IB DP Home Tutor in Dubai

Families searching for an IB DP home tutor in Dubai are usually solving two problems at once: a Diploma subject that has stopped moving, and an evening with no spare time in it. This page takes the Diploma apart properly, group by group and component by component, says where DP2 students lose marks, and compares in-home visiting against one-to-one online on the dimensions that matter in this emirate. IB Gram delivers one-to-one over live video and does not offer home visits in the UAE; the first lesson is free for one student per family.

  • The six subject groups and the core, each with its own failure mode
  • DP1 and DP2 mapped term by term, with the decision at each stage
  • In-home against online compared on eight dimensions, not on preference
  • One free trial lesson per student, no card details collected

IB & IGCSE in Dubai

Two problems in one search

The phrase a parent types usually encodes a logistical problem as well as an academic one. The academic part is a Diploma subject that has stopped responding to effort, or an internally assessed component drifting towards a deadline. The logistical part is that a Grade 12 timetable in Dubai leaves almost nothing spare, and adding a journey to the evening feels impossible. Home tutoring reads like the answer to both at once, which is why the search exists.

The academic problem deserves the longer answer, because the Diploma fails in specific places and generic tutoring misses them. Six subjects across the groups, normally three at Higher Level and three at Standard, graded 1 to 7 on a 45-point total, with internally assessed work in every subject and three core components running alongside. That is nine or ten separate deadlines competing for the same evenings, and a DP2 student in trouble is very often not short of understanding. They are short of sequence.

The logistical problem has a cleaner solution than most families expect. The reason a home visit appeals is that it removes the student's journey, and online one-to-one removes it too, while also removing the tutor's journey. In Dubai that second removal matters more than it sounds, because a late-afternoon crossing consumes most of another session in each direction, and that time is inside every published in-home rate whether a provider itemises it or not.

There is a harder consequence of the drive, and it decides more than the money. A visiting tutor has to be someone who can physically reach your community at the hour your child is free, which means the pool is set by geography rather than by subject. For mainstream Standard Level subjects in central Dubai that pool is deep enough not to matter. For Higher Level Chemistry in Al Furjan, or Design Technology anywhere, it frequently contains nobody suitable at any hourly rate. That is the part of the in-home trade nobody prices, because it does not show up as a cost. It shows up as a competent generalist teaching a Higher Level course they have never marked, and at Diploma level the marked work makes that visible inside a fortnight.

So the honest position is stated up front rather than buried. IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE, in Dubai or any other emirate; home visiting is a service we run only in India. Diploma support for UAE families is delivered one student with one tutor over live video, with the student writing on a shared whiteboard the tutor annotates. Dirham figures on this page are market rates with the publisher named, and the single commitment made is a free first lesson, one per student and one student per family, with no card details collected.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

This page is about the Diploma, but two of the three IB programmes feed into it and the handover is where a lot of Dubai students come unstuck. Here are the three, with what each hands on to the next and where the join tends to break.

DPAges 16-19 · Grades 11-12

Diploma Programme

Six subjects selected across the groups, normally three Higher Level and three Standard Level, each graded 1 to 7, with internally assessed work in every subject. Alongside them sit Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS, and a small number of points come from the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge combination. The award conditions attached to the core and to individual grades are set out by the school's Diploma coordinator, who is the person to ask.

Dubai Diploma cohorts sit the May session, and each school runs its own internal deadlines for drafts and uploads well ahead of it. Those internal dates, not the examination window, are what actually constrain a Grade 12 student's time, and the first question any Dubai Diploma plan should answer is which school's calendar applies. New Diploma provision is also expanding here, with three of the seven schools opening for the 2026-27 intake offering the IB.

MYPAges 11-16 · Grades 6-10

Middle Years Programme

Four lettered criteria per subject, each out of 8, converted to a 1-7 grade by the school, with the Personal Project in the final year. Students arrive in the Diploma from here with good research habits, familiarity with criterion language and, frequently, less content than students coming from IGCSE. The gap that bites is depth in the sciences and algebraic fluency, both of which are cheap to fix in the first Diploma term.

