Cambridge IGCSE Accounting 0452 Tutor in Abu Dhabi

Most families looking for a Cambridge IGCSE Accounting 0452 tutor in Abu Dhabi arrive with the same arithmetic in front of them: Paper 2 carries seventy per cent of the grade, and a correct figure written in the wrong place on a financial statement scores nothing. This page gives the AED bands the market actually charges, what pushes a quote up or down, and how an hour of one-to-one teaching is spent. Lessons run over live video in Gulf Standard Time.

  • Paper 2 statement layout drilled on a shared screen, line by line
  • AED figures quoted with the provider and month they were read
  • Ledger and ratio work marked between sessions, not just taught
  • One free trial lesson, then a rate quoted against the real workload

What Accounting tuition costs in Abu Dhabi, and why the figure varies

Price first. Provider rate pages reachable from Abu Dhabi, read in October 2026, put qualified online subject tuition between AED 150 and AED 300 an hour, with a budget tier below that and a named-specialist tier above. Monthly shapes are the more useful comparison for Accounting, because almost nobody buys a single hour of it: published monthly packages in this market include an online entry package around AED 799 for eight sessions and in-home packages at roughly AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 for four two-hour visits. Those are market figures from other providers, not a price list from here.

The reason a quote moves is the workload rather than the hour. Accounting is a producing subject. A student who is losing marks on the statement of financial position needs to write statements, and somebody has to read them. A session that ends with a full question set, written under timing and marked before the next lesson, costs more to supply than a session that ends with a verbal summary, and it is the only version that shifts a 0452 grade. Ask any provider in this market whether marking sits inside the quoted hour; the answer explains most of the gap between two quotes.

What IB Gram supplies in the UAE is one-to-one teaching over live video, screens shared, the student's own ledger on the screen being corrected as they write. There are no home visits in Abu Dhabi, and nothing here should be read as offering one; in-home tutoring is an India-only service. For Accounting the online format carries a specific advantage, because a tutor can type a correction into the student's own statement and show the knock-on effect through the trial balance in a way that pointing at a page cannot.

The subject itself is unusually diagnosable, which is why honest quoting is possible. Cambridge assesses 0452 with two papers: a multiple-choice paper of thirty-five marks in seventy-five minutes carrying thirty per cent, and a structured written paper of a hundred and twenty marks in one hour forty-five carrying seventy. Grade movement nearly always comes from the written paper, and within it from two places: the formats of the financial statements, and the comment that is supposed to follow a ratio calculation. Neither is a knowledge gap. Both are habits.

Abu Dhabi adds its own context. Private schools in the emirate are licensed and inspected by ADEK, the Department of Education and Knowledge, which supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools here, and its calendar does not match Dubai's. Accounting is also a smaller option subject than Business Studies, so in many Abu Dhabi schools it runs as a single class with one teacher and no second set. That matters: when a student falls behind in a one-class subject, there is no parallel group to move into, and outside help becomes the only available correction.

At a glance

  • Paper 1 multiple choice: 35 marks, 1 h 15 min, 30 per cent of the grade
  • Paper 2 structured written: 120 marks, 1 h 45 min, 70 per cent of the grade
  • Published monthly market shapes: around AED 799 online, AED 1,599-1,799 in-home
  • Most lost marks are format and interpretation, not missing knowledge
  • Accounting often runs as a single class per year group in Abu Dhabi schools
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

0452 sits inside a short, well-defined Cambridge pathway. Knowing where a student is on it tells a tutor whether the first month should be spent on double entry or on interpretation, and whether the target is a certificate grade or entry to an AS course.

0452Ages 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge IGCSE Accounting

Seven syllabus areas, from the accounting equation through to principles and policies, assessed by a multiple-choice paper and a structured written paper. The written paper dominates the grade and asks students to build income statements, statements of financial position, control accounts, bank reconciliations and partnership or company accounts to a required format.

In Abu Dhabi the subject is usually a Year 10 option in British-curriculum schools inspected by ADEK, often taught by one teacher to one class across both years. Several schools pair it with Business Studies in the same option block, which is why families here frequently look for a tutor who can cover both without two separate bookings.

