Cambridge IGCSE English Second Language 0510 Home Tutor in Dubai

A Cambridge IGCSE English Second Language 0510 home tutor in Dubai should hand you something you can check. This page describes the artefacts: a written task in two versions, the same listening recording attempted twice a fortnight apart, two short speaking recordings on unseen topics, and a four-session review a parent can audit without a teaching background. Sessions run one-to-one on live video rather than at a Dubai address.

  • Written tasks marked against what the task demanded, then redrafted
  • Listening attempted twice, so trap types are named rather than guessed
  • Speaking recorded only with consent, and deleted on request
  • A four-session review written for a parent, not for a staffroom

IB & IGCSE in Dubai

In a four-skill subject, the only honest progress report is the work itself

Parents searching for a 0510 home tutor in Dubai are usually trying to solve a trust problem as much as an academic one. The school says the English grade is a 5 and could be a 6. A tutor says they can help. Nothing in between is checkable, and English is the subject where that gap is widest, because an hour of pleasant conversation about a reading passage looks identical, from the kitchen, to an hour of properly diagnostic teaching.

The answer this page proposes is artefacts. Every 0510 session should leave behind something a parent can open: a written task marked against what the task actually demanded, with task fulfilment, register and accuracy judged separately. The same listening recording attempted twice, a fortnight apart, so that the traps still catching the student are named rather than described. Two short recordings of speaking practice on unseen topics. A marked reading answer sheet where each loss has its question type written beside it.

That structure comes from the shape of the syllabus. 0510 assesses reading, writing, listening and speaking, and under that code the speaking test is reported separately from the overall grade. Four skills means four error patterns, and a single weak one can hold the whole grade down while the other three look healthy. A general impression of how English is going cannot locate the problem. Four separate records can, which is the entire argument for keeping them.

IB Gram delivers this as one-to-one lessons on live video to households across Dubai. We do not send tutors to UAE addresses, and in-home visits are a service we offer only in India. The honest trade is this: you give up somebody physically present, and you gain both a specialist chosen for the paper rather than for the postcode and a complete file of the work. For families in Town Square, Mudon or Damac Hills the second half of that trade is worth more than the first, because the specialist pool within driving distance of those communities is small.

The sections below set out the record skill by skill, then put the travel arithmetic in a table so the in-home comparison is explicit rather than implied. There is also a table of the mandatory UAE subjects every Dubai private school teaches alongside the licensed curriculum, because those lessons compete for the same evenings as 0510 practice and almost nobody writing about tutoring in this emirate mentions them. Read the tables first if you are short of time, then the section on what a tutor must never produce, because that is the boundary a parent is entitled to have in writing before any money moves. Everything factual here names its source, and anything we could not verify is left out rather than smoothed over.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Language assessment changes shape between programmes, and so does the evidence a tutor can collect. These are the stages a Dubai 0510 candidate most often passes through.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

IB MYP Language Acquisition

Assessed against criteria for comprehending spoken and written text and for communicating in response. Students arriving into a Cambridge entry from MYP language acquisition are usually confident speakers with loose written control, because criterion feedback rewards communication more than it rewards precision of form.

Dubai has a substantial IB cohort within its private sector, so mid-secondary moves between an IB school and a British-curriculum school happen often. The most useful document after such a move is a piece of writing marked under the new school's expectations, not the last report from the old one.

0510Ages 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge IGCSE English as a Second Language (0510)

Reading, writing, listening and speaking are each assessed, with the speaking test reported separately from the overall grade under this code. Written tasks are set in defined forms for stated audiences, which is why task fulfilment has to be marked apart from accuracy. Component structures and timings have been revised in recent exam years, so confirm the current list for your child's exam year on cambridgeinternational.org.

In Dubai the 0510 cohort includes many students taught in English since primary who speak another language at home. That profile produces strong listening and reading with weaker written register, and the evidence trail tends to show it within the first two marked tasks.