Several Dubai continuum schools run the Middle Years Programme to Grade 10 and then offer a choice between the Diploma and a British route, which means the decision and the grade problem often arrive together for a Grade 10 family. An honest read on whether Higher Level will be viable is worth more at that point than a term of general support.

PYPAges 3-12 · FS1 to Grade 5

Primary Years Programme

Transdisciplinary inquiry with no external examination, ending in the PYP Exhibition. Relevant to a Diploma page only because the habits built here, particularly written explanation and the expectation of justifying a method, are the ones the Diploma later rewards heavily. Dubai families who move into the IB later frequently find that is the part their child has not been asked for before.

Dubai's primary IB cohort is large and highly mobile. For families planning a long run through to the Diploma in this emirate, the practical thing to know is that KHDA's mandatory Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies provision begins in these years and continues alongside whatever international curriculum the school is licensed for.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Diploma subjects by group, with the component that decides the grade in each and the thing a DP2 student most often has not been taught explicitly. These are the subjects Dubai families most frequently request at Diploma level.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Group five, and the subject most likely to be the reason a Diploma total is lower than expected. At Higher Level the marks go on working presented out of the order the mark scheme credits, on proof structure and on calculus set up well then executed carelessly. The exploration needs genuine mathematics applied to something the student chose, and vague aims cap it early.

Physics

HL and SL

Group four. Long answers need a sequence most students have never been shown: define, state the relationship, substitute, evaluate. Unit and significant-figure discipline leaks marks across every paper. The internal investigation stands or falls on a measurable, controllable research question, which is usually worth a session of its own in DP1.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Group four. Energetics, equilibrium and organic mechanisms carry most Higher Level losses. One unfamiliar mechanism tells you whether the student understands electron behaviour or has memorised arrows, and if it is the latter, bonding has to be rebuilt before any past paper work is worth doing.

Biology

HL and SL

Group four, and marked far more precisely than it looks. Command terms separate a 4 from a 6, and a student who writes everything they know lands in the middle every time. The statistical treatment in the investigation is where internally assessed marks are most often left unclaimed.

Economics

HL and SL

Group three. Diagram accuracy and the final evaluation sentence carry marks students concede without noticing, and Higher Level adds quantitative work rewarding arithmetic care. The internally assessed commentaries need article selection supervised early, because an article too broad or too old cannot support the required diagram and theory.

Business Management

HL and SL

Group three. Theories must be applied to the stimulus rather than recited, and the pre-released Higher Level case study rewards structured preparation across months rather than an intensive before the paper. Ratio and investment appraisal work is where careless candidates concede the easiest marks available.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Group one. The unseen non-literary paper rewards an explicit analytical method, and most students have never been given one. The individual oral needs a global issue narrow enough to defend with two supporting extracts. Higher Level adds an essay on a studied work, which is where planning discipline shows.

English B

HL and SL

Group two. Productive skills decide the grade and students over-prepare receptive ones. The written task is marked on message, language and conceptual understanding of audience and purpose. Weekly corrected speaking practice is the single fastest-moving component in the subject and the hardest to get in a group.

Arabic B and Arabic ab initio

HL, SL and ab initio

Group two, and in Dubai the subject with the widest spread of starting points in any classroom, from household fluency with weak script to no prior exposure. Support has to be matched to the actual starting point rather than the course title, which is why individual work is usually the only format that functions here.

Psychology

HL and SL

Group three. Studies must be used as evidence for an argument rather than listed, and research methods vocabulary is examined directly. The experimental study rewards a simple replicable design over an ambitious one, and ethical commentary carries marks students routinely skip.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways Diploma support is arranged here, all one student with one tutor over live video. The Diploma's constraint is time rather than money for most Dubai families, so the choice between these is usually a question of which deadline is closest.

Weekly subject slot with marking

One Diploma subject, one tutor, a protected weekly slot in Gulf Standard Time, with the student's own written work marked against the published criteria and the teaching drawn from the marking. This is the arrangement that moves a subject grade across DP1 and the autumn of DP2, and it is the one that produces comparable evidence every week.

