IGCSE Science Tutor in Dubai

An IGCSE science tutor in Dubai costs what it costs for reasons you can name out loud: the tier of the tutor, whether your child sits Core or Extended, how many sciences sit on the timetable, and how close the June series is. This page publishes the AED bands the Dubai market charges for 2026-27, says where each band came from, and shows exactly what moves the number. Lessons from IB Gram run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, so nothing in the rate is paying for a drive across Sheikh Zayed Road.

What an IGCSE science tutor in Dubai actually costs, and why two quotes for the same child differ by 300 per cent

Ask five providers in Dubai what IGCSE science tuition costs and you will be quoted anything from AED 45 an hour to AED 650 an hour. Both ends are real. EdFlik publishes rates from AED 45 to 65 for budget online lessons and Tutopiya advertises from roughly AED 33 to 52 for its lowest tier, while BartyED publishes AED 650 for a premium named tutor. Between those poles, Unitors lists IGCSE tuition from AED 150 and Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 table puts a specialist exam-year subject tutor at AED 200 to 450 and above. Nothing is wrong with any of those numbers. They are prices for different things, and the whole purpose of this page is to let you work out which thing your child needs before you pay for a thing they do not.

The first variable is the tutor, not the subject. A university student who finished IGCSE Biology four years ago can run a vocabulary drill competently and will sit near the bottom of the band. A teacher who has marked Extended Chemistry scripts knows that question 6 on Paper 4 is where the mark scheme refuses to accept a correct answer written in the wrong units, and that knowledge is what the top of the band is buying. For a Year 11 student eight weeks from the June series, the cheaper option often costs more in the end because it spends six of those eight weeks re-teaching content instead of fixing exam technique.

The second variable is the structure your child's school has chosen, and in Dubai that varies school by school. A student taking Cambridge IGCSE Coordinated Sciences 0654 sits one set of papers covering all three disciplines and can usually be supported by one tutor. A student taking Biology 0610, Chemistry 0620 and Physics 0625 as separate subjects is sitting nine components, and the honest answer is that no single tutor is equally strong across all three at Extended tier. That decision, taken at the end of Year 9, is the single largest driver of a Dubai family's science tuition bill two years later.

The third variable is timing, and it is the one families control. Rates in Dubai firm up from January onwards as Year 11 cohorts across the emirate start booking the same evening slots. Bestimate's monthly estimates for one weekly hour run from AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle and AED 1,000 to 2,000 and above for specialist exam-year support. A family that starts in October pays the lower end of their chosen tier and gets the slot they want. A family that starts in March pays the upper end and takes whatever slot is left, which in practice means 8pm on a school night.

The fourth variable is what the hour actually includes. Some rates are for contact time only. Others include marked past-paper questions returned between sessions, a running record of which syllabus points are secure, and contact with the parent once a month. IB Gram does not publish an hourly price list on these pages, because the number depends on tier, subject count and session length, and a figure invented for a landing page would be worse than no figure. What you can see for free is the tutor: a 30-minute trial lesson, no card details required, after which you know whether the Extended Physics explanation lands with your child or not.

Everything below is organised around that one question. There is an AED band table with its sources named, a structural comparison of Coordinated Sciences against three separate subjects, a practical-paper section that explains why Paper 6 exists, a side-by-side costing of online against in-home against group, the June and November series counted backwards from results day, and a plain account of what the MoHRE private tuition permit is and why you should ask about it.

At a glance

  • Core tier and Extended tier are different qualifications with different papers; Extended is quoted higher because the content is deeper, not because tutors mark it up
  • Coordinated Sciences 0654 is a double award covering all three sciences in one set of papers; three separate subjects means three syllabuses and usually more than one tutor
  • The practical component is 20 per cent of a Cambridge science grade, assessed through Paper 5 or Paper 6 depending on what your child's school enters
  • Pearson Edexcel International GCSE science uses codes beginning 4BI1, 4CH1 and 4PH1 and a different practical model from Cambridge
  • Every AED figure on this page is a market rate published by a named provider, not an IB Gram price
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Dubai families arrive at IGCSE science from three directions: a Cambridge Lower Secondary route inside the same school, an Indian or American middle-school programme, or the IB Middle Years Programme. Each leaves a different gap, and the first session is usually spent working out which gap you are actually looking at.

CHECKPOINTAges 11-14 · Years 7-9

Cambridge Lower Secondary Science

The three-year run-up to IGCSE, finishing with Checkpoint tests that Cambridge offers in March, May and October. Science is taught as one subject with strands in biology, chemistry and physics, and the assessment is diagnostic rather than certificated. Most Dubai British-curriculum schools use the Checkpoint result to stream Year 10 into Core or Extended, which makes Year 9 the cheapest year in which to buy tutoring.

