Best IGCSE Tutor in Dubai

Parents looking for the best IGCSE tutor in Dubai are usually asking one practical question: how will I know this is working? This page answers it with evidence instead of adjectives, which means a marked script, the mark-scheme reference beside each lost mark, a coursework draft carrying written comments, and a dated record of what the October mock produced against the February one. Lessons run live and one to one over video on Gulf Standard Time, and the first is a thirty-minute trial with no card details taken.

  • Every script marked against the published Cambridge or Pearson mark scheme
  • A dated diagnostic paper before lesson one, not after lesson four
  • Live one-to-one video lessons timed to Gulf Standard Time
  • Thirty-minute trial lesson, no card details, no minimum booking

IB & IGCSE in Dubai

Judge an IGCSE tutor the way an examiner judges a script

Dubai has one of the densest concentrations of IGCSE candidates outside the United Kingdom, and a tutoring market built to match it. A search for the best IGCSE tutor in Dubai returns dozens of near-identical promises, almost none of which can be checked by a parent. What can be checked is evidence. A script marked against the published mark scheme can be checked. A list of the exact command words your child misread can be checked. A dated comparison between the October mock and the February one can be checked, because the same paper was sat twice and the marks are either higher or they are not.

That is the standard this page is built on. A tutor who cannot show you a marked piece of your child's own work after four sessions is not teaching to the assessment. They are revisiting topics and hoping. Cambridge and Pearson both publish, for every syllabus, precisely what each mark is awarded for. A tutor working inside that document can tell you in one sentence why a six-mark answer scored three: no unit on the final line, a calculation shown but not stated, a comparison asked for and a description given. A tutor working from memory of the subject cannot do that, however well they know the physics.

Local context shapes what a tutor is working with. The Dubai Media Office reported 387,441 pupils across 227 private schools for 2024-25, offering seventeen curricula, with UK-curriculum schools accounting for 37 per cent of that enrolment and the International Baccalaureate 7 per cent. KHDA, the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, is responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate, and inspects those schools annually on a six-band scale running from Outstanding down to Very Weak. Your child sits in one set, in one school, following one scheme of work, and a tutor who is any use starts by finding out which.

Evidence also settles the question parents find hardest, which is when to stop. If a marked paper arrives every fortnight, the decision becomes arithmetic rather than instinct. Grade 5 in November, grade 6 on the January mock, a Paper 2 score that has moved eleven marks on the same style of question: that is a reason to continue for one more term and then review. Four months of sessions that produced no marked work and a general sense of growing confidence is not evidence of anything, and it is the commonest way Dubai families spend two thousand dirhams a month without learning whether it helped.

One point of fact before anything else on this page. IB Gram delivers tuition to Dubai families as one-to-one lessons over live video. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai, because a tutor arriving at a residential address is a service we run only in India. That is a deliberate trade rather than a limitation we are hiding: a Dubai Hills family gets the Chemistry 0620 specialist who can mark an alternative-to-practical script properly, instead of whichever tutor is a twenty-minute drive away at six in the evening on a Tuesday.

At a glance

  • A marked script with mark-scheme references, not a verbal summary
  • Syllabus codes named up front: 0580, 0620, 0625, 4MA1, 4PH1
  • A fortnightly written note of what moved and what did not
  • Session times set on Gulf Standard Time around the school run
  • One named tutor your child keeps, rather than a rota

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Four stages matter for a Dubai IGCSE family, and the evidence a tutor should produce is different at each one. Year 9 is about diagnosis before tier entry. Years 10 and 11 are about marks on papers. The retake and private-candidate route is about administration as much as teaching. Post-16 is about the gap between an IGCSE grade and an A Level or Diploma start.

Y9Ages 13-14 · Year 9

Cambridge Lower Secondary and Checkpoint

The year before IGCSE begins is the cheapest year to fix anything. Checkpoint tests sit in March, May and October and give a school a cohort-referenced picture rather than a grade, which makes them useful diagnostically and easy to ignore. Algebraic fluency, scientific vocabulary and the habit of answering the question asked are what carry forward; topic knowledge from Year 9 largely does not.

Dubai schools use the Year 9 data to set tiers and sets for Year 10, so a weak Checkpoint result has consequences that last two years. Where a child has moved mid-year between a UK-curriculum school and an Indian or American one, the Year 9 maths gap is usually sequencing rather than ability, and three or four sessions on index laws and rearrangement close most of it.

COREAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

IGCSE Core tier, Years 10-11

Cambridge builds Core papers to award grades C to G, so the tier itself places a ceiling on the outcome. Core candidates sit a different, shorter set of papers, and the arithmetic and comprehension demands are lower rather than the thinking demands. The evidence to watch is whether your child is scoring near the top of the Core range, because that is the signal that a tier conversation with the school is overdue.

Dubai schools decide tier entry at different points, some provisionally in Year 10 and some only weeks before the entry deadline. A tutor's job on a Core page is unglamorous: build the number work until the Extended ceiling becomes a live option, and give the school something concrete to look at when the head of department asks why the tier should change.

EXTAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

IGCSE Extended tier, Years 10-11

Extended papers are built to award grades A* to E and carry the content a sixth form will assume. The mark loss here is rarely about topics never taught. It is about multi-step questions where the first step is unmarked, about graphs drawn without labelled axes, and about extended-response questions answered as a list of true statements with no comparison in them.

Most Dubai British-curriculum schools enter the majority of a year group for Extended across maths and the sciences, which means a child who is struggling is often sitting a paper pitched above their current working speed. The fix is timed practice on single papers with the mark scheme open afterwards, not more content delivery, and the marked scripts are the proof that the approach is working.

RETAKEAges 15-19 · Post-Year 11

Retakes and private candidates

A student can re-sit an IGCSE subject in a later series, and Cambridge runs June and November series while Pearson Edexcel offers International GCSE in May/June and November. Entering as a private candidate means finding a centre that accepts external entries, meeting the centre's own earlier internal deadline, and handling coursework or practical components that the centre may not offer at all.

Dubai has several examination centres that accept private candidates, and each sets its own closing date ahead of the board's final entry deadline. Where a subject carries a coursework component, the practical choice is usually a syllabus route assessed entirely by written paper. We will tell a family which of their shortlisted subjects is realistic as a private entry before any teaching is booked.

Subject coverage

IB subjects we tutor

These are the subjects Dubai families ask for most often, with the syllabus code and the place where the marks actually go missing. The code matters: Cambridge 0580 and Cambridge 0607 are different maths qualifications with different papers, and a tutor who does not ask which one your child sits is guessing at the syllabus.

Mathematics (Cambridge 0580)

Core and Extended

Two written papers, one without a calculator. Extended marks are lost on multi-step problems where candidates jump to the answer, on bounds and rounding, and on transformations described in words rather than with a matrix or vector. The repair is working shown line by line until method marks become automatic.

International Mathematics (Cambridge 0607)

Core and Extended

A graphic-display-calculator syllabus with an investigation paper that 0580 does not have. Students moving in from 0580 lose marks because they do not use the calculator's solver and regression tools, and because the investigation rewards a stated generalisation that most candidates leave implied.

Physics (Cambridge 0625)

Core and Extended

Electricity and waves produce the heaviest losses. Series and parallel circuits are answered by pattern-matching rather than by applying the rules, and ray diagrams lose marks for missing arrows and unlabelled normals. The alternative-to-practical paper is a separate skill: reading a scale, tabulating with units in the heading, and writing a conclusion that refers to the data.

Chemistry (Cambridge 0620)

Core and Extended

Moles, electrolysis and organic reaction conditions are the three reliable mark sinks. Candidates write a correct balanced equation then fail to state the state symbols, or describe a test for a gas without naming the observation. Six-mark questions need a structured answer, not a recalled paragraph.

Biology (Cambridge 0610)

Core and Extended

The content is learnable and the marks are lost on precision. Osmosis answers that say water moves to where there is more salt, transpiration answers that omit the stomata, and genetics crosses drawn without a key all cost marks that the candidate's understanding deserved. Command-word discipline moves this grade faster than revision does.

Coordinated Sciences (Cambridge 0654)

Double award, Core and Extended

Three sciences compressed into a double award, which makes time management the whole problem. Students revise the discipline they like and arrive at the paper having not practised the other two. A tutor's useful contribution is a rotation that forces equal paper time across biology, chemistry and physics content.

English as a First Language (Cambridge 0500)

IGCSE

Directed writing and the extended-response reading question carry the risk. Candidates summarise when asked to analyse effect, and quote long passages instead of short phrases. Marks come back quickly once a student practises writing about the writer's choices rather than retelling what happened.

English as a Second Language (Cambridge 0510)

IGCSE

A different qualification from 0500, with listening and speaking components and tighter, more mechanical reading tasks. Mark loss clusters in the note-making and summary questions, where candidates lift whole sentences from the text, and in writing tasks where the register asked for is ignored.

Economics (Cambridge 0455)

IGCSE

Diagram accuracy and command words decide the grade. An analysis question answered with definitions scores the definition marks and nothing else. Students who label axes correctly, shift the right curve and then explain the new equilibrium in one sentence pick up marks their classmates leave on the table.

Business Studies (Cambridge 0450)

IGCSE

Case-study application is the whole game. Generic answers about motivation or cash flow score low even when the theory is right, because the mark scheme rewards use of the data in the stem. Evaluation questions need a judgement with a reason, which most candidates never write.

IGCSE coverage

IGCSE subjects we tutor

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs alongside Cambridge in Dubai, and several schools enter different departments with different boards. These are the Edexcel codes families ask about most, with what differs in practice.

Mathematics A (Pearson 4MA1)

Foundation and Higher tier

Two equally weighted papers, both with a calculator, tiered rather than Core and Extended. Students transferring from Cambridge 0580 find the non-calculator demand gone and the question wording longer, which shifts the mark loss towards reading the question.