7110Ages 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge O Level Principles of Accounts

The O Level sibling of 0452, offered by some schools instead of the IGCSE. The accounting content overlaps heavily and the ledger work is identical, but the assessment structure and question styles differ enough that revising from the wrong past papers wastes weeks. Checking which code a school enters candidates for is the first question a tutor should ask.

A handful of Abu Dhabi schools, particularly those serving South Asian communities, enter candidates for 7110 rather than 0452. Siblings in the same household occasionally sit different codes, and a tutor who does not check will set the wrong past paper in week one.

9706Ages 16-19 · Years 12-13

Cambridge International AS & A Level Accounting

The continuation route, adding manufacturing and company accounts in depth, published accounts, budgeting, standard costing and investment appraisal. Students who reached a 0452 grade by memorising statement layouts without understanding the double entry behind them tend to collapse in the first term of AS, where the layouts stop being predictable.

Abu Dhabi schools offering 9706 commonly ask for a grade B or better at 0452 before admitting a student, so the IGCSE grade functions as an entry requirement inside the same school. Families planning that route often start tutoring in Year 11 specifically to clear the threshold rather than to lift a predicted grade.

4AC1Ages 14-16 · Years 10-11

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Accounting

The Edexcel alternative, taken by a minority of Abu Dhabi schools. The underlying accounting is the same and the terminology is close, but paper structure, mark allocation and the way adjustments are presented differ. Students who move school mid-course between boards lose time to that mismatch rather than to the accounting itself.

Pearson runs International GCSE series in May and June and in November, and publishes provisional timetables ahead of each one. Abu Dhabi families switching between a Cambridge school and an Edexcel school mid-key-stage should check which series the receiving school enters for before assuming the calendar carries over.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Accounting bookings in Abu Dhabi rarely stay single-subject. The list below is what families most often add, generally because one option block produced two disappointing mock grades at the same time.

Accounting (0452)

Cambridge IGCSE

The subject of this page. Sessions concentrate on the formats of the financial statements, the ledger discipline underneath them, and the interpretation comment that is supposed to follow every ratio calculation on Paper 2.

Business Studies (0450)

Cambridge IGCSE

The common partner subject. It shares the financial-information content but assesses it through applied judgement on a case study rather than through statement preparation, so the answer style is different enough to need separate teaching.

Economics (0455)

Cambridge IGCSE

Often the third subject in the same option block. It works at market and national level and leans on diagram work, which rewards a different skill from Accounting's precision with formats and figures.

Mathematics (0580)

Cambridge IGCSE, Core and Extended

The subject behind most Accounting arithmetic trouble. Depreciation on the reducing-balance method, provision for doubtful debts and ratio work all assume confident percentage and fraction handling, and students who lack it lose Accounting marks that have nothing to do with accounting.

Additional Mathematics (0606)

Cambridge IGCSE

Taken by stronger candidates alongside 0452, usually with an eye on a quantitative A Level. Useful here mainly as a signal: a student comfortable with 0606 who struggles with Accounting has a format problem, not a numeracy problem.

Information and Communication Technology (0417)

Cambridge IGCSE

Shares the spreadsheet modelling that makes Accounting adjustments easier to see. Students who can build a working spreadsheet usually grasp how a single adjustment moves through a trial balance faster than those working only on paper.

English as a Second Language (0510)

Cambridge IGCSE

Relevant because 0452 interpretation questions require a written comment, not a number. Candidates who can calculate a liquid ratio and cannot say in a sentence what it implies lose the second half of the available marks.

Computer Science (0478)

Cambridge IGCSE

A frequent pairing in Abu Dhabi option blocks. The overlap with Accounting is limited but the habit of thinking in rules and consequences transfers well to double entry, which is a rule system before it is a subject.

Accounting (4AC1)

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE

The Edexcel route, covered for students whose school enters that board. The accounting is the same; the paper structure and the presentation of adjustments differ, so past-paper practice has to come from the correct board from week one.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Accounting support takes a small number of shapes, and the right one depends on whether the student cannot do the double entry or cannot present it.

Weekly ledger-and-statement session

One hour a week on a shared screen, working through one syllabus area and finishing with a full written question the tutor marks before the next lesson. The marked scripts stack up into a record a parent can read without asking how things are going, which is the only honest progress measure in this subject.

