IGCSE Tuition in Abu Dhabi

IGCSE tuition in Abu Dhabi, judged on what it leaves on paper. Lessons run one-to-one over live video to households on the island, in the Khalifa City and Al Raha corridor, and across the mainland communities, timed around the Abu Dhabi school run rather than a tutor's drive. Every subject is taught to its own syllabus code and its own mark scheme, Cambridge or Pearson Edexcel. After four paid sessions you should be holding marked scripts, a running error log and a session note that names the component being fixed.

  • One-to-one lessons over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time
  • Cambridge 0580 and Pearson 4MA1 taught to their own mark schemes
  • Marked scripts, dated session notes and an error log you keep
  • A first lesson at no charge, with no card details taken beforehand

IB & IGCSE in Abu Dhabi

Tuition you can audit, not tuition you have to trust

Most IGCSE tuition is sold on reassurance and reviewed on feeling. A parent books an hour a week, the student says the sessions are useful, the next report arrives, and nobody can say which of those three things caused the other. That is a poor way to spend AED 200 an hour for eighteen months. The alternative is not more faith in the tutor. It is a small, dull set of documents that exist whether the term went well or badly, and that let you see the difference between a child who is learning and a child who is being kept company for sixty minutes.

This page is built around those documents. A marked script with the mark scheme beside it. An error log that separates a knowledge gap from a method slip from a misread command term. A session note that names the paper and the component rather than the subject. A draft history on any coursework piece that shows whose thinking produced it. None of this is exotic. It is what a working subject teacher already produces for a class of twenty-five, and it is reasonable to expect it for one student at a private rate.

Abu Dhabi sharpens the case. Private schools here answer to ADEK, the Department of Education and Knowledge, which u.ae describes as supervising the licensing and accreditation of private schools in the emirate. Enrolment sits in three rough bands: the island schools around Al Bateen, Al Khalidiyah and Al Mushrif; the Khalifa City, Al Raha and Yas Island corridor; and the newer mainland communities out towards Al Shamkha and Mussafah. A family in Al Reef and a family in Al Rawdah face the same syllabus and completely different evenings.

Delivery here is online and one-to-one. IB Gram does not send a tutor to an Abu Dhabi address; in-home visiting is a service we run only in India. That is said plainly because it changes what you are comparing. A visiting tutor is limited to whoever can reach Al Reef before seven in the evening. A live video session is limited only by who is free at that hour, which is how a household ends up with an IGCSE Chemistry 0620 specialist instead of a generalist with a car and a free Thursday.

What follows is the market in numbers, the evidence to ask for, the Cambridge and Pearson calendar read backwards from the entry deadline rather than forwards from the exam, and the point at which the honest answer is to stop paying. Figures in AED are market rates published by other providers, with the band attributed to whoever published it. They are context for your decision rather than a price list of ours; our own commercial answer is a first lesson at no charge followed by a consultation.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

An IGCSE plan in Abu Dhabi has to know which board your child sits, which tier the school has entered them for, and what comes after Year 11. Those three decisions change the papers, the grade ceiling and the university paperwork more than any choice of tutor does.

CIEAges 14-16 Years 10-11

Cambridge IGCSE

Cambridge International runs IGCSE in a June series and a November series, with Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests in March, May and October. Subjects carry four-digit codes that decide everything about the plan: Mathematics 0580, Physics 0625, Chemistry 0620, Biology 0610, First Language English 0500, English as a Second Language 0510. Two children in the same Abu Dhabi year group can sit different codes in the same subject.

Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, adding that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong one. Ask your child's exams officer which zone the school sits in before you build a revision calendar around any published date.

4xx1Ages 14-16 Years 10-11

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE exams are available in May/June and November each year. Codes begin 4: Mathematics A is 4MA1, Physics 4PH1, Chemistry 4CH1, Biology 4BI1, English Language A 4EA1. The structure differs from Cambridge in ways that matter for revision, including tiering by Foundation and Higher rather than Core and Extended, and a different balance of question styles across the papers.

Several Abu Dhabi schools enter students for both boards across a nine-subject timetable, so a household can be running 0580 Mathematics and 4PH1 Physics at once. Pearson publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series, which is why a plan should be built against the live official timetable rather than against a date someone remembered from last year.

TIERAges 14-16 Years 10-11

Core, Extended, Foundation and Higher tiers

Tiering is the single most consequential decision in an IGCSE timetable, and it is usually made by the school rather than the family. Cambridge Core and Extended papers differ in content and in grade ceiling. Pearson Foundation and Higher do the same under different names. A child entered for the wrong tier is either being capped or being asked to sit material the lessons never covered.

