Cambridge IGCSE Computer Science 0478 Tutor in Abu Dhabi

Most pages about hiring a Cambridge IGCSE Computer Science 0478 tutor in Abu Dhabi will not tell you a price. This one starts with the AED bands the UAE market actually publishes, explains why this subject sits at the upper end of them, and shows how many hours a grade realistically takes. Lessons are one-to-one over live video, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time, and the first one is free.

  • Market AED bands published openly, with the month they were collected
  • Provider models compared by cost, not by brand
  • 0478 carries no coursework, so no supervision hours to fund
  • Travel time priced out of the equation by online delivery

IB & IGCSE in Abu Dhabi

The price question, answered first, because nobody else answers it

Three of the six highest-ranking tutoring pages for UAE searches publish no price at all, and two of the three that do quote in US dollars, a currency no Abu Dhabi family transacts in. One of them asks the price question in its own list of frequently asked questions and then declines to answer it. So here is the answer, in the currency you pay in, with the month it was gathered: published UAE rates in October 2026 run roughly AED 45 to 150 an hour at the budget and university-student end, AED 150 to 300 for a qualified subject tutor working online, AED 180 to 500 for an in-home visit once travel is priced in, and AED 200 to 450 or more for an IGCSE or A-Level specialist. Premium named tutors are advertised above that, up to around AED 650.

Those are figures other providers publish about themselves, collected from their own rate pages. They are the market, not IB Gram's price list, and the honest position on our own pricing is that it is discussed on the consultation after a free trial lesson rather than printed on a page where it would go stale.

What matters more than the band is which end of it a Cambridge IGCSE Computer Science 0478 tutor sits at, and why. Computer Science is one of the subjects where the hourly rate genuinely runs above the average for an IGCSE, and the reason is supply. The person you need can explain how a two's complement number works, mark a trace table against the mark scheme, and read a student's own broken Python well enough to find the off-by-one error inside five minutes. Teachers who can do the theory are common. Teachers who can do both are not, and the ones who can set their own rate.

There is a cheerful piece of news hiding in the syllabus itself. The current version of 0478 has no coursework component. Everything is assessed by two written papers, so there is no project to supervise, no portfolio to review across a year, and none of the extended supervision hours that drive the cost of a coursework subject upwards. Families budgeting for 0478 are budgeting for teaching and paper practice only, which usually means fewer total hours than a comparable essay subject.

Delivery is one-to-one over live video, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time around the Abu Dhabi school run. IB Gram does not run home visits in the UAE; in-home tutoring is an India-only service. For a subject taught through code and diagrams that is not a compromise, because the natural surface for both is a shared screen, and it removes the travel component that adds AED 180 to 500 an hour to an in-home arrangement before any teaching has happened.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

What a family is actually buying at each stage, and roughly how the cost of 0478 support distributes across the two IGCSE years.

Y9Ages 13-14 · Year 9

Year 9, before the option is chosen

The cheapest intervention available, and the one almost nobody buys. Two or three sessions before the option block closes establish whether a student can hold a sequence of logical steps in their head and whether they enjoy the debugging loop. Students who take 0478 because it sounds modern, and then discover it is an algorithms course, account for a disproportionate share of expensive Year 11 rescues.

Abu Dhabi schools run option evenings in the spring term and Computer Science is frequently presented alongside ICT without the difference being made clear. Two sessions in Year 9 cost a fraction of twenty in Year 11, and the decision they inform is the one with the most money attached.

Y10Ages 14-15 · Year 10

Year 10, when an hour buys the most

Weekly or fortnightly support while the theory topics are first taught, with programming practice running alongside. An hour here is worth two in Year 11 because a misunderstanding about how data is represented gets corrected in one session rather than unpicked from six months of built-on confusion. Total spend over the year is usually lower and the grade outcome better.

The emirate's long mid-year break and the compressed Ramadan term both interrupt programming practice, which decays faster than theory recall. A short fortnightly session held through those weeks costs little and prevents the September restart that so many families pay for twice.

Y11Ages 15-16 · Year 11

Year 11, the expensive year

Where most of the money is spent and where the rate is highest, because demand for specialists peaks in the months before a series. Work is full papers under time, trace tables marked line by line, and targeted theory repair. A family starting from scratch in January is buying roughly double the hours of a family who started in Year 10, at a higher hourly rate.

