IB Tutor near me in Abu Dhabi

Typing "IB tutor near me" in Abu Dhabi is a request for two different things at once: a teacher who knows the Diploma Programme, and someone who can actually be in front of your child on a Tuesday at half past four. In this emirate those two requirements pull against each other, because the specialist pool for Higher Level Physics or Paper 3 Economics is not distributed by postcode. IB Gram resolves it by teaching one-to-one over live video, so the radius stops mattering and the subject match starts to.

  • Lessons are one-to-one over live video; no tutor travels to a UAE address
  • Availability stated by subject and level before you commit, not after
  • Permit position explained with the resolution number and the official route
  • Slots fixed in Gulf Standard Time against your community's school run

IB & IGCSE in Abu Dhabi

The problem with searching by radius

A search for an IB tutor near me in Abu Dhabi is usually driven by logistics rather than pedagogy. School finishes somewhere between half past two and half past three. There is a drive home. There is homework, and in most households there is a younger sibling with a different timetable. Inside that window a parent is looking for something that will not collapse the evening, and "near" feels like the variable that protects it. For in-home tutoring it genuinely is: a tutor who lives twenty minutes away can hold a half past four slot, and one who lives forty minutes away cannot.

The difficulty is that proximity and specialism are close to independent of each other. The Diploma Programme is six subjects at two levels with eight or nine pieces of assessed coursework, and the help a student needs is almost always narrower than a subject. A Chemistry HL candidate losing twelve marks on organic mechanisms needs a tutor who marks organic mechanisms. The chance that such a person lives within twenty minutes of Al Reef, is free at half past six, and is not already booked by three other families in the same compound is not high. Searching by radius quietly converts a subject requirement into whoever is available.

Abu Dhabi makes this sharper than most cities because the emirate is spread across three belts that do not behave like one city. The island holds long-established schools and short internal distances, but pickup queues and parking eat the time that distance saves. The Khalifa City, Shakhbout City, Al Raha Gardens and Al Raha Beach corridor is the densest concentration of international provision in the emirate and has a genuinely short internal commute. The newer mainland communities - Al Shamkha, Al Falah, Al Reef, Al Samha, Mohammed Bin Zayed City, Baniyas - are where the drives get long and where the local tutor pool thins out at exactly the same time.

Private schools across all three belts are overseen by the Department of Education and Knowledge, which supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in the emirate. Families moving in from Dubai sometimes assume the Knowledge and Human Development Authority covers them; it does not. One practical consequence is that school listings, inspection reports and fee rules all sit with a different authority, and so does the school calendar your tutoring plan has to fit around.

IB Gram's answer is to remove distance from the equation entirely. Tutoring for Abu Dhabi families is delivered one-to-one over live video, and we do not make home visits in Abu Dhabi; in-home tutoring is a service we offer only in India. What that buys is a different shortlist. Instead of the three tutors willing to drive to Al Samha at seven, you are choosing from the tutors who teach that subject at that level, and the slot is set by your child's school run rather than by somebody else's traffic. The rest of this page is the arithmetic behind that claim: drive times by community, availability by subject, the permit position, and what the local market charges for the travel you would otherwise be funding.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

A request for a tutor near you can come from any stage of the IB, and the stages behave differently when you remove travel from the plan. Younger students benefit from shorter, more frequent sessions, which only works if nobody is driving. Diploma students need a specialist for a specific component, which is where the radius hurts most.

PYPAges 3-12 · FS1 to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

Inquiry-based learning with no external assessment, so the useful work is fluency: reading accuracy, number facts, written structure and the habit of explaining a method. Younger children concentrate better in thirty to forty-five minutes than in an hour, and two short sessions a week beat one long one. That pattern is only affordable in time terms when nobody has to travel to deliver it.

Primary enquiries in Abu Dhabi cluster in the newer mainland communities, where families are furthest from the island schools and least willing to add a second car journey to the evening. Two thirty-minute sessions on a shared screen, immediately after the school run, is the shape that survives a term in Al Reef or Al Shamkha.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Four criteria per subject on an eight-point scale, converted to a 1-7 grade by the school. The marking is the thing families cannot interpret, and a tutor who has read the school's criteria descriptors is worth more than one who merely knows the content. MYP 4 and 5 also carry the personal project and the Diploma subject decision in the same eighteen months.