  • Same slot each week in Gulf Standard Time
  • A full structured question written and marked between sessions
  • Feedback naming the format error, not the general impression
  • Delivered online across Abu Dhabi; no home visit is involved

Ratio and interpretation clinic

A short block for the student who calculates correctly and comments badly. Sessions take real Paper 2 interpretation parts, make the student write the comment, mark it, and make them write it again. The gain is usually visible in two or three sessions because the problem is a missing habit rather than missing content.

  • Four to six sessions, often booked straight after a mock
  • Every ratio in the syllabus calculated and then interpreted in writing
  • Comparison between two businesses and across two years
  • The limitations of ratio analysis treated as examinable content

Pre-series paper block

Two sessions a week across the six to eight weeks before a June or November series. One covers a syllabus area, the other is a timed paper under exam conditions. A running error log travels between sessions so the same reversed debit does not get corrected four times without being learned.

  • Six to eight weeks, two sessions a week
  • Full timed papers near the end of the block
  • A persistent error log the student maintains
  • Priced as a block because the marking load is front-loaded

Double-entry rebuild

For the Year 11 student who joined the course late or never secured the foundations. This is groundwork rather than exam technique: books of prime entry, the ledgers, the trial balance, and what each adjustment does on both sides. It is slower and it is the only order that works, because format teaching on top of shaky double entry does not hold.

  • Starts from the accounting equation, not from past papers
  • Books of prime entry and ledger discipline before statements
  • Adjustments traced through both the ledger and the statement
  • Typically four to six weeks before exam technique begins

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Abu Dhabi

01

Paper 2 carries seventy per cent, and that changes the revision plan

  • Paper 1: 35 marks, 75 minutes, 30 per cent of the grade
  • Paper 2: 120 marks, 105 minutes, 70 per cent of the grade
  • Statement production is a practised skill that decays without weekly use
  • Equal time on both papers is the most common planning error

Cambridge splits 0452 unevenly on purpose. Paper 1 is multiple choice: thirty-five marks in seventy-five minutes, thirty per cent of the grade. Paper 2 is structured written work: a hundred and twenty marks in one hour forty-five, seventy per cent. Any revision plan that gives the two papers equal time is already misallocated, and most school-set revision does exactly that because multiple-choice practice is easier to set and quicker to mark.

The practical consequence is that a student has to write. Accounting cannot be revised by reading, and it cannot be revised by answering short recall questions. The examinable skill on Paper 2 is producing a complete, correctly headed, correctly ordered financial statement from a list of balances and adjustments, under time pressure, without arithmetic slips. That is a motor skill as much as a knowledge one, and it decays if it is not practised weekly.

It also means the marking matters more here than in most subjects. A statement can be ninety per cent right and score poorly because a figure sits under the wrong subtotal, or because the heading omits the period, or because an accrual was adjusted in the income statement and forgotten in current liabilities. Those are invisible to a student rereading their own work and obvious to somebody marking against the criteria. A tutoring arrangement without marking between sessions misses the entire mechanism by which this subject improves.

A reasonable weekly split through Year 11 is one full structured question written under timing, one marked and rewritten, and one short multiple-choice set to keep Paper 1 ticking over. Two hours of student effort a week, one hour of teaching, and the ratio of written to read material heavily in favour of written.

02

The seven syllabus areas and where each one is examined

Cambridge organises 0452 into seven areas, and they are not interchangeable. The first two build the machinery; the middle three apply it; the last two ask the student to step back and judge. A tutor working through them out of order ends up teaching statement formats to a student who cannot reliably decide which side of a ledger an entry belongs on, which produces a short-lived improvement and a worse mock.

Two areas carry disproportionate weight on the written paper. Preparation of financial statements is the largest single written block and the place most marks are available: sole traders, partnerships, limited companies, clubs and societies, manufacturing businesses and incomplete records each have their own expected presentation. Analysis and interpretation reliably appears as the closing part of a question, carries the judgement marks, and is where candidates stop at the number.

Verification of accounting records deserves separate mention because students systematically misunderstand what it is for. Bank reconciliation, control accounts and the correction of errors through a suspense account are not arithmetic exercises. They are proofs: each one demonstrates that two independently kept records agree, and the mark scheme rewards a student who presents it as a proof with the correct layout and narration. Treating it as a sum to get right explains most of the marks lost here.

