IB Tutor Cost in Dubai

The IB tutor cost in Dubai that matters to your family is not an average, it is the number your particular request produces. Five variables decide it: which subject and level, how scarce that specialism is locally, which month you start, how long each session runs, and how many hours the problem actually needs. This page works through each one with published AED figures attached, then shows what to buy first if the budget has a ceiling. Lessons run one-to-one over live video.

IB & IGCSE in Dubai

Five things decide what you pay, and only one of them is the tutor

Ask what an IB tutor costs in Dubai and the honest answer is a question back: which subject, at which level, starting when, for how long, and to fix what. Those five inputs move the final figure by a factor of five or more, and four of them are about your situation rather than about the tutor's seniority. A family that understands the five can usually get the same help for substantially less, mostly by changing when they buy rather than what they buy.

The market's published bands set the outer limits. The lowest advertised figures in this market are online and typically undergraduate-delivered: Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52 an hour and EdFlik from AED 45 to 65. Qualified subject tutors working online are quoted from AED 150 by Unitors for IGCSE and from AED 200 for IB. Exam-level specialists run roughly AED 200 to 450 and above, with TutorChase publishing AED 270 and Bestimate's Dubai rate table reaching AED 450 and beyond. The top advertised rate in the set is BartyED at AED 650. In-home visits form a separate band of roughly AED 180 to 500 once travel is included.

Those are other providers' published prices read in October 2026, named so you can check them. The spread is wide because the market is selling several different things under one word. What the numbers do not show is the variable that usually decides a family's total spend, which is hours rather than rate. Thirty hours at AED 200 costs more than ten hours at AED 450, and the thirty-hour plan is the one families drift into when nobody diagnosed the problem first.

That is why this page is organised around decisions rather than around a price list. Scarcity by subject, because a Computer Science HL request and a Maths AA SL request are not the same purchase in this emirate. Timing, because the same help bought in October and in March costs different amounts for reasons that have nothing to do with inflation. Session length and frequency, because a student who absorbs seventy minutes well does not benefit from a two-hour booking. And priority, because most families have a ceiling and the order you spend in matters more than the rate you pay.

IB Gram quotes per match rather than publishing a rate card, and we tell you which band a request sits in and why before anything is paid. Lessons are one-to-one over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time around a Dubai school week. We do not offer home visits in the UAE; in-home tutoring is a service we run only in India. The practical effect on cost is that no part of the hour pays for a journey, and the tutor is selected for the component your child is losing marks on rather than for living within driving distance.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Cost differs by programme in a way that is mostly about assessment pressure. The further a student is from an externally marked paper, the cheaper and more flexible the support can be.

DPAges 16-19 · DP1 and DP2

Diploma Programme

The band where cost questions get serious. Six subjects, externally marked papers, internally assessed components and a core, all landing inside two years. A DP2 request in March is the most expensive thing in this market because supply is tight and the remaining time is short, which limits what can be fixed and raises what families are willing to pay.

Dubai's Diploma cohort is concentrated in a minority of the emirate's schools, so specialist supply is thinner than the overall school count suggests and seasonal demand bites harder. The cost consequence is specific: the same tutor, at the same rate, is available in November and not in March, which makes timing a price variable in practice even where no rate card changes.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP 1-5

Middle Years Programme

Cheaper per hour and cheaper in total, because the content is less specialised and one tutor can often cover two related subjects. The highest-value spend is criterion literacy: understanding what a criterion score means and which of the four is holding a grade down, which is usually two or three sessions of work rather than a term.

Many Dubai families buy MYP support around a decision rather than a grade, since MYP 5 students often choose between the Diploma and a British sixth form. A short block aimed at that decision is better value than a term of general support, because the question is about fit for the next qualification as much as about current attainment.

PYPAges 3-12 · Pre-K to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

The lowest cost per hour and the shortest useful session, often thirty to forty-five minutes. Spend here is most efficient when aimed at a named gap in reading fluency, number sense or research habits, rather than at general enrichment, which schools already provide and which does not need paying for twice.