Tier decisions in Abu Dhabi schools are commonly confirmed around the final entry deadline, and for a June sitting that deadline falls in the spring term, well before the papers are sat. That means the conversation has to happen in the autumn and winter terms, with marked evidence in hand, rather than in the spring when the entry has already been lodged and the tier is fixed.

NEXTAges 16-19 Years 12-13

After IGCSE: A Level, IB Diploma and equivalency

IGCSE grades act as the entry gate to A Level and to the IB Diploma Programme, and as part of the Ministry of Education equivalency file for students who later apply to UAE universities. Subject choices made in Year 9 therefore reach into Year 13. The jump in reading load and independent work between Year 11 and Year 12 catches out students who were carried by memory at IGCSE.

On the British track, Gulf Today reported the UAE equivalency requirement as five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at a grade of no less than E or grade 3, with Arabic and Islamic education not included among those five, plus one accredited subject at Advanced Level at E or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level. Verify the current rule on the Ministry's own channel before relying on it.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the IGCSE subjects Abu Dhabi households ask for most often, with the syllabus codes that decide which papers are sat. A plan that says Physics is not a plan. A plan that says 0625 Extended, Papers 2 and 4, with Paper 6 as the alternative to practical, is one you can check.

Mathematics (Cambridge 0580 / Pearson 4MA1)

Core and Extended, Foundation and Higher

Marks leak in three predictable places: multi-step algebra where method marks are lost to arithmetic, the wordy later questions where the problem is never translated into mathematics, and bearings or transformation work that is rehearsed once and then forgotten. Extended candidates also need fluency in topics Core never touches.

Physics (Cambridge 0625 / Pearson 4PH1)

Core and Extended, Foundation and Higher

Electricity and waves produce the heaviest losses, usually because formulae are recalled but units and rearrangement are not. The alternative to practical paper rewards a specific skill set, including reading a scale correctly, identifying a control variable and describing a method precisely enough for somebody else to repeat it.

Chemistry (Cambridge 0620 / Pearson 4CH1)

Core and Extended, Foundation and Higher

Moles calculations split into a mass-to-moles step and a ratio step, and students who lose marks almost always lose them at the second. Organic chemistry rewards pattern recognition rather than memory, and the extended-response questions on electrolysis and rates need a structure the mark scheme can follow.

Biology (Cambridge 0610 / Pearson 4BI1)

Core and Extended, Foundation and Higher

The content volume is the trap. Students revise the topics they enjoy and arrive at the paper strong on transport in plants and silent on homeostasis. Command-term discipline decides the longer answers: describe, explain and suggest ask for different things and are marked differently.

Combined and Co-ordinated Sciences (Cambridge 0653 / 0654)

Core and Extended, double or single award

A child on Combined Science is not studying a reduced version of three separate sciences; the content map is different. Revising from separate-science notes wastes hours on material that will never be examined, and leaves gaps in the parts the award does assess.

First Language English (Cambridge 0500)

Extended only

Reading questions are marked for selection and inference rather than for retelling, and the directed writing task is assessed on audience and register as much as on accuracy. Students who write well and read quickly tend to lose marks for answering the question they expected rather than the one on the paper.

English as a Second Language (Cambridge 0510 / 0511)

Core and Extended

The entry choice between First Language and Second Language English sets a ceiling that affects later applications, so it deserves a conversation with the school rather than a shrug. Within the paper, the summary task and the note-making task carry marks that respond quickly to technique work.

Economics and Business Studies (Cambridge 0455 / 0450)

Core and Extended

Both reward a diagram or a definition before the explanation, and both punish a student who writes a general essay. Evaluation marks on the longer questions need a judgement with a reason attached, which is a teachable habit rather than a talent.

Geography and History (Cambridge 0460 / 0470)

Core and Extended

Case-study recall is the differentiator in Geography; source handling is the differentiator in History. In both, the mark scheme rewards specific named detail, and a student who has learned the concept but no example will stall at the middle of the mark range.

Computer Science and ICT (Cambridge 0478 / 0417)

Core and Extended

Theory papers need precise vocabulary, and the practical components need methodical evidence rather than clever shortcuts. Pseudocode and trace tables are the two skills that most reliably move a grade, because both are examined and both are rarely practised at home.