The table below sets out the seven areas with where each surfaces and the characteristic error. It is deliberately specific, because a revision plan that names the topic without naming the failure mode produces another pass over the textbook rather than a change in score.

Where 0452 marks disappear: presentation, not knowledge

  • Headings that omit the business name or the period
  • Gross profit not shown as a subtotal on the income statement
  • An adjustment applied to the profit figure and not to the balance sheet
  • Journal entries submitted without narrations

Ask an Abu Dhabi teacher which students disappoint at 0452 and the answer is rarely the ones who do not understand accounting. It is the ones who understand it and present it loosely. The subject marks the form of an answer as closely as its content, and a student who has never had their form corrected does not know it is wrong, because their figures are right and their reasoning is sound.

The recurring losses are specific enough to list. Headings without the business name or the period covered. An income statement that runs straight from revenue to profit without showing gross profit as a subtotal. A statement of financial position where non-current and current assets are not separated, or where capital is not reconciled with profit and drawings. Journal entries without narrations. Control accounts that balance because a figure was forced in rather than derived. Each one costs between one and several marks, and a script can lose fifteen marks to presentation alone while containing no accounting error at all.

The second cluster sits in adjustments. A prepayment reduces an expense and creates a current asset; students reliably do the first and forget the second. Depreciation reduces profit and increases accumulated depreciation; the same split failure appears. A provision for doubtful debts changes both the income statement and the receivables figure. The pattern is identical across all of them, which means it is one habit to fix rather than six topics to relearn, and that is good news for a family counting weeks.

Fixing presentation is quick but only under marking. A student cannot see a missing subtotal in their own work; they see the number they intended. Two weeks of written questions returned with the format errors circled usually removes most of this loss permanently, which is why the first month of a 0452 booking should produce marked scripts rather than lesson notes.

04

The ratios, and the sentence that earns the second half of the marks

Interpretation questions are worth having a system for, because they are predictable. The syllabus expects a defined set of profitability and liquidity measures, and examiners ask for the calculation and then for what it means, usually comparing two years or two businesses. Candidates who treat the question as a calculation collect roughly half the available marks and lose the rest to silence.

The comment that scores has three parts and can be taught as a formula. State the direction of the change or the difference. Give a plausible cause tied to the information in the question. Then say what it means for a stated user: the owner deciding whether to invest further, a supplier deciding whether to extend credit, a bank deciding on a loan. A student who writes those three sentences on every interpretation part will score consistently even when their chosen cause is not the one the examiner had in mind, because the reasoning is what is rewarded.

Two further points earn marks and are regularly skipped. The limitations of ratio analysis are examinable content, not a disclaimer: historic figures, no account of quality or staff, one-year snapshots, differences in accounting policy between firms. And the distinction between profitability and liquidity needs stating explicitly, because a business can be profitable and unable to pay its suppliers, which is the scenario examiners build questions around.

The table below lists the measures with what each is for and the error that costs the mark. Formulae are described in words deliberately: students who memorise symbols without knowing which figure goes on top are the ones who divide by revenue when the question supplies credit sales.

What Abu Dhabi families actually pay, by booking shape

Hourly rates are the wrong unit for Accounting because almost nobody buys one hour. The useful comparison is monthly, and this market publishes monthly shapes more readily than it publishes hourly ones. The figures below were read from UAE provider pages and from a published Dubai tutoring cost table in October 2026. They are the market, not a quote from here, and providers revise their pages without notice, so treat any number as indicative and check the source before relying on it.

Read the in-home line carefully if you are comparing. In-home packages in this market price the travel inside the fee, which is why four two-hour visits cost more than eight online sessions despite delivering the same total contact time. That is a rational charge for a tutor crossing Abu Dhabi twice a week, not a markup. It is also the whole argument for the online format: the same budget buys either travel or a specialist, and on a one-class subject like Accounting the specialist is the scarcer item.

What changes the number from here is straightforward. Weeks remaining before the series is the largest factor, because it sets the sessions per week rather than the rate. Whether the student needs a double-entry rebuild or only format correction is the second, because the rebuild is slower. Whether marking is included is the third, and it should be. A shared slot for two students sitting the same code in the same series splits the cost without halving attention, and a tutor should decline it where the two are at different stages.

