Cambridge IGCSE Economics 0455 Tutor in Abu Dhabi

Hiring a Cambridge IGCSE Economics 0455 tutor in Abu Dhabi is not really hiring lessons. It is buying marked extended answers, because seventy per cent of this grade comes from one structured paper and the marks that separate a middling grade from a strong one are evaluation marks. This page prices the work by what you ask for, in AED. Lessons run one-to-one over live video, and the first is free.

  • Costed by the task: teaching, diagram drill, essay marking, full mock
  • Published AED bands with the month they were collected
  • Evaluation marks taught as a structure, not as a style
  • Diagrams marked for accuracy and for being referred to

IB & IGCSE in Abu Dhabi

Price this subject by the marking, because that is what you are buying

Economics is unusual among IGCSE subjects in that the content is not the hard part. A reasonably attentive student can learn what a subsidy does and how a central bank raises interest rates in a term. What takes two years is writing about it in the form the mark scheme pays for: define, explain the mechanism, use a diagram, then evaluate with a judgement that follows from the argument rather than from an opinion. That writing has to be produced and marked, repeatedly, and that is what a family is actually purchasing.

This matters for the money question because most tutoring is sold as teaching time, and for 0455 the limiting input is marking turnaround. An hour spent explaining price elasticity has some value. An hour spent reading the student's own twenty-mark answer against the criteria, naming where the evaluation marks were available and were not taken, and then watching them rewrite one paragraph, has much more. A family who understands that will buy a different package, and usually a cheaper one.

Here are the market figures first, since almost nobody in this search result publishes any. UAE providers' own published rates in October 2026 run roughly AED 45 to 150 an hour at the budget and university-student end, AED 150 to 300 for a qualified subject tutor online, AED 200 to 450 and above for an IGCSE or A-Level specialist, and AED 180 to 500 for an in-home visit once travel is priced in. Premium named tutors are advertised up to around AED 650. Those are other providers' numbers from their own pages, not IB Gram's price list, which is discussed on the consultation after a free trial.

There are no in-home visits in the UAE — that part of the service exists only in India — so every Abu Dhabi session is delivered online over live video, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time. For a writing subject this removes the travel premium entirely, and it also means a student's answers can be submitted, annotated and returned as files that a family keeps rather than as a page handed back and lost in a school bag.

The rest of this page is organised around cost: what the papers demand and therefore what has to be bought, what the different kinds of work are worth, what moves the number in this emirate specifically, and what tutoring sits alongside in a household already paying private school fees. The aim is that you can price any provider's offer, including this one, before making a single enquiry, and that you know which two questions separate quotes that look identical on paper.

One framing note before the detail. Nothing here is a statement about what your child will achieve. No tutor can see the paper, the boundaries or the day, and any provider attaching a grade to a price is selling something other than teaching. What a price can honestly buy is a number of marked extended answers, returned quickly, with the available marks named. Whether that moves a grade depends on what the student does with them between sessions.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

What families buy at each stage of the 0455 course, and roughly how the spend distributes across the two years.

Y9Ages 13-14 · Year 9

Year 9, before the option is taken

Economics is chosen in Year 9 by students who have never studied it, often because it sounds useful. One or two sessions on a real structured question establish whether a student is willing to write six or seven extended answers a term. Those who are not tend to produce the most expensive Year 11 of any option subject.

Abu Dhabi option evenings frequently present Economics alongside Business Studies as interchangeable. They are not: Business rewards applied case-study judgement, Economics rewards abstract mechanism plus diagrams. A single trial question answers the question a brochure cannot.

Y10Ages 14-15 · Year 10

Year 10, where the writing habit is cheap to build

The lowest-cost arrangement that works is fortnightly marking through Year 10: the student writes one extended answer, the tutor marks it against the criteria, and one paragraph is rebuilt in the session. Around twenty pieces across the year, at the quieter end of the market, usually removes the need for an intensive Year 11 block.

The emirate's long mid-year break and the compressed Ramadan term interrupt written practice more than they interrupt reading. Families who keep one short piece of marking running through those weeks avoid paying again in September for ground they had already covered.

Y11Ages 15-16 · Year 11

Year 11, the expensive year

Weekly marking plus data-response practice from September, moving to full structured papers after the mock. Expect around thirty marked pieces. The rate is higher in this window because demand for specialists peaks before a June series, and a family starting in January buys more hours at a worse price from a worse position.

