CBSE to IB Transition in Dubai

A CBSE to IB transition in Dubai is most often a shock about marking rather than about difficulty. CBSE rewards accurate recall of prescribed content, marked out of a hundred per subject; the Diploma rewards judgement, independent work and criterion marking, and reports one to seven. This page sets out what transfers, what does not, and the weekly evidence a bridge block should leave behind. Sessions run online, one to one.

  • Class-to-year mapping stated, including the April to March offset
  • CBSE command words translated into Diploma command terms
  • Every session leaves a marked artefact with a date
  • A percentage out of a hundred does not convert to a grade out of seven

IB & IGCSE in Dubai

Strong students, unfamiliar marking

Students arriving in the Diploma from a CBSE school are usually well prepared in ways nobody credits them for. Computation is fast and accurate. Content coverage in mathematics and the sciences is broad and often ahead of the local average. Work habits are strong, because a CBSE student has sat frequent assessments on prescribed material and has learned to prepare for them systematically. None of that is a weakness and none of it is wasted.

What changes is what the marks are for. In CBSE a subject is marked out of a hundred, the content is prescribed in the NCERT material, and a question that asks the student to explain a process rewards an accurate account of that process. In the Diploma a subject is graded one to seven, the assessment rewards judgement as much as knowledge, and an accurate account of a process can earn very little if the command term asked for an evaluation. A strong CBSE student's first Diploma report is frequently the first disappointing report they have ever had.

The second change is the internally assessed work. Every Diploma subject carries an Internal Assessment produced by the student and marked against published criteria, and the Diploma core adds a four thousand word Extended Essay, a Theory of Knowledge course and a service requirement with written reflections. A CBSE student has met internal assessment components, but rarely six pieces of independently designed work running at once with no prescribed answer to aim at.

The third change is the one families notice last. Criterion marking cannot be collected point by point. A piece of work with correct results and no evaluation loses the marks that reward evaluation, because that criterion has nothing to judge. A student trained to maximise marks by covering more content will cover more content and the mark will not move, which is both frustrating and entirely predictable.

A bridge block that works addresses those three changes directly and leaves evidence. Six weeks is the usual shape. By the end there should be a marked task at genuine Diploma difficulty in one subject, a command-term translation the student has actually used, one piece of their own work marked against criteria so they have seen it applied to themselves, and the school's internal deadlines written on a single calendar. That last item costs nothing and is routinely missing.

Sessions are delivered online, one to one, over live video. IB Gram does not run home visits in Dubai, since that is an India-only service, and for a family who may still be moving between the two countries that matters: the same tutor and the same marked record continue through a relocation rather than being abandoned with a local arrangement.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Where a student joins matters more in this move than in most, because the Indian and UAE academic years do not align. These are the three entry points Dubai families deal with.

MYPAges 14-16 · Years 9-11

Joining before the Diploma

A student arriving from CBSE Class 8 or 9 into the Middle Years Programme meets criterion marking for the first time with two or three years to absorb it, which is much the easiest version of this move. The adjustment is written reflection rather than content, and the Personal Project at the end is the first real test of it.

Dubai IB schools admit mid-phase into the MYP regularly, so a student can arrive in Year 9 and be assessed against criteria the cohort has used since Year 7. That is a scheduling fact rather than a weakness, and it argues for explaining criteria explicitly in the first term.

DP1Ages 16-17 · Year 12

Joining at the start of the Diploma

The cleanest entry point: a student who completed CBSE Class 10 in March arrives for the first Diploma year in August or September with nothing in progress. Content is largely continuous in mathematics and the sciences, and the whole adjustment is to the assessment model, which is what a bridge block is for.

This alignment is the one piece of luck in the calendar offset. The Indian academic year ending in March and the UAE year starting in late summer means a Class 10 leaver has a genuine gap, and four well-used sessions in that gap are worth more than fifty pages of pre-reading.

Mid-courseAges 16-18

Joining partway through

The hard case. A student leaving Class 11 in the middle of the Indian year lands in a Diploma cohort with Internal Assessments already underway, an Extended Essay question expected, and Theory of Knowledge several months in. This is a content and logistics problem together, and it needs stating honestly rather than optimistically.

