IGCSE Home Tutor near me in Abu Dhabi

Typing IGCSE home tutor near me in Abu Dhabi is a search for two things at once: someone close enough to be convenient, and someone good enough to move a grade. Those two rarely come in the same person, because the pool within a twenty-minute drive of Al Reef or Al Shamkha is small and the pool who have taught your child's exact syllabus code is not. This page is about the second one, and about the marked-paper evidence that tells you whether it is working.

  • Every session ends on a timed question marked against the published mark scheme
  • You receive the marked script, the mark and the reason it was lost
  • A six-week evidence review decides whether the plan continues or changes
  • A free trial lesson first, with no card details taken beforehand

IB & IGCSE in Abu Dhabi

What the words "near me" are actually asking for

A parent in Abu Dhabi typing that phrase is almost never asking about distance for its own sake. They are asking three questions in one breath: can someone reliable start soon, will they understand my child's school and syllabus, and will I be able to tell whether it is doing any good. Distance is a proxy for the first and has nothing to do with the second or third. The search engine answers the proxy. This page answers the questions underneath it.

Start with the geography, because in this emirate it is not a detail. Abu Dhabi spreads across the island, the Khalifa City and Al Raha corridor, Saadiyat and Yas, and the newer mainland communities out past Al Shamkha and Al Falah. A family in Al Reef looking for a Pearson Edexcel 4CH1 Chemistry specialist within a short drive is searching a pool of a handful of people, most of whom teach something else. The same family searching without the distance filter is choosing from everyone who has taught that exact code to Year 11 students.

So the honest answer to the search is this: IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE. Home visits are a service offered only in India. Lessons for Abu Dhabi families are one-to-one over live video, in your child's own room, at a time set by your school run rather than by a tutor's route across the emirate. The reason that is a better deal rather than a lesser one is the pool, and the proof is in what the sessions produce.

Which brings this page to its real subject. The thing almost nobody discusses when they advertise tutoring is how a parent is supposed to know it is working. Children say the tutor is nice. Tutors say the child is engaging well. Three months pass and a mock result arrives that nobody saw coming. The fix is not more communication, it is evidence produced on purpose: the student's own answers, marked against the published mark scheme, with the mark and the reason recorded so the pattern of lost marks can be watched over six weeks.

That evidence is also the only honest basis for continuing. If the pattern of lost marks has not shifted in six sessions, the plan should change or stop, and a provider who cannot show you the pattern cannot tell you which. Nobody on this page promises a grade, and any tutor who does is describing something no teacher controls: grade boundaries move between series, and a student's performance on the day is theirs. What can be promised is that you will be able to see what changed, in your child's own handwriting, against the board's own marking criteria, week by week.

At a glance

  • Lessons are one-to-one and online; IB Gram does not visit homes anywhere in the UAE
  • Every session closes on a timed question marked against the published mark scheme
  • You get the marked script, not a summary of how the session felt
  • A formal review at six sessions: continue, change the plan, or stop
  • Tutors mark and give feedback on the student's own work; they never write it
  • Session times are set around the Abu Dhabi school run, not around a tutor's drive

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

The qualification on the certificate changes what the evidence should look like, because each one is marked differently. These are the four routes Abu Dhabi families are tracking, and what counts as proof of progress in each.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge International GCSE

Terminal written papers against four-digit syllabus codes: 0580 Mathematics, 0625 Physics, 0620 Chemistry, 0610 Biology, 0500 English First Language, 0455 Economics. Several syllabuses are tiered, with Core and Extended papers leading to different grade ceilings. Evidence of progress here is concrete: a marked past-paper question, the mark awarded, and the specific mark-scheme point that was missed.

Cambridge is the widest provision across Abu Dhabi's British curriculum schools, so most families in the emirate are tracking a Cambridge code. The first thing to confirm before gathering any evidence is which tier the school has entered the student for, because a Core candidate marked against Extended papers will look much worse than they are, and that mistake is common in the first fortnight of tutoring.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE

Codes include 4MA1 Mathematics A, 4PH1 Physics, 4CH1 Chemistry, 4BI1 Biology, 4EA1 English Language A. Exams run in May/June and November each year. The November 2026 final timetable runs from late October to 19 November 2026; June 2026 results reached students on 20 August 2026 and November 2025 results on 22 January 2026.

Edexcel specialists per subject are a thinner pool inside Abu Dhabi than Cambridge specialists, which is exactly where a proximity search fails a family. The code matters more than the subject name for evidence purposes: a 4CH1 mark scheme rewards different phrasing from a 0620 one, so marked work has to be marked against the right document to mean anything.