Abu Dhabi centres sit the June series with entries closed months before. Evening specialist availability in the emirate tightens from February, so a fixed autumn slot is a cost decision as much as an academic one.

POST16Ages 16-18 · Years 12-13

After 0455: Diploma Economics, A-Level and retakes

A 0455 grade leads naturally into Diploma Programme Economics or A-Level Economics, and the step up is almost entirely in evaluation and in the volume of writing rather than in new content. Retake candidates are usually a short, cheap block: the content is known and the structured answers are not yet earning the upper-band marks.

Private candidates in the emirate may sit at a Cambridge exam centre where their school does not enter them, and centres charge entry fees separately from tutoring. Budget for both, and confirm the entry deadline before buying any teaching hours.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Subjects taken alongside 0455 in Abu Dhabi schools, and how each affects the marking load a family ends up funding.

Cambridge IGCSE Business Studies (0450)

Single tier

The subject Economics is most often confused with at option time. Business rewards applied judgement on a case study; Economics rewards abstract mechanism and diagrams. Students taking both carry a heavy extended-writing load, which is the real cost consideration.

Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics (0580)

Core and Extended

Connected through the data-response question, which asks for percentage change, index numbers and trend description. Students shaky on these lose Section A marks that a short maths block fixes more cheaply than more Economics does.

Cambridge IGCSE English as a First Language (0500)

Single tier

The partner subject for the structured paper. Students who lose Economics marks for vague, unsequenced explanations are losing them to expression, and English marking sometimes buys Economics marks at a lower price than Economics marking does.

Cambridge IGCSE Geography (0460)

Single tier

Shares the data-description skill and the development content. Geography students usually arrive comfortable with the Section A data question and need their hours spent on the evaluation marks in Section B instead.

Cambridge IGCSE History (0470)

Single tier

Builds argument and evidence discipline, which transfers directly to the discussion parts of a structured question. History candidates often evaluate well and define loosely, which is the opposite profile from most Economics students.

Cambridge IGCSE Computer Science (0478)

Single tier

A common pairing for students heading towards technology or finance. It needs fewer but more technical hours than Economics, so the two sit together reasonably well in a budget that cannot stretch to two writing-heavy subjects.

Cambridge IGCSE Accounting (0452)

Single tier

Taken by students aiming at finance routes. Its demands are procedural rather than discursive, which makes it a cheaper subject to support per hour and a sensible companion to a marking-heavy subject like Economics.

Cambridge IGCSE Arabic as a First Language (0508)

Single tier

Carried by a large share of Abu Dhabi students at the same time. Two extended-writing subjects in two languages is a genuine workload, and a revision plan that does not name both is one the student will stop following.

Cambridge IGCSE Global Perspectives (0457)

Single tier

Research and argument writing with a defined structure. It gives low-stakes practice at the evaluate-and-judge move that the final parts of Economics structured questions reward, which is useful and free.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three arrangements for 0455, described by what they cost in marked pieces rather than in hours. All are one-to-one over live video.

Fortnightly marking through Year 10

The cheapest arrangement that produces movement. The student writes one extended answer every two weeks, the tutor marks it against the criteria, and the session is spent rebuilding one paragraph and setting the next question. Roughly twenty marked pieces across the year, bought at the quieter autumn and winter end of the market.

  • About twenty marked extended answers across the year
  • One paragraph rebuilt live, with the student writing
  • Evaluation marks identified separately on every piece
  • Booked at the pre-February rate rather than the peak one

Weekly marking plus data response, Year 11

The common Year 11 shape. One extended answer and one data-response question each week, both marked, with full structured papers after the January mock. Around thirty marked pieces. The hourly rate is higher in this window because specialist availability tightens before a June series.

  • An extended answer and a data question every week
  • Full structured papers under time from the spring
  • Diagrams marked for accuracy and for being used in the prose
  • Lost marks sorted by cause: definition, mechanism, diagram, evaluation

Evaluation-only block

Six to eight sessions for the student who knows the content, defines terms correctly and still sits in the middle of the range. The whole block targets the upper-band discussion marks: making a judgement that follows from the analysis, weighing two effects, and saying what the answer depends on. The cheapest useful intervention for a near-miss candidate.