Dubai's primary intake includes a steady flow of mid-year arrivals from British, Indian and American systems, so the usual request is to close a specific gap created by a move. Arabic as an additional language is the most requested primary subject, because Dubai private schools must teach Arabic whatever curriculum they are licensed for.

DP coreAges 16-19 · across both DP years

Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge

The cheapest high-value hours available anywhere in a Diploma plan, provided they are bought early. A few hours spent testing whether a research question is answerable within the word limit prevents the much larger spend that follows a coursework crisis eighteen months later. Priced as a capped block rather than an open commitment.

Internal deadlines for these components differ by several weeks across Dubai IB World Schools, so a block timed against a neighbour's calendar can land in the wrong month. Ask the school's coordinator for the dates first; buying hours against the wrong calendar is a common and entirely avoidable waste.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Scarcity is the variable families least expect and most often pay for. Below, each subject carries an honest note on local supply in Dubai and what that does to a quote.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

SL is the highest-volume request in the emirate, so supply is reasonable and quotes sit mid-band most of the year. HL, and Paper 3 investigation work specifically, is scarcer and moves to the specialist band from February as DP2 cohorts converge on it.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Demand is rising faster than the number of teachers who have genuinely taught both maths courses. A tutor adapting an analysis course to an applications student is a mismatch you can pay specialist rates for, so ask which course they actually taught and when.

Chemistry

HL and SL

The tightest HL market in Dubai, and the one where waiting costs the most. The same specialist is bookable at a normal rate in DP1 and frequently unavailable at any rate in April, which is the clearest illustration of timing as a price variable.

Physics

HL and SL

Mechanics support is widely available and should not attract a premium. Uncertainty treatment and the practical investigation are where supply narrows, so quote comparisons only make sense once you have named which part of the course the session is for.

Biology

HL and SL

Reasonable supply at both levels. Cost-efficient here because the dominant problem is command-term discipline in extended responses, which transfers in three or four sessions rather than requiring a content sweep across the syllabus.

Economics

HL and SL

Moderate supply. The expensive hours are HL quantitative work and internal assessment commentary feedback; general theory coverage is not scarce and does not justify the top of a band in this emirate.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Plentiful supply, so a premium quote needs a specific justification. The genuinely scarce skill is marking unseen-text analysis against the published descriptors, which is worth asking a tutor to demonstrate before you agree a rate.

History

HL and SL

Variable supply by region of study, which is the detail that catches families out. A tutor strong on one prescribed subject may be weak on another, so match on the specific topics your child's school teaches rather than on the subject name.

Business Management

HL and SL

Adequate at SL, thinner at HL. Case-study application work is the hour worth buying; framework recall is available cheaply and in volume, and paying specialist rates for it is a common overspend.

Computer Science

HL and SL

The thinnest market in the emirate and the request most likely to exhaust UAE-based coverage. Expect a longer match time and a match from our wider pool, with the online format and subject depth unchanged.

Psychology

HL and SL

Growing demand in Dubai schools with reasonable supply. The expensive component is the experimental study write-up, where criterion-specific feedback is scarce; essay technique support is not scarce at all.

Arabic as an Additional Language

Ab initio and B

High volume at every year group because the subject is mandatory in Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed curriculum. Rates are mid-band; matching your child's actual school stream matters far more to the outcome than the rate does.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Format changes cost less than timing does, but it changes what each hour delivers. All formats below run one-to-one over live video unless stated.

Single diagnostic session

One free lesson built around a marked script, ending in a written statement of what is actually wrong and roughly how many hours it should take. Families on a tight budget often buy nothing else, use the diagnosis and work on it with the school. That is a legitimate outcome and it costs nothing.

  • Free, with no card details taken
  • Bring a marked script and a report
  • Ends with a written diagnosis and an hours estimate
  • Useful even if you buy nothing further

Capped block of six to ten hours

A fixed number of hours aimed at one named problem, with the cap agreed before the first session. This is the format that protects a budget, because the alternative is an open weekly commitment that quietly becomes thirty hours without anyone deciding to spend that.