0500Ages 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge IGCSE English as a First Language (0500)

The entry a strong 0510 candidate sometimes moves to. Two written papers, no listening or speaking inside the grade, and a far heavier analytical demand: summary point selection and explanation of a writer's language choices. The evidence from a 0510 writing folder is the fairest basis for deciding whether that move is realistic.

Dubai departments decide entry at subject level, often in Year 9. If a change is worth raising, raise it early: UAE centres enter candidates for the Cambridge June series, with the November series available as the resit route, and final entry closes months before the first paper. Your exams officer works to a spring deadline for June, and the confirmed date is printed on the statement of entry rather than guessed at. Leaving a tier or subject change until the term the papers fall in usually means it cannot be made at all.

Cambridge International AS Level English General Paper

A progression option for students who want to keep writing as an academic skill without taking literature. Essays are judged on argument and control of written English, so the habits built during a 0510 writing block transfer directly. Students who leave 0510 without those habits usually have to buy them back at a higher rate later.

For Ministry of Education equivalency on the British track, students must show one accredited subject at Advanced Level at no less than grade E, or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade, alongside five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects. Arabic and Islamic education are not counted among those five.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

The list below is ordered by how much a 0510 record tells you about the subject beside it. In several cases the English evidence predicts the problem before the other department notices it.

English as a Second Language (0510)

Cambridge IGCSE

The page's subject. Four skills, four error patterns, speaking reported separately from the grade. The marked writing folder is the richest evidence source in the subject because task fulfilment, register and accuracy fail independently of one another.

English as a Second Language, Count-in Speaking (0511)

Cambridge IGCSE

Same subject, speaking counted into the grade. Where a school has entered this code, the recorded speaking evidence stops being a coaching aid and becomes the record for a component that carries marks.

English Literature (0475)

Cambridge IGCSE

Demanding for a 0510 candidate, because sustained argument about a writer's method sits above the language level 0510 requires. A 0510 writing folder usually predicts within two tasks whether literature is realistic alongside it.

Global Perspectives (0457)

Cambridge IGCSE

Research and written argument assessed through school-supervised components. Evidence of the student's own drafting matters here more than anywhere else on their timetable, and a tutor's role stays strictly on the questioning side.

Arabic as a First Language (0508)

Cambridge IGCSE

For Arab students in Dubai this runs alongside the mandatory Arabic provision and competes for the same study evenings as 0510 writing. Scheduling evidence matters: a plan that ignores the Arabic workload will not survive a term.

Islamiyat (0493)

Cambridge IGCSE

Taken by some Dubai candidates alongside the mandatory Islamic Education provision. Written answers reward precision and structure, so the control a student builds in 0510 writing shows up in marked work here within weeks.

History (0470)

Cambridge IGCSE

Source questions and extended answers expose written weakness quickly. A 0510 student who has learned to answer the question asked, rather than to write everything known, usually gains history marks without extra history teaching.

Chemistry (0620)

Cambridge IGCSE

Command words decide marks: state, describe, explain and compare each want something different. Two sessions of command-word work inside an English plan is often better value than a separate chemistry tutor for the same symptom.

Economics (0455)

Cambridge IGCSE

Evaluation is a writing skill before it is an economics one. Students who can hold two sides in a single controlled paragraph for a 0510 report task transfer that quickly, and the next marked class test is where it shows.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Each shape below exists to produce a particular kind of evidence. Choose by the question you want answered rather than by how many hours a week sounds reasonable.

Marked-task cycle with versions kept

One written task between sessions in a defined form for a stated audience, marked against the task's own demands, then rebuilt live and kept as a second version. Task fulfilment and register are scored apart from accuracy, because a candidate can write clean sentences and still answer the wrong brief. Over a term the folder becomes the progress report.

  • One task marked in full between every pair of sessions
  • Task fulfilment, register and accuracy judged separately
  • Both versions retained in one document for comparison
  • Models written on a different topic, never on the student's own task

Recorded speaking block

Short sessions on unseen topics, twice a week for three to five sessions, with two brief recordings kept so a student can hear their own development. The measure is simple and visible: how long an answer runs before it needs a prompt. Recording happens only with consent, the purpose is stated, and anything kept can be deleted on request.