  • Six to eight sessions, scope agreed in writing
  • Every piece a discussion part, nothing else
  • A re-test on comparable questions at the end
  • No rolling commitment once the block closes

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Abu Dhabi

01

The two papers, and why one of them decides the grade

Cambridge IGCSE Economics is assessed by two papers. The first is a multiple-choice paper of forty-five minutes carrying thirty marks and thirty per cent of the grade. The second is a structured paper of two hours fifteen minutes carrying ninety marks and seventy per cent. Section A of that paper is a compulsory data-response question worth thirty marks; Section B offers four structured questions of which the candidate answers three, each worth twenty marks.

That distribution tells you where the money goes. A candidate who performs well on multiple choice and poorly on structured answers is losing from the large pool, and no amount of content revision changes that, because the content was already known. A candidate who is weak on multiple choice is usually weak on definitions, which is cheap and quick to fix. Diagnosing which of the two you are dealing with takes one past paper and an hour of marking.

Inside a twenty-mark structured question the marks are distributed across parts, with the earlier parts asking for definitions and explanations and the later parts asking for discussion or analysis. The upper-band marks sit almost entirely in those later parts. Students reach them with ten minutes left, write two sentences of opinion, and lose a quarter of the available marks on the paper while believing the answer went reasonably well.

Confirm the paper structure, timings and weightings for your child's exam year on the Cambridge International website. Syllabuses are revised on a cycle and a second-hand revision guide may describe a different arrangement, which is a real and avoidable source of wasted preparation.

Evaluation: the marks that separate a middling grade from a strong one

  • Two effects pulling in opposite directions, named explicitly
  • What the net outcome depends on: elasticity, time, scale, context
  • A judgement that follows from the dependency, not from preference
  • Time rationed by mark allocation and rehearsed on whole papers
  • Short definitions, so the discussion part is actually reached

Ask a 0455 candidate in the middle of the range what they find hard and they will usually say the long questions. Ask what they do in them and the answer is revealing: they explain, thoroughly and correctly, and then stop. The explanation earns the lower and middle band marks. The upper band asks for something structurally different, and it can be taught as a structure rather than coaxed out as a style.

The move has three parts. First, identify two effects that pull in opposite directions — the policy helps producers and hurts consumers, the tariff protects employment and raises prices. Second, say what the net outcome depends on: elasticity, the time period, the size of the change, the state of the economy. Third, reach a judgement that follows from the second part rather than from a preference. A student who writes those three things in that order earns the discussion marks almost regardless of how elegant the prose is.

The second reliable gain is time. Candidates reach the discussion part with ten minutes remaining because the earlier parts were over-written. A definition worth two marks does not need a paragraph. Rationing time by the mark allocation, rehearsed on full papers rather than discussed in principle, recovers upper-band marks that the student was fully capable of earning and never reached.

This is also where marking turnaround earns its money. A discussion paragraph read against the criteria, with the available marks pointed out and the structure named, teaches more in fifteen minutes than an hour of general advice about writing. Which is why the honest unit of cost for this subject is the marked piece rather than the lesson.

03

Diagrams: drawn wrong, or drawn right and never used

Economics diagrams are among the cheapest marks in the Cambridge suite and among the most reliably lost. There are perhaps eight or nine a 0455 candidate needs to be able to draw without hesitating: demand and supply with a shift, a price ceiling and a floor, elasticity cases, external costs and benefits, and the basic macroeconomic picture. That is a finite list, which makes it a drill rather than a topic.

Two failure modes account for nearly all the losses. The first is mechanical: axes unlabelled or labelled with the wrong variable, no original equilibrium marked, a shift drawn without an arrow or a new label, a new equilibrium left unidentified. Each of those is a lost mark on a diagram the student essentially understood. Ten minutes a week of drawing against a checklist clears it in a month.

The second is subtler and costs more. A candidate draws a correct diagram and then writes a paragraph that never refers to it. The diagram sits on the page as decoration. Marks for diagrams are earned when the prose points at them: name the shift, name the movement from one equilibrium to the other, say what happened to price and quantity. The habit to install is a sentence that begins by referring to the figure, every time.

