IGCSE Private Tuition in Abu Dhabi

IGCSE private tuition in Abu Dhabi is quoted anywhere between AED 33 and AED 650 an hour, and almost nobody explains the spread. This page does. It sets out the published bands with the provider who published each one, the eight variables that move a quote inside this emirate, the examination entry costs families forget to budget, and what should be inside an hourly rate before you agree to it. Lessons are delivered one-to-one over live video, so there is no travel component hidden inside the number.

  • Every published rate attributed to the provider who published it
  • AED figures only; no dollar or sterling conversions to decode
  • Entry fees and resit costs included in the budget, not omitted
  • Online delivery, so no travel loaded into the hourly rate

IB & IGCSE in Abu Dhabi

Why two IGCSE quotes in the same emirate differ by a factor of ten

A parent in Khalifa City who asks three providers for an IGCSE Chemistry price will typically be quoted AED 60, AED 220 and AED 450. All three are real prices for real services and none is being dishonest. They differ because an hour of tuition is not a standardised unit. One is a university student revising alongside your child from a textbook. One is a qualified subject teacher who has taught the specification and will mark a past paper between sessions. One is a specialist with a narrow subject and a thin diary. The comparison is only possible once you know which of the three you are being offered.

The second reason for the spread is what sits outside the hour. Marking a full past paper against the published mark scheme takes a tutor between forty and sixty minutes, and it is the single most useful thing they do in a week. Some rates include it. Some bill it separately. Many providers simply do not do it, which is why a lesson can be sold at AED 60. A written session note, a component tracker and reading a coursework draft outside the lesson are all in the same category: real work, variably priced, and rarely itemised on a quote.

The third reason is specific to this stage. IGCSE is a wide qualification. A Year 11 student in Abu Dhabi usually sits eight to ten subjects across two boards, each with its own papers and its own internally assessed or practical component. That breadth changes the economics completely compared with a two-year Diploma plan in three Higher Levels. A family budgeting for IGCSE tuition is not buying one subject for two years; they are deciding which two of nine subjects deserve the hour, and that decision is worth more than the hourly rate they negotiate.

There are also costs around the tuition that nobody quotes. Examination entry as a private candidate, a November resit after a disappointing June, a replacement set of textbooks for a changed tier, additional practice material. None of these is large on its own and together they routinely exceed a month of lessons. They belong in the same budget conversation, and this page puts them there.

Everything below is priced in AED and attributed. Where a figure comes from a competitor's published page, that provider is named. Where it comes from Bestimate's 2026 Dubai rate table, that is stated. What you will not find here is an IB Gram price list, because our rate depends on the subject, the tier and the tutor matched, and it is quoted after a consultation. Delivery is one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time; IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE, so no travel is absorbed into the figure we quote.

At a glance

  • The hourly rate reflects who is teaching, not what is taught
  • Scheme marking takes 40-60 minutes a paper and is priced inconsistently
  • Eight to ten subjects means the allocation decision matters more than the rate
  • Entry fees and resits belong in the same budget as the lessons
  • Every AED figure below is attributed to whoever published it
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Cost varies by stage more than by district. These are the IGCSE stages Abu Dhabi families buy tuition for, with what each one typically needs in hours and why the price behaves differently.

Y9Ages 13-14 · Year 9

Year 9, before the course starts

The cheapest hour you will ever buy, because the gaps are small and the clock is not running. Work here is arithmetic fluency, reading stamina and an evidence-based options choice. A term of weekly support in Year 9 regularly removes the need for a far more expensive exam-year block.

Abu Dhabi schools run options evenings in the spring of Year 9 and finalise subject lists before any IGCSE paper has been sat. Buying a diagnostic paper at this point costs one session and can prevent a two-year mismatch in a tiered subject.

Y10Ages 14-15 · Year 10

Year 10, the first course year

Mid-range pricing and the best value in the qualification. Content is being met for the first time, so an hour spent closing a gap now is worth several hours spent unpicking it in the spring of Year 11. Tier decisions in Mathematics and the sciences are usually taken this year.

Families in this emirate overwhelmingly start tuition in Year 11. Those who start in Year 10 buy fewer total hours for the same outcome, which is the clearest saving available and the one almost nobody takes.

Y11Ages 15-16 · Year 11

Year 11, the examination year

The most expensive hour, for two reasons: demand concentrates between January and May, and the work is remedial rather than developmental. Specialist diaries fill first, so the same tutor who was available in October may not be in March at any price.

