Cambridge IGCSE Business Studies 0450 Tutor in Abu Dhabi

A Cambridge IGCSE Business Studies 0450 tutor in Abu Dhabi usually gets hired for one reason: Paper 2 marks are not moving. This page sets out what that help costs in dirhams, what pushes the number up or down in this emirate, and how the two 0450 papers differ from each other. Lessons run one-to-one over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time, so a session fits between the school run and dinner rather than competing with both.

  • One-to-one lessons over live video, never a home visit in the UAE
  • Market AED rates published openly, with the date they were read
  • Paper 2 case-study answers marked against the published criteria
  • One free trial lesson first, then you decide about a weekly slot

What a 0450 tutor costs in Abu Dhabi, and what moves the number

Start with the figure, because that is what the search was about. Across published UAE provider rate pages read in October 2026, hourly tuition for a Cambridge IGCSE subject in Abu Dhabi runs from roughly AED 45 at the student-tutor end to AED 650 at the named-specialist end. For Business Studies specifically, most Abu Dhabi families end up transacting somewhere between AED 150 and AED 300 an hour, because 0450 is taught by subject specialists rather than general maths-and-science tutors, and because the marking workload between lessons is real rather than decorative.

The spread is wide for reasons you can control. A Year 10 student starting in September, two terms clear of any exam, needs fewer hours and less urgency than a Year 11 student eight weeks out from the June series. A tutor who only teaches is cheaper per hour than one who also marks two timed Paper 2 answers each week and writes back on them. A single weekly hour costs less than a block bought for the final stretch. Two siblings sharing one slot splits the rate without halving the attention, provided they sit the same paper in the same series.

What IB Gram sells in the UAE is one-to-one teaching delivered live over video, screen shared, with the student's own script on the screen. IB Gram does not make home visits in Abu Dhabi; that service exists only in India. For 0450 this is less of a compromise than parents expect and often an improvement, because the thing a Business Studies candidate needs is somebody who can mark a case-study answer line by line in front of them, and a shared screen does that better than a notebook passed across a table.

The teaching itself is narrower than the subject title suggests. Cambridge IGCSE Business Studies 0450 is assessed by two written papers of ninety minutes each, four twenty-mark questions in each, with no coursework to submit at any point. Almost all the grade movement a tutor can produce sits in the later parts of those questions, where the command word turns from define to analyse and then to recommend. A student who knows every definition in the glossary and still scores in the fives is losing marks on structure, not on knowledge, and that is a diagnosable, teachable problem.

Abu Dhabi adds its own variables. Private schools in the emirate are licensed and inspected by ADEK, the Department of Education and Knowledge, which supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools and publishes its own inspection outcomes. School weeks, holiday dates and internal mock calendars therefore differ from Dubai's in ways that matter when you book a slot. The practical effect is that a session that works for a family in Khalifa City at 5pm may be impossible for one on Al Reem Island, and both are solved by scheduling rather than by paying more.

At a glance

  • Two papers, ninety minutes each, four twenty-mark questions per paper, no coursework
  • Paper 2 is a case study: every answer must name the business in the insert
  • Published Abu Dhabi market rates for IGCSE support: roughly AED 45 to AED 650 per hour
  • Marking between lessons is the cost driver most quotes hide
  • Sessions run in Gulf Standard Time, scheduled around ADEK school calendars

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

0450 sits in the middle of a Cambridge pathway that most Abu Dhabi schools run from Year 7 through Year 13. Knowing what comes before and after it changes how a tutor spends the first month, because a Year 10 student who has never met a balance sheet needs different groundwork from one arriving from a Lower Secondary business course.

Cambridge IGCSE Business Studies

Six syllabus areas: understanding business activity, people in business, marketing, operations management, financial information and decisions, and external influences. Assessed by Paper 1, a short-answer and data-response paper, and Paper 2, a case study built on an insert supplied in the exam. Both papers are ninety minutes and worth half the grade each. Grades run A* to G.

In Abu Dhabi, 0450 is most often a Year 10 option choice in British-curriculum schools licensed by ADEK, taught over two years with a mock in the January or February before the June series. Some schools compress it into a single year for students arriving mid-key-stage from another curriculum, which is the single most common reason an Abu Dhabi family looks for outside help in Year 11.

Cambridge IGCSE Economics

Frequently taken alongside 0450 and frequently confused with it. Economics works at the level of markets, governments and whole economies; Business Studies works inside one firm. The overlap is real in the external-influences topic, where exchange rates, inflation and interest rates appear in both syllabuses, but the command words and the expected depth of diagram work differ sharply.

Several Abu Dhabi schools timetable 0450 and 0455 as alternatives rather than a pair, so the option-block conversation in Year 9 decides which one a student sits. Where a school offers both, students who pick both tend to need help separating the two answer styles rather than help with content, and a tutor can fix that confusion in two or three sessions.

