Cambridge IGCSE Tutor in Abu Dhabi

A Cambridge IGCSE tutor in Abu Dhabi is hired to work on a specific syllabus, not on a subject in general. Cambridge publishes a numbered syllabus for every course, sets the command term in every question, allocates the marks before anyone writes an answer, and runs its exams to a zoned timetable. This page works through that machinery in the order it affects a grade, and states up front that IB Gram delivers its Cambridge support one-to-one over live video rather than by sending a tutor to an address.

  • Teaching anchored to the numbered Cambridge syllabus, not a generic subject
  • Command terms taught as mark instructions rather than as vocabulary
  • Entry, tier and zone checked against cambridgeinternational.org

IB & IGCSE in Abu Dhabi

Cambridge grades a syllabus, not a subject

There is a difference between a tutor who teaches chemistry and a tutor who teaches Cambridge IGCSE Chemistry 0620, and the difference shows up in marks. Cambridge publishes a numbered syllabus for every course it examines. That document states which topics are assessable, which components a candidate sits, how the marks divide between them, and which command words the questions will use. A student who has been taught the subject well but has never been taught the syllabus loses marks in a pattern that is entirely predictable from the document itself.

Abu Dhabi families meet this problem more often than most, because the emirate's British-curriculum schools draw students in from several systems. A child who arrived from an American school in Year 9, or from a national curriculum elsewhere in the Gulf, can be two years into a Cambridge course without anyone having explained what the papers look like. They know the content. They answer a six-mark question in three lines because nobody told them a six-mark question is an instruction about length as well as about content. That is the most common diagnosis in a first session with a Cambridge IGCSE tutor in Abu Dhabi, and it is one of the quickest to fix.

The syllabus number itself is the thing to get straight first. Mathematics is 0580 and Additional Mathematics is 0606; the sciences run as Biology 0610, Chemistry 0620 and Physics 0625, or as Coordinated Sciences 0654 and Combined Science 0653; English runs as First Language 0500 or Second Language 0510; Arabic appears as First Language 0508 and as a foreign language 0544. Business Studies is 0450, Economics 0455, Computer Science 0478, Accounting 0452. Those numbers appear on the entry the school submits and on the statement of results, and confirming them against the current list on cambridgeinternational.org is the first ten minutes of a sensible tuition plan. Syllabuses are revised, so the year matters as much as the number.

From there the machinery is learnable. Every question carries a command word that tells the examiner what to accept: state wants a fact, describe wants observable detail, explain wants a causal chain, suggest wants applied reasoning about an unfamiliar context, and a candidate who treats all four the same scores inconsistently and cannot work out why. Every paper has a mark allocation that implies a structure. Every centre is allocated to one of six administrative zones and must use the matching version of the timetable. None of that is secret. It is published, and almost no competing page in this search mentions any of it.

On delivery, plainly: IB Gram does not send a tutor to an Abu Dhabi address, because home visits are a service we run only in India. Cambridge support for UAE families is one-to-one over live video at a fixed Gulf Standard Time slot, with past-paper work marked between sessions and returned annotated. That format suits this particular job unusually well, since most of the work is two people looking at the same marked script and the same mark allocation at the same time.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Cambridge runs a continuous route from lower secondary to pre-university, and the IGCSE years sit in the middle of it. These are the stages Abu Dhabi families ask about, with what each one actually examines.

CLSPAges 11-14 · Years 7-9

Cambridge Lower Secondary and Checkpoint

The years before the numbered IGCSE syllabuses begin, ending in Checkpoint tests that Cambridge runs in March, May and October. Checkpoint is diagnostic rather than certificated, which makes it the most useful and least used piece of evidence a parent gets: it shows where a student sits against international expectations two years before anything counts.

Abu Dhabi schools vary in how much weight they put on Checkpoint results, and many families never see them broken down by strand. Asking for the strand-level breakdown before Year 10 begins is the cheapest piece of diagnosis available, and it usually predicts which IGCSE subjects will need support.

COREAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge IGCSE Core tier

On tiered syllabuses such as 0580, 0610, 0620 and 0625, the Core route examines a defined subset of the content and makes the upper grades unavailable. The teaching job is to secure the full Core content rather than to extend it, and the honest conversation is about whether the tier was the right entry in the first place.

Core entries appear most often in Abu Dhabi where a student joined a Cambridge school part-way through Key Stage 4. A tier review in the first term of Year 10 is realistic; one in the spring of Year 11 usually is not, because the school has already submitted the entry.

EXTAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge IGCSE Extended tier

The full syllabus content, the full grade range, and the papers that post-16 courses expect. Extended papers carry more multi-step questions, more questions set in unfamiliar contexts, and a heavier reliance on command words beyond state and describe. Most Cambridge IGCSE tuition in this emirate is Extended work.

Abu Dhabi sixth forms and Diploma programmes routinely set subject-specific IGCSE entry grades, which is why an Extended grade in Mathematics or a science carries weight beyond the certificate itself. The grade gates a choice, and the choice is made before results arrive.

AS/ALAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Cambridge International AS and A Level

Where Cambridge IGCSE leads for most students who stay in the British system. The step up is less about new content than about sustained argument and unfamiliar application, and students who learned to read command words properly at IGCSE arrive able to do that. Students who did not spend Year 12 learning it late.

The Ministry of Education's equivalency route for British-curriculum students requires one accredited subject at Advanced Level at grade E or better, or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level, alongside five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than grade E or grade 3. Verify the current rule on moe.gov.ae.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Each Cambridge syllabus loses marks in its own way. These are the numbered syllabuses Abu Dhabi families most often ask for, with the specific failure a session is usually bought to fix.

Mathematics 0580

Core and Extended

Marks are lost on method rather than on answers. Candidates who write only a final figure forfeit the working marks available when the figure is wrong, and candidates who round early lose accuracy marks on multi-step questions. The fix is mechanical and fast: write the method, keep full precision until the last line.

Additional Mathematics 0606

Single tier

A genuine step beyond 0580, with calculus and more demanding trigonometry and functions work. Students arrive able to execute procedures and unable to choose between them, so sessions concentrate on recognising which tool an unfamiliar question is asking for before any algebra starts.

Biology 0610

Core and Extended

The highest-content syllabus of the three sciences and the one where strong students underperform most often, because knowing the material is not the same as answering the command word. Describe and explain questions on the same diagram want different answers, and the marks go to whoever noticed.

Chemistry 0620

Core and Extended

Two reliable problem areas: the quantitative work around moles and concentrations, where arithmetic discipline decides the mark, and organic chemistry, where students memorise reactions without the functional-group logic that makes unfamiliar examples answerable.

Physics 0625

Core and Extended

Electricity and circuit analysis generate more enquiries in Abu Dhabi than any other physics topic, followed by anything requiring unit manipulation. Candidates lose marks for stating relationships qualitatively when the question wanted a calculation with units carried through.

Coordinated Sciences 0654

Core and Extended

Three disciplines, one grade, less content per discipline than the separate syllabuses. The tuition risk is uneven coverage: a tutor strong in chemistry and weak in physics produces a student who is strong in a third of the paper. Confirm all three disciplines before booking.

English as a Second Language 0510

Core and Extended

Reading and writing marks turn on task fulfilment, register and the number of distinct points made, not on vocabulary display. Students who write elaborately and address half the prompt score below students who write plainly and address all of it.

English First Language 0500

Single tier

The directed writing and analysis components reward structural control. The commonest loss is a response that narrates the passage instead of analysing how it works, which is a planning habit rather than a knowledge gap and moves within a few sessions.

Arabic as a First Language 0508

Single tier

Sits alongside the licensed international curriculum because private schools in the UAE must teach Arabic regardless of the programme they run. Tutors able to teach it to IGCSE standard are scarce relative to demand across the emirate, so continuity matters more than it does elsewhere.

Business Studies 0450 and Economics 0455

Single tier

Definitions are the cheapest marks and the ceiling. Grades above the middle depend on application to the stimulus material and on evaluation that reaches a judgement, which is a writing discipline that can be taught directly from marked answers.

Computer Science 0478

Single tier

Theory and practical problem solving reward different habits, and students are usually strong in one. Algorithm questions want pseudocode that someone else could execute, and marks are lost on unstated assumptions rather than on logic errors.

Accounting 0452

Single tier

Format carries marks. Candidates who understand double entry but present statements loosely lose presentation and consistency marks across a whole paper, which is why drilling layout against marked answers moves a grade faster than more theory does.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats, all delivered one-to-one over live video, chosen by what the syllabus work actually needs rather than by what is easiest to sell.

Weekly syllabus work on one numbered course

A fixed weekly slot on a single Cambridge syllabus, working through the assessable content in the order the school teaches it, with past-paper questions set and marked between sessions. The point of the weekly format is cumulative diagnosis: by week four the tutor knows which command words this student mishandles and can target them directly.

