IGCSE Physics Tutor in Dubai

Families hiring an IGCSE physics tutor in Dubai usually have a shorter problem than they think. Lost marks in this subject concentrate in about six topics and three habits, which means the work can be priced topic by topic rather than bought as a term of lessons. This page sets out what each of those topics costs to fix in AED, explains the practical paper routes, and names which syllabus your child is actually sitting. Lessons run one-to-one over live video, Gulf Standard Time.

  • Priced topic by topic, with every AED band attributed to its source
  • Paper 5 practical and Paper 6 alternative routes explained separately
  • Syllabus codes named: Cambridge 0625 and Pearson 4PH1
  • One-to-one over live video, Gulf Standard Time, free trial lesson

IB & IGCSE in Dubai

Pricing IGCSE physics support topic by topic in Dubai

Physics marks do not leak evenly across the syllabus. In almost every marked paper we see from Dubai schools, the same handful of topics accounts for most of the loss, and the same three habits account for most of the rest. That makes the subject unusually easy to price honestly: a family is buying three or four topic repairs and a technique fix, not a term of general physics lessons, and the difference in cost is substantial.

The published Dubai rate bands supply the arithmetic. At the floor, Tutopiya advertises from AED 33 to 52 an hour and EdFlik from AED 45 to 65. A qualified online subject tutor sits at roughly AED 150 to 300, with Unitors listing IGCSE from AED 150 and TutorChase quoting AED 270. Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 table puts in-home visits at AED 180 to 350 and market home tutors at AED 200 to 500, with specialist exam-year support at AED 200 to 450 and above.

Applied topic by topic, those numbers produce small, bounded purchases. Electricity, the topic Dubai students name most often, usually takes three or four sessions to put right if the underlying algebra is sound. Moments and equilibrium take two. Waves and refraction take three. Thermal physics takes two. A student with four problem topics is looking at ten to twelve sessions, not a year, and knowing that in advance protects a family from an open-ended arrangement.

Two administrative facts have to be established first, and most families do not have them to hand. The first is the syllabus: Cambridge IGCSE Physics 0625 and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Physics 4PH1 are different specifications with different paper structures. The second is which practical route the school has entered the student for, because Cambridge offers a practical test and an alternative-to-practical paper and they require genuinely different preparation.

Dubai's examination pattern matters too, and it is simpler than families fear. Cambridge International runs IGCSE in a June series and a November series, and UAE candidates sit those two; the February and March series is offered to India only. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May and June and again in November. A student who needs more time than the summer allows has a real second route, which changes how a late diagnosis should be handled.

Delivery is stated once. Physics support for Dubai families runs one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, scheduled around the school day. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; in-home tutoring is a service we offer only in India. Circuit diagrams, ray diagrams and graph work are all drawn and annotated on a shared screen, which keeps the working as revision material afterwards.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

IGCSE Physics sits in a longer route through a Dubai school, and what is worth buying differs sharply by stage because the content is cumulative and the habits form early.

KS3Ages 11-14 · Years 7-9

Years 7 to 9, before the course begins

The years where the mathematics physics depends on is either secured or not: rearranging formulae, standard form, units and prefixes, reading a gradient from a graph. None of that is physics, and all of it determines whether a student can access physics marks. A student who cannot confidently rearrange an equation will lose physics marks for two years.

Dubai families usually first consider physics help in Year 10, which is a term or two later than the useful moment. The cheapest intervention in this subject is three or four sessions in Year 9 on equation rearrangement, standard form and unit conversion, which costs little at the lower published bands and removes a recurring deduction from every subsequent paper.

Y10Ages 14-15 · Year 10

Year 10, the content year

Most Dubai schools deliver the bulk of the syllabus in Year 10: general physics, thermal physics, waves, electricity and magnetism, atomic physics. Topics met once and not revisited become the Year 11 gaps. Practical work happens here too, which is where the skills tested by both practical routes are built, whether or not the student notices.

The most useful thing a Dubai family can do in Year 10 is keep the returned topic tests. Schools assess as they teach, and a sequence of topic tests is a precise map of which topics are weak, available free, months before any mock. Families who bring that sequence to a first session get a plan in twenty minutes rather than two sessions.