The Khalifa City and Al Raha corridor produces most of our Abu Dhabi MYP work, partly because the IB continuum schools sit there and partly because criteria-based marking first becomes decisive in MYP 4. Sessions here can genuinely start at half past four, which makes a weekly rhythm easy to hold.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Six subjects, three at Higher Level, plus the Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge and CAS. This is where the radius problem is most acute: the help needed is component-specific, the specialist pool for Higher Level sciences and Paper 3 papers is thin in every market, and the student has the least spare time in the week to absorb a long commute.

Abu Dhabi Diploma cohorts sit the May session and the school builds its internal deadlines backwards from it. Confirm the examination window and results dates with the school's DP coordinator or on ibo.org rather than from a tutoring site. What a tutor can plan around confidently is the school's own mock window, usually between December and February of DP2.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Availability is the honest subject of this page, so the grid below is organised by how findable a specialist actually is rather than by syllabus order. Each entry names the level, what the component load looks like, and whether the pool for it is deep or thin in this time zone.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Two papers at SL, three at HL, plus a 20-mark exploration. The SL pool is the deepest of any DP subject; the HL Paper 3 pool is noticeably thinner, because marking two long multi-part problems well is a narrower skill than teaching calculus.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Modelling and statistics with a calculator or software assumed throughout. Marks are lost in interpretation rather than method: a correct regression with no sentence about what the gradient means in context scores half of what it could.

Physics

HL and SL

Two papers plus a 20% scientific investigation. Higher Level Physics specialists are in demand across the whole Gulf at the same points in the year, so this is the subject where a match most often takes a few days rather than a day.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Structure and reactivity across two papers plus the investigation. Organic mechanisms and energetics carry the heaviest concentration of lost marks at Higher Level, and the pool tightens sharply in the weeks before school mocks.

Biology

HL and SL

Concept-led content with heavy command-term weighting. The pool is reasonable at both levels, and the most requested work is criterion-based feedback on the scientific investigation rather than content teaching.

Economics

HL and SL

Three commentaries as the internal assessment, diagrams expected throughout, and at Higher Level a Paper 3 that rewards calculation plus evaluation. Finding someone who marks Paper 3 specifically is harder than finding an economics teacher.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Unseen analysis, comparative essay, individual oral, and at Higher Level a 1,200-1,500 word essay. Paper 1 support is widely available; the Higher Level essay is a narrower specialism and often best handled as a short block.

Arabic A and Arabic B

HL and SL

Literature at A level and language acquisition at B level, with oral components to prepare. This is the one subject group where a UAE-based tutor has a real advantage, because the school context and the parallel Ministry requirement both matter.

Business Management

HL and SL

Case-study papers and a research-based internal assessment. Marks go missing where a tool is applied mechanically without a judgement about the business in the stimulus material.

Computer Science

HL and SL

System fundamentals and computational thinking, with a developed solution as the internal assessment. Students build something that works and then under-document the design decisions the criteria reward.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways Abu Dhabi families use online one-to-one tutoring once distance stops being the organising constraint. All three use the same tutors and the same delivery; what changes is the shape of the commitment and where it sits in the school year.

A fixed weekly slot

One subject, one level, the same time every week, held for the term. The fixed time is doing more work than it looks: a session that moves around the calendar is the first thing dropped when a school trip or a mock timetable appears. Because nothing is travelling, the slot can sit right after the school run or late in the evening without changing the price.

  • The same hour each week, set in Gulf Standard Time
  • A short written note after each session naming what was fixed
  • Marked past-paper questions against the current mark scheme
  • No travel surcharge, because nobody is travelling

Short specialist block

Four to eight sessions with a narrow specialist, used when the problem is one component rather than a subject: Paper 3 technique, the Higher Level English essay, criterion D of a scientific investigation. Blocks are how we handle subjects where the specialist pool is thin, because a scarce tutor can give you eight concentrated hours even when they cannot give you a weekly slot for a year.

  • Scoped to one component with a stated end point
  • Booked against the school's own deadline, not ours
  • Priced and planned as a block so there is no open commitment
  • The route we recommend for Higher Level sciences before mocks

Travelling and relocating families

Abu Dhabi households move more than most. Because sessions are online, the same tutor continues through a summer in another country, a half-term abroad, or a mid-year relocation, with only the clock changing. For families who leave the UAE permanently, the plan carries over without a new search and without losing the term's continuity.

