IB Home Tutor Fees in Dubai

IB home tutor fees in Dubai are rarely a single number, and most of the confusion comes from what sits inside the hour. This page takes a quote apart: the published AED bands by format, the travel and minimum-session rules that set the floor, what monthly packages lock you into, what a two-year Diploma plan totals, and which line items are worth refusing. IB Gram delivers one-to-one tuition over live video rather than sending anyone across the emirate.

IB & IGCSE in Dubai

Why two quotes for the same subject can differ by a factor of ten

A Dubai parent who asks three providers for IB tutoring quotes will often get AED 60, AED 250 and AED 650 an hour. Those are not three prices for the same thing. They are three different products with the same label, and the gap between them is made of four things: who the tutor is, how long the session has to be, whether anyone is driving, and what you have committed to in advance. Separate those out and the market becomes legible.

Published market figures make the structure visible. At the budget end, EdFlik advertises from AED 45 to 65 an hour and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52, typically online and often delivered by undergraduates. Qualified subject tutors working online sit roughly AED 150 to 300, with Unitors publishing IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. Exam-level IB and IGCSE specialists run around AED 200 to 450 and above, with TutorChase at AED 270 and Bestimate's Dubai rate table reaching AED 450 and beyond. The premium named end reaches AED 650 at BartyED. In-home one-to-one visits occupy their own band of roughly AED 180 to 500 once travel is priced in, per Bestimate and local home-tutor listings.

Those are other providers' published prices, read in October 2026, with their names attached so you can check them yourself. They are not IB Gram's price list, and most competitors in this search publish no figure at all, which is why parents end up comparing by feel. The pattern in the numbers is simple: format sets the floor and demonstrable specialism sets the ceiling. A home visit cannot be cheap in a city where a tutor may drive forty minutes each way, and a Chemistry HL specialist in April cannot be cheap because every family wants the same eight weeks.

This page treats the home-tutoring question straight, because it is the question being asked. Home tuition in Dubai is a real, widely used service, it has a real price, and families choose it for understandable reasons: a younger child who needs an adult physically present, a household with poor connectivity, a parent who wants to overhear the lesson. Those reasons are legitimate and this page does not argue with them. What it does is show you the cost structure behind the quote so you can tell a fair one from an inflated one.

IB Gram's own model is different and worth stating plainly before you read further. We deliver one-to-one tuition over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time around a Dubai school week. We do not offer home visits in the UAE; in-home tutoring is a service we run only in India. The fee consequence of that is straightforward, and it is the main reason the comparison table further down exists: nobody is paying for a car, so the money in the hour goes to teaching, and the tutor is chosen for the subject rather than for the drive.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Fees vary by programme because the work does. A PYP session is short and skills-based; a DP2 session is long, paper-based and competes with every other family in the emirate for the same weeks of the year.

DPAges 16-19 · DP1 and DP2

Diploma Programme

The most expensive band to buy, for sound reasons. Sessions are usually sixty to ninety minutes, demand concentrates into the months before final papers, and the tutor needs current subject-guide accuracy plus the ability to mark against published criteria. Core components add their own hours: Extended Essay process support and Theory of Knowledge feedback are separate asks from subject teaching.

Dubai DP demand is highly seasonal, which moves prices in practice even when a published rate card does not change. Requests cluster from January to April, and a family booking a specialist in that window is competing with the whole emirate at once. Booking in DP1 term two, rather than waiting for a DP2 mock result, is the single cheapest decision available.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP 1-5

Middle Years Programme

Usually mid-band. Sessions are shorter, the content is less specialised and a single tutor can often cover two related subjects, which reduces the total spend. The useful spend here is on criterion literacy rather than content coverage, because an MYP report in letters and numbers is what most parents cannot act on.

Many Dubai families start tutoring in MYP 4 or 5 because of a transition decision ahead: Diploma or a British sixth form. That makes a short diagnostic block better value than a long commitment, since the question is as much about fit for the next qualification as about recovering a current grade.

