IGCSE Home Tutor Fees in Abu Dhabi

IGCSE home tutor fees in Abu Dhabi are not one number. The same family can be quoted AED 120 and AED 480 for an hour that looks identical on paper, and the gap is explained by six things: the subject, the tier, the year group, the clock time, the board and whether anybody has to drive. This page prices each of those factors separately for Abu Dhabi, names the published source behind every band, and then says plainly that IB Gram delivers its own IGCSE support one-to-one over live video rather than by sending anyone to an address.

IB & IGCSE in Abu Dhabi

A fee quote is six decisions wearing one number

Parents in Abu Dhabi usually start the search for IGCSE tuition by asking the price, and they are usually given a single figure. That figure is almost meaningless on its own. An hour of Cambridge IGCSE Biology for a Year 10 student in October, booked at four in the afternoon, is a different commercial product from an hour of Cambridge IGCSE Additional Mathematics for a Year 11 student in April, booked at seven in the evening, with a visiting tutor driving from the island out to Al Reef. Both get described as an hour of IGCSE tuition. They are priced differently because they cost differently to supply.

There are six factors that move the number, and they move it in predictable directions. Subject scarcity is the largest single multiplier: a tutor who can teach Arabic as a first language to syllabus 0508 standard, or who can handle the Additional Mathematics 0606 content properly, is competing for far fewer hours of their own time than a tutor offering general science. Tier matters next, because Extended-tier content covers ground that Core does not, and the person teaching it needs to know the harder material cold. Year group matters because a Year 11 hour in the second half of the year is a scarce, deadline-bound hour. Clock time matters because the window between the end of the school day and bedtime is narrow. Board matters because a tutor who knows both the Cambridge and Pearson versions of a subject is rarer than one who knows either. And travel matters, because somebody has to pay for the forty minutes in the car.

The published market data for this emirate makes the ranges visible. Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 rate table puts in-home one-to-one work at roughly AED 180 to AED 350 an hour, with independent home tutors quoting up to AED 500. EdFlik advertises from AED 45 to AED 65 an hour at the budget end and Tutopiya from around AED 33 to AED 52; Unitors publishes IGCSE tuition from AED 150; TutorChase quotes AED 270 for specialist work; BartyED sits at AED 650 for a premium named tutor. Monthly packages circulate at around AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 for four two-hour visits. None of those are IB Gram prices. They are the market you are shopping in, and knowing the shape of it is what stops a quote being either an insult or a trap.

Abu Dhabi has its own cost geography on top of that. Private schools in the emirate are licensed and inspected by the Department of Education and Knowledge, and enrolment sits in three loose bands: the island itself, the Khalifa City and Al Raha corridor, and the newer mainland communities out towards Al Shamkha and Al Samha. A tutor living on the island who takes a seven o'clock booking in Al Ghadeer is not selling an hour; they are selling an hour plus most of an evening. That is why the visiting band in the published data is so wide, and it is also why the online band sits below it. The driving does not get cheaper by being hidden inside a round number.

The honest position on delivery, stated before any of the pricing detail: IB Gram does not send a tutor to an Abu Dhabi address. Home visits are a service we run only in India. Every UAE lesson is one-to-one over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time, with the student's work marked between sessions. We have kept the phrase home tutor fees on this page because it is what parents type, and because the honest answer to the question includes what the visiting market charges and why. The rest of this page prices both and lets you decide which you are actually buying.

At a glance

  • Subject scarcity moves a quote more than any other single factor in Abu Dhabi
  • Extended-tier teaching is priced above Core because the content is wider, not because the tutor is better
  • Evening slots between 4pm and 9pm carry a demand premium; morning and weekend slots do not
  • A visiting rate contains a travel component whether or not the invoice separates it
  • Package pricing is only cheaper per hour if every session in the block is actually used
  • Every AED figure on this page belongs to the market and names its source
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Fees track the stage, not just the subject. These are the four stages an Abu Dhabi family typically buys tuition for, with what the hour is being asked to do at each one and what that does to the rate.

LOWER SECAges 11-14 · Years 7-9

Cambridge Lower Secondary and Key Stage 3

The cheapest hour on any Abu Dhabi rate card, and often the most useful one. Nothing here is externally examined, so an hour spent fixing fraction work, algebraic manipulation or scientific writing is an hour that buys back three later. Tutors at this stage do not need subject-specialist depth, which is exactly why the market band sits low.