The practical first step for a mid-course arrival in Dubai is a list from the coordinator of what the cohort has already submitted and what deadlines have passed. Nothing in a plan is reliable until that list exists, and families are often several weeks in before anyone asks for it.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Each subject below is described in terms of what CBSE already built and what the Diploma adds, which is the comparison that makes a bridge plan specific rather than general.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

CBSE mathematics is an excellent foundation for the content and an incomplete one for the writing. Marks go on a visible route to the answer, and a student used to producing correct results efficiently will lose method marks until the habit changes. The non-calculator paper suits CBSE training better than most students expect.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Statistics and modelling go further than CBSE typically requires, and the demand is as much written as mathematical: state the method, the result, what it means in context and one limitation. Students strong in computation and reticent in English find this the real adjustment.

Physics

HL and SL

Content overlap with CBSE physics is high and numerical fluency transfers directly. What is new is the explicit statement of the principle in use, units and significant figures treated as marks, and an Internal Assessment investigation the student designs rather than follows.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Mole calculations and equation work transfer well. Organic mechanisms at Higher Level go further than CBSE, and the practical component changes entirely: a designed investigation assessed against criteria rather than a prescribed experiment with a known expected result.

Biology

HL and SL

CBSE biology builds strong recall, and the Diploma rewards data interpretation and the mark scheme's accepted terminology instead. Extended responses need a different register, and students who have memorised accurate definitions are often writing the right content in the wrong form.

Economics and Business Management

HL and SL

Frequently new subjects for a CBSE student who studied science streams. Content starts from the beginning, which is fine; the immediate demand is evaluation, which is unfamiliar to anyone trained on knowledge questions and is where the first marks are lost.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

A step up in register and in task type from CBSE English. Unseen guided analysis, a comparative essay and an Individual Oral are all new forms. Students with excellent English frequently underperform here for a term purely on form rather than on language.

English B

HL and SL

The appropriate route for some students and a mistake for others, and the choice is made at entry. It is worth asking the school how it decides, because a strong English user placed in English B can be capped and a weaker one placed in English A can struggle for two years.

Hindi and other Indian languages

Language A or Language B, HL and SL

A genuine advantage in this move, since a home language can often be taken as a Diploma language subject. Availability depends on what the school offers and on self-taught arrangements where they exist, so ask early rather than assuming.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways to run this move, each defined by what it leaves behind. All are delivered online, one to one.

Command-term and criterion bridge

Four sessions aimed squarely at the marking change. The student takes CBSE-style answers they have already written and rewrites them to Diploma command terms, then judges band descriptors on a short piece before having their own work marked against criteria. The artefacts are the rewritten answers, side by side with the originals.

  • Existing answers rewritten to Diploma command terms
  • Band descriptors judged by the student, with reasons written down
  • One piece of their own work marked against criteria
  • Before and after versions kept together as the record

Subject bridge with marked tasks

Six sessions in one subject, usually mathematics or a Higher Level science, each producing a marked task at genuine Diploma difficulty. The purpose is to separate the content question from the technique question, because a CBSE student's apparent weakness is usually technique and treating it as content wastes a term.

  • A marked task at real Diploma standard in week one
  • Written method and command terms drilled on real questions
  • A second comparable task at the end, marks side by side
  • A written statement of what is content and what is technique

Mid-course arrival audit

Two or three sessions for a student joining partway through, built around the coordinator's list of what the cohort has submitted and what deadlines have passed. The output is a written plan naming what can realistically be caught up and what cannot, which is more useful than optimism and cheaper than discovering it in April.

  • The coordinator's submission and deadline list obtained first
  • Coverage gaps separated from adjustment gaps
  • A written plan naming what will not be reached
  • Priority order set by which marks are still open

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai

01

What CBSE builds, and what the Diploma asks for instead

It is worth being specific about the strengths, because transition advice usually frames this move as a deficit and that is both wrong and demoralising. CBSE builds broad content coverage against prescribed material, high computational speed and accuracy, and the discipline of preparing systematically for frequent assessment. In mathematics and the sciences a CBSE Class 10 leaver often knows more than a local peer at the same age, and in numerical work they are usually faster.