On a screen this work is straightforward. The student draws on paper and holds it up, or draws on a shared whiteboard, and the tutor annotates the labels that are missing while both watch. The annotated version is saved with the marked answer, so the checklist becomes a record rather than a piece of advice.

04

What it costs, by what you ask the tutor to do

A single hourly rate is a poor way to price this subject, because the five things a family might ask for have very different value and very different turnaround. The table below separates them, with AED figures drawn from the published market bands collected in October 2026 rather than from IB Gram's own pricing, which is discussed after a free trial lesson.

The pattern worth noticing is that the cheapest tasks and the most valuable tasks are not the same tasks. Content teaching is the easiest thing to buy and the least likely to move a near-miss candidate, because the content was usually not the problem. Marking extended answers is harder to buy, because it requires somebody who knows the criteria, and it is what moves a grade from the middle band upwards.

Two questions separate comparable-looking quotes. Does the figure include marking of work done between sessions, or only time in the lesson? And what is the turnaround — an answer marked within two days while the question is still fresh is worth considerably more than the same marking returned in a fortnight. Providers rarely volunteer either answer, and both change the real price per unit of value.

On tax, ask the provider directly whether their quoted AED figure is inclusive, and get it in writing. The UAE treatment of tuition fees is a matter for the Federal Tax Authority rather than for any tutoring site, including this one, and two quotes are only comparable once you know what each includes and how long a session actually runs.

Using the UAE economy in answers, and why it earns marks

Structured questions ask candidates to apply ideas, and an answer anchored in a real economy the student knows is almost always sharper than one built on an invented country. Students in Abu Dhabi have a particularly rich set of examples available, and almost none of them use it, because nobody has pointed out that they may.

The obvious material is economic diversification: an economy with substantial hydrocarbon revenues deliberately building tourism, logistics, financial services and manufacturing is a live illustration of structural change, opportunity cost and the problem of relying on a single export. Development questions about the structure of an economy, and trade questions about export concentration, both land naturally here.

There is more. An expatriate-majority labour market is a usable example in questions about labour supply, migration and wage determination. Free-zone arrangements illustrate incentives, foreign direct investment and the trade-off between revenue and attracting activity. The introduction of value added tax is a concrete instance of an indirect tax and its incidence. Private school fees themselves are a workable example of a market with inelastic demand, which students find memorable for obvious reasons.

Two rules keep this safe. Use the mechanism, not a statistic: an unsourced number is worth nothing and risks being wrong, while a correctly explained mechanism earns the mark regardless. And keep the example subordinate to the economics — examiners reward the analysis the example supports, not the local knowledge itself. A paragraph that explains incidence correctly and mentions an indirect tax in passing beats a paragraph of local colour with no theory in it.

06

Tutoring cost in context for an Abu Dhabi household

Families rarely ask whether tutoring is expensive in the abstract. They ask whether it is a sensible addition to what they already pay for school. The table below puts the published tutoring bands beside the other costs attached to a Cambridge course, so the comparison is explicit rather than implied.

Some context on the market those fees sit in. Dubai's private school sector served 387,441 students across 227 private schools in 2024-25, offering seventeen different curricula, with UK curriculum schools taking 37 per cent of students, Indian 26, US 14 and the International Baccalaureate 7. The Knowledge and Human Development Authority confirmed in May 2026 that there would be no increase in private school fees in that emirate for 2026-27, under an economic incentives package. Abu Dhabi regulates its own fees through its own authority, so neither figure is a statement about this emirate — they are the nearest published anchors available, and they are Dubai's.

Against that backdrop the arithmetic is usually straightforward. Published monthly estimates for weekly one-hour sessions in the UAE market run around AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle, and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. Monthly packages advertised include roughly AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home sessions, the gap between those two being largely travel.

The expense that catches families out is not the hourly rate; it is duration. An open-ended weekly arrangement running from September to June at a specialist rate is a significant annual commitment, and much of it is often spent on content the student already knew. A block with a stated number of marked pieces and an end point costs less, is easier to judge, and can always be renewed.

After 0455: the Diploma, A-Level and the equivalency question

A 0455 grade leads in three directions, and knowing which one a student is heading for changes what is worth paying for now. Diploma Programme Economics and A-Level Economics both demand substantially more evaluation and a much larger volume of writing, so a student continuing with the subject gets more value from marking hours in Year 11 than from content coverage. A student stopping at IGCSE needs the grade and nothing more, which argues for a shorter, sharper block.