PYPAges 3-12 · Pre-K to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

The lowest band, and the one where in-home fees look most attractive to parents of young children for reasons that have little to do with teaching. Sessions are typically thirty to forty-five minutes, which matters when a provider's minimum booking is ninety, since you then pay for time a seven-year-old cannot use.

Dubai primary cohorts include many mid-year arrivals from other systems, so the common request is to close a specific gap rather than to run a long programme. Arabic as an additional language is the most requested primary subject in the emirate, driven by the KHDA requirement that private schools teach it regardless of the licensed curriculum.

DP coreAges 16-19 · across both DP years

Extended Essay, TOK and internal assessment support

Often priced per block rather than per hour, because the work is bursty: heavy at the question-framing stage, light in the middle, heavy again before a supervisor deadline. A fair quote for this is time-based with a stated cap, since open-ended coursework support is how tutoring bills quietly expand.

Internal deadlines for these components differ by several weeks between Dubai IB World Schools, so a block bought against a neighbour's timetable may land in the wrong month. Ask your school's coordinator for the assessment calendar before buying hours, and build the block around the school's dates rather than a provider's package.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Subject scarcity is a real fee driver in Dubai, because DP provision sits in a minority of schools and specialist teachers are correspondingly thin. Below, each subject carries a note on what tends to move its price locally.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

The highest-volume request in the emirate, which keeps SL supply reasonable and rates mid-band. HL, and particularly Paper 3 investigation work, is scarcer and sits at the specialist end from February onwards.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Growing demand as more Dubai students take the applied route, but fewer teachers have taught both courses. Expect specialist pricing where a tutor can genuinely cover the statistics and modelling content rather than adapting an analysis course.

Chemistry

HL and SL

The tightest HL market in Dubai between February and May, which is when most families start looking. Booking the same tutor in DP1 costs the same per hour and gets a better choice of slot.

Physics

HL and SL

Mid to specialist band. Uncertainty treatment and the practical investigation are the components that need a specialist; mechanics support is widely available and should not attract a premium.

Biology

HL and SL

Good supply at SL, tighter at HL. The fee-efficient intervention is command-term and extended-response work, which transfers quickly, rather than a full content sweep across the course.

Economics

HL and SL

Moderate supply. HL quantitative work and internal assessment commentary feedback are the parts worth paying specialist rates for; general theory coverage is not scarce in Dubai.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Widely available, so a premium rate here needs justification. The scarce skill is marking unseen-text analysis against the published descriptors, which is worth asking a tutor to demonstrate before agreeing a rate.

Business Management

HL and SL

Reasonable supply at SL, thinner at HL. Case-study application work is the high-value hour; framework recall is not something to buy at the top of the market.

Computer Science

HL and SL

The thinnest subject market in the emirate, and the one where UAE-based coverage most often runs out. Expect a longer match time and a match from our wider pool, with no change to the online format.

Arabic as an Additional Language

Ab initio and B

High volume across all year groups because Dubai private schools must teach Arabic regardless of the licensed curriculum. Rates are mid-band, but matching the school's stream matters more than the rate does.

Theory of Knowledge

Core

Usually bought as a short block rather than weekly. The highest-value hours are spent on prescribed-title choice and knowledge-question framing, both of which happen before any writing and cost very little.

Extended Essay process support

Core

Price this as a capped block, not open-ended. The scope and method conversation is a few hours; everything after that is the student's own writing, with the school supervisor formally responsible for the process.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

The format you choose moves the fee more than almost anything else, because it decides how much of the hour is teaching. All IB Gram formats are delivered one-to-one over live video.

Weekly one-to-one over live video

A fixed slot each week with the same tutor for one subject. No travel component, so the whole hour is teaching, and session length can match what the student can actually use rather than what makes a journey worthwhile. A short written note follows each session.

  • No travel cost inside the hour
  • Session length set by the student, not the journey
  • Written note after each session
  • Tutor chosen for subject and level, not proximity

Free trial lesson

A full first lesson at no cost and with no card details taken. The condition is that it is one lesson, so you can test the match rather than sample a course. Bring a marked script; the fastest way to judge value is to watch a tutor read it.