Y11Ages 15-16 · Year 11

Year 11, the examination year

Revision, mocks and the series. Content has been taught at least once, so the work is diagnosis, topic repair and technique. This is also when the practical route becomes concrete: students entered for the practical test need laboratory technique and those entered for the alternative paper need to interpret other people's experiments on paper, which are different skills.

Dubai mock windows run from roughly late November to February depending on the school. A marked physics mock is the single most useful document in the two years, because it shows topic losses and habit losses separately. Acting on it in January leaves months; waiting until the spring term converts a topic repair job into triage.

POSTAges 16-17 · Year 12

After IGCSE: A Level and IB Diploma physics

The IGCSE physics grade and tier decide whether A Level Physics or IB Physics at Higher Level is realistic. Both assume fluency with the algebra and graph work that IGCSE introduces, and both move quickly past it. A student who scraped through IGCSE physics by memorising will find the first term of either course difficult in a way that is avoidable.

Dubai offers A Levels, the IB Diploma and American pathways within a small radius, and the physics entry requirement differs between them. Identifying the likely post-16 route during Year 10 and working backwards to the tier and grade needed is better planning than choosing a route after results, when the options have already narrowed.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Physics requests from Dubai families usually arrive with a maths or chemistry request attached, because the weaknesses are connected. These are the subjects most often bundled with an IGCSE physics enquiry.

Physics

Cambridge 0625 Core and Extended

Multiple choice and theory papers plus a practical route, covering motion and forces, thermal physics, waves, electricity and magnetism, and atomic physics. Marks are lost on equation rearrangement, units, unlabelled diagrams and extended answers that describe without explaining.

Physics

Pearson Edexcel 4PH1

Two written papers with practical skills assessed within them rather than in a separate practical examination. Content overlaps heavily with Cambridge but question style and the treatment of practical work differ enough that past papers should match the specification.

Mathematics

Cambridge 0580 and Pearson 4MA1

The subject underneath physics. Rearrangement, standard form, ratio, gradients and significant figures are maths skills tested in physics papers, and a student losing marks in both usually has one problem rather than two.

Chemistry

Cambridge 0620 and Pearson 4CH1

Shares the quantitative discipline and the practical skills. Moles and concentration are proportional reasoning problems, and students who are weak on ratio lose marks in both sciences for the same underlying reason.

Biology

Cambridge 0610 and Pearson 4BI1

The third science in a triple-award timetable, lighter on calculation but still requiring graph interpretation, rate work and careful unit handling. Students taking all three sciences have a heavy practical load to coordinate.

Combined or Co-ordinated Sciences

Cambridge 0654 and 0973

The route many Dubai students take instead of three separate sciences, with reduced content across all three disciplines. The physics content is a subset of 0625, so past-paper practice has to come from the right syllabus rather than the separate-science one.

Additional Mathematics

Cambridge 0606

Taken by stronger candidates and genuinely useful for physics, since the algebraic fluency it builds removes most of the rearrangement difficulty. It is also a substantial extra load in an examination year.

Computer Science

Cambridge 0478

Shares logic and data representation with the electronics parts of physics. Students comfortable with binary and logic gates find the digital electronics content straightforward where others treat it as a separate subject.

Design and Technology

Cambridge 0445

Overlaps with forces, materials and structures, and builds the habit of recording a method precisely. That habit transfers directly to the practical and alternative-to-practical routes in physics.

Geography

Cambridge 0460

An unexpected but real overlap in graph and data interpretation under examination conditions. Students who read graphs confidently in geography usually lose fewer marks on the physics graph questions, which carry a predictable share of the paper.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Physics support is worth buying in one of three shapes, and the right one depends on which of the three kinds of loss a marked paper shows. All run over live video on Gulf Standard Time rather than at a Dubai address.

Topic repair blocks

Two to four sessions per problem topic, with the topic rebuilt from the underlying idea rather than patched with worked examples. Each block ends with a timed past-paper question from the correct specification, marked properly. The topic list is the plan and crossing items off it is the progress record.

  • One topic at a time, rebuilt rather than revised
  • Each block closes with a timed question from the right syllabus
  • The topic list shrinks visibly, which a parent can check
  • Bounded length, so cost is known before the first session

Technique and calculation discipline

Short work on the three habits that cost marks regardless of topic: rearranging before substituting, carrying units through a calculation, and writing extended answers that explain rather than describe. Unglamorous, quick, and worth more across a whole paper than any single topic repair.