Arabic as a First or Foreign Language (Cambridge 0508 / 0544)

First Language and Foreign Language routes

Arabic runs alongside an international curriculum for most students in the emirate under federal requirements, and the first-language and foreign-language routes assess very different things. Treating one as an easier version of the other is the most common planning error families make here.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways an Abu Dhabi household uses IGCSE tuition. All three are delivered one-to-one over live video, and all three produce the same documents, because the whole point of the plan is that you can read it later.

Weekly one-to-one, one subject at a time

A fixed slot on the same evening each week for one subject and one syllabus code. The hour opens with the error log from last week, works a past-paper question type under time, and closes with one named thing to practise. This is the format that produces a usable record, because each session is comparable to the one before it.

  • Same slot weekly, held in Gulf Standard Time
  • One syllabus code per slot rather than a general subject
  • Error log updated inside the session, not afterwards
  • A written note naming the paper and component worked on

Paper clinics in the weeks before a series

Short, intense blocks aimed at one paper rather than one subject, built around sitting the paper under exam timing and then marking it against the published scheme. Useful when a student knows the content and still loses marks, and useful when a mock result has arrived and nobody can explain it.

  • Full paper sat under time, then marked against the scheme
  • Timing audited question by question, not just overall
  • Command terms rehearsed on the question types that recur
  • A retake or resit position drafted before results arrive

Coursework and controlled-component review

Process coaching on the pieces that are assessed inside school. The tutor reads what the student has written, explains against the published criteria where the piece currently sits, and asks the questions that make the student do the next revision. The words that go to the examiner are the student's own in every case.

  • Criteria explained in the board's own language
  • Comments on the student's draft, visible to the school
  • Draft history kept so authorship can be demonstrated
  • No part of a submitted piece is authored by the tutor

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Abu Dhabi

01

What IGCSE tuition in Abu Dhabi buys that the school day cannot

IGCSE tuition in Abu Dhabi buys three things a classroom cannot give one child: time on that child's specific errors, a second reading of a marked script, and a plan that names a paper rather than a subject. Market rates run roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour for a qualified subject tutor working online, and AED 200 to 450 and above for a subject specialist, on the figures other providers publish. None of that buys more content. The content is already being delivered six hours a day by a school ADEK licenses and inspects.

The gap a private hour fills is diagnostic. A Year 11 teacher marking thirty IGCSE Chemistry 0620 Paper 4 scripts can tell you that your child lost marks on moles and on the six-mark electrolysis question. A private hour can tell you that the moles marks went because the mass-to-moles step was right and the ratio step was not, and that the electrolysis answer had the chemistry in it but no structure the mark scheme could reward. The first of those is a grade. The second is something to practise on Tuesday.

That is why the rest of this page is about evidence rather than enthusiasm. Every claim a tutor makes about progress can be checked against a document, and a provider who will not produce the document is telling you something useful about the provider. The sections below set out what should exist after four paid sessions, how to decide which subject gets the money when nine are running at once, what the Abu Dhabi market actually charges and who published those figures, and the dates that decide whether a plan has any room left in it at all.

02

The paper trail a term of IGCSE tuition should leave behind

Five documents, and none of them is difficult to produce. A marked script, an error log, a dated session note, a draft history on anything assessed inside school, and a written plan carrying the syllabus code. If all five exist at the end of a half-term, you can answer the only question that matters: has this child's performance on the actual papers moved, and in which direction.

The marked script is the anchor. It has to be a past paper sat under time, marked against the published scheme rather than against a tutor's sense of it, with the lost marks annotated by cause. The error log is the memory of the tuition. Without it, each session fixes something and the fix evaporates, which is how a family can pay for twenty hours and find the same mistake in the February mock that was in the October one.

The session note is the cheapest of the five and the one most often missing. Three lines is enough, provided those lines name the paper, the component and the specific skill worked on. The plan is what lets you say no to drift: when a tutor proposes a different topic every week, the plan is the document that asks why. A provider who produces none of these is not necessarily teaching badly, but you have no way of knowing either way, and at a private rate that is the thing you are actually buying.

Nine subjects, two funded hours: triage by evidence

Almost no Abu Dhabi family funds tuition in nine subjects, and the ones who try usually buy a thin hour in each and move nothing. The useful question is which single subject, in which single paper, will convert the next two hundred dirhams into the most marks. The evidence answers that better than the student's opinion does, and better than the subject the parent found hardest at school.

Start by sorting the lost marks into four causes. Content never learned. Method known but executed carelessly. Structure missing on extended-response questions. Time run out. Only the first and the third reliably respond to paid teaching hours. The second responds to a checking protocol that costs nothing, and the fourth responds to sitting papers split against a clock at the kitchen table, also free.