Physics (Pearson 4PH1)

International GCSE

Two written papers with no separate practical paper; practical skills are assessed inside the written questions. The formula sheet position differs from Cambridge, so a student who has memorised which equations are given can be caught out by a straight transfer between boards.

Chemistry (Pearson 4CH1)

International GCSE

Similar content to Cambridge 0620 with a different balance of extended response and a distinct approach to organic nomenclature. Candidates lose marks on the quantitative questions, where Edexcel asks for more steps per question than many students have practised.

Biology (Pearson 4BI1)

International GCSE

Two papers, with experiment design appearing in the written components. The practical-method questions reward specific apparatus and a stated control variable, and those are the marks Dubai candidates most often leave blank.

English Language A (Pearson 4EA1)

International GCSE

An anthology-based route that rewards knowing a small number of texts in detail. Students who revise the anthology as content rather than as evidence for an argument hit a ceiling around the middle grades.

Economics (Pearson 4EC1)

International GCSE

More data response than Cambridge 0455 and a heavier emphasis on calculation from tables. The marks sit in interpreting the figure given, not in reciting the definition that accompanies it.

Business (Pearson 4BS1)

International GCSE

Two papers across business concepts and business functions, both case-study driven. Mark loss is concentrated in the longest questions, where a judgement is required and candidates produce two balanced paragraphs and no conclusion.

History (Pearson 4HI1)

International GCSE

Source work and depth studies. Candidates describe sources instead of using them, and write narrative when asked to explain significance. Marked practice on two questions a week is worth more than another read of the textbook.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways families use us, all delivered over live video. The choice is really about how much marked work you want produced each week and how close the exam series is.

Weekly one-to-one, evidence-led

One or two sixty-minute sessions a week on a single subject, with a marked piece of work every fortnight and a short written note of what moved. This is the pattern most Year 10 families start with, because it produces a record before the first school report rather than after it.

  • Diagnostic paper marked before lesson one
  • A fortnightly marked script with mark-scheme references
  • A written note naming the next two targets
  • Same tutor, same slot, Gulf Standard Time

Exam-series sprint

A fixed block of sessions counted backwards from the exam window, built around timed papers rather than topics. Each session takes one paper, marks it live, and converts the losses into a short list of drills. Families usually book these from January for a June series.

  • Whole papers under timed conditions
  • Live marking, so the reasoning is visible
  • A running log of recurring mark losses
  • Two subjects maximum, to keep the practice honest

Coursework and skills coaching

Where a syllabus carries a written or practical skills component, sessions focus on process: how to plan, how to read a mark descriptor, how to respond to a teacher's feedback. The work stays the student's own throughout, and a tutor never supplies text for an assessed submission.

  • Mark descriptors read line by line with the student
  • Feedback on the student's own draft, never a rewrite
  • Planning and time-boxing against the school's deadline
  • A record of what the student changed and why

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai

01

What parents actually mean by the best IGCSE tutor in Dubai

  • Syllabus code named before the first lesson
  • Marked work, with mark-scheme references, every fortnight
  • A written fortnightly note a parent can keep
  • A stated condition for stopping, agreed at the start

The phrase is a proxy. Almost nobody typing it is looking for a ranking; they are looking for a way to decide between people who all sound plausible. A useful answer replaces the superlative with four testable conditions: the tutor names the syllabus code, marks your child's work against the published mark scheme, gives you something written every fortnight, and tells you when the sessions should stop.

Those four conditions are deliberately boring, and that is the point. Each one is either satisfied or it is not, and a parent can check all four within a month for the cost of four lessons. Compare that with the claims that dominate this search, which are either unfalsifiable or quietly self-reported. A rating a platform awards itself tells you nothing. A marked script with eleven annotations on it tells you what your child cannot yet do.

Evidence also protects against the opposite error, which is continuing too long. Dubai families frequently keep a tutor for two academic years because stopping feels risky. If the fortnightly record shows a grade that moved from 4 to 6 and then sat still for three months, the honest reading is that the sessions have done their work and the remaining gap is classroom effort. A tutor who says that out loud is demonstrating the thing the search was looking for.

The rest of this page is built on that logic. It sets out what evidence to ask for and when, where IGCSE marks are genuinely lost, what the Dubai market charges, how online delivery compares with a tutor crossing the city, and the published exam-administration dates that make the whole plan time-bound rather than open-ended.

02

The evidence to ask for, and the answers that should worry you

Choosing a tutor is a short interview and most parents conduct it in the wrong direction, asking about qualifications and years of experience. Both are weak predictors. A stronger approach is to ask for the artefact rather than the credential: show me how you would mark this question, tell me which paper my child's lost marks are on, describe what you will send me after four weeks.

The table below turns that into five concrete requests, each paired with what it proves and the kind of reply that should give you pause. None of these requests is unreasonable and all of them can be made during a free trial lesson. A tutor who treats them as an imposition has told you something useful at no cost.

