IGCSE Tuition near me in Abu Dhabi

A search for IGCSE tuition near me in Abu Dhabi is phrased as a distance question, but the thing that moves a grade is the specification your child is actually entered for. This page sets out what each IGCSE component assesses, where the marks go missing, and what a single session can repair. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, so a family in Al Reef and a family on Saadiyat Island reach the same subject specialist rather than the nearest one with a free evening.

  • Live one-to-one video lessons on Gulf Standard Time, no travel either way
  • Taught to the syllabus code on the statement of entry, not a subject label
  • First session free: one trial lesson per family, no card details taken
  • Market AED rate bands published with the source named beside each one

IB & IGCSE in Abu Dhabi

A distance question with an academic answer

Typing IGCSE tuition near me in Abu Dhabi produces a map, a handful of tuition centres clustered on the island and around Khalifa City, and a few agency pages that name no school, no syllabus code and no price. The map is answering a question about geography. Your child's grade is decided by something else entirely: which specification they are entered for, which papers that specification makes them sit, and which of those papers is currently leaking marks. None of that appears on a map pin.

This matters more in Abu Dhabi than in most cities, because the emirate is long. A tutor who is genuinely nearby for a family in Al Mushrif is forty minutes from Al Reef and closer to an hour from Al Shamkha at six in the evening. Proximity, treated as the main filter, shrinks the list of candidates to whoever happens to live on the right side of the bridges and then asks that short list to cover Extended chemistry, English First Language and Additional Mathematics. That is how families end up with a general tutor for a specific problem.

The alternative is to filter on the specification instead. Cambridge IGCSE Physics 0625 candidates sit either Paper 5, a timed practical, or Paper 6, the alternative to practical, and the two require different preparation that has almost nothing in common. Cambridge Mathematics 0580 is graded A* to G while 0980 is graded 9 to 1 on the same content. Pearson Edexcel 4MA1 tiers its papers differently again. A tutor who has not asked which of those applies is guessing, however short the drive.

So this page is arranged around the paper rather than the postcode. It explains what a near-me search actually returns and what each result type conceals, then works through the components an IGCSE candidate sits, the two grade scales in circulation, and the specific places marks disappear in the subjects Abu Dhabi families ask about most. After that there is a section that prices proximity honestly: what a drive across the emirate costs in time, and what time of evening a session can realistically start in each community.

Two practical points before the detail. IB Gram delivers one-to-one tuition over live video to families across the emirate and does not offer home visits in Abu Dhabi; visiting tutors are a service available only in India. And every AED figure on this page is a published market rate attributed to whoever published it, not a price list. Abu Dhabi's private schools are inspected by ADEK, the Department of Education and Knowledge, which supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in the emirate, and your child's school report plus its published inspection outcome is free reading that will tell you more about what help is needed than any search result will.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

IGCSE is one stage in a longer sequence, and Abu Dhabi families arrive at it from several directions. The stage your child is at changes what a session is for: diagnosis, repair or exam technique. These are the four stages where families in the emirate most often ask for help.

LSAges 11-14 · Years 7-9

Cambridge Lower Secondary and Checkpoint

The three years before IGCSE, assessed by Checkpoint tests that Cambridge offers in March, May and October. Checkpoint is not a public qualification and no admissions office will ever read it, which is exactly why it is useful: it is an unpressured read on whether a child is heading for the Core or the Extended tier in maths and science. Gaps found here are cheap to close because no entry deadline is pressing on them.

In Abu Dhabi, several of the larger British-curriculum schools in the Khalifa City and Al Raha corridor set maths groups from Year 8, and that setting tends to follow a child into the tier decision two years later. A parent who reads the Year 8 Checkpoint breakdown closely often finds the same topic strand named in the Year 10 report. Acting at this stage is the one point where tuition is genuinely optional rather than remedial.

IG10Ages 14-15 · Year 10

IGCSE Year 10

The first of the two examined years. Content is taught for the first time, tier decisions are made or confirmed, and coursework folders open in subjects that still carry them. Most of the syllabus a candidate will be examined on is delivered this year, which makes Year 10 the cheapest year to buy tuition in and the one families most often skip. A weak Year 10 foundation becomes a Year 11 revision problem that revision cannot fix.

Abu Dhabi schools vary in when they commit a child to Core or Extended, and some confirm it only after the Year 10 end-of-year papers. Families here benefit from asking the subject lead directly, in writing, which tier the child is provisionally entered for and what would change it. A session in Year 10 that closes an algebra or a stoichiometry gap removes a whole category of Year 11 panic.

IG11Ages 15-16 · Year 11

IGCSE Year 11 and the examined series

The year of mocks, final entries and the series itself. Teaching gives way to paper practice, and the useful work changes character: marked scripts, command-word drills, timing under pressure and the specific components a child keeps losing marks in. Demand for tutors across the emirate concentrates in the eight to ten weeks before a series, which is also when the best subject specialists stop having free slots.