  • The tutor follows the student, not the address
  • Slot recalculated against the new local time, same tutor
  • Useful for families splitting the summer between countries
  • No gap in the plan during a relocation

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Abu Dhabi

01

What "near me" actually buys, and what it costs

Proximity buys three real things. It buys a tutor who can physically be present, which matters for very young children and for students who genuinely will not engage with a screen. It buys local knowledge: a tutor teaching in Abu Dhabi knows which schools set which internal deadlines and how the emirate's term dates fall. And it buys a kind of accountability that some families value, where the person teaching your child is someone you have met in your own living room.

It costs three things in return, and they are rarely itemised. The first is choice. A twenty-minute radius around Al Samha contains a small number of IB tutors and a smaller number who teach the subject and level you need. The second is money: the in-home band in this market runs AED 180-500 an hour, against AED 150-300 for a qualified subject tutor working online, and a share of that gap is the driving. The third is reliability. A session that depends on a car arriving at half past six in Abu Dhabi afternoon traffic will be cancelled several times a term, and the cancellations cluster in the weeks when they hurt most.

The trade only looks obvious once you decide what the tutoring is for. If the job is homework supervision and company while a Year 7 student works, proximity is worth a lot and specialism is worth little. If the job is finding the eleven marks disappearing from Physics Paper 2 extended response, specialism is worth almost everything and proximity is worth nothing at all, because the diagnosis happens on a shared screen with the student's own script open.

IB Gram only does the second job, which is why we deliver online and say so before anything else. We do not send a tutor to a UAE address, and in-home visits in Abu Dhabi are not something we sell at any price; that service exists only in India. The comparison below is the one we give parents who ask us to justify it.

The Abu Dhabi school run, and what it does to a half past four session

Most private schools in the emirate release students between about half past two and half past three. Everything after that is geography. The island is compact, but the delay there is not distance: it is the pickup queue and the parking, which routinely add twenty minutes to a five-minute journey. The Khalifa City and Al Raha corridor has the shortest real-world school run in Abu Dhabi, because the schools and the housing are in the same place. The mainland communities have the longest, and they get longer at the afternoon peak.

The practical effect is that the same nominal slot means different things in different communities. A half past four session is comfortable in Khalifa City, tight on Saadiyat, and unrealistic in Al Reef. Families who book the slot that sounds convenient rather than the slot that matches the drive lose the first month to late starts, and then conclude that tutoring does not work for them. It is worth being pessimistic about the drive when choosing the time, because the slot you can keep is worth more than the slot you would prefer.

The second thing the calendar does is seasonal. Ramadan moves about eleven days earlier each year and now falls inside the spring term, which is also the window in which most Abu Dhabi schools run Diploma mocks. School days shorten during Ramadan, which frees the afternoon, but concentration moves to after Iftar for many families. Sessions can shift to a post-Iftar slot for the month and move back afterwards; what does not work is pretending the month is the same as any other and then cancelling half of it.

Because our delivery is online, the latest workable slot is set by the student's stamina rather than by a tutor's drive home. That is the one scheduling advantage worth naming plainly: a nine o'clock session in Al Samha is a reasonable request to us and an unreasonable one to anybody who would have to get there.

Why the subject you need is the one nobody local teaches

Scarcity in IB tutoring is not random. It follows the assessment. Standard Level Mathematics is taught by a large number of people because the content is widely held and the papers are conventional. Higher Level Mathematics Paper 3, which is two extended multi-part problems, is taught well by far fewer, because it requires someone who has marked that paper type and knows how partial credit falls across the sub-parts. The same pattern repeats in every subject group: the general version is abundant and the component-specific version is thin.

Then the calendar concentrates it. Diploma mocks in Abu Dhabi usually fall between December and February, and the same few weeks see Higher Level science and Paper 3 specialists booked out across the Gulf simultaneously. A family searching in November has a wide choice. The same family searching in January has a narrow one, at a higher price, with a longer wait. Nothing about this is specific to one provider; it is the shape of demand in a market where every school's internal calendar runs off the same session.

The group where scarcity is structural rather than seasonal is the arts. Visual Arts, Music, Theatre and Film are thin in every market we operate in, and a tutoring site that implies otherwise is telling you something about its marketing rather than its roster. Our position on those subjects is to say no when we cannot cover them properly and to tell a family when that changes, because placing a generalist on a Visual Arts comparative study wastes a term that the student does not have.