In Dubai the Checkpoint result frequently decides whether a child is entered for Coordinated Sciences or three separate subjects, and that entry decision is harder to reverse than parents expect. A family spending AED 200 an hour on Year 11 Extended Chemistry is often paying to undo a Year 9 streaming decision that a term of Year 9 support would have changed. Schools publish their streaming criteria in the Year 9 options evening pack; ask for it in writing.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge and Pearson IGCSE Science

Two years ending in externally marked papers in the June or November series. Cambridge Biology 0610, Chemistry 0620 and Physics 0625 each split into a multiple-choice paper, a theory paper and a practical component, with separate question papers for Core and Extended candidates. Pearson runs the same subjects as 4BI1, 4CH1 and 4PH1 with a different practical model and a modular entry pattern.

Dubai is a June-series city. Most British-curriculum schools in the emirate enter their main cohort for June and use November for resits and for students who arrived mid-year. That matters for scheduling: the revision peak in Dubai falls in Ramadan and the hottest weeks before the summer exodus, which is why online evening slots in February and March are the first to disappear across the emirate.

POST-16Ages 16-19 · Years 12-13

A Level, IB Diploma and the science route after IGCSE

IGCSE science grades are the entry gate to A Level Biology, Chemistry and Physics and to IB Diploma science at Higher Level. Most Dubai sixth forms ask for a grade 6 or B at IGCSE before accepting a student onto the matching A Level, and IB Diploma coordinators look at the Extended tier result rather than the Core one when placing a student at HL.

Dubai has both routes in volume, often on the same road. A student finishing IGCSE at a British school in Al Barsha can walk into A Level at the same school or cross the city to an IB Diploma. Families making that choice in Year 11 should know that IB Diploma science at Higher Level assumes the Extended tier content, so a Core tier grade 5 is a weaker platform for HL Chemistry than the same grade from the Extended papers.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Science at IGCSE is not one subject, and the tuition a child needs depends on which of these combinations their school entered them for. Each entry below names the paper structure and the place where Dubai students most reliably drop marks.

Cambridge IGCSE Biology 0610

Core and Extended

Multiple choice, a theory paper and a practical component. Extended candidates lose marks less on recall than on the long-answer questions about transport in plants and homeostasis, where the mark scheme wants a causal chain in order. Learning the chain as a sequence rather than a list is the single highest-yield drill in this syllabus.

Cambridge IGCSE Chemistry 0620

Core and Extended

The Extended theory paper rewards precision with state symbols, charges and units. Organic chemistry and electrolysis are where Dubai cohorts most often stall, because both require a method rather than a fact. Mole calculations carry method marks, so a student who sets out working legibly still banks marks after an arithmetic slip.

Cambridge IGCSE Physics 0625

Core and Extended

Electricity and magnetism produce the widest mark spread of any topic in the syllabus. The Extended theory paper asks students to rearrange formulae under time pressure and to read a graph gradient as a physical quantity. Practice should be timed from the start, because the mark loss here is as much about pace as about understanding.

Cambridge IGCSE Combined Science 0653

Core and Extended

A single award covering all three disciplines at reduced depth, usually taken where a student needs science on the certificate but is heading for humanities or business post-16. The risk is that revision spreads thinly across three subjects; a tutor's job here is to ration time by paper weighting rather than by how interesting a topic is.

Cambridge IGCSE Coordinated Sciences 0654

Core and Extended, double award

Two IGCSE grades from one set of papers covering biology, chemistry and physics. Popular across Dubai because it protects curriculum time for a sixth or seventh subject. Supporting it well means working across all three disciplines in one hour, which is why availability of genuinely cross-trained tutors is tighter than for single subjects.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Biology 4BI1

Single tier

Two written papers with practical skills assessed inside them rather than through a separate practical test. Students moving from Cambridge mid-course are often surprised by the question style: longer stems, more data to interpret, and a stronger emphasis on describing an experimental method in enough detail to be repeated.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Chemistry 4CH1

Single tier

Paper 1 and Paper 2 carry the full syllabus with no tiering decision to make, which simplifies entry but removes the safety net of a Core paper. Calculation-heavy sections and the required practicals are the two places where a student who was comfortable at Cambridge Core needs several weeks of catch-up.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Physics 4PH1

Single tier

The formula list and the expectation that students quote and rearrange relationships accurately drive most of the mark loss. Radioactivity and waves reward diagram-based answers. A tutor working on this specification should be marking against the Pearson mark scheme, not the Cambridge one, because the credit patterns differ.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Science Double Award 4SD0

Single tier, double award

Pearson's answer to Coordinated Sciences, awarding two grades from papers that cover all three disciplines. Useful for students who need breadth plus a strong overall grade profile. The content overlap with the separate sciences is substantial, so a tutor can support a sibling pair on different specifications without starting from scratch.