Cambridge International AS & A Level Business

The direct continuation of 0450 for students staying in a Cambridge school. It adds strategic management, deeper finance including investment appraisal, and a far heavier evaluation demand at A2. Students who reached 0450 by memorising definitions tend to stall in the first term of AS, which is why the analysis habits built at IGCSE matter beyond the grade on the certificate.

Abu Dhabi families planning a Cambridge sixth form locally, or a transfer to a UK or Canadian university, usually treat 0450 as the entry test for 9609. Schools in the emirate commonly ask for a grade B or above at IGCSE before admitting a student to AS Business, so the IGCSE grade has a gatekeeping function inside the same building.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IB Diploma Business Management

The alternative post-16 route, taken by students moving from a British-curriculum IGCSE into an IB Diploma school. It replaces Cambridge's case-study insert with a pre-released case study at HL and an internal assessment written on a real organisation. The transferable part of 0450 is the toolkit of business terms; the transferable habit is justifying a recommendation.

Abu Dhabi has a well-established set of IB Diploma schools alongside its Cambridge ones, and movement between the two sectors at sixteen is routine here in a way it is not in most markets. A student finishing 0450 and starting DP Business Management benefits from a bridging block over the summer, mostly on the research and referencing skills the IB assessment requires and Cambridge never asks for.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

A Business Studies tutor rarely arrives alone. The subjects below are the ones Abu Dhabi families most often add to a 0450 booking, usually because the same option block produced two weak grades at the January mock rather than one.

Business Studies (0450)

Cambridge IGCSE

The subject of this page. Teaching concentrates on the later parts of each twenty-mark question, where analysis and evaluation sit, and on the discipline of applying every point to the specific business named in the Paper 2 insert rather than to businesses in general.

Economics (0455)

Cambridge IGCSE

Four units from the basic economic problem through to international trade and development. The common failure is diagram work: students draw a correct supply-and-demand diagram and then write a paragraph that never refers to it. Marks live in the link between the two.

Accounting (0452)

Cambridge IGCSE

Taken by students who liked the financial-information topic in 0450 and wanted more of it. Paper 2 carries seventy per cent of the grade and is punishing about presentation: a correct figure in the wrong statement, or a missing narration, scores nothing.

Mathematics (0580)

Cambridge IGCSE, Core and Extended

The subject behind most of the arithmetic trouble in 0450's finance topic. Students who cannot work confidently with percentages, ratio and simple interest lose Business Studies marks on cash-flow forecasts and break-even calculations that have nothing to do with business knowledge.

English as a First Language (0500)

Cambridge IGCSE

0450 is a written-answer subject and the twelve-mark judgement questions reward controlled, sequenced prose. Students whose English is strong in conversation but loose on paper tend to lose evaluation marks for structure, and work on paragraph discipline transfers directly into Business Studies scores.

English as a Second Language (0510)

Cambridge IGCSE

Many Abu Dhabi candidates sit 0510 alongside 0450. The useful overlap is the writing paper's register work: both subjects reward a clear claim followed by support, and both punish long sentences that lose their subject halfway through.

Global Perspectives (0457)

Cambridge IGCSE

Shares 0450's demand for evidence and perspective but assesses it through coursework as well as an exam. Students who handle the Business Studies evaluation questions well usually find the Individual Report's argument structure familiar, and the reverse also holds.

Computer Science (0478)

Cambridge IGCSE

A common pairing in Abu Dhabi option blocks. The relevance to 0450 is the operations-management topic, where automation, stock-control systems and e-commerce appear as exam contexts, and a student with programming background can usually give sharper examples than the textbook supplies.

Geography (0460)

Cambridge IGCSE

Overlaps 0450 in the location-of-industry and external-influences material, and shares the case-study habit: a named place, specific figures, and a conclusion that commits. Students carrying both subjects can reuse the same revision method across them.

Travel and Tourism (0471)

Cambridge IGCSE

An applied business subject that several Abu Dhabi schools offer alongside 0450, with obvious local context in aviation, hospitality and cultural attractions. Marketing and customer service content overlaps directly, so a tutor can often cover shared ground in one pass.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

0450 support comes in a small number of useful shapes. The one that fits depends on how far the student is from an exam and whether the problem is knowledge or technique.

Weekly one-to-one over live video

The default for a Year 10 or early Year 11 student. One hour a week, screen shared, working through a syllabus area and finishing with a timed question the tutor marks before the next session. Progress is visible because the marked scripts accumulate and a parent can read them.

  • One hour, same slot each week, in Gulf Standard Time
  • A timed answer set and marked between every pair of sessions
  • Written feedback naming the assessment objective that lost the marks
  • Delivered online across Abu Dhabi, with no home visit involved

Paper 2 case-study clinic

A short block aimed at one failure mode: answers that are correct in general and unmarked in particular. Sessions use real past-paper inserts, and the student rewrites the same answer twice, once cold and once after marking, so the difference in score is attributable to one change in method.