Where a UAE-based tutor does carry a genuine advantage is Arabic. Arabic A and Arabic B students in Abu Dhabi are usually also meeting the Ministry requirement for Arabic alongside their licensed curriculum, and a tutor inside the system understands how those two bodies of work interact in one week. For that subject we prioritise UAE-based tutors deliberately. For Physics HL we do not, because the component skill matters more than the postcode.

Checking that a tutor near you is permitted to teach in the UAE

Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated, and a surprising number of pages in this market either skip the subject or imply it is optional. It is not. The private tutor work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is administered by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. It is granted free of charge for two years. The official service is named Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, applied for through the ministry's smart app, website and e-services system, with a stated completion time of two working days.

The eligible categories are broader than most parents expect: teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students. That last pair is worth noticing when a very low hourly rate is quoted to you, because a permit says a person may tutor legally; it says nothing about whether they can teach Higher Level Chemistry. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule is published, so treat any specific figure you see quoted as unverified.

There is a separate regime for anything with premises and staff. In Dubai, an institute needs an educational services permit for a training institute from the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, with initial approval first, a maximum of six months to complete the permit and licence steps, and annual renewal requested at least thirty days before expiry. This is why a claim that tutors carry the approval of a Dubai education authority should stop a conversation: that permit is issued to institutions with a physical site, not as a badge an individual or an online platform can carry.

IB Gram is independent. We hold no approval, accreditation, licence or registration from ADEK, the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, the Ministry of Education, the IB or any examination board, and we would not claim one. What we can tell you is what to ask for and where to verify it, which is the table below.

The one option to rule out: a tutor at your child's own school

  • Reported Abu Dhabi ethics rules bar school staff from paid tutoring of their own students
  • The MoHRE permit's code of conduct is reported to bar the same arrangement
  • A paid teacher who also marks the work removes the family's independent check
  • Ask the subject teacher which component is losing marks - that part is free

Among tutors near you, the most tempting is the one who already teaches your child. They know the student, the cohort, the internal deadlines and the marking. Parents ask for this constantly and it is the single arrangement we will not help with, for reasons that are both regulatory and practical.

On the regulatory side, Abu Dhabi professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff have been reported as prohibiting teachers from providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation permit carries a code of conduct that also bars serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school. Both of these should be verified against the current policy documents directly rather than taken from a tutoring page, including this one. Treat them as the reason to ask the question rather than as the final word on it.

On the practical side, the conflict is obvious once stated. The person marking your child's internal assessment should not be paid by you to improve it. If the grade goes up, nobody can tell whether the teaching or the marking moved, and the student cannot tell either. If a dispute arises about a predicted grade, the family has no independent voice to appeal to. An outside tutor with no stake in the grade can be blunt about a draft in a way an invested teacher cannot.

What a school teacher is genuinely useful for is free. Ask the subject teacher which component is costing marks and what the internal deadline calendar looks like for the next term. That conversation costs nothing, takes ten minutes, and makes any tutoring you then arrange substantially more accurate.

06

What a match actually involves, and how long it takes

  • Send the marked paper, not just the subject name - it halves the matching time
  • Standard Level matches usually land in two working days; Higher Level can take five
  • If the specialist sits in another time zone, we say so before you agree a slot
  • The trial is a working lesson and no payment is taken before it

Matching is the step most providers describe in a sentence and most families judge a provider on. The input that makes it fast is a document rather than a conversation: the most recent marked paper, or the returned internal assessment draft with the teacher's comments on it. From a marked script a specialist can usually name the failure pattern before the first session, which means the trial lesson is spent testing a hypothesis instead of gathering history.

Times vary by subject and by season, and the table earlier on this page gives the honest spread. Standard Level Mathematics is usually a two-day match. Higher Level Physics in January is not. Where the wait is real, we would rather give a date than fill the slot, because the cost of a mismatched tutor is not the money; it is the six weeks a family spends hoping it improves before admitting it has not.

Occasionally the only suitable specialist for a narrow component sits outside the Gulf time zone, most often in India, which is an hour and a half ahead of Gulf Standard Time. That moves a session earlier in the Abu Dhabi evening rather than later. We say so at the point of matching rather than after, because a family who agreed to half past eight and then discovers it has to be seven has been told something late that should have been said first.

The trial lesson is the real test and it is free, with no payment taken before it happens. It is a working session, not a sales call: the tutor teaches the component the script identified and finishes by saying what they would do over the next six weeks and in what order. If the match is wrong after it, we change the tutor rather than defend the first choice.