  • Hour cap agreed in advance
  • One named problem per block
  • Written summary and a recommendation at the end
  • Extend only by an explicit decision

Weekly one-to-one across a term

The standard arrangement for a subject that needs sustained work rather than a fix: a fixed slot, the same tutor, following the school's scheme of work. Costs more in total than a block, and is the right purchase when the gap is genuinely content rather than technique.

  • Same tutor and slot each week
  • Follows the school's sequence
  • Short written note after each session
  • Reviewed at session four against the spend

Small group revision, two to four students

Priced per student and therefore the cheapest way to cover shared content before mocks. It is not a substitute for diagnosis, because a group session cannot be built around one student's specific error, and families who use it as one tend to buy more hours overall.

  • Lower cost per student than one-to-one
  • Best for revising content several students share
  • Not suitable for diagnosing one student's errors
  • Requires genuinely matched levels to work

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai

01

The five variables that set an IB tutor cost in Dubai

A quote is the product of five inputs, and a family can influence four of them. Subject and level set the band. Local scarcity of that specialism sets where in the band you land. The month you start sets availability, and availability behaves like price. Session length sets what you pay per useful minute. And the number of hours the problem needs sets the total, which is the figure that actually matters to a household budget.

The swings are large and uneven. Moving from a common SL subject to a scarce HL component can roughly double the band. Starting in November rather than March does not change a published rate but changes which tutors answer, which in practice is the difference between a specialist and whoever is left. Dropping a two-hour minimum to a seventy-minute session cuts a third off the invoice without cutting the teaching, because most Diploma students stop absorbing new technique before the ninety-minute mark.

The fifth variable, total hours, is the one nobody quotes and the one that dominates. A diagnosed problem addressed in eight focused hours costs less than an undiagnosed one addressed in thirty unfocused ones, even at twice the hourly rate. This is why we run a free diagnostic session rather than a sales call: an hours estimate attached to a named problem is the single most useful thing a parent can be given before spending, and it is also the thing that most often reduces what we are paid.

One variable you cannot influence: the permit. The MoHRE private tuition work permit is granted free of charge for two years according to u.ae, so it adds nothing to any legitimate quote and should never appear as a line item. Anyone charging you for a tutor's licensing is charging for something that costs them nothing.

02

Scarcity by subject: why two Dubai families get different quotes

Two families can ask for the same thing in the same week and receive quotes a hundred dirhams apart, with no dishonesty involved. The reason is supply. Dubai has a large private school sector, 227 schools serving 387,441 students across 17 curricula in 2024-25, but International Baccalaureate students are a modest share of that total and the UK curriculum is by far the largest. So the pool of teachers who have taught a specific IB Higher Level course to examination in this city is smaller than the headline school count suggests.

That matters differently by subject. Maths AA SL has genuine depth: several tutors will be available in most weeks, and a quote near the bottom of the qualified band is reasonable. Chemistry HL between February and May has almost none, and a family looking then is bidding against every other DP2 family in the emirate. Computer Science HL is thin all year, which is why it is the request most likely to be matched from outside the UAE.

The practical use of this is to ask, before comparing quotes, where your request sits. If the answer is a plentiful subject at a common level, compare aggressively; the market is competitive and you should pay mid-band. If the answer is a scarce component in the peak window, the question changes from how little you can pay to whether anyone can cover it at all, and a disclosed fallback becomes worth more than a discount.

We publish our coverage position rather than concealing it, because the alternative wastes a fortnight of a family's time. Where no UAE-based specialist is free, the match comes from our wider pool of IB subject teachers in other time zones at a Dubai-friendly hour, with no change to format or subject depth. Where we cannot cover it at all, we say that too.

03

The cost of waiting, priced out month by month

The most expensive decision in this market is not choosing an expensive tutor. It is waiting for a bad mock result before acting. Waiting raises the cost three times over: the problem has grown, the available time has shrunk so intensity must rise, and the specialists are already booked because every other family received their mock results in the same week.