Abu Dhabi families tend to buy at this stage only when a school report flags something, which is a pity: the Checkpoint years are when a rate of AED 120 to AED 180 an hour can still change a trajectory. Demand is lightest in Years 7 and 8, so the slot choice is wide and evening premiums barely apply.

COREAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

IGCSE Core tier

Core-tier entries examine a narrower body of content and cap the grade available, so the teaching job is consolidation rather than extension. The market prices Core below Extended, usually by AED 30 to AED 60 an hour for the same tutor. The real question on a Core entry is whether the ceiling is right, because a tier decision made in Year 10 is hard to reverse late.

Core entries are more common in Abu Dhabi than parents assume, particularly where a student joined a British-curriculum school mid-Key Stage 4 from another system. Any quote for Core work should be paired with an honest view on whether a move to Extended is realistic in the time left.

EXTENDEDAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

IGCSE Extended tier

The volume hour in this market. Extended covers the full content and carries the grades a sixth-form or Diploma place usually needs, and almost every tuition enquiry in Abu Dhabi for Years 10 and 11 is about an Extended entry. Market rates for a qualified subject tutor working online run roughly AED 150 to AED 300, with specialists quoted higher.

The Extended rate in Abu Dhabi rises through the academic year rather than staying flat. September bookings are negotiable; March bookings for a May or June series are not, because the people who can do the work are already timetabled. Families who plan in autumn pay the autumn price.

POST-16Ages 16-19 · Years 12-13

AS, A Level and IB Diploma entry

Included here because the IGCSE budget decision is usually really a post-16 decision. The grades a student leaves Year 11 with determine which Higher Level or A Level options open, and post-16 tuition is the most expensive band on the card. Spending at IGCSE to protect an option is cheaper than buying remedial hours in Year 12.

Abu Dhabi sixth forms and Diploma programmes commonly set subject-specific entry grades at IGCSE. A family weighing AED 200 an hour for Extended Mathematics in Year 11 against the cost of a Year 12 catch-up block is looking at the same decision from two ends.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Scarcity, not difficulty, sets the premium. These are the Cambridge and Pearson subjects Abu Dhabi families most often ask us to price, with a note on what makes each one cheap or expensive to supply here.

Mathematics (Cambridge 0580, Pearson 4MA1)

Core and Extended

The most supplied subject in the emirate and therefore the most competitively priced. Plenty of tutors can teach it, so a quote above the AED 300 mark needs justifying by something concrete: examiner experience, a track record with the harder Extended topics, or availability in a slot nobody else has.

Additional Mathematics (Cambridge 0606)

Single tier

A genuine scarcity premium. The content moves into calculus and advanced trigonometry, far fewer Abu Dhabi tutors teach it confidently, and the quotes reflect that. Expect to pay at the specialist end of the market band rather than the general maths rate, and expect fewer slots to choose from.

Physics (Cambridge 0625, Pearson 4PH1)

Core and Extended

Priced above general science because the mathematical content filters the supply. The marks that move are usually in the longer structured questions and the practical paper, where candidates lose marks on method and precision rather than recall, so sessions need a tutor who can mark as well as explain.

Chemistry (Cambridge 0620, Pearson 4CH1)

Core and Extended

Mid-band pricing with a sharp seasonal spike. Organic chemistry and mole calculations generate most of the enquiries, and they generate them in the same six weeks every year, which is when the rate hardens. Booked in September the same tutor is routinely quoted lower.

Biology (Cambridge 0610, Pearson 4BI1)

Core and Extended

The best supplied science in Abu Dhabi and usually the cheapest of the three. The teaching job is less about concepts than about writing: candidates who know the material lose marks by answering a command term loosely, and that is fixable in a small number of sessions.

English as a Second Language (Cambridge 0510)

Core and Extended

High volume, moderate pricing, and the subject where the entry route matters most. A student capable of first-language work entered for the second-language syllabus has had a ceiling set for them, so a first session should look at the entry decision before it looks at the writing.

Arabic as a First Language (Cambridge 0508)

Single tier

The clearest scarcity premium in the emirate. Tutors who can teach first-language Arabic to IGCSE standard are in short supply relative to demand, and the federal requirement that private schools teach Arabic keeps that demand steady. Quotes here sit well above the general-subject band.

Business Studies and Economics (Cambridge 0450 and 0455)

Single tier

Reasonably supplied and reasonably priced, with the marks concentrated in application and evaluation rather than definition. Students who revise by memorising terms plateau in the low grades, so sessions that are worth paying for are built around past-paper answers, not notes.