Abu Dhabi demand peaks after the autumn mock results are issued and again four weeks before the summer papers. A family wanting a specific specialist for the spring usually has to commit in the autumn term.

RESITAges 16+ · after Year 11

The November series and the resit route

Cambridge runs a June and a November series, and Pearson Edexcel offers International GCSE in May/June and November. A resit means a separate entry fee, a short intensive block of tuition, and in some cases a private candidate arrangement at a registered centre.

The resit budget is the one Abu Dhabi families are least prepared for, because it is decided in late August when results arrive and the November entry window is already close. Costing it in advance removes a panic purchase at the worst possible price.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Price varies by subject, mostly because supply does. These are the IGCSE subjects Abu Dhabi families ask for, with what makes each one cheap or expensive to cover.

Mathematics (Cambridge 0580, Edexcel 4MA1)

Core and Extended · Foundation and Higher

The deepest tutor pool in the emirate and therefore the most competitively priced. The rate rises sharply at the top of the Extended tier, where the work is multi-step method precision rather than content. Tiering is also where the largest free gain sits: a wrong tier caps the grade at no extra cost to anyone.

Physics (Cambridge 0625, Edexcel 4PH1)

Core and Extended

Mid to upper band. Supply is adequate at Core and thinner at Extended, and electricity and waves account for most enquiries. A fifth of the Cambridge mark sits in the practical or alternative-to-practical paper, which is the cheapest marks-per-hour fix in the subject.

Chemistry (Cambridge 0620, Edexcel 4CH1)

Core and Extended

Upper band at Extended. Moles, electrolysis and organic pathways carry the mark loss, and they need a tutor who can set unfamiliar-substance questions rather than re-explain definitions. That capability is what the higher rate buys.

Biology (Cambridge 0610, Edexcel 4BI1)

Core and Extended

Mid band with good supply. Content volume is the issue rather than difficulty, so the efficient purchase is command-word discipline and recall scheduling rather than a weekly re-teach of the specification.

First Language English (Cambridge 0500, Edexcel 4EA1)

Single tier

Mid band. The reading paper responds quickly to targeted work on the summary and analysis questions; the writing paper moves more slowly because register and structure are habits. Marking load per session is high, which is why a cheap rate here often excludes it.

English as a Second Language (Cambridge 0510 and 0511)

Core and Extended

Lower band, good supply. The expensive mistake is not the rate but the entry: a student placed here who could sit First Language English is capped at a lower ceiling, and sixth forms read the two codes differently.

Business Studies, Economics and Accounting (0450, 0455, 0452, 4BS1, 4EC1)

Single tier

Mid band. Evaluation marks at the end of the long questions are the unclaimed block, and they are teachable in a handful of sessions. A short targeted purchase usually beats a year of weekly support in these subjects.

Computer Science and ICT (Cambridge 0478, 0417, Edexcel 4IT1)

Single tier

Upper band because supply is thin. Pseudocode under timed conditions and trace tables are the specific gains, and tutors who can mark Paper 2 to the scheme are a small group in this market.

Additional and Further Pure Mathematics (0606, 4PM1)

Single tier

The most expensive IGCSE codes to cover locally, simply because almost nobody in a given Abu Dhabi district teaches them. Matching online removes the scarcity premium that a geographic search creates.

Arabic (Cambridge 0508 First Language, 0544 Foreign Language)

Two separate specifications

Variable pricing and a wide range of quality. Arabic runs alongside the international curriculum as a federally required subject, and the right code depends on whether Arabic is a first or additional language. A placement review costs one session and can change two years of outcomes.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three purchase patterns, priced differently. Each is delivered one-to-one over live video, and each buys a different thing per dirham.

The single weekly hour, held for a year

The lowest total cost per mark recovered, and the pattern that catches tier and entry problems early enough to act on them. Spread across a full academic year it is also the easiest to budget, because the monthly figure does not change. Its weakness is that it cannot absorb a crisis in a second subject without the allocation decision being revisited.

  • Predictable monthly cost across the academic year
  • Lowest cost per mark where the diagnosis is right
  • Entry and tier problems surface in time to change them
  • One subject only; a second crisis forces a reallocation

Two subjects through the exam year

Roughly double the monthly outlay and the most common Abu Dhabi pattern once mock results land. It works when the two subjects are chosen from diagnostics rather than from the student's least favourite teachers. Families who try to stretch the same spend across four or five subjects get a review session in each and movement in none.