The Diploma then asks for things that prescribed content does not develop. It asks for judgement: discuss, evaluate, to what extent, justify. It asks for independent design: an Internal Assessment where the student chooses the question and the method, and a four thousand word essay on a topic nobody set. And it asks for reflection in writing, in Theory of Knowledge, in Internal Assessment evaluations and in CAS records.

None of those is harder in the abstract; they are differently shaped, and the shape is the work. A student who can write an accurate account of a process in eight marks' worth of prose can learn to write a judgement in the same space, and typically does so within a few marked attempts once somebody shows them what the difference looks like on a page. The failure mode is nobody showing them, and the student concluding they are weaker than they were.

The table sets the two systems against each other on the points that change study behaviour. Read it with your child rather than about them, because recognising the strengths column matters as much as the gap column for a student whose confidence has just taken a hit.

Class to year, and the calendar offset nobody plans for

The Indian academic year runs roughly April to March, and the UAE academic year runs roughly late August to June or July. That offset is the structural fact behind most of the practical difficulty in this move, and it produces two very different experiences depending on when a family relocates.

A student who completes CBSE Class 10 in March and starts the first Diploma year in the following August has the cleanest possible transition. The qualification is finished, nothing is in progress, and there is a genuine gap in which a short bridge block can do real work. Families in this position should use the gap for technique rather than content: command terms, written method, and one honest look at what an Internal Assessment is.

A student who leaves partway through Class 11 lands in a Diploma cohort several months into the first year. Internal Assessments are underway in some subjects, an Extended Essay question is expected, Theory of Knowledge has been running, and CAS has started. None of that is insurmountable and all of it needs mapping before any tutoring plan is written. The first task is a list from the coordinator of what has been submitted and which deadlines have passed.

The table maps the common entry points with what each one actually requires. The column worth attention is the last: in two of these rows the honest first step is administrative rather than academic, and skipping it is how families end up paying for subject tutoring while a deadline quietly passes.

03

Translating the command words

This is the cheapest and most effective single intervention in the whole move, and it takes two sessions. CBSE questions and Diploma questions use different instruction vocabularies, and a student answering a Diploma question with a CBSE reflex produces competent prose that the criteria cannot reward. The fix is a translation exercise using the student's own existing answers rather than a lecture about terminology.

Take an answer the student has already written for a CBSE assessment, something they were pleased with. Put the Diploma command term list beside it. Then ask them to identify what the Diploma question would have asked for and rewrite the answer accordingly. Write a short note on what changed. Doing that three times produces a student who reads the command term before the question stem, which is the behaviour that recovers marks across every subject at once.

The particular traps are consistent. Accounts of processes offered where a judgement was wanted. Full explanations offered where one exact point was wanted, wasting time needed later in the paper. Two positions described in sequence where they needed comparing explicitly. And conclusions that summarise rather than judge, which is the single most common omission on a Diploma extended response from any background.

The table pairs the familiar instruction with the Diploma equivalent and names what has to change on the page. It is deliberately practical: a student can keep it beside them while rewriting, which is how it earns its keep.

04

The laboratory shift

  • A prescribed experiment and a designed investigation are different tasks
  • Unexpected data is material for the evaluation, not a failure
  • Narrow the question until it has measurable variables
  • A tutor questions and comments; the student writes everything

CBSE science practicals are prescribed: a known experiment, a known expected result, a recording format taught in advance, and an assessment that rewards correct execution. A Diploma Internal Assessment in a science is almost the opposite. The student chooses a research question, designs a method, collects data that may not behave, and is marked substantially on how well they evaluate what happened, including what went wrong.

That inversion catches strong students hardest. A student who has always produced the expected result reads an unexpected result as a failure and tries to hide it, when the criteria reward exactly the opposite: identifying a specific limitation, explaining its effect on the result, and proposing a concrete improvement. The most valuable single sentence in a bridge block is that unexpected data is material rather than a mistake.