  • One syllabus number, one tutor, one slot held for the term
  • Questions set from the student's own school material and from official practice
  • Marked answers returned annotated against the mark allocation
  • Tier suitability reviewed honestly in the first fortnight

Paper clinic on a single component

A short run of sessions on one component rather than one subject, for a student whose difficulty is localised: the practical paper, the extended-response component, or the section of a maths paper where the multi-step questions sit. Narrow work of this kind produces visible movement quickly because the failure is specific.

  • Built around repeated attempts at the same component under timing
  • Scores tracked attempt by attempt rather than described
  • Ends when three consecutive attempts hold at target
  • Suited to students whose content knowledge is already sound

Dual-board support for one household

Abu Dhabi students frequently sit Cambridge in some subjects and Pearson Edexcel in others, and so do siblings in the same house. One tutor who knows both the Cambridge and the Pearson version of a subject can hold the differences in mind, which prevents the most common revision error: practising the wrong board's papers.

  • Both syllabus numbers confirmed before any practice material is chosen
  • Differences in component structure explained to the student directly
  • Useful where siblings sit different boards in the same subject
  • Not available on every subject pairing

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Abu Dhabi

01

The syllabus number is the first thing a Cambridge tutor should ask for

Cambridge examines syllabuses, and each one has a number. That number, with the year of the version, determines what is assessable, which components a candidate sits and how the marks divide. It is printed on the entry the school submits and on the statement of results, and it is the one piece of information that makes a tuition plan accurate rather than approximate. A tutor who starts teaching before establishing it is guessing, politely.

The practical reason this matters in Abu Dhabi is the spread of provision. One school in the Khalifa City corridor offers three separate sciences; a school a few minutes away offers Coordinated Sciences 0654 and nothing else. One offers English as a First Language 0500; another enters almost everyone for English as a Second Language 0510. A parent who buys tuition for the wrong one has bought practice on a paper their child will never sit, and the first anyone notices is usually a mock result that makes no sense.

Syllabuses are also revised. A past paper from several years ago may examine content that has since moved or been removed, and a revision plan built on old material wastes weeks. The fix is to confirm the current version on cambridgeinternational.org at the start, and then to work from the material the school has issued plus official practice. Nobody should be sending you a private library of syllabus documents, mark schemes or past papers: those are Cambridge copyright, and a provider distributing them is telling you how they operate. The table below lists the numbers that come up most in this emirate and what to confirm about each.

Command words are mark instructions, and most lost marks live here

  • Count the marks, plan that many points, then write
  • No because in an explain answer usually means no marks
  • Working survives a wrong final answer; a bare answer does not

Cambridge questions begin with a command word, and the word is not decoration. It states what the examiner will accept. A student who answers a describe question with an explanation has written something true and scored nothing, and a student who answers an explain question with a description has done the same. This is the single most common diagnosis in a first Cambridge session with an Abu Dhabi student, and it cuts across every subject.

The confusion is understandable, because in ordinary speech these words overlap. In Cambridge usage they do not. State wants a fact with no reasoning attached. Describe wants what happens or what is observed, in sequence, without causes. Explain wants the causal chain, and a response with no because in it rarely earns the marks. Suggest signals an unfamiliar context where the candidate must apply principles rather than recall an answer, and it is the command word strong students fear most because there is nothing to remember. Compare wants both sides addressed in the same sentence, not two paragraphs side by side. Calculate wants working, because the working carries marks even when the final figure is wrong.

The mark allocation is the second half of the instruction. A two-mark question wants two distinct creditable points, and padding wastes time that a later question needed. A six-mark question is telling a candidate that six separate things are available, and a three-line answer cannot contain them. Teaching a student to count the marks and plan that many points before writing is a technique fix rather than a content fix, which is why it moves grades inside a handful of sessions rather than a term.

Coordinated 0654, Combined 0653 or three separate sciences

This is the Cambridge decision that most changes a student's post-16 options in Abu Dhabi, and it is frequently made by timetable rather than by choice. Three separate syllabuses award three grades and cover the most content. Coordinated Sciences 0654 awards a double grade across all three disciplines with less content in each. Combined Science 0653 awards a single grade with lighter content again. All three are legitimate Cambridge routes; they open different doors.