  • Diagnostics in three or four subjects before the two are chosen
  • Mocks used as the reallocation point, in writing
  • Separate trackers so the spend is attributable
  • Four or five subjects on one budget buys review, not progress

A short intensive block before a series

Four to eight sessions bought as a unit in the weeks before the June or November papers. The highest hourly cost and the narrowest brief: timed papers, command words and the practical or alternative-to-practical component. It cannot deliver a syllabus, and a provider taking the booking without saying so is mispricing your expectations rather than the hour.

  • Priced as a block, usually at the top of the band
  • Entirely timed practice and marked scripts
  • Cannot teach a specification from scratch
  • Best bought with one or two subjects, never five

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Abu Dhabi

01

The eight variables that move an IGCSE tuition quote in this emirate

Before comparing numbers it helps to know what the numbers are responding to. Eight variables account for nearly all of the spread in Abu Dhabi, and six of them are things a parent can influence. The tutor's qualification and subject depth is the largest single factor, and it is the one correctly priced: a specialist who has taught Extended Chemistry for a decade is a different purchase from a graduate who sat it four years ago.

Scarcity of the code comes second. Mathematics 0580 has a deep pool and competitive pricing. Edexcel Further Pure 4PM1 and Cambridge Additional Mathematics 0606 have almost no local supply, and a geographic search for them produces either a refusal or a scarcity premium. Timing is third: specialist diaries fill between January and May, so the same hour costs more in March than in October because the alternative is nothing.

Then come the variables inside the service. Whether a full past paper is marked to the published scheme between sessions. Whether a written session note and component tracker are produced. Whether a coursework draft is read outside the lesson. Whether the session is 45, 60 or 90 minutes, and whether a 90-minute session is billed at 1.5 times or at a block rate. And finally, whether travel is in the price, which for in-home tuition in this emirate can be a quarter of what you pay.

The practical use of the list is as a question set. Ask a provider to price the same brief - one 60-minute session a week, one marked Extended paper a fortnight, a written note after each session - and three quotes become comparable for the first time. Most of the apparent price difference in this market disappears once the brief is specified, and what remains is a genuine quality difference you can then decide about.

The published rate card for this market, in AED, with sources

What follows is the market, not our price list. Each band below is taken from a provider's own published page or from Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 rate table, and the publisher is named beside the figure. Rates in Abu Dhabi track Dubai closely at the budget and specialist ends, and sit slightly below Dubai in the middle band, where competition between agencies is less intense.

At the budget end, Tutopiya advertises from AED 33 and EdFlik from AED 45 an hour. These are online, generally non-specialist, and marking is rarely included. In the qualified-tutor band, Unitors publishes IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. For specialists, Bestimate's table puts IB, IGCSE and A Level at AED 200 to 450 and above, TutorChase quotes AED 270, and BartyED advertises AED 650 for a premium named tutor.

In-home one-to-one carries the travel. Bestimate puts it at AED 180 to 350 and independent home tutors across the UAE advertise AED 200 to 500. Package pricing in the market clusters at around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home sessions. Bestimate's monthly estimates for a single weekly hour run AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 mid-market, and AED 1,000 to 2,000 and above for specialist exam-year support.

Read the table as a map of what exists rather than as a recommendation. Our own rate for an Abu Dhabi family depends on the subject, the tier and the tutor matched, and is given after a consultation. What we can say in advance is that it contains no travel component, because the lesson is delivered over live video.

Nine subjects, one budget: which hour to buy first

The hardest decision in IGCSE tuition is not the rate. It is that a Year 11 student sits eight to ten subjects and almost every family can afford support in one or two. Spending the same money across four subjects produces a weekly homework review in each and measurable movement in none, which is the most common way an Abu Dhabi tutoring budget is wasted.

The allocation rule that works is to buy where the marks are densest and the fix is cheapest, not where the student is unhappiest. A subject sitting four marks below a grade threshold with a diagnosed command-word fault is a cheap, fast gain. A subject fifteen marks below with a two-year content gap is an expensive, slow one. Those two situations deserve different decisions even if the student dislikes the second more.