The second part of the shift is designing a question narrow enough to investigate. Students arriving from a prescribed-practical background choose questions at the scale of a textbook chapter, because that is the scale they have worked at. Narrowing a question until it can be measured, with a dependent variable, an independent variable and controls that are genuinely controlled, is a session's work and it determines the ceiling of the whole Internal Assessment.

A tutor's role here is bounded and should be stated. A tutor can question whether a research question is investigable, point out that a control variable is not controlled, ask what the measurement uncertainty does to the conclusion, and comment on a draft by naming the criterion and the band. A tutor cannot write, rewrite or produce any part of it, and a service offering a completed investigation is selling your child a malpractice risk.

05

English, Hindi and the language decision

Language placement is made at entry and it is one of the few decisions in this move with a two-year consequence that cannot easily be reversed. The Diploma requires a studies-in-language-and-literature subject, commonly English A, and a language acquisition subject, commonly a second language at Language B. For a CBSE student the question is whether English belongs in the first group or the second, and whether a home language can fill the other.

The risk runs in both directions. A student with strong, fluent English placed into English B can find the course unchallenging and the grade capped relative to what they could have achieved. A student whose English is good for conversation and school science but untested in literary analysis, placed into English A, can struggle for two years in a subject they cannot drop. Ask the school directly how it makes the placement and what evidence it uses, and offer a piece of the student's own analytical writing if that helps.

The home language is frequently an advantage and is often left unexplored. Hindi and several other Indian languages can appear in a Diploma programme as a language subject, depending on what the school offers and on whether self-taught arrangements are available. That can convert an existing strength into a reliable subject grade, which is a better use of a strength than letting it sit idle. Ask at admission rather than in the second term, because timetabling decisions harden quickly.

The practical bridge for English A is form rather than language. Unseen guided analysis, the comparative essay and the Individual Oral are three task types a CBSE student has not met, and each has a learnable structure. Two marked attempts at each, a fortnight apart, with the student comparing their own two versions, does more than any amount of reading.

06

Percentages, grades and the expectation gap at home

This section is for parents rather than students, because the hardest part of this transition is often a conversation at the kitchen table. A CBSE student who scored in the nineties arrives in a system that reports one to seven per subject, with a total out of forty-five, and the first report shows numbers that look catastrophic by the old scale. They are not comparable, and no conversion table exists that would make them so.

Two facts help. The first is that the Diploma grade scale is not a percentage: a grade 5 is a solid, university-acceptable result in most subjects and most systems, and a 7 is awarded to a small proportion of candidates globally. The second is that the Diploma total includes up to three points from Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay, which are not subject marks at all and which a diligent student can secure with planning.

What parents should look at instead of the grade is the record. Marked work with raw marks and dates, a topic list that shortens, comments on an Internal Assessment draft naming criterion letters, a command-term rewrite with the before and after side by side. Those show movement in a way a one-to-seven grade in the first term cannot, because the first term is when the student is learning the system rather than performing in it.

Recognition in other systems is a separate question families ask early and should ask of the right body. Admission to universities in India, in the UAE and elsewhere is governed by each institution's requirements and by the relevant national recognition authority, and no requirement or equivalence figure is published here because none could be verified from an official source for this page. Ask the institution, and for UAE recognition of a foreign certificate ask the Ministry of Education through its own channel.

07

The weekly record, and what to ask for

A parent who did not study in this system can still audit a transition block, provided the right artefacts are produced. The test is whether something exists at the end of each week that did not exist at the start, and whether it can be read without an explanation from the tutor. In this particular move, four artefacts matter most and all four are cheap to produce.

The first is a marked task at genuine Diploma difficulty with a raw mark and a date. The second is a command-term rewrite: the student's own earlier answer and their Diploma version, side by side, with a note on what changed. The third is a piece of their own work marked against criteria, with the criterion letter and band named. The fourth is the school's internal deadline list, which is free and is the one most often missing.

Across six weeks those artefacts become a record of adjustment rather than a record of effort, and the distinction is the whole point. A student can work extremely hard in the first Diploma term in ways that produce nothing, because they are working in the previous system's style. The record makes that visible in week three rather than in the mock results.