Computer Science (Cambridge 0478)

Single tier

Thin supply, firm pricing. The theory paper and the practical problem-solving paper reward different things, and tutors who are strong on both are scarce in Abu Dhabi. Families often pay a premium here simply for availability in a usable evening slot.

Coordinated and Combined Sciences (Cambridge 0654 and 0653)

Core and Extended

Cheaper per subject than three separate sciences and a common Abu Dhabi entry. The pricing trap is that one tutor rarely covers all three disciplines to the same depth, so a single low rate can mean two of the three disciplines are being taught thinly.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways of buying the same teaching, with different cost structures. All three are delivered one-to-one over live video, which is why none of them carries a travel line.

Weekly one-to-one, single subject

A fixed slot each week with the same subject specialist, with work set and marked between sessions. This is the cheapest effective way to buy sustained progress because the rate is stable and the tutor's knowledge of the student compounds. It is also the format where a scarcity premium hurts least, since one slot a week is easier to find than three.

  • Same tutor, same slot, booked for a term rather than a session at a time
  • Marked work between sessions, so the paid hour is spent on diagnosis
  • No travel component, because nobody travels
  • Easiest format to pause for exam weeks and restart afterwards

Pre-series intensive block

A short, dense run of sessions in the weeks before a Cambridge or Pearson series, built around timed papers rather than content delivery. The hourly rate for this work is higher everywhere in the market because availability is scarce at exactly that point in the calendar, which is the argument for booking it in autumn rather than in spring.

  • Built around full timed papers, marked and returned with a diagnosis
  • Priced at the specialist end of the market band because of when it falls
  • Booked months ahead or not available at all in peak weeks
  • Suited to a student whose content knowledge is sound and whose technique is not

Two-subject pairing for one student

Two related subjects taught by one tutor across the week, most often Mathematics with Physics or Biology with Chemistry. Pairing reduces the administrative overhead and gives the tutor a fuller picture of workload, and it is the one arrangement where a sensible rate reduction is reasonable to ask for because the tutor is filling two slots from one relationship.

  • One tutor, two subjects, one shared view of the student's week
  • Reasonable basis for asking about a combined rate
  • Only sensible where the tutor genuinely teaches both to the same depth
  • Not available on every pairing; Additional Mathematics is often standalone

Six factors move an Abu Dhabi IGCSE quote, and they move it predictably

  • Ask for the rate broken into these six parts before comparing two quotes
  • A quote that cannot explain its own premium is usually pricing availability, not expertise
  • Only one of the six factors vanishes online, and it is the largest one for outer communities

An IGCSE home tutor fee in Abu Dhabi is built from six inputs. Ask a provider to price each of them separately and the number stops looking arbitrary. Subject scarcity is the first and largest: the smaller the pool of people in or available to this market who can teach the specification properly, the higher the rate, and the less room there is to negotiate on slot times. Tier is second, because Extended content is wider than Core and the teaching has to go further.

Year group is third. A Year 9 hour is bought to prevent a problem; a Year 11 hour in the second half of the year is bought to fix one, with a fixed deadline attached. Scarcity rises as the deadline approaches, and so does the price. Clock time is fourth: in a city where the school day ends in the early afternoon and most families want a slot between four and nine in the evening, that five-hour window is where almost all demand sits, and demand pricing applies to it. Board is fifth, because a tutor fluent in both the Cambridge and the Pearson version of a subject is scarcer than one fluent in either, and families whose children sit both boards across subjects value that fluency.

Travel is sixth, and it is the one factor that disappears entirely under live video delivery. The published Abu Dhabi and Dubai figures show the effect clearly: Bestimate puts in-home one-to-one at roughly AED 180 to AED 350 an hour against a qualified online band that Unitors starts at AED 150, and independent home tutors quote as high as AED 500. The difference is not teaching quality. It is a car, a bridge and an evening. The table below gives each factor a direction and a rough swing, so a quote can be read rather than simply accepted or refused.

Scarcity pricing by subject: which IGCSE hours cost more in this emirate

The single most useful thing a parent can know before asking for a price is whether the subject is abundant or scarce in Abu Dhabi. Abundance is why Mathematics and Biology quotes cluster so tightly: dozens of credible people can teach them, so nobody can hold out for a premium. Scarcity is why Arabic as a first language, Additional Mathematics and Computer Science quotes sit noticeably higher, and why the slot offered is often the one the tutor has left rather than the one you wanted.