  • Lost marks sorted by category rather than by topic
  • A written note after each session naming the costliest error class
  • Whole papers under timed conditions as the series approaches
  • A four-session review that can end the arrangement cleanly

Internally assessed component block

A fixed run of sessions on one component: an exploration, an investigation, a set of commentaries, the Extended Essay or the Theory of Knowledge essay. Scheduled backwards from the school's own draft deadlines rather than the examination window, because the internal calendar is what actually binds a Grade 12 student.

  • Research question narrowed until it is answerable in the allowance
  • Criteria explained in the criteria's own language
  • A dated feedback log the student can show a supervisor
  • The student writes every word that is submitted

DP2 triage

For families arriving late with several things wrong at once. Two or three sessions that produce a written ranking: which subject has the most recoverable marks, which component is nearest to irrecoverable, what the realistic sequence is for the remaining weeks. It is advice rather than teaching, and sometimes the advice is to drop an ambition rather than add hours.

  • Every outstanding component listed with its real deadline
  • Subjects ranked by recoverable marks per hour of work
  • An explicit statement of what cannot now be fixed
  • No commitment to further sessions attached

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai

01

In-home against online for a Diploma student in Dubai

The home-tutoring question deserves a straight answer rather than a redirect. In-home one-to-one in Dubai is published across sources in the AED 180 to 500 per hour range, with Bestimate's 2026 table at 180 to 350 and some home tutors quoted up to 500, and monthly in-home packages appearing at AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour sessions. For a family that wants a person in the room, those are the real numbers and they are not unreasonable for what they involve.

What the premium pays for is travel, and in this city travel is expensive in a specific way. A tutor crossing Dubai in the late afternoon gives up most of another session in each direction, which is why the in-home band sits above the online band for identical expertise. The cost is real rather than invented, and it is also why in-home sessions tend to be longer and later than a tired Grade 12 student can use well.

The dimension that matters more, though, is the pool. A visiting tutor must live or work within reach of your community at the hour your child is free. For Standard Level mathematics in Al Barsha that constraint is harmless. For Higher Level Chemistry in Al Furjan, or Design Technology or Music anywhere in the emirate, it often means the available visiting tutor is a competent generalist rather than a subject specialist, and at Diploma level that difference shows up in the marking within a fortnight.

IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE; home visiting is a service we run only in India. Diploma support here is one student with one tutor over live video. The table below sets the two formats against each other on eight dimensions rather than asserting that one wins, because for some families and some subjects the visiting option is genuinely the better fit.

02

The Diploma's six groups, and where each one loses marks

A Diploma total is built from six subject grades plus core points, and families chasing a number often do not know which group is costing them. Setting out the groups properly makes the diagnosis possible: a student at 32 points with two Higher Level sciences at 4 has a different problem from a student at 32 with a 3 in a group two language, and they need different purchases.

The pattern across groups is consistent enough to use. Group one and group three lose marks on argument and judgement: evidence assembled without a conclusion. Group four loses them on precision and on investigation design. Group five loses them on presentation of working and on interpretation. Group two loses them almost entirely on productive skills, which is the hardest thing to practise in any group setting. Group six loses them in the written components students did not expect to matter.

Choosing which subject to support first is therefore an arithmetic question rather than a sentimental one. Recoverable marks per hour of work is the right measure, and it usually points at a subject where the student is at 4 or 5 with a technique problem rather than at the subject they dislike most. A tutor who cannot help a family make that ranking is not giving the most valuable advice available.

The table names each group, what it covers, the choices Dubai students commonly make within it, and the dominant failure mode. Use it to work out which single subject is worth starting with, rather than spreading a budget across three.

03

DP1 and DP2, stage by stage, with the decision at each point

The Diploma is two years with a very uneven distribution of pressure, and families who plan it as a steady run are surprised twice: once in the autumn of the second year when the internally assessed components all arrive together, and again in the final term when there is no slack left. Mapping the stages makes the pressure visible early enough to do something about it.

No specific dates appear here, deliberately. The IB's own site blocks automated checking, so nothing on this page has been confirmed from the primary source, and an unverified date inside a revision plan is worse than no date. Every deadline that matters is either set by your child's school or published by the IB, and the Diploma coordinator is the person who can confirm both. What can be planned without dates is the sequence, which is what the table does.