07

Comparing two quotes without comparing two different things

  • Normalise the quote first: students per session, session length, marking time included
  • Ask who teaches every week, and what happens if the first match is wrong
  • Get the tax position in writing from the provider rather than from a web page
  • Treat unevidenced examiner claims as marketing until the evidence arrives

Hourly rates in this market are not comparable as printed, because they describe different products. AED 60 an hour from a university student, AED 200 from a qualified subject tutor working online, AED 270 from an IB specialist and AED 450 from a named tutor are four different transactions. The published bands for 2026 run roughly: budget online AED 45-150, with EdFlik from AED 45-65 and Tutopiya from AED 33-52; qualified subject tutor online AED 150-300, with Unitors publishing IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200; specialists AED 200-450 and above, with TutorChase publishing AED 270 and Bestimate 200-450+; and premium named tutors AED 500-650, BartyED publishing AED 650.

Before comparing the numbers, make them describe the same thing. Ask how many students are in the session, because a group rate and a one-to-one rate differ by a factor of three or four. Ask whether the figure is per hour or per session, since ninety-minute sessions are common. Ask who marks the work between sessions and whether that time is included. Ask whether the quoted figure is inclusive of any applicable tax, and get the answer in writing; we do not state the UAE tax treatment of tuition fees on this page because that belongs to the Federal Tax Authority rather than to us.

Then ask the questions that are not about money. Which subject and level does the tutor actually teach, and which components have they marked? Will the same tutor take every session, or is the booking with an agency that allocates whoever is free? What happens if the first match is wrong - a replacement, or a refund argument? Is there a written note after each session? Does the provider hold a MoHRE permit for the individual teaching, and will they show it?

One final warning about the top of the market. Examiner status is used heavily in tutoring marketing and is rarely evidenced. We do not describe tutors as examiners for the boards unless current status can be shown, and we would not use examiner status to imply access to marking, grade boundaries or paper content, because no such access exists. If a page is charging a premium for that claim, ask what the claim is based on.

08

Where the regulator fits, and what it does not cover

Parents sometimes hope that a regulator vets tutors the way it vets schools. It does not, and understanding the split saves money. The Department of Education and Knowledge supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in Abu Dhabi and publishes inspection outcomes. Dubai's schools sit with the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, which is responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in that emirate. Sharjah's sit with the Sharjah Private Education Authority, which regulates private education and approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods, as does Ras Al Khaimah's Department of Knowledge. Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah sit with the federal Ministry of Education.

All of those bodies regulate schools. None of them accredits a tutoring platform. The individual tutor sits under the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation permit regime instead, and a physical institute in Dubai sits under a separate educational services permit. So when a tutoring page tells you its tutors are approved by an education authority, the claim is either describing a school permit it does not hold or inventing a status that does not exist for its category.

What the regulator is genuinely useful for is checking a school. If a tutoring provider names schools it works with, those schools should appear on the authority's own listing, and the current inspection report should be read there. We deliberately do not publish inspection ratings on these pages, because a rating copied second-hand ages badly and the authority's own site is one click away. The same applies to the federal position on curriculum: private schools are not obliged to follow a specific curriculum beyond Arabic language, social studies and Islamic studies, but must adhere to the Ministry's general regulations.

The honest summary is short. Use the regulator to verify schools. Use the ministry permit to verify an individual tutor. Use a marked paper and a trial lesson to verify teaching. Nothing else in this market verifies anything.

Where we tutor

Abu Dhabi community by community, and the slot each one supports

Online delivery means your community does not limit who can teach your child, but it does decide what time the session can start. These are the drive-time realities our Abu Dhabi families describe, and the slots that actually survive a full term in each.

Al Reem Island

Apartment living with school runs often under fifteen minutes. A half past three start is genuinely workable here, which makes it one of the few communities where a session can finish before dinner.

Al Maryah Island and Al Zahiyah

Short central runs and a dense cluster of working parents. Sessions tend to be booked in the earliest slots so that the evening is left intact for homework.

Al Bateen and Al Khalidiyah

Island distances are short, but pickup queues and parking take the time the distance saves. Five o'clock is the slot most families here settle on.

Khalifa City and Shakhbout City

The tightest school cluster in the emirate with a ten to fifteen minute internal run. Half past four works, and this is where weekly rhythms hold most reliably through a term.