  • No payment or card details beforehand
  • One full-length lesson, not a fifteen-minute call
  • Bring marked work to make it useful
  • Change the match afterwards at no cost

Capped block for core components

A fixed number of hours for Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge or internal assessment support, with the cap agreed in advance. Coursework support is where open-ended billing happens, so a stated ceiling protects the budget and forces the work to be prioritised.

  • Agreed hour cap before the block starts
  • Built around the school's own deadline, not a package month
  • Feedback and questioning only; the student writes everything
  • Written summary at the end of the block

Short diagnostic block

Four to six sessions with one defined question and a written answer at the end, including a recommendation to stop where that is the honest conclusion. Families use this instead of committing to a term when they are not yet sure tutoring is the right spend.

  • A stated question and a written answer
  • Cheaper than a term-long commitment
  • Ends with a recommendation, which may be to stop
  • Can run across two subjects with two specialists

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai

01

IB home tutor fees in Dubai: the published bands, by format

Start with what the market actually publishes, because three of the six most visible competitors in this search publish no price at all and two quote in US dollars, a currency Dubai families do not transact in. The figures below are AED, attributed, and were read in October 2026. They describe the market, not IB Gram's rates.

In-home one-to-one sits at roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour. Bestimate's Dubai rate table puts the band at AED 180 to 350, and independent home tutors advertise AED 200 to 500. The spread inside that band is mostly about distance and subject: a maths session for a Year 7 student in a central community is near the bottom, and an HL science session in an outlying villa community in April is near the top. Online qualified subject tutoring sits lower, roughly AED 150 to 300, with Unitors publishing IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200.

Above both, exam-level IB and IGCSE specialists run around AED 200 to 450 and above, which overlaps the in-home band and is the fact most parents find useful: a specialist online hour and a generalist in-home hour can cost the same, and one of them contains forty minutes of driving. At the top, BartyED advertises AED 650 for premium named tutoring. At the bottom, EdFlik lists AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya AED 33 to 52, both online and both typically delivered by undergraduate tutors.

Two notes on using these figures. First, an hourly rate is meaningless without the minimum session length, which is covered further down and frequently doubles the real cost of a booking. Second, a provider quoting below the market floor for specialist DP work is telling you something about who will teach the session. That is not automatically wrong, and for homework supervision it may be exactly right, but it should be a conscious choice rather than a surprise.

Taking a quote apart: the line items that are really in there

A home-tutor quote in Dubai is usually presented as one number per hour, and almost never itemised. That is a problem, because the differences between two quotes sit in the items nobody names. Six of them account for most of the variation, and each one can be asked about in a single message before you commit.

Travel is the largest. A tutor crossing the emirate in evening traffic can lose eighty minutes to a sixty-minute lesson, and no sustainable rate ignores that. Minimum session length is the second, and the most commonly underestimated: a ninety or one-hundred-and-twenty-minute minimum exists so the journey is worth making, and it means a parent who needed forty-five minutes of help pays for twice that. Third is subject and level, which is the only item that reflects teaching value.

Fourth is timing in the academic year. Nobody publishes an exam-season surcharge, but availability tightens from January to April and the discount disappears, which has the same effect on what you pay. Fifth is commitment: packages discount the hourly rate in exchange for prepayment and a notice period, which is a real saving and a real risk. Sixth is the admin layer, covering replacement policy, cancellation terms, materials and reporting. Those should cost nothing extra, and a quote that charges for them separately is worth questioning.

One item that should never appear: the MoHRE private tuition work permit. It is granted free of charge for two years according to u.ae, and MoHRE's own service page lists no fees. If a quote itemises a licensing or registration cost for an individual tutor, ask what it is for, because the permit itself costs nothing.

Travel is the part of a Dubai in-home fee you pay for twice

  • A 60-minute in-home lesson in Dubai can occupy 2-3 hours of a tutor's evening
  • Minimum session lengths exist to reduce journeys per paid hour
  • Your community filters which specialisms are available to you
  • Late arrival in evening traffic quietly shortens the lesson
  • The premium buys physical presence, which some families genuinely need

The geography of this emirate is the single biggest input into in-home pricing, and it is worth being concrete about why. A tutor living in a central community who takes a 17:00 booking in an outlying villa development is committing roughly two and a half hours to deliver sixty minutes of teaching. They can therefore fit two bookings into an evening, sometimes three if the two families live close together. Everything about the in-home rate follows from that arithmetic.