DPAges 16-19 · DP1 and DP2

IB Diploma Programme

Six subjects, three Higher Level and three Standard Level, plus the Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge and CAS, each subject carrying an internally assessed component. Evidence looks different here: alongside marked exam questions sit internal assessment drafts, where the only legitimate tutor contribution is feedback on work the student has already written.

Abu Dhabi schools sit the May session. IB exam and results dates are the one set of figures not published on these pages, because the IB's own site blocks automated checking and nothing in this project has been confirmed from the board itself. For any specific date, ask your school's IB coordinator or read it on ibo.org rather than taking it from a tutoring site.

AS/AAges 16-18 · Years 12-13

International AS and A Level

The post-IGCSE route in most British curriculum schools in the emirate. Evidence at this level is almost entirely about extended answers and multi-step problems, so the useful artefact is a marked long-answer question with the method marks separated from the accuracy marks, which is where most of the loss sits.

This is also the qualification Ministry of Education equivalency asks for on the British track, alongside the IGCSE count. The published requirement is five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than E or grade 3, excluding Arabic and Islamic Education, plus one A-Level at no less than E or two AS-Levels at the same grade. Verify the current wording through the Ministry's own channel; equivalency is a process the authorities run.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Marks go missing in patterns, and the pattern is subject-specific. These are the subjects Abu Dhabi families book most, with the lost-mark pattern a first marked paper usually reveals in each.

Mathematics (0580, 4MA1)

Core and Extended · Foundation and Higher

Method marks lost to unshown working, and accuracy marks lost to premature rounding. A marked script separates the two, which matters because they need different fixes: one is a habit, the other is a technique. Tier confirmation comes first, since Core papers cap the grade available.

Physics (0625, 4PH1)

Core and Extended

Units, significant figures and the maths of graphs. The characteristic loss is a correct physical idea written without the quantity it applies to. Electricity questions and the practical or alternative-to-practical component are where a marked script usually shows the clearest, most repairable pattern.

Chemistry (0620, 4CH1)

Core and Extended

Moles calculations and organic mechanisms account for most of the loss, along with state symbols and balancing in equations. These are high-density marks: a student who fixes equation presentation alone often picks up several marks across a paper, which shows up quickly in six weeks of evidence.

Biology (0610, 4BI1)

Core and Extended

Command-word failure dominates. A student who describes a graph when asked to explain it has lost the marks before content was ever in question. Marked scripts in biology are the clearest demonstration of why technique work outperforms content revision for many students.

English First and Second Language (0500, 0510, 4EA1)

IGCSE

Directed writing against the task's audience and purpose, and analysis that quotes without explaining. The evidence here is a marked response with the band descriptors attached, so a parent can see which band the writing sits in and what the next band requires in concrete terms.

English Literature (0475, 4ET1)

IGCSE

Essays that narrate the text rather than argue about it. Progress is visible through successive marked essays on the same set text, where the shift from retelling to argument is measurable in the examiner's own language rather than in a tutor's impression.

Economics and Business (0455, 0450, 4EC1)

IGCSE

Evaluation marks left on the table and diagrams drawn without labels or shifts. Evaluation is a transferable technique, so a marked paper that shows no evaluation attempted is a cheap and fast repair compared with missing content.

History and Geography (0470, 0460)

IGCSE

Source utility answers that summarise rather than judge, and case-study detail left generic. The marked script shows this instantly: paragraphs with no named example score below paragraphs with one, regardless of how well written they are.

Coordinated and Combined Sciences (0654, 0653)

Double and single award

Three strands compressed, so the lost-mark pattern often differs by strand within the same paper. A marked script broken down by strand tells you which of the three actually needs the hours, which is usually a surprise to the family.

Additional and International Mathematics (0606, 0607)

IGCSE

A scarce tutor pool locally, which is precisely where proximity searching fails. 0607 carries a different structure and a graphic display calculator expectation, and marked evidence should show calculator-method marks separately from analytic ones.

Computer Science and ICT (0478, 0417)

IGCSE

Pseudocode notation and trace tables, where the mark scheme is specific about form. A student who codes well can still lose heavily on notation, and a marked script is the only way a parent would ever discover that distinction exists.