The table lists what to ask for by session type. Ask for the artefact rather than for a progress update: progress updates are easy to write and impossible to check, and in a transition term they are almost always optimistic for reasons of kindness rather than dishonesty.

THE ARTEFACT TO ASK FOR, BY SESSION TYPE

08

Buying this honestly

Published Dubai rates give the arithmetic. A qualified online subject tutor sits at AED 150 to 300 an hour, with Unitors publishing IB from AED 200. Specialist IB work is quoted at AED 200 to 450 and above in Bestimate's 2026 Dubai rate table, TutorChase at AED 270, and BartyED's premium named tier at AED 650. A four-session command-term and criterion bridge is therefore roughly AED 600 to 1,800, and a six-session subject bridge AED 900 to 2,700. Those are the providers' figures; ours is quoted after the free trial lesson with session length and marking inclusion stated.

Refuse a transition package built around content across several subjects. In this particular move content is the part that transfers best, and a plan that bills for re-teaching mathematics to a CBSE student is charging for the strongest thing they already have. Ask instead which artefacts the block produces and in which order.

Refuse any offer to produce Internal Assessment or Extended Essay material. This move brings families into contact with a market that includes sites selling completed coursework, and the risk falls entirely on the student. A tutor explains criteria, questions methods and comments on drafts; the student writes every word.

Insist on one thing above all: that the first session produces a marked task at genuine Diploma difficulty rather than a conversation about the differences between curricula. A script tells a family in one hour whether the issue is content or technique, and in this move it is almost always technique. No success rate, average point score or satisfaction figure appears on this page, because none could be produced with a sample size, a date and a method, and no tutor can promise a Diploma score.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across Dubai

This move happens most in the parts of Dubai with the largest Indian-curriculum communities, and the practical notes below are about scheduling and about the logistics of arriving mid-year.

Al Nahda and Al Qusais

Long-established Indian school provision alongside British and IB schools, so families here often move within a short radius. The sibling still at a CBSE school and the one now in the Diploma need entirely different plans, which is worth separating from the start.

Karama, Oud Metha and Bur Dubai

Older central communities with several long-standing Indian schools. Students moving out of them into an IB school usually face a new school as well as a new qualification, so the internal deadline list matters doubly.

International City and Silicon Oasis

High turnover and many arrivals direct from India, including mid-year. That is the hardest version of this transition and it needs an early list from the coordinator of what the cohort has already submitted.

Mirdif and Al Warqa

Large eastern communities with both Indian and British school provision and long commutes. A weekend block for a marked Diploma-difficulty task plus a short midweek check on an Internal Assessment draft holds better than two weekday evenings.

Jumeirah Village Circle and Sports City

Apartment communities with many recent arrivals, where students are often placed by age. A student placed into the first Diploma year without finishing Class 10 has a genuine coverage question, not only an adjustment question.

Dubai Silicon Oasis and Academic City

University-belt households, frequently with strong mathematics and science backgrounds. Demand here concentrates on Analysis and Approaches Higher Level and on the first science Internal Assessment.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

    Establish the placement in writing

Which year the student is joining, and on what basis. For a mid-course arrival, ask the coordinator for a list of what the cohort has already submitted and which internal deadlines have passed. Nothing in a plan is reliable until that list exists, and families are often weeks in before anyone asks.

  2. 02

    Settle the language decision early

Ask the school how it places students between English A and English B and what evidence it uses, and ask whether a home language can be taken as a Diploma language subject. Both decisions harden with the timetable and both have two-year consequences that are hard to reverse.

  3. 03

Produce one marked task at Diploma difficulty

In the strongest subject, not the weakest, so the result separates technique from content cleanly. Marked against the published standard with losses classified as content, command term, method or time. In this move the answer is usually command term and method, which is good news.

  4. 04

    Run the command-term rewrite

Take an answer the student already wrote and was pleased with, put the Diploma command term list beside it, and have them rewrite it. Three of those and a student starts reading the command term before the stem, which recovers marks across every subject simultaneously.