  • Thirty-minute sessions, frequency over duration
  • Unseen prompts rather than rehearsed answers
  • Two short recordings per block, consent first
  • Measured by developed answer length and prompts needed

Post-mock diagnostic pair

Two sessions aimed at one question: which of the four skills is actually costing the grade. The first reads the school's marked mock in detail and sets a replacement task under our own conditions; the second marks it and reports. Families use this to decide whether to commit to a term, and sometimes the answer is that they should not.

  • Starts from the school's own marked mock paper
  • One replacement task set and marked under stated conditions
  • Ends in a written finding, not a sales conversation
  • Two sessions, fixed, with no obligation to continue

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai

01

What a 0510 home tutor in Dubai means here, and how it is delivered

A Cambridge IGCSE English Second Language 0510 home tutor in Dubai, as families use the phrase, means private one-to-one English support arranged outside school for a Year 10 or Year 11 candidate. The word home describes where parents picture the lesson, not a feature of the teaching. What they are actually buying is undivided attention on four separately assessed skills, and a way of knowing whether that attention is working.

Our answer is lessons delivered one-to-one on live video to Dubai households, with a record kept of everything marked. IB Gram does not send tutors to addresses in the UAE; home visits are a service we run only in India, and no sentence on this site should imply otherwise. What a Dubai family gains in exchange is twofold: the tutor is chosen for familiarity with the 0510 components rather than for living nearby, and every marked task, recording and review stays in one place you can open.

The difference shows in the first fortnight. A visiting tutor with general English experience typically starts with a textbook unit and a conversation. A 0510 specialist starts with the school's marked work, identifies which of reading, writing, listening or speaking is costing the grade, and sets one task under controlled conditions to confirm it. Both approaches fill an hour. Only the second produces a finding, and a finding is the thing you can act on when deciding how many sessions to buy.

Ask any tutor you are considering what will exist on paper after two weeks. If the answer is a feeling about how the lessons are going, the price is irrelevant.

02

The evidence each 0510 skill produces

Because the four skills fail independently, the record has to be kept separately for each. The table below shows what a session produces, how movement is measured and when each strand is reviewed. None of it involves percentages, predicted grades or any figure we would have to invent. All of it is either the student's own work or a count of something observable, such as how many prompts a spoken answer needed before it developed.

The listening row is the one parents find most surprising. Attempting the same recording twice, a fortnight apart, is not a memory test; the questions are re-answered after the trap types have been taught, and the comparison shows whether the student now hears the self-correction or still takes the first number offered. It is the cheapest diagnostic in the subject and almost nobody runs it, because it requires keeping the first attempt rather than marking and discarding it.

The writing row carries the most weight. A 0510 written task is marked on what the task demanded as well as on accuracy, so a student can produce grammatically clean prose that answers a slightly different brief and lose marks they never knew existed. Keeping both versions of the same task in one document makes that visible to a parent in about thirty seconds, which is faster than any report could explain it. The reading row works the same way: a loss recorded with its question type beside it turns a disappointing score into a short list of habits to break.

03

The writing folder: email, report and article tasks in versions

0510 written tasks come in defined forms for defined readers, which is what makes them teachable and what makes them easy to fail quietly. An article for a school magazine, an email to a head teacher and a report for a youth group want different registers, and a candidate who writes all three in the same comfortable voice will lose task marks while their sentences stay correct. Marking has to separate those judgements or it teaches the wrong lesson.

The folder we keep for a Dubai student therefore holds each task twice, with three notes attached: whether the brief was fulfilled, whether the register matched the reader, and what the accuracy pattern was. After four tasks the pattern is usually unmistakable. A student might consistently fulfil the brief and consistently drift in register, which is a thirty-minute fix repeated three times rather than a term of general English.

