Best IGCSE Tutor in Abu Dhabi

Parents searching for the best IGCSE tutor in Abu Dhabi are usually asking two questions at once: who actually knows the syllabus, and what should this cost. This page answers the second one with published AED figures and the source beside each band, then shows what changes the number in this emirate. Lessons run one-to-one over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time, so a Khalifa City family and an Al Reem Island family get the same specialist rather than whoever drives nearby.

IB & IGCSE in Abu Dhabi

The real question behind "best IGCSE tutor in Abu Dhabi" is a price question

Almost every Abu Dhabi parent who types this search has already had one conversation about money. A neighbour pays AED 180 an hour. A colleague at the same school pays AED 420 for what sounds like the same lesson. Nothing on the first page of Google explains the gap, because three of the six pages ranking for this query publish no price at all and the two that do quote in US dollars, a currency no family here transacts in. So the search for the best IGCSE tutor in Abu Dhabi turns into guesswork, and guesswork in an exam year is expensive in a way that has nothing to do with hourly rates.

The honest answer is that there is no single market rate. There is a band, and your position inside that band is set by four things: how niche the subject is, whether the tutor is teaching Core or Extended, how close the June or November series is, and whether anybody has to drive. The last of those is the one nobody prices out loud. A tutor who travels to Al Reef for a 5pm session is selling you ninety minutes of their evening for a sixty-minute lesson, and that cost sits inside the rate whether or not it is itemised on the invoice.

This page prices all four factors using figures that were published by UAE providers and rate aggregators, with the source named in the table. None of them is our price list. IB Gram matches families to tutors and runs the first lesson free, so what you pay is agreed after you have seen the tutor teach your child rather than before. That sequence matters more than any number here: a cheap tutor who does not know that 0620 Paper 6 is the alternative-to-practical paper will cost you a grade, and a grade is not recoverable with money in August.

What follows is arranged for a parent making a decision this week. First the market bands, then the six things that move your quote, then the Core-versus-Extended decision that changes your total bill more than any hourly rate does. After that, the subjects where marks actually leak, a comparison of online against in-home and group tuition with the travel reality of this city built in, a two-year cost model, and the checks you can run on a tutor's right to work before you pay anybody anything. Abu Dhabi's private schools are licensed and inspected by ADEK, the Department of Education and Knowledge, and the inspection report on your child's school is public reading that will shape how much help they actually need. Read the rate table first, then the tier section, and the rest of the page will cost you less to act on.

At a glance

  • Published bands run from roughly AED 45 an hour for university-student tutors to AED 650 for named premium tutors; IGCSE specialists cluster at AED 150-450
  • Extended tier costs more to tutor than Core because the content is wider and the paper set is harder, not because tutors charge a surcharge for it
  • In-home rates in the UAE carry the travel inside them: published in-home bands sit roughly AED 30-150 above comparable online rates
  • Entry deadlines for a series close months before the exam, so a late start costs availability rather than money
  • The MoHRE private tuition work permit is free and valid for two years, which means a tutor who cannot show one has no cost excuse
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Abu Dhabi families arrive at IGCSE from three directions: a British-curriculum primary, an Aldar or GEMS school running Cambridge Lower Secondary, or an IB MYP school where Year 11 becomes the switch point. The stage your child is at changes what tutoring is for, and what it should cost.

LSAges 11-14 · Years 7-9

Cambridge Lower Secondary and Checkpoint

The three years before IGCSE, ending in Checkpoint tests that Cambridge runs in March, May and October. Checkpoint is not a public qualification and no university will ever see it, but it is the cleanest early read you will get on whether your child is heading for Core or Extended in maths and science. Tutoring at this stage is cheap because the content is narrow, and it is the only point where you can fix an algebra gap without an exam deadline pressing on it.

In Abu Dhabi this is where the Khalifa City and Al Raha corridor schools stream earliest, often setting maths groups in Year 8. A parent who waits for the Year 10 report to act is usually paying two years later for a gap that was visible in a Year 8 Checkpoint breakdown. Rates at this level sit at the lower end of every published band.

IGAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge IGCSE, Years 10 and 11

Two years, typically eight to ten subjects, examined in June or November. Cambridge runs two grading systems in parallel: the A*-G syllabuses such as 0580 Maths and 0620 Chemistry, and the 9-1 versions such as 0980 and 0971. The content is the same; the grade scale and the certificate are not. Your child's statement of entry carries the four-digit code, and that code is the single most useful thing you can send a tutor before a first lesson.