The second rule is to weight subjects by how many doors they open. Mathematics and English appear in most sixth-form entry requirements and in the Ministry of Education's five-subject equivalency count, so a half-grade shortfall in either blocks more doors than the same shortfall in a fourth option. A student one mark short of the Mathematics requirement for A Level Physics has a very specific, very cheap problem worth solving first.

Diagnostics make the decision rather than opinions. Three one-hour diagnostic papers across three candidate subjects cost roughly the same as three weeks of weekly tuition, and they convert the whole budget conversation from guesswork into arithmetic. We run the first one free as a trial lesson, one per student, which brings the cost of deciding properly down to two sessions.

Hourly, per session or monthly: making two quotes describe the same purchase

  • Reduce every quote to cost per 60 minutes of live teaching
  • List what sits outside the hour: marking, notes, draft reading
  • Ask what happens to an unused session and what notice cancels one
  • Ask whether the quoted AED figure is the amount payable

Providers quote in at least four different units and the units are not interchangeable. An hourly rate is clean but says nothing about marking. A per-session rate hides the session length, and a 45-minute session at AED 200 is AED 267 an hour. A monthly package sounds cheaper and usually contains a fixed number of sessions that expire, so a family travelling for two weeks in February loses half of that month. A per-term commitment often carries the lowest headline rate and the least flexibility.

The conversion to do before comparing is to reduce everything to cost per 60 minutes of live teaching, then list separately what each quote includes outside that hour. A package at AED 799 a month for eight sessions looks like AED 100 a session, but if the sessions are 45 minutes it is AED 133 an hour, and if marking is not included the comparison with a AED 220 specialist who marks a full paper a fortnight is closer than the headline suggests.

Three contract questions are worth asking before any commitment. What happens to an unused session, and does it roll forward? What notice cancels a session without charge, and does that change during the exam term? Can the engagement be paused for a school trip or a family absence without losing the rate? Providers who answer these clearly are usually the ones running an organised operation; vagueness here tends to predict vagueness later.

Finally, settle the invoicing. Ask for an invoice naming the provider, the sessions and the amount, and ask whether the figure quoted is the figure payable. We do not state the UAE value-added-tax treatment of tuition as fact on this page, because that requires a Federal Tax Authority citation rather than an opinion from a tutoring company; what any provider should tell you plainly is whether their quoted AED figure is the final amount you pay.

05

Entry fees, resits and the costs that are not tuition at all

A tuition budget that only counts lessons is incomplete. The examination itself carries a cost, and it changes depending on whether the candidate sits through their school or as a private candidate at a registered centre. Schools bundle entry fees into their own billing, often with a late-entry surcharge that families discover after the deadline. Private candidates pay the centre directly and usually pay more, because the centre is providing invigilation and administration for one person.

The structural fact that drives the budget is the deadline. For Cambridge, the two series open to UAE candidates are June and November, and final entries for a June sitting close in the spring term, with the binding date on the statement of entry the centre issues rather than published as one national cut-off. Pearson works to the same lead time: the November 2026 International GCSE papers run from late October to 19 November 2026, and entries for them closed months earlier in the year. Either way the money is committed well before the paper, and a family deciding in April that an extra subject would be useful has usually missed the economical route to it.

Resits are the second uncosted item. Cambridge runs June and November series, and Pearson Edexcel offers International GCSE in May/June and November. A June result that falls a grade short of a sixth-form requirement leads to a November entry decided in late August, which means a new entry fee plus an intensive tuition block bought at the top of the band with four weeks' notice. Costing that scenario in advance is the difference between a plan and a scramble.

Smaller items add up. Replacement textbooks when a tier changes. A set of past paper booklets. An additional language entry taken privately. None of these is large, and together they routinely exceed a month of weekly lessons. The honest version of a tuition budget for an Abu Dhabi IGCSE student lists them alongside the hourly rate rather than discovering them one at a time.

06

Tuition set beside school fees, and what the fee context tells you

Private tuition in Abu Dhabi is almost always a small fraction of what a family already pays for schooling, and seeing the two figures together changes how the decision feels. A single weekly hour at the mid-market band works out, on Bestimate's own monthly estimates, at AED 600 to 1,200 a month. Against a British-curriculum secondary fee in this emirate, that is a modest addition; against a household already stretched by fees, it is the reason the allocation decision matters so much.

