, and the final part of each question is a levels-of-response answer worth seven marks that requires a named, located case study. That 7-mark part, three times over, is 21 of the 75 marks on the paper.

Where the money goes in Paper 1 teaching is the case-study bank. A student who has nine developed examples, one for each major unit, with a place name, a date and two or three figures attached, is in a different position from a student who has read three textbook chapters. Building that bank takes months of small increments, which is why a September start is worth more than an identical number of hours bought in April. The second cost centre is command words: describe, explain, suggest and give reasons ask for different things, and a candidate who explains when asked to describe has wasted a correct answer.

The practical teaching sequence that works for Dubai students is to diagnose which of the three themes is weakest from the mock script, repair that theme to a working case-study standard, then run timed 25-mark questions on all three in rotation. It is unglamorous and it is where the 45% actually moves.

05

Paper 2 is the cheapest 27.5% in the syllabus

Paper 2 is one hour thirty minutes, 60 marks and 27.5% of the grade, and every question is compulsory. It tests geographical skills: interpreting a 1:25,000 topographical map, four and six-figure grid references, measuring distance and bearing, calculating gradient, constructing and reading a cross-section, interpreting photographs and sketches, and completing graphs and tables.

That list is entirely procedural, and procedural skills respond to drilling in a way that case-study knowledge does not. A student who cannot read a six-figure grid reference on Monday can read one reliably by Friday. A student who has never drawn a cross-section can learn the method in a single session and then needs three or four repetitions to make it automatic. Measured in marks gained per AED spent, Paper 2 is the best-value component in 0460 and it is consistently the least practised, because it does not look like revision and there is no chapter to read.

The failure pattern is identifiable from a mock script in about five minutes. Candidates lose marks for giving grid references in the wrong order, for measuring distance along a straight line when the question asked for a road, for reading contour values from the wrong interval, and for describing a photograph instead of interpreting it. None of those is a knowledge gap. All of them are habits, and habits are what one-to-one teaching with a shared screen is best at correcting, because the teacher sees the error being made rather than reading the result.

For a family on a tight budget with a weak overall Geography grade, a block of six to eight sessions aimed only at Paper 2 is usually the most defensible purchase available. It will not fix a candidate who knows no content, but it reliably recovers marks that were being thrown away for no good reason.

06

Paper 3 coursework or Paper 4 alternative: the choice that changes your bill

The last 27.5% of 0460 comes one of two ways, and your child's school has already chosen which. Paper 3 is coursework: one piece of fieldwork written up to a limit of 2,000 words and marked out of 60. Paper 4 is the Alternative to Coursework, a one-hour-thirty-minute written paper also worth 60 marks, which tests fieldwork understanding without requiring fieldwork. Find out which route the cohort is entered for before you buy a single hour, because support for the two looks nothing alike.

If your child is on the coursework route, the expensive part is reading. A tutor supporting a 2,000-word fieldwork report spends more time outside the session than inside it: checking whether the hypothesis is testable, whether the sampling method matches the question, whether the data presentation earns its space, and whether the conclusion answers what was asked. The assignment must be the student's own work from first word to last. A tutor may ask why a graph was chosen, point out that a conclusion does not follow from the data, and explain what the mark criteria reward. A tutor who offers to produce assessed work is offering the student a malpractice finding, and no grade is worth that.

If your child is on Paper 4, the work is different and cheaper. The paper asks about hypothesis design, sampling strategy, data-collection instruments, presentation choices and the evaluation of reliability and limitations. Students who have never collected field data struggle hardest on the evaluation questions at the end, because they have no experience of a method going wrong. That is fixable in teaching: walk through a flawed method, ask what it would actually produce, and the evaluation answers start to write themselves.

Either way, this component is the one where families most often discover in March that nobody has done anything. Both routes have internal school deadlines that sit well before the Cambridge series, and the school sets them, not Cambridge.

07

Tutoring cost in the context of a Dubai school-fee budget

Tutoring in Dubai is bought against a school fee that is already the largest line in most family budgets, and the useful question is not whether AED 250 an hour is a lot. It is what proportion of the year's education spend it represents and what it is displacing.