The timing column matters as much as the request. Asking for a marked script in week one is premature; asking for one in week eight is late enough that you have already spent two thousand dirhams finding out. The sequence below puts each question at the point where the answer is still cheap to act on, which is how a family keeps control of a decision that otherwise drifts by default.

One further request is worth making and is almost never made: ask who marks the work. On some platforms the person teaching and the person producing the written feedback are different, which is how a parent ends up with a tidy report that bears no relation to the lesson. One tutor, one script, one set of annotations is the arrangement that keeps the evidence honest.

Where IGCSE marks are genuinely lost, paper by paper

Most Dubai students who are stuck two grades below their target are not missing content. They are losing the same four or five kinds of mark across every paper they sit, and those losses are diagnosable from a single marked script. This is the part of tutoring that a school set of thirty cannot do, not because the teacher is weak but because thirty scripts a week do not permit a conversation about one student's habits.

The pattern repeats across subjects. A candidate reads a command word as a synonym for another: explain treated as describe, compare treated as list, suggest treated as recall. A calculation is performed correctly and the unit is left off. A graph is drawn well and the axes go unlabelled. An extended-response answer contains every correct fact and no structure, so the examiner can award content marks but not the marks reserved for development.

What makes these losses worth attacking first is their cost per hour of teaching. Fixing a command-word habit takes two or three sessions and applies to every paper the student will ever sit in that subject. Re-teaching a topic takes the same time and applies to the handful of marks that topic carries. On a sixty-mark paper, a student who stops losing method and precision marks typically recovers more than any single topic could give back.

The table lists the specific losses we see most often from Dubai candidates, with what a session actually does about each. Note how few of the entries are content. That ratio is the single most useful thing a parent can know before deciding what to buy.

A six-week evidence cycle, week by week

Progress is easiest to see when the measurement is planned in advance. The cycle we use runs six weeks, because that is long enough for a habit to change and short enough that a family can stop without feeling they have wasted a term. It starts with a marked baseline and ends with the same style of paper sat again under the same conditions.

Week one is diagnosis and it produces a number. A full past paper, timed, marked against the published scheme, with the losses sorted into content, method, precision and timing. Parents are often surprised by the split: a child who has been described as weak at chemistry turns out to have lost nineteen of thirty-one available marks to precision and timing and only six to content they had never been taught.

Weeks two to five attack the largest category first and produce one marked artefact each fortnight. The sixth week repeats a paper of the same style. Two numbers, six weeks apart, on comparable papers, is a measurement rather than an impression, and it is also the point at which a family should make a decision: continue with a new target, change subject, or stop because the gap left is classroom work.

Nothing in this cycle is proprietary and a parent can run it with any competent tutor. We publish it because the alternative, which dominates this market, is an open-ended arrangement where the only evidence of value is the next school report three months away.

What IGCSE tutoring costs in Dubai, and what each band buys

Dubai tutoring rates are published inconsistently and often in the wrong currency, which makes comparison hard. The bands below are market rates collected from published 2026 Dubai rate guides and from tutoring providers' own public pricing pages. They are not IB Gram's price list. What they are useful for is calibration: knowing which band a quote sits in tells you what the provider is selling.

The lowest band buys contact time with someone who knows the subject at the level above. That can work for a confident student who needs company while practising, and it does not usually buy mark-scheme marking, because marking a paper properly takes forty minutes and nobody does that for a sub-hundred-dirham hour. The specialist band buys someone who has taught the syllabus repeatedly and can tell you where this year's cohort loses marks.

Two costs are routinely left out of the comparison. Travel is one: an in-home visit has to price the drive, which is why market in-home rates sit above online ones for the same tutor quality. Marking is the other. If a quote does not include written feedback on your child's own work, the number is not comparable with one that does, however similar the hourly figure looks.

Our own model is published separately and begins with a free thirty-minute trial lesson, with no card details taken and no obligation to continue. We quote after that conversation, when the subject, tier and number of sessions are actually known, rather than printing a single rate that would be wrong for most families who read it.

Online lessons against a tutor driving across Dubai

This is the comparison that decides most Dubai bookings, and it is usually argued on feel rather than on the four variables that actually differ. Those are the size of the tutor pool a family can reach, what travel does to cost and punctuality, how easily marked work can be shared, and what happens when a session needs to move.

The tutor pool is the decisive one for IGCSE. A family in Dubai Marina looking for someone who has marked Physics 0625 alternative-to-practical scripts repeatedly is choosing from everybody available over video, not from the subset who will drive to Marina on a Wednesday at six. For common subjects at Core tier the difference is small. For Extended-tier separate sciences, a specific syllabus code or a minority language, it is the difference between a specialist and a generalist.

Travel is a real cost even when it is invisible. Published Dubai in-home rates sit above online rates for comparable tutors, and the gap is approximately the drive. Sheikh Zayed Road between four and seven in the evening converts a sixty-minute lesson into a two-hour commitment for the tutor, which is priced into the rate and also makes a cancelled session more likely in practice.