The useful habit is to treat each stage as ending in a decision rather than a date. Does the Higher Level choice still look right. Is the research question answerable. Has the error class identified in the autumn actually moved. Is the Extended Essay going to be finished on the school's timetable or on an optimistic one. Each of those decisions is cheap to make early and expensive to make late.

For a family buying support, the stage table also indicates when to spend. The autumn of DP1 is the cheapest point per mark because there is time for a changed habit to settle. The autumn of DP2 is the busiest and the most consequential. The final term is for timed marked papers and nothing else, because new content learned there has no time to become reliable.

04

Internally assessed work in six subjects at once

The single most underestimated feature of the Diploma is that every subject carries an internally assessed component, and they do not arrive politely spaced. In the autumn of the second year a Dubai student can be holding a mathematics exploration, a science investigation, two commentaries, a language written task and an Extended Essay, all with school deadlines inside a few weeks of each other. Nothing in Grade 10 prepares a student for that load.

The failures are almost never about subject knowledge. They are about scope: a research question too broad to answer inside the allowance, data collected that cannot support the analysis required, an article chosen that does not permit the required diagram, a topic approved in principle and never narrowed. Each of those is a half-hour conversation in DP1 and a crisis in DP2, which is why the most valuable supervision happens embarrassingly early.

The second failure mode is criteria. Students write good work that does not address what the lettered criteria ask for, and lose bands on strands nobody pointed at. Criterion-led feedback fixes this directly: name the criterion, quote the descriptor's language, point at the place in the student's own text where it is not yet satisfied, and ask the question the criterion asks. The letters and their mark allocations have to be read from the current subject guide, which your school holds.

The boundary is firm and worth repeating on a Diploma page. A tutor may explain criteria, mark a draft the student has written, teach the method or statistics required, ask the questions the criteria ask and hold a schedule. A tutor may not supply sentences, restructure a draft on the student's behalf, hand over a research question, or edit work into a higher band. Operations in this market sell completed internally assessed work; a student submitting it faces an academic honesty investigation reaching beyond one subject grade.

05

The core: Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge and CAS

The core is where Diploma plans most often fail, partly because it carries fewer points than the six subjects and therefore gets deprioritised, and partly because it is nobody's subject. A student with a strong Higher Level profile and an unfinished Extended Essay is in more trouble than the point weighting suggests, because core requirements attach to the award itself in ways the Diploma coordinator will explain.

The Extended Essay fails on scope and on process rather than on writing ability. A question too broad cannot be answered in the allowance, and a question answerable from a single source is not a research question. The reflections are assessed, which students discover late. The most valuable supervision in the whole Diploma is the conversation that narrows the question in DP1, and it is usually the cheapest half-hour a family will buy.

Theory of Knowledge fails differently. Students treat it as opinion writing and lose marks for not engaging with knowledge questions precisely, or they over-engineer it and lose clarity. The essay is written to prescribed titles and the exhibition requires specific objects and justifications. A tutor's job here is to make the student's own thinking sharper, which means asking questions and declining to supply answers.

CAS derails Grade 12 more than anyone expects, because it is the component with no mark and therefore no urgency until the deadline. The requirements are experiential and reflective, and they cannot be compressed honestly into a final fortnight. Nothing a tutor does helps here except reminding a student in DP1 that the thing with no grade attached is still a condition. The table sets out the three core components, who supervises each and what support may legitimately do.

THE THREE CORE COMPONENTS AND THE LIMITS OF SUPPORT
ComponentWhat it isWho supervises itWhat a tutor may legitimately doThe commonest failure

06

The DP2 technique gap, and why effort stops working

A recurring pattern in Dubai Diploma cohorts is a student who worked hard in DP1, saw grades move, then plateaued in DP2 despite working harder. Families read this as a motivation problem or a difficulty spike. It is usually neither. It is the point at which content knowledge stops being the binding constraint and technique becomes it, and effort applied to content no longer produces a return.