  • Rearrange, then substitute; never the other way round
  • Units carried through every line and stated in the answer
  • Significant figures and prefixes handled consistently
  • Extended answers practised against the command term

Practical paper preparation, by route

Separate preparation for the practical test and the alternative-to-practical paper, because they test different things. The practical test needs laboratory technique and real measurement discipline; the alternative paper needs the ability to read somebody else's experiment, spot the control variable and criticise a method on paper.

  • Route confirmed with the school before preparation begins
  • Alternative-to-practical worked through past papers specifically
  • Measurement, uncertainty and anomalous results discussed explicitly
  • Method criticism practised as a written skill, not a lab skill

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai

01

The six topics that account for most lost physics marks, priced

Marked physics papers from Dubai schools show a consistent pattern. A small number of topics absorb most of the loss, and they are the same topics year after year, for structural reasons rather than because students are careless. Each one is taught once, each one depends on something taught earlier, and each one appears reliably in the papers.

Electricity leads the list, and it is the topic students name when asked. The difficulty is rarely the physics: it is that circuit questions require tracking several quantities through a system, which exposes any weakness in rearranging equations or in handling series and parallel relationships. Three or four sessions usually settles it, and the sessions are mostly algebra wearing a physics costume.

Moments and equilibrium is the second, and the cheapest to fix. Students who can take moments about a sensible point reliably gain the marks; students who cannot lose all of them in a question type that recurs. Two sessions is normal. Waves and refraction is the third, where ray diagrams and the geometry of refraction cause the trouble, and three sessions is typical. Thermal physics is the fourth, with specific heat capacity and latent heat questions being calculation discipline more than conceptual difficulty.

Pressure and density is the fifth, usually failing on unit conversion rather than on the physics, and atomic physics is the sixth, where half-life questions and nuclear equations are mechanical once the convention is clear. The table below puts session counts and AED totals against each one. None of the figures is an IB Gram price; the bands are the market's own published rates and the totals are arithmetic.

Paper 5 practical or Paper 6 alternative to practical: which is your child sitting?

This is the question Dubai parents ask most often about physics and get the least clear answer to. Cambridge offers two routes for the practical element: a practical test sat in a laboratory, and an alternative-to-practical written paper that examines practical understanding on paper. The school chooses, and candidates prepare very differently depending on the choice. Pearson's International GCSE Physics assesses practical skills within the written papers rather than through a separate practical examination.

The practical test requires laboratory technique: setting up apparatus, taking readings carefully, recording in a sensible table, spotting an anomalous result and knowing what to do about it. Preparation means doing experiments, which a tutor cannot replicate remotely and should not pretend to. What a tutor can do is drill the surrounding skills: table design, significant figures, plotting, drawing a line of best fit, and calculating a gradient with units.

The alternative-to-practical paper is a different animal and, for a tutor, a much more tractable one. It presents somebody else's experiment and asks the candidate to identify variables, criticise a method, read a scale, complete a table, plot and interpret. All of that is a written skill, examinable from past papers, and improvable in three or four sessions. Students entered for this route who spend their revision doing experiments are preparing for the wrong paper.

The practical consequence is a single question to the school: which practical paper is my child entered for? Families who do not ask often assume the laboratory route because it sounds more like physics, and then meet an alternative-to-practical paper full of method criticism they have never practised. Confirm the current paper structure and codes with the school and with the awarding body's own syllabus page rather than from summaries.

Cambridge 0625 and Pearson 4PH1: what actually differs

Two specifications dominate IGCSE physics entries in Dubai and they are not interchangeable. Cambridge IGCSE Physics 0625 is used widely across the emirate's Cambridge schools. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Physics 4PH1 is the main alternative. The content overlap is large, which lulls families into treating past papers as interchangeable, and the question style, mark allocation and practical treatment are different enough that they are not.

The structural differences matter most for revision planning. Cambridge separates the practical element into its own paper, either a practical test or an alternative-to-practical paper, while Pearson assesses practical skills inside the written papers. Cambridge tiers into Core and Extended with supplement content examined only at Extended; a Core candidate revising Extended material is wasting time, and an Extended candidate revising only Core material is missing examinable content.

There are also Combined or Co-ordinated Sciences routes, where physics is a reduced subset taken alongside chemistry and biology in a single award. Students on those routes need past papers from the combined syllabus, not from separate-science 0625, because the content boundary differs and questions on excluded material are a waste of revision time.