To be plain about what we sell: IB Gram delivers one-to-one lessons to Dubai families over live video, and home visits are a service we run only in India. The comparison below is offered so a family can weigh that honestly rather than discover it later, and there are cases in the left-hand column of the table where an in-home arrangement genuinely suits a family better.

The dates that make a tutoring plan time-bound

A plan without a date is a subscription. Exam administration gives you dates, and they sit much earlier than parents expect, because entries close months before papers are sat. Cambridge publishes key dates per series and Pearson publishes final and provisional timetables for each International GCSE series, and both are worth reading directly rather than taking a school's word for them.

Pearson's November 2026 International GCSE series is the clearest worked example of how early the administration runs, because every date in it is published rather than inferred: the final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026, and the results from the equivalent series a year earlier reached students on 22 January 2026. The entry that fixed those papers closed months before the first one was sat. Cambridge behaves the same way across the two series a UAE candidate can actually sit, June and November, with final entries closing months ahead of the papers and the exact day set per series and per timetable zone. The consequence is the same whichever board the school uses: the decision with the most leverage over a grade, which tier the candidate is entered at, is taken at entry, long before the revision a parent is usually watching.

Cambridge also allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones, and states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, because it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after the wrong zone timetable was used. For a Dubai family this is a question to ask the school's exams officer, not something to infer from a PDF found online.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE is available in May/June and November each year. Its November 2026 final timetable runs from late October to 19 November 2026; June 2026 results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Pearson publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series, so always work from the live official timetable rather than a date copied onto a tutoring page. IB session dates are deliberately not listed here, because we have not verified them against the IB's own published calendar.

Academic honesty: where coaching ends

  • Feedback on the student's own draft; no text supplied for submissions
  • Mark descriptors read with the student, not applied for them
  • Official syllabus and specimen material linked, never redistributed
  • No arrangement involving your child's own classroom teacher

This is the part of the market that needs saying plainly, because providers in this search sell completed coursework. A tutor teaches, explains, questions and gives feedback on work the student has produced. The submission must be the student's own, and the line is not a matter of taste; boards treat breaches as malpractice and the consequences land on the student, not on the tutor who was paid.

In practice the boundary is easy to hold once it is described concretely. Reading a mark descriptor with a student and asking them which band their paragraph meets is teaching. Explaining why a conclusion does not follow from the data is teaching. Supplying sentences that end up in a submission is not, and neither is restructuring a piece so thoroughly that the thinking becomes the tutor's. Our tutors work on the student's own draft and never provide text for an assessed piece.

There is a second boundary that matters in the UAE specifically. Abu Dhabi's professional-ethics rules for school staff have been reported as prohibiting teachers from giving paid private tuition to students enrolled at their own school, and the private tuition work permit carries a code of conduct that bars serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school. A family should therefore be cautious of an offer to arrange their child's own classroom teacher privately, whatever the emirate.

Published material carries its own rules. We reference and link to Cambridge, Pearson and IB documents, including syllabuses, specimen material and mark schemes, rather than reproducing or supplying them, because redistributing them is a copyright matter. Any tutor offering a drive full of past papers and mark schemes is solving a problem the official sites already solve legitimately.

Permits, regulators and what a KHDA rating does and does not tell you

Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit. The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation issues a private tuition work permit introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. It is granted free of charge for two years, and eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18 and university students. MoHRE's own service page lists a two-working-day completion time and applications through its smart app, website and e-services system.

Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit from MoHRE are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws. No fine schedule is published, so any page quoting a specific figure is guessing. The practical point for a parent is that asking a prospective tutor whether they hold the permit is a reasonable question with a verifiable answer, and the permit costs the tutor nothing to obtain.

Regulation of schools is separate and sits with each emirate. In Dubai that is KHDA, which oversees the quality of private education in the emirate and inspects annually across six bands from Outstanding to Very Weak. Abu Dhabi and Al Ain are regulated by ADEK, which supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools there; Sharjah by the Sharjah Private Education Authority; Ras Al Khaimah by its Department of Knowledge; and Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah by the federal Ministry of Education.

A school's inspection band is a statement about the school, not about your child's set. An Outstanding school can contain a bottom maths set taught by a teacher covering a vacancy, and a Good school can run the strongest separate-sciences department in the community. Read the report for the subject judgements and the comments on progress for different groups, which is where a parent can see something relevant to one child. Then compare it with the marked script in front of you, which is about your child specifically.

How this works in practice for a Dubai family

  • Diagnostic paper marked before any money is spent
  • Thirty-minute trial lesson, no card details taken
  • Two to three working days to match common IGCSE subjects
  • A decision point every six weeks, in writing

The sequence is short. A conversation establishes the subject, the syllabus code, the tier and what has already been tried. A diagnostic paper is set and marked. A tutor is proposed whose specialism matches the diagnosis, and a free thirty-minute trial lesson follows, with no card details taken. If the match is right the slot becomes weekly; if it is not, we propose someone else and the trial has cost the family nothing but half an hour.