Entry deadlines sit months ahead of the papers. Pearson's November 2026 International GCSE papers ran to 19 November 2026 and the entries for them closed months earlier in the year; Cambridge's June series closes its entries during the spring term, on a date the centre confirms rather than one published as a national deadline. A family deciding in January what to do about a June entry is deciding late, not early, and the cost of lateness in Abu Dhabi is availability rather than money.

POSTAges 16-17 · Year 12 entry

After IGCSE: A Level, IB Diploma or a retake

IGCSE grades become entry conditions for the next stage, and a single weak grade can close a route. Schools set their own thresholds for A Level or Diploma subjects, usually a grade 6 or 7 for a subject taken at the harder level. Retake entries are available in the following series, and a candidate may enter privately for one subject while studying the next qualification full time.

For Abu Dhabi families, the other consideration is Ministry of Education equivalency, which the UAE requires for certificates used in the national system. The British track asks for five accredited subjects at GCSE or IGCSE at no less than grade E or grade 3, with Arabic and Islamic education excluded from that count, plus one subject at Advanced Level at grade E or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level. That count is worth checking before a subject is dropped.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the IGCSE subjects Abu Dhabi families ask about most, with the syllabus codes in circulation here and the component where marks tend to go. The code matters: the same subject name can mean a different paper structure, a different grade scale and a different practical route depending on which board and specification the school entered.

Mathematics (0580 and 0980, Pearson 4MA1)

Core and Extended

The most requested subject in the emirate. Extended candidates lose marks in algebraic manipulation under time pressure, in vectors, and in the 'show that' questions where method marks sit unclaimed because no working was written down. Core candidates more often leave the final questions blank than answer them wrongly, which is a pacing problem rather than a knowledge one.

Physics (0625 and 0972, Pearson 4PH1)

Core and Extended

The practical route is the thing to establish first: Cambridge candidates sit Paper 5, a timed practical, or Paper 6, the alternative to practical, and schools decide which. Marks leak in graph axis choice, in significant figures carried through a calculation, and in describing a control variable rather than merely naming it. Electricity and moments are the recurring content gaps.

Chemistry (0620 and 0971, Pearson 4CH1)

Core and Extended

Moles work separates grades more cleanly than any other strand, because it compounds: a shaky relative formula mass makes every titration and yield calculation unreliable. Organic chemistry rewards pattern recognition that students rarely build from notes alone. The alternative-to-practical paper asks for observation language that is specific and testable, not descriptive prose.

Biology (0610 and 0970, Pearson 4BI1)

Core and Extended

Content volume is the problem rather than difficulty. Marks go missing in extended-response answers that describe a process without using the command term's required depth, and in data questions where a trend is stated without a quoted value. Transport in plants, genetics crosses and enzyme experiments are the strands that most often need rebuilding from first principles.

English First Language (0500 and 0990)

Single tier

A technique subject, which is why it responds quickly to tuition. The directed-writing task and the summary task have scoring conventions that are learnable in a handful of sessions: audience and register for the first, and ruthless compression without copied phrasing for the second. Analysis answers lose marks when a quotation is presented rather than used.

English as a Second Language (0510 and 0511)

Single tier, with speaking variants

The reading tasks reward accuracy in locating and transcribing information, and candidates lose marks in the note-making and summary exercises by writing too much. Common in Abu Dhabi's mixed-intake schools, and often the subject where a strong student is entered on the wrong specification variant because the speaking component differs between 0510 and 0511.

Coordinated and Combined Sciences (0654 and 0653)

Core and Extended

Double and single award routes that cover all three sciences in fewer papers. The content is narrower than the separate sciences but the papers move faster between disciplines, and candidates who revise biology, chemistry and physics as separate subjects are often unprepared for how little depth each question wants. Useful to confirm which award your child is entered for.

Additional Mathematics (0606)

Single tier, extension course

Taken alongside or after Extended Mathematics by students heading for A Level Maths or a Diploma analysis course. Calculus, trigonometric identities and functions arrive early and without the scaffolding of the main syllabus. Tutor supply is thinner for this code than for 0580, which is the clearest case on this page for matching on subject rather than on location.

Economics (0455)

Single tier

A diagram subject disguised as an essay subject. The marks in the structured questions hang on correctly labelled axes, a shifted curve and a stated new equilibrium, and candidates who explain in prose what a diagram should show lose the easiest marks on the paper. Evaluation questions need a position taken and defended, not a list of advantages and disadvantages.

Computer Science (0478)

Single tier

The theory paper and the problem-solving paper reward different habits. Trace tables, pseudocode conventions and the distinction between validation and verification are where marks are routinely dropped, and the practical programming element needs regular short practice rather than long revision sessions. A code-focused session with a screen shared is a natural fit for online delivery.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats are genuinely available to an Abu Dhabi family, and they suit different problems. IB Gram delivers one of them: one-to-one tuition over live video. The others are described because you are comparing them, and a comparison you cannot see is not a comparison worth making.