Abu Dhabi centres sit the June series with entries closed months earlier. Specialist availability in the emirate's evening slots tightens from February, and the rate advertised in that window reflects it. Booking a fixed weekly slot in the autumn is a cost decision as much as an academic one.

POST16Ages 16-18 · post-Year 11

Resit and the move to A-Level

A retake in the November series is a short, intense and relatively cheap block, because the content is largely known and the work is paper production on two or three weak clusters. Students continuing to AS and A-Level Computer Science need something different: the programming step up is substantial and the hours are better spent on code than on revision.

Retake candidates in the emirate may sit as private candidates at a Cambridge exam centre where their school does not enter them, and centres charge their own entry fees separately from tutoring. Budget for both, and confirm the entry deadline before buying any teaching hours.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Subjects Abu Dhabi students commonly take with 0478, and how each one affects the tutoring budget rather than just the timetable.

Cambridge IGCSE ICT (0417)

Single tier

Often confused with Computer Science and priced lower, because practical application skills are easier to source locally. A family deciding between the two should know that ICT is assessed partly through practical papers and 0478 is not, which changes both the teaching and the hourly rate.

Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics (0580)

Core and Extended

The strongest predictor of a 0478 Paper 2 mark. Students secure in Extended maths rarely need extra hours for algorithmic logic; students on Core maths taking 0478 often need a block of algebra and number work first, which is a real line in the budget.

Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics — Additional (0606)

Extended only

Carried by stronger mathematicians. Students taking it almost never need support for the numeric parts of Paper 1, so their 0478 hours concentrate on programming and trace tables, which usually means fewer total sessions.

Cambridge IGCSE Physics (0625)

Core and Extended

A frequent pairing for engineering-minded students. It competes for the same evening slots and the same specialist scarcity, so families taking both in Year 11 should book the fixed times early rather than negotiating them in February.

Cambridge IGCSE Business Studies (0450)

Single tier

Commonly paired with 0478 by students heading towards technology management. It is one of the cheaper subjects to support per hour, which can free budget for the more scarce Computer Science specialist.

Cambridge IGCSE Design and Technology (0445)

Single tier

Includes a substantial coursework element, which is where its cost sits. Pairing a heavy-coursework subject with 0478 is manageable precisely because the Computer Science syllabus adds no supervision hours of its own.

Cambridge IGCSE English as a First Language (0500)

Single tier

Relevant to 0478 because Paper 1 answers are written. Students who lose marks for vague explanations of technical processes are losing them to expression, not knowledge, and English support sometimes buys Computer Science marks more cheaply than more Computer Science does.

Cambridge IGCSE Economics (0455)

Single tier

Another extended-writing subject sitting in the same timetable. Families supporting both should expect the English-style marking load to be the time-hungry one, with 0478 needing fewer but more technical hours.

Cambridge IGCSE Biology (0610)

Core and Extended

Taken by students keeping a science and a computing option. Its content volume is far larger than 0478's, so when budget forces a choice, the hours usually go further in Computer Science, where the syllabus is narrow and the failure modes are specific.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three arrangements families use for 0478, described by what they cost in hours rather than by what they are called. All are one-to-one over live video.

Fortnightly through Year 10

The lowest total spend of any arrangement that works. One session every two weeks while the theory is first taught, with a short programming task set between. Across a year that is roughly twenty sessions, and it usually removes the need for an intensive Year 11 block entirely, which is where the saving actually comes from.

  • Around twenty sessions across the school year
  • Theory corrected as it is taught, not re-taught later
  • A small programming task between every session
  • Booked at the autumn rate rather than the spring one

Weekly through Year 11

The common arrangement and the more expensive one. A weekly session from September, moving to full timed papers after the January mock. Expect roughly thirty sessions over the year. The rate is higher because specialist availability tightens as the series approaches, which is why the slot is worth locking in early.

  • Roughly thirty sessions, weekly, with paper work from January
  • Trace tables marked line by line against the scheme
  • Theory repair only where a paper shows it is needed
  • Fixed slot booked before the February squeeze

Short repair block

Six to eight sessions aimed at two or three specific weaknesses identified by a marked paper. The cheapest useful intervention for a student who is broadly fine and losing marks in a defined place, such as trace tables or file handling. It is also the honest option for a family who wants to test whether tutoring helps before committing further.