Cambridge IGCSE Environmental Management 0680

Single tier

Taken in a handful of Dubai schools as a science-adjacent option, with a strong case-study element that suits students who write well but find equations hard. Marks concentrate in data interpretation and in the extended-response evaluation questions, both of which respond quickly to structured practice.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats are available, and the right one depends on how far your child is from their target grade and how many weeks remain before the series. All three are delivered over live video with a shared whiteboard and screen sharing.

Weekly one-to-one by subject

One 60 or 90-minute session a week per science, running through the academic year. This is the format for a student who is broadly coping but losing marks in a pattern, and it is the cheapest route per grade point gained because the work spreads across months rather than weeks. The tutor marks a past-paper question set between sessions and the pattern of lost marks drives the next hour.

  • Session notes and the marked question set sent after each lesson
  • Syllabus checklist updated so you can see what is secure and what is not
  • Slot held for the year, which matters from January onwards

Exam-series intensive

A block of sessions concentrated in the eight to twelve weeks before the June or November papers, built entirely around timed questions and mark-scheme reading. Content teaching is kept to the gaps the papers expose. This is the format most Dubai families arrive looking for and it works, but it is the most expensive way per hour to reach a grade because nothing is being prevented, only repaired.

  • Timed papers sat under exam conditions and marked against the official scheme
  • Topic triage by paper weighting rather than by what feels hardest
  • Practical-paper technique for Paper 5 or Paper 6 as entered

Cross-science support for Coordinated and Combined entries

One tutor covering the biology, chemistry and physics strands of 0654, 0653 or 4SD0 in a single session, with time rationed according to the weighting of each strand in the paper. It suits the double-award entry pattern, where splitting across three specialists wastes half the hour on handover and costs three times as much.

  • One running record across all three strands rather than three partial ones
  • Weekly time split published so you can see where the hour went
  • Escalation to a single-subject specialist for one topic where it is genuinely needed

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai

01

The AED bands for IGCSE science tuition in Dubai, with every figure attributed

  • A quoted floor rate is almost never the rate you will pay for Extended tier in exam term
  • Ask what happens between sessions before comparing two hourly numbers
  • A monthly package in Dubai is commonly four or eight sessions; divide it out before comparing

An IGCSE science tutor in Dubai is quoted somewhere between AED 45 and AED 650 an hour as of October 2026, and the spread is explained almost entirely by who the tutor is and what the hour includes. That range is not a marketing device. It is five different products sold under one word.

The table below collects the published rates we could verify from provider pages and from Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 rate table. Where a provider states a starting price, it appears as a floor rather than a typical price, because a floor rate is almost always for the shortest session with the least experienced tutor. None of these figures is an IB Gram price. We publish them because three of the six best-ranking pages for this search publish no price at all, and the two that do quote United States dollars, which is not the currency a Dubai family transacts in.

Read the table with one question in mind: what does the hour include? A rate at the bottom of the band typically buys contact time only. A rate in the middle usually includes a marked question set between sessions. At the top it includes a written record of syllabus coverage, timed papers marked against the official scheme and a monthly conversation with the parent. The difference between AED 150 and AED 300 an hour is rarely the tutor talking more impressively; it is whether anything happens between Tuesday and the following Tuesday.

One figure deliberately absent is a VAT statement. The UAE treatment of tuition fees depends on the provider's registration status and is not something a landing page should assert, so ask any provider whether the number they quoted you includes VAT, and ask for it in writing.

Five things that move the number on a Dubai science quote

  • Core or Extended: ask the school in writing which tier your child is entered for
  • One double award or three separate sciences, which decides tutor count
  • Sixty or ninety minutes, where ninety fits a timed section plus feedback
  • Weeks remaining before the June or November series
  • Whether marking and a written record are inside the rate or extra

Parents often assume the price difference is negotiation. It is not. Five concrete variables set the figure, and four of them are inside your control before you ask anyone for a rate.

Tier comes first. Core and Extended are different papers with different ceilings, and Extended tier work is quoted higher because the theory paper goes further and the mark scheme is less forgiving. If your child is entered for Core, say so when you ask for a rate, because being tutored at Extended depth for a Core paper is a way of spending money on content that will never be examined.

Subject count comes second, and it is the big one. Three separate sciences at Extended tier is three syllabuses, nine components and in practice more than one tutor. A double-award entry is one set of papers and usually one tutor. A family can halve a science tuition bill by recognising which of those two situations they are in before they start booking.

The remaining three are session length, proximity to the series and what the hour includes. Ninety minutes is better value than sixty for Extended tier work, because a timed paper section plus feedback does not fit into an hour. Rates firm up across Dubai from January as Year 11 cohorts book the same evening slots. And an hour that produces marked work is a different product from an hour that produces a conversation, even when the two are priced the same.