A single diagnostic session from a marked paper

Sixty minutes spent on one already-marked mock, with the published mark scheme beside it, to establish which of three different problems a child has: content not known, command term misread, or paper not finished. Those three cost different amounts of time to fix and respond to different work. This is the cheapest useful thing a parent can buy and it is almost never what gets sold.

  • Works from the script the school has already marked
  • Ends with a written note naming the component losing marks
  • No commitment to a weekly slot afterwards

Weekly one-to-one over live video

Sixty or ninety minutes with the same tutor each week, screen-shared past papers, and the student's own working visible on camera as it is written. This is what IB Gram runs for every UAE family. The advantage specific to this emirate is depth of match: an Extended chemistry or 0606 specialist is found on subject rather than on driving distance, and the lesson starts at the minute it was booked.

  • The same tutor each week, with a note after every session
  • Papers marked against the published mark scheme, not an impression
  • Scheduling in Gulf Standard Time around the Abu Dhabi school run
  • A different tutor on request if the first match does not work

Component repair blocks before a series

Two to six sessions aimed at one named weakness rather than a whole subject: Paper 6 observation writing, graph conventions, the English summary task, trace tables in 0478. Blocks are built backwards from the paper order on the board's live timetable, so the last session before the exam covers the first paper sat rather than whatever came next in the textbook.

  • Scoped to a component, not a subject
  • Built from the official timetable for the entered series
  • Ends with a repeat question set under timed conditions

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Abu Dhabi

01

What a near-me search actually returns in Abu Dhabi, and what each result hides

  • Ask any centre which specification code its group follows before you book a trial
  • Ask any individual tutor for their MoHRE private tuition work permit, which is free and valid for two years
  • Ask the school's subject lead what tier the child is provisionally entered for, in writing
  • Bring the most recent marked mock to the first session, with its mark scheme if the school released one

A near-me search in this emirate returns four kinds of thing, and only one of them is a tutor. The map pack lists tuition centres with premises, which are licensed businesses teaching groups on a timetable. Below that come agency pages that rank on the phrase without naming a single school, specification or rate. Then classified listings, where an individual advertises availability and a subject list. Then school-run support, which is not a search result at all but is often the cheapest option a family has not asked about.

Each type conceals something different. A centre's map pin tells you where the building is, not whether it teaches your child's specification; a centre running a Cambridge 0580 group cannot also run a Pearson 4MA1 group for two students in the same room, so one of them is being taught the wrong paper structure. An agency page that quotes no figure is concealing a rate it does not want compared. A classified listing conceals whether the person holds the private tuition work permit that UAE law requires. School-run support conceals nothing, which is why it should be the first call rather than the last.

The practical move is to stop filtering on distance and start filtering on four facts: the board, the specification code, the tier, and the component currently losing marks. All four are available to you this week. The first three are printed on the statement of entry the school issues before a series, or obtainable from the subject lead in one email. The fourth is in the most recent marked mock paper. A tutor who can answer what Paper 6 asks for differently from Paper 5 is more useful than one who lives eight minutes away and cannot.

What an IGCSE candidate is actually assessed on, component by component

IGCSE grades are built from components, and a component is a specific paper with its own rules, timing and reward structure. A candidate who knows the content but has never been taught what each component wants will drop marks in predictable places. This is the part of the qualification that tuition can move fastest, because component technique is learnable in weeks where content mastery takes terms.

Across the subjects Abu Dhabi families take, six component types recur. There is a short-answer or multiple-choice paper that tests breadth, a structured or extended-response paper that tests depth and command-term discipline, a practical or alternative-to-practical paper in the sciences, a directed-writing or composition paper in the languages, a speaking or listening component in some language specifications, and in a shrinking number of subjects a coursework or portfolio element assessed internally and moderated by the board.

The combinations differ by board. A Cambridge candidate in a science will sit either the practical test or the alternative to practical, decided by the school, and preparation for one is close to useless for the other. A Pearson Edexcel candidate may sit a different number of papers for the same subject at the same level. What this means for a parent is simple: the question to ask a prospective tutor is not whether they teach chemistry but which chemistry papers your child is entered for and what each one rewards. A tutor who answers that precisely has read the specification. A tutor who answers it vaguely will teach content and hope.

IGCSE COMPONENT TYPES AND WHAT EACH REWARDS

Two grade scales are in circulation, and your child is on one of them

Abu Dhabi parents comparing notes at the school gate are often comparing different scales without knowing it. Cambridge issues some IGCSE syllabuses on an A* to G scale and others, with a nine in the code, on a 9 to 1 scale. Mathematics 0580 is the A* to G version and 0980 the 9 to 1 version of the same content. Physics 0625 and 0972 pair the same way, as do chemistry 0620 and 0971 and biology 0610 and 0970. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE uses a 9 to 1 scale across its specifications.