The regional fee context is worth knowing because it shapes supply. In Dubai, KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that there would be no increase in private school fees for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total. Dubai's 2026-27 intake adds seven new private schools, four British curriculum and three International Baccalaureate, creating 16,846 new places after a 6 per cent enrolment rise in 2025-26.

Those are Dubai figures and should not be read as Abu Dhabi policy. In this emirate it is ADEK that supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools and publishes inspection outcomes, and fee decisions sit with the authority rather than with the school. What the Dubai numbers do show is a regional market where enrolment is growing faster than the specialist tutor pool, which is the structural reason scarce syllabus codes carry a premium.

The practical conclusion is unglamorous. Tuition is the cheapest adjustable line in an education budget, which makes it the first thing families increase and the last thing they review. Reviewing it every half term against a marked paper, and stopping when the component is secure, is worth more over two years than negotiating the hourly rate ever will be.

Group, pair and one-to-one: cost per recovered mark

  • Group: cheapest per hour, works for structure and content coverage
  • Pair: 60-70 per cent of the one-to-one rate, needs matched levels
  • One-to-one: highest rate, only format that interrupts and corrects in real time
  • Compare on cost per recovered mark against a marked paper, not on rate

Group tuition looks like the obvious saving and sometimes is. A tuition centre class of six at a third of the one-to-one rate is genuinely cheaper per hour, and for a student who needs structure, deadlines and company while revising content they broadly know, it can be the right purchase. The arithmetic turns against it as soon as the problem is specific to that student.

The variable to think about is talk time. In a class of six, a student speaks for a sixth of the available minutes at best, and the tutor pitches to the middle of the group. If your child's fault is that they answer four-mark explain questions in one line, that fault needs interrupting mid-sentence and rewriting on the spot, repeatedly. A group cannot deliver that, so the cheaper hour buys fewer corrections and the saving is nominal.

A pair is the interesting middle. Two students at the same tier in the same subject, ideally with different faults, at roughly 60 to 70 per cent of the one-to-one rate each. It works when both are at a similar level and both do the work between sessions. It fails quietly when one student is materially behind, because the tutor ends up teaching to that student and the other family is funding it.

The honest metric is cost per recovered mark, measured against a marked paper. A specialist at AED 300 who converts six marks a paper in four weeks is cheaper per mark than a group at AED 90 that converts one. That is not an argument for always buying the dearest option; it is an argument for insisting on the diagnostic first, so the comparison is made against evidence rather than against a rate card.

The in-home premium in Abu Dhabi, and what the drive actually costs

The search that brings most families to a page like this is for someone to come to the villa, so the comparison deserves a straight answer rather than a deflection. IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE; home tutoring is a service we provide only in India. Face-to-face lessons in Abu Dhabi are not something we sell, and the case for the alternative has to be made on cost and coverage rather than asserted.

On cost, the published numbers are clear. Bestimate puts in-home one-to-one at AED 180 to 350 against online qualified tutors in the AED 150 to 300 band, and independent home tutors across the UAE advertise AED 200 to 500. The gap is the journey. A tutor driving from the island to Al Shamkha at 17:00 spends an hour in traffic for a one-hour lesson, and that hour is paid for whether it appears as a travel line or is absorbed into the rate. For outlying communities the premium is largest, which is the opposite of what families out there expect.

On coverage, the geography is the constraint. A 20-minute radius in Khalifa City contains a reasonable number of Mathematics and Biology tutors and almost nobody who can mark Cambridge Additional Mathematics 0606 or Edexcel Further Pure 4PM1 to the scheme. Removing the radius removes the scarcity, and that is worth more than the rate difference to the families who need those codes.

There are things the visiting format genuinely does better, and pretending otherwise is not useful. A younger or very distractible student is easier to hold to task with an adult beside them. A parent can overhear the lesson. What replaces that in an online engagement is the written record: the annotated script, the session note and the tracker, which tell you more about where the marks went than overhearing ever does. That is the exchange, and the table below puts the dirhams beside it.

Paying someone who is permitted to teach, and keeping the paperwork

  • The MoHRE private tuition permit is free and valid for two years
  • No fine schedule is published, so no amount can be quoted honestly
  • ADEK ethics rules rule out your child's own school teacher
  • Ask what personal data about your child is held, and how to delete it

Price is not the only thing to settle before money changes hands. Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit. Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 introduced the MoHRE private tuition work permit, which is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed residents, university students, and school students aged 15 to 18. MoHRE's own service page lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time, applied for through the ministry's app, website and e-services system.