Abu Dhabi has British-curriculum schools entering both Cambridge and Pearson, sometimes in the same family of subjects. A tutor who assumes Cambridge when the school entered Pearson 4PH1 will teach the right physics to the wrong paper structure. Ask the school which board, not which subject, and put the answer in the first email you send any tutor in this emirate.

EDAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE

Pearson's international GCSE runs in May/June and November each year, graded 9-1, with codes such as 4MA1 for Maths A, 4PH1 for Physics and 4EA1 for English Language A. Pearson publishes provisional timetables for future series ahead of the final version, which is why a tutoring plan should be built from the live official timetable rather than from dates copied off a blog. The question paper structure differs from Cambridge's in ways that change revision order.

Several Abu Dhabi schools entering Pearson also offer a November resit route, and the published pattern is instructive: November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026, while June 2026 results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students the following day. A family planning a resit needs that gap in the calendar before they plan the tutoring.

ASAges 16-17 · Year 12

The step into AS and A Level

IGCSE grades decide which A Level subjects a school will let a student take, and the published entry bars in Abu Dhabi schools are usually a grade 7 or an A in the subject, sometimes a 6 with conditions. That makes the final six months of Year 11 a gatekeeping period rather than just an exam period. Tutoring aimed at moving a 6 to a 7 in one subject is often better value than general support across four.

For UAE Ministry of Education equivalency on the British track, a student must show five accredited subjects at IGCSE or GCSE with a grade no lower than E or grade 3, with Arabic and Islamic Education excluded from that count of five, plus one A Level at E or two AS Levels at the same grade. Verify your own case on the ministry's channel before assuming it.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the IGCSE subjects Abu Dhabi families ask for most, with the syllabus code and the component where the marks usually go missing. Rates vary by subject for one reason only: how many tutors in the Gulf timezone can teach it to the top of the Extended tier.

Mathematics (0580 / 0980, Pearson 4MA1)

Core and Extended

The most tutored subject in the emirate and the cheapest per hour because supply is deep. Extended marks leak in algebraic manipulation under time pressure, vectors, and the 'show that' questions where method marks are available and never claimed. Core candidates lose grade 5 by leaving the last two questions blank rather than by failing to understand them.

Physics (0625 / 0972, Pearson 4PH1)

Core and Extended

Scarcer tutors, so rates sit higher. The practical paper is where plans fall apart: Cambridge candidates sit either Paper 5, a practical test, or Paper 6, the alternative to practical, and the two need completely different preparation. Marks go in graph scales, significant figures, and describing a control variable rather than naming one.

Chemistry (0620 / 0971, Pearson 4CH1)

Core and Extended

Organic chemistry and moles calculations dominate the tutoring requests. A common Abu Dhabi pattern is a student who can name every functional group and cannot carry a mole ratio through a two-step calculation. Paper 6 answers lose marks for describing an observation as a conclusion, which is a writing habit rather than a chemistry gap.

Biology (0610 / 0970, Pearson 4BI1)

Core and Extended

Deceptively heavy on precise vocabulary. Extended candidates lose marks for writing 'the plant takes in water' where the mark scheme wants osmosis named with the direction of the gradient. Data-handling questions on enzyme and transpiration experiments are reliably the lowest-scoring section in mocks across this market.

Coordinated and Combined Sciences (0654 / 0653)

Double and single award

Chosen by students who need science without three separate subjects. Tutoring is awkward because one tutor rarely covers all three disciplines to Extended depth, so families often split it. Worth pricing as two half-subjects rather than one, which is usually the cheaper and more honest arrangement.

English First Language (0500 / 0990, Pearson 4EA1)

Core and Extended

Directed writing and the reading summary are the two components where a competent writer still drops a grade. Summary marks are lost by paraphrasing in the source's order instead of selecting; directed writing marks are lost by ignoring the audience named in the task. Both are teachable in a handful of sessions, which makes this good value.

English as a Second Language (0510 / 0991)

Core and Extended

A different qualification from First Language English with a different mark scheme, and the one most often mis-entered. Speaking is assessed separately and the exercise types reward accuracy over range. For Abu Dhabi students arriving mid-cycle from another system, this is frequently the correct entry rather than 0500.

Economics and Business Studies (0455 / 0450)

Extended only in practice

Both reward structure over content. Marks are lost in the evaluation strands, where candidates explain two sides and never reach a judgement supported by the case material. Tutoring here is almost entirely essay-shape work with past-paper command terms, so it tends to need fewer hours than the sciences.