This is not cosmetic. A grade 7 is not a grade A, and the two scales divide the top of the ability range differently: where A* was one grade, the 9 to 1 scale separates 9, 8 and 7, which changes what a sixth-form entry requirement of a grade 7 actually demands. A family targeting a grade for an A Level or Diploma place needs to know which scale the school entered the child on before they can know whether the target is realistic or already met.

There is a second consequence for tuition planning. A child one mark below a boundary on a nine-point scale has a smaller gap to close than the same child on a seven-letter scale, because the bands are narrower. That makes a late, targeted intervention more likely to show up as a grade change on 9 to 1 than on A* to G. It also makes it more likely that a small slip costs a grade. Either way, the honest version is that no tutor can promise a boundary will be crossed; what a tutor can do is put the marks in reach and show you, from a marked paper, how far away they currently are.

WHICH GRADE SCALE APPLIES, BY SYLLABUS CODE
Code patternGrade scaleWorked exampleWhat it changes for a target grade

04

Where the marks actually go, subject by subject

Mark loss at IGCSE is repetitive. Across a few hundred marked scripts the same leaks appear, and almost none of them are failures of intelligence. They are habits: working not written down, a command term read as a synonym for a different one, a graph drawn to the wrong scale, an answer to the question the candidate expected rather than the one printed. A parent who knows which of these their child does has already narrowed a vague worry into a job of work.

The useful discipline is to diagnose from a script rather than from a report. A school report says a child is working at grade 6 and needs to show more detail in extended answers. That is true and not actionable. A marked paper says the child scored full marks on the recall questions, lost four marks on a single six-mark explain question, and left the last two parts blank. Those three facts point to three different fixes, two of which are technique and one of which is pacing.

The table below sets out the leaks that recur most in the subjects Abu Dhabi families ask about, with the repair beside each. None of them requires a tutor who lives nearby. All of them require a tutor who has seen enough scripts in that specific specification to recognise the pattern in minutes rather than weeks, which is an argument for matching on subject depth rather than on postcode.

Proximity priced out: what a drive across this emirate really costs

Distance is not free, and in Abu Dhabi it is rarely cheap. A tutor who travels is selling an hour of teaching inside two hours of their evening, and that cost sits in the rate whether or not it is itemised on the invoice. Published UAE market figures show the gap plainly: in-home one-to-one rates are quoted from roughly AED 180 to AED 500 an hour, against roughly AED 150 to AED 300 for a qualified subject tutor online, with IGCSE and A Level specialists quoted between AED 200 and AED 450 by rate aggregators. The difference is travel, not teaching quality.

The second cost is scheduling. A visiting tutor who has to reach Al Shamkha from the island at six in the evening cannot hold a 5.30pm slot reliably, and the slot that gets dropped is usually the one nearest the exam. Families in the newer mainland communities feel this most, because the supply of tutors lives disproportionately on the island and in the central corridor. An online slot starts when it was booked, which in an exam term is worth more than the rate difference.

The third cost is the one nobody prices: the shortlist. Filtering by drive time from a villa in Al Reef reduces the pool of available tutors to a handful, and then asks that handful to cover Additional Mathematics 0606, Extended chemistry and English First Language. Removing the drive widens the pool to every tutor who can teach the specification in the Gulf timezone. To be plain about it: IB Gram does not offer home visits in Abu Dhabi, and visiting tutors are a service we provide only in India. The case for online delivery here is not that it is a cheaper substitute; it is that it is the only format in which a 0606 specialist and a family in Al Shamkha can share a Tuesday evening.

Core or Extended: the decision that sets the grade ceiling

  • The tier, not the hours, sets the top grade available in a tiered subject
  • Ask in writing which tier the entry will be made on and what would change it
  • A Core to Extended move is a term of content, not a revision block
  • Check the tier against the sixth-form or Diploma entry requirement the child is aiming at

In tiered IGCSE subjects the tier decides the top grade available. A Core maths candidate cannot reach the highest grades on the scale however well the papers go, because the Core papers do not contain the questions those grades are awarded for. This makes the tier decision more consequential than any choice of tutor, and it is usually made by a subject lead in Year 10 on the evidence of internal assessments.

Parents can engage with that decision, and in Abu Dhabi they often need to, because cohorts here are mobile. A child who joined in Year 10 from a different system may have been placed on evidence that reflects an unfamiliar curriculum rather than their ceiling. A child who was set into a lower maths group in Year 8 may still be carrying that setting three years later. The question to ask, in writing, is which tier the child is provisionally entered for, what evidence that rests on, and what performance would change it. Schools answer that question properly when it is asked specifically.

Tuition changes the arithmetic in two ways. Moving from Core to Extended requires covering content the child has not been taught, which is a term of work rather than a few sessions, and it is only worth starting if the entry deadline is far enough away. Staying on Core and targeting the top of that tier is a smaller job with a certain ceiling. Neither route is the obviously right one; what is wrong is discovering in April which tier the entry was made on. A grade ceiling reached by accident is the most expensive thing on this page, and it costs nothing to check.