03

Coordinated Sciences, Combined Science or three separate subjects, costed properly

  • Ask the school which route your child is entered for before you ask any tutor for a price
  • Cambridge also publishes 9 to 1 graded versions of these syllabuses under different codes; check the code on the statement of entry
  • A double award counts as two IGCSEs for the Ministry of Education five-subject equivalency count

This is the decision most Dubai families make without being told it has a price tag. At the end of Year 9 the school presents three science routes, usually framed around curriculum time and university aspiration. Nobody mentions that one route can cost three times as much to support privately.

Cambridge IGCSE Coordinated Sciences 0654 is a double award: one set of papers covering biology, chemistry and physics, producing two IGCSE grades. Combined Science 0653 is a single award covering the same three disciplines at lower depth, producing one grade. Separate Biology 0610, Chemistry 0620 and Physics 0625 produce three grades from three full syllabuses. Pearson mirrors the structure with Science Double Award 4SD0 alongside the separate 4BI1, 4CH1 and 4PH1.

The tutoring consequence is arithmetic. A double-award student can be supported by one cross-trained tutor across all three strands in a single session, with time rationed by paper weighting. A student taking three separate sciences at Extended tier needs genuine depth in each, and the honest position is that very few tutors are equally strong across all three at that level. That means two or three tutors, two or three hourly rates, and two or three sets of homework landing on a Year 11 timetable that is already full.

None of this means the double award is better. A student heading for Medicine or Engineering needs the separate sciences, and the extra cost buys something real. The point is to make the decision knowing what follows from it, in Year 9, when a term of targeted support can still change which route the school offers.

Paper 5 or Paper 6: the practical decision that quietly costs tutoring hours

  • Ask the school, in writing, whether your child is entered for Paper 5 or Paper 6
  • Paper 6 technique is written technique and responds quickly to marked practice
  • Laboratory skills for Paper 5 belong in the school laboratory, not a home kitchen
  • Pearson assesses practical skills inside the written papers instead

Twenty per cent of a Cambridge IGCSE science grade sits in the practical component, and that component comes in two forms. Paper 5 is a practical test sat in a laboratory. Paper 6 is the alternative to practical, a written paper about experimental method, apparatus, tables of results and sources of error. Your child's school chooses which one to enter, and many Dubai parents do not know which it is until results day.

The distinction matters for tuition because the two papers reward different preparation. Paper 5 rewards hands under running water: measuring accurately, reading a thermometer at eye level, recording to a consistent number of decimal places. Paper 6 rewards the written grammar of experimental work, which is learnable without a bench. Describing how to control a variable, identifying why a reading drifted, drawing a results table with units in the headers and plotting a line of best fit are all skills a tutor can build over live video with a shared screen and a scanned past paper.

This is where online delivery is a straightforward advantage rather than a trade-off. Paper 6 is a written paper, and the drilling it needs is annotation, marking and redrafting of written answers. A tutor sharing a screen can mark a results table in real time, show the mark scheme alongside it and make the student rewrite the error-analysis sentence twice. The laboratory work itself belongs in school, where the equipment and the supervision are, and no private tutor in Dubai should be presenting a home bench as a substitute for it.

Pearson handles practical skills differently again, assessing them inside the written papers rather than through a separate component. A student moving between the two systems mid-course needs this explained once, carefully, because the question style changes more than the content does.

05

Online, in-home and small-group science tutoring in Dubai, side by side

The phrase most Dubai parents search is a home tutor, and it is worth answering that properly rather than deflecting it. In-home tuition in Dubai is a real market with real prices: Bestimate puts in-home one-to-one at AED 180 to 350 an hour and independent home tutors at AED 200 to 500, with monthly packages of four two-hour visits advertised at AED 1,599 to 1,799. The premium over online is travel, and in Dubai travel is not a rounding error. A tutor crossing from Al Quoz to Arabian Ranches at 5pm is committing ninety minutes to a sixty-minute lesson, and that time is inside your rate whether or not it appears as a line item.

The second cost of in-home tuition is less visible and more important. It restricts your choice to tutors who live within driving distance of your villa. For a Year 11 student who needs Extended Chemistry specifically, the pool of people within a twenty-minute drive who have actually marked 0620 Extended scripts may be nobody. Families solve this by accepting a generalist who is nearby, which is a geography decision dressed up as an academic one.

IB Gram does not run home visits in Dubai or anywhere else in the UAE; home tutoring is a service we offer only in India. Lessons for Dubai families are delivered one-to-one over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time, with a shared whiteboard, screen sharing and scanned past papers annotated live. The case for it is not that it is cheaper, although it usually is. The case is that your child gets the right specialist for the paper they are sitting rather than the nearest available person, and that nothing in the fee is paying for Sheikh Zayed Road at 5pm.