Al Raha Gardens and Al Raha Beach

Ten minutes from Khalifa City and next to long-established IB continuum provision. Many students here come to us mid-MYP, when criteria-based marking first starts to decide grades.

Saadiyat Island

One causeway run of twenty to twenty-five minutes to most schools. Five or half past five is typical, and families with two children in different schools usually need the later end of that.

Yas Island

Newer housing and a longer run back from island schools, so six o'clock is the common starting point. A noticeable share of students here arrive mid-year from other curricula.

Al Shamkha and Al Falah

Thirty to forty minutes each way at the afternoon peak. Half past six is realistic; anything earlier gets cancelled by traffic within a month of booking it.

Al Reef, Al Samha and Baniyas

The longest afternoon runs to island schools, commonly forty minutes or more. These are the communities where the local tutor pool is thinnest and the case for removing travel from the plan is strongest.

Mohammed Bin Zayed City and Mussafah

Large mixed communities with a wide spread of curricula. Diploma enquiries here often come from students who entered the DP from a national or Indian curriculum and need the assessment format taught from scratch.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Abu Dhabi

The Khalifa City and Al Raha corridor

The densest concentration of international provision in the emirate, with IB continuum schools alongside British schools offering the Diploma next to A-Levels. Short internal distances here are why this corridor supports earlier session slots than anywhere else in Abu Dhabi.

  • Raha International School
  • Al Yasmina Academy
  • GEMS American Academy Abu Dhabi
  • The British International School Abu Dhabi
  • Al Mamoura Academy

The island, Saadiyat and Al Reem

Established island schools and newer provision on Saadiyat and Al Reem, serving families with short commutes and several post-16 routes to choose between. Subject-choice advice here has to account for what the alternative route would have required.

  • Cranleigh Abu Dhabi
  • American Community School of Abu Dhabi
  • Repton School Abu Dhabi
  • Al Bateen Academy
  • Abu Dhabi International School

The mainland and southern communities

Schools serving Al Shamkha, Al Falah, Baniyas and Mohammed Bin Zayed City carry larger cohorts and a wider spread of prior curricula. Transition work into the Diploma from Cambridge IGCSE or a national curriculum is a bigger share of what students here need.

  • Emirates National Schools
  • Reach British School
  • GEMS Cambridge International School Abu Dhabi
  • Amity International School Abu Dhabi
  • Brighton College Abu Dhabi

Schools appear here only to describe the provision Abu Dhabi families choose between. IB Gram is independent and holds no affiliation, partnership or endorsement from any school or school group named, and no connection to ADEK, the IB or any examination board.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Decide what the tutoring is actually for

Homework company for a Year 7 student and a Paper 3 technique rescue for a DP2 candidate are different purchases, and they value proximity differently. Naming the job before you start searching stops the radius making the decision for you.

  2. 02

Send the most recent marked work

A photograph of the last marked paper or the returned internal assessment draft tells a specialist more in ten minutes than a half-hour call. It also shortens the match, because the tutor arrives at the trial lesson already knowing which component is leaking marks.

  3. 03

Agree the slot against your real drive, not your preferred one

Pick the time that works on a bad traffic day in your community, not the one that works on a good one. Because nobody is travelling to deliver the session, a later slot costs nothing extra, and a slot you can keep every week is worth more than an earlier one you cancel.

  4. 04

Take the free trial lesson before paying anything

The trial is a working session on the component the marked paper identified. It ends with the tutor stating a six-week plan in plain words. No payment is taken before it happens, and a wrong match is replaced rather than argued about.

  5. 05

Review at six weeks against new marked work

Six weeks is long enough for a pattern to show up in a fresh marked paper and short enough that a plan which is not working gets changed. We expect to reduce hours in some subjects at that review, not only to add them.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Distance stops being a filter

Because every session runs one-to-one over live video, the shortlist is every tutor who teaches that subject at that level rather than the few who will drive to your community. We do not make home visits in Abu Dhabi; in-home tutoring is offered only in India, and saying that plainly is the point.

Availability stated before you commit

Some subject and level combinations are thin, and a few are thin in this time zone. We give a date and a reason rather than placing whoever is free, and we say when the only specialist for a narrow component sits outside the Gulf and what that does to your slot.