The second filter is the shape of the timetable. A child with a grade 4 in one subject and grade 7s elsewhere has a certificate problem in one place, and funding that subject alone is the efficient move. A child who is a grade 5 across the board has a study-habit problem that one subject's tuition will not touch. The table below is the version of this conversation we have most often with households in Khalifa City and on Al Reem Island, where two children and one budget is the normal case. One more filter is worth applying before any money is spent: how many papers are left to sit in that subject. Funding a subject whose final paper is three weeks away buys very little, while the same hour in a subject with a full year of assessment ahead compounds. Sort the nine subjects by papers remaining, then by cause of lost marks, and the funding order usually becomes obvious without anybody arguing about which subject is hardest.

04

The data drop: what an Abu Dhabi school report measures, and what it leaves out

Three times a year a school sends home a set of numbers, and families reasonably treat them as the scoreboard for whatever tuition they are paying for. They are not quite that. A reported grade is usually a blend of class assessments, a mock, teacher judgement and a target derived from a baseline test the parent never saw. Two of those four inputs can move without the student's examination performance changing at all.

Ask the school two questions. First, what is this grade actually based on: a full paper under time, a topic test, or a professional judgement. Second, which paper and which components does it cover, because a Chemistry grade built from Paper 2 alone tells you very little about how the Paper 4 extended responses are going. Most schools answer both questions readily, and the answers reshape the tuition plan more than any report ever does.

The inspection rating sits in the same category. ADEK licenses and inspects private schools in the emirate and publishes its ratings, and that rating is genuine information about the institution. It is not information about your child's Paper 4 technique. A strongly rated school can have a weak year in one subject because a teacher left in October, and a lower-rated school can have a maths department that gets results. Treat the rating as context for choosing a school and the marked scripts as evidence for choosing tuition. There is one more thing a report cannot show you, which is the gap between a grade and a boundary. Published grade boundaries move every series, so a student three marks below a boundary and a student fifteen marks below it can be reported with the same grade for months. Only the raw component marks reveal which of those two students you are dealing with, and that distinction decides whether a term of tuition is a rescue or a refinement.

05

What IGCSE tuition costs around Abu Dhabi, with the sources named

Most providers in this market publish no price at all, and two of the pages ranking for these searches quote in dollars, which is not the currency the household transacts in. The table below collects the AED figures that are actually published, attributed to whoever published them. Read it as the market, not as our rate card: a tier tells you what an hour in that band usually contains, which is more useful than a single number.

Monthly packages are where comparisons quietly break. Figures seen in this market include AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month for four two-hour visiting sessions. Those two things are not the same purchase: one is eight contacts with eight error-log updates, the other is four longer contacts with a travel component inside the price. Bestimate's monthly estimates for a weekly one-hour session run AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle and AED 1,000 to 2,000 and above for specialist exam-year support.

Two practical notes. A visiting rate always contains a drive that nobody invoices separately, which is why the in-home band sits above the online band for the same teacher. And the cheapest hour is frequently the most expensive, because an hour that produces no marked script and no error log has to be bought again. Ask any provider what their hour includes in writing before comparing it with another provider's hour.

Entry deadlines sit months ahead of the papers

Families plan backwards from the exam. Boards plan backwards from the entry. The gap between those two habits is where most of the avoidable damage in an IGCSE year happens, because the decisions that are still reversible, such as which tier a student is entered for, close long before the revision starts to feel urgent.

The June series is the clearest worked example for an Abu Dhabi family, because it is the series most candidates here sit. Read the sequence in order: the entry closes in the spring term and the tier is fixed at that point on whatever marked evidence existed then, forecast grades go to the board ahead of the papers, the papers run through June on the centre's zone version of the timetable, and results follow in August. Pearson's November route makes the same point with a published date, its November 2026 papers running to 19 November 2026 while entries for them closed months earlier in the year. The exact Cambridge deadline is not a national announcement; it is on the statement of entry the centre issues, which is why the exams officer is the person to ask for it.

Pearson works to its own rhythm. International GCSE exams are available in May/June and November, with the November 2026 final timetable running from late October to 19 November 2026. June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August and students on 20 August, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Pearson also publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series, so every plan should be built against the live official timetable rather than a remembered date. IB Diploma session dates are deliberately absent from this page: the IB's own site cannot be checked automatically, and an unverified date on a planning page is worse than no date at all. The habit worth building is simple. Take the entry deadline for your child's series, mark it on a wall calendar, and count the weeks between today and that date rather than between today and the first paper. Everything reversible lives inside that shorter window, and everything after it is execution.