The transition itself is specific enough to plan. The content overlap between 0455 and either post-16 course is considerable: the basic economic problem, allocation of resources, microeconomic decision makers, government and the macroeconomy, development, trade and globalisation all reappear with more depth. What is new is the quantity of judgement expected and, in the Diploma, the internal assessment, which is the student's own work and must remain so.

On university equivalency, the published British-track rule from the Ministry of Education asks for five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates with a grade of no less than E or grade 3, plus one accredited subject at Advanced Level with a grade of no less than E, or two accredited subjects at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are not counted among the five. An Economics grade can be one of them. One competitor ranking in this market publishes a different subject count; the published rule is five.

Private schools in Abu Dhabi are supervised by the Department of Education and Knowledge, which handles licensing and accreditation in the emirate, while Dubai, Sharjah, Ras Al Khaimah and the remaining emirates have their own arrangements. Alongside the Cambridge options, schools must cover Arabic language, social studies and Islamic studies, with prescribed content supplied by the school. IB Gram holds no accreditation, licence or partnership from ADEK, the Ministry of Education or Cambridge International, takes no part in the equivalency process, and nobody should suggest tutoring is required for it.

Where we tutor

What 0455 support costs across Abu Dhabi, and why the area stops mattering

In-home quotes vary by area because travel is priced in. Online rates do not vary at all, which is the clearest cost argument in a spread-out emirate. These are the communities enquiries come from.

Khalifa City

Long drives from the island schools make in-home quotes here the most heavily travel-loaded in the emirate. Removing the journey is worth more than shopping between providers, which is why most mainland Economics enquiries now ask about online sessions first.

Al Reem Island

Dense towers where a visiting tutor can see several students in one evening, so local in-home rates are comparatively keen. Even so, the specialist pool for a writing subject is thin enough that online widens the choice considerably.

Saadiyat Island

Villa community with longer commutes for some schools. Families here commonly use one weekday marking session plus a longer weekend slot for a full structured paper, which costs less than a single in-home visit of the same total length.

Al Raha and Al Raha Gardens

Short school runs, so early slots hold through the year and marked pieces get written when the student is not exhausted. Predictable school pacing also means fewer emergency hours, which is the quietest saving available.

Yas Island and West Yas

Newer cohorts with frequent mid-course arrivals. A student who joined 0455 in Year 11 may never have been taught the structure of a twenty-mark answer, which is a defined block of work rather than an open-ended commitment.

Al Reef and Al Shamkha

Outer communities where a round trip to a tuition centre consumes an evening. Short, frequent online marking sessions are only viable because nothing is being driven anywhere, and frequency is what builds writing fluency.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Abu Dhabi

Mainland corridor — Khalifa City, Al Raha, Yas

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send one structured answer and its mark

A photograph of a marked twenty-mark answer tells a specialist more than any description of how your child finds Economics. The mark distribution across the parts usually shows immediately whether definitions, mechanism, diagrams or evaluation is the costly one.

  2. 02

Take the free trial, one per student

A full session at no charge, no card details taken, no obligation afterwards. Use it to have one extended answer marked against the criteria rather than to discuss approach, so that a dated script exists before anything is paid for.

  3. 03

    Ask what the figure includes

Specifically: does it cover marking of work written between sessions, what is the turnaround, is the figure per hour or per session, and how long is a session. In this subject the marking is most of the value, so a quote without those answers is not comparable to another quote.

  4. 04

Buy a block with an end point

A stated number of marked pieces and a scope taken from a marked paper. Open-ended weekly arrangements from September to June are where the budget disappears, usually into content the student already knew. A block can always be renewed; an endless arrangement is hard to shorten.

  5. 05

Write between sessions, not during them

The student produces the extended answer alone, under time, and brings it. Session time goes on marking it, naming the available marks that were not taken, and rebuilding one paragraph. An hour watching a tutor model an answer teaches far less than an hour on the student's own.