The context is unusually favourable at the moment. KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there would be no increase in private school fees in Dubai for the 2026-27 academic year, under the second of Dubai's economic incentives packages. The market itself is large and growing: Dubai's private school sector served 387,441 students across 227 schools offering 17 curricula in 2024-25, with UK-curriculum schools accounting for 37% of enrolment, and the 2026-27 intake adds seven new private schools and 16,846 places. A frozen fee and a growing supply of schools are the background against which a tutoring decision is made.

Against that, a single 0460 subject at one session a week for a year sits in the AED 600 to AED 1,200 a month band that Bestimate publishes for mid-tier weekly tutoring, rising to AED 1,000 to AED 2,000 and above for specialist exam-year support at two sessions a week. Monthly packages advertised in this market include AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 for four two-hour in-home visits. The right comparison is not tutoring against nothing; it is tutoring against a resit entry, a dropped option subject, or a sixth-form application made with a grade that closes doors.

The table puts the numbers side by side. Every figure in it belongs to the source named in the notes column, and none of it is a quotation from IB Gram.

Permits, honesty and what you are actually paying for

Private tutoring in the UAE is permitted and regulated, not grey. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, it is granted free of charge for two years, and the eligible categories are wide: teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, university students, and school students aged 15 to 18. The MoHRE service is listed as Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, applied for through the ministry's smart app, website and e-services system, with a two-working-day completion time and no fee shown.

Two consequences for a parent. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws; the ministry has not published a fine schedule, so any page quoting you a specific figure is inventing it. And because the permit is free and quick, a tutor who cannot tell you whether they hold one is telling you something about how they run their work. Ask. It is a reasonable question and it costs nothing to answer.

There is a second boundary worth knowing. In Abu Dhabi, ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit's code of conduct carries a similar restriction. The practical reading across the UAE is that your child's own class teacher is the wrong person to hire privately, however convenient it looks. A separate, properly permitted teacher who does not mark your child's school work is a cleaner arrangement for everyone.

A third boundary is ours rather than a regulator's. IB Gram holds no approval, accreditation or licence from KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, Cambridge International or Pearson, and any tutoring page that tells you otherwise should be read carefully. A KHDA Educational Services Permit is a specific instrument issued to training institutes with premises in Dubai. We teach online and we are not one. What you are buying is a qualified teacher's hours, the student's own work marked honestly, and a clear statement of what we will not do.

Where we tutor

Dubai communities, and what the evening drive would have cost

Online delivery makes the map below irrelevant to scheduling, which is exactly the point. It mattered enormously when the only option was a tutor in a car. These are the communities Dubai 0460 families write in from, with the detail that used to decide whether a 4pm session was possible.

Dubai Marina, JBR and Bluewaters

High-rise, high-density, and the hardest place in the city to park a visiting tutor. Families here were routinely quoted the top of the in-home band purely for access and travel time. An online slot at 4.30pm starts at 4.30pm.

Dubai Hills Estate and Arabian Ranches

Villa communities with long internal roads and a school-run peak that swallows the late afternoon. A tutor driving in from Al Barsha for a one-hour session was committing to nearly two hours of their day, and the quote reflected it.

Mirdif, Al Warqa and Al Mizhar

Well served by Cambridge-curriculum schools but far from where most specialist tutors live. Geography is a minority subject, so the Mirdif family wanting a 0460 specialist rather than a generalist had the thinnest local pool in the city.

Jumeirah Village Circle, Al Furjan and Discovery Gardens

Apartment communities with a high turnover of families arriving mid-year, often from a different curriculum. Mid-year arrivals are the group most likely to need map-skills teaching from the start rather than exam revision.

Jumeirah 1, 2 and 3

Short drives to several British-curriculum schools, which kept in-home quotes at the lower end of the Dubai band. The constraint here was never travel, it was finding a geography specialist at all during exam term.

Al Barsha, Tecom and Al Sufouh

The densest cluster of large private schools in Dubai and, historically, where visiting tutors were based. Families here paid least for travel and still paid AED 180 and up for an in-home hour.