The symptom is specific and easy to check. The student can explain the topic out loud, correctly and in detail, and still scores 4 or 5 on the paper. That combination means the marks are going on the structure of written answers: the wrong command term answered, a procedure performed without interpretation, an argument assembled without a judgement. None of those improves by revising the content again.

Fixing it needs marked work rather than explanation. Lost marks get sorted into categories, counted across several papers, and the biggest category gets drilled using the student's own answers. That work is dull, which is why students avoid it unsupervised, and it is also the fastest-moving intervention available in the second year. Six weeks of it on one subject typically changes more than a term of content revision.

There is one more cause worth naming because it is common and fixable. Timing. A student who runs out of paper time concedes whole questions, and that looks exactly like weakness in the final topics. Checking time per mark across a full paper separates the two in a single ninety-minute session, which is one of the few genuinely good uses of a longer slot.

07

Why families want someone in the room, and when they are right

It would be dishonest to treat the preference for a visiting tutor as merely a misunderstanding. Some students work materially better with a person physically present. A student who disengages the moment a screen is involved, a student with attention difficulties for whom the room itself is part of the structure, a younger sibling in the same household who needs supervision rather than teaching: these are real cases and the market serves them for real reasons.

What a family should do is separate the preference from the assumption. The assumption is that presence improves teaching quality. For one-to-one work the evidence that matters is what gets marked, and marking happens on a shared whiteboard the same way it happens on paper, with both parties watching the pen move. The preference is about engagement and structure rather than about pedagogy, and it should be weighed as such.

Where the preference is strong and the subject is mainstream, a visiting arrangement in Dubai is a reasonable purchase at published rates, and the honest advice is to ask the same verification questions of a visiting tutor: whether they hold the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation private tuition work permit, whether marking of the student's own work is included in the hour, and what written record you will receive.

Where the subject is a minority Higher Level option, the preference usually cannot be satisfied without sacrificing the match. That is the trade to be explicit about. IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE, so for families who need presence in the room we are not the right provider, and saying so is more useful than persuading them otherwise.

08

Predicted grades, applications and what a Dubai Diploma candidate needs

Predicted grades are set by the school from its own internal evidence, and the evidence weighting differs across Dubai schools more than families expect. One leans on a single mock, another on a rolling average, another on the most recent internally assessed component. Knowing which applies decides what support should be aimed at, because improving something that is not being measured does not move the prediction.

The right question to the school is not what the prediction is but what it was calculated from. If it is the mock, the autumn plan writes itself. If it is continuous assessment, an intensive block before one paper will not help. A tutor's useful contribution is producing comparable evidence on the same terms: papers sat to time, marked against the published criteria, dated and tracked. That is material for a factual conversation, not a challenge to the school's judgement.

For students applying to UAE universities, there is a separate documentation question that sits outside tutoring entirely. Certificate equivalency is handled by the Ministry of Education and the relevant attestation authority, and the published British-track requirements are clear while no IB points threshold appears in the sources behind this page. Check any figure you are given directly with the Ministry or the emirate authority, and treat a provider that offers to handle or guarantee the process with suspicion.

One thing worth stating plainly: tutoring is not a requirement for equivalency, for university admission or for progression. Any provider implying otherwise is manufacturing urgency around a regulatory process, which is one of the clearer warning signs available in this market.

09

Starting late in DP2, and the honest limits

A good proportion of Diploma enquiries in Dubai arrive in the second year with several things wrong at once, and the useful response is triage rather than enthusiasm. List every outstanding component with its real school deadline. Rank the subjects by recoverable marks per hour of work. Name explicitly what cannot now be fixed. That document is worth more than the first month of teaching and it takes two or three sessions to produce.

What late support can realistically do is specific: exam technique, reduction of one or two error classes, timing under pressure, and tidying an internally assessed component that is behind but not lost. What it cannot do is replace eighteen months of missing content, and a provider who implies otherwise is selling hope. If a family comes to us late, we say what the remaining weeks can achieve and let them decide with that in front of them.