Modelling is handled carefully, and the rule is written down because it matters. A tutor may write a model answer on a different topic to show the form. A tutor may not write sentences for the task the student is submitting, and may not improve the student's own text by adding their own writing to it. Families sometimes expect the second thing and are surprised to be refused. The refusal is the point: a folder improved by somebody else is evidence of nothing and risk for the candidate. A model on an unrelated topic teaches the form just as well and leaves the student's own text untouched.

04

Speaking: recorded practice, and what development sounds like

Under 0510 the speaking test is reported separately from the overall grade, which leads some Dubai families to ignore it and some schools to treat it lightly. The skill being assessed is development: taking an unfamiliar prompt and building a real answer without rehearsed phrases. That is trainable, and it is the strand where recorded evidence persuades a student fastest, because hearing yourself stop after one sentence is more convincing than being told you do.

A speaking block runs as short sessions twice a week rather than a weekly hour. Each starts with an unseen topic, pushes the student past their first full stop, and ends with a note on how many prompts were needed. Two brief recordings are kept across the block, with consent asked for first, the purpose stated, and deletion available on request. Nothing is recorded for a student who would rather not be, and the block works without it.

Progress here sounds specific rather than general. In week one a student answers in a sentence and waits. By week three the same student offers a reason, an example and an opinion without being asked for them. That is the change the component rewards, and it is also what transfers into every other subject's oral work. Where a school has entered 0511, the count-in speaking code, this strand stops being optional and the recorded evidence becomes considerably more valuable, because the component is then carrying marks rather than sitting beside them.

05

Travel minutes against lesson minutes in Dubai

The in-home question deserves a straight answer rather than a dismissal. A visiting tutor in Dubai is selling an hour of teaching plus a journey that nobody enjoys and somebody pays for. Bestimate's 2026 survey puts in-home one-to-one visits at AED 180-350 an hour, with independent home tutors reaching AED 500, against AED 150-300 for a qualified online subject tutor, where Unitors publishes a floor of AED 150. The gap is mostly road.

The table below is the version of that argument a parent can test against their own week. The journeys are real pairings we are asked about, the drive times are ordinary term-time afternoons rather than worst cases, and the third column is the part that never appears in a quote: the paid minutes that disappear when a tutor arrives late, leaves early for the next booking, or cancels because of weather or a school event.

The last row is the honest counterpoint. Inside a single community such as Jumeirah Village Circle, travel is barely a factor, and an in-home arrangement is perfectly sensible on logistics. What you are choosing then is the tutor pool: whoever lives in JVC and is free at that hour, rather than whoever knows the 0510 components best. For a four-skill language paper that is a meaningful narrowing, and it is the reason we do not sell home visits in the UAE even where the drive would be short. Judge the choice on who marks the work, not on how far they live from your gate.

06

The four-session review a parent can audit

At four sessions a written review goes to the parent. It names the skill that was weakest at the start, shows the first and latest version of one written task, states which listening trap types have stopped catching the student, records how many prompts a spoken answer now needs, and makes a recommendation. The recommendation has three honest options: continue as planned, reduce to a narrower cycle, or stop because the specific failure has been repaired.

What the review deliberately does not contain is a predicted grade. A prediction built from four sessions would be a guess with a decimal point attached, and your child's school already issues predicted and forecast grades, which are the figures that carry weight with Cambridge. Nor does it contain satisfaction scores, star ratings or percentage improvements. Every number in it is either a count of something observable or a mark from a task you can read yourself.

Reviews that recommend stopping are a normal outcome, not a rare one. A 0510 candidate whose written register has been corrected and whose listening traps have gone may need nothing more this academic year, and saying so costs us a booking. It is also the only position consistent with a page built on auditable evidence: a record that can only ever justify more sessions is marketing with a spreadsheet attached. Parents who want the review earlier can ask for it at two sessions, and some do, usually the ones paying for two children at once.

