IB Home Tutor near me in Abu Dhabi

An IB home tutor near me is the phrase Abu Dhabi parents type when they want someone accountable in the room. The reasonable thing underneath the search is not the room; it is the evidence. A tutor at the kitchen table is visible, and visibility feels like proof. This page sets out what actual proof looks like for a Diploma student - marked scripts, a written error log, criterion-by-criterion notes on an internal assessment draft, and a mock comparison - and it is honest that IB Gram supplies that one-to-one over live video rather than by visiting an address in Abu Dhabi.

  • A written note after every session: what was fixed, what is still open
  • Marked past-paper work returned with the mark scheme alongside it
  • Internal assessment feedback given by criterion letter, never as replacement prose
  • Delivery is live video one-to-one; home visits are an India-only service

What parents are really buying when they ask for a home tutor

Ask an Abu Dhabi parent why they want a home tutor rather than an online one and the answer is almost never about pedagogy. It is about being able to see what is happening. A tutor at the dining table can be overheard. You can tell whether the hour was work or conversation. You can ask on the way out whether the Chemistry is actually improving. That instinct is sound: tutoring is one of the few significant purchases a family makes where the product is invisible and the result arrives months later.

The problem is that presence is a poor proxy for progress. A tutor in your house for ninety minutes a week can produce nothing you could show a subject teacher, and a tutor on a screen can produce a marked script, an annotated internal assessment draft and a six-week error log that any teacher would recognise immediately. The question worth asking a provider is not where the tutor sits. It is: at the end of six weeks, what documents will exist that did not exist before, and what will they show?

That is the question this page answers, and it answers it with the specifics of the Diploma rather than in general terms. A DP student is assessed on written papers at the end of DP2 and on eight or nine pieces of internal coursework spread across two years. Each of those has criteria with fixed mark allocations - the sciences investigation carries twenty-four marks across four criteria of six, the Extended Essay carries thirty-four with twelve of them in critical thinking alone, the mathematics exploration carries twenty with six for use of mathematics. Evidence of progress in the IB means movement against those specific numbers, not a general sense that things are going better.

Abu Dhabi families also have a scheduling reality that changes the maths. Private schools in the emirate, overseen by the Department of Education and Knowledge, release students between about half past two and half past three. In the Khalifa City and Al Raha corridor the drive home is short. From Al Reef, Al Samha or Al Shamkha it is frequently forty minutes or more. An in-home tutor has to cross that same city, which is why the market prices in-home one-to-one at AED 180-500 an hour with travel inside the fee, against AED 150-300 for a qualified subject tutor working online, and why in-home work is commonly sold in two-hour blocks that make the journey worthwhile.

So the honest position, stated before anything else: IB Gram does not make home visits in Abu Dhabi, and in-home tutoring is a service we offer only in India. For Abu Dhabi families, sessions run one-to-one over live video, and the accountability that a parent wanted from presence is supplied in writing instead. What follows is the detail of that - how to read a marked DP script, what an error log looks like after six weeks, how internal assessment drafts are commented on without crossing the academic-honesty line, and what can and cannot honestly be said about grade movement.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Evidence looks different at each stage of the IB, because the assessment looks different. A Primary Years student produces no marks at all; a Diploma student produces a marking record in nine places at once. Here is what progress can actually be shown as, programme by programme.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Each subject is marked against four criteria on an eight-point scale and converted to a 1-7 grade by the school. The evidence to ask for at this stage is a piece of the student's own work scored against the school's published descriptors, with the gap between the current band and the next one named in words. Movement from a 5 to a 6 in criterion C is a documentable change; "more confident" is not.

MYP 4 and 5 generate most of our Abu Dhabi evidence requests, because that is where criteria marking starts deciding grades and where the personal project lands. Families in the Khalifa City and Al Raha corridor often arrive with a report showing four different criteria scores and no explanation of what any of them mean, which is itself the first piece of work.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Six subjects, three at Higher Level, each with an internal assessment worth a fifth to a third of the grade, plus the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge. Evidence here is concrete: marked past-paper questions with the mark scheme beside them, drafts annotated by criterion, and a comparison between a mock script and the work produced eight weeks later on the same paper type.