Arabic (0508, 0544)

First Language and Foreign Language

Taught alongside the licensed curriculum in every UAE private school. Marked evidence focuses on script accuracy and the structure of extended written responses. Arabic and Islamic Education are excluded from the five subjects counted for British-track Ministry equivalency.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Evidence needs a schedule to sit on. These are the three arrangements that generate a readable record of progress, and what each one produces.

Weekly one-to-one with a marked question every week

One subject, one tutor, one fixed slot. Teaching occupies the first part of the session; the last fifteen minutes are a timed past-paper question done without help. The tutor marks it against the published mark scheme and you receive the script, the mark and the specific mark-scheme point that was missed. Over six weeks those six scripts are the record.

  • Same tutor and slot each week in Gulf Standard Time
  • A timed, unaided question at the end of every session
  • Marked against the published mark scheme, not against a tutor's opinion
  • Six scripts by week six, reviewed together rather than one at a time

Fortnightly marking clinic on the student's own work

For a student who is coping but drifting, or who already has plenty of school work to draw on. Every two weeks the session is spent marking what the student has actually produced, naming the recurring error and setting one correction task. The cheapest way to keep a second or third subject under observation without paying for weekly teaching.

  • Driven entirely by the student's own school work and mocks
  • One recurring error named per session, not a list of twelve
  • Scales up to weekly after mock results if the record says so
  • Lowest total spend of the three arrangements

Pre-series technique block, scoped from the mock

Six to ten sessions aimed only at the lost-mark pattern the mock exposed, with the topic list written down before the first session. Each session is a full question under timed conditions, marked, then taught, then a second attempt. The evidence is a before-and-after on the same question type rather than a general sense of improvement.

  • Scoped from the marked mock paper, not from the syllabus
  • Attempt, mark, teach, re-attempt, in that order
  • Known number of sessions agreed before starting
  • Right choice when content is known and marks still go missing

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Abu Dhabi

01

Why searching by distance returns the wrong tutor in this emirate

A proximity search optimises for the one variable that has no effect on a grade. What decides whether a Year 11 student picks up marks is whether the tutor knows the specific paper: the syllabus code, the mark scheme's preferred phrasing, the tier the student is entered for, and the question types that recur. None of that correlates with how far away someone lives, and in a city shaped like Abu Dhabi the distance filter removes most of the qualified pool before you have looked at anyone.

Work through the arithmetic for one family. A student in Al Shamkha takes Pearson Edexcel 4CH1 Chemistry and needs help with moles calculations and organic mechanisms. The set of people who teach 4CH1 well is reasonably large. The set within a twenty-five-minute drive of Al Shamkha at 5pm on a weekday is very small, and most of them teach Cambridge 0620 instead, which is a different paper structure with a different mark scheme. The distance filter has just traded the thing that matters for the thing that is convenient.

There is a second cost that families notice later. An in-home arrangement is fragile in ways an online one is not. The tutor's car, the tutor's other commitments, the traffic on the airport road, a slot that can only exist because it fits a geographic route. When that breaks, the replacement is drawn from the same tiny local pool. An online arrangement that breaks is replaced from the whole pool, usually within the same week.

So the position taken here is explicit rather than buried. IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE, and no tutor will arrive at an Abu Dhabi address; home tutoring at a family's address exists only in the India service. What replaces it is a one-to-one lesson over live video at a time your school run allows, with a tutor chosen for the syllabus code on your child's entry. The table sets out what each of the three things a parent wants from "near me" actually requires.

The evidence file: what you should be holding after six weeks

This is the part of tutoring almost nobody specifies, and it is the only part that lets a parent make a decision. After six weekly sessions you should be holding six marked scripts, each one a timed past-paper question the student attempted without help, each marked against the published mark scheme, each annotated with the mark awarded and the mark-scheme point that was missed. Together they are a record, and a record can be read.

What you are reading for is not the mark going up every week, because question difficulty varies and a harder question can produce a lower mark from a stronger student. You are reading for the pattern of loss changing. In week one a Chemistry student loses four marks to unbalanced equations and two to rounding. By week six, if the equation marks are still going, the teaching has not landed and the plan needs changing. If they have stopped and the loss has moved to a harder topic, that is progress even if the raw mark is flat.

Three further artefacts belong in the file. The lost-mark tally, which is just a running count by category: command word, working, units, content, presentation. The marks-to-boundary figure from the school's own mock, which is the only grade-shaped number in the file and should be treated as an estimate because boundaries move between series. And a one-line note after each session saying what was taught and what to do before next week, so the weeks between sessions are not blank.