The screening question for any tutor is therefore specific: which syllabus code and tier is my child entered for, and which practical paper? A tutor who answers in general terms about physics is working from assumptions. Confirm the live specification with the school and link to the awarding body's own page; no tutoring service should be distributing syllabus documents, past papers or mark schemes itself, since those belong to the awarding body and the correct behaviour is to point at the official source.

04

Equations: which are given, which are not, and the rearrangement problem

  • Know which equations are supplied and which must be recalled
  • Rearrange symbolically first, substitute numbers last
  • Check a rearrangement against units before using it
  • Convert prefixes consistently; carry units through every line
  • Give answers to the accuracy the question specifies
  • Two sessions on these habits affects every calculation topic at once

A large share of physics marks turns on equation handling, and most of the loss has nothing to do with physics. Some equations are supplied in the examination and some must be recalled, and the boundary differs between specifications. A student who does not know which is which either wastes memorisation effort or arrives at a question unable to start.

The deeper problem is rearrangement. Students substitute numbers first and then try to rearrange an expression containing them, which multiplies the chances of an error and makes any mistake invisible. The habit worth installing is rearranging symbolically first, checking the rearrangement against units, and substituting last. It takes about two sessions to install and it reduces errors across every calculation topic simultaneously.

Units are the companion problem. Prefixes are the usual culprit: kilo, milli, micro and nano appear constantly, and a student who converts inconsistently produces answers that are correct by a factor of a thousand, which earns nothing. Carrying units through each line of working catches that automatically, which is the practical reason for insisting on it rather than treating it as neatness.

Significant figures and the instruction to give an answer to a stated accuracy complete the set. Questions that specify two significant figures are awarding a mark for following the instruction, and students routinely give four. These are the cheapest marks on any physics paper and the ones most often left behind, which is why a technique block is usually better value than a fifth topic repair.

05

Electricity, the topic Dubai students name most often

Ask a Dubai IGCSE physics candidate which topic they find hardest and electricity is the usual answer. It is worth unpacking why, because the honest diagnosis changes what the sessions should contain. Electricity is not conceptually harder than waves or thermal physics. What makes it feel harder is that a circuit question requires holding several related quantities in mind at once and moving between them.

In a series and parallel problem a candidate has to track current, potential difference and resistance across multiple components, deciding at each step which relationship applies. A student with secure algebra does this comfortably. A student whose algebra is shaky loses the thread halfway through, and the symptom presents as not understanding electricity when the cause is not being fluent with rearrangement and ratio.

The second genuine difficulty is representational. Circuit diagrams use conventions that have to be read accurately, and students who cannot reliably tell a series branch from a parallel one in an unfamiliar drawing are guessing. Practising reading circuits, redrawing them in a standard form, and identifying what is in series with what, is a visual skill that improves quickly with repetition on a shared screen.

What this means for a Dubai family's purchase is encouraging. Three or four sessions on electricity, with the first one spent confirming whether the problem is algebra or conventions, usually resolves it. Buying twenty sessions of general physics because electricity is hard is the expensive route to the same destination, and it is the arrangement most of this market will sell you.

06

The UAE exam series and what a late diagnosis can still do

Cambridge International runs IGCSE, O Level and International A Level examinations in a June series and a November series, with Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests in March, May and October. The February and March series is offered to India only, which means a UAE candidate sits June or November and any advice referring to a February entry deadline is advice for a different country. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May and June and again in November.

The November series is the fact that changes the economics of a late diagnosis. A Dubai student whose January mock comes back well below target has two options rather than one: compress the work into the months before the summer series, or plan properly for November with an extra five months. The second is often the better outcome and it is almost never mentioned by providers selling compressed revision programmes.

Entry deadlines sit months ahead of the papers, which is the administrative fact that surprises families. For a sense of the cycle, Pearson's November International GCSE timetable runs from late October to 19 November 2026 in the current series, with results reaching students in January; November 2025 results landed on 22 January 2026, and June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students on 20 August 2026. Those dated examples are what make the pattern checkable rather than asserted.

One warning that specifically affects UAE candidates. Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, adding that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an examination after using the wrong one. Revise from the timetable your school issued, and check the awarding body's live timetable page rather than a restated version.