IB Gram's own position is a free trial lesson, one session, and a quoted rate afterwards. Quoting before seeing a marked script would be guesswork, and in a subject where the diagnosis determines whether four weeks or twelve are needed, guesswork costs families more than the hourly difference between providers.

Multiple choice is not the easy paper

Thirty per cent of the grade sits in thirty-five multiple-choice questions, and students treat that paper as a formality because the format looks forgiving. It is not. Multiple choice removes the partial credit that rescues a written answer: a student who understands the correction of errors but misreads which account needs debiting scores zero on that item rather than two marks out of four. Precision counts for more here, not less.

The questions cluster in predictable places. Principles and policies appear more often on Paper 1 than anywhere else, because they suit a one-sentence judgement. Classification questions, capital versus revenue expenditure, which book of prime entry a transaction belongs in, and the effect of an error on the trial balance also recur, since each has one defensible answer and three plausible distractors. Students who have only practised written questions have never been forced to make those calls at speed.

Timing is the second trap. Seventy-five minutes for thirty-five questions is slightly over two minutes each, which feels generous until a student meets three consecutive calculation items. The habit worth building is to answer, mark the uncertain ones, and move, then return with the remaining time rather than losing eight minutes to a two-mark item. That is a practised behaviour, not advice, and it needs timed sets to develop.

Short multiple-choice sets are therefore worth keeping in a weekly plan even in a Paper 2-dominated subject. Twenty minutes a week, timed, marked, with the wrong answers explained rather than just corrected, keeps thirty per cent of the grade from drifting while the written work gets the bulk of the attention.

07

Where 0452 leads, and what it counts for in the UAE

  • A grade B at 0452 is a common entry condition for AS Accounting 9706
  • Five accredited IGCSEs at E or grade 3 for the British equivalency track
  • Arabic and Islamic education sit outside that count of five
  • No IB equivalency figure is published without a moe.gov.ae source

Accounting is a gateway subject in two directions, and families are often working towards one without knowing about the other. Inside the school, it is frequently the entry requirement for Cambridge AS and A Level Accounting 9706, with a grade B or better commonly asked for, which turns the IGCSE result into an admissions decision made by the same building the student already attends. That is worth knowing in November rather than in August.

Outside the school, 0452 counts in the Ministry of Education equivalency file like any other accredited subject. The British-track requirement is a pass in five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at a grade of no less than E or grade 3, together with one accredited subject at Advanced Level at no less than E, or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. The exclusion families miss is that Arabic and Islamic education are not counted among the five, so a student carrying those two plus four academic IGCSEs has four counting subjects.

No IB points figure for equivalency is published here, because none has been confirmed from the Ministry's own pages for this project. If an IB number matters to your planning, read it on moe.gov.ae or ask the attestation authority in your emirate directly. Equivalency is also not something a tutor performs, influences or accelerates, and no tutoring is required for it. Any provider implying otherwise is manufacturing urgency around a regulatory process.

For university, Accounting is useful preparation and not a prerequisite. Students arriving at a business or finance degree already able to read a set of statements, build a cash-flow position and interpret a ratio start ahead of their cohort. That advantage is real and it is not the same thing as a requirement, and it is worth being clear about the difference before a family commits a year of tutoring budget to a subject their child does not enjoy.

08

What an hour of Accounting tuition is spent on, and what it is not

A session that works has a shape. Ten minutes on the marked script from last week, with the format errors named rather than described. Twenty-five minutes teaching the new area, with the tutor writing the ledger or statement first and the student rebuilding it. Twenty minutes with the student working alone on screen while the tutor watches and interrupts only at the point of error, which is the most useful part and the part that cannot be replicated by watching a video. Five minutes setting the written question for the week.

The boundary on what a tutor may do matters here even though 0452 has no coursework at all. Every mark in this qualification comes from two invigilated papers, so there is nothing to submit from home and nothing a tutor could improperly author for Cambridge. School-set assignments and mocks are a different matter: they feed predicted grades, and predicted grades feed sixth-form and university applications. On that work a tutor teaches, questions and gives feedback on what the student has produced, and does not supply figures or sentences for submission.