Computer Science and ICT (0478 / 0417)

Core and Extended

0478 is theory plus algorithmic thinking with pseudocode; 0417 is a practical qualification with document and spreadsheet tasks. Parents regularly book the wrong one. Marks go in trace tables and in the practical papers where a single unformatted field loses the mark the task was testing.

Arabic as a First or Additional Language (0508 / 0544)

Both syllabuses

Private schools in the UAE must teach Arabic alongside their licensed curriculum, and the two Cambridge syllabuses are not interchangeable. Students entered for 0544 who have been taught as first-language speakers lose marks on register; the reverse costs far more. Confirm the code before booking a tutor for this subject.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats are genuinely available to an Abu Dhabi family, and they are priced differently for reasons worth understanding. IB Gram delivers one format: one-to-one tuition over live video. The others are described here because you are comparing them, and a comparison you cannot see is not a comparison.

Weekly one-to-one over live video

Sixty or ninety minutes with the same tutor each week, screen-shared past papers, and the student's own working visible on camera as they write it. This is what IB Gram runs for every UAE family. The practical advantage in this emirate is subject depth: an Extended chemistry specialist is matched on subject rather than on postcode, and the lesson starts at the minute it was booked.

  • Same tutor weekly, with a written note after each session
  • Past papers marked to the published mark scheme, not to a tutor's impression
  • Scheduling in Gulf Standard Time around the Abu Dhabi school run
  • Tutor swap on request if the first match is wrong

Intensive blocks before a series

Two or three sessions a week for six to eight weeks ahead of a June or November entry, built backwards from the paper order on the official timetable. Blocks are the format where published market rates move most, because demand concentrates in the same weeks across the whole emirate. Booking a block in January for a June series costs less and secures a better match than booking it in April.

  • Built from the live official timetable for the entered board
  • Paper-by-paper coverage rather than topic-by-topic revision
  • Mock analysis first, so the hours go where the marks went

Single-component repair sessions

One to four sessions aimed at a named weakness: Paper 6 observation writing, graph-plotting conventions, the English summary task, trace tables in 0478. This is the cheapest useful thing a parent can buy and it is almost never what gets sold. If a mock paper shows a clean pattern of lost marks in one component, a short block is better value than a term of general tuition.

  • Priced as a short block rather than an open commitment
  • Starts from the marked mock, with the mark scheme beside it
  • Ends with a repeat question set under timed conditions

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Abu Dhabi

What IGCSE tutoring actually costs in Abu Dhabi, with the sources

  • Divide every monthly package by its teaching hours before comparing it to an hourly rate
  • Ask which band a quote sits in and why, not whether it can be discounted
  • Expect scarce subjects at Extended tier to sit at the top of the specialist band
  • Treat any rate quoted in US dollars on a UAE page as a sign the page was not written for this market

Published hourly rates for IGCSE tutoring in the UAE run from roughly AED 45 to above AED 650, and the spread is real rather than a negotiating position. The low end is university students and large online marketplaces working at volume. The top end is named premium tutors with a long public record. IGCSE subject specialists, which is what most Year 10 and Year 11 families are actually buying, cluster between AED 150 and AED 450 an hour depending on subject scarcity and tier.

The table below sets out the bands with the publisher beside each one, because an unattributed price is worth nothing to a parent comparing quotes. Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 rate table is the most complete public source for the in-home and specialist bands; the lower online bands come from the published starting rates of UAE online providers. These are market figures for the emirate's price level, not IB Gram's charges. We agree a rate with a family after a free trial lesson, which is deliberately the other way round from a published price list.

Two things are worth noticing in the numbers. The in-home band sits above the comparable online band at every tier, and the gap is roughly the cost of a tutor's travel time rather than a quality premium. And the monthly package figures move more than the hourly ones: published monthly packages in this market run near AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 for four two-hour in-home sessions, which is a very different cost per teaching hour once you divide it out.

Six things that move your quote up or down in this emirate

A rate band only becomes a number once six variables are settled, and five of them are inside your control. Subject scarcity is the largest single factor: Extended physics, Extended chemistry and first-language Arabic have far fewer available tutors in the Gulf timezone than maths does, and the rate follows supply. A family booking Extended maths and a family booking 0625 Paper 5 preparation are shopping in two different markets even though the search term was the same.