The discipline that makes this work is comparability. Same subject, same mark scheme, same conditions, same marker. A file of six scripts marked six different ways tells you nothing. At the six-session point the whole file gets reviewed in one sitting with you, and there are only three honest outcomes: the pattern has shifted and the plan continues, it has not shifted and the plan changes, or it has not shifted twice and tutoring in this subject should stop.

03

How a mark scheme marks, and why your child's answer scored what it did

  • Underline the command word before writing anything; it defines what is being marked
  • Formula, substitution, evaluation: method marks are awarded for the steps
  • Units, significant figures and state symbols are marks, not tidiness
  • A named example scores above a well-written generalisation in source subjects
  • Rounding mid-calculation loses accuracy marks the method marks already earned

Parents often assume marks are lost through not knowing things. Marked scripts say otherwise. A large share of lost IGCSE marks come from answering a question that was not asked, from not showing the step that earns the method mark, from omitting a unit, or from writing a correct idea in a form the mark scheme does not credit. Those are all repairable in weeks, and none of them require learning new content.

Command words are the first and biggest category. Describe, explain, compare, evaluate, justify, state, suggest and calculate ask for different things, and the mark scheme allocates against what was asked. A biology student who describes a graph beautifully when the question said explain has not written a weak answer; they have written an answer to a different question. Fixing that is a matter of a few weeks of forced practice, with the command word underlined before anything is written.

Method and accuracy marks are the second. In maths and physics, marks are awarded for the steps, not only the final number, which means a student who writes only an answer forfeits the method marks even when the answer is right, and gains nothing when it is wrong. The habit fix is mechanical: write the formula, substitute, then evaluate, every time. A marked script makes the cost of skipping that visible in a way no amount of being told does.

The third category is presentation, and it is the cheapest of all. State symbols in a chemistry equation. Axes labelled with units. Significant figures carried to the end rather than rounded in the middle. A labelled shift on an economics diagram. A named example in a geography paragraph. Each is worth a mark or two, and across a full paper they often add up to more than a whole topic would. A student who fixes presentation in three weeks will see movement in the evidence file before any content work has begun.

04

Grade movement, described honestly

No tutor can promise a grade and nobody on this page will. Two things stand in the way, and both are outside anyone's control. Grade boundaries are set per series after the papers have been sat, so the mark needed for a 7 this summer is not necessarily the mark needed last summer. And performance on the day belongs to the student, who may be ill, nervous or unlucky with the question selection.

What can be described is distance. Ask the school for the student's mock mark and, where they will share it, the boundary the school used. The difference is the marks-to-boundary figure, and it changes the conversation from a vague hope into an arithmetic problem. Four marks short is a short technique block. Twenty-five marks short in the same subject is a different project, and pretending otherwise is how families end up disappointed by work that was always going to be insufficient.

Ranking subjects by that figure is the most useful thing a parent can do with an afternoon. Most families find one subject sitting a handful of marks below a boundary and one sitting far below. The first is cheap, fast and high-return. The second needs a longer plan or a decision to accept the grade and protect the others. Spending the available hours on the near-boundary subjects first moves more grades for the same money, and the evidence file is what tells you when a subject has moved far enough to stop.

Treat boundary figures as estimates throughout, and take them from the school or from a board's own published materials rather than from a tutoring page. This page publishes no boundary tables, no past papers and no mark schemes, because those documents belong to the boards and reproducing them is not ours to do. Your child's school has them, the boards publish them, and a tutor should be working from the official versions rather than from a copy.

05

The Abu Dhabi afternoon, and the time a session can realistically start

Session timing is the most underrated variable in whether tutoring works, and in Abu Dhabi it is almost entirely a function of where you live. A student who boards a bus at 6:40am and gets home at 3:30pm has a different afternoon from one picked up at 2:45pm ten minutes from school. The first will produce poor evidence at 4pm and good evidence at 5:30pm. The second is the reverse, because by 5:30pm the day is over.

The table below is the planning tool. It is drawn from what Abu Dhabi families actually report about their own routines rather than from traffic data, so treat it as a starting point for your household rather than a measurement. Its purpose is narrow: to pick the slot at which your child can do a timed, unaided question and have the result mean something. A marked script produced at the wrong hour is evidence of tiredness, not of ability.

The weekend is the other half of the answer and is routinely wasted. A full past paper under timed conditions takes an hour and a half to two hours, which does not fit a weekday evening after school, and compressing it ruins the evidence. Saturday morning is where that belongs, with the marking session following midweek. Families who split the work this way get a far more useful record than those who try to do everything in a weekday hour.