Availability is disclosed rather than assumed. Common subjects at IGCSE level can usually be matched within two or three working days. Minority-language subjects, Additional Mathematics 0606 and some 0607 investigation work take longer, and occasionally the right specialist is in a different time zone, which affects which evening slots exist. We say so before a family commits rather than after, because a mismatched slot is the commonest reason a good arrangement quietly stops.

What a family receives on an ongoing basis is deliberately modest and concrete: a marked script every fortnight, a short written note naming the next two targets, and a decision prompt at the end of every six-week cycle. Nothing else is promised. No grade is promised either, by us or by anyone who is being straight with you, because the examiner marks the student's script and not the tutoring arrangement behind it.

Payment follows the sessions rather than the other way round, and we do not ask a family to commit to a term before a tutor has taught a lesson. If a slot stops working because the school has moved a fixture or a mock week has landed, the session moves with it; rescheduling a video lesson costs nobody a drive across the city. Where a family wants a parent sitting in for the first fortnight, particularly with a Year 10 student who is easily distracted, that is welcome and often useful, because the first three sessions are the ones where the diagnosis is still being tested.

Where we tutor

Dubai communities we teach into, and what a session looks like there

Lessons are delivered over video, so the area a family lives in changes the timetable rather than the tutor pool. What follows is the practical detail: which schools a community feeds, and when a session can realistically start once the school run, traffic and dinner are accounted for.

Dubai Marina and JLT

Apartment living, so a quiet room is the scarce resource rather than space. Families here feed into schools across Al Barsha and Umm Suqeim. Sessions from 17:00 work well; a 16:00 slot assumes a bus that is rarely on time.

Arabian Ranches and Dubai Hills Estate

Villa communities with short internal school runs and long commutes for parents. A 16:30 start is realistic in term time, and Year 11 families often prefer two shorter midweek sessions to one long weekend block before a mock series.

Mirdif and Al Warqa

A dense mix of British and Indian curriculum schools within a few kilometres. Many students here sit both Cambridge IGCSE and school-set internal exams on a different calendar, so session planning has to follow the school's assessment week, not the syllabus order.

Jumeirah, Umm Suqeim and Al Safa

Older established British-curriculum schools and a high proportion of Extended-tier entries. Requests cluster in English First Language 0500 and the separate sciences, usually from Year 10 families who want marked papers before the first formal report.

Al Barsha and Dubai Science Park

Several large all-through schools, which means big year groups and sets of thirty. Students who are quiet in class are the typical referral here, and the first session is usually diagnostic because the school report says little beyond a grade.

Downtown Dubai and Business Bay

Short school commutes and a high share of mid-year arrivals from other curricula. The useful first step is mapping what the previous school had covered against the Cambridge syllabus so that the gap is a list rather than a worry.

Dubai Silicon Oasis and Academic City

Families living beside the universities, often with an older sibling already through IGCSE. Expectations are concrete here and so is the brief: a named paper, a target grade band and a date. We plan these in six-week blocks against a marked baseline.

Jumeirah Village Circle and Sports City

Fast-growing communities with newer schools and smaller IGCSE cohorts, which sometimes means a subject is taught by a non-specialist. Where that happens, the tutor's role is to cover the syllabus properly rather than to supplement a strong class.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai

Jumeirah, Al Safa and Umm Suqeim

The longest-established British-curriculum cluster in Dubai, with large Extended-tier entries in maths and the separate sciences. Students we support from these schools most often ask for English First Language 0500 and Physics 0625 paper practice.

  • Jumeirah College
  • Dubai College
  • Dubai English Speaking College
  • Horizon English School
  • Safa British School
  • Jumeirah English Speaking School

Al Barsha, Dubai Hills and Dubai Science Park

Large all-through schools with year groups well into the hundreds, so sets are big and individual diagnosis is thin. Requests here are usually for Chemistry 0620 and Mathematics 0580, often starting with a marked past paper.

  • Kings' School Al Barsha
  • GEMS Wellington International School
  • Dubai Heights Academy
  • GEMS Founders School Al Barsha
  • Hartland International School

Arabian Ranches, Sports City and Motor City

Villa-community schools with strong UK-curriculum intakes and a steady flow of mid-year transfers. Coordinated Sciences 0654 and Business Studies 0450 come up more here than in the older coastal cluster.

  • JESS Arabian Ranches
  • Victory Heights Primary School
  • Sunmarke School
  • Dubai British School Jumeirah Park
  • Regent International School

Schools are named to describe the Dubai IGCSE landscape our students come from. No affiliation, endorsement or relationship with any school or school group is implied.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the code, not just the subject

The first message that helps says Cambridge 0580 Extended, Year 10, Al Barsha, losing marks on the non-calculator paper. That is enough to shortlist a tutor accurately. Subject alone is not, because 0580, 0607 and Pearson 4MA1 are three different qualifications with different papers and different demands.

  2. 02

Sit a diagnostic paper and have it marked

We set a full past paper under timed conditions and mark it against the published scheme, sorting the losses into content, method, precision and timing. This produces the baseline number everything later is measured against, and it frequently changes what a family thought the problem was.