Timing is the second factor and the most wasteful. Demand across Abu Dhabi concentrates in the eight weeks before a series, which is when the best-matched tutors are already full and the rate at the margin rises. The same tutor booked in January for a June series is both cheaper and more available than in April. Session length is the third: a sixty-minute slot loses five minutes at each end to settling and summarising, so ninety minutes almost always costs less per useful teaching minute.

The remaining three are tier, format and subject count. Extended is wider and harder to teach than Core and sits higher in the band. Format changes the figure by the cost of travel, which in a city this spread out is substantial. And subject count changes it through coordination rather than discount: one tutor covering maths and physics for the same student holds a single picture of that student's exam calendar, which is worth more than the small saving on a second booking fee.

Core or Extended: the decision that changes your total bill

  • Ask the school in Year 10, in writing, which tier your child is on track to be entered for
  • Find out the date entries close for the series, then work backwards from it
  • A tier change needs evidence from mock papers, which is what a tutor can produce
  • Never assume the tier from the class set your child sits in

Cambridge tiers several IGCSE subjects, and the tier your child is entered for is a harder commercial fact than any hourly rate. Core caps the grade available. Extended opens the full range but sits on wider content and a harder paper set. A student entered for Core who needs a grade 6 for an A Level place is in a problem that tutoring cannot solve, because the grade is not reachable on that paper. Finding that out in February costs a year.

In practice, the tier decision is made by the school from mock performance in Year 10, and it is reviewed before the entry deadline rather than after. That review window is the point at which tutoring has the most leverage: moving a borderline student up a tier before entries close changes what they can achieve, while the same hours spent after entries close only improve performance inside a capped scale. Parents in Abu Dhabi routinely discover the tier at the same moment they discover the entry has already been made.

The table sets out the comparison the way a parent needs it, with the tutoring implication in the final column. The numbers of papers and the weightings vary by subject, so treat the row for your child's subject as the shape of the question rather than the answer; the syllabus document on the board's own site carries the exact component structure for the code on their statement of entry.

Online, in-home and group tuition in Abu Dhabi, compared honestly

This is the comparison most parents in the emirate are actually making, and it deserves a straight answer rather than a sales pitch. IB Gram delivers one-to-one tuition online, over live video, to families anywhere in the UAE. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Abu Dhabi; in-home tutoring is a service we run only in India. That is a limit worth stating plainly rather than burying, because it lets the rest of this section be useful instead of defensive.

In-home tuition has two genuine advantages: a young child who cannot yet self-manage a screen, and a household where a parent wants to watch the lesson happen in the room. It has three costs. The rate carries the travel. The tutor pool shrinks to whoever is within driving distance of your community, which in Al Reef or Al Shamkha can mean no Extended physics specialist at all. And the session is vulnerable to traffic in a way a video call is not, so the hour you paid for routinely becomes fifty minutes.

Online one-to-one removes the radius problem and keeps the hour intact, which is why the published online bands sit below the in-home ones. The trade is that it needs a quiet room, a working camera and a student old enough to write while being watched on screen. Group tuition is cheaper per student and works where a group genuinely shares a syllabus, a tier and a board; it stops working the moment one student needs Paper 6 technique and another needs the mole calculations they missed in Year 10.

The two-year IGCSE plan, costed properly

Hourly rates mislead because nobody buys one hour. The honest unit is the two-year plan, and once you cost it that way the decisions change. A single subject taken at one hour a week through Years 10 and 11 is roughly sixty teaching weeks of tutoring. At the middle of the specialist band that is a substantial commitment, and almost no family needs it in that shape. What most families need is uneven: light in Year 10, concentrated in the two terms before the series, intensive on one or two components.

The figures published for monthly spend in this market make the point. Aggregated UAE estimates for a weekly one-hour session run near AED 240 to AED 600 a month at the budget end, AED 600 to AED 1,200 in the middle, and AED 1,000 to AED 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. Those are monthly numbers for one subject. A family planning three subjects at exam-year intensity should be reading the top row and multiplying, which is exactly the arithmetic nobody does before committing.

The alternative shape costs considerably less and usually works better. Diagnose from a marked mock paper. Spend on the components where the marks actually went, in short blocks. Use the school's own clinics for the content gaps they can cover. Keep continuous weekly tuition only for the subject where the grade is load-bearing for an A Level place. The table below is the planning frame, with the items parents most often forget set out as line items rather than surprises.