07

The UAE subjects that run alongside your child's IGCSE courses

  • Arabic, Islamic education and social studies run alongside every licensed curriculum
  • Class organisation and language of instruction are set by the regulator, not the school
  • Teachers of Arabic and Islamic education need the regulator's approval for those subjects
  • Honest support here means the school's own material, not a substitute syllabus

Every private school in the UAE teaches Arabic, Islamic education and social studies alongside its licensed international curriculum. The federal position is that private schools are not obliged to follow a specific curriculum beyond Arabic language, social studies and Islamic studies, but must adhere to the Ministry's general regulations. So an Abu Dhabi child on a Cambridge IGCSE programme is also carrying a mandatory stream that sits outside the board's specifications and is examined on the school's own terms.

Families are often surprised by how much timetable this occupies, and by the rules around it. Dubai's regulator publishes the clearest written requirements, and they give a sense of how seriously the stream is treated: separate classes for Arab and non-Arab students in Arabic as a first language, Islamic education and social studies, with combined classes prohibited because the curriculum expectations and language of instruction differ; Standard Arabic as the language of instruction for Islamic education for Arab students; and a requirement that teachers of Islamic education and Arabic hold the regulator's approval to teach those subjects. Instructional time is calculated in 40-minute lesson units.

Two things follow for a tutoring plan. The mandatory stream is where a child's weekly study time quietly goes, so a plan that assumes an empty Thursday evening is often wrong. And the content itself is constrained: for these subjects the use of different or additional material without prior permission from the Ministry is not permitted, which means honest tutoring here is support with the school's own material and with language skills rather than an alternative syllabus. For Arabic as an additional language in particular, steady short practice outperforms exam-season intensity, because the gains are vocabulary and confidence rather than technique.

08

What one session can fix, and what it cannot

  • One session: a procedure, a convention, a paper structure, a single calculation habit
  • A block of four to eight: fluency, command-word discipline, a missed topic
  • Not tuition at all: tier ceilings, entry deadlines, independent work between lessons
  • Measure progress in error rate on repeated question types, not in confidence

It is worth being specific about the unit of work, because families buy tuition in hours and think in terms. Some problems genuinely resolve in a single session. A graph-plotting convention, a trace-table method, the structure of a directed-writing answer, the first line of a moles calculation: these are procedures, and a procedure can be taught, practised and checked inside sixty minutes. If a marked paper shows marks lost to one procedure, a single session is the right purchase and a term of weekly tuition is not.

Other problems take a block. Rebuilding algebraic fluency, learning to read a six-mark explain question properly across a whole subject, or recovering a topic that was taught during a term the child missed: each of these needs repetition over weeks, because the work is habit formation rather than instruction. Four to eight sessions is the honest estimate, and the thing to watch is whether the error rate on repeated question types is falling, not whether the child feels more confident.

A third category cannot be fixed by tuition at all, and saying so is more useful than selling against it. A tier ceiling is an entry decision. A missed entry deadline is an administrative fact. A child who is not doing any independent work between sessions will not progress however good the tutor is, because the lesson is where errors are diagnosed and the week is where they are corrected. And no tutor can promise a grade: the papers are marked by the board against boundaries set after the series. What a tutor can do is show you, from marked evidence, how many marks separate where the child is from where they want to be, and what kind of work closes that specific gap.

09

Coursework, drafts and the line a tutor does not cross

  • A tutor teaches, questions and gives feedback on the student's own draft
  • Nobody here will produce assessed work for a candidate, in any subject
  • Specifications, past papers and mark schemes are read on the board's own site
  • An offer of unreleased material is a reason to walk away, not a bonus

Several IGCSE subjects still carry internally assessed components, and in those subjects the honesty rules matter more than anywhere else on this page. The principle is simple and the boards are unambiguous about it: assessed work must be the candidate's own. A teacher or tutor may teach the skills, explain the criteria, discuss a plan and give feedback on what the student has produced. Supplying text, rewriting a paragraph into shape, or correcting a draft to the point where the sentences are no longer the student's is malpractice, and the consequences fall on the candidate.

This is not a theoretical risk in this market. One of the pages competing for searches like this one openly sells completed Internal Assessments. A family who buys that is buying a malpractice investigation with a qualification attached. Our position, stated plainly because the distinction is the one worth paying for: a tutor here teaches, questions, marks against criteria and gives written feedback on the student's own draft, and nobody will produce assessed work on a student's behalf.

There is a related rule about materials. Boards hold copyright in their specifications, past papers, mark schemes and grade-boundary tables, and those documents are published on the boards' own sites for anyone to read. A tutor should point you to the official page rather than hand over a folder of copied files, and a tutor who offers unreleased material should end the conversation. The useful version of document access is knowing which document answers which question: the specification for what is examined, the mark scheme for how marks are awarded, the examiner report for what went wrong last time.