  3. 03

Meet the proposed tutor in a trial lesson

A free thirty-minute session with the specific tutor proposed, not a sales call with a coordinator. No card details are taken and there is no obligation to continue. Use it to ask for the five pieces of evidence set out above and see how quickly each answer arrives.

  4. 04

Run a six-week cycle and read the two numbers

Weekly sessions, a marked script every fortnight, and a same-style paper repeated in week six. At that point you have two comparable marks and a written record of what changed. Continue with a new target, switch subject or stop, and the choice is based on something you can see.

  5. 05

    Re-plan against the exam calendar

Once a series is in view, the plan counts backwards from the published entry deadline and exam window rather than forwards from today. That usually moves work earlier than families expect, because Cambridge entry deadlines sit months before the first paper and tier decisions are made at that point.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Marked work, not reported progress

Every fortnight a parent receives their child's own script with annotations referring to the mark scheme. It takes a tutor forty minutes to produce and it is the only form of progress evidence that cannot be padded. A verbal account of a good session is not the same thing and should not be priced as if it were.

The specialist, not the nearest tutor

Because lessons are delivered over video, a family in Mirdif can work with the person who has marked Chemistry 0620 scripts for years rather than the person available locally on a Tuesday. For Extended-tier sciences and minority subjects that distinction decides the outcome more than anything else on this page.

A stated stopping condition

We agree at the start what would mean the sessions have done their job, and we raise it when the evidence says so. Tutoring that continues by default for two years is a commercial arrangement, not a plan, and families in Dubai pay a great deal for the difference between the two.

Honest availability

If no specialist is free in the slot a family needs, we say so and give a realistic date instead of booking a generalist into the gap. Minority-language subjects and some maths routes genuinely take longer to match, and knowing that in advance is worth more than a fast yes.

Figures that carry their source

Every AED band on this page is attributed to published market rates and dated, and every regulatory statement names the authority it comes from. Where something is not verified, such as IB session dates, we leave it out rather than publish a number that reads convincingly and may be wrong.

Coursework handled properly

Support on assessed work is process coaching on the student's own draft, and never the supply of text. This is the clearest difference between a tutoring service and the essay-writing providers that appear in the same search results, and it protects the student's result rather than putting it at risk.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

What evidence should I ask an IGCSE tutor for after the first month?+

Three things, all of which a competent tutor already has. First, the diagnostic paper your child sat at the start, marked, with a total. Second, at least one further marked script with annotations that reference the mark scheme rather than general comments. Third, a short written note naming the two specific targets for the next fortnight. If all three exist after four weeks, the arrangement is measurable and you can judge it. If none exists, you have bought contact time rather than teaching, and no amount of positive feedback from the sessions tells you whether marks will move.

How do I tell a strong IGCSE tutor from a confident one?+

Ask a question about marking rather than about teaching. Show them a past-paper question and ask how the marks are split and where candidates lose them. A strong tutor answers in the language of the mark scheme within seconds, naming method marks, precision marks and the command word. A confident generalist explains the topic instead, which is a different answer to a different question. Subject knowledge is necessary but it is widely available in Dubai. Knowing where this specific syllabus awards and withholds marks is the scarce part, and it is what separates a tutor who moves grades from one who delivers pleasant lessons.

Should a tutor mark my child's past papers with the official mark scheme?+

Yes, and you should see the result. Marking a paper properly takes roughly forty minutes and produces the single most useful artefact in the whole arrangement: your child's own work with each lost mark explained. Watch for two shortcuts. Self-marking by the student with the scheme open teaches almost nothing, because the student awards themselves marks for what they meant. Marking by somebody other than the tutor who teaches the lessons breaks the link between feedback and teaching, so the next session does not act on what the script showed.

How quickly does a grade actually move once IGCSE tutoring starts?+

Precision and method losses can start closing within three or four sessions, because they are habits rather than knowledge. A student who has been throwing away method marks by writing answers without working often recovers a visible number of marks on the next timed paper. Genuine content gaps take longer, roughly a session per significant topic plus practice. A realistic frame for a Dubai Year 10 family is one measurable step on a comparable paper within a six-week cycle. Nobody can promise a particular grade, and a provider who does is describing their marketing rather than the examination.

What does a diagnostic IGCSE paper tell you that a school report does not?+

A school report gives a grade and a comment. A marked diagnostic gives the distribution behind the grade. We sort losses into four categories: content never learnt, method not shown, precision such as units and labels, and timing. The split changes the plan completely. A student losing most marks to precision needs a few weeks of habit work, not a term of re-teaching. A student losing marks to timing needs practice under the clock. Two students with identical grade 4s frequently need entirely different work, which is invisible in a report and obvious on a marked script.