Checking a tutor's right to teach before you pay anyone

  • Ask directly whether the tutor holds a MoHRE private tuition work permit
  • Treat a request for cash with no written terms as a reason to walk away
  • Never engage your child's own subject teacher from their own school for paid tuition
  • Ask what happens to your child's data and how to have it deleted

Private tutoring in the UAE is permitted work, not unregulated work. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is issued through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. It is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged fifteen to eighteen, and university students. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit from MoHRE are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws; no fine schedule is published, so no amount should be quoted to you by anyone.

Because the permit is free and takes about two working days through the MoHRE smart app, website or e-services system under the service named Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, there is no cost argument for not holding one. That makes it the single most useful question a parent can ask, and the answer is binary. A tutor who holds the permit can say so plainly. One who explains why it does not apply to them is telling you something.

There is a second check specific to this emirate. Abu Dhabi's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff, as reported in the Gulf press, bar teachers from providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and the permit's code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with the permit-holder's own school. Verify the current wording against ADEK's own policy document before relying on it, but the practical implication is clear: your child's own classroom teacher is the one person who should not be taking your money for private lessons.

What a good IGCSE tutor will not do with your child's coursework

  • A tutor teaches, reviews and gives feedback; the submitted work stays the student's own
  • Ask how a draft is handled before the first coursework session, not after
  • Expect the official syllabus document for the exact code, referenced by its publisher
  • Treat any offer of completed assessed work as a reason to end the conversation

Several pages ranking for IGCSE and IB searches in this market sell completed assessed work. One of them prices a finished Internal Assessment openly. For a family, the risk is entirely one-sided: the examination board's malpractice process acts on the candidate, not on the person who was paid. A tutor who offers to produce coursework is offering your child a penalty with a receipt attached.

The line is not blurry, and it is worth holding a tutor to it explicitly. A tutor may teach the content, explain what a mark scheme rewards, discuss a student's own draft and give feedback on it, model a technique on a different question, and practise timed work. A tutor may not write, rewrite or complete any part of an assessed piece, supply model answers to be submitted, or edit a draft to the point where the words are no longer the student's. Ask any prospective tutor how they handle a coursework draft; the answer separates teachers from suppliers in one sentence.

The same applies to materials. Published syllabus documents, past papers and mark schemes belong to the boards and should be referenced and linked, not bundled and sold as a resource pack. A tutor working from the official syllabus document for the exact code on your child's statement of entry is doing the job properly. One working from a photocopied pack of unattributed questions is working from someone else's guess about the syllabus, and that guess is the thing you are paying for.

08

The eight weeks before a series, counted backwards

The most expensive mistake in this market is not overpaying for an hour. It is starting in the wrong month. IGCSE entries close months before the papers are sat, and the whole emirate's demand for tutoring lands in the same short window afterwards. Cambridge runs its exams in a June series and a November series, with Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests in March, May and October. Pearson's international GCSE runs in May/June and November. Both publish official timetables, and both revise them, which is why a plan should be built from the live timetable on the board's own site rather than from a date someone typed on a blog.

The dates that matter for an Abu Dhabi candidate come from the two series the emirate actually sits. Pearson's International GCSE November 2026 timetable runs from late October to 19 November 2026, and the results lag is real: June 2026 results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students the day after, while November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Cambridge follows the same logic across its June and November series. Entries for the June papers close in the spring, roughly four months ahead, and the exact day is printed on the centre's statement of entry rather than fixed on any public page, so ask the exams officer for it in writing and count backwards from that. The deadline, not the exam date, is the thing a family has to plan around: by the time entries close, the board and the tier are already settled and a late correction costs money or is simply refused.

There is one more Cambridge detail almost no tutoring page mentions and every Abu Dhabi parent should know. Every Cambridge exam centre is allocated to one of six administrative zones, and Cambridge states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, adding that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after the wrong zone timetable was used. Ask your child's exams officer which zone the centre sits in, then build the revision plan from that version of the timetable and nothing else.

What to ask before you agree a rate

  • The four-digit syllabus code, taken from the statement of entry
  • Which papers, and for sciences whether the practical or the alternative paper
  • What written record follows each session, and who marks the past papers
  • Cancellation terms, notice period, and whether the rate is per clock hour

A quote becomes comparable only once you know what is inside it. The questions below are the ones that reliably expose a difference between two tutors who have given you the same number. None of them is adversarial; a tutor who teaches this syllabus for a living will answer all nine in a single conversation and will usually be glad the questions were asked.