Where it matters is the step into Year 12. A student intending to take a science at Advanced Level or Higher Level in the Diploma is usually better served by the separate syllabus in that discipline, because the content gap at the start of Year 12 is smaller and the habits of working are closer to what is coming. A student taking sciences to a sound pass and then moving towards humanities or business is often better served by Coordinated, which frees timetable space for another subject. Neither is a lesser choice in the abstract.

For tuition the decision has one concrete consequence. A combined route is taught by one teacher covering three disciplines, and a tutor booked for it must genuinely cover all three. Families routinely book a tutor whose strength is chemistry for a 0654 entry and discover in March that the physics third of the paper was never properly addressed. Ask the question directly before the first session, and if the honest answer is two disciplines out of three, book accordingly rather than hoping.

Where Cambridge marks actually go missing, group by group

  • Mathematics: method, precision, units, and time lost on cheap questions
  • Sciences: command words, trend-then-evidence structure, units on every figure
  • Practical components: variable control, repeats, and graph conventions
  • Essay subjects: analysis over narration, and a judgement actually reached

Marked scripts from Abu Dhabi students repeat the same losses, and they cluster by subject group rather than by ability. In mathematics the losses are procedural: method not written, early rounding, units dropped, and the final part of a multi-step question abandoned because time ran out on a question earlier in the paper that was worth fewer marks. None of that is about understanding mathematics. All of it is about how a paper is worked through.

In the sciences the losses are linguistic. Students who can explain a process out loud write three words where a four-mark answer was available, or answer the question they expected rather than the one printed. Data questions are a reliable second source: reading a value from a graph without using the full axis range, failing to state a trend before quoting evidence for it, and giving a numerical answer without units. In practical-skills components the marks sit in variable control, precision, repeat readings and in drawing a graph to the standard the mark scheme specifies rather than to the standard that looks neat.

In the essay and stimulus subjects the losses are structural. English responses narrate instead of analysing. Business and Economics answers define, apply and then stop, with no judgement reached, which forfeits the evaluation marks that separate the top bands. Accounting answers are correct in substance and loose in presentation. In every one of these cases the content is in the student's head and the marks are not on the page, which is exactly the gap a tutor working from marked scripts is able to close.

05

Zones: the Cambridge timetable you downloaded may be the wrong one

This is a small operational fact with large consequences, and no competing page in this search mentions it. Cambridge allocates every exam centre to one of six administrative zones, and its guidance for exams officers states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone. It also states that Cambridge cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after the wrong zone timetable has been used. A parent printing a timetable found through a search engine is doing exactly the thing that warning is about.

The correct source is the school. The exams officer knows which zone the centre sits in and issues the candidate's personal statement of entry, which lists each component with its date, session and room. That document, not a general timetable, is the thing to put on the fridge. If it has not arrived by the time revision planning starts in earnest, asking for it is a reasonable request and takes one email.

There is a tutoring consequence too. Revision schedules are built backwards from paper dates, and two components a week apart need a different plan from two components on consecutive mornings. In a zone-dependent timetable those gaps differ, so a plan built from the wrong version can put the heaviest revision in the wrong week. We build around the statement of entry the family actually holds, and if a student is sitting components in both Cambridge and another board, both timetables go into the same plan.

Two series a year, and the deadline that sits months before the paper

Cambridge runs IGCSE and O Level exams in a June series and a November series, with Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests in March, May and October. Abu Dhabi schools predominantly use June, and November exists as a second route rather than as a parallel one. What surprises families is how far ahead the administrative decisions are taken, and how little of the process is still open by the time a parent starts worrying.

The two series a UAE centre can enter are June and November, and the easiest way to see how long the lead time really runs is to put a published timetable next to it. Pearson's International GCSE November 2026 series is the cleanest example on the record: the final timetable runs from late October to 19 November 2026, and results from the November 2025 equivalent reached students on 22 January 2026. That is a three-month wait between the last paper and the grade, on top of an entry deadline that closed before the autumn term had properly started. Cambridge runs the same shape. Entries for the June series close in the spring, months before the first paper, forecast grades are submitted close to the exam window, papers are sat across May and June on one of six zone timetables, results reach centres on Cambridge International Direct in August, and certificates follow weeks later. The November series repeats it in the autumn with results in January. The exact day in each case comes from the centre's statement of entry, not from a page like this one, because Cambridge revises timetables and publishes them per zone.