Scarcity in this market has three sources. Some subjects are taught in relatively few Abu Dhabi schools, so the local teaching population is small to begin with. Some require a skill set that is in demand elsewhere: a competent Computer Science teacher has options outside tutoring. And some, Arabic first language in particular, sit against a standing requirement rather than an optional choice, because private schools in the UAE must teach Arabic alongside their licensed curriculum regardless of which international programme they run. Demand for that subject does not soften.

The practical consequence is that a budget should be allocated by scarcity, not evenly. If a student needs help in Biology and in Additional Mathematics, the Biology hour is the one to shop around on and the Additional Mathematics hour is the one to book early and pay the going rate for. Families who do the reverse end up overpaying for an abundant subject and then finding nothing available in the scarce one in March. The table sets out where each common subject sits.

The four-to-nine squeeze: why the same hour costs more at six o'clock

Abu Dhabi school days finish early by international standards, and the hours parents want for tuition are the hours between the end of the school run and a reasonable bedtime. That is a five-hour window, five or six days a week, and it is where almost every enquiry lands. A tutor can sell perhaps three of those hours well on a weekday. Everything outside the window is easy to book and everything inside it is contested, and the rate follows.

The squeeze is sharper in Abu Dhabi than the raw hours suggest, for two local reasons. First, the geography: a visiting tutor who accepts a five o'clock booking in Khalifa City cannot realistically take a seven o'clock in Al Reef, so the opportunity cost of a mid-evening slot is an entire evening. Second, the school-run pattern: families with two or three children in different year groups are frequently not home and settled until well after four, which compresses demand into the later part of the window where the premium is highest.

There is money in knowing this. The two cheapest usable slots in this market are early morning before school, which works for a disciplined Year 11 student revising rather than learning new content, and weekend mornings, which are wide open and attract no premium at all. Both are only available at sensible prices because the lesson happens over live video and no travel is involved. A Saturday morning session costs a tutor nothing in driving and competes with nothing, which is why it prices the way it does.

Two quote shapes, one decision: per hour against per package

  • Divide the package price by the sessions you will realistically attend, not by the sessions sold
  • A short cancellation window is worth real money in Years 10 and 11
  • Ask what happens to an unused session before asking what the discount is

Abu Dhabi providers quote in two shapes and the shapes are not comparable without arithmetic. An hourly quote is simple and flexible and carries no commitment. A package quote attaches a lower effective rate to a block of sessions, and the published examples in this market are around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 a month for four two-hour visits. On the face of it the package wins. It wins only if every session is used.

The arithmetic that matters is the effective rate after attrition. Eight sessions at AED 799 is just under AED 100 a session if all eight happen. Miss two to illness, travel and an exam week, which is an ordinary month in Years 10 and 11, and the effective rate rises by a third. Packages with a strict expiry and no rollover quietly transfer the risk of a disrupted month from the provider to the family. Packages with rollover, or with a cancellation window measured in hours rather than days, do not.

There is a second difference that rarely appears in the headline. Hourly bookings are usually cancellable close to the session; package sessions often are not, because the provider has committed the tutor's slot for the block. For a family whose child plays sport, travels to see relatives in the holidays, or has mock weeks that move, flexibility has a cash value. The right question to a provider is not what the package costs but what happens to session six if nobody can attend it.

One budget, nine subjects: buying the hour that is worth most

  • Buy the hour that protects a post-16 option before the hour that fixes a favourite subject
  • Technique gaps move faster per dirham than content gaps; diagnose before booking a term
  • Protect the five subjects that carry Ministry equivalency before optimising anything else
  • Verify equivalency requirements on moe.gov.ae rather than relying on a tutoring page

Most Abu Dhabi families arrive at this decision from the wrong end. A Year 11 student is taking eight or nine IGCSE subjects, three or four of them are shaky, and the budget covers one or two hours a week. The instinct is to buy help in the weakest subject. That is often the wrong purchase, because the weakest subject is sometimes weak for reasons an hour a week will not change, while a subject sitting just below a grade boundary can move with very little.

A better triage runs on three questions. First, what does this subject gate? A Mathematics or Science grade that gates a post-16 option is worth more than a grade in a subject the student will drop. Second, how far is the gap? A student two grades below target in a content-heavy subject needs a term; a student half a grade below in a technique-heavy subject may need four sessions. Third, what kind of gap is it? Missing content is slow to fix. Misread command terms, poor working, bad time allocation across a paper, and consistently abandoning the last question are quick to fix, and they are extremely common.

Run that triage honestly and the ordering usually changes. The Ministry of Education's equivalency rule gives a useful floor to protect: for the British track, students must pass five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at no less than grade E or grade 3, with Arabic and Islamic education excluded from that count of five, plus one subject at Advanced Level at grade E or better or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level. That is a floor, not a target, but it tells you which five subjects must not be allowed to fall over while you are busy optimising a sixth.