  • Four to six sessions, usually booked after a disappointing mock
  • Past-paper inserts worked under exam timing
  • Rewrite-and-remark cycle on the same question
  • Focus on application and evaluation, not on content revision

Pre-series intensive

Booked for the eight weeks before a June or November series. Two sessions a week, each covering one syllabus area and one full twenty-mark question, with a running list of definitions the student keeps failing to state precisely. Intensive blocks are sold as blocks because the marking load is front-loaded.

  • Two sessions a week for six to eight weeks
  • Every syllabus area touched at least once, weakest ones twice
  • A definitions log the student maintains and the tutor audits
  • Full past papers completed under timed conditions near the end

Sibling or study-pair slot

Two students in the same household sitting the same paper in the same series can share a slot. The rate splits, the attention does not halve, and peer pressure on timed answers is useful. It does not work where the two students sit different boards or different series, and a tutor will say so rather than take the booking.

  • Same syllabus, same series, same household or study pair
  • A shared rate rather than two separate bookings
  • Timed answers written simultaneously and compared
  • Declined where the two students are at different stages

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Abu Dhabi

What the Abu Dhabi market charges for IGCSE Business Studies support

  • Rates read from providers' own published pages, October 2026
  • Travel time is priced inside every in-home hourly figure
  • Premium rates are usually block prices quoted per hour
  • A marking-inclusive hour and a teaching-only hour are different products

Published hourly rates for IGCSE tuition reachable from Abu Dhabi span roughly AED 45 to AED 650, and the reason nobody prints that range is that it makes the middle look expensive. The range is real, though, and it maps onto genuinely different products rather than onto negotiating skill. At the bottom sit university students teaching from a textbook. At the top sit individually named tutors sold as a scarce resource. A 0450 candidate needs neither extreme in most cases.

The figures below were read from providers' own published rate pages in October 2026 and are presented as the market, not as IB Gram's price list. Rates in this market move, providers revise their pages without notice, and a figure read today may be stale in a term. Check each provider's own rate page before you treat any number here as a quote. IB Gram's own position is a free trial lesson first and a quoted rate after the subject, year group and marking load are known, because quoting before that is guessing.

Two line items are worth reading carefully. In-home visits in this market price travel into the hourly rate, which is why the in-home band starts above the qualified-online band and tops out higher: you are paying for a car as well as a teacher. And the premium band is almost never sold by the single hour, so an advertised AED 650 is usually the unit price inside a block of ten or twenty, which changes the real commitment considerably.

The six syllabus areas, and which two actually cost marks

Cambridge divides 0450 into six areas: understanding business activity, people in business, marketing, operations management, financial information and decisions, and external influences on business activity. They are not equally difficult and they do not fail students equally. In practice two of them account for most of the lost marks in Abu Dhabi mock results, and neither is the one students complain about.

Financial information and decisions is the first. It asks students to build and interpret cash-flow forecasts, calculate break-even, read a simple income statement and statement of financial position, and then say what the numbers mean for a decision. Candidates lose marks here twice over: once on the arithmetic, and again because they stop at the figure instead of explaining what it implies for the business in the question. A correct break-even output with no comment on whether the target is realistic scores a fraction of the available marks.

External influences is the second. Exchange rates, inflation, interest rates, legal controls, ethics and environmental pressure all appear, and they appear as contexts rather than as topics. A question will describe a firm importing components and then ask what a weaker local currency does to it. Students who learned the definitions can state that imports become more expensive; students who were taught the chain explain the effect on unit cost, on pricing, on demand and then on cash flow, and that chain is where the analysis marks are. Teaching it is a matter of drilling three-step consequences until they become automatic.

The other four areas reward preparation more than insight. Business activity and people in business are definition-heavy and respond well to a maintained glossary. Marketing and operations are context-heavy and respond to worked examples, which Abu Dhabi supplies generously: a student can illustrate segmentation, channel choice and quality management with firms they pass every day.

03

Paper 1 and Paper 2 are two different exams in the same subject

Both 0450 papers last ninety minutes, carry eighty marks, contain four twenty-mark questions and count for half the grade. That symmetry hides a real difference in what they test. Paper 1 presents short pieces of stimulus material, one per question, and moves across the syllabus. Paper 2 supplies a single case study in an insert, and every question draws on it. The same student can score a solid grade on one and a weak grade on the other, and most do.

Paper 1 rewards coverage. Any of the six areas can appear, the stimulus is brief, and a student who has revised unevenly will find the gap. The marks lost here are usually knowledge marks: a definition that is nearly right, a calculation method half-remembered, a two-mark question answered in a paragraph when two words would have scored. The fix is systematic and unglamorous, built on a definitions log and short recall drills rather than on essays.