Consider the same underlying problem, a DP student whose extended responses lose the top band, addressed at four different moments. In DP1 term two it is a technique fix: roughly eight hours over two months, at a mid-band online rate, with a free choice of tutor. In DP2 term one it is the same fix plus a term of accumulated habit: perhaps twelve hours, still at a reasonable rate. After January mocks it is twelve hours compressed into eight weeks, bought at the top of the band because supply has gone. Three weeks before final papers it is triage, and the honest plan covers two subjects rather than four.

None of that is a sales argument for buying earlier than you need to. It is an argument for diagnosing earlier than you need to, which is free. A single diagnostic session in DP1 tells you whether there is a technique problem at all, and most families who run one in DP1 buy fewer hours overall than families who wait, because they are fixing a small thing rather than a compound one.

The Dubai-specific wrinkle is the calendar. The school year runs from late August or early September to late June or early July, with winter and spring breaks, and Ramadan moves earlier each year and reshapes evening availability. Revision therefore happens in fewer usable weeks than a generic timeline suggests. Any plan built without the school's own assessment calendar in front of it will misjudge how much time is actually left.

04

Cost per useful hour: length, frequency and what a student can absorb

Families optimise the hourly rate and ignore the two things that decide how much of each hour is useful. The first is session length. Most Diploma students sustain about seventy minutes of genuinely demanding work, after which the session becomes revision of what has already been covered. A two-hour booking therefore often contains seventy minutes of teaching and fifty minutes of expensive company. Where a two-hour minimum exists it is usually there to justify a journey, which an online session does not have.

The second is frequency against independent practice. Tutoring works by setting a target, having the student practise it alone, and then checking whether it transferred. That cycle needs gaps in it. Two sessions a week in one subject leaves no room for independent practice, so the second session tends to repeat the first rather than build on it. The exception is a defined push: a mock-season timed-paper block, or catching up after illness or a move, where intensity is the point.

Put the two together and the efficient plan for most Diploma subjects is one session of sixty to ninety minutes a week, plus a short intense block at mock season. For a student with a genuine content deficit across a whole course, more is justified, but that is a different diagnosis and should be stated as one. A provider proposing three weekly sessions in a single subject without naming a content deficit is selling hours rather than solving a problem.

There is also a floor worth naming. Fortnightly sessions rarely work for exam-year subjects, because the target set in one session has gone cold by the next and the first twenty minutes are spent re-establishing where things were. If budget forces a reduction, a capped block of weekly sessions followed by a gap is usually more effective than the same hours spread thinly across a term.

If you can only buy ten hours, buy them in this order

  • Hour 0: free diagnostic session, before anything is bought
  • Hours 1-2: research question scope, if coursework is still open
  • Hours 3-6: the dominant error pattern in marked work
  • Hours 7-8: a timed-paper clinic with self-marking
  • Hours 9-10: held back for the week a specific question appears
  • Do not spend a limited budget on general content revision

Most families have a ceiling, and almost nobody is told how to spend against one. The ordering below is what we would advise a Dubai family with ten paid hours and a Diploma student, and it is deliberately front-loaded with the things that are cheap and change the most.

Hour zero is the free diagnostic session, which should happen before any of the ten are spent. Hours one and two go to the Extended Essay or internal assessment research question if either is still open, because a question that cannot be answered within the word limit caps several criteria at once and no later work recovers it. Hours three to six go to the single dominant error pattern in the student's marked work, usually command terms or absent working, because those transfer across every subject and every paper.

Hours seven and eight go to a timed-paper clinic in the weakest subject, where the student writes to time and then marks their own work against published criteria with the tutor challenging each decision. Hours nine and ten are held in reserve for the week before mocks or final papers, when a specific question has appeared and a general plan is useless. Spending them in advance is the most common way a budget gets wasted.

What not to buy with a ten-hour ceiling: general content revision, which the school already provides and which past papers cover for free; a second subject, because splitting ten hours across two subjects usually changes neither; and premium-band hours for a mid-band problem. A student losing marks to command terms does not need the top of the Dubai market, and anyone who tells you otherwise is quoting their availability rather than your need.