07

Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies alongside 0510

No tutoring plan for a Dubai student survives contact with the timetable unless it accounts for the mandatory UAE subjects. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are required in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum, and KHDA's requirements were to be implemented by the start of the 2025-26 academic year, or April 2026 for schools whose year begins in April. These are not optional enrichment lessons; they carry timetable allocation and homework.

The organisational rules are specific enough to matter to a parent. KHDA requires separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, and states that combined classes for both groups are strictly prohibited because curriculum expectations and the language of instruction differ. Instructional time is calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit, schools may vary lesson length provided weekly totals are met, and it is advised that any mandatory subject lesson runs at least 25 minutes.

Two further points shape how this content may be taught. Schools are required to ensure that all teachers of Islamic Education and Arabic hold the appropriate approval KHDA requires to teach those subjects. And for the mandatory subjects, the use of any different or additional content without prior permission from the Ministry of Education is strictly prohibited, which is why a tutoring plan should work around these lessons rather than attempt to supplement their material. The federal position behind all of this is that private schools must follow Arabic, social studies and Islamic studies requirements whatever curriculum they licence.

The evidence a language tutor must never create

Everything described on this page is evidence of a student's own work. There is one category we will not generate: any part of a text that gets submitted. Where a Dubai school uses a supervised component, the work must be the candidate's own, produced under the school's conditions, and authenticated by the school. A tutor who adds sentences has not raised the mark; they have put the entry at risk and handed the school an authentication it cannot stand behind.

The legitimate space is wide and worth stating positively. A tutor may teach the form, write a model on an unrelated topic, explain what the task demands in plain language, question a draft until the student finds the weakness themselves, and mark practice work that will never be handed in. All of that leaves a record. None of it touches the submitted text. Our tutors are instructed to refuse the second thing even when a parent asks for it directly.

Machine-generated prose belongs in the same category by a newer route. Discussing why a generated paragraph reads as generic against the assessment expectations is useful teaching. Supplying it as the student's work is the same breach as writing it yourself. At least one provider visible in this market sells completed assessed work outright, at a published price; if that is offered for your child, decline it and tell the school, because the consequences land on the candidate alone. A grade obtained that way is also worthless to the student who has to sit the next qualification without the skill.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across Dubai

These are the Dubai communities where the in-home question comes up most, because they sit far enough out that a visiting tutor's drive is a real cost and a real reliability risk.

Jumeirah Village Circle

Dense, apartment-heavy and multilingual, with a large Year 10 and 11 population spread across several nearby schools. Internal roads are slow, so even a short in-home journey arrives late; evening video slots after 7pm fill first here.

Town Square

Far enough along Al Qudra Road that an afternoon drive from central Dubai takes most of an hour in term time. Families here were among the earliest to move English support online, and they ask the sharpest questions about what the record contains.

Mudon

Villa community with a young secondary cohort and limited local specialist supply. The useful artefact here is the written task folder, because parents are often comparing two schools' expectations after a recent move.

Damac Hills

Spread out, with school runs going in several directions. A visiting tutor can rarely fit two households in one afternoon, which is why quotes to this community sit at the upper end of the published in-home band.

Motor City and Dubai Sports City

A tight cluster of schools and a high proportion of 0510 entries. Students here often read and listen well and lose marks on written register, which is a two-task diagnosis rather than a term-long project.

Remraam and Dubailand

The communities where cancellation risk matters most: a single sandstorm or school event removes a visiting tutor's session entirely, while a video slot moves by twenty minutes. Continuity is the evidence advantage families cite here.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Confirm the code, then send marked work

0510 and 0511 handle speaking differently, and 0500 is a different subject. The code is on the entry sheet. Send it with one marked written task and, if there is one, the latest marked mock, because those two documents set the baseline that everything afterwards is measured against.

  2. 02

Free trial lesson with a task attached

Sixty minutes at no cost and no card details, built around one skill rather than a tour of the subject. You should be able to tell afterwards whether the tutor diagnosed something or simply taught a nice lesson. If the match is wrong, we propose somebody else instead of defending the choice.