Where we tutor

What proximity means in each Abu Dhabi community

These notes are about time rather than geography. Abu Dhabi's school population is spread across the island, the Khalifa City and Al Raha corridor, and the newer mainland communities, and the gap between them is what makes a near-me search misleading. What follows is the practical reality of session timing in each.

Khalifa City

Several large campuses sit within a few kilometres, so the school run here clears late. A 4pm start is rarely kept; 5.30pm and 7pm are the slots families actually hold onto. Demand concentrates on maths and the three separate sciences in Year 11.

Al Reef

Far enough from the island that a visiting tutor is pricing eighty minutes of driving into a sixty-minute lesson. Families here are the clearest case for online delivery, because the saving is not a discount: it is travel that never happens.

Saadiyat Island

A short hop from the island but a single access route, which makes evening timing unpredictable in term time. Subject demand skews towards the harder tier and towards Additional Mathematics, where local tutor supply is thin and a specialist match matters more than a short drive.

Al Reem Island

Dense, vertical and well served by schools, so parents here often assume proximity is solved. It is, for general tuition. It is not for a specific code: a 0606 or 0478 specialist is a different search from a maths tutor in the same tower.

Al Raha Gardens and Al Raha Beach

Villa communities with a predictable school run and reliable home study space, which makes a fixed weekly slot easy to keep. Families here most often ask for Extended science support and for help with the move from IGCSE into a Diploma or A Level course.

Al Bateen and Al Mushrif

Established island neighbourhoods near some of the emirate's longest-running British-curriculum schools. Tuition centres are closest here, which makes this the one part of Abu Dhabi where a near-me search returns something genuinely near. The question becomes whether the centre teaches your child's specification.

Mohammed Bin Zayed City and Mussafah

A large schooling population with a wide spread of boards, and heavy evening traffic on the approach roads. Group classes are common here and cheap; one-to-one supply for Extended science is the gap, and online matching removes the drive from both sides of the lesson.

Al Shamkha and Shakhbout City

Newer mainland communities where school provision has grown faster than tutor supply. A visiting tutor from the island is a genuinely long trip, so published in-home rates for this area carry the most travel inside them. Evening sessions from 6.30pm onwards are the realistic window.

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi island: Al Mushrif, Al Bateen and the Corniche

The island holds the emirate's longest-established British-curriculum schools, several running IGCSE into A Level. Their inspection outcomes are published by ADEK and are the fastest free read on where a school is strong and where a family is likely to need outside help. Students we support attend schools across this cluster.

  • The British School Al Khubairat
  • Brighton College Abu Dhabi
  • Abu Dhabi International School
  • Abu Dhabi Grammar School
  • Al Bateen Academy
  • Merryland International School

Saadiyat, Al Reem and Yas

The island-adjacent developments where most of the emirate's newer international schools opened. Cohorts here tend to be mobile, which means transfers mid-IGCSE are common and a child may arrive having studied a different specification for the same subject. Checking the code on arrival avoids a term of mismatched preparation.

  • Repton School Abu Dhabi
  • The British International School Abu Dhabi
  • GEMS American Academy Abu Dhabi
  • West Yas Academy

Khalifa City, Al Raha and the mainland corridor

Much of the emirate's British-curriculum IGCSE cohort sits in this corridor, which makes subject demand here predictable: maths, separate sciences and English First Language in Year 11. Demand peaks in the eight weeks before a June series, when local tutor availability is at its thinnest.

Schools are named here only as context for the Abu Dhabi IGCSE market; IB Gram is an independent tutor-matching platform with no affiliation with, or endorsement from, any school, group or examination board named on this page.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the code, not the subject name

Tell us the four-digit syllabus code from the statement of entry, the tier if it has been set, and the series your child is entered for. That one line removes most of the guesswork, because it fixes the board, the paper structure and the grade scale before anybody has taught a lesson or quoted a rate.

  2. 02

A free trial lesson, one per family

Thirty minutes with the matched tutor at no charge and with no card details taken, limited to one trial per family. The purpose is not a sales call. It is to watch whether your child will talk to this particular adult about a question they got wrong. If they will not, we match again rather than argue that they will settle in.

  3. 03

    Diagnose from a marked script

The first full session works from a mock or past paper the school has already marked, with the mark scheme alongside. Marks lost to unknown content, to a misread command term and to running out of time are three separate problems with three separate fixes, and only the script shows which one your child actually has.

  4. 04

Scope the work to a component

Once the script has been read, the plan is scoped to something nameable: Paper 6 observation language, the summary task, trace tables, moles. Named scope makes progress checkable and keeps the hours honest, because a component either stops losing marks or it does not.

  5. 05

    Review against the live timetable

Every few weeks the plan is checked against the official timetable for the entered series and against the school's own internal deadlines. If a component has stabilised, the hours move to one that has not. A good plan shrinks as the year goes on rather than growing to fill the term.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Matched on specification, not on driving distance

Online delivery means the filter is which tutor knows Cambridge 0606 or Pearson 4CH1, rather than who can reach Al Reef by six. In an emirate this spread out that is the difference between the right tutor and the available one, which is the whole argument for the format rather than a consolation for it.