The first way you pay for it is in the hourly rate, which has to cover the unpaid time in the car. The second way is in the minimum session length, which exists to reduce the number of journeys per paid hour. The third, less visible way is in choice: the tutors who can realistically serve your community are the ones who live within range of it, which is a filter on subject specialism that has nothing to do with teaching quality. A family in an outlying community looking for a Chemistry HL specialist is choosing from a far shorter list than the emirate actually contains.

There is also a reliability cost. Dubai evening traffic is variable rather than merely slow, and a tutor who is twenty minutes late has lost a third of a sixty-minute session. Over a term, that attrition is real, and it is one of the reasons families who have used both formats often report that online sessions start on time in a way in-home sessions do not. A session that begins when it is meant to is worth something.

None of this makes in-home tutoring a bad choice. For a younger child who needs an adult physically present, for a household with unreliable connectivity, or for a parent who wants to overhear the lesson, the premium buys something genuine. The point is to know what the premium is for, so that a family paying it is paying for presence rather than for a tutor's commute.

04

In-home against online, with the fee difference itemised

Here is the comparison that matters for a Dubai budget. Take a mid-market quote in each format and look at what the money buys. An in-home hour at AED 300 contains teaching, travel and a minimum-length requirement that may mean booking ninety minutes. An online hour at AED 250 contains teaching, chosen from a tutor pool limited only by timezone, in a session as short or long as the student can use.

The second difference is the tutor. In-home selection is geographic first and subject second, because somebody has to drive. Online selection is subject first: a family in an outlying community can have the Chemistry HL specialist rather than the nearest available science teacher. For common subjects at common levels that distinction matters less. For HL sciences, Maths AA HL Paper 3, Computer Science or a narrow internal assessment question, it is the whole decision.

The third is record. An online session leaves annotated past papers, saved whiteboard working and, on request, a recording. A session at a kitchen table leaves a page of handwriting. For a working parent who cannot sit in on a 19:00 lesson, that written trail is the only oversight available, and it is the reason our session notes are deliberately short enough to read in half a minute.

IB Gram's position, stated plainly: we do not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE, and in-home tutoring is a service we run only in India. We would rather publish that than let a page about home tutor fees imply we will send someone. What we sell for Dubai is one-to-one live video tuition on Gulf Standard Time, with the subject specialist chosen for the component your child is actually losing marks on.

Monthly packages: the discount and what it costs you

Packages are how most of this market is actually sold, and reading one properly takes two minutes. Advertised examples in Dubai include around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions, and AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home sessions. Bestimate's monthly estimates for a weekly one-hour session run AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle, and AED 1,000 to 2,000 and above for specialist exam-year work.

The arithmetic is worth doing. Eight sessions at AED 799 is roughly AED 100 a session, which places the tutor firmly in the budget band and tells you something about who is teaching. Four two-hour in-home sessions at AED 1,699 is about AED 212 an hour, which is near the bottom of the published in-home band and implies either short travel or a generalist tutor. Neither is a criticism; both are information the headline figure hides.

The risk in a package is not the price, it is the expiry and the notice period. Unused hours that lapse at month end convert a discount into a loss during a travel month or an exam week. A notice period longer than two weeks means a mismatch costs you a month. And a package that fixes session length at two hours is poor value for a student whose useful attention runs to seventy minutes, which for most DP students it does.

What to ask, in one message: does the rate hold if we pause for a school holiday, do unused hours roll forward and for how long, what notice do you need to stop, and can we change tutor within the package without restarting it? Reasonable answers to those four turn a package into a genuine saving. Evasive answers are the reason to pay per session until the match is proven.