Because the permit costs nothing, a tutor charging professional rates has no economic excuse for not holding one. Those offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws; no schedule of amounts has been published, so any figure quoted to you is invented. Ask the question directly and treat evasion as information.

A second check is specific to this emirate. ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from providing paid private tuition to students enrolled at their own school, and the permit's code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with the holder's own school. This is press-reported rather than quoted from the policy text, so verify it against the current ADEK document - but it rules out the arrangement many families reach for first.

Keep the paperwork on your side too. An invoice naming the provider, the sessions and the amount. A note of what the rate includes. And, because lead forms and lessons involve personal data about a minor, a clear statement of what is collected, why, and how to have it deleted, under the UAE's Federal Decree-Law No. 45 of 2021 on Personal Data Protection. A provider who cannot answer that question about a child's data is not a provider to hand a child's data to.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across Abu Dhabi

Where you live in Abu Dhabi changes the cost of tuition in exactly one way: it decides whether travel is in the price. Online delivery removes that variable, which is why the district matters for timing rather than for the rate.

Khalifa City

The largest source of IGCSE enquiries outside the island. An in-home tutor crossing from the island at 17:00 is paid for the journey one way or another; an online slot at the same hour is not.

Al Shamkha and Al Falah

Far enough out that visiting tutors either decline or quote a premium. Published in-home bands of AED 180 to 500 sit at the upper end here, which is the clearest case in the emirate for buying the lesson rather than the journey.

Saadiyat Island

A short crossing but a crowded evening. Families here most often convert to weekend morning blocks, which are cheaper per useful minute because concentration is higher.

Al Reem Island

Apartment households where the practical spend before the first lesson is a desk and a door that closes, not an extra session. It is the cheapest improvement available to most tower families.

Mussafah and Mohammed Bin Zayed City

Multi-child households where the budget question is sequencing rather than rate. Two children in back-to-back slots on one evening is materially cheaper than four scattered hours.

Al Raha and Al Bandar

Schools inside or beside the community hand back most of the commute, so a 90-minute session is feasible. Longer sessions are usually better value per dirham than two short ones.

Al Mushrif and Al Bateen

Established island catchment with the earliest realistic start times in the emirate. The practical saving here is scheduling two siblings consecutively from 16:30.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Abu Dhabi

Island schools

Abu Dhabi island holds the emirate's longest-established British-curriculum schools, and their published tuition fees are the anchor against which any tutoring budget should be read. Students we support attend schools across this cluster. Boards differ by department, so the subject's syllabus code matters more than the school's name when pricing a match.

  • The British School Al Khubairat
  • Brighton College Abu Dhabi
  • Al Bateen Academy
  • Repton Abu Dhabi
  • Al Dhafra Private School
  • Nord Anglia International School Abu Dhabi

Khalifa City, Al Raha and mainland Abu Dhabi

This corridor carries the bulk of British-curriculum enrolment outside the island and most of the emirate's IGCSE tuition demand. Fee levels here span a wide range, which is one reason the same tutoring budget means very different things to two families in neighbouring communities.

  • Al Yasmina Academy
  • Reach British School
  • The British International School Abu Dhabi
  • Aspen Heights British School
  • GEMS Cambridge International School Abu Dhabi
  • GEMS Winchester School Abu Dhabi

Schools are named as context for the Abu Dhabi curriculum and fee landscape only; no affiliation, endorsement or relationship with any named school is implied.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

A consultation that produces a brief and a band

Twenty minutes on the subject, the board, the syllabus code, the tier, the last raw mark and the hour the student can work in. The output is a written brief and the rate band that brief sits in. A quote given before the code is known is a guess, and we would rather say so.

  2. 02

A free diagnostic as the trial lesson

One free trial lesson per student, spent on a real past paper rather than introductions, marked to the published scheme. You end up with a raw mark and a question-by-question breakdown. If you do not continue, the diagnostic is still yours and nothing is owed.

  3. 03

    The allocation decision, in writing

Where more than one subject is in question, the diagnostics decide which gets the hour and the reason is written down. Reallocating later is fine; doing it without a reason is how a budget drifts across five subjects and moves none of them.

  4. 04

A fixed slot and a predictable monthly figure

Sessions are held at a fixed hour so the monthly cost does not fluctuate. Rescheduling terms, notice periods and what happens to an unused session are stated before the first invoice rather than negotiated after one is missed.