Online physics tuition against the in-home market in Dubai

Physics involves drawing, and families reasonably ask whether that works over video. It does, better than the alternative in most respects, because a shared screen that both parties can draw on leaves the circuit diagram, the ray diagram and the graph in a file that can be reopened. The same work in an exercise book is somewhere in the house by revision season.

The in-home premium in Dubai is quantifiable. Bestimate puts home visits at AED 180 to 350 and market home tutors at AED 200 to 500, against AED 150 to 300 for a qualified online subject tutor. Advertised monthly packages run AED 799 for eight online sessions against AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home visits. For topic repair work, eight shorter contacts across a month suit the subject better than four long ones, because each topic should finish with a timed question and a gap before the next one.

There is a specification argument too. Two awarding bodies, two tiers and two practical routes produce eight combinations, and the right tutor is one who knows your child's. Within a twenty-minute drive of a given Dubai community, the set of physics tutors who match that exact combination may be small. Over video the constraint disappears, which matters most for the alternative-to-practical paper, where specific past-paper familiarity does the work.

The honest case for presence remains for younger students who need supervision as much as teaching, and for practical technique, which no remote session replaces. Laboratory skill is built at school, in the laboratory, and a tutor who claims otherwise is overselling. IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE in any case; that service is part of our India offering only, and physics support here runs one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.

What a Dubai family should ask before paying for physics help

The screening questions for this subject are short and they eliminate most of the field. Which syllabus code and tier is my child entered for. Which practical paper. Which three topics does the marked paper show as weakest. What would the first four sessions cover, specifically. A tutor who answers all four without hedging is worth booking; one who talks about physics in general is guessing.

The fifth question is about the permit. Any individual providing private tuition in the UAE needs the MoHRE private tuition work permit introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. It is granted free of charge for two years, with eligible applicants including registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18 and university students. MoHRE's own service page lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time, and warns that tutoring without one attracts fines and penalties under the applicable laws.

There is a related point about school teachers specifically. In Abu Dhabi, ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit's code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with the teacher's own school. That is press-reported and worth verifying against the current policy document, but the direction is clear and no family should be arranging tutoring with their own child's class teacher.

Finally, be sceptical of outcome claims. Nobody can guarantee a physics grade, and figures about percentages of students improving are meaningless without the number of students, the date and the method behind them. What a provider can honestly offer is a named topic list, a session estimate, a marked re-test, and a straight answer when the plan is not working.

Where we tutor

Dubai communities IGCSE physics requests come from

Physics enquiries reach us from across the emirate, and the useful distinction between communities is which specification the local schools use and how late in the course families tend to ask.

Al Barsha and Dubai Science Park

Several British-curriculum schools within a short radius, using more than one specification between them. Physics enquiries here frequently involve a student revising from past papers that belong to the other awarding body.

Jumeirah and Al Safa

Established schools with strong science departments and short commutes. Requests tend to arrive in Year 10 with returned topic tests in hand, which makes planning quick and the eventual session count small.

Mirdif and Al Warqa

Large family communities a long way from the western school corridor. The travel element inside an in-home physics quote is substantial here, and physics is a subject where a shared screen for circuit and ray diagrams works well.

Al Qusais and Al Nahda

A sizeable IGCSE population with many families planning engineering or medical routes afterwards. Enquiries often concern tier placement, because a Core entry limits what follows at A Level and in the IB Diploma.

Arabian Ranches and Victory Heights

Villa communities where sport dominates the early evening, so physics sessions sit late. Short frequent slots work better than one long weekend block, particularly for topic repair where each session should end with a timed question.

Jumeirah Village Circle and Al Furjan

High-growth housing with children from one household at different schools. The practical consequence for physics is that one family may need two sets of past papers and two different practical-route preparations.

Dubai Hills Estate and Al Quoz

Newer communities adjacent to light industrial areas, with families often planning two years ahead. The useful conversation here is Year 9 equation-rearrangement work, which is the cheapest physics intervention available.

Deira and Al Mamzar

Older, denser neighbourhoods east of the creek with long-established science provision. Requests often come from families whose older children sat the same papers, which makes the specification-change question worth asking explicitly.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Get three facts from the school

The syllabus code, the tier, and which practical paper your child is entered for. All three in writing. Revision shape depends on them and no tutor can supply them, which is why a tutor who does not ask is working from assumptions.