Because lessons are delivered over live video, the slot is set by the student's day rather than by a tutor's route. There is no arrival time, no parking, no travel buffer either side, and no minimum booking length imposed to make a journey worthwhile. For families in Al Reef, Al Shamkha and the outer parts of Khalifa City, that is the practical difference between a session at a sensible hour and a session squeezed into whenever a tutor could get there.

Working from the school's own assessments rather than around them

A tutor who ignores the school's assessment calendar generates a second, parallel version of the course, and the student ends up serving two masters. The better arrangement treats the school as the primary source of data. Its mocks, its unit tests, its predicted grades and its marked feedback are the richest evidence a family already has, and most of it goes unread beyond the number on the front.

Three things are worth asking the school for, and all three are usually given freely. The mark breakdown by question or by topic, rather than the total. The boundary the school applied when converting that mark to a grade, flagged as an estimate. And which assessment objectives the department thinks the student is weakest against. With those, a tutor can scope a block in one session instead of spending three sessions discovering what the school already knew.

Abu Dhabi's private schools are overseen by ADEK, the Department of Education and Knowledge, which supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in the emirate and publishes inspection outcomes. Those reports are a useful read for a parent trying to understand the context their child is working in, particularly where a report comments specifically on assessment and feedback practice. ADEK is named here because it is useful to know what it governs; it does not inspect, license or endorse IB Gram, which holds no permit, centre or office in the emirate.

One boundary is worth stating here as well. Press reporting on Abu Dhabi's professional-ethics rules describes a prohibition on school staff providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and notes that teachers tutoring outside school hours must hold the MoHRE private tuition work permit, whose code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with their own school. That is secondary reporting, so verify it against ADEK's current published policy. The underlying principle is sound: the person marking your child's school work should not also be paid to prepare them for it.

07

Ramadan, the UAE calendar and when revision actually happens

  • Autumn hours are cheaper to schedule and more productive than spring hours
  • During Ramadan, change the slot rather than the plan; later evening slots are common
  • Mocks and coursework deadlines compete for the same February to April window
  • Online scheduling moves with a travelling family, so the evidence file stays continuous

The UAE academic year has a shape that exam preparation has to be planned around, and it is a shape nobody writing about tutoring seems to mention. The spring term carries the heaviest load for a Year 11 student: mocks, coursework deadlines, and then the run-up to a May or June series. Ramadan falls within that window, school hours shorten, and the rhythm of a household changes for a month.

What that means in practice is that the hours available between February and April are fewer than the calendar suggests, and the hours available in October and November are more than families use. A twenty-hour block bought in the autumn sits on a student with capacity. The same twenty hours bought in March compete with mocks, with coursework and with fasting, and each hour achieves less. The cheapest intervention available to an Abu Dhabi family is simply doing the work earlier.

During Ramadan the sensible adjustment is to session timing rather than session content. Families commonly move to later evening slots after Iftar, or to a shorter session earlier in the day at the weekend, and keep the same tutor and the same subject throughout. Because lessons are online, shifting a slot is a scheduling message rather than a renegotiation with someone's driving route, and the evidence file continues uninterrupted, which matters when a six-week review is in progress.

Summer deserves one line too. Abu Dhabi's long break is where a Year 10 student either consolidates or slides, and families who travel across time zones often stop entirely for ten weeks. Two short sessions a week through July and August, aimed at holding technique rather than teaching ahead, keep the record continuous and avoid a September restart from a worse position than June ended on.

08

What happens when the evidence says this is not working

Most tutoring arrangements end badly by drifting rather than by decision: the sessions continue, the invoices continue, and nobody wants to be the one who says it has stopped helping. Having a record removes that problem, because at the six-session review the file either shows a shifted pattern of lost marks or it does not, and that is a fact rather than an opinion.

There are three legitimate reasons the pattern has not moved, and each has a different response. The match is wrong, in which case the tutor changes and the plan does not. The diagnosis is wrong, usually because the problem turned out to be reading speed, or an untreated gap two years further back, in which case the plan changes and the tutor may not. Or the frequency is wrong, which happens when a student is given one hour a week against a twenty-five-mark gap and nothing between sessions.

A fourth possibility deserves saying out loud, because providers rarely do: the subject may not be where the money should go. A student twenty-five marks below a boundary in one subject and four marks below in another will get more from fixing the second. The honest recommendation is sometimes to stop paying for the subject you asked about and start on the one you did not, and a provider that cannot bring itself to say that is not reading the evidence with you.