  5. 05

A half-term cost review against a marked paper

Every six or seven weeks the spend is reviewed against the component tracker and one of three decisions is taken: continue, move the hour to a different subject, or stop. Reviewing the spend is worth more over two years than negotiating the rate was.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Every figure attributed

Each AED band on this page names the provider or rate table that published it. Three of six researched competitors publish no price at all and two quote in dollars, which is not a currency UAE families transact in.

No travel inside the rate

Lessons are delivered one-to-one over live video, so nothing you pay funds a drive across the emirate. For families in Al Shamkha, Al Falah and Al Ghadeer that is the largest single saving available.

The brief priced before the hour

We quote against a written brief naming the code, the component and what you receive between sessions. It is the only way two quotes become comparable, and it stops a cheap hour turning out to exclude the marking.

The examination-side costs included

Entry deadlines, private candidate fees and the November resit scenario are costed in the first conversation. These are the items that turn a planned budget into a scramble in late August.

No accreditation or ranking claims

IB Gram holds no permit, licence or partnership from ADEK, KHDA, the Ministry of Education, Cambridge or Pearson, and claims none. We explain what each body does and link to its own pages instead.

A review that can end the engagement

Each half term the record is read and stopping is one of the three available answers. A provider whose review always concludes continue is not reviewing anything, and the hour should be easy to end.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Abu Dhabi: your questions answered

How much does IGCSE private tuition cost per hour in Abu Dhabi?+

Published rates in this market run from about AED 33 to AED 650 an hour. Tutopiya advertises from AED 33 and EdFlik from AED 45 for budget online tutors. Unitors publishes IGCSE from AED 150 for qualified subject tutors. Bestimate's 2026 rate table puts IGCSE and A Level specialists at AED 200 to 450 and above, TutorChase quotes AED 270, and BartyED advertises AED 650 for a premium named tutor. Those are other providers' published figures. Our own rate depends on subject, tier and tutor and is quoted after a consultation.

Why is one IGCSE tutor AED 60 an hour and another AED 300?+

Because an hour of tuition is not a standard unit. The AED 60 hour is usually a non-specialist working from a textbook with no marking between sessions. The AED 300 hour is usually a subject specialist who marks a full past paper to the published scheme, writes a session note and maintains a component record. Scheme marking alone takes forty to sixty minutes a paper. Specify the brief - one session, one marked paper a fortnight, a written note - and ask all three providers to price it. Most of the apparent gap disappears.

Is a monthly tuition package cheaper than paying by the hour?+

Sometimes, and the headline is misleading. A market package at AED 799 a month for eight sessions reads as AED 100 a session, but if those sessions are 45 minutes it is AED 133 an hour, and if marking is excluded it is not comparable to a specialist who marks a paper a fortnight. Before signing, ask three questions: does an unused session roll forward, what notice cancels one without charge, and can the engagement be paused for travel? Packages reward families who never miss a week.

We can afford one hour a week. Which of my child's nine subjects gets it?+

Buy where the marks are densest and the fix is cheapest, not where your child is most frustrated. A subject four marks below a threshold with a diagnosed command-word fault is a fast, cheap gain. A subject fifteen marks below with a two-year content gap is neither. Weight Mathematics and English more heavily, because both appear in most sixth-form entry requirements and in the Ministry of Education's five-subject equivalency count. Then decide on diagnostic papers rather than on opinion: three diagnostics cost about three weeks of lessons.

Does an in-home tutor in Abu Dhabi really cost more than an online one?+

Yes, and the difference is the journey. Bestimate puts in-home one-to-one at AED 180 to 350 against AED 150 to 300 for qualified online tutors, and independent home tutors advertise AED 200 to 500. A tutor driving from the island to Al Shamkha at 17:00 spends an hour travelling for a one-hour lesson, and that hour is paid for whether it is billed as travel or absorbed into the rate. The premium is largest for outlying communities, which surprises families who live in them.

What should be included in the hourly rate besides the lesson?+

Four things worth asking about by name. A full past paper marked against the published scheme, which takes a tutor forty to sixty minutes. A short written note after each session. A component tracker carrying raw marks and paper references forward. And reading a coursework draft outside the lesson where the subject has an internally assessed component. Providers vary enormously on all four, and two identical hourly rates can represent quite different purchases once you know which of these are in and which are extra.