  2. 02

Send the marked papers and topic tests

A mock is ideal and a sequence of returned Year 10 topic tests is almost as good. Together they separate topic losses from habit losses, which is the distinction the whole plan rests on.

  3. 03

Agree a topic list and a habit list

Three or four named topics and the technique habits visible on the script. Both lists are short and both can be crossed off. An agreement to improve at physics in general cannot be checked by anyone.

  4. 04

Run short sessions over live video

Two shorter slots a week beat one long block for topic repair, because each topic should end with a timed question and a gap before the next. Sessions sit around the Dubai school day, mandatory subject lessons, sport and prayer times.

    Re-test from the correct specification

Every few weeks, a timed past-paper question set from the right syllabus, marked properly. The lists shrink or they do not. If they do not after three re-tests, the plan changes rather than continuing by default.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Priced topic by topic

Six topics account for most lost marks, and each is priced with a session count and a modelled AED total at published market bands. A family can see that four problem topics is ten to twelve sessions rather than a year of lessons.

The practical route named explicitly

Cambridge's practical test and alternative-to-practical paper need different preparation, and Pearson assesses practical skill inside the written papers. Students entered for the alternative paper who spend revision doing experiments are preparing for the wrong examination.

Syllabus codes stated

Cambridge 0625 and Pearson 4PH1 differ in structure and question style, and Combined Sciences routes differ again. Exactly one syllabus code appears across the whole researched competitor cluster, which is how families end up with the wrong past papers.

Technique treated as the best value

Rearranging before substituting, carrying units, respecting stated accuracy. Two sessions on those habits affects every calculation topic simultaneously, which usually beats a fifth topic repair for the same money.

The November series named

UAE candidates sit June and November, and the February and March Cambridge series is India-only. A late diagnosis has a genuine second route, and compressed revision programmes sold without mentioning it are incomplete advice.

No outcome claims

No grade guarantees and no percentages about other students, because such figures mean nothing without the sample size, date and method. What is offered instead is a named list, an estimate, a marked re-test and a straight answer.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

Does my child sit a practical exam for IGCSE Physics in Dubai?+

It depends on what the school entered them for. Cambridge offers two routes: a practical test sat in a laboratory, and an alternative-to-practical written paper that examines practical understanding on paper. Pearson's International GCSE Physics assesses practical skills inside the written papers instead of through a separate practical examination. The two Cambridge routes need genuinely different preparation, so ask the school which paper appears on the entry. Families who assume the laboratory route and meet an alternative-to-practical paper full of method criticism are badly caught out.

How many sessions does it take to fix IGCSE physics electricity?+

Usually three or four, and the first should establish whether the problem is actually electricity. Circuit questions require tracking current, potential difference and resistance across several components, which exposes weak algebra rather than weak physics. A student whose rearrangement is shaky loses the thread halfway through and reports not understanding electricity. The other common cause is representational: being unable to tell reliably what is in series with what in an unfamiliar diagram, which improves quickly with practice redrawing circuits in standard form.

Which physics syllabus does my child's Dubai school use?+

Ask the school, because it changes the revision material. Cambridge IGCSE Physics 0625 and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Physics 4PH1 are both widely used in the emirate, and Combined or Co-ordinated Sciences routes exist as well with a reduced physics subset. The content overlap is large enough to lull families into treating past papers as interchangeable, and the question style, mark allocations and practical treatment differ enough that they are not. Get the code and the tier in writing.

Why does my child lose physics marks after getting the physics right?+

Three habits account for most of it. Substituting numbers before rearranging, which multiplies errors and hides them. Inconsistent prefix conversion between kilo, milli, micro and nano, producing answers wrong by a factor of a thousand. And ignoring an instruction to give an answer to a stated accuracy, which is a mark awarded for following the instruction. Carrying units through every line of working catches the second automatically. Two sessions on these habits improves every calculation topic at once.

Does anyone come to our home in Dubai for physics lessons?+

No. IB Gram runs no home visits anywhere in the UAE; in-home tutoring is a service we offer only in India. Physics support for Dubai families is one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, with circuit diagrams, ray diagrams and graphs drawn on a shared screen and saved as files that are still available during revision. The in-home market here is real and quoted at AED 180 to 500 an hour with the tutor's travel inside the rate.