06

What the money cannot buy, at any rate in this market

No rate buys a grade. Nobody can promise one, and in the UAE a promise of that kind is a commercial representation about something entirely outside a provider's control: papers nobody has seen, boundaries published after marking, and what a seventeen-year-old does on a particular morning. Any provider offering a promised score, a promised improvement or a refund tied to a result is making a claim they cannot honour, and the published terms are usually where that unravels.

No rate buys influence over internal assessment moderation. Internal assessment is marked by the school and moderated by the IB, which compares the school's standard against its own using a sample and can adjust a whole cohort. A tutor cannot affect that, cannot predict it, and cannot request a results enquiry, which is a matter for the school's IB coordinator. Work that sits clearly inside a band is less exposed to adjustment, and that is the only lever anyone has.

No rate buys coursework. Everything submitted must be the student's own work, and a tutor's role is questioning, criterion-based feedback and method critique on material the student has already produced. At least one site competing for these searches openly sells completed internal assessments; a family that buys one is risking the candidate's entire Diploma for a handful of marks. We state the boundary in writing before a block starts so there is no ambiguity about what was bought.

And no rate buys exam-paper knowledge. Examiners mark completed scripts against a markscheme supplied for that session; they do not see future papers and cannot share markschemes. The legitimate version of that help, teaching a student to predict what a markscheme rewards from the command term and mark allocation, is available from any good specialist and does not carry a premium.

07

Free and low-cost moves that reduce the hours you need

  • Ask the subject teacher who marked the work before buying hours
  • Use the school's own clinics and coordinator meetings first
  • Work through official past papers and criteria, linked from the boards
  • Use peer study for content recall, not for marking judgement
  • Plan paid hours around the school's deadline calendar, not evenly

Reducing paid hours is more effective than negotiating a rate, and most of the available reductions cost nothing. Start with the school. Dubai schools generally run subject clinics, revision sessions and coordinator meetings that families underuse, and the subject teacher who wrote the assessment is the best-informed person about why a mark was lost. Asking for ten minutes with them before buying ten hours of tutoring is both free and more targeted.

Then use official material properly. Past papers, subject guides, assessment criteria and command-term definitions are published by the boards and available through the school. We link official sources rather than redistributing them, because reproducing board material is a copyright problem and, for unreleased material, an integrity problem for the candidate. A student working through official past papers with a markscheme will cover content for free, and paid hours can then go to the things a markscheme cannot teach.

Peer study works for content and fails for technique, which is a useful distinction. Two students revising a syllabus together will cover ground efficiently. Two students marking each other's extended responses will reinforce each other's errors, because neither has calibrated judgement yet. So use study groups for recall and paid sessions for marking, and the same budget goes further.

The last move is organisational and it is free. Get your school's assessment calendar, write the internal deadlines and mock windows on it, and plan paid hours around those dates rather than evenly across the term. Hours spent in the fortnight before a deadline change the submitted work; the same hours spent two months earlier, with no deadline in sight, usually do not.

08

Scheduling, Ramadan and honest coverage in Dubai

Lessons are delivered one-to-one over live video on a shared screen, scheduled around a Dubai school week in Gulf Standard Time. Most sessions sit between 16:30 and 20:30, after the school run and activities. Because no journey is involved, a session can be seventy minutes rather than a travel-justified two hours, which is a direct saving on the invoice rather than a compromise on teaching.

Ramadan reshapes the evening. School days shorten, energy in the late afternoon drops, and many families prefer a post-Iftar slot, which we arrange with notice. Planning for that in advance matters more than it sounds, because the weeks before the May session and Ramadan can overlap, and a revision plan built on a normal evening pattern will quietly lose a fortnight of its best hours.

On coverage, the position is uneven and we publish it. Common subjects at common levels match within a few days. Scarce components take one to two weeks, longer between February and May when the whole emirate wants the same specialists. Where no UAE-based tutor is free, the match comes from our wider pool of IB subject teachers in other time zones, at a Dubai-friendly hour, with no change to format or depth. Where we cannot cover a request, we say so rather than substituting a generalist and leaving you to discover it.

IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE: in-home tutoring is a service we run only in India. For cost purposes that is the main structural difference between us and the in-home band of roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour published in this market. No part of our hour pays for a journey, and the tutor is chosen for the component your child is losing marks on rather than for proximity to your community.

Where we tutor

Where cost questions reach us from across Dubai

The cost conversation differs by community, mostly because the schools differ and so does the point in the year when families start looking.

Dubai Festival City

Established senior provision with a long-running Diploma cohort, so parents here often arrive with a precise question about one component rather than a general request, which makes the quote smaller and the plan shorter.

Al Garhoud

Several large schools within a short radius and a strong culture of comparing quotes between families. The useful correction here is that two quotes rarely describe the same session length.

Al Jaddaf

Newer international provision with a growing DP intake, where families are often buying their first tutoring of any kind and have no reference point for what a band means.

Sobha Hartland

Recently built school cluster with high willingness to pay, which attracts premium-band advertising. Most requests from here are mid-band problems being quoted at premium rates.

Meydan

Spread-out community where in-home quotes carry a long travel component, so the online comparison lands harder than it does in central areas.

Nad Al Sheba

Fast-growing senior cohorts, many in their first Diploma year, which is the cheapest moment to buy support and the one most families skip in favour of waiting for a mock result.

Al Quoz

Mixed residential and school provision with a wide range of family budgets, and the community where group and sibling arrangements come up most often in cost conversations.

Dubai Creek Harbour

New development with students commuting to schools across the emirate, so evening slots are late and session length tends to matter more than rate to the final figure.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Name the component, not the subject

Which paper, which internal assessment, which criterion. A request at component level gets matched accurately and quoted accurately; a request at subject level gets a wider band and a vaguer plan, which usually means more hours than were needed.

  2. 02

Free diagnostic session with an hours estimate

One full lesson at no cost, built around marked work, ending in a written statement of the problem and a rough number of hours. The estimate frequently reduces what we are paid, which is why it comes before any commitment rather than after one.

  3. 03

We tell you which band and why

Before payment, we say whether the request sits mid-band or at the specialist end, and whether that is because of difficulty or scarcity. If the reason is timing, we say so, because that is the one variable you can still change.

Buy a capped block, not an open commitment

A stated number of hours aimed at one named problem, with a written summary at the end. Extending is an explicit decision rather than a default, which is what stops eight planned hours becoming thirty unplanned ones.

  5. 05

Review the spend at session four

We look at whether the hours are going to the thing that is actually losing marks. Sometimes the right answer is a shorter session, fewer sessions, or a different component. All three reduce the invoice and we say them anyway.

  6. 06

Stop when the evidence says stop

A block ends with a recommendation, which may be to stop, to go back to the school, or to seek a learning-support assessment instead. A recommendation to stop costs us a booking and is sometimes the only honest answer available.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

An hours estimate before a rate

Total hours decide total spend more than the hourly rate does, so we give a diagnosed hours estimate first. It is the number that actually governs a household budget and almost nobody in this market quotes it.

Figures attributed, never implied as ours

Every AED band here is another provider's published rate, named and dated October 2026. We quote per match rather than publishing a card, and we never present a market band as our own price.

No travel inside the hour

Lessons run over live video, so session length can follow the student's attention rather than a journey. We do not offer home visits in the UAE; in-home tutoring is a service we run only in India.

We argue for fewer hours

A diagnosed problem takes fewer hours than an undiagnosed one, and we would rather be paid for eight targeted hours than thirty vague ones. The free diagnostic session exists to make that argument concrete.

Scarcity disclosed, not priced in silently

If a request sits at the top of a band because of local supply rather than difficulty, we say so. That lets a family decide whether to change the timing, which is usually the cheaper fix.