Mudon, Town Square and Dubai South

Newer communities where a cross-city tutor journey can pass forty minutes in each direction during the evening window. These are the families for whom the online pool widens most dramatically.

Deira, Al Qusais and Bur Dubai

Older districts with a mix of Indian, British and Cambridge-curriculum schools and heavy evening congestion on the creek crossings. Sessions here routinely had to start after 6pm to be feasible in person.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai

Cambridge-curriculum schools serving Al Barsha, Tecom and the Marina

Large British-curriculum schools in this corridor run IGCSE at 16 and most offer geography as an option subject. Option-block pressure means geography classes are often small, which is pleasant for the student and means one absent week leaves a real hole.

  • Dubai College
  • Kings' School Al Barsha
  • GEMS Wellington International School
  • Dubai British School Jumeirah Park
  • Dubai International Academy

Schools serving Mirdif, Al Warqa and Al Qusais

A mixed curriculum cluster where families often sit Cambridge IGCSE alongside mandatory Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies. Timetable collisions here are the most common reason a geography set falls behind the scheme of work.

  • Uptown International School
  • GEMS Modern Academy
  • Star International School Mirdif
  • Deira International School

Schools serving Dubai Hills, Arabian Ranches and Al Qudra

Newer villa-community schools with growing IGCSE cohorts. Several entered their first full geography cohorts recently, so the departmental stock of past-paper practice and exemplar answers is still being built.

  • Jumeirah English Speaking School Arabian Ranches
  • GEMS Metropole School
  • Dubai Heights Academy
  • Ranches Primary School

Schools are named only as context for the Dubai Cambridge IGCSE market; IB Gram has no affiliation with, partnership with or endorsement from any school, school group or examination board named on this page.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us where the marks are going

Send the mock script if there is one, the school report, and which paper route the cohort is entered for: Paper 3 coursework or Paper 4. Three facts are enough to aim the first session. Without the script we spend the trial lesson diagnosing instead of teaching, which is a waste of a free hour.

  2. 02

Get a named teacher and a Gulf Standard Time slot

You are matched with a teacher who has taught 0460 to a full cohort, not a generalist with a geography degree. You are told who they are before the lesson, and the slot is fixed in Gulf Standard Time so it survives the school run, after-school sport and the evening homework window.

  3. 03

Use the free trial lesson to test the diagnosis

One free trial lesson, no card details taken and no obligation to continue. The teacher works on one real weakness rather than giving an overview, and you get a short written note of what they found afterwards. If the diagnosis does not match what you see at home, say so.

  4. 04

Settle into a weekly rhythm with marked work

A sixty or ninety-minute session each week, with a past-paper question marked against the published criteria every fortnight. You see the marked work, not a summary of it. The case-study bank and the map-skills drilling run in parallel rather than one after the other.

  5. 05

Re-aim at each mock and at the entry deadline

Mock results change the plan. So does the moment the school confirms the entry. At each point we re-rank the three themes and the skills paper by marks available, and move the hours to where they are worth most. Blocks can be paused and restarted; nothing is locked in for a year.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The rates on this page have sources attached

Every AED figure here is attributed to the provider or rate table that published it, with the month it was read. Three of the six competitor pages researched for this market publish no price at all, and two quote in US dollars. A parent cannot judge a quote without the band it sits in.

Online removes the availability constraint, not the teaching

Geography is an option subject with small cohorts, so the pool of 0460 specialists in any one Dubai community is thin. Teaching over live video means the choice is made on who knows how a 7-mark levels answer is built, rather than who can reach your community by 4.30pm.

Components are priced and planned separately

Paper 1 needs months of case-study building, Paper 2 responds to a short drilling block, and coursework support costs more per hour than either because the reading happens outside the lesson. A single blended rate hides which of those you are actually buying.

The student's own work stays the student's own work

A tutor questions a hypothesis, probes a method and gives feedback on what the candidate has already produced. Producing assessed material on a student's behalf is malpractice under Cambridge rules and risks the whole entry. This market contains sellers of finished coursework; we are not one of them.

No regulator or board endorses us, and we say so

IB Gram holds no KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, Ministry of Education, Cambridge or Pearson approval, and there is no UAE office. We explain what each regulator does and link to its own pages. A tutoring site claiming board approval is the most common trust failure in this market.