Two years of Diploma support, costed in context

Most families budget tutoring a month at a time and then get a shock at the two-year total. It is worth modelling the whole Diploma up front, because the shape of the spend is not even: DP1 is cheap and DP2 is expensive, and a family that spends nothing in DP1 usually spends more overall.

Useful context for the numbers: Dubai's private school sector served 387,441 students across 227 private schools offering 17 curricula in 2024-25, with the International Baccalaureate accounting for roughly a fourteenth of enrolment and UK curricula for well over a third. KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there would be no increase in private school fees in the emirate for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total. For 2026-27 the emirate is also adding seven new private schools, four UK curriculum and three International Baccalaureate, creating 16,846 new places.

Against a frozen school fee, a tutoring budget is the variable part of a family's education spend, and that makes sequencing worth planning. One subject at one session a week through DP1, at mid-band online rates, is a modest annual figure. Two subjects at two sessions a week through the final six months of DP2, at specialist rates, is several times that. Families who start earlier at lower intensity generally pay less in total and get a better choice of tutor, because they are not buying in the February-to-April crush.

The table below is a modelling frame rather than a price list. Fill it with the actual rate you are quoted and the actual number of weeks in your school's calendar. The useful output is not the total but the comparison: whether the plan you are about to buy is concentrated in the months where it can still change anything.

Payment terms, receipts and the things worth refusing

Fees are only half of what you agree to. The terms around them decide what a mismatch costs, and in a market where the first tutor is often not the right one, that is the part to read. Four things are worth insisting on and one is worth refusing outright.

Insist on a written rate per hour with the session length stated, because an hourly figure without a minimum is not a price. Insist on a cancellation window you can actually live with, since school events and illness happen in every Dubai term. Insist on a replacement policy at no cost if the subject match is wrong, which is a reasonable ask because the provider chose the tutor. And insist on a receipt that names the service, the hours and the period, which is simply ordinary record-keeping.

Refuse to prepay a long block before a trial lesson has happened. There is no good reason for it and it transfers every risk to the family. A free trial costs a provider one hour and removes the main source of disputes in this market, which is why ours is genuinely free with no card details taken beforehand. The one condition is that it is a single lesson, stated here on the same screen as the word free.

On tax, be careful about what anyone tells you. We will not state the UAE VAT treatment of tuition fees on this page, because doing so responsibly requires a Federal Tax Authority citation and this page does not have one. What you can and should do is ask a provider whether the figure quoted to you is inclusive or exclusive of VAT, and get the answer in writing before the first invoice. A quote that becomes five per cent larger at invoice time is the most avoidable surprise in this market.

Delivery, scheduling and what happens if no specialist is free

Lessons are delivered one-to-one over live video on a shared screen, scheduled around a Dubai school week in Gulf Standard Time. Most sessions land between 16:30 and 20:30, after the school run and activities. During Ramadan many families move to a post-Iftar slot, which is straightforward with notice. Gulf Standard Time sits between South Asia and Europe, which is why a Dubai evening slot can reach a wide pool of IB subject teachers.

Coverage is honest rather than universal. Common subjects at common levels are usually matched within a few days. Narrow combinations take longer, and between February and May they take longer still, because every family in the emirate is looking for the same specialists in the same eight weeks. Computer Science HL and specific HL science components are the requests most likely to run past a week.

Where no UAE-based specialist is free, the match comes from our wider pool of IB subject teachers in other time zones, at a Dubai-friendly hour, with no change to the format or the subject depth. We say so before you commit rather than after, because a disclosed limit costs a family nothing and a concealed one costs them a fortnight. And where we think the spend is wrong, we say that too: a student losing marks to command terms does not need the top of the market.

One last fee point, because it is the one families thank us for. The cheapest hour in a two-year Diploma plan is the one bought in DP1 to frame an Extended Essay research question properly. It takes a few hours, it is paid at a normal rate, and it prevents the much larger spend that follows a coursework crisis in DP2. Early and small beats late and large, in this market more than most.

Where we tutor

What a home visit actually costs to deliver, by Dubai community

In-home fees are partly a map problem. The communities below show why a single hourly rate across the emirate is hard for any provider to sustain, and why most of them quote a minimum session length instead.