  5. 05

Close on a second marked task and a deadline calendar

Same subject, same conditions as the first, with the two raw marks side by side, plus the school's internal deadlines on one page. Then decide separately whether weekly subject support is warranted, from the evidence rather than from momentum.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

We start from the strengths, because they are real

Computation, content breadth and assessment discipline transfer directly from CBSE and are frequently ahead of the local average. A plan that bills for re-teaching those is charging for what the student already has, which is the commonest fault in transition packages.

The command-term rewrite, not a terminology lecture

The student rewrites their own earlier answers to Diploma command terms and keeps both versions. Three of those changes how they read every question afterwards, and it costs a fraction of a term of subject teaching.

The calendar offset treated as a planning fact

The Indian year ending in March and the UAE year starting in late summer makes a Class 10 leaver's entry clean and a mid-Class 11 move difficult. Those two cases need different plans, and we say which one you are in before quoting anything.

Criterion marking taught by judging, not describing

The student judges band descriptors on a short piece and writes the reasons, then sees criteria applied to their own work. That is the shift, and a tutor explaining criteria while the student listens is not it.

No conversions, thresholds or outcome claims

No percentage-to-grade conversion is offered because none exists. No university requirement or recognition figure is published, because none could be verified from an official source. No success rate appears, since none could be produced with a sample size and a method.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

What does a CBSE background prepare my child well for in the Diploma?+

More than transition advice usually admits. Broad content coverage, particularly in mathematics and the sciences, which the Diploma then extends rather than replaces. High computational speed and accuracy, which helps in every quantitative subject. And the discipline of preparing systematically for frequent assessment, which is exactly what the final Diploma year demands. In mathematics and physics a CBSE Class 10 leaver is often ahead of the local average on content. The adjustment is to how marks are awarded, not to how much the student knows.

Which CBSE class maps onto which Diploma year?+

Broadly, Class 9 sits alongside Year 10, Class 10 alongside Year 11, and Classes 11 and 12 alongside the two Diploma years. The complication is the calendar: the Indian academic year runs roughly April to March while the UAE year runs late August to June or July. A student finishing Class 10 in March and starting the first Diploma year in August has the cleanest possible entry. A student leaving partway through Class 11 arrives mid-course, which is a different and harder problem.

Why did my child's marks fall from the nineties to a 5?+

Because the two numbers measure different things and are not comparable. A CBSE subject mark out of a hundred rewards accurate coverage of prescribed content. A Diploma subject grade from one to seven includes criterion-marked internal work and rewards judgement as much as knowledge. A grade 5 is a solid result that most universities accept, and a 7 is awarded to a small proportion of candidates globally. In the first term the student is learning the system rather than performing in it, so look at marked work and movement rather than at the grade.

Is there a conversion from a CBSE percentage to an IB grade?+

No, and any table offering one is inventing it. The two systems assess differently: one against expected answers on prescribed content, the other partly against criteria applied to self-directed work. Attempting a conversion produces a number that misleads parents and demoralises students. The useful comparison is internal and over time: two comparable Diploma tasks sat under the same conditions a month apart, with their raw marks side by side. That shows whether the adjustment is happening, which a converted percentage never could.

What do CBSE science practicals not prepare a student for?+

The inversion of the task. A CBSE practical is prescribed, with a known expected result and a taught recording format, and rewards correct execution. A Diploma Internal Assessment asks the student to choose a research question, design a method, collect data that may misbehave, and then be marked substantially on how well they evaluate what happened. Strong students struggle most, because they read an unexpected result as failure and try to hide it, when the criteria reward naming the limitation, its effect, and a concrete improvement.

Can my child take Hindi as a Diploma subject?+

Often yes, and it is worth asking at admission rather than in the second term. The Diploma requires a language acquisition subject and a studies-in-language-and-literature subject, and several Indian languages can appear in one of those groups depending on what the school offers and whether self-taught arrangements are available. Converting an existing home-language strength into a reliable subject grade is a better use of it than leaving it idle, but timetabling decisions harden quickly, so the question needs asking early.

Should my child be placed in English A or English B?+

Ask the school how it decides and what evidence it uses, because the risk runs both ways and the decision is hard to reverse. A fluent English user placed into English B may find the course unchallenging and the achievable grade effectively capped. A student whose English is strong in conversation and school science but untested in literary analysis may struggle for two years in English A. If it helps the conversation, offer a piece of the student's own analytical writing rather than a general assurance about their English.