Controlled components, coursework and where a paid tutor stops

Every board requires that assessed work submitted under a student's name is the student's own. That rule is not a formality, and the consequences of breaking it land on the student rather than on the tutor. So the boundary has to be stated before the money changes hands, in words specific enough to be enforced.

Here is where the line sits in practice. A tutor may explain the published criteria in the board's own language, teach the skills the piece demands, read a draft the student has written and say which criterion it currently fails, ask questions that make the student rethink a section, and show a worked example on a different topic entirely. A tutor may not supply sentences for the submission, rewrite a paragraph into its final form, choose the topic on the student's behalf, or hand over material the student then presents as their own thinking.

The practical safeguard is the draft history. If every version is kept, with the tutor's comments visible as comments rather than as edits, then the development of the work is documented and the student can show their own progression if anybody asks. This is also where essay-selling operations in this market expose their customers: a finished piece bought for a fee is a malpractice trigger, it is the fastest way to lose a qualification, and it is the one service this page will not sell at any price. Ask any prospective tutor to describe the boundary in their own words before the first session. The answer is diagnostic. A tutor who describes it precisely, and who volunteers how they keep drafts so authorship stays visible, has worked inside a school's academic-honesty process. A tutor who treats the question as paperwork has not, and that is worth knowing while the engagement is still hypothetical rather than in March with a deadline approaching.

08

Movement that is real, and movement that is noise

Grade movement is lumpy, and the first month is the most misleading month of the whole engagement. A student who scored poorly because they ran out of time can gain several marks in one session purely from pacing, and that gain is real but it does not repeat. A student who has genuinely closed a content gap will often show nothing for three weeks and then move on two papers at once.

So measure component marks before you measure grades. A Physics score that goes from eleven to seventeen on the Paper 6 practical questions is evidence, whether or not the overall grade has changed yet, because the mark scheme attributes those marks to identifiable skills. A reported grade that moves from 5 to 6 between two different assessments of different components is not evidence of anything in particular.

Three honest caveats. Boundaries move every series, so the same raw mark can be a different grade in June and in November. A mock paper marked generously flatters everybody, and a mock marked harshly to motivate a cohort does the opposite. And no tutor, however experienced with 0580 past papers, can promise a particular outcome; what a tutor can do is show you the component marks each month and let you draw the line yourself. Any provider who offers certainty about a final grade is selling something other than teaching. The practical consequence is a reporting rhythm rather than a weekly verdict. Record component marks at each timed paper, compare them across a half-term rather than across a fortnight, and ignore the single good session entirely. Noise lives in the short window and signal lives in the longer one, which is why the review date on the plan sits at the end of a half-term rather than at the end of a week.

09

When the evidence says change the plan

Tuition should be cancellable on the evidence, which means deciding in advance what evidence would make you stop. Our own answer is the fourth session and then the end of the half-term. If the error log has not shrunk, if no paper has been sat under time, and if the component marks have not moved in either direction, something in the plan is wrong and more of the same hour will not fix it.

Four things are usually wrong. The subject is wrong, because the real problem is in a different one. The tier is wrong, and the student is sitting material the lessons never covered. The format is wrong, because a weekly hour cannot repair eighteen months of gaps and the household needs a block of paper clinics instead. Or the match is wrong, and a competent tutor and a particular fifteen-year-old simply do not work together, which is common and nobody's failure.

A fifth possibility deserves naming. Sometimes the honest conclusion is that paid tuition is not the thing this child needs right now, and that sleep, a workable revision routine or a conversation with the school's head of department would do more. A provider who cannot reach that conclusion out loud has an incentive problem. We would rather say it at session four than take the money for another term and have you work it out in May. Write the stopping rule down before the first session, in one sentence, and give a copy to the tutor. Something like: if no paper has been sat under time and no component mark has moved by session four, the engagement pauses while we work out why. A tutor who agrees to that in advance has nothing to hide, and a household with that sentence in writing never has to have an awkward conversation about whether to carry on.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi is three different school-run problems wearing one city's name. Where a household sits decides what time a session can realistically start, which schools the children attend, and how much a visiting tutor would have to charge to make the trip worth taking.

Al Bateen and Al Khalidiyah

Dense island addresses within a short drive of several British-curriculum schools, which keeps local tutor supply high for Mathematics and English and thin for the rarer IGCSE options. Sessions here can start early because the school run is short.

Al Mushrif and Al Rawdah

Villa communities feeding the long-established island schools. Families often run two or three children at different stages at once, which makes a fixed weekly slot per child more valuable than a flexible one shared between them.