Abu Dhabi Diploma cohorts sit the May session, and the school's mock window usually falls between December and February of DP2. That mock is the most valuable evidence document the student will produce before the real papers, and it is the one most families never fully read. Confirm examination and results dates with the school's DP coordinator or on ibo.org rather than from a tutoring site.

PYPAges 3-12 · FS1 to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

Transdisciplinary inquiry with no external assessment, so there is no mark to track. Evidence at this stage is fluency measured directly: reading accuracy and rate on an unseen passage, number facts recalled under time, a piece of writing with its structure marked. Any provider offering exam preparation to a PYP student has misread the programme.

Primary enquiries in Abu Dhabi cluster in the newer mainland communities, where adding a second car journey to the afternoon is the thing families most want to avoid. Two short sessions a week produce more measurable fluency gain than one long one, and that pattern is only practical when nobody is driving.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

The grid below names, for each subject, the document that shows whether tutoring is working. It is deliberately component-level: the point of hiring a specialist is that they can tell you which eleven marks are missing and from where.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Evidence is a timed Paper 3 attempt with the method marked rather than the answer. The diagnostic signature is a student who scores well on part (a) and loses everything after it, which shows up as a mark distribution rather than as a total.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Evidence is an interpretation sentence written next to a correct calculation. The common pattern is full method marks and zero context marks, visible only when somebody reads the script against the mark scheme line by line.

Physics

HL and SL

Evidence is a Paper 2 extended-response answer rewritten against the command term, with the original kept for comparison. Describe-instead-of-explain is the single most common cause of lost marks and the easiest to document.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Evidence is a set of mechanism drawings with charges and lone pairs marked, and energetics cycles with the sign convention checked. Both are visual, both are gradeable, and both change within weeks when corrected consistently.

Biology

HL and SL

Evidence is a criterion A justification for the scientific investigation, before and after. Research design described but not justified is the most frequent cap on the 24-mark total, and the rewrite is a one-page document you can read yourself.

Economics

HL and SL

Evidence is an evaluation paragraph added to an otherwise complete Paper 3 answer. Students reliably produce the calculation and stop, and the added paragraph is where the top band becomes reachable.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Evidence is an annotated unseen text next to the essay it produced. The failure is writing about content rather than the writer's construction, and an annotation protocol makes the change visible on the page.

History

HL and SL

Evidence is a Paper 1 four-part answer with a mark-per-minute budget written on it. Overwriting part (a) and underwriting part (d) is a timing fault, and the proof it has been fixed is on the clock, not in the content.

Psychology

HL and SL

Evidence is the justification of the statistical test in the internal assessment, which is marked on method rather than on results. A tidy experiment with a weak justification scores poorly and the rewrite is short.

Computer Science

HL and SL

Evidence is design documentation for the developed solution, which is where marks sit. Students build something functional and under-record the decisions the criteria reward, and the fix is written rather than coded.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three shapes of work, each defined by the document it produces. The tutors and the delivery are the same in all three; what changes is what exists at the end and what it proves.

Weekly session with a written record

One subject, one level, the same hour each week. Each session ends with a short note naming what was covered, what was corrected and what is still open, and every two or three weeks a marked past-paper question is returned with the mark scheme beside it. The record is the product as much as the teaching is, because it is the only thing a subject teacher or a sceptical parent can actually examine.

  • A note after every session, in plain words, not a score out of ten
  • A marked past-paper question returned every two to three weeks
  • An error log that accumulates rather than resetting each week
  • A six-week review against fresh marked work

Internal assessment draft clinic

Short blocks timed to the school's own internal deadlines. The tutor reads the draft the student has written, scores it against the criteria by letter, and names which criterion is capping the mark and what skill it is asking for. The student then rewrites. No prose is supplied, no paragraph is replaced and no research question is chosen on the student's behalf.

  • A criterion-by-criterion score sheet on the student's own draft
  • Word and page limits checked before content is discussed
  • Referencing conventions and the honesty declaration covered explicitly
  • The rewrite is the student's work; the feedback is the tutor's

Post-mock diagnostic block

Four to six sessions built entirely around the returned mock scripts. The mock is the single most informative document a Diploma student produces before the real session and it is routinely filed unread. The block reconstructs where the marks went, ranks the subjects by marks recoverable rather than by anxiety, and sets an end date.