Start with the syllabus code rather than the subject. 'Physics' is not an answer; 0625, 0972 or 4PH1 is. Then ask which papers the entry involves, and for the sciences specifically whether the entry is for the practical test or the alternative to practical, because those need different preparation and the tutor who does not ask the question has not planned the lessons. Ask how a session ends: a written note naming what was covered and what to practise is the difference between a term of tuition and a term of company.

Finish with the commercial terms. How is a cancelled session treated. What is the notice period. Is the rate per clock hour or per booked session. Who marks the past papers and against which mark scheme. Whether the first lesson is free and what, if anything, is required to take it. In our case the trial lesson is free, one per family, with no card details taken, and the rate is agreed afterwards once you have seen the teaching. That sequence is the point: the price should be the last question, not the first.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi tutoring is a logistics problem before it is an academic one. The emirate's school population is spread across the island, the Khalifa City and Al Raha corridor, and the newer mainland communities, and the distance between them is what makes in-home tuition expensive here. These notes are about time, not geography.

Khalifa City

Dense in British and American curriculum families, with several large school campuses inside a few kilometres. The school run clears late enough that a 4pm start is rarely realistic; 5.30pm and 7pm are the slots that actually get kept, which is exactly what online scheduling makes easy.

Al Reef

Far enough out that an in-home tutor is pricing a forty-minute drive each way into a one-hour lesson. Families here are the clearest case for online delivery: the saving is not a discount, it is the travel that never happens.

Al Raha Gardens and Al Raha Beach

Villa communities feeding mainly British-curriculum schools, with a strong IGCSE cohort in Years 10 and 11. Siblings often need different subjects at the same hour, which a video schedule handles and a single visiting tutor cannot.

Saadiyat Island

Smaller cohort, high proportion of students at island schools offering both British and IB routes. Requests here skew towards single-subject specialists at Extended tier, which is the part of the market where tutor supply is thinnest and rates sit highest.

Al Reem Island

Apartment living with newer school capacity nearby. Evening traffic across the bridges is the deciding factor for anyone considering a visiting tutor; a 6pm in-home booking routinely becomes a 6.25pm start.

Al Bateen and Al Khalidiyah

Established island neighbourhoods with long-standing schools and a mixed curriculum intake. Parking and building access add minutes to in-home sessions that nobody quotes for, and the short lesson that results is the hidden cost.

Mohammed Bin Zayed City and Al Shamkha

Large, spread-out communities where the nearest subject specialist may be nowhere near. Online matching removes the radius problem entirely, which matters most for Extended physics, chemistry and the second-language entries.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi island

The island's long-established schools run IGCSE and A Level alongside IB routes, and their published ADEK inspection reports are the fastest way to see where a school is strong and where your child will need outside help. Students we support attend schools across this cluster.

  • American Community School of Abu Dhabi
  • Brighton College Abu Dhabi
  • Abu Dhabi International School
  • Al Bateen Academy
  • Repton Abu Dhabi

Khalifa City, Al Raha and the mainland corridor

This corridor holds much of the emirate's British-curriculum IGCSE cohort, which is why subject demand here is predictable: maths, the three separate sciences, and English First Language in Year 11. Demand peaks in the eight weeks before the June series.

  • Al Yasmina Academy
  • Raha International School
  • GEMS American Academy Abu Dhabi
  • Al Mamoura Academy
  • Cranleigh Abu Dhabi
  • West Yas Academy

Schools are named here as context for the Abu Dhabi IGCSE market; IB Gram is an independent tutor-matching platform with no affiliation with, or endorsement from, any school, group or examination board named on this page.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the code, not the subject

Tell us the four-digit syllabus code from your child's statement of entry, the tier if it is known, and the series they are entered for. That single line removes most of the guesswork, because it fixes the board, the paper structure and the grade scale before anyone has taught a lesson.

  2. 02

A free trial lesson, one per family

Thirty minutes with the matched tutor at no charge and with no card details taken. The aim is not a sales call; it is to see whether your child talks to this particular adult about a maths question. If they do not, we match again rather than persuade you that they will warm up.

  3. 03

    Diagnose from a marked paper

The first full session works from a mock or past paper that has already been marked, with the mark scheme beside it. Marks lost in method, in reading the command term, and in simply running out of paper are three different problems with three different fixes, and only the paper shows which one you have.

  4. 04

Agree the rate and the shape

Once the trial is done, we agree an hourly rate and the shape of the plan: weekly, a pre-series block, or a short component repair. The rate is set against the market bands published on this page rather than against what a family might be willing to pay.