No guarantees, at any rate

Nobody can promise a grade, an improvement or a moderation outcome, so we do not. What we commit to is a diagnosis, a target, a written note, a review point and an honest recommendation about whether to continue.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

What does an IB tutor cost per hour in Dubai right now?+

Published figures in this market span roughly AED 33 to AED 650 an hour, which sounds unhelpful until you break it into bands. Budget online provision, typically undergraduate-delivered, is advertised from AED 33 to 52 by Tutopiya and AED 45 to 65 by EdFlik. Qualified subject tutors online are quoted from AED 150 for IGCSE and AED 200 for IB by Unitors. Exam-level specialists run around AED 200 to 450 and above, with TutorChase at AED 270. The premium named end reaches AED 650 at BartyED. Those are other providers' published prices read in October 2026, not ours.

Which IB subjects are most expensive to tutor in Dubai?+

The expensive ones are scarce rather than hard. Chemistry at Higher Level between February and May is the tightest market in the emirate, because Diploma provision sits in a minority of Dubai schools and every DP2 cohort converges on the same eight weeks. Computer Science HL is thin all year. Maths AA HL, specifically Paper 3 investigation work, tightens from February. By contrast English A and Biology have reasonable supply at both levels, so a premium quote for either needs a specific justification. Ask where your request sits before comparing quotes, because supply explains most of the difference.

How many hours of IB tutoring will my child actually need?+

For a single diagnosed technique problem, usually six to ten hours: three or four sessions to teach and practise the fix, then two or three to check it transfers under timed conditions. For a genuine content deficit across a whole course, considerably more, and that should be stated as a different diagnosis rather than folded into the same plan. The number that matters is hours rather than rate, because thirty undiagnosed hours cost more than eight targeted ones even at half the price. Get an hours estimate attached to a named problem before committing to anything open-ended.

Is it cheaper to start tutoring in DP1 or to wait for the mock results?+

Starting earlier is cheaper, and by more than most families expect. The same underlying problem addressed in DP1 term two takes around eight hours at a mid-band rate with a free choice of tutor. Addressed after January mocks it takes twelve to sixteen hours compressed into eight weeks, bought at the top of the band because supply has already gone to families who received the same results in the same week. Waiting raises the cost three ways: the problem has grown, the available time has shrunk, and the specialists are booked. Diagnosing early is free and usually reduces the total.

Does a two-hour session cost less per hour than a one-hour session?+

Sometimes per hour, rarely per useful hour. Most Diploma students sustain about seventy minutes of genuinely demanding work, after which the session becomes revision of ground already covered. A two-hour booking therefore often contains seventy minutes of teaching and fifty minutes of expensive company. Two-hour minimums usually exist to make a tutor's journey worthwhile, which an online session does not have, so there is no reason to buy one. Match the session length to what your child can absorb and spend the difference on an extra week rather than an extra fifty minutes.

Is a tuition centre group class better value than one-to-one for IB?+

For revising content several students share, yes: the cost per student is lower and structured coverage suits a group. For diagnosing and fixing one student's specific error it is poor value, because a group session cannot be built around which marks that student is losing. Families who use group classes as a substitute for diagnosis tend to buy more total hours, since the underlying problem persists through the coverage. The efficient combination is group or self-study for content and a small number of one-to-one hours for marking judgement and technique, which is where the marks actually move.

What can we do ourselves to reduce the number of paid hours?+

Four things, all free. Ask the subject teacher who marked the work why the marks went, because they are the best-informed person available and ten minutes with them is more targeted than ten paid hours. Use the school's own clinics and coordinator meetings, which most families underuse. Work through official past papers and published criteria, linked from the boards rather than redistributed. And plan any paid hours around the school's assessment calendar, since hours spent in the fortnight before a deadline change the submitted work while the same hours two months earlier often do not.

Does IB tutoring cost more than IGCSE tutoring in Dubai?+

Generally yes, and the published bands reflect it: Unitors quotes IGCSE from AED 150 an hour and IB from AED 200. The reason is supply rather than difficulty. The UK curriculum is the largest in Dubai by enrolment, so IGCSE-experienced teachers are plentiful, while Diploma provision sits in a minority of schools and specialist Higher Level teachers are correspondingly scarce. Within either qualification, the scarce component matters more than the label: a thinly covered HL subject costs more than a widely taught one regardless of which board sets it.