06

The ethics rule that removes the cheapest option in Abu Dhabi

  • Your child's own school teacher is not an available route in this emirate
  • The private tuition work permit is free and valid for two years
  • Apply or verify through mohre.gov.ae, not through a tutoring intermediary
  • No fine amounts are published; treat any quoted figure with scepticism

A recurring assumption among families new to the emirate is that the cheapest and most effective tutor is the child's own class teacher, privately, after hours. In Abu Dhabi that option is closed. Press reporting on the Department of Education and Knowledge's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff describes a prohibition on teachers providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and the code of conduct attached to the federal private tuition work permit also bars serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school. Treat that as press-reported rather than as a quotation from the policy document, and check the current ADEK publication before relying on the detail.

The permit itself is worth understanding before any money changes hands. Private tuition in the UAE is regulated through a work permit introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, administered by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. It is granted free of charge for two years, and the eligible categories are broad: teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged fifteen to eighteen, and university students. The official route is the Ministry's own service page for private tutor licensing, which lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time.

Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule has been published, so any page quoting an amount is guessing, and this one will not. The practical point for a parent comparing quotes is that a tutor charging well below the market band and unwilling to discuss their permit status is not offering a bargain; they are offering a different risk profile. Asking the question is free and takes one message.

07

What the fee does not include, and the questions that find out

  • Is work marked between sessions, and by the same person who teaches it?
  • Who confirms which specification and tier my child is actually entered for?
  • What written record do I get after each session, and may I see a sample?
  • Is the rate fixed for the term, or does it change closer to the series?
  • What is the cancellation window in hours, and does it apply both ways?
  • Does the tutor hold a current private tuition work permit?

The gap between two Abu Dhabi quotes is often not the rate at all. It is what sits inside the hour and what sits outside it. Marking is the big one: a tutor who marks a set of past-paper answers between sessions is doing an hour of unpaid work that makes the paid hour far more valuable, and a tutor who does not is spending the first twenty minutes of your session finding out what went wrong. Both can quote the same number.

Resources are the second. Nobody should be sending you scanned syllabus documents, mark schemes or past papers as downloads. Those are Cambridge and Pearson copyright, and reproducing them is not something a legitimate provider does. What a good tutor does instead is point you at the official pages on cambridgeinternational.org and qualifications.pearson.com, tell you precisely which document matters for your child's entry, and work from the material the school has already issued. A provider offering a private library of papers is telling you something about how they operate.

The third gap is reporting. Some rates include a written note after each session and a longer review each term; some include nothing you can show a school. For a family spending AED 800 a month, a record of what was covered and what moved is not an administrative extra, it is the only way to tell whether the spending is working. Ask for a sample before the first invoice rather than after the third.

08

When to taper: the exit test for an IGCSE tuition budget

  • Write the exit condition into the plan before the first invoice
  • Three stable timed-paper scores at target is a reduction signal, not a stopping signal
  • Keep a standing slot through the series rather than cancelling and rebooking
  • Fortnightly continuity holds the autumn rate; a spring restart does not

A tuition budget should have an end condition written into it from the beginning, and almost none do. Families start in October with two hours a week and are still paying for two hours a week in April without ever having asked whether one would now do. The absence of an exit test is the single largest avoidable cost in this market, and it is entirely within a parent's control.

Three signals say it is time to reduce. The student is now starting work before the session rather than during it, which means the bottleneck has moved from understanding to practice and practice is cheaper than teaching. Timed paper scores have been stable at or above target across three consecutive attempts, which means the remaining gap is consistency rather than capability. And the questions in the session have changed character, from what does this mean to is this the best way to answer it, which is a sign the student is now self-diagnosing.

Tapering is not stopping. The usual sensible shape is to move from weekly to fortnightly while keeping a standing slot in the weeks before the series, so continuity survives and the rate stays at the autumn level rather than the spring one. Families who cancel outright in February and then try to rebook in April discover the second half of this page's pricing logic the hard way: the hour they let go is the hour that is now scarce. Booking a reduced commitment is cheaper than buying a new one late.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across Abu Dhabi

Where you live in Abu Dhabi changes a visiting quote and does nothing at all to an online one. These are the areas families ask us about most, with the travel reality that sits behind a visiting rate in each.