Khalifa City

A large low-rise spread with internal distances that surprise newcomers. A tutor crossing from the island adds a real drive in each direction, which is why households here tend to compare an online hour against a visiting hour on cost per teaching minute.

Al Raha Beach and Al Raha Gardens

Corridor addresses between the island and Khalifa City, close to several large academies. Evening slots compete with sport and extracurricular commitments, so Year 11 households often move the weekly session to a Friday or Saturday morning.

Saadiyat Island

A short bridge from the island but a distinct catchment, with families whose children often transfer in mid-course from other systems. Mid-year joiners usually need a syllabus-gap audit before anybody books a weekly hour.

Al Reem Island

High-rise living with lift and parking delays that quietly eat into a visiting tutor's hour. Study space is often a shared dining table, so a session plan here has to assume headphones and a defined sixty minutes rather than a quiet study.

Yas Island

A newer residential catchment where several families are on their first IGCSE cycle. Questions here lean towards how the two boards differ and what the tier decision actually means, rather than towards last-minute exam rescue.

Mohammed Bin Zayed City and Mussafah

Mainland communities with a wide spread of school fees and curricula, and the longest drives to the island schools. Online delivery removes the single largest cost a household here would otherwise pay a visiting tutor for.

Al Shamkha and Al Reef

Outer communities where a weekday visiting session often cannot start before seven in the evening once traffic is counted. A live video slot at half past four is a different lesson entirely, because the student is not yet tired.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi island: Al Bateen, Al Khalidiyah, Al Mushrif and Al Rawdah

The longest-established British and international schools in the emirate sit within a few kilometres of each other here, which means households often compare IGCSE results across three schools their neighbours attend. Students we support in this cluster most often ask for Mathematics, Chemistry and First Language English.

  • The British School Al Khubairat
  • Brighton College Abu Dhabi
  • Al Bateen Academy
  • The British International School Abu Dhabi
  • Abu Dhabi International School

Saadiyat, Al Reem and the Khalifa City to Al Raha corridor

A newer band of academies serving the island fringe and the inland communities. Transfers in and out are more common here, so IGCSE gap audits and tier conversations come up more often than straight exam rescue. ADEK publishes inspection ratings for all of them.

  • Cranleigh Abu Dhabi
  • Repton Abu Dhabi
  • Al Yasmina Academy
  • Raha International School
  • GEMS American Academy Abu Dhabi

The mainland: Mussafah, Mohammed Bin Zayed City, Al Shamkha and Al Reef

A wider fee range and a wider spread of curricula, with several large schools entering big IGCSE cohorts. Distance from the island schools is what pushes households here towards online delivery rather than a visiting tutor's travel premium.

  • GEMS Cambridge International School Abu Dhabi
  • Amity International School Abu Dhabi
  • Our Own English High School Abu Dhabi
  • Emirates National Schools

Schools are named here as context about the Abu Dhabi school map; no affiliation, partnership or endorsement is implied, and none exists.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the syllabus codes, not just the subjects

Tell us which board and which code each subject sits under, and which tier the school has entered. Cambridge 0580 Extended and Pearson 4MA1 Higher are different purchases. If you do not know, the exams officer at the school does, and the question takes one email.

  2. 02

Send the last two marked scripts

Photographs are fine. Two marked papers tell a subject specialist more in ten minutes than a half-hour conversation about how the term has gone. What we are reading for is the cause of each lost mark, which decides whether the first hour should be content, structure or timing.

  3. 03

Use the first lesson as a diagnostic

The first lesson is at no charge and no card details are taken before it. It is not a sales demonstration. The tutor works a past-paper question type under time, finds where the method breaks, and writes the first entry in the error log before the hour ends.

  4. 04

Agree a written plan with a review date

One page: the syllabus code, the components in scope, what will be sat under time and when, and the date you will both look at the evidence. The plan is what makes drift visible, and it is the document to ask for if a provider offers you nothing else.

  5. 05

Review at four sessions and decide

Put the marked scripts, the error log and the session notes on the table and ask whether the component marks have moved. Continue, change subject, change format, or stop. All four are legitimate outcomes, and deciding in advance to have the conversation is what stops a term drifting.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Every plan carries a syllabus code

A plan that says Physics could mean 0625 Extended, 0625 Core or 4PH1 Higher, and the revision for each is different. Writing the code down at the start prevents a term of teaching material the student will never be examined on, which is the most expensive error available.

Marked scripts rather than progress adjectives

Progress is reported as component marks on papers sat under time, annotated by cause. That is harder to produce than a cheerful message after each lesson, and it is the only version you can check, disagree with, or take to your child's head of department.