Slots built around your community's school run

A half past four session is comfortable in Khalifa City and unrealistic in Al Reef. We set the time against the drive you actually have, in Gulf Standard Time, and hold the same slot weekly so the plan survives mocks, school trips and a shortened Ramadan timetable.

The permit question answered, not dodged

The private tutor permit exists under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is issued by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, and is free for two years. We explain the categories and the official route, and we claim no regulator approval of our own because we hold none.

Rates with their sources attached

Every AED figure on this page is attributed to the provider that published it, with the year. Our own fee depends on subject, level and session length and is quoted after a consultation. A single headline price for every subject hides the thing you are trying to compare.

Assessed work stays the student's own

Tutors teach the criteria, read drafts and name what is capping a mark. They do not supply prose, pick the research question or submit anything. In a market where completed internal assessments are openly advertised, that boundary protects the student from a malpractice finding.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Abu Dhabi: your questions answered

Does it matter where my child's IB tutor is based if the lessons are online?+

For most Diploma work it matters much less than the subject match. What the tutor needs is the component skill: someone who has marked Paper 3, or who knows what criterion D of a scientific investigation is asking for. Where location does matter is the clock and the context. A tutor in the Gulf shares your evening, so the slot is simple. A tutor an hour and a half ahead shifts the session earlier. And for Arabic A and Arabic B, a UAE-based tutor genuinely understands how the Diploma course and the Ministry requirement interact in the same week, which is why we prioritise one there.

How do I check whether an IB tutor advertising near me holds a UAE tutoring permit?+

Ask them to show it. The private tutor work permit is issued by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, free of charge and valid for two years, through the service named Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing on the ministry's app, website and e-services system. A tutor holding one can produce it. If the answer is that the agency handles it, ask which named individual the permit covers. Individuals tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no schedule of amounts is published, so ignore any specific figure quoted at you.

I live in Al Reef. Can I find a Physics Higher Level tutor nearby?+

Probably not quickly, and that is the clearest argument on this page. Al Reef sits forty minutes or more from the island schools at the afternoon peak, which shrinks the set of tutors willing to travel there, and Higher Level Physics is one of the thinner specialisms in the whole Gulf. The combination means a local search usually ends with a general science tutor rather than a Physics specialist. Online, the shortlist is everyone who teaches Physics at Higher Level, and the session can start at seven without anybody driving. Expect two to four working days for the match, and longer in the weeks before school mocks.

What time can a session realistically start after school in Abu Dhabi?+

It depends almost entirely on your community. Most private schools release between about half past two and half past three. On Al Reem Island a half past three start is workable. Inside the island, pickup and parking push it to a quarter to four or later, and five o'clock is the common choice. In Khalifa City and Shakhbout City, half past four works. From Saadiyat or Al Raha Beach, five o'clock. From Al Shamkha or Mohammed Bin Zayed City, half past six. From Al Reef, Al Samha or Baniyas, seven. Pick the time that survives a bad traffic day rather than the one you would prefer.

How long does it usually take to be matched with a tutor in Abu Dhabi?+

Two to five working days for most Diploma subjects, with the spread driven by subject, level and the time of year. Standard Level Mathematics is usually two days. Higher Level Physics, Higher Level Chemistry and Paper 3 Economics take longer, and in the weeks before school mocks they take longer still, because every school in the Gulf runs mocks off the same May session. The arts are the exception at a week or more. Sending a marked paper with the enquiry shortens all of these, because the match is then made against a component rather than against a subject label.

Which Diploma components are the hardest to staff with a real specialist?+

Visual Arts, Music, Theatre and Film are the thinnest group in every market we work in, and we would rather decline than place a generalist on a comparative study or a process portfolio. After the arts, the difficulty is component-specific rather than subject-specific: Higher Level Mathematics Paper 3, Higher Level Economics Paper 3 and the Higher Level English essay are each narrower specialisms than the subjects they sit inside. Sciences at Higher Level are available but squeeze hard around mocks. Standard Level Mathematics, Biology and Business Management are the easiest to cover at short notice.

If the tutor is in another time zone, what does that do to our lesson slot?+

Usually it moves the session earlier in the Abu Dhabi evening rather than later. The specialists we most often draw on outside the Gulf sit in India, which is an hour and a half ahead of Gulf Standard Time, so a session that is eight in the evening for you is half past nine for them. That is workable once or twice a week and unworkable as a nine o'clock slot. We tell you at the point of matching that the tutor sits outside the Gulf, so you can decide before agreeing a time rather than discovering the constraint in week three.