What do IGCSE examination entries cost, and when is the money committed?+

Entry is charged by the board and reaches you either through the school's billing or directly from a registered centre if your child sits as a private candidate, which is usually dearer per subject. The commitment comes months before the paper. Pearson's November 2026 International GCSE papers run from late October to 19 November 2026, with entries closed months earlier in the year, and Cambridge's June series closes its entries in the spring term on a date the centre confirms. A decision taken in April about a June sitting has usually missed the economical route, which leaves November as the next realistic entry.

How should we budget for a November IGCSE resit?+

Cambridge runs June and November series and Pearson Edexcel offers International GCSE in May/June and November, so a resit is available but expensive to arrange late. The decision is made in late August when results arrive, which means a new entry fee plus an intensive tuition block bought with four weeks' notice at the top of the rate band. Pricing that scenario in advance, while the June tuition is still running, converts a panic purchase into a plan. Most families who do this never need it.

Is group tuition at a centre better value than one-to-one?+

For content coverage and structure, often yes. For a specific diagnosed fault, usually not. In a class of six your child speaks for a sixth of the minutes and the tutor pitches to the middle. If the fault is answering four-mark explain questions in one line, it needs interrupting and rewriting repeatedly, which a group cannot deliver. Judge it on cost per recovered mark against a marked paper rather than on the hourly rate, and buy the group for breadth and the hour for precision.

Does paying more guarantee a better IGCSE grade?+

No, and any provider implying otherwise should be treated with real scepticism. What a higher rate buys is a tutor who has taught the specification, can mark to the published scheme, and can diagnose a fault in the first session rather than the fifth. That shortens the path; it does not promise an outcome, because the marks are earned by the student in the exam hall. The safeguard against overpaying is the same either way: insist on a marked diagnostic before committing to a block of sessions.

When is the cheapest time of year to start IGCSE tuition?+

Year 10, by a wide margin, and the autumn term within any year. Content met for the first time is cheaper to secure than content unpicked eighteen months later, and specialist diaries are open in October in a way they are not in March. Demand in Abu Dhabi peaks after autumn mock results and again four weeks before the summer papers, and rates reflect it. Families who commit for two terms in the autumn also tend to be able to hold a rate that a March booking cannot.

Should a 90-minute session cost one and a half times the hourly rate?+

Ask, because providers differ and the answer tells you how they think. Some bill strictly pro rata, some offer a block rate, and some only sell 60 minutes. For a student with a long content gap and reasonable concentration, 90 minutes fortnightly often achieves more than 60 minutes weekly, because a full paper can be sat and reviewed in one sitting. For a younger or more distractible student the shorter weekly rhythm is usually the better purchase at any price.

Does the quoted AED figure include tax?+

Ask the provider directly and get the answer in writing. We will not state the UAE value-added-tax treatment of tuition fees as fact here, because that requires a Federal Tax Authority citation rather than a tutoring company's opinion. What any provider should tell you plainly is whether the AED figure they quoted is the amount payable, and whether an invoice will be issued naming the provider, the sessions and the total. Vagueness on that question is worth noticing before money changes hands.

Is it cheaper to hire a teacher from my child's own school privately?+

It may be cheaper and it is the arrangement to rule out. ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from providing paid private tuition to students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit's code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with the holder's own school. That is press-reported, so verify the current ADEK wording. Beyond the rule, the conflict around predicted grades and internally assessed work is reason enough to avoid it.

How do we know when to stop paying for tuition?+

Review the spend every half term against the component tracker, and treat stopping as one of three legitimate answers. If the component mark is flat across three comparable papers with no named reason, more hours will not fix the diagnosis. If the component is consistently at the top of its range, the target is met and the hour should move or end. If two timed papers sit well below the threshold with eight weeks left, the conversation is about the entry rather than about buying more sessions.

Price the brief, not the hour

The useful move before buying IGCSE private tuition in Abu Dhabi is to write the brief down: the subject, the board, the syllabus code, the tier, the component you want moved, and what you expect to receive between sessions. Then ask every provider to price that. Three quotes that looked ten times apart usually come much closer together, and what is left is a real difference in capability you can decide about. The trial lesson is free, one per student, and is spent on a real past paper so you leave with a marked diagnostic rather than an impression. Tell us the code and the component and we will tell you the band it sits in, or tell you honestly that we cannot cover it.