  6. 06

Read the marks by part, halfway through

Halfway through a block, look at how marks are distributed across the parts of each answer rather than at the totals. If the discussion parts are still empty, change the target or the tutor rather than renewing at the same rate.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Priced by the work, not by the hour

Content teaching, definition drilling, data-response practice, extended-answer marking and full papers have different values and different turnarounds. Separating them lets a family buy what their child actually needs instead of a single undifferentiated hourly rate.

A published AED band

Three of the six top-ranking pages in this market publish no price at all and two of the rest quote in dollars. The bands here come from providers' own rate pages with the collection month stated, so a parent can compare before making an enquiry.

Evaluation taught as a structure

Two opposing effects, what the outcome depends on, then a judgement that follows. Written in that order, the upper-band discussion marks are reachable by an ordinary writer, which is a different proposition from being told to be more analytical.

Diagrams marked twice

Once for accuracy — axes, original equilibrium, shift, new equilibrium — and once for whether the prose actually refers to them. A correct diagram nobody mentions is decoration, and this is among the cheapest sets of marks in the syllabus to recover.

Travel priced out

In-home visits in this emirate are quoted at AED 180 to 500 an hour and a real share of that is the drive. There are no in-home visits in the UAE from IB Gram, so the saving either buys a scarcer specialist or stays with the family.

No claims you cannot check

No grade promises, no examiner status asserted without evidence, no regulator approval implied, and no statistic without its source and date. IB Gram holds no accreditation from ADEK, the Ministry of Education or Cambridge International, and the page says so.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Abu Dhabi: your questions answered

How much does a Cambridge IGCSE Economics 0455 tutor cost in Abu Dhabi?+

Published UAE rates collected in October 2026 run roughly AED 45 to 150 an hour for budget or university-student online tutoring, AED 150 to 300 for a qualified subject tutor online, AED 200 to 450 and above for an IGCSE or A-Level specialist, and AED 180 to 500 for an in-home visit once travel is priced in. For this subject the figure matters less than what it covers: ask whether marking of extended answers written between sessions is included, and what the turnaround is. Those are other providers' published figures, not ours.

Why is seventy per cent of the grade on one paper, and what does that mean for spending?+

The structured paper carries ninety of the available marks and runs two hours fifteen minutes, with a compulsory thirty-mark data-response question and three structured questions of twenty marks each chosen from four. The multiple-choice paper carries thirty marks in forty-five minutes. So most of the grade is produced by extended writing, which means most of the budget should buy marking of extended writing. Content revision addresses the smaller pool and is usually not where a middling candidate is losing marks.

My child knows the content but sits in the middle of the range. What is missing?+

Almost always the discussion marks at the end of each structured question. Candidates explain thoroughly and then stop, which earns the lower and middle bands. The upper band wants a different structure: name two effects pulling in opposite directions, say what the net outcome depends on — elasticity, time period, scale, the state of the economy — and then give a judgement that follows from that. Written in that order it is reachable by an ordinary writer, and six to eight marked pieces usually install it.

What is the cheapest intervention that actually moves a 0455 grade?+

For a near-miss candidate, an evaluation-only block of six to eight sessions scoped from a marked paper, with a re-test on comparable questions at the end. It is cheap because it is narrow and because it targets the marks the student was already capable of earning. For a Year 10 student, fortnightly marking of one extended answer is cheaper still and usually removes the need for an intensive Year 11 block altogether, which is the real saving.

Are diagram marks worth paying attention to?+

They are among the cheapest marks in the syllabus and among the most reliably lost. There are only eight or nine diagrams a 0455 candidate needs to draw without hesitating, which makes it a drill rather than a topic. Marks go missing in two ways: mechanically, through unlabelled axes, no original equilibrium or an unmarked new one; and through a correct diagram that the written answer never refers to. Ten minutes a week against a checklist clears the first within a month.

Is an in-home Economics tutor worth the extra cost?+

For a marking-led subject the case is weak. Extended answers are documents, so they can be submitted, annotated against the criteria and returned as files a family keeps, which is more useful than a page handed back in a school bag. In-home visits in this emirate are quoted between AED 180 and 500 an hour, with the drive forming part of that. There are no in-home visits in the UAE from IB Gram; that service runs only in India, and Abu Dhabi lessons are delivered online.