A free trial that is actually free

One trial lesson, no card details, no obligation. The condition is stated here rather than three clicks away: it is a single lesson, with a named teacher, on a real weakness, and you get the teacher's written note of what they found whether or not you continue.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

How much does a Cambridge IGCSE Geography 0460 home tutor cost in Dubai?+

The Dubai market advertises roughly AED 45 to AED 650 an hour, and the band that matters for most families is AED 150 to AED 300 for a qualified subject teacher online, or AED 180 to AED 500 for an in-home visit where travel sits inside the price. Unitors publishes IGCSE rates from AED 150, TutorChase lists AED 270, Bestimate's Dubai table puts in-home visits at AED 180 to AED 350, and BartyED quotes AED 650 at the premium end. Those are their published figures, read in October 2026, not ours. IB Gram teaches 0460 one-to-one online and starts with a free trial lesson rather than a quote.

Why is an online 0460 session cheaper than a home visit in Dubai?+

Because a visit buys the tutor's travel as well as their teaching. A cross-city trip in the 4pm to 6pm window costs between fifty and a hundred and twenty minutes of a tutor's day, and that time is inside the quote whether or not the invoice shows it. A tutor charging AED 350 for a one-hour visit with a ninety-minute round trip is earning about AED 140 per hour of their working time, which is below the online specialist rate. Remove the drive and the same qualification costs less, or the same money buys two sessions instead of one.

Does a 0460 tutor charge more for Paper 3 coursework supervision?+

Usually, and with good reason. Supporting a 2,000-word fieldwork report means reading it properly between sessions, checking the hypothesis is testable, the sampling matches the question and the data presentation earns its space, then writing feedback the student can act on. That work happens outside the billed hour. A tutor quoting the same rate for coursework support as for map-skills drilling is either underpricing one or overpricing the other. Ask how the draft-reading time is charged before the block starts, so the first invoice is not a surprise.

How many 0460 sessions does a Year 11 student in Dubai usually need?+

It depends far more on the starting point than on the subject. A candidate sitting around the middle of the grade range with a specific weakness, such as the skills paper or one weak theme, often moves on a block of six to ten sessions. A candidate who has fallen behind across all three themes and the skills paper is realistically looking at twenty to thirty-five sessions across the exam year. The variable that matters most is how many weeks remain. Thirty hours spread from September does more than thirty hours compressed into April, at exactly the same cost.

Is Paper 2 map skills cheaper to fix than Paper 1 case studies?+

Yes, and by a wide margin. Paper 2 is worth 27.5% of the grade and tests procedures: grid references, distance and bearing, gradient, cross-sections, photograph interpretation, graph completion. Procedures respond to drilling, so six to eight focused sessions can move the component substantially. Paper 1 carries 45% but rests on a bank of named, located case studies that takes months to build. For a family with a limited budget and a weak overall grade, a Paper 2 block is usually the most defensible purchase, and it is the component almost nobody practises at home.

Do 0460 tutoring rates in Dubai rise closer to the June series?+

The published hourly bands do not change much, but availability does, and availability is what you are really buying. Demand rises sharply after the Year 11 mock results and again once the Cambridge entry deadline passes. By the spring term the specialists with a free 4.30pm slot are the ones nobody booked, and families end up paying the exam-year band of AED 200 to AED 450 rather than the standard band simply because that is who is left. Booking in September costs the same per hour and buys roughly four times the hours.

Can two children in the same Dubai household share a 0460 session?+

If they are genuinely at the same point in the syllabus, yes, and it roughly halves the cost per child. Two Year 11 candidates in the same set, working on the same theme and the same question types, can be taught together productively. A Year 10 and a Year 11 cannot: one of them spends the hour watching. The honest test is whether the same marked past-paper question would be useful to both. If the answer is no, two shorter separate sessions beat one shared hour, even though the invoice looks worse.