Jumeirah Village Circle

Central enough to reach from several directions, but internal road layout adds time on arrival. Commonly quoted with a ninety-minute minimum, which makes the effective cost per useful hour higher than the headline rate.

Discovery Gardens

Dense apartment stock with high demand and short distances to nearby communities, which is why budget-band providers advertise here most heavily. Group sessions are common and priced per student.

International City

Large student population at the value end of the market. A tutor travelling here from a western community may spend longer in the car than in the lesson, which is the whole reason the in-home band starts where it does.

Al Nahda

Close to the Sharjah border, so some families compare Dubai and Sharjah rates directly. Cross-border travel time is the variable that makes those comparisons misleading.

Al Warqa

Villa communities with large cohorts at nearby schools, which supports sibling and small-group arrangements. Two siblings in one session cuts the per-student cost but splits the attention, which is the trade-off to weigh.

Karama

Established, central and well connected, which keeps travel short and the in-home premium smaller than in outlying communities. Demand concentrates on maths and the sciences.

Deira

High density and short internal distances, but congested approach roads at the hours families want. A 16:30 session and a 19:30 session can differ by half an hour of driving in each direction.

Mirdif

Spread-out villa community feeding several schools, where a tutor typically fits two sessions in an evening at most. That scheduling ceiling is a real input into any in-home rate quoted here.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai

Dubai IB schools with the highest Diploma tutoring demand

Fee pressure follows these cohorts, because they generate most DP requests in the emirate and their internal assessment deadlines bunch in the same months. Families here are also the most likely to be quoted at the specialist end of the market.

  • Dubai International Academy Emirates Hills
  • Deira International School
  • GEMS Dubai American Academy
  • Raffles World Academy
  • Jumeirah Baccalaureate School
  • Uptown International School

Dubai schools across the value end of the market

Large cohorts, many families comparing group and sibling arrangements, and heavy advertising from the budget band. The practical risk here is paying a low hourly rate for a session too short or too crowded to change anything.

  • The Millennium School Al Qusais
  • Our Own English High School Al Warqa
  • GEMS Our Own Indian School
  • Delhi Private School Dubai
  • Apple International School
  • The Westminster School

Schools are named only as context for the Dubai market; IB Gram has no affiliation with, endorsement from or partnership with any school or group listed.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the subject, level and the need

Which subject, which level, which component, and what prompted the enquiry. A marked script or an internal assessment brief lets us match accurately and lets the trial lesson start on real material rather than on introductions.

  2. 02

We quote per match, after telling you the band

We tell you which rate band the request sits in and why, before any payment. Where a request is at the specialist end because of scarcity rather than difficulty, we say that, so you can decide whether the timing of the booking is what is costing you.

  3. 03

Free trial lesson, no card details

One full lesson at no cost. Bring marked work. This is where you find out whether the hour is worth its rate, and it happens before any money moves rather than after a month's package has been bought.

  4. 04

Agree rate, length and terms in writing

The AED figure, the session length, the cancellation window, the replacement policy and whether VAT is included. Five lines, agreed before the first invoice, which removes the great majority of billing disputes in this market.

  5. 05

Pay per session until the match is proven

We would rather you did not prepay a block before the fourth session. Once the match is working, a longer commitment can make sense; before that, it transfers the risk of a mismatch entirely to you.

  6. 06

Review the spend, not just the grade

At session four we review whether the hours are being spent on the thing that is actually losing marks. Sometimes the answer is fewer sessions, a shorter session, or a different component. All three are normal outcomes and all three cost less.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Every figure is attributed and dated

Each AED band on this page is another provider's published rate with the provider named and the month it was read. We do not present market bands as our own prices, and we do not publish invented averages for a market nobody has surveyed.

No travel inside the hour

Lessons run over live video, so the whole session is teaching. IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE, which is why we can match on subject rather than on which tutor lives nearest your community.

Session length set by the student

Because nobody is driving, there is no minimum booking designed to make a journey worthwhile. A DP student who uses seventy minutes well books seventy minutes rather than paying for a two-hour slot.