  • Six to eight sessions, scope agreed in writing
  • Targets taken from a marked past paper, not from a syllabus tour
  • Re-test of the same question types at the end
  • No rolling commitment after the block closes

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Abu Dhabi

01

What the Abu Dhabi market charges, by provider model

A Cambridge IGCSE Computer Science 0478 tutor in Abu Dhabi is bought from one of about six kinds of supplier, and the hourly difference between them is larger than the difference between any two individuals. The table below compares the models rather than named brands, with the AED bands taken from providers' own published rate pages in October 2026. Lessons from IB Gram are delivered one-to-one over live video, and our own figure is discussed after a free trial rather than printed here.

Two things in that comparison deserve calling out. The first is that the in-home band is not a premium for better teaching; it is a premium for travel. An in-home visit in this emirate is commonly quoted between AED 180 and 500 an hour, and a meaningful part of that is the drive from the island to Khalifa City. If the teaching happens on a screen, that component disappears and the money either buys a better specialist or stays in your pocket.

The second is replacement policy, which almost nobody asks about and which is worth more than AED 50 an hour. A freelance arrangement has no replacement: if the tutor takes a job in another country in March, your Year 11 candidate starts again from scratch six weeks before the paper. A platform or agency that can reassign a specialist, and hand over the marked work, is buying you insurance that is invisible until the week you need it.

Ask three questions of any provider at any price. What happens if the tutor becomes unavailable in exam term. Whether the quoted figure is per hour or per session, and how long a session is. And whether the figure includes the marking of work done between sessions, because in Computer Science the marking of trace tables and code is where a good part of the value sits.

02

Why Computer Science costs more per hour than most IGCSE subjects

The rate for this subject is set by a supply problem rather than by difficulty. Three separate skills have to live in one person. They need the theory: data representation, data transmission, hardware and software, the internet and its uses, automated and emerging technologies. They need the algorithmic half: designing a solution, reading pseudocode accurately, completing a trace table without losing a variable halfway down. And they need to be able to look at a student's own program, running and failing, and find the fault quickly enough that the student learns something from the search.

Plenty of teachers have two of those three. A mathematician can handle algorithms and may not know how a packet is routed. A working software developer can debug anything and has never read a Cambridge mark scheme, which is a serious problem in a subject where an answer can be correct and unmarkable. A general science or ICT teacher may have the theory and not be able to read code at speed. The people with all three set their own price, and in a city the size of Abu Dhabi there are not many of them available at 17:00 on a weekday.

This is where online delivery changes the arithmetic rather than just the convenience. In-home tutoring restricts a family to the specialists within a reasonable drive, and the scarcer the specialism the more that restriction costs. A family in Al Reef choosing from everybody who can teach 0478 well is in a better position, at a lower rate, than the same family choosing from everybody who can teach 0478 well and is willing to drive to Al Reef.

One warning about the top of the band. Rates above AED 500 an hour are often attached to a claim of examiner status. Treat that as a claim to be evidenced rather than a credential. Nobody should imply that examining gives access to papers, boundaries or marking decisions, and a tutor who hints at it is telling you something about their honesty rather than about their teaching.

03

Two papers, no coursework, and what that saves you

Cambridge IGCSE Computer Science is assessed by two written papers in the current syllabus. Paper 1 covers computer systems and Paper 2 covers algorithms, programming and logic. Each runs for one hour and forty-five minutes, each carries seventy-five marks, and each is worth half the grade. There is no coursework component and no pre-release scenario to prepare in advance.

That last fact has a direct effect on cost. In a coursework subject a tutor is drawn into months of supervision: planning conversations, draft feedback, deadline management, and the awkward boundary work of making sure the piece remains the student's own. Those hours are real and they are billed. In 0478 they do not exist. Every hour a family buys goes into teaching, practice and marking, which is why the total number of hours for this subject is often lower than parents expect even when the hourly rate is higher.

The syllabus does still expect practical programming experience, usually in Python, Java or Visual Basic, and that experience is examined indirectly through Paper 2 rather than assessed as a project. The practical consequence is that programming practice has to happen between sessions, not during them. An hour watching a tutor write code is an hour poorly spent; an hour reviewing code the student wrote and broke on their own is the one that moves marks.