Can we buy tutoring just for the six weeks before final papers?+

Yes, and it can work if the plan is honest about what six weeks can change. Technique transfers in that window: command-term structure, working discipline in mathematics, converting partially credited questions into full marks. New content largely does not, so a plan that promises to cover an untaught HL topic in that period is selling hope. Expect to focus on two subjects rather than four and on near misses rather than topics never understood. Availability is the practical constraint, since that window is exactly when every family in the emirate is looking for the same specialists.

What is the cheapest thing to buy that actually changes a grade?+

Two or three hours spent on an internal assessment or Extended Essay research question before any writing has happened. A question too broad to control or impossible to answer within the word limit caps several criteria at once, and no amount of later polishing recovers it. Those hours are paid at a normal rate, happen early, and prevent the much larger spend that follows a coursework crisis in the final year. After that, the cheapest effective purchase is four hours on whichever error pattern dominates the student's marked work, because it transfers across every subject.

Why do some Dubai tutors charge AED 650 an hour?+

BartyED publishes that figure at the premium named end of the market, and the honest explanation is scarcity and reassurance rather than a different teaching method. It is defensible in a narrow case: a candidate already near the top of a subject, where the remaining marks are in judgement rather than knowledge, and where the tutor has specifically marked that component. It is not defensible for the far more common case of marks lost to command terms, absent working or a badly scoped coursework question. Those are mid-band problems with mid-band solutions, and paying double buys nothing extra.

Does IB Gram publish a fixed price list for Dubai?+

No, and the reason is that the request determines the figure. A common subject at Standard Level and a scarce Higher Level component in April are different purchases, and a single advertised rate would either overcharge the first or fail to cover the second. What we do instead is tell you which band your request sits in and why before anything is paid, run a free trial lesson with no card details taken, and give an hours estimate attached to a named problem. Every market figure on this page is another provider's published rate, named and dated, not ours.

How does tutoring cost compare with resitting an IB subject?+

A retake costs more than money. There is an entry fee set through the school for the session, which your coordinator can quote precisely, but the larger costs are six additional months of study, a delayed university timetable and the effect on offers that were conditional. Set against that, a block of targeted hours in the term before final papers is usually the cheaper course of action, which is an argument for diagnosing early rather than for buying a large plan. Ask the school's IB coordinator about retake timing and entry arrangements before treating a resit as a fallback.

Will paying a higher rate improve my child's result?+

Only where the higher rate buys something the problem actually needs. If the marks are being lost to a repeatable technique error, a mid-band specialist who can mark accurately against published criteria fixes it, and a premium rate adds nothing. If the student is already near the top of a subject and the remaining marks are judgement calls in one specific component, specialist calibration in that component is worth paying for. Nobody at any rate can promise a grade, an improvement or a moderation outcome, and a provider offering one is making a claim about things entirely outside their control.

How quickly can you give us a cost estimate for Dubai?+

Usually the same day for the band, and after the free trial lesson for the hours. We can tell you immediately whether a request sits mid-band or at the specialist end, and whether that is because of difficulty or local scarcity, because that depends on the subject, level and component you name. The hours estimate needs the diagnostic session, since it depends on what is actually wrong. If no UAE-based specialist is free for a scarce component, we tell you that at the quoting stage rather than after you have committed, and explain where the match would come from instead.

Get the hours estimate before the hourly rate

The most useful figure in any IB tutor cost conversation in Dubai is not the rate, it is the number of hours a named problem needs. Ask for that first, and ask which of the five variables is putting your quote where it is: subject, scarcity, timing, session length or hours. Four of the five are things you can still change. IB Gram runs a free diagnostic lesson with no card details taken, quotes per match with the band explained, and delivers one-to-one tuition over live video on Gulf Standard Time with no travel inside the hour. Tell us the subject, the level and the component, and we will tell you what we think it will take.