Diagnosis from marked evidence

Work starts from a script the school has already marked, with the published mark scheme beside it. That turns a report comment about needing more detail into a countable number of marks lost in a named component, which is the only version of the problem a tutor can actually act on.

Rates quoted as the market's, with sources named

Every AED figure on this page is attributed to who published it. Three of the six pages ranking for searches like this publish no price at all and two quote in US dollars, a currency no Abu Dhabi family transacts in. A parent comparing quotes needs a reference band more than another promise.

The coursework line is stated, not implied

A tutor teaches, reviews and gives feedback on the student's own work, and nobody here will produce assessed work on a candidate's behalf. Competing pages in this search sell finished Internal Assessments. That difference is worth saying out loud, because the malpractice consequence lands on the student.

No office, no claimed approval, no invented numbers

IB Gram is an independent tutor-matching platform. It holds no approval from ADEK, the Ministry of Education, Cambridge or Pearson, runs no premises in the UAE, and publishes no satisfaction figure or star rating it cannot evidence. What it can offer is a free trial lesson and a tutor who has read the specification.

Scheduling built around the Abu Dhabi evening

Sessions are set in Gulf Standard Time around the school run, and the slot that was booked is the slot that starts. Families in Al Shamkha, Al Reef and Mohammed Bin Zayed City lose the most to traffic, and removing the drive from both ends of the lesson is what makes a 6.30pm start reliable in an exam term.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Abu Dhabi: your questions answered

Does it matter where my child's IGCSE tutor is based if the lessons are online?+

It matters for timezone and for curriculum familiarity, not for distance. A tutor teaching into Abu Dhabi needs to work in Gulf Standard Time so a 6.30pm session is actually convenient, and needs to know the specification your child is entered for rather than a national curriculum that resembles it. Beyond that, the physical location stops being a useful filter. What replaces it is a harder and better question: has this tutor taught Cambridge 0606 or Pearson 4CH1 to candidates who sat the papers, and can they say what each paper rewards? That question eliminates more unsuitable tutors than any radius ever will.

Where on the school paperwork does the IGCSE syllabus code actually appear?+

The school issues a statement of entry before each series, and the four-digit code sits next to each subject on it. If the series is still months away, email the subject lead and ask for the code, the tier and whether the science practical route is the practical test or the alternative to practical. Schools answer that readily when the question is specific. It is worth doing early, because the code decides the grade scale, the number of papers and what preparation is useful. Two children in the same class can be on different codes if they joined from different systems.

Is there an IGCSE tuition centre near Khalifa City, and would a centre beat online lessons?+

Centres cluster on the island and around the Khalifa City and Al Raha corridor, so a family in Khalifa City has genuinely nearby options. Whether a centre is better depends on what you need. A centre teaches groups to a timetable, which suits a child who is broadly on track and needs structure, and group rates are lower. It suits a child with a specific component problem far less, because the group follows one specification at one pace. Ask which code the group is taught to before booking; a room containing both Cambridge and Pearson candidates is teaching one of them the wrong paper structure.

My child sits Cambridge Paper 6 rather than Paper 5 in science. What changes?+

Almost everything about the preparation. Paper 5 is a timed practical where the candidate handles apparatus, records real readings and processes them, so the practice is in recording conventions, table layout, units and significant figures. Paper 6 is the alternative to practical: no apparatus, written reasoning about experiments the candidate has not performed. It rewards precise observation language, correctly identifying variables and justifying conclusions from supplied data. Preparing for one does little for the other. Schools decide which route a cohort sits, so confirm it before a single revision session is planned around the wrong paper.

What is the practical difference between the 0580 and 0980 maths grading scales?+

The content is the same; the scale is not. Cambridge 0580 is graded A* to G and 0980 is graded 9 to 1. The 9 to 1 scale separates the top of the range into 9, 8 and 7, where A* was a single grade, so a sixth-form requirement of a grade 7 is not equivalent to a requirement of an A. For planning, the narrower bands on 9 to 1 mean a small number of marks can move a grade in either direction. Check which code appears on the statement of entry before comparing your child's grade with a classmate's.

Can a tutor move my child from Core to Extended partway through Year 11?+

A tutor cannot change the entry; the school makes that decision and the board's entry deadline closes it. What a tutor can do is cover the content the Extended papers contain and the Core papers do not, which is a term of work rather than a revision block. Whether that is worth starting depends on how far away the entry deadline is and what the child's current marks look like. Raise it with the subject lead in writing, ask what evidence would support the change, and be realistic: a tier move decided late in Year 11 is usually not available.