Confirm the component structure for your child's exam year on the Cambridge International website. This syllabus has been revised, the pre-release material that older guides describe was removed, and a family revising from a second-hand book may be preparing for a paper that no longer exists.

04

Paper 2 and the marks that are lost rather than missed

  • Trace tables: one column per variable, one row per iteration, every change written
  • Pseudocode written in Cambridge conventions, not a hybrid of habits
  • Algorithm questions answered in the form the question asked for
  • Paper 1 process answers given in the scheme's own terminology
  • Code written by the student between sessions, reviewed in them

There is a distinction worth paying for in this subject: marks a student never knew, and marks a student knew and did not get. Paper 2 is full of the second kind, and they are much cheaper to recover. A family who understands which kind they are buying back will make better decisions about how many hours to commit.

Trace tables are the clearest example. The student understands the loop. They set the table up with one column missing, or they update a variable a row too early, and by line nine the output is wrong and every subsequent mark is gone. Nothing about the algorithm was misunderstood. The fix is a mechanical discipline — one column per variable named before starting, one row per iteration, write every change even when it looks unnecessary — and it takes two or three supervised attempts to install.

Pseudocode syntax is the second. Cambridge's pseudocode has conventions, and answers written in a half-remembered mixture of Python and Cambridge style lose marks that the student's understanding had earned. Students who write code every day in one language are the most prone to this, because their fingers produce the language they know. A tutor who marks to the published scheme catches it immediately; a tutor who only reads for intent does not.

The third cluster is written precision on Paper 1. Questions about how a process works want the steps in order with the right terms, and a candidate who describes the idea in their own loose words is marked down for an answer they essentially knew. Describing a process in exactly the terms the mark scheme pays for is a trainable habit, and it is the single highest return per hour available on the theory paper.

05

How many hours a 0478 grade actually takes

Tutoring is sold by the hour and almost never described in totals, which makes budgeting impossible. The table below sets out the scenarios families in Abu Dhabi actually present, with the number of sessions each typically involves and an indicative monthly figure drawn from the published market bands rather than from our own pricing. These are planning estimates from how these blocks usually run, not predictions about any individual student, and no honest tutor will attach a grade to any of them.

The pattern worth noticing is that early and light beats late and heavy, both academically and financially. A fortnightly session through Year 10 is roughly twenty sessions at the quieter autumn end of the market. A rescue starting in January is thirty or more sessions at the tightest point of the year for specialist availability. The second costs substantially more and starts from a worse position.

For context on what tutoring sits alongside, published monthly estimates for weekly one-hour sessions in the UAE market run around AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle, and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. Monthly packages advertised in the market include roughly AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home sessions. The in-home figure is the one that shows what travel costs.

One caution on tax: do not assume any quoted figure includes or excludes value added tax. Ask the provider directly what the quoted AED number includes, and treat any confident general statement about the UAE tax treatment of tuition, including on this page, as something to verify with the Federal Tax Authority rather than to rely on.

What changes the number in Abu Dhabi specifically

Several things move a 0478 quote in this emirate that have nothing to do with the tutor's ability. Distance is the largest for in-home arrangements: the drive between the island schools and the Khalifa City or Al Reef communities is long enough that a tutor covering it can only teach a handful of students a week, and the rate carries that. Online delivery removes the variable entirely, which is why rates quoted for online sessions do not differ between Saadiyat and Al Shamkha.

Timing is the second. Specialist availability in the evening slots tightens from February as a June series approaches, and the rate advertised in that window reflects scarcity. A family who books a fixed Tuesday slot in September is buying at a different price from a family who starts looking after the January mock, for the same tutor and the same syllabus.

The academic calendar adds two more. The long mid-year break interrupts programming practice, which decays faster than theory, and families who stop entirely often pay again in September for ground they had already bought. The Ramadan term compresses school days and shifts household routines; sessions can move later or to post-Iftar timing, and asking for that is normal rather than awkward.

School fees provide the context families usually want. In Dubai, the Knowledge and Human Development Authority confirmed in May 2026 that there would be no increase in private school fees for the 2026-27 academic year, under an economic incentives package. Abu Dhabi fee regulation sits with its own authority and works differently, so the Dubai announcement is not a statement about this emirate. It is still the right anchor for the comparison most parents are actually making: tutoring is a small fraction of what a private school year costs, and the question is whether these particular hours are aimed at anything.