Paper 2 rewards application, and it is where Abu Dhabi tutors spend most of their time. The insert describes a business with a name, a size, a market, a problem and some figures. Every mark above the basic knowledge tier depends on the answer referring to that specific business. Students who write a textbook-perfect paragraph about motivation theory without once mentioning the firm in the insert collect the AO1 marks and lose the AO2, AO3 and AO4 marks stacked above them. That is the single largest recoverable loss in the whole qualification.

The table below sets the components and the assessment objectives side by side, with the characteristic error for each. Assessment-objective weightings are approximate and Cambridge publishes the authoritative split in the syllabus document for each exam series, so work from the version that matches your child's series.

Command terms: reading the question for what it pays for

0450 command terms are a pricing system. Each one names a skill and carries a predictable mark band, and a student who answers the wrong skill correctly still scores badly. This is the fastest improvement available in the subject, because it requires no new content at all. A Year 11 student in Abu Dhabi who has already covered the syllabus can usually add marks inside three or four sessions purely by learning to read the verb.

The pattern runs in one direction. Define and identify pay for recall and nothing else, so a long answer wastes time that the twelve-mark question will need. Explain pays for a point plus its consequence, which means two sentences, not two points. Analyse pays for a chain, and a chain means the second and third consequence, not a restatement of the first. Discuss and evaluate pay for a decision supported by the rejected alternative, which is the part students skip.

Recommend and justify questions deserve separate attention because they close most Paper 2 questions and carry the heaviest marks. The structure that scores is mechanical: state the choice, give the strongest reason drawn from the insert, state what is wrong with the option you rejected, and close with a condition under which your answer would change. Students resist the last step because it feels like weakness. In the mark scheme it is the difference between a judgement and an opinion.

The table lists the terms with typical mark bands and the error that costs marks on each. Mark allocations vary between papers and series, so treat the bands as typical rather than fixed.

0450 COMMAND TERMS - TYPICAL MARK BANDS AND THE ERROR THAT COSTS MARKS

05

What changes the quote for an Abu Dhabi family

  • Weeks remaining before the series, not the hourly rate, drives total cost
  • Confirm in writing whether marking sits inside the quoted hour
  • A 0450 specialist and a general business tutor are different products
  • Later Gulf Standard Time slots widen the pool of available specialists

Two families in the same building can be quoted different hourly figures for the same subject without either being overcharged. The variables are predictable, and knowing them lets you shape the brief rather than haggle over the rate. The first is distance from the exam. A Year 10 student in October has four terms of runway, and one hour a week with homework between sessions is usually enough. A Year 11 student in March has eight weeks, needs two sessions a week and a far heavier marking load, and the weekly cost roughly doubles for the same hourly rate.

The second variable is what the hour contains. An hour of teaching is cheaper to supply than an hour of teaching plus two marked timed answers and written feedback, and the second is what moves a 0450 grade. Ask any provider directly whether marking is inside or outside the quoted rate, because the answer explains most of the difference between two quotes that look alike. A rate that excludes marking is not cheaper; it is a smaller product.

The third is specificity. A tutor who teaches 0450 specifically, works from the current syllabus and knows the case-study insert format commands more than a general business graduate, and for Paper 2 work the difference shows up in the first session. The fourth is format: a shared sibling slot splits the rate, a group class lowers it further and lowers the attention with it, and a pre-exam block prices differently from an open-ended weekly booking. None of these is a discount to be negotiated. They are different products, and matching the product to the problem is where families actually save money.

One more Abu Dhabi-specific factor: scheduling. Slots in the 4pm to 6pm window are the most contested in the emirate because that is when the school run clears and before evening activities start. Families who can take a 7pm or 8pm Gulf Standard Time slot have more choice of specialist, which matters more than any rate difference when the subject is narrow.

06

Where 0450 fits in the UAE Ministry of Education equivalency count

Parents ask whether Business Studies counts, and the honest answer is that it counts like any other accredited subject. For the British track, the Ministry of Education's equivalency requirements ask students to pass five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates with a grade of no less than E or grade 3, and to show either one accredited subject at Advanced Level with a grade of no less than E or two accredited subjects at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. Business Studies sits inside that five perfectly well.

The detail worth knowing is the exclusion. Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five required subjects for the GCSE and IGCSE count. That surprises families who assumed the mandatory UAE subjects their school teaches would carry equivalency weight, and it changes option-block planning: a student taking Arabic, Islamic education and four academic IGCSEs has four counting subjects, not six. At least one competing tutoring site publishes a six-subject requirement, which is wrong, and acting on it leads to unnecessary extra entries.