Market rates published, our own position stated plainly

The AED bands on this page are other providers' published figures with the source named, so you can see where any quote sits in the market. Our own commercial answer is a first lesson at no charge followed by a consultation, rather than a tier list invented for a web page.

A stated line on assessed work

Teaching, criteria explanation and comments on a student's own draft, with the draft history kept. No part of a submitted piece is written for the student. The boundary is in writing because it protects the qualification, and because operations in this market sell the other thing.

Coverage limits disclosed before you pay

Some IGCSE subject and tier combinations have thin specialist availability in the UAE time zone, and we say so before taking a booking rather than after. If the match will take a fortnight, or if the session has to sit at a different hour, you hear that first.

One delivery format, described honestly

Lessons are one-to-one over live video. IB Gram runs no visiting service in the UAE and claims none, which means the comparison on this page between online and visiting tuition is about cost and logistics rather than about selling you the more expensive option.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Abu Dhabi: your questions answered

What should I be holding after four paid IGCSE sessions in Abu Dhabi?+

Five things. At least one past paper sat under time and marked against the published scheme. An error log that sorts the lost marks by cause rather than by topic. A dated note for each session naming the paper and component worked on. A one-page plan carrying the syllabus code and a review date. And, if coursework is in scope, a draft history showing the student's own versions with the tutor's comments visible. If any of those is missing at session four, ask for it before booking the next block. A provider who cannot produce them is not necessarily teaching badly, but you have no way to tell.

Which IGCSE subject should I fund first if I can only afford one hour a week?+

Sort the lost marks across all nine subjects into four causes: content never learned, method known but carelessly executed, missing structure on extended-response questions, and time running out. Paid hours move the first and third reliably. The second needs a checking protocol, which costs nothing, and the fourth needs papers sat in halves against a clock at home. Then look at the shape of the timetable. One grade 4 among grade 7s means funding that subject alone; a flat set of grade 5s is a study-method problem that a single subject's tuition will not touch.

Does my child's school report tell me whether the tuition is working?+

Only partly. A reported grade usually blends class assessments, a mock, teacher judgement and a target from a baseline test you never saw, and two of those inputs can move without examination performance changing. Ask the school what the grade is actually based on, and which components it covers. A Chemistry grade built from Paper 2 alone says very little about Paper 4 extended responses. Component marks from papers sat under time are the measure that answers your question, which is why the tuition should be producing them independently of the school's reporting cycle.

What does an hour of IGCSE tuition cost in Abu Dhabi right now?+

On published figures, roughly AED 45 to 150 an hour for a budget or university-student online tutor, AED 150 to 300 for a qualified subject tutor online, AED 180 to 500 for a visiting tutor with travel inside the rate, and AED 200 to 450 and above for a subject specialist. BartyED publishes AED 650 at the premium end and TutorChase publishes AED 270. Monthly packages seen in this market include AED 799 for eight online sessions. Those are other providers' numbers, cited so you can place any quote you receive, not a price list of ours.

Can a tutor come to our villa in Khalifa City for the lessons?+

Not from us. IB Gram does not provide in-home visits anywhere in the UAE; visiting tuition is a service we run only in India. Lessons for Abu Dhabi households are one-to-one over live video. The visiting market here is real and this page quotes its rates honestly, at roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour with travel inside the figure. What you give up by choosing online is a person in the room; what you gain is a tutor chosen for the syllabus code rather than for the drive from the island to Khalifa City.

Why does the Cambridge entry deadline matter more than the exam date?+

Because the reversible decisions close at the entry, not at the exam. For a June sitting, final entries close in the spring term while the papers run in June, so the tier a student is entered for, Core or Extended, is fixed months earlier on whatever marked evidence existed at the time. Forecast grades go in ahead of the papers and results follow in August. Pearson's November 2026 series shows the same gap with a published date: papers running to 19 November 2026, entries for them closed months before. Cambridge also allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and warns that the correct zone timetable must be used, so confirm the zone with the exams officer early.

My child is in Year 10 and already behind. Is it too early to pay for tuition?+

Year 10 is the cheapest place to spend the money, because a gap closed now is not sitting underneath Year 11 content later. It is also the year in which the tier decision is still genuinely open, and that decision affects the grade ceiling more than any number of hours later will. Start with one subject rather than four, run it for a half-term, and keep the evidence. If the component marks move, extend. If they do not, you have learned something useful about the cause while there is still a full year of runway left.