If no UAE-based tutor covers a syllabus in the slot you need, we will say so rather than filling the slot with whoever is free. The alternative offered may be a tutor based outside the UAE teaching in your time zone, disclosed before you book. Across the competitor pages reviewed for this project, not one discloses a coverage limit, and several route UAE parents to numbers outside the country without saying where delivery happens. A stated limit is more useful to a parent than a concealed one.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across Abu Dhabi

The practical reason a proximity search disappoints in Abu Dhabi is the school run. These are the communities families book from, with what the afternoon actually looks like in each.

Al Reef

A long bus route each way, so a Year 11 student is often home after 3:30pm and flat by four. Evening slots work; an in-home tutor arriving at 4:30 after their own drive gets the worst forty minutes of the day.

Khalifa City

Large villa communities, early bus pick-ups and long returns. Families here typically take a 5pm or 5:30pm slot on weekdays and a Saturday morning for the longer past-paper session, which is when timed practice actually works.

Al Shamkha and Al Falah

Mainland communities where the local pool for a named syllabus code is genuinely thin. This is where the gap between what a proximity search returns and what a subject search returns is widest in the emirate.

Saadiyat Island

Short pick-ups and several schools close by, so a 4pm start is realistic. Even here, an Edexcel specialist in a scarce subject is usually found by syllabus code rather than by postcode.

Al Reem Island

Apartment living, so the constraint is a quiet room rather than a drive. Setting up a fixed desk with headphones in the first week removes most of the friction families later blame on the online format.

Al Raha Beach and Al Raha Gardens

A dense Year 10 and 11 population in one corridor, and the place where sibling bookings on consecutive slots are most common. Two students, one tutor, one evening, two separate marked scripts.

Yas Island

Many mid-year arrivals into Year 10 and 11, which means tutoring often starts part-way through a two-year course. The first marked paper matters more here, because there is no history to read.

Al Mushrif, Al Bateen and Al Khalidiyah

Established island neighbourhoods with the emirate's deepest local tutor market and the shortest commutes. The advantage of searching by code rather than distance narrows here, but it does not disappear for scarce subjects.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Abu Dhabi

The island: Al Bateen, Al Mushrif and Al Rawdah

Long-established schools running Cambridge and Edexcel programmes with the densest Year 10 and 11 population in the emirate. Mock papers from these schools are usually full past papers, which makes the first evidence review straightforward because real marked data already exists.

  • The British International School Abu Dhabi
  • Al Bateen Academy
  • American Community School of Abu Dhabi
  • Abu Dhabi International School
  • Al Muna Academy

Khalifa City, Al Raha and Yas Island

The mainland corridor, where commutes are longest and the realistic session start is latest. Families here are the clearest beneficiaries of removing travel from the arrangement, because the alternative is a tutor arriving when the student has nothing left.

  • Al Yasmina Academy
  • Raha International School
  • GEMS American Academy Abu Dhabi
  • West Yas Academy
  • Noya British School

Saadiyat, Al Reem and the newer communities

Newer schools serving fast-growing residential areas with changing intakes. Mid-year transfers are frequent, and for a transferring student the first marked past paper is the only reliable baseline available in the first month.

  • Cranleigh Abu Dhabi
  • Repton School Abu Dhabi
  • Brighton College Abu Dhabi
  • Mamoura British Academy

Schools are named only as context for the Abu Dhabi secondary market. IB Gram has no affiliation with, endorsement from or relationship to any school listed, and names no school as a client.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the paper, not the problem

The most useful first message contains the board and syllabus code, the tier, and a photograph of one marked school assessment. That is enough to see the lost-mark pattern before anyone has been booked, and enough to match a tutor to the actual paper rather than to the subject name.

  2. 02

A free trial lesson that produces a marked script

The trial is a real session on a real past-paper question. It ends with the question marked against the published mark scheme and a written read on whether the gap is technique or content. No card details are taken to book it, and nothing is owed if you stop there.

  3. 03

Agree what the record will contain

Before the first paid session, settle what you will receive and how often: the marked script, the lost-mark tally, the session note, and the date of the six-session review. A record nobody agreed in advance tends not to exist when it is needed.

  4. 04

A timed, unaided question every week

The last part of each session is the student working alone under exam conditions. It is the only part of the hour that produces evidence, because everything the tutor helps with proves the tutor can do it. The script, the mark and the reason reach you the same evening.