Small-group tuition is the third option and it is genuinely cheaper per student, but it works only when the group shares a tier, a specification and a weak topic. A group of four where two sit Core and two sit Extended delivers half a lesson to everyone.

Where IGCSE science marks are actually lost, subject by subject

  • Biology: causal chains in order, not lists of correct terms
  • Chemistry: state symbols, units and legible working that earns method marks
  • Physics: formula rearrangement under time pressure and graph gradients as quantities
  • All three: the practical component, which is a fifth of the grade and the last thing revised

A quote is only useful if you know what you are buying hours to fix. Across Dubai cohorts the mark loss in science is strikingly patterned, and most of it is not a content gap.

In Biology, the long-answer questions on transport, homeostasis and inheritance want a causal chain in the right order. Students who know every term still score two out of four because they list facts instead of linking them. The fix is structural: a sentence frame that forces cause, mechanism and consequence, practised on six past questions until it becomes automatic.

In Chemistry, the mark loss sits in precision rather than knowledge. State symbols, charges, units and significant figures carry marks, and the Extended theory paper awards method marks in mole calculations, which means a student who writes out working legibly still banks credit after an arithmetic error. Organic chemistry and electrolysis both need a procedure rather than a memory, and both respond to being taught as a flowchart.

In Physics, electricity and magnetism produce the widest spread in the whole syllabus, and the second problem is pace. The Extended theory paper asks for formula rearrangement under time pressure, and students who can do the physics untimed lose marks they would otherwise have. Timed practice from the first session, not the last month, is what closes that. Across all three subjects, the practical component is the most ignored twenty per cent on the paper, and a single session on results tables and error analysis frequently moves a grade boundary.

07

The June and November series, counted backwards from results day

No competitor page for this search names an exam series, a registration deadline or a results date. That absence is strange, because the calendar is the thing that decides whether tuition starting in March is useful or theatrical.

Cambridge International runs IGCSE, O Level and International A Level exams in a June series and a November series, with Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests in March, May and October. Every exam centre is allocated to one of six administrative zones, and Cambridge states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, adding that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong zone timetable. Dubai parents should take that literally and get the zone timetable from the school rather than from a forum.

The November series gives the clearest worked example of how far ahead the paperwork sits, because its dates are fully published. Pearson's November 2026 written exams ran from late October to 19 November 2026, and the grades from the equivalent 2025 series reached students on 22 January 2026 - two months after the last paper. The entry that put a student in that series was filed months before any of it. The Cambridge June series works on the same principle with a longer run-up: entries close in the spring and results follow in August. Either way, a family deciding late in the year to add a science subject is deciding about the series after the one they had in mind.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE exams are available in May or June and in November each year. The November 2026 final timetable runs from late October to 19 November 2026. June 2026 results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Pearson publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series, so always work from the live official timetable rather than a restated date, including for the International GCSE November series that follows it.

Tutoring cost in the context of a Dubai school bill

  • Use the school's own intervention sessions first; they are already inside the fee
  • A frozen 2026-27 fee makes this a good year to budget tuition deliberately rather than reactively
  • Ask any provider in writing whether their quoted figure includes VAT

Science tuition does not exist on its own in a household budget. It sits next to a private school fee, and the sensible question is not whether AED 250 an hour is a lot but what proportion of the annual education spend it represents and what it displaces.

The scale of the Dubai market gives the context. Dubai's private school sector served 387,441 students across 227 private schools in 2024-25, offering 17 different curricula, with UK curriculum schools accounting for 37 per cent of enrolment, Indian 26 per cent, US 14 per cent and International Baccalaureate 7 per cent. The 2026-27 intake adds seven new private schools, four UK curriculum and three International Baccalaureate, creating 16,846 new places, after six new schools opened during 2025-26 and enrolment rose 6 per cent.

Fees themselves are flat for now. KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there will be no increase in school fees for private schools in the emirate for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total. For a family budgeting science tuition against a frozen fee, that is useful: the fee side of the equation is predictable this year in a way it has not been recently.

The table below sets out the arithmetic of common tuition patterns using the published market bands. Work out which row you are actually in before deciding whether to start. One weekly hour of mid-band support across a full academic year is a materially different commitment from a twelve-week intensive, and the twelve-week intensive is usually the one families end up buying because they waited.

Permits, honesty and what a science tutor in Dubai may not do

  • Ask whether the tutor holds a MoHRE private tuition work permit; it is free and takes two working days
  • Do not arrange tuition with your child's own classroom teacher
  • A tutor marks and explains; the work that is assessed must be the student's
  • Past papers and mark schemes should be referenced from the official Cambridge and Pearson sites

Two questions should be asked of anyone you pay to teach your child in the UAE, and most families never ask either. The first is whether the person holds the permit the law requires. The second is where the line sits between teaching and doing the work.

Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit. The MoHRE private tutor work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 Regarding the Introduction of Private Tuition Work Permits. The permit is granted free of charge for two years, and eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18 and university students. MoHRE lists the service as Issuance of a New Work Permit for Private Tutor Licensing, with no fee and a two-working-day completion time, applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws. No fine schedule is published, so treat any specific figure you are quoted with scepticism.

There is a second rule worth knowing in Dubai and across the border in Abu Dhabi. Press reporting on ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff describes a prohibition on teachers providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, with the MoHRE permit's code of conduct also barring tutors from serving students affiliated with their own school. Verify the current wording against the authority's own policy document before relying on it, but the practical advice holds: do not arrange for your child to be privately tutored by their own classroom teacher.

On academic honesty, the position is simple and worth stating plainly because this search result contains providers who ignore it. A tutor teaches, explains, sets practice and gives feedback on work the student has produced. Work submitted for assessment must be the student's own. Any provider offering to supply finished coursework or assessed material is offering your child an academic malpractice finding, and for IGCSE science the risk is concentrated in any school-assessed component. Nor should a tutor hand over copies of syllabus documents, past papers or mark schemes as downloads; those belong to Cambridge and Pearson, and the right thing to do is cite them and link to the official site.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across Dubai

IGCSE science tuition demand in Dubai is not spread evenly. It follows the British-curriculum school clusters, and the school-run timetable in each of those clusters decides what time a session can realistically start. These are the areas families book from most often.

Al Barsha and Al Sufouh

Dense with British-curriculum secondary schools and the most competitive 5pm to 7pm slot window in the emirate. Families here are usually choosing between separate sciences and Coordinated Sciences, and book earliest in the academic year.

Dubai Marina and Jumeirah Lakes Towers

Apartment living, no spare study room and long lift waits at school pick-up. Sessions here start later than in the villa communities, and headphone-based online lessons are the practical format rather than a compromise.

Arabian Ranches and Mudon

A long school run on the Emirates Road corridor means a child is rarely home before 4.30pm. Science sessions land well at 6pm, after a break, and parents here commonly take a Saturday morning slot for past-paper work.

Dubai Hills Estate and Al Quoz

Newer schools, growing Year 10 cohorts and a high rate of mid-year arrivals who are switching specification. Catch-up work on specification differences is the most common first request from this area.

Mirdif and Al Warqa

A mix of British and Indian-curriculum families, which makes CBSE-to-IGCSE science transitions common here. The content gap is smaller than parents fear; the question-style gap in practical and data questions is larger.

Jumeirah, Umm Suqeim and Al Safa

Established British schools with long-standing Extended tier cohorts and high expectations in Chemistry and Physics. Requests from this area skew towards grade 8 to grade 9 refinement rather than remediation.

Dubai Silicon Oasis and Academic City

Close to the universities, with families who often want the IGCSE science grade framed against A Level and university entry from the first session. Evening availability is easier here than in the Marina cluster.

Deira, Al Qusais and Al Nahda

Older residential districts where Combined Science and Coordinated Sciences entries are proportionally higher. Budget sensitivity is real, and the honest recommendation is often fewer, longer sessions concentrated in the ten weeks before the series.

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai

Western Dubai school cluster

The schools along the Al Barsha, Al Sufouh, Umm Suqeim and Jumeirah corridor run the largest Extended tier science cohorts in the emirate. All are inspected annually by KHDA, and their published inspection reports include a subject-level comment on science that is worth reading before you book anything.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the tier and the codes

The useful first message is short and specific: the syllabus codes on the statement of entry, whether the entry is Core or Extended, whether the practical component is Paper 5 or Paper 6, and the series your child is sitting. That is enough to match a tutor properly and to tell you honestly whether the subject is one we can cover well.

  2. 02

A 30-minute trial lesson at no charge

Half an hour with the proposed tutor, no card details taken and nothing to cancel afterwards. The point is diagnostic as much as commercial: your child works through one real past-paper question while you see whether the explanation lands. Many families use the trial to discover their child's gap is pace rather than content.

  3. 03

    A tier-honest plan with a number attached

After the trial you get a written plan: which topics by paper weighting, how many sessions, the session length, and what the hour includes. If the honest answer is six sessions rather than thirty, that is what the plan says. If no specialist is free at the level your child needs, we tell you that instead of substituting someone broadly adjacent.

  4. 04

Weekly sessions with marked work in between

A session runs over live video with a shared whiteboard and annotated past papers. Between sessions the tutor marks a question set against the official scheme and the pattern of lost marks sets the next hour's agenda. You get the session note and the updated syllabus checklist each week.