  • Every returned script read against the mark scheme with the student present
  • Marks lost sorted by cause: content, command term, timing, presentation
  • A ranked priority list for the weeks remaining
  • A second attempt at the same paper type as the comparison document

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Abu Dhabi

01

The honest answer on home tutors in Abu Dhabi

In-home tuition in the UAE is a real market with real prices, and anyone comparing options deserves the numbers rather than a redirection. The published bands for 2026 put in-home one-to-one at AED 180-500 an hour with travel included: Bestimate's rate table shows 180-350, and independent home tutors advertise between 200 and 500. Monthly in-home packages in this market run AED 1,599-1,799 for four two-hour sessions. Online one-to-one with a qualified subject tutor sits at AED 150-300, where Unitors publishes IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200, and specialists sit at AED 200-450 and above, with TutorChase publishing AED 270.

Three things sit inside the in-home premium. Travel is the obvious one: a tutor crossing Abu Dhabi to reach Al Reef or Al Shamkha at the afternoon peak spends forty to eighty minutes in a car per visit, and that time is in the fee whether it is itemised or not. The two-hour minimum is the second, which is why in-home work is sold in blocks rather than as single focused hours. The third is scarcity pricing: inside a twenty-minute radius of any Abu Dhabi community, the number of tutors who teach a specific subject at a specific level is small, and small supply prices accordingly.

How families actually choose, in our experience, splits cleanly by what the tutoring is for. For a younger child who needs supervision and company while working, presence genuinely helps and the premium is defensible. For a Diploma student losing marks on a named component, presence does nothing that a shared screen does not do better, because the work being examined is a script and the thing being corrected is a method. The fastest way to decide is to look at the most recent marked paper: if you can see which component the marks came out of, you need a specialist. If you cannot, you may just need someone in the room to stop the phone being picked up.

IB Gram's own position is fixed and stated before any comparison: we do not make home visits in Abu Dhabi, and in-home tutoring is a service we offer only in India. For Abu Dhabi families everything is one-to-one over live video. The table below is the comparison we give parents rather than a pitch, and the row that matters most is the last one.

Reading a marked Diploma script

Most families receive marked work and read only the total. The total is the least informative thing on the page. What matters is the distribution: which questions produced full marks, which produced method marks without answer marks, and which produced nothing. Those three patterns have different causes and different fixes, and a tutor who cannot name which one is happening is guessing.

Full marks on short questions and zeros on extended response is almost always a command-term problem rather than a knowledge problem. The student knows the content, answers in the wrong register, and the examiner has nowhere to award. Method marks without answer marks is an accuracy or units problem, often significant figures or a sign. Nothing at all on the later parts of a multi-part question is usually timing or a misread stem, and it shows up most clearly in Higher Level Mathematics Paper 3, where two extended problems reward reading the whole question before starting.

The annotations themselves carry information that parents are rarely shown how to read. A tick on a working line is a method mark awarded for the approach. A mark on the answer line only is an accuracy credit. "BOD" style benefit-of-the-doubt annotations mean a borderline answer was accepted and would probably not be accepted twice. A circled command term in the question margin means the examiner is signalling the answer did not engage with the verb. None of this is secret - it is in the mark schemes the boards publish - but it is not taught to families.

This is work that is done better on a shared screen than across a table, which is worth saying plainly because it runs against the instinct this page started with. On a screen the script is scanned, enlarged, annotated by both people and saved. Six weeks later the same question type can be put next to the first attempt. In a living room, the paper goes back in the bag.

WHAT A MARK PATTERN ON A DP SCRIPT ACTUALLY MEANS
What the script showsMost likely causeWhat it is notWhat the next three sessions do

Later parts of multi-part questions blankTiming, or a stem read once and not re-readInability to do the later partsTimed stems only, annotated and planned before any working starts
Strong content, low criterion score on courseworkThe criterion's skill was never taught, usually evaluation or reflectionWeak writingCriterion descriptors taught as their own topic, then the student rewrites
Marks spread evenly low across the whole paperA genuine content gap in one or two topicsA technique problemTopic repair first; technique work is wasted until the content exists
03

What six weeks of evidence looks like

Six weeks is the review period we set, and it is chosen because it is long enough for a pattern to appear in fresh marked work and short enough that a plan which is not working gets changed before a term is gone. The point of fixing it in advance is that families are reluctant to act on a bad match. They wait, hoping, and in a two-year programme that patience is expensive. A date in the calendar and a document to judge removes the need to have an awkward conversation based on a feeling.