  5. 05

Read the whole file at session six

Six scripts reviewed together, not one at a time. Either the pattern of lost marks has shifted, in which case the plan continues, or it has not, in which case the tutor, the diagnosis or the frequency changes. If it has not shifted twice, we will tell you to stop.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Matched on the syllabus code, not the postcode

A tutor is chosen for having taught Cambridge 0620 or Pearson 4CH1 to Year 11 students, not for living near Al Shamkha. In an emirate this spread out, that is the difference between a specialist and whoever was willing to make the drive at 5pm.

Evidence you hold, not a report you are given

Marked scripts, the mark-scheme point missed, and a running tally by category. The alternative, a verbal account of how the sessions are going, is what every family describes having had before the mock result that surprised them.

A review date set in advance

Session six is agreed before session one. The whole file is read in one sitting and the outcome is continue, change or stop. Arrangements that drift for a term do so because nobody put a date in the calendar at the start.

No grade promises

Boundaries are set per series after the papers are sat, and the day belongs to the student. What is offered instead is a marks-to-boundary figure from the school's own mock, treated as an estimate, and a record of whether the gap is closing.

The student's own work stays their own

Tutors teach, mark and give feedback on what the student has written. They do not write, redraft to completion or produce coursework, Internal Assessments or Extended Essays. In a market where one provider sells completed Internal Assessments, that line is worth stating plainly.

Coverage limits disclosed before you book

If no UAE-based tutor covers your syllabus in the slot you need, we say so and name the alternative, which may be a tutor outside the UAE teaching in your time zone. None of the competitor pages reviewed for this project discloses a coverage limit at all.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Abu Dhabi: your questions answered

Does an IGCSE home tutor near me actually find the right tutor in Abu Dhabi?+

It finds the nearest one, which is a different thing. What moves marks is whether the tutor knows the specific paper: the syllabus code, the tier, the mark scheme's preferred phrasing and the recurring question types. None of that correlates with distance, and in an emirate spread from Saadiyat to Al Shamkha the distance filter removes most of the qualified pool before you have looked at anyone. IB Gram does not visit homes anywhere in the UAE; lessons are one-to-one over live video, with the tutor matched to the code on your child's exam entry.

What evidence should I have after six weeks of IGCSE tutoring?+

Six marked scripts, each a timed past-paper question your child attempted without help, marked against the published mark scheme with the mark and the missed mark-scheme point recorded. Alongside them, a running tally of lost marks by category, a short note after each session saying what was taught and what to do before the next one, and a marks-to-boundary estimate from the school's own mock. That file is readable: either the pattern of loss has shifted by week six or it has not, and that is a fact rather than an impression.

How do you mark my child's work and what do I get to see?+

The last part of each session is a timed question the student does alone, which the tutor then marks against the published mark scheme rather than against a personal opinion. You receive the script itself, the mark awarded, and the specific mark-scheme point that was lost, usually the same evening. Over six sessions you also receive a tally grouping losses into command word, working, units, content and presentation, because the category is what decides where the next block of hours should go.

Can you tell me what grade my child will get?+

No, and anyone who does is describing something no teacher controls. Grade boundaries are set per series after the papers have been sat, so the mark needed for a given grade this summer is not necessarily last summer's mark. Performance on the day belongs to the student. What can be described is distance: ask the school for the mock mark and the boundary it applied, treat the difference as an estimate, and track whether that gap closes. Four marks short and twenty-five marks short are different projects and should be funded differently.

Why does my child's mark go down on a harder past paper?+

Because question difficulty varies between papers and across topics, so a raw mark is not a clean measure of progress. This is exactly why the evidence file tracks the pattern of lost marks rather than the mark itself. A student who stops losing marks on unbalanced equations and starts losing them on a harder organic question has improved, even though the total may be flat or lower. If the same category of loss is still appearing in week six, that is the signal that the teaching has not landed.

How do I know the tutoring is working and not just keeping my child busy?+

Ask for the three things that make it checkable: a timed, unaided question marked against the published mark scheme every session, a tally of losses by category, and a review date set before the first session. Help given during a lesson proves only that the tutor can do the question. The unaided attempt is the evidence. If after six sessions the loss categories have not moved, the honest outcomes are a different tutor, a different diagnosis, a higher frequency, or stopping, and the file tells you which.