How many sessions does it take to repair one weak IGCSE component?+

If the problem is a procedure, often one session plus a week of practice: graph conventions, a trace-table method, the first line of a moles calculation, the planning routine for a directed-writing task. If the problem is a habit across a whole subject, such as reading command terms properly or writing method before answers, plan four to eight sessions, because habit change needs repetition. The measurable sign that it is working is a falling error rate on repeated question types, not a child reporting more confidence. Ask for the marked evidence at the four-session mark.

Do private tutors in Abu Dhabi need a permit before teaching my child?+

Yes. Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 on private tuition work permits. The permit is granted free of charge for two years, and eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed individuals, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Anyone offering private tutoring without a permit is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. Because the permit costs nothing, a tutor who cannot show you one has no cost excuse for not holding it.

Who inspects Abu Dhabi private schools, and what does an inspection outcome tell me?+

In Abu Dhabi and Al Ain it is ADEK, the Department of Education and Knowledge, which supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in the emirate. Dubai has KHDA, Sharjah has the Sharjah Private Education Authority, Ras Al Khaimah has its Department of Knowledge, and the Ministry of Education supervises private schools in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. An inspection outcome describes the school's provision, not your child's performance. Read it for where teaching is reported as weaker, because that is where outside help tends to be needed, then check the finding against your child's own marked work.

Does my child still have to study Arabic and Islamic education alongside IGCSE subjects?+

Yes. UAE private schools are required to teach Arabic language, social studies and Islamic studies alongside whatever international curriculum they are licensed for, and they must follow the Ministry's general regulations on this. The stream is organised tightly: Dubai's regulator, for instance, requires separate classes for Arab and non-Arab students in Arabic first language, Islamic education and social studies, and sets the language of instruction for each. It also means your child's week has less free study time than a subject timetable suggests, which is worth factoring into any tutoring plan before you book a second weekly slot.

How late in Year 11 is it still worth starting IGCSE tuition?+

Later than most families assume, provided the work is scoped tightly. Six weeks before a series there is no time to learn a subject, but there is time to stop a specific leak: finishing papers, writing method lines, handling one recurring question type, or rehearsing the alternative-to-practical observation language. That work can be worth several marks a paper, and on a 9 to 1 scale several marks can cross a boundary. What is not realistic that late is broad coverage or a tier change. Bring the most recent marked mock and expect the honest answer to be a short block, not a term.

Can one tutor cover both maths and physics for the same child?+

Often yes at Core or lower Extended level, where the physics content leans on maths a specialist mathematician handles comfortably. At the top of Extended it is usually better to split, because the mark-winning detail in physics is practical and specification-specific: which practical paper is sat, how observations must be phrased, how graphs are expected to be drawn. Two subjects also means two sets of marked scripts to read. If budget pushes you towards one tutor, put the specialist on the subject with the weaker marks and use school support for the other.

What should we bring to the first IGCSE session for it to be useful?+

Three documents. The statement of entry or an email from the subject lead giving the syllabus code, the tier and the practical route. The most recent marked mock or past paper, ideally with the mark scheme the school used. And the school's internal deadline list for any coursework component. With those, the first session diagnoses rather than interviews, and you get a written note at the end naming the component that is losing marks. Without them, the first hour goes on finding out what should have been established before anybody was booked.

How does the UAE Ministry of Education count IGCSE subjects for equivalency?+

For the British track, the published requirement is five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at no less than grade E or grade 3, plus either one accredited subject at Advanced Level at grade E or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five required subjects. That rule matters before a subject is dropped in Year 10. Equivalency is a Ministry process, not something a tutoring platform performs or can speed up, so verify the current requirement on the Ministry's own channel before acting on any summary, including this one.

Can my child sit IGCSE exams in Abu Dhabi as a private candidate?+

Private candidate entries are made through a registered examination centre rather than directly with the board, and centres set their own deadlines ahead of the board's. Fees, available subjects and whether practical components can be accommodated all vary by centre, and some will not accept entries for subjects with internally assessed work. If this is the route you need, start by asking the centre two questions: which specifications they accept private entries for, and what their internal deadline is relative to the board's. Then build any tutoring plan backwards from the centre's date, not the exam date.

Will online lessons work if my child needs someone sitting beside them?+

For most students, yes, with one condition: the lesson has to be worked rather than watched. A session where the tutor talks and the student listens fails online faster than it fails in a room. A session where the student's working is visible on camera as it is written, the tutor annotates a shared paper and the student does the next question live is at least as effective, and it produces a record both of you can look back at. Take the free trial and watch for one thing: does your child pick up a pen in the first ten minutes?

Start with the code and a marked paper, not a map

The most useful half hour you can spend this week costs nothing. Find your child's statement of entry and note the syllabus code, the tier and the practical route; then dig out the most recent marked mock and read where the marks actually went. Those two documents turn a search for IGCSE tuition near me in Abu Dhabi into a specific question a subject specialist can answer in one session. Then take the free trial lesson, one per family and no card details taken, and watch how the tutor handles that paper. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, anywhere in the emirate, and the rate is agreed after you have seen the teaching rather than before.