Is a KHDA inspection rating a useful guide to my child's IGCSE set?+

Partly. KHDA inspects Dubai private schools annually across six bands from Outstanding to Very Weak, and the reports are detailed about individual subjects and about the progress of different groups of pupils. That subject-level detail is worth reading. The overall band is not a statement about your child's set: an Outstanding school can have a weak maths group covered by a non-specialist, and a Good school can run an excellent separate-sciences department. Use the report for the subject judgements, then compare them with a marked script from your own child, which is the only evidence that is specifically about them.

How many IGCSE subjects can one tutor realistically cover?+

One well, two if they are closely related, three rarely. A tutor who teaches Chemistry 0620 and Biology 0610 can hold both mark schemes in working memory because the command words and the practical skills overlap. Maths and physics is another plausible pairing. Beyond that, the marking quality drops before the explaining quality does, which is hard for a parent to notice. If a family needs four subjects supported, the honest structure is two tutors and a shared view of the timetable, not one person claiming the whole curriculum.

What do IGCSE tutors charge per hour in Dubai in 2026-27?+

Published market rates run roughly AED 45 to 150 an hour for budget online tutoring, AED 150 to 300 for a qualified subject tutor online, AED 180 to 500 for an in-home visit once travel is priced in, and AED 200 to 450 or more for an IGCSE or IB specialist, with premium named tutors above that. Monthly online packages around AED 799 for eight sessions appear in the market too. Those figures come from published 2026 Dubai rate guides and providers' own pricing pages, not from us. Always ask whether marked written feedback is included, because that is what makes two similar hourly rates incomparable.

Does my child's tutor need a MoHRE permit to teach privately in Dubai?+

Yes. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is issued by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. It is granted free of charge for two years, and eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. MoHRE lists a two-working-day completion time through its smart app, website and e-services. Individuals tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no fine schedule is published, so treat any page quoting an amount with caution.

Where is the line between coaching IGCSE coursework and doing it for a student?+

The submission must be the student's own work, and the test is whose thinking is on the page. Reading the mark descriptors with a student and asking which band their paragraph currently meets is teaching. Explaining why a conclusion is not supported by their data is teaching. Supplying sentences, rewriting a section so the argument becomes the tutor's, or working on a document while the student watches is not. Our tutors give feedback on the student's own draft and never provide text for an assessed piece. Boards treat breaches as malpractice and the consequence falls on the student.

My child is in Year 11 with five months to go - is that enough time?+

Enough for a meaningful change, not enough for a rebuild. Five months is roughly twenty sessions, and the sensible plan narrows hard: one or two subjects, whole timed papers rather than topic tours, and relentless work on the losses that repeat. Precision and timing habits respond fastest, which is fortunate because they are usually the largest category. Start by sitting a full paper this week and having it marked properly, because the plan depends on the split of the losses. Spreading twenty sessions across four subjects produces four slightly better students and no changed grades.

What should a weekly progress update from an IGCSE tutor contain?+

Less than most parents expect and more than most receive. Four lines are enough: what was covered, what the student could do by the end that they could not at the start, what the next session will attack, and what should be practised before then. Every second week it should arrive with a marked script attached. What it should not contain is a score out of ten for effort, a motivational paragraph, or a progress percentage, because none of those is checkable against anything an examiner will do in the summer.

Do you teach both Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel IGCSE syllabuses?+

Yes, and the distinction is treated as a real one rather than a detail. Cambridge 0580 has a non-calculator paper; Pearson 4MA1 does not and is tiered Foundation and Higher rather than Core and Extended. Cambridge 0625 Physics includes an alternative-to-practical paper; Pearson 4PH1 assesses practical skills inside the written papers. Formula sheets differ. A tutor who teaches generic IGCSE physics will coach your child to answer a paper they are not sitting. We ask for the board and the code before matching, and if your school enters different departments with different boards we plan for both.

What if my child does not click with the tutor we start with?+

Say so after the trial or after the first paid session, and we propose someone else. The trial lesson exists precisely for this and takes no card details, so changing your mind costs nothing. A mismatch is usually about pace or manner rather than competence, and it is far cheaper to resolve in week one than in week nine. What we will not do is keep a student in a bad fit because the sessions are booked. Where availability in your slot is limited we say so honestly, and give a realistic date for an alternative.

How do lessons work for a Dubai family if nobody visits the house?+

Lessons run live over video, one to one, at a time set on Gulf Standard Time. The tutor and student share a workspace on screen, so a question can be written, worked and annotated in view of both. Your child photographs handwritten work and the tutor marks it on screen, which means the annotated version is saved and you can keep it. Sessions are planned around the school run rather than around a drive. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai; a tutor arriving at an address is a service we run only in India, and we would rather say that plainly than take a booking on a misunderstanding.

Start with one marked paper

If you take one thing from this page, make it the first step rather than the shortlist. Set a full past paper this week, timed, and have it marked against the published scheme. The split of the losses will tell you what kind of help your child actually needs, and it will make every conversation with a prospective tutor concrete. Tell us the syllabus code, the tier and the year group, and we will mark that paper, propose the specialist whose marking experience fits the diagnosis, and put a free thirty-minute trial lesson in the calendar with no card details taken.