  3. 03

Set the baseline under our own conditions

One task written to time under stated conditions, marked with task fulfilment, register and accuracy separated. For transferring students this matters doubly, because two schools' marking rarely agrees and a baseline nobody can dispute is the only fair starting point for targets.

  4. 04

Run the cycle and keep the versions

Task set, task marked, task rebuilt, both versions kept in one document. The listening cycle and the speaking block run alongside it as needed, each with their own record. Nothing is reported that cannot be shown, and anything recorded is recorded with consent.

  5. 05

Review at four sessions, and act on it

A written review comparing start and latest, naming what has stopped going wrong, with one of three recommendations: continue, narrow, or stop. If the answer is stop, that is what it says. Families who want to pause for travel or Ramadan keep their slot and are charged for nothing that does not happen.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The record is auditable by a parent

Two versions of each written task, both listening attempts, the speaking recordings and a plain-language review. You can check a claim about progress against the work itself rather than against a tutor's account of their own hour.

Four skills tracked separately

Reading, writing, listening and speaking fail independently in 0510, so a single impression of how English is going cannot find the leak. Keeping four records costs a little administration and locates the problem in a fortnight instead of a term.

Listening attempted twice, not marked and discarded

Re-answering the same recording after the trap types have been taught is the cheapest diagnostic in the subject, and it only works if the first attempt was kept. Almost nobody does this, which is why so many 0510 candidates lose listening marks without knowing why.

Consent handled properly for a minor's work

Speaking recordings happen only with consent, the purpose is stated, and deletion is available on request. Lead forms say what is collected and why, with a privacy link on every page, in line with the UAE's personal data protection law.

Online delivery, said plainly

Every UAE session is one-to-one on live video in Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; that service runs only in India. The gain is the choice of specialist and the continuity of the record, and the trade is stated rather than hidden.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

Will a 0510 tutor come to our house in Town Square or Mudon?+

No. IB Gram does not send tutors to addresses anywhere in the UAE; in-home visits are a service we run only in India. Dubai sessions are one-to-one on live video in Gulf Standard Time. For communities out along Al Qudra Road the trade is favourable: an ordinary term-time drive from central Dubai takes most of an hour, which is why published in-home rates there sit at the top of the AED 180-500 band, and why a visiting tutor is drawn from whoever happens to live nearby.

What should we have in writing after four 0510 sessions?+

A review naming the skill that was weakest at the start, one written task shown in its first and latest version, a note on which listening traps no longer catch your child, a count of how many prompts a spoken answer now needs, and a recommendation to continue, narrow or stop. It will not contain a predicted grade, a satisfaction score or a percentage improvement, because none of those could be produced honestly from four sessions. Everything in it is either observable or readable by you.

How do you prove listening has improved rather than just saying so?+

By keeping the first attempt. The student answers a recording, the trap types that caught them are taught, and a fortnight later the same recording is answered again. The comparison shows whether the self-correction is now heard, whether the second number is taken rather than the first, and whether distractors still pull the answer. It costs nothing except the discipline of not discarding the original paper, and it is the cheapest diagnostic available in this subject.

Why mark task fulfilment separately from grammar in 0510 writing?+

Because they fail independently and the repair is different. 0510 written tasks are set in defined forms for defined readers, so an article, an email to a head teacher and a report all want different registers. A candidate can produce grammatically clean prose that answers a slightly different brief and lose marks without any error being visible. Separating the judgements shows a parent in seconds whether the problem is accuracy, register or reading the task, and each of those takes a different number of sessions.

Do you record my child's speaking practice, and who keeps it?+

Only with consent, and only two short recordings across a speaking block. We state the purpose before anything is recorded, keep it for the block, and delete it on request. A student who would rather not be recorded can still do the block; the measure is how long an answer develops before a prompt, which a tutor can note without any audio. Our lead forms also state what is collected and why, with a privacy link on every page, under the UAE's personal data protection framework.