The decisions that are locked by the entry deadline are the ones families most want to change afterwards: which tier, which syllabus, and whether the student is entered for a subject at all. By the spring of Year 11 a tier conversation is usually a conversation about mock preparation instead, because the entry has gone. The practical rule is to treat the autumn term of Year 10 as the window for entry and tier decisions, and the spring of Year 11 as the window for technique, not structure.

After results: re-marks, resits and what a certificate does next

  • A review of results goes through the school and runs to a stated deadline
  • A resit is worth buying only where the diagnosis is specific and fixable
  • Five IGCSE subjects at grade E or 3 is the sourced equivalency floor, excluding Arabic and Islamic education
  • Confirm equivalency requirements on moe.gov.ae rather than from any tutoring page

Results day produces one of three reactions, and only one of them needs a tutor. A grade at or above target closes the subject. A grade below target with no obvious anomaly points to a resit decision. A grade that does not match the mock evidence at all points to a review of results, which is requested through the school rather than by the family directly and runs to a deadline the school will state. The important thing is that the choice is made deliberately within days, because every route has a closing date.

A resit in a later series is a real option and a limited one. Cambridge runs two series a year, so a June candidate can in principle re-enter in November, but the practical question is whether anything will be different by then. Re-sitting a paper with the same preparation produces the same grade. A resit is worth buying when the diagnosis is specific and fixable, which usually means technique, a single topic block, or a timing failure visible on the script. It is not worth buying when the original grade accurately reflects a student who did not have the content.

The third consideration is what the certificate has to do afterwards. For British-curriculum students seeking Ministry of Education equivalency, the sourced requirement is five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than grade E or grade 3, with Arabic and Islamic education excluded from that count, plus one subject at Advanced Level at grade E or better or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level. One competitor page ranking in this search states that UAE candidates must take six IGCSE subjects; the sourced figure is five. Verify the current position on moe.gov.ae, because a tutoring page is not the authority and the process is not something a tutoring provider performs on your behalf.

08

Sixty minutes on one question: what a Cambridge session actually does

  • Start from a marked script, not from a topic list
  • One diagnosis per session, practised until it holds
  • Work set narrow enough to mark properly before the next session
  • The annotated script stays with the student as a record

Parents reasonably ask what happens in the hour. The least useful version is a tutor re-teaching a topic the school has already taught, in the same order, with the student listening. The most useful version is narrower than most families expect: two people looking at one marked question, working out precisely why it scored what it scored, and then attempting two more questions of the same type under timing.

A worked example from a Mathematics 0580 Extended session. The student has lost three marks on a multi-step problem. Reading the script shows the method was right and nothing was written down, so the available working marks went unclaimed when an arithmetic slip spoiled the final figure. That is not a mathematics lesson. That is a two-minute instruction, followed by twenty minutes of practice at writing method under timing, followed by a question set for the week where the tutor marks only the presence of method. The following week the same error has usually gone.

The sessions that produce visible movement share three features. They begin with evidence rather than with a topic, so the hour is spent on something real. They end with work set that is narrow enough to mark meaningfully, not a chapter of revision. And they are delivered in a format where both people see the same script at the same time, annotated live, which is the one thing live video does better than sitting at a kitchen table with a single paper copy between you. The annotated file stays with the student afterwards, which a verbal explanation does not.

09

Coursework, drafts and the line a Cambridge tutor does not cross

  • The folder is the student's own work, start to finish
  • A tutor teaches the skill, questions the draft and never supplies the text
  • No finished or part-finished assessed work changes hands in either direction
  • Feedback arrives as questions the student answers, not as corrections to accept

Some Cambridge syllabuses carry a coursework or portfolio component, and this is where a tutor's role has to be stated precisely rather than left to tact. The student's folder must be the student's own work. A tutor may teach the underlying skill, explain what the assessment criteria reward, ask questions about a draft the student has written, and point out where an argument does not follow. A tutor may not supply text, dictate structure line by line, or hand back a version that has been rewritten for them.

The distinction is not pedantic. Academic honesty rules make submitted work that is not the candidate's own a malpractice matter, and the consequences land on the student rather than on the person who helped. There is an industry in this search result selling completed assessed work, including one operator advertising finished internal assessments at a fixed price. That is not a cheaper version of tuition; it is a different and considerably more dangerous product, and the family carries the risk.

What good draft feedback looks like in practice is questions rather than corrections. Which criterion is this paragraph answering? Where is the evidence for that claim? You have described the method twice and never evaluated it, so which of those paragraphs is doing the work? A student who answers those questions and then revises their own text has learned something transferable and submitted their own folder. A student handed a corrected version has learned nothing and submitted something they cannot defend if asked about it.