  5. 05

Review against the calendar, not the calendar month

Every four to six weeks the plan is checked against the series timetable rather than against how long tuition has been running. Entry deadlines, mock windows and the practical paper date all pull the plan around, and a plan that ignores them is just a standing appointment.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The prices are on the page, with sources

Three of the six strongest pages ranking for this search publish no price at all, and one of them asks the price in its own FAQ and then declines to answer it. The AED bands here are attributed to the provider or rate table that published them, with the month stated, so you can check them rather than trust us.

Matched to the paper, not the postcode

Because delivery is online, the tutor is chosen for the specification and tier your child is actually entered for. A family in Arabian Ranches is not restricted to whoever is willing to drive out at 5pm, which is the constraint that quietly decides most in-home matches in Dubai.

The practical component is treated as a fifth of the grade

Paper 5 and Paper 6 carry twenty per cent of a Cambridge science grade and are routinely the last thing revised. Session plans ration time by paper weighting, which usually means the error-analysis and results-table work happens in October rather than the week before the exam.

Availability stated before you pay

Not every subject and tier is covered at every hour in Gulf Standard Time, and cross-trained double-award tutors are scarcer than single-subject ones. Where we cannot staff a request at the level needed, you hear that at the enquiry stage rather than discovering it in week three.

Clear lines on honesty and the law

Tutors are asked about the MoHRE private tuition work permit, are not placed with students from a school where they teach, and do not supply finished coursework or reproduce Cambridge and Pearson papers. These are the exact boundaries two providers in this search result cross, and keeping them is the whole of our academic-integrity position.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

How much does an IGCSE science tutor in Dubai charge per hour in 2026-27?+

Published market rates in Dubai run from roughly AED 45 to AED 650 an hour, and the band depends on the tutor rather than the subject. EdFlik publishes from AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya from about AED 33 to 52 at the budget online end. Unitors lists IGCSE tuition from AED 150. Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 table puts a specialist exam-year tutor at AED 200 to 450 and above, TutorChase publishes AED 270, and BartyED publishes AED 650 for a premium named tutor. Those are market figures from the providers named, not IB Gram prices. Ask what the hour includes before comparing any two of them.

Why is Extended tier science quoted higher than Core by most Dubai providers?+

Because they are different papers. Extended candidates sit a different multiple-choice paper and a different theory paper, covering more content at greater depth, and the mark scheme is less forgiving about units, state symbols and precision. Preparing a student for Extended therefore takes more hours of genuine subject depth from the tutor, and the pool of tutors who can work confidently at that level is smaller. If your child is entered for Core, say so when you ask for a rate. Paying Extended-depth prices to prepare for content that will never appear on a Core paper is the most common avoidable overspend in this market.

Does my child need three separate sciences or is Coordinated Sciences 0654 enough?+

It depends on the post-16 plan rather than on ability. Coordinated Sciences 0654 is a double award, producing two IGCSE grades from one set of papers across all three disciplines, and it counts as two subjects for the Ministry of Education five-subject equivalency count. It protects timetable space for another option and can be supported by one cross-trained tutor. Students heading for Medicine, Engineering or Higher Level IB sciences generally need the separate Biology 0610, Chemistry 0620 and Physics 0625 route, which is three full syllabuses and usually two or three tutors. Ask the sixth form or IB coordinator what they require before the Year 9 options evening, not after.

How is the practical paper assessed if my child is tutored over video?+

Cambridge assesses practical skills either through Paper 5, a laboratory practical test, or Paper 6, the alternative to practical, which is a written paper about apparatus, method, results tables and sources of error. The school chooses which one your child is entered for. Paper 6 is written technique and is well suited to online work: the tutor shares a screen, marks a results table live, puts the mark scheme beside it and makes the student rewrite the error sentence. Laboratory work for Paper 5 belongs in the school laboratory with proper equipment and supervision, and no tutor should present a home bench as a substitute.

Is Paper 6 a softer option for a Dubai student who has missed laboratory time?+

It is not softer, but it is more coachable. Paper 6 removes the manual-skill element and replaces it with a written examination of experimental reasoning, which means the marks go to students who can describe variable control, spot why a reading drifted, draw a table with units in the headers and justify a line of best fit. Those are teachable in a few focused sessions. The decision is not yours to make, though: the entry is set by the school. Find out which paper is on the statement of entry, because preparing for the wrong one wastes the twenty per cent of the grade that the component carries.

Do Cambridge and Pearson IGCSE science cost the same to tutor in Dubai?+

Hourly rates are broadly the same, but the hours needed can differ. Cambridge splits candidates into Core and Extended with a separate practical component, so there are more components to prepare. Pearson International GCSE science uses single-tier specifications such as 4BI1, 4CH1 and 4PH1 and assesses practical skills inside the written papers. A student switching between the two mid-course usually needs several extra sessions, not because the content differs greatly but because the question style, the mark-scheme language and the practical model all change. Make sure the tutor is marking against the specification your child is actually entered for.