IB numbers are a different matter. No IB points threshold for equivalency has been confirmed from the Ministry's own pages for this project, so nothing here states one. If your planning depends on an IB figure, read it on moe.gov.ae or ask the emirate attestation authority directly rather than relying on a tutoring site, including this one. Equivalency is also not something a tutor performs or influences. It is a process you complete with the Ministry, and no tutoring booking is required for it.

For the American track, the same source sets English proficiency at a score of 5 in the IELTS academic test, 61 in the TOEFL iBT, or 450 in the reading and writing section of the SAT, with mathematics requiring at least 450 in the SAT Math test before applying. Those figures matter to Abu Dhabi families whose children switch curricula mid-school, which happens here often.

07

ADEK, your child's school and what a 0450 mock result is telling you

  • ADEK licenses and inspects Abu Dhabi private schools; KHDA does not
  • Ask for the marked mock script, not just the percentage
  • Entry deadlines sit months before the exam and are held by the school
  • A child's own school teacher may not take them as a paid private student

Private schools in Abu Dhabi answer to ADEK, the Department of Education and Knowledge, which supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in the emirate. That is a different authority from Dubai's KHDA and from Sharjah's private education authority, and it matters practically rather than abstractly: inspection cycles, calendar dates and reporting formats differ, so advice written for a Dubai parent does not transfer cleanly to Abu Dhabi.

What a school report gives you about 0450 is usually a predicted grade and a mock percentage, and neither is as informative as the mock script. Ask for the marked paper. A mock mark of fifty-two per cent can mean two entirely different things: a student who scored well on knowledge parts and nothing on the twelve-mark questions, or one who was thin everywhere. The first is eight weeks of technique work. The second is a content rebuild. No tutor can tell which without reading the script, and a parent who brings the script to a first session saves an hour of diagnosis.

The second thing to ask the school is which series the student is entered for and when the final entry deadline falls. Cambridge entry deadlines sit months before the exam itself, and the school handles entries, not the family, so the deadline is only visible if you ask. A late discovery that a student is entered for a series they are not ready for is a scheduling problem, not a teaching one, and it is far easier to solve in October than in March.

One caution worth stating plainly, because it affects who you can legally hire in this emirate: Abu Dhabi's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from giving paid private tuition to students enrolled at their own school, and teachers tutoring outside school hours are required to hold the MoHRE private tuition work permit, whose code of conduct bars serving students affiliated with their own school. That is press-reported rather than quoted from the policy document, so verify it against current ADEK guidance before relying on it. The practical consequence is simple: your child's own class teacher is not an option.

08

What a tutor may and may not do with a student's work

0450 has no coursework, which removes the academic-honesty question that dominates IB subjects and some other IGCSEs. Nothing a student submits for Business Studies is written at home and sent to Cambridge. Every mark comes from two invigilated papers. That makes the tutoring boundary unusually clean, and it is worth stating because the surrounding market is not clean at all.

The boundary still matters for school-assessed work. Abu Dhabi schools set internal assignments, projects and mock papers that feed predicted grades, and predicted grades feed sixth-form and university applications. A tutor's job on that work is to teach, question and give feedback on what the student has produced. A tutor does not supply sentences for submission, does not edit a piece until the authorship is unclear, and does not sit alongside a student during a timed school assessment. Any provider willing to cross that line is selling your child a risk, not a service.

What a tutor can legitimately do is more useful than what they cannot. They can mark a past-paper answer against the published criteria and show which assessment objective failed. They can model a twelve-mark structure on a different question and then make the student build their own on the one that matters. They can audit a definitions log, run recall drills, and set timed conditions the student will not impose on themselves. They can read a mock script and name the three changes worth making. None of that involves authoring anything.

Published syllabus material deserves the same discipline. A tutor should reference the Cambridge syllabus and past papers and point you to cambridgeinternational.org to obtain them through your child's school, not supply them as downloads. Reproducing exam board material is a copyright matter, and with unreleased papers it is a malpractice exposure for the student.

09

Booking a 0450 slot around the Abu Dhabi school week

  • Three usable weekday windows, with the widest specialist choice after 7pm
  • January and February are peak demand; October bookings get better choice
  • Ramadan sessions commonly shift to post-Iftar timing by agreement
  • Bring the marked mock script to the trial lesson

Scheduling decides whether tuition works more often than teaching quality does, because a session a student is too tired to use is wasted at any rate. The Abu Dhabi weekday sorts itself into three windows. The first, from roughly 3.30pm to 5pm, suits students in Khalifa City, Al Raha and the island communities with short commutes. The second, 5.30pm to 7pm, is the widest window and the most contested. The third, after 7pm, is the one mainland families and those with long drives actually use, and it is the window where specialist availability is best.

The academic year has its own shape here. Internal mocks cluster in January and February for June-series candidates, and that is the moment most Abu Dhabi 0450 bookings begin, which is also why specialists are hardest to find then. Starting in October or November costs the same per hour and buys a far better choice of tutor. The weeks around Ramadan need deliberate planning: sessions commonly move to post-Iftar timing, and families who agree that shift in advance keep their continuity instead of losing a month.