What accumulates over those weeks is deliberately boring. A session note each week, written in sentences a subject teacher would recognise. An error log that carries forward rather than resetting, so that the third occurrence of the same sign-convention mistake is visible as the third occurrence. Two or three marked past-paper questions with the mark scheme beside them. Where the student is working on an internal assessment, a criterion score sheet on their own draft at each stage.

The table below is drawn from the shape of a typical Higher Level Chemistry block, which is the single most requested Higher Level science in Abu Dhabi. The detail will differ by subject. The structure should not: there should be a document at each stage, and by week six there should be a second attempt at the same task type that can be laid next to the first.

One caution about what this evidence can prove. It can show that a specific error has stopped recurring, that a criterion score on a draft has moved, and that a timed attempt now reaches the end of the paper. It cannot promise a final grade, and we do not offer one. The variables between a corrected error log in November and a Diploma grade in July include a school, a cohort, a mock season and an examination the student sits alone.

04

Internal assessment drafts: criterion letters and the honesty line

Internal assessment is where the largest number of recoverable marks sit and where the largest number of families get help that puts the student at risk. The criteria are public, fixed and specific. The sciences investigation is marked on research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation, six marks each, twenty-four in total, within a three thousand word limit. The mathematics exploration carries twenty marks, six of them for use of mathematics, with twelve to twenty pages recommended. The History investigation is twenty-five marks across identification and evaluation of sources, the investigation itself and reflection, inside 2,200 words. The Extended Essay carries thirty-four, and critical thinking alone is twelve of them, inside four thousand words. The Theory of Knowledge essay is a single ten-mark global judgement inside 1,600 words.

Useful feedback on a draft is a score against each of those letters and a sentence naming the skill the lowest-scoring criterion is asking for. "Criterion D asks you to weigh your limitations against your conclusion; you have listed three limitations without saying which one most affects your result" is teaching. It gives the student something to do and leaves the doing to them. A document returned with replacement sentences in it is not teaching, and it is not safe.

The IB treats authenticity as a condition of assessment rather than as advice, and the consequence of a breach falls on the student: a subject grade, and in serious cases the Diploma. That is worth stating bluntly in a market where one researched competitor openly advertises completed internal assessments at around AED 3,750 each. A tutor may teach the criterion, model the technique on a different question, read what the student wrote and score it, and check referencing. A tutor may not supply sentences, rewrite a paragraph into the submission, choose the research question, or hand over finished work in any state.

There is a practical reason beyond the rule. Several components involve the student discussing their own work with a supervisor or in a reflection session. A student who did not produce their own draft cannot talk about it, and the gap is obvious to anyone who has sat through one of those conversations.

Grade movement: what can be claimed and what cannot

  • A documented change: this error stopped recurring, in this log, over these weeks
  • A documented change: this criterion score moved band, against the published descriptors
  • A documented change: this timed attempt now reaches the end of the paper
  • Not a claim we make: a final grade, a point total, or a percentage improvement

This section exists because the market is full of grade promises and families deserve a clear statement of what is actually knowable. No tutor can promise a specific Diploma grade, a specific point total or a specific improvement, and any page that does is telling you about its marketing. The IB grade is produced by an examination the student sits alone, marked externally, against boundaries set after the session. Several large variables sit outside any tutor's reach.

What can be honestly described is intermediate and documented. A named error can be shown to have stopped recurring in the error log. A criterion score on a draft can be shown to have moved from one band to another, against the published descriptors. A timed attempt that previously stopped two thirds of the way through a paper can be shown reaching the end. A mark distribution can be shown shifting from zeros on extended response to partial credit. These are real, checkable changes and they are the mechanism by which grades move, but they are not the grade.

The second honest caveat is about timing. The amount of change available depends heavily on when the work starts. A student beginning in October of DP1 has access to content repair, internal assessment process and two mock seasons. A student beginning in March of DP2 has access to paper technique on a narrow set of components and little else, because the internal assessments are submitted and the content window has closed. Both are worth doing; they are not the same purchase, and a provider who prices and describes them identically is being unhelpful.