Published exam material deserves the same discipline. A tutor should reference the Cambridge syllabus and past papers and point you to cambridgeinternational.org to obtain them through your child's school rather than sending them as downloads. Reproducing exam board material is a copyright matter, and with unreleased papers it becomes a malpractice exposure that lands on the student rather than on the provider.

What a tutor should promise is narrow and checkable: that the student writes and the writing is marked, that feedback names the criterion, that availability is stated honestly, and that a plan which is not moving marks after six weeks of evidence gets changed or stopped. There are no grade promises here. No tutor can offer one in a subject assessed by two papers sat in a hall, and any provider who does is telling you something about themselves rather than about your child.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across Abu Dhabi

Where a family lives in Abu Dhabi decides the session time far more than it decides the teaching. The notes below describe what is realistically bookable from each community on a weekday.

Al Maryah Island and Al Zahiyah

Apartment living close to the business district, with many parents working until seven. Accounting sessions here are most often booked for 7.30pm or 8pm so a parent can be in the room for the first few lessons.

Al Bateen

Established neighbourhood near several long-running British-curriculum schools. Students here usually followed the full two-year 0452 course, so the work is interpretation and format discipline rather than catching up on double entry.

Al Mushrif

Villa streets with short school commutes and heavy private-activity calendars. A single weekly hour with written work in between suits this community better than two shorter sessions that never leave time to produce a full statement.

Al Nahyan and Al Karamah

Mixed-curriculum area where siblings frequently sit different boards. Households here sometimes need a 0452 tutor and an Edexcel 4AC1 tutor in the same week, and the past papers must not be swapped between them.

Shakhbout City and Mohammed Bin Zayed City

Mainland communities with the longest drives to the island schools, so the first workable slot is often after 7pm. Online delivery holds that window reliably where a travelling tutor would not.

Khalifa City and Al Raha

Large year groups and January mock clusters. Accounting here is frequently a one-class subject, so a student who misses the depreciation unit through illness has no second set to catch it in and needs it rebuilt from outside.

Yas Island and Saadiyat Island

Newer catchments with a high proportion of mid-course arrivals. Students who joined in Year 11 often meet control accounts and the suspense account for the first time under exam pressure, which changes the first month of any plan.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Abu Dhabi

Island and Al Mushrif schools

The emirate's longest-standing British-curriculum campuses. Accounting, where offered, usually runs as a single Year 10 to Year 11 class with a formal mock in the spring, and students arrive with orderly notes and shaky statement formats.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send a marked Paper 2 script

The most useful first message is a marked structured-paper answer, with the series the student is entered for and the syllabus code the school uses. A percentage tells a tutor almost nothing; a script shows whether the losses are double entry, format or interpretation, and those need three different plans.

  2. 02

    Free trial lesson, one session

A 0452 specialist works a structured question with the student on a shared screen. One session, no charge. The point is to find out where the answer breaks down rather than to interview the student, so you see the teaching and the tutor sees the fault in the same hour.

  3. 03

A written plan with a week count

After the trial you get a short note naming the failure mode, the syllabus areas that need rebuilding, and a realistic number of weeks. The rate is quoted against that, because an hour with two marked statements in it is a different product from an hour of teaching alone.

  4. 04

    Weekly slot, written work between

A fixed time each week in Gulf Standard Time, agreed around the school run and activities. Every session ends with a question to be written under timing and returned for marking. Where the family travels, the time difference is agreed before the trip so the slot survives it.

  5. 05

Review at six weeks against the scripts

Six weeks of marked work is enough to judge the plan. Frequency goes up, stays flat or the arrangement ends, and the tutor says which rather than leaving it to the parent. A programme that is not moving marks should stop instead of continuing from habit.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The hour includes marking

A 0452 grade moves when statements get written, marked against the criteria and rewritten. Teaching without marking is a cheaper product that leaves the main failure mode untouched, so written work between sessions is built into how a slot is quoted rather than sold as an extra.

Figures carry their source

Every AED band on this page names the provider that published it and the month it was read. Three of six researched competitor pages print no price at all and two quote US dollars, a currency Abu Dhabi families do not transact in. A sourced number lets you judge a quote instead of accepting one.