What time can an IGCSE session start if the school bus gets home at 3:30?+

Later than most families assume. A student arriving home after 3:30pm from Al Reef or the outer parts of Khalifa City will produce a poor timed script at 4pm and a usable one at 5:30pm. Island families with short pick-ups are the reverse and do better at 4pm. Because lessons are delivered over live video there is no arrival time or travel buffer, so the slot is set by your child's day. Full timed papers belong on a Saturday morning, with the marking review midweek.

Do you work from my child's own school assessments?+

Yes, and they are the richest evidence a family already holds. Three things are worth asking the school for and are usually given: the mark breakdown by question or topic rather than the total, the boundary the school applied when converting to a grade, and which assessment objectives the department thinks the student is weakest against. With those, a block can be scoped in one session rather than spending three sessions rediscovering what the school already knew. The school stays the primary source; the tutoring works to its calendar.

Which IGCSE subjects lose the most marks to command words?+

Biology and Geography are the clearest cases, followed by Economics and Business. Describe, explain, compare, evaluate, justify, state, suggest and calculate ask for different things, and marks are allocated against what was asked. A student who describes a graph when the question said explain has written a good answer to a different question. The repair takes a few weeks of forced practice with the command word underlined before anything is written, and it shows up in the evidence file faster than any content work does.

How does Ramadan change the IGCSE revision schedule?+

The adjustment is to timing, not to content. School hours shorten, household rhythms change for the month, and it falls inside the heaviest part of a Year 11 year alongside mocks and coursework deadlines. Families commonly move to a later evening slot after Iftar, or to a shorter weekend session earlier in the day, keeping the same tutor and subject so the evidence file stays continuous. The broader point is that hours bought in October and November are easier to schedule and more productive than the same hours bought in March.

Will my child's school know we are using a tutor?+

Only if you tell them, and telling them is usually worth it. A department that knows a student is getting extra support will often share the mark breakdown and the assessment objectives it is most concerned about, which makes the tutoring sharper and cheaper. There is no requirement to disclose private tuition to a school. What we would avoid is any arrangement where your child's own class teacher is paid to tutor them, since Abu Dhabi's professional-ethics rules as reported bar school staff from paid tutoring of students enrolled at their own school.

What does a predicted grade mean and can a tutor change it?+

A predicted or forecast grade is the school's professional estimate, based on its own evidence, and it belongs to the school. Cambridge requires a forecast grade from the centre ahead of each series, and for a June sitting that submission falls in the spring term, earlier than most families expect; the exams officer at the school can give you the deadline for your centre. A tutor cannot change a prediction and should not try to. What a tutor can do is help the student produce better evidence for the school to look at before that submission closes, which is a different and legitimate route. If you disagree with a prediction, the conversation is with the department, supported by marked work.

How many past papers should my child do before the series?+

Fewer than most families imagine, done properly. A paper attempted under timed conditions, marked against the published mark scheme, and then reworked on the questions that were lost is worth more than five papers skimmed and self-marked generously. A reasonable shape for a final term is one full timed paper a fortnight on a Saturday morning, with the midweek session spent on the losses from it. Papers and mark schemes should come from the board or the school's own copies rather than from a tutoring site.

What happens if six weeks of evidence shows no movement?+

One of four things changes, and the file usually says which. The match may be wrong, so the tutor changes and the plan does not. The diagnosis may be wrong, often because the real issue is reading speed or a gap two years earlier, so the plan changes. The frequency may be wrong, which is common when one weekly hour is set against a twenty-five-mark gap. Or the subject may be the wrong place for the money, in which case the honest recommendation is to stop this subject and fund one nearer a boundary.

Is there a tutor in my area of Abu Dhabi who teaches Edexcel Chemistry?+

Possibly, and that is the wrong question to optimise for. Pearson Edexcel 4CH1 specialists are a thinner pool per subject inside the emirate than Cambridge 0620 specialists, so an area filter often returns someone who teaches the other board's paper structure instead. Since lessons are delivered over live video, the search is by syllabus code across the whole pool rather than by postcode across a handful of people. If no UAE-based tutor covers your code in the slot you want, we will say so and name the alternative before you book.

Ask to see a marked script before you book anything

The single most useful question a parent can ask any tutoring provider in Abu Dhabi is to see an example of a marked student script: the timed question, the mark against the published mark scheme, and the note explaining what was lost and why. A provider who can produce one is running the kind of arrangement you can audit. A provider who offers a verbal account instead is asking you to take three months on trust. Start with a free trial lesson, no card details taken, which ends with exactly that artefact for your own child, on your child's own syllabus code, at a time your school run allows.