Dense central addresses with short school runs and a mix of curricula, so families often need a tutor who can confirm which board a child is actually entered for before any teaching is planned.

Khalifa City

The largest single source of Cambridge IGCSE enquiries in the emirate, and the area where tier questions come up most, because several schools here take students in part-way through Key Stage 4.

Al Shamkha

Newer schools with growing Cambridge cohorts and narrower subject offers, which means students here more often sit Coordinated Sciences 0654 rather than three separate syllabuses.

Mussafah and Baniyas

Mixed-curriculum area with a high proportion of Core-tier entries and a strong demand for Arabic first language support alongside the international programme.

Al Reef

Villa community a long way from the island, where the practical case for live video delivery is strongest and where families most often ask for two subjects with one tutor to simplify the week.

Al Reem Island

Tower living with reliable connectivity and an international mix, producing steady demand for English as a Second Language 0510 alongside the sciences.

Mohammed Bin Zayed City

Large and well served by schools, with Cambridge cohorts across several year groups. Evening slots clear early here, so Cambridge tuition is often booked for weekend mornings.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Abu Dhabi

Central island schools

The emirate's oldest British-curriculum provision, with full Cambridge offers and separate sciences available at most schools. Students here usually know their syllabus numbers, which makes a first session faster.

  • The British School Al Khubairat
  • Al Bateen Academy
  • Abu Dhabi Grammar School
  • Al Muna Academy
  • Al Mamoura Academy

Khalifa City, Al Raha and Yas

Where most newer Cambridge capacity sits. Subject offers differ noticeably between schools in this corridor, which is why one family sits Biology 0610 and a neighbour sits Coordinated Sciences 0654.

  • Al Yasmina Academy
  • Cranleigh Abu Dhabi
  • Repton Abu Dhabi
  • West Yas Academy
  • GEMS American Academy Abu Dhabi

Mainland and southern communities

Schools serving Mohammed Bin Zayed City, Al Shamkha, Mussafah and Baniyas, with broader curriculum mixes and a higher share of Cambridge Core entries and combined science routes.

  • GEMS Cambridge International School Abu Dhabi
  • Brighton College Abu Dhabi
  • Amity International School Abu Dhabi
  • Merryland International School
  • Emirates National School

Schools are named only to describe the Cambridge landscape in this emirate; IB Gram claims no affiliation with, endorsement by, or partnership with any school or group listed.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the syllabus numbers, not just the subjects

The first message that lets us answer properly names the Cambridge syllabuses and tiers: 0580 Extended and 0620 Extended, Year 11, June series. If you do not have the numbers, the school's statement of entry or the last report usually carries them, and we will help you read it rather than guessing from the subject name.

  2. 02

A free 45-minute trial on your child's own material

One trial session with the proposed tutor, 45 minutes, no charge and no card details collected. It runs on a marked paper or a recent piece of school work rather than a generic test, and it ends with a written note naming the specific failure the tutor saw and roughly how many sessions it represents.

  3. 03

A diagnosis you can read, before any teaching plan

You receive the diagnosis in plain terms: which command words are mishandled, which topics are genuinely missing, and which losses are timing rather than knowledge. That distinction decides the plan, because technique gaps close in weeks and content gaps take a term, and the plan should say which one you are buying.

  4. 04

Weekly sessions with marked work in between

Lessons run one-to-one over live video at a fixed Gulf Standard Time slot. Questions are set between sessions and returned annotated against the mark allocation, so the paid hour starts from evidence. Nobody travels to an Abu Dhabi address; UAE delivery is online, and home visits are a service we run only in India.

  5. 05

Component scores tracked, and a review at six sessions

Timed attempts are recorded as scores rather than described as progress, so at the six-session review there is something to read. The review gives a direct recommendation: continue, change tutor, change the component being worked on, or reduce the hours. Recommending fewer sessions is a normal outcome.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Teaching anchored to a numbered syllabus

Every plan starts by confirming the Cambridge syllabus number and version against cambridgeinternational.org, because 0610 and 0654 are different courses examined differently and a tutor who treats them as the same subject will have a student practising the wrong paper. Almost no page in this search names a single syllabus code.

Command words taught as mark instructions

The most common loss on an Abu Dhabi student's Cambridge script is a true answer to the wrong command word. We teach the words as instructions about what the examiner will credit, with the mark allocation read as a statement about how many points to make. It is the fastest-moving fix available at this level.