We are moving from India mid-year. What does that do to the first Diploma year?+

It turns an adjustment problem into a logistics problem as well. The cohort will have Internal Assessments underway in some subjects, an Extended Essay question expected, Theory of Knowledge several months in and CAS started. The first step is not tutoring: it is a written list from the coordinator of what has been submitted and which deadlines have passed. Only then can a plan say honestly what can be caught up and what cannot, and that honesty is worth more than an optimistic schedule.

Is CBSE mathematics enough for Analysis and Approaches?+

For content, usually yes and sometimes more than enough. CBSE mathematics is a strong foundation for the algebra and calculus that Analysis and Approaches builds on, and the non-calculator paper suits that training better than students expect. The gap is written method: the mark scheme pays for a visible route to the answer, and a student used to producing correct results efficiently will discard method marks until the habit changes. That is three marked papers of work, not a term.

What is the single biggest adjustment a CBSE student has to make?+

Accepting that marks are not collected by covering more ground. In a prescribed-content system, more coverage reliably means more marks. In criterion-marked work, a piece with correct results and no evaluation loses the marks that reward evaluation however thorough the results are. A student who responds to a disappointing Internal Assessment by adding content will see no movement, which is frustrating and predictable. The fix is to plan against the criteria before drafting, which takes ten minutes and changes the outcome.

Do you come to our home in Dubai for transition sessions?+

No. IB Gram does not run home visits anywhere in the UAE, since that is an India-only service, and all sessions are delivered online over live video. For families in the middle of a relocation that is a practical advantage rather than a limitation: the same tutor and the same accumulated record of marked work continue through a move in either direction, instead of being abandoned with a local arrangement. Comments on drafts also stay in the student's own document rather than in a conversation nobody can revisit.

How many weeks does a bridge from CBSE to the Diploma take?+

Four to six sessions for the technique adjustment, which is the part that matters most and the part families underestimate. A four-session command-term and criterion bridge runs roughly AED 600 to 1,800 at published Dubai rates, and a six-session subject bridge roughly AED 900 to 2,700. Those are market figures from Unitors, TutorChase and Bestimate rather than ours. Whether more is needed should be decided from the two raw marks at either end of the block rather than booked in advance.

Does the Diploma suit a student who learns by practice and repetition?+

Yes for the examined components and less naturally for the internally assessed ones, which is where the support should go. Practice and repetition work extremely well on Diploma papers: command terms, written method, timed structure and paper technique all respond to exactly that approach. Internal Assessments, the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge reward something else, namely defining a task and judging one's own work. Those are learnable too, but they are learned by doing them once with good feedback rather than by repetition.

What evidence should I ask for in the first month?+

Four things, all cheap to produce. A marked task at genuine Diploma difficulty with a raw mark and a date. A command-term rewrite showing the student's own earlier answer and their Diploma version side by side with a note on what changed. One piece of their own work marked against criteria with the criterion letter and band named. And the school's internal deadline list on a single calendar. If the first month produced only reassurance about settling in, ask what the next month will produce.

Will the Diploma be accepted for university admission in India?+

Recognition of the Diploma for admission in India is governed by the relevant national recognition authority and by each institution's own requirements, and no requirement or equivalence figure is published here because none could be verified from an official source for this page. Ask the specific institutions in writing and keep the replies, since requirements differ between universities and between intakes. For recognition of a foreign secondary certificate within the UAE, the Ministry of Education runs its own process through its own channel.

Start from the strengths, then fix the marking

This move rewards a plan that names what already works. Computation, content breadth and assessment discipline transfer directly, so the money belongs in the marking adjustment rather than in re-teaching mathematics. Confirm the placement in writing, settle the language decision early, and get the school's internal deadlines onto one calendar in the first fortnight. Then produce one marked task at genuine Diploma difficulty in your child's strongest subject, so the problem can be named as command term and method rather than guessed at as content. Book the free trial lesson, bring that script, and ask which artefacts the block will produce.