Can you work from the mock paper our school has already marked?+

That is the preferred starting point. A marked mock shows what the department credited and what it let pass, which is more useful than any conversation. The post-mock diagnostic pair exists for exactly this: one session to read the mock in detail and set a replacement task under our own conditions, one to mark it and report a finding. Some families take that finding and decide no further sessions are needed, which is a legitimate outcome and sometimes the right one.

My child just changed schools in Dubai. Which marking do we trust?+

Neither, at first. Transfers are common across Dubai's private sector and two schools' expectations rarely align, so a student can arrive looking stronger or weaker than they are. The fair move is to set one task to time under stated conditions and mark it against the syllabus demands, producing a baseline neither school's grading can explain away. Targets are then set from that baseline. It costs one session and prevents a term of work aimed at the wrong skill.

How does the mandatory Arabic workload affect a 0510 plan?+

It decides what is realistic on a weeknight. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are required in all Dubai private schools whatever the licensed curriculum, with KHDA calculating instructional time on a 40-minute lesson unit and requiring separate classes for Arab and non-Arab students. That is real homework competing for the same evenings as English practice. We schedule timed written tasks for weekend mornings for this reason, and keep weeknight sessions for marking and rebuilding.

Can a tutor help write my child's supervised written work?+

No, and the refusal is deliberate even when a parent asks directly. Supervised work must be the candidate's own, produced under the school's conditions and authenticated by the school. A tutor may teach the form, write a model on an unrelated topic, explain what the task demands, question a draft until the student locates the weakness, and mark practice work that is never handed in. Adding sentences to a submitted text puts the entry at risk and leaves the school unable to stand behind its authentication.

What if my child uses an AI tool to draft a task?+

Then the useful lesson is critique rather than concealment. A tutor can show why a generated paragraph reads as generic against what the task demands, where the register slips, and which sentences no sixteen-year-old would write. What a tutor must not do is supply that text as the student's work, which is the same breach as writing it for them by a newer route. If a provider offers finished assessed work for your child, decline it and tell the school; the consequences fall on the candidate.

How many prompts should a 0510 speaking answer need by the end of a block?+

Fewer than at the start, and that is the honest version of the target. In week one a typical student answers in one sentence and waits. By week three the same student usually offers a reason, an example and an opinion without being asked for each. We record the count rather than a score, because the component rewards development and a count is something you can check. Anyone promising a specific speaking grade from a three-week block is selling certainty that does not exist.

Does the record transfer if we switch tutors inside IB Gram?+

Yes, and that is one practical reason for keeping it. The written task folder, both listening attempts, the speaking notes and the four-session review go to the next tutor, so a new specialist starts from the baseline rather than from a blank page. Families who have moved between independent tutors in Dubai usually describe the opposite experience: a fresh diagnostic hour paid for twice. Continuity of the record is worth more than continuity of the person.

Is online as effective as a tutor in the room for a speaking component?+

For speaking it is arguably better, because the thing being trained is talk and the thing that limits progress is who you are talking to. Live video lets a Dubai family work with somebody who can hold an unscripted conversation pitched just above the student's comfort level, rather than with whoever is free locally. Recording a short extract is also easier, and hearing your own hesitation is the fastest route to removing it. We do not offer in-home sessions in the UAE at all.

What happens to the evidence trail if we stop for a term?+

It waits, intact. The folder, both listening attempts and the review stay available, the slot is held where we can, and nothing is charged for sessions that do not take place. When you come back, the first session re-tests the weakest skill rather than reviewing everything, which usually takes one session instead of three. Families pause for travel, for exam periods in other subjects and for Ramadan, and the record is what makes restarting cheap.

Ask to see the first week's evidence before committing to a term

Send the syllabus code from the entry sheet and one marked written task. We will name which of the four 0510 skills is costing the grade, set one task under stated conditions to confirm it, and show you both versions once it is marked. The trial lesson is free, runs sixty minutes, and needs no card details. Sessions after that are one-to-one on live video to your household in Dubai, in Gulf Standard Time, with a written review at four sessions that is allowed to tell you to stop.