What does the Cambridge IGCSE Geography 0460 syllabus actually cover?+

Three themes and a skills component. Theme 1, Population and settlement, covers population dynamics, migration, population structure and density, settlements, service provision and urbanisation. Theme 2, The natural environment, covers earthquakes and volcanoes, rivers, coasts, and weather, climate and natural vegetation including the tropical rainforest and hot desert. Theme 3, Economic development, covers development, food production, industry, tourism, energy, water and the environmental risks of economic development. Paper 2 tests geographical skills on a 1:25,000 map and other resources. The coursework or alternative paper tests fieldwork understanding.

Does Geography 0460 count towards UAE Ministry of Education equivalency?+

For the British track, the Ministry requires five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at a grade no lower than E or grade 3, plus one accredited subject at Advanced Level at no less than E or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level. Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five. Geography 0460 is an accredited IGCSE subject and can form part of that count. Equivalency is assessed by the Ministry, not by any tutoring service, and the rules are the Ministry's to change, so verify the current position on moe.gov.ae before relying on it.

Can a tutor supply Cambridge 0460 past papers and mark schemes?+

No, and you should be wary of anyone who offers to. Syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes and grade-boundary tables are Cambridge's copyright material, and reproducing or redistributing them is not something a legitimate tutor does. What a tutor can do is reference them, point you to cambridgeinternational.org and to your child's school, which holds proper access, and then teach against the published assessment criteria. Your child's geography department is the correct route to practice material, and most Dubai schools provide it readily when asked.

Does a private Geography tutor in Dubai need a MoHRE permit, and what does it cost?+

Yes. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed individuals, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. The application runs through MoHRE's smart app, website or e-services, listed as Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, with a two-working-day completion time. Tutoring without one attracts fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no fine schedule has been published, so treat any specific figure with suspicion.

Can 0460 sessions move to post-Iftar slots during Ramadan?+

Yes, and most families ask for it. Dubai schools shorten the day during Ramadan, concentration shifts to the evening and a 4.30pm lesson stops working. Moving to a post-Iftar slot keeps the weekly rhythm intact at a point in the year when the Year 11 cohort cannot afford to pause, since the month often sits close to mocks or to the run-up to the series. Because lessons are online and the teacher is not driving anywhere, the slot can move week to week without renegotiating a travel window.

What happens if no 0460 Geography specialist is free at our hour?+

We tell you, rather than filling the slot with a general science or humanities tutor. Geography is a minority option subject and the pool of teachers who have taken a full cohort through 0460 is genuinely limited, particularly in the late-afternoon Gulf Standard Time window when every Dubai family wants to be taught. The usual options are a different time, a short wait for a named teacher to come free, or a different format such as a fortnightly longer session. What we will not do is pretend a generalist is a specialist and let you discover it in week three.

How should a Dubai family budget 0460 tutoring against school fees?+

Treat it as a proportion of the year's education spend rather than as an hourly rate. KHDA confirmed no increase in Dubai private school fees for 2026-27, so the fee line is predictable this year. Against it, one weekly session in the mid band sits at roughly AED 600 to AED 1,200 a month on Bestimate's estimates, and exam-year support at two sessions a week at AED 1,000 to AED 2,000 and above. The comparison worth making is not tutoring against nothing, but tutoring against a resit entry or a sixth-form application made with a grade that closes options.

Is there a free trial before we commit to weekly 0460 sessions?+

Yes, one lesson, with no card details taken and no obligation to continue. The condition is simply that it is a single lesson with a named teacher. We ask for the mock script and the school report beforehand so that the hour is spent teaching a real weakness rather than running a general assessment, and you receive a short written note afterwards setting out what the teacher found and what they would do next. If that note does not match what you see at home, that is useful information too.

Start with the number, then with the diagnosis

You now know what a Cambridge IGCSE Geography 0460 home tutor in Dubai is quoted across this market, which part of that number is travel, and which component of the syllabus each hour should be aimed at. The next step is cheaper than any of it. Send the mock script, the school report and the paper route the cohort is entered for, and take the free trial lesson. You will get a named teacher who has taught 0460 to a full cohort, a Gulf Standard Time slot that survives the school run, and a written note of where the marks are actually going. Lessons run one-to-one over live video, and there is no obligation after the first hour.