Some problems are not academic and will not respond to any amount of Diploma teaching. A Grade 12 student with three overdue components and five hours of sleep a night has a workload and wellbeing problem. The first conversation on every match asks what else is happening precisely so that gets identified before money is spent, and sometimes it ends in a recommendation not to buy tutoring at all.

What happens next is short. Send the subjects, the levels, the school and a recent piece of marked work, plus a list of anything outstanding. We come back with a named tutor, a proposed session length and a slot in Gulf Standard Time, usually within two working days. The first lesson is free for one student per family with no card details taken. Sessions are one-to-one over live video; we do not offer home visits in the UAE, and anyone promising a tutor at a Dubai address is describing a different arrangement from ours.

Where we tutor

Dubai communities, and what a Diploma evening looks like in each

The Diploma's problem in Dubai is time, and time is local. These are the communities where Diploma enquiries concentrate, with what the commute, the school and the local provision do to a Grade 11 or 12 evening. Sessions reach all of them identically over live video.

Arabian Ranches and the Meadows

Large established Diploma cohorts and long afternoon drives. A visiting tutor arriving here at half past five has usually given up the earlier slot to get across the city, which is why in-home sessions in this belt start later and cost more than the same expertise online.

Emirates Hills and Al Barsha South

Dense Diploma provision within a short radius, so group and school revision options genuinely exist for mainstream subjects. Families here are often choosing between a school revision class and individual marking, and the right answer depends on whether the error class has been identified.

Mirdif, Nad Al Sheba and Al Warqa

Continuum schools running the Diploma at the end of a long programme, with parents commuting back from the Creek side. Usable Diploma slots here are often after seven, which is exactly when a visiting arrangement is most expensive and least reliable.

Dubai Marina, JLT and Palm Jumeirah

High turnover produces mid-year arrivals part way through DP1, where the first job is mapping actual coverage against the subject guide rather than teaching. Apartment living also means a quiet room is scarcer than an hour, so shorter sessions work better.

Dubai Hills Estate and Tilal Al Ghaf

Newer provision including first Diploma cohorts at recently opened schools. A first cohort is unproven rather than weak, and this is the cluster where an external second reader on internally assessed work is most often wanted by Grade 12 families.

Al Furjan, JVC and Dubai South

The part of the emirate where minority Higher Level subjects have no local tutor at any price. Families here are not choosing between formats; they are choosing between an online subject specialist and nobody, which is the clearest case online delivery has.

Jumeirah, Al Safa and Umm Suqeim

A mix of Diploma and British provision on adjacent streets, which produces students switching routes late. Honest advice about what content transfers between the Diploma and A Levels is worth more here than extra hours in a subject that may be dropped.

Dubai Festival City and Creek Harbour

Creek-side Diploma schools with a commute that shapes the whole evening. A 17:30 online slot holds here where an in-person session would be pushed into the hours a Grade 12 student needs for their own internally assessed work.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai

Long-established Diploma schools

Settled teaching teams where the content is generally taught well and the marks are lost in technique and in core management. Diploma support from these schools is mostly marking, command-term work and deadline discipline rather than content delivery.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

    List every outstanding component first

Before choosing a subject, write down every internally assessed component, the Extended Essay, the Theory of Knowledge essay and CAS, each with the school's own deadline. Most Diploma crises in Dubai are calendar collisions rather than subject weaknesses, and the list usually reorders a family's priorities within ten minutes.

  2. 02

Rank subjects by recoverable marks per hour

Not by which subject feels worst. A subject at 4 or 5 with a technique problem usually yields more marks per hour than a subject at 3 with a content gap. Send the grades and we will give you the ranking in writing, including the case where the honest answer is to support only one.

  3. 03

Send marked work and the school name

The marked script replaces a week of diagnosis with five minutes of reading. The school name matters because internal deadlines differ across Dubai, and a plan built on the wrong calendar collapses in October. Both together let a first session start on the real problem.

  4. 04

Use the free session on the hardest component

One free trial lesson per student, one student per family, no card details collected. Spend it on the thing you are most worried about rather than on an easy demonstration, and judge the written note afterwards: it should name a category of error and a next task, not describe the lesson.