Travel is the other recurring factor. Abu Dhabi families move during school holidays and often across time zones, and a weekly slot that only exists in Gulf Standard Time breaks when the family is away. Online delivery holds through that, provided the time difference is agreed before the trip rather than after it. A student revising in another country can keep the same tutor and the same marking cycle, which is the practical difference between a continuous programme and a stop-start one.

Getting started is deliberately short. Send the marked mock script, the school's 0450 scheme of work if you have it, and the series the student is entered for. A trial lesson follows, free and limited to one session, in which the tutor works a past-paper question with the student rather than interviewing them. After it you get a written note on what is actually wrong and how many weeks it should take. If no 0450 specialist is free in the slot you need, you will be told that rather than offered a general business tutor in their place.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi is spread out, and that geography is the practical argument for online delivery rather than a marketing line. Below is what a weekday session realistically looks like from the communities where most 0450 candidates live.

Al Reem Island

Dense apartment living with a long causeway commute to the island's schools. Families here often finish the school run after 4pm, which makes a 5.30pm or 6pm slot the first workable one on a weekday.

Khalifa City

Villa communities feeding several British-curriculum schools, with internal mock timetables that cluster in late January. A 4pm start is usually possible here, and that extra ninety minutes matters when a Paper 2 drill needs a full timed answer.

Al Raha Gardens and Al Raha Beach

Short school commutes but heavy after-school activity schedules. Business Studies sessions here are most often booked as a single weekly hour with marking in between, rather than as two shorter slots.

Yas Island

A newer residential catchment where many families moved mid-key-stage. That produces more Year 11 starters who met 0450 only one year ago, and a correspondingly heavier first month of groundwork on the finance topic.

Al Bateen and Al Mushrif

Older established neighbourhoods close to the city's longest-running British schools. Students here are more likely to have followed the full two-year 0450 course, so help tends to be technique-focused rather than content-focused.

Mohammed Bin Zayed City and Mussafah

Longer drives to the island schools and the latest realistic session starts in the emirate. Evening slots after 7pm Gulf Standard Time are the norm, which online delivery can hold and a travelling tutor generally cannot.

Al Reef and Al Shamkha

Growing mainland communities with a wide mix of curricula in one street. Siblings here frequently sit different boards, so a household may need a 0450 specialist and an Edexcel tutor on separate evenings.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Abu Dhabi

Island and Al Mushrif corridor

The emirate's longest-established British-curriculum schools sit here, and most run 0450 as a two-year Year 10 to Year 11 course with a formal mock in the spring term. Students from these schools usually arrive with good notes and weak timed-answer technique.

  • The British School Al Khubairat
  • Al Bateen Academy
  • Al Muna Academy
  • Abu Dhabi International School
  • The British International School Abu Dhabi
  • Merryland International School

Khalifa City and Al Raha

A dense cluster of newer schools with large year groups and a high proportion of students who joined mid-course from another country. Business Studies classes here are often taught in sets, and the lower set moves through the finance topic quickly.

  • Al Yasmina Academy
  • Raha International School
  • Reach British School
  • GEMS American Academy - Abu Dhabi
  • Amity International School Abu Dhabi

Saadiyat, Yas and Al Reem

Newer premium campuses with mixed curriculum offerings, including schools that run both Cambridge and IB routes in the same building. Option-block advice here is the most common reason a parent contacts a tutor before any grade problem appears.

  • Cranleigh Abu Dhabi
  • Brighton College Abu Dhabi
  • Repton School Abu Dhabi
  • West Yas Academy
  • Mamoura British Academy

Schools are named here as context for the Abu Dhabi 0450 landscape. IB Gram has no affiliation with, endorsement from, or commercial relationship with any school listed.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the script, not the symptoms

The useful first message is the marked mock paper, the entered series and the year group. A description of the problem is less informative than the paper, because the paper shows whether marks were lost on knowledge, application, analysis or evaluation. That distinction decides the whole plan.

  2. 02

    Free trial lesson, one session

A 0450 specialist works a past-paper question with the student rather than asking them how they feel about business. One session, no charge, no card needed to book it. You see the teaching before any money is discussed, and the tutor sees the gap before any plan is written.

  3. 03

A written diagnosis and a quoted rate

After the trial you get a short note naming the assessment objective that is failing, the syllabus areas that need rebuilding, and a realistic number of weeks. The quoted hourly rate follows that, because it depends on the marking load, and quoting before the diagnosis would be a guess.

  4. 04

A fixed weekly slot in Gulf Standard Time

One slot, same time each week, agreed around the school run and activities rather than around the tutor's convenience. Sessions run live over video with screens shared. Where a family travels, the time difference is agreed in advance so the slot survives the trip.