How many weeks before the June series should science tuition start?+

For remediation, start in the autumn term. For exam technique, twelve weeks of weekly ninety-minute sessions is enough to sit four or five timed papers per subject with marking in between, which is the minimum that moves a grade reliably. Starting in March is not pointless, but it changes the product: there is time to fix technique and ration topics by weighting, not to rebuild two years of content. The practical constraint in Dubai is slots. Evening availability across the emirate tightens from January as Year 11 cohorts book, so a family deciding in March also accepts a later session time.

What does a realistic monthly science tuition budget look like for a Dubai family?+

Bestimate's monthly estimates for one weekly hour run AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle and AED 1,000 to 2,000 and above for specialist exam-year support. Published online packages of eight sessions a month appear around AED 799, and in-home packages of four two-hour visits at AED 1,599 to 1,799. Multiply by the number of sciences before you decide: one weekly hour across three separate subjects is three times those figures. Those are market numbers from the sources named, and the honest planning advice is to budget for the subject count rather than the hourly rate.

Can one tutor cover Biology, Chemistry and Physics for the same student?+

For a double-award or combined entry, yes, and it is usually better value: one tutor, one running record, time rationed by the weighting of each strand in the paper. For three separate sciences at Extended tier, be sceptical of anyone who says yes without qualification. Extended Chemistry and Extended Physics ask for genuinely different expertise, and very few tutors mark at depth in all three. The practical arrangement for a separate-sciences student is often one tutor for two subjects and a specialist for the third, chosen by where the marks are being lost rather than by convenience.

Does the hourly rate normally include marking and feedback between sessions?+

Frequently not, and this is the difference that two identical-looking quotes hide. At the budget end of the Dubai market the rate buys contact time: the tutor explains, the student listens, the hour ends. In the middle band it generally includes a marked question set returned before the next session. At specialist rates it should include timed papers marked against the official scheme and a written record of which syllabus points are secure. Ask the question directly, in writing, and compare what happens between Tuesday and the following Tuesday rather than comparing two hourly numbers.

Is a science tutor in Dubai required to hold a MoHRE private tuition permit?+

Yes. The private tutor work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and covers teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18 and university students. MoHRE processes it in two working days through its smart app, website and e-services system. Individuals tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule is published, so disregard any specific amount you see quoted. Ask your tutor about their permit; it costs them nothing to hold.

Will IGCSE science grades matter for UAE Ministry of Education equivalency?+

They count towards the subject total. For the British track, the Ministry requires five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates with a grade of no less than E or grade 3, plus one accredited subject at Advanced Level at grade E or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five required subjects. A double award such as Coordinated Sciences counts as two. One well-ranked competitor page states that UAE candidates must take six IGCSE subjects, which does not match the published rule. Verify your own case on the Ministry's channel; equivalency is not something a tutoring provider performs.

What happens to our science sessions during Ramadan and the summer break?+

Both are planned around rather than paused by default. During Ramadan, school days shorten and energy patterns shift, so sessions commonly move to a post-Iftar slot and run shorter and more frequently rather than long. Because lessons are over live video, a family travelling for the summer keeps the same tutor from a different time zone, which is usually the point at which online delivery proves itself. The practical thing to decide early is whether the summer is a break or a catch-up window: for a student entering Year 11 with gaps, six July sessions buy back the whole autumn term.

Does a KHDA inspection rating tell me whether my child needs a science tutor?+

Not directly, but the report is more useful than the headline band. KHDA is responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in Dubai and inspects schools annually on a six-band scale from Outstanding to Very Weak. The published report usually comments on attainment and progress by subject, so a school rated Good overall can carry a weaker science comment. Read the science paragraphs rather than the cover page. A strong school with a thin Year 10 chemistry set is a normal situation, and it is the kind of specific gap that targeted tuition fixes efficiently.

What is the cheapest honest way to get IGCSE science help in Dubai?+

Start with what you already pay for. School intervention and clinic sessions are inside the fee, and in a Dubai secondary school they are usually run by the person who will write the forecast grade. Then use the free official material: specifications and specimen papers on the Cambridge and Pearson sites, which show the exact command terms and mark-scheme language. If paid support is still needed, buy fewer, longer, marked sessions in the ten weeks before the series rather than a thin weekly hour for two years. Fewer hours that produce marked work beat more hours that produce conversation.

Work out the tier and the subject count, then ask about the price

The number you will be quoted for an IGCSE science tutor in Dubai depends on four things you can establish in one email to the school: the syllabus codes, Core or Extended, Paper 5 or Paper 6, and the series. With those four facts a quote becomes checkable rather than a matter of trust, and you can place it against the published market bands on this page. Lessons for Dubai families are delivered one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, starting with a 30-minute trial lesson at no charge and no card details taken. Send the four facts and we will tell you honestly how many sessions the job needs, including when the answer is fewer than you expected.