Do we need tuition in all nine of my child's IGCSE subjects?+

Almost never, and families who try usually buy a thin hour in each subject and move nothing. Nine subjects at a weekly hour is a timetable no fifteen-year-old can absorb on top of school, homework and sleep. One or two subjects taught properly, with papers sat under time and an error log that survives between sessions, produces more marks than nine shallow contacts. If more than two subjects are genuinely failing, the problem is usually a revision routine rather than nine separate content gaps, and that is cheaper to fix.

What happens if no specialist is free for my child's subject and tier?+

You are told before a booking is taken, not after. Some combinations have thin availability in the UAE time zone, particularly less common options and the higher tiers of minority subjects. In that case we say how long a match is likely to take, whether a session would need to sit at a different hour, and whether a nearby alternative would serve, such as supporting the examined components with a specialist in the adjacent discipline. The thing we will not do is take a booking and then find somebody approximately suitable afterwards.

Should we move my child from Extended to Core to protect the grade?+

It is a real option and it carries a real cost, because tiers differ in grade ceiling as well as in content. The decision needs marked evidence rather than a feeling, and it needs to happen before the entry deadline, which for a June sitting falls in the spring term and is confirmed by the centre rather than announced as one national date. Ask the school which tier the current scripts support, and ask what the ceiling means for the subjects your child wants at post-16. A tutor can tell you which Extended content is missing and how many hours it would take; the entry itself is the school's decision with you.

How do I check that the person teaching my child is permitted to tutor in the UAE?+

Private tutoring here runs on a permit. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted at no charge for two years, and is open to teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. MoHRE's own service page is Issuance of a New Work Permit, Private Tutor Licensing, applied for through its app, website and e-services, with a two-working-day completion time. Ask to see the permit. Anyone tutoring without one is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws.

How far can a tutor go on an IGCSE coursework or controlled-assessment draft?+

A tutor may explain the published criteria in the board's own language, teach the skills the piece needs, read what the student has written and say which criterion it currently fails, ask questions that force a rethink, and demonstrate on an unrelated topic. A tutor may not supply sentences for the submission, rewrite a paragraph into its final form, pick the topic on the student's behalf or hand over material presented later as the student's own thinking. Keep every draft, with comments visible as comments. That history is what demonstrates authorship if the school ever asks.

Is an hour a week enough for IGCSE Mathematics in Year 11?+

It is enough to fix a diagnosed problem and not enough to teach the course a second time. One hour a week buys roughly thirty contacts across a year, which will close two or three substantial content gaps and build one examination habit, provided the student practises between sessions. If the gap is two years wide, an hour a week will not close it and a block of concentrated paper clinics before the series is a better use of the same money. The honest test is whether component marks move by the fourth session.

What does the error log actually look like after a month?+

A page, usually a shared document, with one row per mistake. Each row names the paper and question, the cause sorted into content, method, structure or timing, the correction, and the date it was next tested. After four sessions a useful log has perhaps fifteen rows, with several already struck out because the student got them right under time later. A log that only grows is diagnosis without teaching. A log that never gets written is why the February mock contains the same errors as the October one.

Do Abu Dhabi families need a different plan from Dubai families?+

The syllabus is identical; the regulator and the logistics are not. Private schools in Abu Dhabi answer to ADEK, which supervises licensing and accreditation of private schools in the emirate and publishes its own inspection ratings, while Dubai schools answer to KHDA. For a household in Al Shamkha or Al Reef the practical difference is the evening: distances to the island schools are long enough that a visiting tutor cannot realistically start before seven, which is why a live video slot at half past four is a different lesson rather than the same lesson delivered differently.

Can one tutor cover both Cambridge and Pearson papers in the same subject?+

A strong subject specialist usually can, but ask them to prove it on the detail rather than the principle. Cambridge Mathematics 0580 and Pearson 4MA1 differ in tiering language, in question style and in how marks are allocated across the papers. The test question is simple: ask which paper carries which weighting in each specification, and what the tiering is called. A tutor who answers both precisely has taught both. A tutor who talks about IGCSE in general has probably taught one and assumed the other is similar enough.

Start with two marked scripts and a syllabus code

The quickest way to find out whether IGCSE tuition in Abu Dhabi will help your child is to send the last two marked papers and the syllabus code for the subject that worries you most. A subject specialist reads them, says where the marks are going and how many hours that is likely to take, and runs a first lesson at no charge with no card details taken beforehand. After four sessions you look at the error log and the component marks together and decide whether to continue. If the evidence says the plan is wrong, we will say so rather than sell you another term.