Can a tutor prepare my child for the practical test?+

Partly, and it is important to be straight about the limit. Laboratory technique, meaning setting up apparatus, taking careful readings and handling equipment, is built at school in the laboratory and no remote session replaces it. What a tutor can do is drill everything around it: designing a results table, significant figures, plotting, drawing a line of best fit, calculating a gradient with units, identifying an anomalous result and knowing what to do about it. Those carry a substantial share of the marks.

What is the difference between Core and Extended in Cambridge physics?+

Extended covers the full syllabus including supplement content and carries the upper grade range; Core covers reduced content and is capped below the top grades. The practical consequence for revision is specific: a Core candidate working through Extended material is wasting time on content they will not be examined on, and an Extended candidate revising only Core material is leaving examinable topics untouched. The tier sits with the school, which has evidence from two years of assessment, and any conversation about it belongs in Year 10.

When do UAE students sit IGCSE physics exams?+

Cambridge International runs IGCSE in a June series and a November series, and UAE candidates sit those two. The February and March series is offered to India only, so any guidance referring to a February entry deadline is written for a different country. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May and June and again in November. Cambridge also allocates each centre to one of six administrative zones and warns that candidates must use the correct zone timetable, so always work from the version the school issued.

Is it worth waiting for the November series if the mock was poor?+

Often, yes, and it is rarely offered as an option. A student whose January mock sits well below target can either compress the work into the months before the summer series or plan properly for November with roughly five extra months. The second frequently produces the better grade. The decision belongs with the school because it affects entries and post-16 applications, but it exists, and a provider selling a compressed revision programme without mentioning it is giving incomplete advice.

Could weak IGCSE maths be what is costing my child physics marks?+

Frequently. Rearranging formulae, standard form, ratio, gradients and significant figures are mathematics skills assessed inside a physics paper, and a student losing marks in both subjects usually has one underlying weakness rather than two. The tell is a marked script where the physics reasoning is sound and the arithmetic or the algebra breaks down. Fixing that in a few sessions aimed at the mathematics is cheaper and more effective than hiring separate tutors for physics, chemistry and maths to work around the same gap.

What does physics tutoring cost in Dubai?+

Published market rates put a qualified online subject tutor at roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour, with specialist exam-year support at AED 200 to 450 and above on Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 table. Unitors lists IGCSE from AED 150 and TutorChase quotes AED 270. In-home visits are quoted at AED 180 to 500 with travel inside the rate. At the floor, Tutopiya advertises from AED 33 to 52 and EdFlik from AED 45 to 65. Those are the providers' published figures, read in October 2026.

How early should physics support start?+

Year 9 is the best value, which surprises families. The IGCSE course assumes fluency with rearranging equations, standard form, units and prefixes and reading gradients from graphs, none of which is physics and all of which determines whether physics marks are accessible. Three or four sessions on those in Year 9, which sit comfortably at the lower published rate bands, remove a recurring deduction from every paper for the following two years. Year 10 is still good; the spring of Year 11 is triage.

Is it allowed for an IGCSE physics teacher to tutor their own class privately?+

That should be avoided, and in Abu Dhabi it is explicitly restricted. ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE private tuition permit's code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with the teacher's own school. That is press-reported and worth verifying against the current policy document, but the direction is unambiguous and no family should be arranging private lessons with their own child's class teacher.

Does an IGCSE physics tutor in Dubai need a MoHRE tuition permit?+

Yes. Any individual providing private tuition in the UAE needs the MoHRE private tuition work permit introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. It is granted free of charge for two years, and eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18 and university students. MoHRE's service page lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time through its smart app, website and e-services system, and warns that tutoring without one attracts fines and penalties.

What if no physics tutor matches our specification and practical route?+

We say so instead of substituting quietly. Two awarding bodies, two tiers and two practical routes produce several combinations, and a specific match on the alternative-to-practical paper in the weeks after mock results can be narrower than families expect. The options are a start date in the future, a tutor who covers the content but not that exact route for interim topic repair, or a recommendation to wait until demand eases. Families should be told which of those is on offer.

Three facts from the school, then a short topic list

Ask the school for the syllabus code, the tier and the practical paper, then send whatever marked physics work you have, including Year 10 topic tests. The free trial session turns that into two short lists: three or four topics to repair and the technique habits visible on the script. Both lists can be crossed off and checked, which is why we would rather sell ten sessions that finish than a year that does not. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time; home visits are not part of our UAE service.