The zone rule is explained rather than ignored

Cambridge allocates centres to one of six administrative zones and warns that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who use the wrong version of the timetable. We plan from the candidate's own statement of entry, which is the document that settles it, and tell families to ask the exams officer for it early.

No syllabus documents, mark schemes or papers distributed

Cambridge material is Cambridge copyright. We cite the official pages, say exactly which document matters for your child's entry, and work from what the school has issued plus official practice. A provider offering a private library of papers has told you something about how it operates.

The coursework boundary stated in writing

A tutor teaches the skill, questions a draft the student wrote and gives feedback the student then acts on. No assessed text is supplied in either direction. One operator ranking in this search sells completed internal assessments outright; the risk of that transaction sits with the student, which is why the line is published here.

Dual-board households handled deliberately

Abu Dhabi students regularly sit Cambridge in some subjects and Pearson Edexcel in others. Confirming both boards before any practice material is chosen prevents the commonest revision waste in this market, which is a term spent on the wrong board's past papers.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Abu Dhabi: your questions answered

Which Cambridge IGCSE syllabus code is my child entered for?+

It is on the statement of entry the school issues to the candidate, and usually on recent reports. Mathematics is 0580 and Additional Mathematics 0606; the separate sciences are 0610, 0620 and 0625, with Coordinated Sciences 0654 and Combined Science 0653 as the combined routes; English runs as 0500 or 0510, Arabic as 0508 or 0544, and Business Studies, Economics, Computer Science and Accounting as 0450, 0455, 0478 and 0452. Confirm the number and the version year on cambridgeinternational.org, because syllabuses are revised and practice material from an older version can examine content that has moved.

Why did a technically correct answer only score two marks out of four?+

Almost always because the answer addressed a different command word, or made fewer distinct points than the mark allocation offered. A four-mark explain question wants a causal chain with reasons; a correct description of what happens, however accurate, earns the description marks and stops. The same applies in reverse: an elaborate explanation on a two-mark state question wastes time a later question needed. Teaching a student to count the marks, plan that many separate points and check which command word is printed is a technique correction, and it usually shows up in scores within a few sessions.

Should my child take Coordinated Sciences or three separate sciences?+

It depends on what happens in Year 12. Separate Biology 0610, Chemistry 0620 and Physics 0625 award three grades and cover the most content, which makes the step into an Advanced Level or Higher Level science smaller. Coordinated Sciences 0654 awards a double grade with less content per discipline and frees timetable space, which suits a student heading elsewhere. Combined Science 0653 is lighter again and worth checking against post-16 entry requirements before relying on it. In Abu Dhabi the choice is often made by the school's timetable rather than by the family, so ask early what is actually on offer.

Does Cambridge IGCSE report grades as A* to G or 9 to 1?+

Cambridge IGCSE results are reported on an A* to G scale for most syllabuses, and some are reported on a 9 to 1 scale, so the honest answer for any individual student is to read the statement of results rather than assume. What matters more for planning is that a parent knows which scale their child's school reports internally, because a school report quoting a working-at grade on one scale and a results statement using the other is a common source of confusion in Abu Dhabi households where siblings sit different boards. Ask the school which scale appears on the final certificate.

Which Cambridge exam timetable zone applies to Abu Dhabi?+

Ask the school's exams officer, because the zone is a property of the exam centre rather than of the country, and Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones. Its guidance for exams officers states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone and that Cambridge cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after the wrong version was used. The document to work from is the candidate's own statement of entry, which lists each component with its date and session. A timetable found through a search engine is not a safe substitute.

Can my child sit Cambridge IGCSE in the November series?+

Cambridge runs IGCSE and O Level exams in a June series and a November series, so a November entry exists. Whether it is available to your child is a question for the school, since entries are submitted by the centre and not all centres offer both series in all subjects. November is most often used as a resit route or by students who joined a course off the standard cycle. If you are considering it, ask the exams officer well before the entry deadline, because the administrative decision closes months before the paper itself is sat.

How far before the exam does the school have to enter my child?+

Months, not weeks. A UAE centre enters candidates for either the June series or the November series, and in both cases the entry closes long before revision peaks: for June the centre's final entry deadline falls in the spring, roughly a term ahead of the first paper, and the exact day is printed on the statement of entry. Pearson's published International GCSE calendar shows the same lead time from the other end, with the November 2026 papers running to 19 November 2026 and the previous November cohort's results reaching students on 22 January 2026. The practical consequence for a Cambridge candidate is that tier and subject decisions are effectively settled a long way out, so a conversation about moving from Core to Extended belongs in Year 10 rather than in the spring of Year 11.