A free trial with the condition stated

One full lesson, no payment, no card details, and the condition named on the same screen as the offer. You test the match before anything is bought, which is where most of this market's disputes come from.

Terms written down before invoicing

Rate, session length, cancellation, replacement and the VAT position, agreed in writing. We do not state the UAE VAT treatment of tuition as a fact, because that needs a Federal Tax Authority citation we do not have.

We will tell you to spend less

If the marks are being lost to command terms or absent working, a mid-band specialist fixes it and a premium rate buys nothing extra. Saying so costs us revenue and is the advice we would want ourselves.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

How much do IB home tutor fees in Dubai come to per month?+

Published monthly figures give a usable range. Advertised packages in the emirate include around AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home sessions, and about AED 799 a month for eight online sessions. Bestimate's monthly estimates for a weekly one-hour session run AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle and AED 1,000 to 2,000 and above for specialist exam-year work. Convert any package to a cost per hour before comparing, because the implied hourly figure tells you which band of tutor is actually teaching the session.

What is included in a Dubai home tutor's hourly fee?+

Six things, usually unnamed: the teaching itself, the tutor's travel time and fuel, the minimum session length that makes the journey worthwhile, the subject and level premium, the timing in the academic year, and an administrative layer covering replacement and cancellation. Travel is the largest hidden component in a city this spread out, since a sixty-minute lesson in an outlying community can occupy two and a half hours of a tutor's evening. Ask how far the tutor is travelling and what the shortest bookable session is; those two answers explain most of the difference between quotes.

Why do home tutors in Dubai insist on a minimum session length?+

Because the journey is the fixed cost. A tutor who drives thirty to forty minutes each way cannot make a forty-five-minute booking viable, so a ninety or one-hundred-and-twenty-minute minimum reduces the number of journeys per paid hour. The consequence for a family is that the real cost of a short need can double: a student who required forty-five minutes of help pays for twice that. Online sessions have no journey, so length can be set by what the student can actually use, which for most Diploma students is between sixty and ninety minutes of focused work.

Do home tutor fees differ between one Dubai community and another?+

In practice yes, although few providers publish it that way. Distance and evening traffic set how many bookings a tutor can fit into a night, so outlying villa communities attract longer minimum sessions or a higher effective rate than central, well-connected areas. The second, less visible effect is on choice: the specialists willing to travel to your community are a subset of the emirate's tutors, which filters availability by geography rather than by teaching quality. Online delivery removes both effects, which is the main reason families in outlying communities move to it.

Are IB tutor fees in Dubai quoted per hour or per session?+

Both are used, and the mismatch is where confusion starts. An hourly rate without a stated minimum is not a usable price, because a quote of AED 250 an hour with a two-hour minimum is a AED 500 booking. Always ask for the figure and the number of minutes together, in writing. Where a provider sells monthly packages, divide the package by the hours included to get the implied hourly cost, then compare that against the published bands. That one calculation reveals more about what you are buying than any description of a tutor's background.

Should I prepay a tutoring package before the first lesson?+

We would advise against it, and not only because we offer a free trial. Prepayment before a lesson has happened transfers every risk of a bad match to the family, and in this market the first tutor is often not the right one. Pay per session until the fourth session, by which point you can see whether technique is moving. If you then want a package, ask four questions first: do unused hours roll forward and for how long, what notice is needed to stop, does the rate hold through school holidays, and can the tutor be changed without restarting the package.

Do IB tutoring fees in Dubai rise before the May examination session?+

Published rate cards rarely change, but the effect is the same. Demand across the emirate concentrates between January and April, so discounts disappear, preferred slots fill, and the specialists who were available in October are not. Families competing for the same eight weeks end up paying the top of a band for a tutor they could have had mid-band six months earlier. The practical response is to book the subject specialist in DP1 or early DP2 at lower intensity, which costs less per hour overall and gives a genuine choice of tutor rather than whoever is left.