07

Paying safely: permits, who you are actually paying, and your child's data

Private tutoring in the UAE is a permitted activity rather than an unregulated one, and the paperwork question is part of the price question. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. It is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students. Applications are made through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, whose service page for the permit lists no fees and a two-working-day completion time.

Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit from the ministry are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule has been published, so any figure circulating online should be treated with scepticism rather than repeated. Separately, a tutoring operation with premises and staff is a different legal animal from an individual tutor and needs its own educational services permit from the relevant authority; nobody should describe a platform or a person as holding a regulator's approval unless the permit number can be produced.

In Abu Dhabi there is a further rule worth knowing before you pay anybody. Professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and the code of conduct attached to the private tuition permit also bars serving students affiliated with the teacher's own school. An offer of your child's own classroom teacher, privately, is a risk rather than a shortcut. Verify the current wording against the authority's own policy document.

The last item on the list is the one no competitor page mentions. Signing up for tutoring means handing over personal data about a minor. Ask what is collected, why, how long it is kept and how to have it deleted, and expect a privacy policy rather than a shrug. Under UAE Federal Decree-Law No. 45 of 2021 on personal data protection this is a real obligation, and a provider who cannot answer it is telling you how they handle everything else.

Where we tutor

What 0478 support costs by area in Abu Dhabi, and why it barely varies

In-home rates vary by area because travel is priced in. Online rates do not vary by area at all, which is the single clearest cost argument for this format. These are the communities enquiries come from.

Khalifa City

A long drive from the island schools, so in-home quotes here carry the highest travel loading in the emirate. Online delivery removes it, which is why the largest share of mainland 0478 enquiries now arrive from this corridor.

Al Reem Island

Dense towers where an in-home tutor can see several students in an evening, so travel loading is lower and local quotes are more competitive. Even here the specialist pool for Computer Science is small enough that online widens the choice considerably.

Saadiyat Island

Villa community with longer off-island commutes and correspondingly higher in-home quotes. Families here often choose one longer weekend online session plus a short weekday slot, which costs less than a single in-home visit of the same length.

Yas Island and West Yas

Newer cohorts with many mid-course arrivals. The budget question here is usually diagnostic: a student who joined 0478 in Year 11 may need a block on Year 10 theory that no school has time to revisit.

Al Reef and Al Shamkha

Spread-out communities where a round trip to a tuition centre can exceed the lesson length. Removing the journey is worth more here than the hourly difference between providers, and it is why short midweek sessions are viable at all.

Al Bateen and Al Mushrif

Established mainland neighbourhoods near long-running schools with settled teaching orders. Predictable pacing means fewer emergency hours, which is the quietest cost saving available in any subject.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Abu Dhabi

Mainland corridor — Khalifa City, Al Raha, Yas

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Say which paper is the problem

Paper 1 and Paper 2 fail for different reasons and cost different numbers of hours to fix. If you know the split from a mock, send it. If you do not, the trial lesson produces one, which is a better use of a free hour than a conversation about teaching philosophy.

  2. 02

Take the free trial, one per student

A complete session at no charge, no card details taken, no obligation afterwards. Ask for a short timed question set to be marked inside it so that a dated script exists before any money is discussed. A trial spent entirely on talking tells you very little.

  3. 03

    Ask the three cost questions

What happens if the tutor becomes unavailable in exam term; whether the figure is per hour or per session and how long a session runs; and whether marking of work done between sessions is included. In this subject the marking of code and trace tables is a large part of the value.

  4. 04

    Agree the block, in writing

A number of sessions, a scope taken from a marked paper, and an end point. Open-ended weekly arrangements drift, and drift is where the budget goes. A six to eight session block with a re-test at the end can always be renewed; it is much harder to shorten something that never had an end.

  5. 05

    Programming practice happens between sessions

The student writes code alone and brings what broke. Session time goes on reviewing their own failures rather than watching a tutor type. Families who understand this get far more out of each hour, and need fewer of them across the year.

  6. 06

Review the spend at the halfway point

Halfway through a block, read the marked scripts and the per-topic record together. If nothing has moved, that is the moment to change tutor or change approach rather than to renew. The record exists so that the decision is yours and not a matter of trust.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

A published price band, in AED

Three of the six top-ranking pages in this market publish no price at all, and two of the others quote in dollars. The bands on this page come from providers' own rate pages with the collection month stated, so a parent can compare before making a single enquiry.