Online, and said plainly

UAE lessons run one-to-one over live video with screens shared. IB Gram does not make home visits in Abu Dhabi; in-home tutoring exists only in India. On a subject where a tutor needs to correct a student's statement as they write it, the shared screen is better than a page across a table.

Diagnosis before quoting

A rate quoted before anyone has read a marked script is a guess, and in Accounting the difference between a format fix and a double-entry rebuild is eight weeks of fees. The trial lesson exists to make the quote honest, not to sell the next one.

Coverage stated, not implied

Accounting is a narrow subject with a small specialist pool. If nobody is free in the slot you need, you are told so rather than handed a general business tutor. Where a UAE-based specialist is unavailable, the fallback and its rate are stated before anything is agreed.

No promises a tutor cannot keep

No grade guarantees, no claimed board or regulator approval, and no authoring of work a student submits. A tutor teaches, marks and advises. In a subject assessed entirely by papers sat in a hall, anything beyond that is a sales line.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Abu Dhabi: your questions answered

How much does a Cambridge IGCSE Accounting 0452 tutor cost per month in Abu Dhabi?+

Monthly is the right unit for this subject. Published UAE provider pages read in October 2026 show an online entry package around AED 799 for eight sessions, and in-home packages at roughly AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 for four two-hour visits. A published Dubai cost table puts weekly one-hour tuition at AED 240 to 600 in the budget tier, AED 600 to 1,200 mid-tier, and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. Those are other providers' figures, not a price list from here. IB Gram quotes after a free trial lesson, because the workload decides the figure.

Why is Paper 2 worth seventy per cent of the Accounting grade?+

Because it is where the subject is actually tested. Paper 2 gives a hundred and twenty marks in one hour forty-five minutes for structured written work: building income statements, statements of financial position, control accounts, bank reconciliations and partnership or company accounts from balances and adjustments. Paper 1 is thirty-five marks of multiple choice in seventy-five minutes, worth thirty per cent. The planning consequence is that revision time should follow the weighting, and most school-set revision does not, because multiple-choice practice is quicker to set and quicker to mark than a full written statement.

My daughter gets the right figures but loses marks on the statements. Why?+

That is the single most common 0452 pattern and it is a presentation problem, not a knowledge one. Marks go on headings that omit the business name or the period, income statements that never show gross profit as a subtotal, assets that are not split between non-current and current, capital that is not reconciled with profit and drawings, and journal entries without narrations. A script can lose fifteen marks to format while containing no accounting error. It is invisible to a student rereading their own work and obvious to somebody marking against the criteria, which is why marked written work matters more here than extra teaching.

Is IGCSE Accounting harder than IGCSE Business Studies?+

It is less forgiving rather than harder. Business Studies rewards judgement expressed in prose, so a well-argued answer can score even where the content is approximate. Accounting rewards precision: a figure is in the right place or it is not, and a reversed debit propagates through everything that follows. Students who like rules, order and getting an exact answer usually prefer Accounting. Students who write fluently and dislike arithmetic detail usually prefer Business Studies. Neither is a soft option, and taking both in one option block is common in Abu Dhabi schools and works well.

Does 0452 have any coursework or practical component?+

None. The whole grade comes from two papers sat under exam conditions, so nothing is written at home and sent to Cambridge. That removes the academic-honesty question that complicates coursework subjects. School-set assignments and mock papers still exist and still feed predicted grades, and the boundary on those is the same everywhere: a tutor teaches, questions and gives feedback on work the student has written, and never supplies figures or sentences for a submission. Any provider offering more than that is selling your child a risk rather than a service.

How long does it take to fix double-entry confusion in Year 11?+

Usually four to six weeks of weekly sessions plus written work, and it has to come before exam technique rather than alongside it. The rebuild starts at the accounting equation, moves through the books of prime entry and the ledgers to the trial balance, and then traces each adjustment through both sides so the student sees why a prepayment changes an expense and creates an asset. Teaching statement formats on top of unstable double entry produces a short-lived improvement and a worse mock, which is why a good tutor will insist on the slower order.