Khalifa City

Dense in British-curriculum families and a common base for tutors, which keeps visiting quotes nearer the middle of the band. The constraint is the school-run window: a four o'clock start is rarely realistic in term time.

Al Raha Beach and Al Raha Gardens

Close enough to the island for a visiting tutor to accept a single booking, far enough that two bookings in one evening need an hour of slack. Quotes here often assume a 90-minute session to make the trip worth it.

Al Reef

Far enough out that travel becomes the dominant cost in a visiting rate. Families here are routinely quoted at the top of the in-home band, and are the most likely to find the online rate materially cheaper for the same tutor quality.

Al Bateen and Al Khalidiyah

Island addresses with the shortest travel times and the widest tutor choice, so visiting quotes sit lower. Parking and building access still eat ten minutes a session, which is why hourly rates here still carry a visit premium.

Saadiyat Island

Short hop from the island proper but with a villa-and-tower mix that makes access times unpredictable. Quotes tend to assume evening traffic across the bridge rather than the distance itself.

Mohammed Bin Zayed City and Shakhbout City

Large, spread out, and well served by schools, so there is local tutor supply but it clears early. Late-evening slots here attract the firmest premiums of any mainland community.

Yas Island

Bridge-dependent in both directions and busy with weekend traffic, which pushes visiting quotes up on Fridays and Saturdays. Online removes that variable entirely for families who travel at weekends.

Al Shamkha and Al Samha

The outer edge of what a visiting tutor will accept at any price, and the clearest case for live video delivery. Market quotes that do reach out here are usually package-only rather than hourly.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Abu Dhabi

Island and Al Bateen schools

The oldest cluster of British-curriculum provision in the emirate, with established IGCSE cohorts and well-documented subject offers. Families here usually know which board their child sits before they call, which makes a quote easier to give accurately.

  • The British School Al Khubairat
  • Al Bateen Academy
  • Al Muna Academy
  • Abu Dhabi Grammar School
  • Al Mushrif Primary School

Khalifa City, Al Raha and Yas corridor

Where most of the emirate's newer British and international capacity sits, and where the largest share of IGCSE tuition enquiries originate. Subject offers vary noticeably between schools in this corridor, which is why a scarcity premium on one subject can differ street to street.

  • Al Yasmina Academy
  • Cranleigh Abu Dhabi
  • Repton Abu Dhabi
  • GEMS American Academy Abu Dhabi
  • West Yas Academy
  • Raha International School

Mainland and mixed-curriculum communities

Schools serving Mohammed Bin Zayed City, Mussafah, Baniyas and the newer southern communities, with a broader spread of curricula and a higher proportion of Core-tier entries. Travel distances here are what make the visiting market expensive.

  • GEMS Cambridge International School Abu Dhabi
  • Brighton College Abu Dhabi

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the entry, not just the subject

The useful first message names the board, the syllabus code if you have it, the tier and the year group: Cambridge 0580 Extended, Year 11, sitting in the June series. That is enough to price the request accurately and to say honestly whether the scarce subjects on your list have availability in the slot you want.

  2. 02

A free 45-minute trial lesson, no card details

One trial lesson with the proposed tutor, 45 minutes, at no charge and with no payment details collected. The trial is a working session on your child's actual material, not a sales call, and it ends with a written note on what the tutor thinks the gap is and roughly how many sessions it represents.

  3. 03

A written plan with a price and an end point

Before any money changes hands you get the slot, the rate, the cancellation window and a view on how long this should take. The plan names what will be marked between sessions and what written record you will receive, so the invoice and the deliverable match from the first week.

  4. 04

Weekly sessions with work marked in between

Lessons are one-to-one over live video at a fixed Gulf Standard Time slot. Work is set and marked between sessions so the paid hour is spent on what went wrong rather than on finding out. Nobody travels to an Abu Dhabi address, so no travel is priced into the rate.

  5. 05

A review at six sessions against the exit test

At the six-session mark we look at timed-paper scores, the marked work and the student's own account of the sessions, and give a direct view: continue, change tutor, change subject priority, or reduce. Recommending fewer hours is a normal outcome of that review and not a failure of it.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Every figure here belongs to the market, with its source named

The AED bands on this page come from published competitor pricing and from Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 rate table, and they are presented as the market you are shopping in rather than as our price list. Three of the six best-ranking pages in this search publish no price at all; two quote in US dollars.

Travel is not hidden inside the rate

A visiting hour in Abu Dhabi contains a car journey whether or not the invoice itemises it, and for Al Reef, Al Shamkha or Al Samha addresses that journey can be the largest single cost in the quote. Live video delivery removes it rather than disguising it, which is why the online band sits below the visiting band everywhere in the published data.