  5. 05

    Review against the exam calendar

Every few weeks the plan is checked against the official timetable for the entered series and the school's own deadlines. If a subject has stabilised, hours move to the one that has not. The plan should shrink as the year goes on, not grow.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The rates on this page are the market's, with sources

Every AED figure here is attributed to who published it and when. Three of the six pages ranking for this search publish no price at all, and two quote in dollars. A parent comparing quotes needs a reference band more than they need another promise, so the band is printed and sourced.

Subject match instead of postcode match

Online delivery means an Extended chemistry specialist is matched to a family in Al Reef on subject depth rather than on driving distance. In an emirate this spread out, that is the difference between the right tutor and the available one, and it is the main reason the format is worth choosing on its merits.

Syllabus codes, not subject labels

0580 and 0980 are the same maths content on two different grade scales; 0620 Paper 5 and Paper 6 need different preparation. Teaching to the code on the statement of entry is basic competence, and it is routinely missing from pages that advertise generic subject tutoring in this market.

The coursework line is stated, not implied

A tutor teaches, reviews and gives feedback on the student's own work. Nobody here will write, complete or edit assessed work to completion, because the board's malpractice process falls on the candidate. Competing pages in this search sell finished Internal Assessments; that difference is worth being explicit about.

No office, no claimed accreditation, no invented statistics

IB Gram is an independent tutor-matching platform. It holds no approval from ADEK, the Ministry of Education, Cambridge or Pearson, operates no centre in the UAE, and publishes no satisfaction percentage or star rating it cannot evidence. What it can show you is a free trial lesson and a tutor who knows the paper.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Abu Dhabi: your questions answered

How much should an IGCSE tutor in Abu Dhabi cost per hour in 2026-27?+

Published rates across the UAE run from about AED 45 an hour for university-student tutors online to AED 650 for named premium tutors. IGCSE subject specialists, which is what most Year 10 and Year 11 families need, sit between AED 150 and AED 450 depending on subject scarcity and tier. In-home rates run higher, roughly AED 180 to AED 500, because the travel is inside the rate. Those are market figures published by UAE providers and by Bestimate's 2026 rate table, not IB Gram's charges; we agree a rate after a free trial lesson rather than publishing a list.

Why do two Abu Dhabi tutors quote AED 150 and AED 450 for the same subject?+

Usually because they are selling different things. The lower quote is often a generalist working at Core tier, or a university student, or a visiting tutor who happens to live nearby. The higher one is typically a subject specialist working at Extended tier in a subject with few available tutors. Ask both for the four-digit syllabus code they teach to, which papers the entry involves, and what written record follows a session. If both answers are identical, negotiate. If one cannot name the code, the gap is not a pricing difference.

Is a cheaper online IGCSE tutor a false economy in Year 11?+

Not automatically, but the risk is concentrated. In Year 10 a competent generalist can carry most Core-tier content perfectly well. In the final two terms of Year 11 the work is paper technique: which command term wants what, where method marks hide, how to read a six-mark question. A tutor who has not taught that specific paper set will teach content the student already has. Judge by whether they ask for a marked mock before quoting, not by the rate. The cheapest hour that moves no marks is the expensive one.

Does Extended tier cost more to tutor than Core?+

Usually yes, by roughly the width of one band. The reason is not a surcharge. Extended covers the core content plus the supplement, sits on a harder paper set, and needs technique work that Core candidates do not require, so it takes more weeks and a narrower pool of tutors can teach it to the top of the scale. The more important point is that tier caps the grade available. Confirm from the statement of entry which tier your child is entered for before you plan any budget around a target grade.

What does a quoted hourly rate usually leave out?+

Four things. Marking time, if past papers are being marked properly against the published mark scheme rather than skimmed. The written note after each session, which some tutors treat as extra. Travel, which is inside in-home rates but shortens the lesson rather than extending it. And the difference between a clock hour and a booked session, where a sixty-minute slot can become fifty minutes of teaching. Ask which of the four are included before comparing two numbers, because the quote with the lower figure is not always the lower cost per taught hour.

Should we pay per session or buy a monthly IGCSE package?+

Do the division first. Published monthly packages in this market include figures near AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 for four two-hour in-home sessions. The first is eight teaching hours, the second is eight as well, so the cost per hour differs sharply even though both look like one monthly number. Packages help when the schedule is genuinely weekly and you want a fixed cost. They hurt when your child needs a short component block instead, which is often the better purchase.