How many marked pieces should we budget for across Year 11?+

Around thirty for a weekly arrangement from September, with full structured papers added after the January mock. Starting after that mock compresses the same work into five months at the point when specialist availability in Abu Dhabi is tightest, which costs more in both hours and rate. A Year 10 fortnightly arrangement is about twenty marked pieces, bought at the quieter end of the market, and it is the better value by a wide margin.

Can my child use UAE examples in their answers?+

Yes, and it usually sharpens an answer. Economic diversification away from hydrocarbon revenue illustrates structural change and export concentration. An expatriate-majority labour market is usable in questions on labour supply and wages. Free zones illustrate investment incentives, and value added tax is a concrete indirect tax for incidence questions. Two rules: use the mechanism rather than a statistic, since an unsourced number earns nothing, and keep the example subordinate to the economics, because the analysis is what is marked.

Should we choose Economics or Business Studies?+

They are marked for different things, and schools often present them as interchangeable. Business rewards applied judgement on a case study with a recommendation. Economics rewards abstract mechanism, diagrams and evaluation of policy. A student who likes concrete decisions tends to prefer Business; one who likes explaining why a market behaves as it does tends to prefer Economics. One or two sessions on a real structured question in Year 9 answers it far better than an option-evening description.

Does the quoted price include marking work written between sessions?+

Ask, because for this subject it is most of the value. A twenty-mark answer read against the criteria, with the available marks pointed out and the structure named, teaches more in fifteen minutes than an hour of general advice about analytical writing. Some providers include that in the session rate, some bill it separately, and some do not mark between sessions at all. Two quotes with the same hourly number are not the same offer if one of them includes this and the other does not.

How quickly should marked work come back?+

Within two days, while the student still remembers the decisions they made writing it. Marking returned a fortnight later is read as a verdict rather than as feedback, and the student has usually written another answer in the meantime with the same fault in it. Turnaround is a question worth asking any provider and one almost none volunteer. It changes the real value of the same hourly rate considerably, which is why it belongs in a price comparison.

Is value added tax included in the rates quoted by UAE tutors?+

Ask the provider directly and get the answer in writing before committing to a block. The tax treatment of tuition in the UAE is a matter for the Federal Tax Authority, not for a tutoring website, including this one. What matters practically is comparability: two quotes mean nothing side by side until you know whether each is inclusive, whether the figure is per hour or per session, and how long a session actually runs in minutes.

How does tutoring spend compare with what we already pay for school?+

Published monthly estimates for weekly one-hour sessions in the UAE market run around AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle, and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support, against private school fees that run into the tens of thousands per year. The expense that catches families out is duration rather than rate: an open-ended arrangement from September to June at a specialist rate adds up, and much of it is often spent on content the student already knew.

Does a 0455 grade count towards UAE equivalency?+

The published British-track requirement asks for five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates with a grade of no less than E or grade 3, plus one accredited subject at Advanced Level with a grade of no less than E, or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are excluded from the five. An Economics grade can be one of them. One ranking competitor publishes a different subject count; verify the current rule with the Ministry rather than with any tutoring page.

Is 0455 good preparation for Diploma or A-Level Economics?+

Yes, and the overlap is larger than most students expect: the basic economic problem, allocation of resources, microeconomic decision makers, government and the macroeconomy, development, and trade all reappear with more depth. What changes is the volume of writing and the weight of judgement expected, plus the internal assessment in the Diploma, which is the student's own work and must remain so. A student continuing with the subject gets more value from marking hours now than from extra content coverage.

What if no 0455 specialist is free at the hours we want?+

You will be told rather than quietly matched with a general tutor. Economics specialists who mark extended answers against the criteria are a narrower group than tutors who can teach the content, and the evening slots in the two months before a June series fill first. The workable options are a waiting slot, a different time, or a weekend session long enough to mark a full structured paper, which several families end up preferring. A non-specialist match would cost a term and change little.

Price the marking, then decide

You now have the AED bands, the task-by-task breakdown, the session totals and the two questions — what the figure includes and how fast work comes back — that separate quotes which look identical. Use them on any provider, this one included. If you want a starting point, send one marked twenty-mark answer with its mark distribution, take the free trial, and ask inside that hour for a second answer to be marked against the criteria. Sessions run one-to-one over live video to Abu Dhabi in Gulf Standard Time, the block has a stated end point, and the marked scripts are yours.