  5. 05

    Marked work between every session

A timed question is set, written and marked before the next lesson, with feedback that names the criterion rather than the mood. The marked scripts accumulate into the only honest progress record there is, and a parent can read them without asking anybody how it is going.

  6. 06

    Reassess at six weeks

Six weeks produces enough marked work to tell whether the plan is working. At that point the session frequency goes up, stays flat or stops, and the tutor says which. A programme that is not moving marks should end rather than continue out of habit.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The rate is published, with its date

Market AED bands on this page carry the provider that published them and the month they were read. Three of six researched competitor pages print no price at all and two quote US dollars. Showing the number and its source lets you judge a quote instead of accepting one.

Online is the method, stated plainly

Lessons in the UAE run one-to-one over live video. IB Gram does not make home visits in Abu Dhabi, and nothing on this page suggests otherwise. Home tutoring is a service offered only in India, and pretending otherwise on a UAE page would be a promise nobody could keep.

Marking is part of the hour

A 0450 grade moves when timed answers are written, marked against the criteria and rewritten. Teaching without marking is a cheaper product that leaves the main failure mode untouched, so marked work between sessions is built into how a slot is quoted.

Subject-specific, not subject-adjacent

A 0450 session is taught by somebody who works from the current syllabus and knows the case-study insert format, not by a business graduate improvising from a textbook. On Paper 2 technique the difference is visible inside one lesson.

Availability is disclosed, not hidden

If no Business Studies specialist is free in the slot you need, you are told so. The alternative that other platforms use, substituting a general tutor and hoping, wastes a term. Where a UAE-based specialist is unavailable, the fallback and its rate are stated before you commit.

Honest about what a tutor cannot do

No grade promises, no guaranteed improvement, no authoring of school-assessed work. A tutor teaches, marks and advises. Any provider offering more than that in a written-exam subject with no coursework is selling something other than teaching.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Abu Dhabi: your questions answered

What does a Cambridge IGCSE Business Studies 0450 tutor charge per hour in Abu Dhabi?+

Published rates for IGCSE tuition reachable from Abu Dhabi ran from about AED 45 to AED 650 an hour when provider pages were read in October 2026. Most 0450 bookings settle between AED 150 and AED 300, because the subject needs a specialist and because marking timed answers between lessons takes real time. The number moves with how many weeks remain before the series, how many sessions a week you need, and whether marking sits inside the quoted hour. IB Gram quotes after a free trial lesson rather than before, since a quote given without seeing the student's marked work is a guess.

Why does my son score well on Paper 1 but badly on the 0450 case study?+

Because they test different things. Paper 1 pays mostly for knowledge across the six syllabus areas, and a student with good notes does well on it. Paper 2 supplies a named business in an insert, and almost every mark above the basic tier depends on the answer referring to that business specifically. A textbook-perfect paragraph about motivation that never mentions the firm collects the knowledge marks and loses the application, analysis and evaluation marks stacked above them. It is the largest recoverable loss in the qualification and it responds to four to six sessions of rewrite-and-remark work on real inserts.

Is Business Studies 0450 an easier IGCSE than Economics 0455?+

They are difficult in different places, and neither is a soft option. Business Studies works inside one firm and asks for applied judgement about decisions, so the marks sit in evaluation and in tying every point to a named business. Economics works at market and national level and asks for diagram work that must be referred to in the prose, not just drawn. Students who write fluently but dislike graphs usually find 0450 more comfortable; students who think in models often prefer 0455. The overlap is the external-influences material, where exchange rates, inflation and interest rates appear in both.

How many 0450 sessions a week does a Year 11 student in Abu Dhabi usually need?+

One a week is enough through most of Year 11 if the student does the marked work between sessions. Two a week becomes sensible in the eight to ten weeks before a June series, or immediately after a mock result that showed losses across several syllabus areas rather than in technique alone. More than two a week rarely helps, because the limiting factor is how much timed writing a student can produce and absorb feedback on, not how many hours a tutor is available. Frequency should be reviewed at six weeks against the marked scripts rather than set once and left.

Does Cambridge IGCSE Business Studies have any coursework to submit?+

No. 0450 is assessed entirely by two written papers taken under exam conditions, each ninety minutes, each worth eighty marks and half the grade. Nothing is written at home and sent to Cambridge. That removes the academic-honesty question that complicates IB subjects and coursework-based IGCSEs. School-set assignments and projects still exist and still feed predicted grades, and the boundary there is the same as everywhere: a tutor teaches, questions and gives feedback on work the student has written, and never supplies sentences for a submission or edits a piece until the authorship is unclear.