How many hours of IGCSE tutoring does one subject actually need?+

Fewer than most plans assume, if the hours are aimed. A single weak component, such as graph conventions or the English summary task, often moves within two to four sessions once a marked mock has shown exactly where the marks went. A subject where a student is two years behind on foundational algebra needs a term or more. The useful sequence is diagnose, aim, review: buy a short block, check whether marks moved on a timed repeat, then decide whether to continue. Open-ended weekly tuition without that review is how budgets drift.

Do tutoring rates in Abu Dhabi rise closer to the June series?+

At the margin, yes. Demand across the emirate concentrates in roughly the same eight weeks before a series, so by April the best-matched tutors in scarce subjects are full and whatever is left is priced accordingly. The fix is calendar rather than negotiation: book scarce subjects, Extended physics and chemistry in particular, in the term before the one you need them. A family booking in January gets both a better match and a steadier rate than the same family booking in April for the same series.

Is VAT included in the tutoring prices quoted in Abu Dhabi?+

Ask the provider to confirm in writing, and get the answer before the first invoice rather than after. We do not publish a view on how UAE VAT applies to tuition fees, because that is a matter for the Federal Tax Authority and its own guidance rather than for a tutoring page. What a parent can reasonably require is clarity: whether the figure quoted is the figure payable, whether any tax is added on top, and whether a tax registration number appears on the invoice. A provider who cannot answer that in one line is worth a second look.

Can one tutor cover both maths and physics to keep our costs down?+

Often, and the benefit is bigger than the saving. Maths and physics overlap in rearranging formulae, handling units, and reading graphs, and a tutor holding both subjects sees the same error appear twice and fixes it once. It also means one person holding the whole exam calendar for that student rather than two people each assuming the other noticed the entry deadline. It does not work everywhere: coordinated sciences across three disciplines at Extended depth is usually better split between two specialists.

What is the cheapest honest way to get IGCSE help in Abu Dhabi?+

Use the school first. Subject clinics, department revision sessions and the teacher's own feedback on a marked mock cost nothing and are already paid for inside the fees. Then buy narrowly: one marked paper analysed properly, a short block on the single component where marks leaked, and a timed repeat to see whether it worked. Group tuition is genuinely cheaper where a group shares board, tier and timetable. The expensive option is not the high hourly rate; it is a term of general tuition bought without a diagnosis.

Does a tutor for a family in Khalifa City cost more than one on Abu Dhabi island?+

For in-home tuition, location changes the quote, because the travel is inside the rate and the available pool is whoever can reach you. A family in Al Reef or Al Shamkha pays for a longer drive and chooses from fewer tutors than a family on the island. For online delivery, location is irrelevant to the rate: the same Extended chemistry specialist costs the same whether your child is in Khalifa City, on Al Reem Island or on Saadiyat. That is the clearest financial argument for the format in an emirate this spread out.

How do I check an Abu Dhabi tutor is permitted to teach before I pay them?+

Ask whether they hold the MoHRE private tuition work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. It is granted free of charge for two years, and the application runs through MoHRE's smart app, website or e-services under Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, with a two-working-day completion time. Because it costs nothing, there is no reason not to hold one. Working without a permit exposes the tutor to fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no fine schedule is published, so treat any figure quoted to you with suspicion.

Is it acceptable to pay our child's own IGCSE teacher for private lessons?+

They should not. Abu Dhabi's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff, as reported in the Gulf press, bar teachers from providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and the private tuition permit's code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with the permit-holder's own school. Verify the current wording against ADEK's own policy document, but the practical position is settled: pick a tutor from outside your child's school. It also avoids the conflict of a teacher being paid to fix what they are already paid to teach.

What should we ask for in writing before the first invoice?+

Five lines. The syllabus code and tier being taught. Whether the rate is per clock hour or per booked session, and whether any tax is added. The cancellation and notice terms. What written record follows each session and who marks the past papers. And what happens if the match is wrong, including whether a different tutor is offered at the same rate. None of this is unusual to ask, and a tutor who teaches this syllabus for a living will have answered it before.

Start with a marked paper and a free trial lesson

The most useful thing you can do this week costs nothing: find your child's statement of entry, note the four-digit syllabus code and the tier, and dig out the most recent marked mock paper. Those two documents turn a vague search for the best IGCSE tutor in Abu Dhabi into a specific question a specialist can answer. Then take the free trial lesson, one per family, with no card details taken, and watch how the tutor handles the paper in front of them. The rate is agreed after that, against the published market bands on this page. Lessons run one-to-one over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time, anywhere in the emirate.