Travel priced out, not hidden

In-home visits in this emirate are quoted between AED 180 and 500 an hour and a real part of that is the drive. Online delivery removes it, and the saving either buys a scarcer specialist or stays with the family. IB Gram does not run home visits in the UAE.

Both halves of the specialism

The tutor worth paying for can mark a trace table to the scheme and debug a student's own Python in the same hour. Many can do one. The rate for this subject is set by how few can do both, and online delivery is how an Abu Dhabi family reaches them.

Hours quoted as totals, not just rates

A session count and an end point, agreed in writing, with the scope taken from a marked paper. Open-ended weekly arrangements are how tutoring budgets quietly double, and a block that can be renewed is easier to control than one that never closes.

Claims you can check

No examiner status is asserted without evidence, no regulator approval is implied, and no grade is promised. IB Gram holds no accreditation from ADEK, the Ministry of Education or Cambridge International, and says so on the page rather than in the small print.

Clear about your child's data

Sign-up involves personal information about a minor. What is collected, why, how long it is kept and how to delete it are questions with answers here, which is more than most providers in this market offer.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Abu Dhabi: your questions answered

How much does a Cambridge IGCSE Computer Science 0478 tutor cost in Abu Dhabi?+

Published UAE rates collected in October 2026 run roughly AED 45 to 150 an hour for budget or university-student online tutoring, AED 150 to 300 for a qualified subject tutor online, AED 200 to 450 and above for an IGCSE or A-Level specialist, and AED 180 to 500 for an in-home visit once travel is priced in. Premium named tutors are advertised up to around AED 650. Computer Science usually sits at the upper end because few tutors can teach the theory and debug code. Those are other providers' figures, not ours.

Why is Computer Science more expensive per hour than my child's other IGCSE subjects?+

Supply, not difficulty. The useful 0478 tutor needs three things at once: the systems theory, the ability to read pseudocode and mark a trace table against the scheme, and enough practical fluency to find the fault in a student's own broken program quickly. Mathematicians often have the second, developers the third, and ICT teachers the first. People with all three are scarce in any single city, and scarcity sets the rate. Online delivery is the cheapest way around that, because it removes the geographic restriction.

Does 0478 have coursework, and does that affect what I pay?+

The current syllabus has no coursework component and no pre-release material; everything is assessed through two written papers of one hour forty-five minutes, each worth half the grade. That matters financially. In a coursework subject a tutor is pulled into months of draft feedback and supervision, and those hours are billed. In 0478 they do not exist, so the total hours a family needs are often fewer than for a comparable essay subject even though the hourly rate is higher. Confirm the structure for your child's exam year with Cambridge.

Is an in-home tutor worth the extra cost for a coding subject?+

For this subject the argument runs the other way. The teaching surface is a screen: code, pseudocode, trace tables and diagrams all live there, and a shared screen lets a tutor annotate the student's own work while both watch. An in-home visit in this emirate is commonly quoted between AED 180 and 500 an hour, with the drive from the island to Khalifa City forming part of that. IB Gram does not run home visits in the UAE; in-home tutoring is an India-only service.

How many sessions should we budget for a Year 11 student?+

Around thirty across the year for a weekly arrangement from September, or twenty-five to thirty compressed into five months if the work starts after the January mock. The second is more expensive in two ways: more hours in less time, and higher rates, because specialist evening availability in Abu Dhabi tightens from February as the June series approaches. A fortnightly arrangement through Year 10 is roughly twenty sessions and often removes the need for the Year 11 block altogether.

What is the cheapest intervention that actually works?+

Two or three sessions in Year 9, before the option block closes, to establish whether your child can hold a sequence of logical steps and whether they enjoy debugging. Students who choose 0478 because it sounds modern, and then find it is an algorithms course, make up a large share of expensive Year 11 rescues. After that, the cheapest useful intervention is a six to eight session repair block scoped from a marked paper, with an end re-test and no rolling commitment.

My child understands the algorithms but keeps losing marks on Paper 2. Why?+

Usually trace tables and pseudocode conventions rather than understanding. A trace table set up with a missing column, or a variable updated one row early, produces a wrong output at line nine and loses every mark after it, with nothing misunderstood. Answers written in a hybrid of Python habits and Cambridge pseudocode lose marks the student's knowledge had earned. Both are mechanical and respond to two or three supervised attempts, which makes them among the cheapest marks available to buy back.