Can a 0450 tutor mark my daughter's past papers between lessons?+

That is the part of the service that moves the grade, so yes, and you should check it is included before comparing two quotes. The cycle that works is simple: a timed question is set at the end of a session, written under exam conditions, marked against the published criteria, and returned with feedback naming the assessment objective that failed rather than a general comment. The marked scripts then accumulate into a record a parent can read directly. An hourly rate that excludes marking is not cheaper than one that includes it; it is a smaller product that leaves the main problem untouched.

Does Business Studies count towards the UAE Ministry of Education equivalency subjects?+

It counts like any other accredited academic subject. The British-track requirement is five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at a grade of no less than E or grade 3, plus one accredited subject at Advanced Level at no less than E or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. The detail families miss is the exclusion: Arabic and Islamic education are not counted among the five. So a student taking those two plus four academic IGCSEs has four counting subjects, not six. Verify current requirements on moe.gov.ae, because equivalency is a Ministry process, not something a tutor performs.

My child's Abu Dhabi school teaches 0450 in Year 10 only. Is that a problem?+

It is a known pattern in this emirate and it is manageable, but it changes the plan. A one-year 0450 course means the finance topic and the external-influences chain arrive quickly, with less time to consolidate before mocks. Students who joined mid-key-stage from another curriculum feel it most, because they meet cash-flow forecasts and break-even analysis for the first time under time pressure. The first month of tutoring in that situation is groundwork on the financial-information area rather than exam technique, and technique work starts once the arithmetic and the statement formats are secure.

Should my child sit 0450 in the June series or the November series?+

The school decides the entry, not the family, so the first step is to ask which series your child is entered for and when the final entry deadline falls. Cambridge runs a June series and a November series for IGCSE, and most Abu Dhabi British-curriculum schools enter candidates for June at the end of Year 11. November is used for resits and for students who joined late. Entry deadlines sit months ahead of the papers themselves, which is why a late discovery that a student is unready becomes a scheduling problem rather than a teaching one.

What is the difference between analyse and evaluate in 0450 mark schemes?+

Analyse pays for a chain of consequence. A weaker currency raises the cost of imported components, which raises unit cost, which forces a price rise or squeezes margin, which affects cash flow. Three links score where one does not. Evaluate pays for a judgement that weighs both options and commits. The structure the mark scheme rewards is: state the choice, give the strongest reason drawn from the case, say what is wrong with the option you rejected, and name a condition that would change your answer. Students skip the last two steps because they feel like weakness, and that is where the marks are.

Will an online 0450 tutor work for a student who is weak at writing in English?+

Often better than an in-person session, because the whole lesson happens on a shared screen where the student's own sentences can be rebuilt in front of them. 0450 is a written-answer subject and the twelve-mark questions reward controlled, sequenced prose, so paragraph discipline is part of the subject teaching rather than a separate problem. Sessions in that situation spend time on sentence structure inside business answers, not on general English work. Where the underlying English level is the main barrier, a tutor will say so and recommend parallel support rather than charging for 0450 hours that cannot land.

Do you have a 0450 tutor free after 7pm Gulf Standard Time?+

The window after 7pm is usually the easiest to fill, which is useful to know if your family lives in Mohammed Bin Zayed City, Mussafah or another mainland community with a long school commute. The contested window in Abu Dhabi is 5.30pm to 7pm, when the school run has cleared and evening activities have not started. Families who can take a later slot get a wider choice of subject specialist, and on a narrow subject like Business Studies that matters more than a small difference in rate. If nothing is free in the slot you need, you will be told rather than offered a substitute.

Is 0450 useful if my child wants to study business at a UAE university?+

It is useful preparation and it is not a requirement, and nobody should tell you otherwise. For admission, what counts is the full IGCSE profile, the post-16 qualification and the Ministry equivalency the university asks for, not any single subject. Where 0450 earns its place is in the transition: students who arrive at a business degree already able to read a statement of financial position, build a cash-flow forecast and justify a decision in writing start ahead. It also feeds directly into Cambridge AS and A Level Business 9609 and into IB Diploma Business Management for students staying in Abu Dhabi for sixth form.

What should I send a tutor before the first 0450 lesson?+

Three things, and the first matters most. Send the marked mock script, not the percentage, because a fifty-two per cent can mean a student who scored on knowledge and nothing on the twelve-mark questions or one who was thin everywhere, and those need different plans. Send the school's 0450 scheme of work or topic order if you have it, so sessions run alongside the class rather than against it. And send the series your child is entered for. With those three, a first session can start teaching instead of spending an hour working out what is wrong.

Start with the marked paper

If your child is sitting Cambridge IGCSE Business Studies 0450 in an Abu Dhabi school and the mock came back lower than expected, the next useful step is small. Find the marked script and send it with the series they are entered for. A 0450 specialist will work a past-paper question with them in a free trial lesson, one session, and write back on which assessment objective is actually costing marks and roughly how many weeks it should take to fix. Lessons run one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time. If no specialist is free when you need one, you will hear that instead of being handed a substitute.