Subject scarcity is priced openly rather than averaged away

Providers who quote one flat rate for all subjects are either overcharging for Mathematics or underpaying whoever teaches Arabic first language and Additional Mathematics. We say which subjects are scarce in this emirate and what that does to availability, so a family can book the hard subject early and shop around on the easy one.

The coursework boundary is stated, not implied

A tutor teaches the skill, reviews a draft the student has written themselves and gives feedback that the student then acts on. No part of an assessed folder is supplied by the tutor, and no finished work changes hands in either direction. That line is an IB and Cambridge academic-honesty requirement and it is also the difference between tuition and an essay service.

The permit question is answered rather than avoided

Private tuition in the UAE runs on a work permit introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, free for two years through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. We point parents at the official service page and say plainly that no fine schedule has been published, rather than repeating an unverified figure.

An exit test, written down at the start

Every plan carries the conditions under which we would recommend reducing or stopping. A provider whose commercial interest runs one way should put the opposite case in writing at the beginning, and a family that knows what success looks like can stop paying for it when it arrives.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Abu Dhabi: your questions answered

What does an IGCSE home tutor in Abu Dhabi charge per hour?+

The published market for this region spans roughly AED 45 to AED 650 an hour. Budget and university-student tutors advertise from around AED 33 to AED 65; qualified subject tutors working online start near AED 150 and run to about AED 300; visiting one-to-one work sits at roughly AED 180 to AED 350 on Bestimate's 2026 rate table, with independent home tutors quoting up to AED 500; premium named tutors reach AED 650. Those are market figures with their sources named, not IB Gram prices. Where your own quote lands inside that range depends on the subject, the tier, the year group, the slot and whether anyone drives.

Why is the quote for Additional Maths higher than the quote for Biology?+

Supply. Cambridge IGCSE Biology is taught by a large number of credible tutors in and available to this market, so no one of them can hold out for a premium. Additional Mathematics 0606 moves into calculus and advanced trigonometry, far fewer people teach it confidently to IGCSE standard, and those who do have limited hours to sell. The rate difference reflects scarcity rather than a judgement about which subject is harder for your child. The practical consequence is worth acting on: shop around on Biology, and book the Additional Mathematics slot early at the going rate rather than hunting for a discount that does not exist.

Is a monthly package cheaper than paying for single IGCSE sessions?+

Only if every session is used. Packages circulating in this market run at around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions, which is just under AED 100 a session if all eight happen. Lose two to illness, travel or a mock week, which is an ordinary month in Year 11, and the effective rate rises by roughly a third. The questions that decide it are whether unused sessions roll over, what expiry applies, and what the cancellation window is in hours. A package with rollover and a short notice period is usually good value; one with strict expiry transfers the risk of a disrupted month to you.

Does an Abu Dhabi tutoring fee include VAT?+

Ask the provider directly and get the answer in writing, because the treatment of tuition fees under UAE tax rules is not something a tutoring page should assert as fact. What a parent can reasonably require is clarity about the quote in front of them: whether the AED figure stated is the amount that will be charged, whether any tax is added at invoice, and whether the provider holds a tax registration number. The Federal Tax Authority is the authority on the underlying treatment. Any provider who cannot say plainly whether the number they quoted is the number you pay has told you something useful about their billing.

How much of a home tutor's fee is actually travel?+

For an Abu Dhabi address it is frequently the largest single component. Compare the two published bands: visiting one-to-one at roughly AED 180 to AED 350 an hour against qualified online work from about AED 150. The gap is not teaching quality, since it is often the same calibre of tutor; it is a car, a bridge and an evening that can hold only one booking instead of two. For families in Al Reef, Al Ghadeer, Al Shamkha or Al Samha the effect is at its strongest, because a tutor accepting a single booking that far out loses the rest of the evening to driving.

Can my child's own school teacher tutor him privately in Abu Dhabi?+

No. Verify the current wording against the ADEK policy document before relying on the detail. The practical answer for a parent is that this apparently cheap and convenient route is not available in this emirate, and a teacher who offers it is accepting a professional risk on your child's behalf.

How many tutoring hours a week should I budget for Year 11?+

One hour a week per subject, in at most two subjects, is where most Abu Dhabi families should start, with work marked between sessions. Three or four hours a week across four subjects sounds more serious and usually produces less, because the student has no time left to do the practice the sessions set. The exception is a short pre-series block in the weeks before the exams, where two or three sessions a week on timed papers is justified for a student whose content knowledge is sound but whose technique is not. Budget for the block in autumn, when the rate is still negotiable.