Should we pay for 0478 or 0417 support if the budget only covers one?+

Decide on where the marks are being lost, not on the subject names. ICT is assessed partly through practical papers on applications, and local support for it is easier to find and generally cheaper. Computer Science is examined entirely in writing and needs the scarcer specialist. If a marked paper shows practical file-handling errors in ICT and solid Computer Science theory, the money goes to ICT. The reverse is just as common. One marked paper from each settles it in an evening.

Does the price quoted include marking between sessions?+

Ask, because in this subject it changes the value considerably. A large part of what moves a 0478 mark is somebody reading a trace table line by line, or looking at code the student wrote and broke on their own, and returning it with the fault identified. Some providers include that in the session rate; some bill it; some do not do it at all. A quoted figure without this detail is not comparable to another quoted figure, however similar the numbers look.

Is value added tax included in UAE tutoring prices?+

Ask the provider directly what their quoted AED figure includes, and get the answer in writing before committing to a block. The tax treatment of tuition in the UAE is not something to take on trust from a tutoring website, including this one; the authority on it is the Federal Tax Authority. What matters practically is that two quotes are only comparable if you know whether both are inclusive, and whether each is per hour or per session, and how long a session actually runs.

What should I ask to check a tutor is permitted to teach privately here?+

Ask whether they hold the private tuition work permit introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, which is granted free of charge for two years through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. Eligible holders include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Working without a permit attracts fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule has been published, so disregard any specific amount you see quoted online.

A tutor is advertising at AED 600 an hour because they are an examiner. Is that worth it?+

Treat examiner status as a claim to be evidenced, in writing, for that individual and for the current series. More importantly, examining does not give anybody access to papers, boundaries or marking decisions, and a tutor who implies otherwise has told you something about their honesty. What genuinely raises value at the top of the band is detailed knowledge of the mark schemes and the ability to debug live. Ask for a trial lesson and judge whether you can see both inside the hour.

Can the same tutor cover my child's maths as well, to save money?+

Sometimes, and for this particular pairing it is more plausible than most, because Paper 2 of 0478 and Extended Mathematics draw on the same logical habits. The test is evidence rather than enthusiasm: after six weeks, the marked work in both subjects should show movement. Where it only moves in one, the saving was not a saving. For students on Core maths taking 0478, a short block of algebra and number work is often the better buy before any Computer Science hours at all.

We are in Al Reef and the nearest tuition centre is a 25-minute drive. Does that change the cost?+

It changes the real cost considerably, which is why online delivery matters more in the outer communities than the hourly difference between providers does. A round trip plus a session consumes most of an evening, and in-home quotes to these areas carry the travel loading openly. Online rates do not vary between Al Reef, Saadiyat and Al Reem Island, because nothing is being driven anywhere. For many families here it is what makes a short midweek session possible at all.

What information will you hold about my child, and can I have it deleted?+

Signing up involves personal data about a minor: name, year group, school, the subject and the marked work produced in sessions. You are entitled to know what is collected, why it is held, how long it is kept and how to have it removed, and to a privacy policy that states it. UAE Federal Decree-Law No. 45 of 2021 on personal data protection makes this an obligation rather than a courtesy. Ask any provider the same question; the quality of the answer is informative.

What if no 0478 specialist is available at the hours we need?+

You will be told plainly rather than matched with whoever is free. Computer Science is one of the narrower rosters, and the weekday evening slots in the two months before a June series are the hardest to fill. The realistic options are a waiting slot, a different time of day, a weekend session, or a tutor whose strength is the theory paper when a marked script shows the losses sit there. Quietly substituting a non-specialist would cost you money and gain you nothing.

Compare the band before you make an enquiry

You now have the AED bands, the provider models, the session totals and the questions that separate two quotes that look identical. Use them on any provider, including this one. If you want a starting point rather than a comparison, send the mock result with the Paper 1 and Paper 2 split if you have it, take the free trial, and ask inside that hour for a short timed set to be marked. Sessions run one-to-one over live video to Abu Dhabi in Gulf Standard Time, the scope is agreed in writing, and the marked work is yours to keep.