Can an online tutor really teach ledger layout over video?+

This is one of the subjects where the online format is an advantage rather than a compromise. The lesson happens on a shared screen with the student's own working visible, so a tutor can correct a heading as it is typed, show the knock-on effect of a misplaced figure through the trial balance, and hand control back mid-statement. Watching a student work and interrupting at the exact moment of error is the most useful twenty minutes of any Accounting session, and a shared screen does it at least as well as sitting beside them.

Which ratios does 0452 expect a student to know by heart?+

The syllabus expects gross margin, profit margin, return on capital employed, current ratio, liquid or acid test ratio, rate of inventory turnover, and the receivables and payables turnover periods in days. Knowing the formula is half the mark. The other half is a three-part comment: the direction of the change, a plausible cause tied to the information given, and what it means for a named user such as an owner, a supplier or a bank. The limitations of ratio analysis are examinable content too, not a disclaimer to add at the end.

Should my son take Accounting if he is weak at maths?+

The arithmetic demand is lower than families fear and the precision demand is higher. Accounting needs confident work with percentages, fractions and simple interest, mostly for depreciation, provisions and ratios, and almost nothing beyond that. What it genuinely requires is care: a student who habitually transposes digits or skips a line will lose marks everywhere, because errors propagate. A student who is slow at mental arithmetic but methodical on paper usually does well. If the underlying problem is percentage work, fixing that in maths lessons is cheaper than fixing it inside Accounting hours.

What is the suspense account and why does it confuse everyone?+

It is a temporary holding account used when a trial balance does not agree, and the confusion comes from treating it as a thing rather than as a symptom. Errors that affect only one side of the double entry push the trial balance out of balance, and the difference is parked in a suspense account until each error is found and corrected by journal entry. Errors affecting both sides equally, such as a complete reversal or a wrong account of the right type, never reach it. Knowing which errors do and do not affect the trial balance is what the question is actually testing.

Does 0452 count as one of the five IGCSEs for UAE equivalency?+

Yes, like any other accredited academic subject. The British-track requirement published for UAE equivalency is a pass in five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at a grade of no less than E or grade 3, with either one accredited Advanced Level subject at no less than E or two Advanced Subsidiary Level subjects at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are not counted among the five, which catches families out when planning option blocks. Verify the current rules on moe.gov.ae, because equivalency is a Ministry process and not something a tutor performs or influences.

Is Accounting 0452 accepted for AS and A Level Accounting 9706?+

It is the natural entry route and many Abu Dhabi schools ask for a grade B or better before admitting a student to AS Accounting. Students who reached a good IGCSE grade by memorising statement layouts tend to struggle in the first AS term, where the layouts stop being predictable and manufacturing, published company accounts and costing arrive. The habits that carry forward are double-entry security and the discipline of commenting on a figure rather than stopping at it, which is why those are worth fixing at IGCSE rather than deferring.

How do we schedule Accounting sessions around Ramadan in Abu Dhabi?+

By agreeing the change before the month starts rather than during it. Sessions commonly move to post-Iftar timing, and families who settle that in advance keep their continuity instead of losing four weeks and then trying to compress the catch-up into the spring. For a June-series candidate that month sits awkwardly close to the real revision window, so the practical approach is lighter sessions with shorter written tasks rather than a pause, and a slightly heavier schedule either side of it. Online delivery makes the timing shift straightforward since no travel has to be rearranged.

What does the first Accounting session with a new tutor cover?+

A question, not a conversation. The tutor sets a structured written part at the student's level, watches them work on a shared screen, and stops at the first point where the method breaks rather than at the end. That locates the fault precisely: debit and credit reversal, an adjustment applied on one side only, a missing subtotal, or a ratio calculated without comment. By the end of the hour there is a named failure mode and a rough week count. Sending a marked mock script beforehand makes that diagnosis faster and the first hour more useful.

Send the marked script first

If your child is sitting Cambridge IGCSE Accounting 0452 at an Abu Dhabi school and Paper 2 practice is coming back lower than the effort suggests, the useful next step is small. Send a marked structured-paper answer and the series they are entered for. A 0452 specialist will work a question with them in a free trial lesson, one session, and write back naming whether the loss is double entry, format or interpretation, with a realistic week count attached. Sessions run one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time. If nobody is free in the slot you need, you will be told rather than offered a substitute.