  5. 05

Review at four sessions, with the deadlines in view

You get a written continue, change or stop recommendation against the deadline list you started with. In DP2 that review matters more than in any other year, because a month spent on the wrong subject is a month that cannot be recovered before the May session.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The home-tutoring question answered, not deflected

Published in-home rates for Dubai, what the travel premium actually pays for, and an eight-dimension comparison including the cases where a visiting tutor is the better choice. We do not offer home visits in the UAE and say so plainly rather than redirecting the search.

The Diploma taken apart properly

Six groups with their dominant failure modes, the three core components with the limits of what support may do, and the two years mapped as stages with a decision at the end of each. Almost nothing competing for this search names a single criterion or a single core condition.

Marking rather than explanation

DP2 marks are lost in the structure of written answers, which means the work is sorting lost marks into categories and drilling the biggest one. That is dull, measurable and the fastest-moving intervention available in the second year.

Triage offered before teaching

For families arriving late, two or three sessions that produce a written ranking and an explicit statement of what cannot now be fixed, with no commitment attached. It costs us teaching hours and it is the most useful thing available at that point.

No dates we cannot verify

The IB's own site blocks automated checking, so no IB session or results date appears here. The page plans in sequences instead and names the Diploma coordinator as the person who confirms every deadline, which is more useful than a confident figure that may be wrong.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

Can I get a tutor to come to our Dubai home for IB Diploma subjects?+

Not through IB Gram. We do not offer home visits in the UAE; home visiting is a service we run only in India, and Diploma support for UAE families is delivered one student with one tutor over live video. The Dubai market does serve this, with published in-home one-to-one rates across sources running roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour and monthly packages at AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour sessions. If presence in the room is essential for your child, those are the real numbers and we are not the right provider.

Why is in-home Diploma tutoring more expensive in Dubai than online?+

Because a tutor crossing the city in the late afternoon gives up most of another session in each direction, and that lost time sits inside the hourly figure whether it is itemised or not. The second cost is less visible and matters more: the pool narrows to whoever can physically reach your community at the hour your child is free. For Standard Level mathematics in a central community that is harmless. For Higher Level Chemistry or a minority subject in an outer community it frequently means a generalist rather than a specialist.

Which Diploma subject should we support first if we can only fund one?+

Rank by recoverable marks per hour of work rather than by which subject feels worst. A subject sitting at 4 or 5 where the student can explain the content but loses marks on answer structure usually yields the most, because technique responds quickly to marking. A subject at 3 with a genuine content gap takes far longer. Send the grades and a marked script from each and we will put the ranking in writing, including the case where the honest answer is one subject rather than two.

My DP2 child works harder than ever and the grades have stopped moving. Why?+

Usually because content knowledge has stopped being the binding constraint and technique has become it, so effort applied to revision no longer returns anything. The diagnostic is specific: if the student can explain the topic out loud correctly and still scores 4 or 5, the marks are going on the structure of written answers rather than on knowledge. Fixing it means sorting lost marks into categories across several papers and drilling the biggest one, which is dull work and the fastest-moving intervention available in the second year.

How do six internally assessed components fit into one autumn?+

Badly, unless they were scoped in the first year. In the autumn of DP2 a Dubai student can be holding a mathematics exploration, a science investigation, two commentaries, a language written task and an Extended Essay with school deadlines weeks apart. The failures are almost never knowledge failures; they are scope failures, where a research question is too broad or the data collected cannot support the required analysis. Each is a half-hour conversation in the first year and a crisis in the second.

What can a tutor legitimately do with my child's Extended Essay?+

Narrow the research question by asking questions until the student narrows it themselves, explain what each criterion asks for in its own language, read a draft the student has written and say which criterion is unmet and why, teach the method the work requires, and hold the schedule. What a tutor must not do is supply sentences, restructure the draft, hand over a research question or edit the work into a higher band. Your school's own rules on how many drafts may be commented on take precedence.

Does CAS really matter if my child's subject grades are strong?+

Yes, and it is the component that derails Grade 12 most often precisely because it carries no mark. The requirements are experiential and reflective across the two years and they cannot be honestly compressed into a final fortnight. A student with a strong Higher Level profile and unfinished core is in more trouble than the point weighting suggests, because conditions attach to the award itself. Your school's CAS coordinator is the person who can confirm exactly what remains outstanding and by when.