Is VAT included in a Dubai tutoring quote?+

Ask, and get the answer in writing before the first invoice. We will not state the UAE VAT treatment of tuition fees on this page, because stating it responsibly requires a Federal Tax Authority citation that this page does not carry, and a confident wrong answer would be worse than none. What matters practically is whether the figure you were quoted is inclusive or exclusive, since a quote that grows at invoice time is the most avoidable billing surprise in this market. A provider who cannot answer that question clearly is telling you something about their record-keeping.

What does supporting an IB Diploma student in Dubai cost over two years?+

It depends almost entirely on sequencing rather than on rate. One subject weekly through DP1 at online qualified rates of AED 150 to 300, plus a short capped block to frame the Extended Essay question, is a modest annual figure. Two subjects at two sessions a week through the final six months of DP2 at specialist rates of AED 200 to 450 and above is several times larger. Families who start earlier at lower intensity usually spend less in total and get a better choice of tutor, because they are not buying in the February-to-April crush when the whole emirate is looking.

Does a tutor's UAE permit add anything to the fee?+

It should not. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, and u.ae states that it is granted free of charge for two years. MoHRE's own service page for it lists no fees and gives a two-working-day completion time through the smart app, website and e-services system. So a quote that itemises a licensing or registration charge for an individual tutor deserves a question about what the charge actually covers. Asking to see the permit is reasonable and costs the tutor nothing, since holding it costs them nothing.

What should a tutoring cancellation policy say?+

It should name a notice period you can realistically meet inside a Dubai school term, where concerts, sports fixtures, travel and illness are routine rather than exceptional. Twenty-four hours is common and workable; same-day forfeit with no flexibility is not, and a vague policy is worse than a strict one because it gets interpreted after the dispute. Ask also what happens to a session the tutor cancels, and whether a missed session inside a package is lost or rescheduled. Those two answers tell you whether the terms were written for the family or only for the provider.

Why does online IB tutoring cost less than a home visit in Dubai?+

Because nobody is driving. The published in-home band of roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour has to absorb twenty to forty minutes of travel each way plus the fuel, and that is before the minimum session length that exists to make the journey worthwhile. An online hour carries none of that, so a larger share of the fee is teaching. The second effect is on choice: online matching is done on subject and level rather than on who lives within range, which for HL sciences or a narrow component is the difference between a specialist and the nearest available generalist.

Can two siblings share one session to reduce the fee?+

It can work, with a caveat worth taking seriously. Where two children are at genuinely similar levels in the same subject, one session split two ways halves the cost per child and the shared work can help both. Where the levels differ, the session becomes two half-lessons and each child gets less than they would from a shorter individual session. Our usual suggestion is to run the siblings separately but back-to-back, which keeps the attention undivided and still solves the scheduling problem that makes families ask in the first place.

What costs tend to appear after the first tutoring invoice?+

Four recur. A VAT line that was not mentioned in the quote. A minimum session length applied to a booking the parent thought was hourly. Materials or reporting charged separately, which should normally be included. And package hours that lapsed at month end during a travel week or a school holiday. All four are avoidable by agreeing five lines in writing beforehand: the AED figure, the number of minutes, the cancellation window, the replacement policy and the VAT position. That takes one message and removes almost every billing dispute we hear about.

How do Dubai school fees compare with a year of IB tutoring?+

Tutoring is the variable part of an education budget whose fixed part is currently steady: KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that private school fees in the emirate would not increase for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total. Against a frozen fee, a weekly mid-band online session across a school year is a modest addition, while two specialist subjects at two sessions a week through a final exam run is a much larger one. Modelling the whole two years before committing is what prevents the second scenario arriving unplanned.

Price the hour, then price what is inside it

If you are comparing IB home tutor fees in Dubai, ask every provider for three numbers rather than one: the AED rate, the minimum session length, and what happens to the fee if the match is wrong. Those three reveal more than any description of a tutor's background. IB Gram delivers one-to-one tuition over live video on Gulf Standard Time, with no travel inside the hour, no minimum designed around a journey and no home visits anywhere in the UAE, since in-home tutoring is a service we run only in India. Send us the subject, the level and the component, and we will tell you which band the request sits in and why before anything is paid.