Do you add a travel charge if the tutor is further away?+

No, because nobody travels. Every session for an Abu Dhabi family runs one-to-one over live video, so there is no mileage, no waiting time and no minimum session length imposed to make a journey worthwhile. That last point is worth noticing: in-home tutoring in this market is often sold in two-hour blocks because an hour does not justify the drive, which is why the monthly in-home packages advertised here run AED 1,599-1,799 for four two-hour visits. Online, a single focused hour is a sensible purchase, and a thirty-minute follow-up is too.

How does a shortened Ramadan school day change the tutoring timetable?+

Yes, and most families ask for it. Ramadan moves roughly eleven days earlier each year and now falls inside the spring term, which overlaps the window when many Abu Dhabi schools run Diploma mocks. School days shorten, which frees the afternoon, but for a lot of households concentration genuinely sits after Iftar. We move the slot for the month and move it back afterwards. The thing that does not work is leaving the timetable unchanged and then losing half the month to cancellations, which costs more continuity than the shift ever would.

We travel between Abu Dhabi and abroad often. Can the same tutor continue?+

Yes. Because delivery is online, the only thing that changes when the family moves is the clock. The same tutor keeps the plan, the error log and the marked work, which is the part that would be lost in a new search. Families who spend summers in another country commonly keep a reduced schedule running through it, and families relocating mid-year avoid the gap that normally opens between leaving one tutor and finding another. For a permanent move out of the UAE, the plan continues with a recalculated slot rather than starting again.

Is a tutor who teaches at a school near us a better choice?+

Not if it is your child's own school. Abu Dhabi professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff have been reported as barring teachers from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, and the ministry permit's code of conduct is reported to bar the same arrangement; both are worth verifying against the current policy documents. The practical objection stands on its own: the person marking the work should not be paid by you to improve it, because then nobody can tell whether the teaching or the marking moved. A teacher at a different school carries no such conflict.

What should I send when asking for a tutor, to get a useful answer fastest?+

Four things. The subject and the level, written as the school writes it, since Higher and Standard Level are different assessments. A photograph of the most recent marked paper or returned internal assessment draft, with the teacher's comments visible. The school's next deadline that matters, whether that is an internal assessment date or the mock window. And your community, so the slot is set against a realistic drive. With those four, a specialist can usually name the failure pattern before the trial lesson, which is the difference between a diagnostic first session and an introductory one.

Can one tutor cover two IB subjects for the same student?+

Sometimes, and it is worth asking rather than assuming. Mathematics and Physics is the most common genuine pairing, because the overlap in algebraic technique is real. Chemistry and Biology is plausible at Standard Level and rarely sensible at Higher Level, where the component skills diverge. Pairing a science with a humanities subject almost never works well. Where a single tutor can cover both, the continuity is a real advantage: one error log, one plan, one person who notices that a Maths problem is actually a reading problem. Where it cannot, two shorter sessions with specialists beat one generalist hour.

What happens if the match turns out to be wrong after a few weeks?+

We change the tutor. The honest reason this matters is that families do not act on a bad match quickly; they wait, hoping the next session is better, and the cost of that patience is measured in weeks of a two-year programme. So the review point is set in advance at six weeks, against fresh marked work rather than against impressions. If the component that was leaking marks is still leaking them, the plan changes or the tutor does. No payment is taken before the first trial lesson, and a replacement is not treated as a complaint to be defended.

Does ADEK approve or register tutoring companies in Abu Dhabi?+

No. The Department of Education and Knowledge supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in the emirate; it does not accredit tutoring providers. Individual tutors sit under the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation permit regime instead. In Dubai, an institute with physical premises needs a separate educational services permit from the Knowledge and Human Development Authority. So any tutoring page claiming to be approved by an education authority is either describing a school or institute permit it does not hold, or inventing a status that does not exist for its category. IB Gram holds no regulator approval and does not claim one.

Replace the radius with the component

If you are searching for an IB tutor near me in Abu Dhabi, the useful move is to stop searching by distance and start searching by the component losing marks. Find the most recent marked paper, note the subject and level exactly as the school writes them, and tell us which community you are in so the slot is set against your real drive. A specialist will read the script before a free trial lesson, which is a working session rather than a sales call, and no payment is taken before it happens. Sessions run one-to-one over live video, in Gulf Standard Time, with nobody stuck in traffic.