Can a Cambridge IGCSE grade be re-marked after results?+

A review of results can be requested, and it goes through the school rather than directly from the family, to a deadline the school will state. It is worth considering where a grade is sharply out of line with the mock evidence and the script suggests an anomaly rather than an off day. It is not a route to a better grade for a student whose performance matched expectations. Decide within days of results, because the window is short, and ask the exams officer what evidence the school needs from you before they submit anything on your behalf.

Is it possible to resit a single Cambridge IGCSE subject?+

Yes, in a later series, and the school or an exam centre handles the entry. The useful question is not whether a resit is possible but whether anything will be different. Re-sitting with the same preparation reproduces the same grade. A resit earns its cost where the diagnosis is specific: a single topic block missing, a timing failure visible on the script, or a technique problem such as never writing method. Where the original grade accurately reflects a student who did not hold the content, the honest advice is usually a different route rather than a second attempt.

How is practical science examined if my child never sits in a lab for it?+

Cambridge science syllabuses assess practical skills through a written component as well as through laboratory work, and the written route tests the thinking rather than the manipulation: identifying variables and how to control them, choosing sensible ranges and repeats, reading instruments to an appropriate precision, spotting an anomalous result, plotting to the conventions the mark scheme specifies and drawing a conclusion the data supports. All of that is teachable over live video with a shared screen and real data, and it is where a large share of the component's marks sit. Confirm which components your child's entry includes on the statement of entry.

Can a Cambridge IGCSE tutor help with coursework?+

With the skill and with feedback, yes; with the text, no. A tutor may teach the underlying technique, explain what the assessment criteria reward, ask questions about a draft the student has written themselves and point out where an argument does not follow. A tutor may not supply wording, restructure a piece line by line or return a rewritten version. The folder must be the student's own work because academic honesty rules make anything else a malpractice matter, and the consequence falls on the student. Good feedback arrives as questions the student answers, not as corrections they accept.

How many sessions does it take to fix exam technique?+

Less time than parents expect, if the diagnosis is specific. A student who never writes method in mathematics, or who answers every explain question with a description, is usually visibly different within four to six weekly sessions, because the correction is an instruction followed by supervised practice rather than new learning. Content gaps are slower and run to a term or more. That is why the first session is spent on a marked script: it establishes which of the two you are buying, and a plan that confuses them either overspends on a quick fix or under-resources a real gap.

Can one tutor teach both Cambridge and Edexcel in the same household?+

In several subjects, yes, and in an Abu Dhabi household it is often necessary, because students here regularly sit Cambridge in some subjects and Pearson Edexcel in others, and siblings may sit different boards in the same subject. What matters is that both specifications are confirmed before any practice material is chosen. The commonest revision waste we see is a term spent on the wrong board's past papers, which looks like diligent work and produces nothing. Ask any tutor directly which specifications they teach rather than which subjects.

Will a tutor send us Cambridge past papers and mark schemes?+

Not from us, and you should be cautious of anyone offering a private library of them. Cambridge syllabus documents, mark schemes and past papers are Cambridge copyright, and distributing them is not something a legitimate provider does. What a tutor should do instead is tell you exactly which document matters for your child's entry, point you at the official pages on cambridgeinternational.org, and work from the material the school has already issued plus official practice. A provider whose main asset is a shared drive of papers has told you what it is selling.

How do I know whether my child should move from Core to Extended?+

Three things decide it: whether the student can already handle the harder question types with support, how much time remains before entries are submitted, and what the post-16 route needs. Core caps the grade available, so a student aiming at a science or mathematics course after Year 11 is usually constrained by it. The timing matters more than the ability: entries close two to three months before the papers, so a realistic tier review sits in the autumn of Year 10. By the spring of Year 11 the conversation has usually become one about technique instead.

Start with the syllabus number and a marked script

Cambridge publishes what it assesses, how it allocates marks and which words it uses to ask questions. A tutor who works from those documents and from your child's own marked papers is doing something different from a tutor who teaches the subject in general, and the difference is visible in a few weeks rather than a few terms. Send us the syllabus numbers, the tiers and the series, and we will say what we think the gap is and whether it is technique or content. The trial lesson is 45 minutes, free, with no card details collected, and every UAE session runs one-to-one over live video.