Why does this page refuse to publish the next IB session dates?+

No, and the reason is worth knowing. The IB's own site blocks automated checking, so no IB session or results date on this page has been confirmed from the primary source, and an unverified date inside a revision plan is worse than no date at all. Dubai schools sit the May session. Every deadline that actually constrains your child, including draft dates and upload deadlines, is set by the school rather than the board, so the Diploma coordinator is the right person to confirm both.

How is my child's predicted grade worked out at a Dubai IB school?+

From the school's own internal evidence, and the weighting differs between schools more than families expect. One leans heavily on a single mock, another on a rolling average of class assessments, another on the most recent internally assessed component. Ask what the prediction was calculated from rather than arguing with the number, because that answer tells you which lever is worth pulling. A tutor can produce comparable evidence on the same terms, which makes the conversation factual rather than an exchange of impressions.

Is it worth starting Diploma support in the final term before exams?+

For a narrow set of work, yes. Timed papers marked against the published criteria, reduction of one or two error classes, timing under pressure and tidying a component that is behind but not lost. What it cannot do is replace eighteen months of missing content, and anyone implying otherwise is selling hope. The useful first step for a late start is triage: list every outstanding component with its school deadline, rank subjects by recoverable marks, and state explicitly what cannot now be fixed.

Can one tutor cover two Higher Level subjects for a Diploma student?+

Sometimes, and it is worth testing rather than assuming. There is genuine overlap between Higher Level mathematics and physics in mechanics, graph work and algebraic fluency, so a dual-trained specialist can be more efficient than two separate matches. The test is the marking: ask for a marked question from each subject before committing. If one is noticeably thinner than the other, you have a specialist in one subject who is comfortable in the second, which is a different purchase and should be planned as one.

What does the free first Diploma lesson actually cover?+

One free trial lesson per student, one student per family, with no card details collected and nothing to cancel. It is a full-length one-to-one session with the named tutor you were matched with, spent on the marked work you sent rather than on introductions, and it produces the same written note every other session produces. Spend it on the component you are most worried about rather than on an easy demonstration, and judge the note afterwards: it should name a category of error and a next task.

Do we need tutoring for my child's IB Diploma to be recognised in the UAE?+

No. Certificate equivalency is handled by the Ministry of Education and the relevant attestation authority, and tutoring plays no part in it. Published guidance sets out the British-track requirements clearly, while no IB points threshold appears in the sources behind this page, so check any figure you are given directly with the Ministry or your emirate's attestation authority. Any provider implying that tutoring is required for equivalency, admission or progression is manufacturing urgency around a regulatory process.

How long should a Diploma session be for a Grade 12 student?+

Sixty minutes for routine subject work, and ninety only for a whole paper sat to time or a serious read-through of an internally assessed draft. The limit is absorption rather than budget: a candidate sitting down at half past seven after a full school day has limited capacity for new correction, and a long session frequently buys twenty-five minutes of value and a tired argument. Two shorter sessions in a week usually beat one long one, which is a scheduling decision rather than a pricing one.

What happens if no tutor is available for my child's Higher Level subject?+

You get told that, with a realistic wait, rather than offered someone who teaches the adjacent subject. Coverage is deep in Diploma mathematics, the sciences, economics, business and English, and thinner in several group two languages, some arts subjects and minority options. At Diploma level a substitution shows up in the marking within a fortnight, so filling a slot with a near-enough match wastes a month of a second-year student's time, which is the one thing that cannot be replaced.

Start with the deadline list, then pick one subject

Write down every outstanding component with the school's own deadline against it, then send the subjects, the levels, the school and a recent piece of marked work. We come back with a named Diploma tutor, a proposed session length and a slot in Gulf Standard Time, usually within two working days, plus a written ranking of which subject yields the most recoverable marks per hour. The first lesson is free for one student per family with no card details taken. Sessions are one-to-one over live video; we do not offer home visits in the UAE, and if nothing suitable is free you will be told so.