Do tutoring fees rise in the weeks before the June series?+

Effectively, yes. The headline rate on a provider's page may not change, but the availability behind it does, and what a family is quoted in March for work in May reflects that. Tutors who can teach scarce subjects are already timetabled by then, so what remains is either a less experienced tutor at the same price or a specialist at the top of the band. Families who book in September and keep a standing slot pay the autumn rate all year. Families who cancel in February and rebook in April discover the difference. Continuity is a pricing strategy as much as an academic one.

What should I ask before agreeing a tutoring rate?+

Six questions settle almost everything. Is work marked between sessions, and by the person who teaches it? Who confirms which specification and tier my child is entered for? What written record do I get after each session, and may I see a sample? Is the rate fixed for the term? What is the cancellation window in hours, and does it apply to the tutor as well as to us? Does the tutor hold a current private tuition work permit? A provider who answers all six in writing is quoting a service. One who answers none is quoting a number.

Is a cheaper university-student tutor a false economy for IGCSE?+

Not automatically, and it depends on the job. A capable university student is a reasonable buy for drilling practice, checking method on routine questions and keeping a Year 10 student working steadily, and the published band for that work starts near AED 45 an hour. What they generally cannot do is read a marked script diagnostically, explain why a technically correct answer scored two out of four against a specific mark scheme, or judge whether a tier entry is right. If the gap is technique and examiner expectation rather than practice volume, the cheaper hour buys activity rather than movement.

Can two siblings share one paid hour?+

It can work, with conditions, and it is usually a worse buy than it looks. Two students in the same subject and the same year group with similar gaps can share a session productively. Two students a year apart, or in different subjects, cannot: the hour becomes thirty minutes each with a handover, and both pay attention for half of it. A better use of the same budget is often one shared 90-minute session where the tutor sets independent work for one student while teaching the other in turn. Ask for that structure explicitly rather than assuming it.

What happens to the fee if we cancel a session on the same day?+

That depends entirely on the written cancellation window, which is why it belongs in the plan before the first invoice. A reasonable arrangement states a notice period in hours, applies it to both sides, and says what happens to the slot: rescheduled within the week, credited, or charged. Package sessions are usually less flexible than hourly bookings because the provider has committed the tutor's time for the block. For a family with sport, travel or moving mock weeks, a short notice window has a real cash value and is worth more than a small discount on the rate.

Does a free trial lesson commit me to anything?+

Ours does not. The trial is one 45-minute session with the proposed tutor, at no charge, with no card or payment details collected and no obligation to continue. It runs on your child's actual material rather than a generic assessment, and it ends with a written note on what the tutor thinks the gap is and roughly how many sessions it represents. If the answer is that tuition is not the right purchase, that is a legitimate outcome of a trial. Ask any provider offering a trial to state the length, the eligibility and the payment requirement before you book it.

At what point should we stop paying for IGCSE tuition?+

When three things are true at once: the student starts the work before the session rather than during it, timed paper scores have been at or above target across three consecutive attempts, and the questions in the session have shifted from what does this mean to is this the best way to answer it. At that point the bottleneck is practice, and practice is cheaper than teaching. The sensible move is tapering rather than stopping: fortnightly sessions with a standing slot through the series keeps continuity and holds the rate you agreed in autumn.

Why does an online IGCSE hour cost less than a visiting hour in Abu Dhabi?+

Because nobody drives. A visiting tutor who accepts a six o'clock booking in Al Raha cannot take an eight o'clock in Al Bateen, so the price of that single hour has to cover an evening. The published bands show the effect: in-home one-to-one at roughly AED 180 to AED 350 against qualified online work from about AED 150. IB Gram does not send a tutor to an Abu Dhabi address at all, since home visits are a service we run only in India, and every UAE session runs one-to-one over live video at a fixed Gulf Standard Time slot. The saving is structural, not a discount.

Price the six factors, then decide what you are buying

An IGCSE tuition quote in Abu Dhabi is readable once it is broken into subject scarcity, tier, year group, slot time, board and travel. Price those six separately and the difference between AED 120 and AED 480 stops being a mystery and starts being a choice. Tell us the board, the syllabus code, the tier and the year group, and we will say honestly what the market charges for that request, whether the scarce subjects on your list have availability in the slot you want, and what we think the gap actually is. The trial lesson runs 45 minutes, at no charge, with no card details taken, and lessons are delivered one-to-one over live video.