The third is about attribution. If a grade does move, nobody can cleanly say how much of it was the tutoring, the school, the student's own work or the cohort. We write session notes so a family can see what was taught and what changed in the evidence, and we leave the causal claim alone. That is less satisfying than a percentage, and it is the only version that survives scrutiny.

06

The session record, and who gets to see it

A parent who wanted a tutor in the house wanted oversight. The written record is how oversight works when the tutor is on a screen, and it only works if the record says something. A note reading "covered calculus, good progress" is worse than nothing, because it looks like information. A note naming the question attempted, the error that recurred, the correction taught and the practice set for the week is a document a subject teacher can act on.

Who sees it matters as much as what it contains. The parent sees the note. The student sees the note, which is not a formality: a student who reads "sign convention reversed again in question 4b" three weeks running starts checking it themselves, and that is the mechanism by which tutoring eventually stops being needed. Whether the school sees it is the family's decision, not ours, and many families do share the notes with a subject teacher productively.

Record-keeping also touches a legal duty that competitor pages in this market generally ignore. Tutoring enquiries collect personal data about a minor - name, school, year group, marks, sometimes photographs of work. Federal Decree-Law No. 45 of 2021 on Personal Data Protection governs that. A provider should be able to tell you what it collects, why, how long it keeps it and how to have it deleted, and a privacy link should sit on every page. Never hand over a child's school, grades and photograph to a form that does not state its purpose.

Our practical rule is that nothing goes in a record that we would not be comfortable showing the student, the parent and the school simultaneously. That constraint tends to produce better notes.

The tutor at your child's school, and the permit question

  • Reported Abu Dhabi ethics rules bar school staff from tutoring their own students for payment
  • An insider cannot give the independent reading the evidence trail is for
  • The private tutor permit is free, valid two years, and applied for through MoHRE
  • No tutoring provider in this market holds a regulator accreditation; treat the claim as a warning sign

Among home tutors near you, the most sought-after is the one who already teaches your child, and it is the one arrangement we will not help with. Abu Dhabi professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff have been reported as prohibiting teachers from providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and the private tuition work permit issued by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation carries a code of conduct reported to bar serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school. Both should be verified against the current policy documents rather than taken from a tutoring page.

The evidence argument against it is simpler than the regulatory one. If the person being paid to improve the work is also the person marking it, the family has lost its only independent reading. A predicted grade cannot be questioned. A draft cannot be criticised freely. The whole purpose of the documents described on this page is to give a parent something an insider has not already shaped.

On permits generally, the position is worth stating because so many pages skip it. Private tutoring in the UAE requires a permit: it was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and is applied for through the ministry's smart app, website and e-services system under the service named Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing. Eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18 and university students. Tutoring without a permit attracts fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no schedule of amounts is published.

IB Gram holds no approval, accreditation, licence or registration from ADEK, the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, the Ministry of Education, the IB or any examination board, and does not claim any. What we can do is explain the rules, show you where to check them, and keep producing documents you can judge us by.

08

Where the mock paper fits, and why most of them go unread

Abu Dhabi Diploma cohorts usually sit school mocks between December and February of DP2. By the time the scripts come back the student has moved on, the holidays have intervened, and the paper is filed. That document is the single richest piece of evidence the student will produce before the real examinations, and leaving it unread is the most common avoidable mistake we see in this emirate.

What a properly read mock produces is a ranking. Across six subjects there are a fixed number of marks available in the remaining weeks and they are not evenly distributed. A subject where fifteen marks are being lost to command-term register is a better investment than one where four marks are lost to a genuine content gap in a minor topic, because the first is a technique fix with a short feedback loop. Families almost always rank by anxiety instead, which puts the hours into the subject that feels worst rather than the one with the most recoverable marks.

The second thing a read mock produces is a comparison point. Eight weeks later the same paper type, sat to time and marked, is a measurement rather than an impression. That pair of documents is what we mean by evidence, and it is the thing we would want to see as a parent before paying for a second term.

The practical sequence we recommend is narrow. Read every returned script against the mark scheme with the student present, not alone. Sort the marks lost by cause rather than by topic. Rank the subjects by marks recoverable per hour of work. Set an end date for the block. Then repeat the measurement.

Where we tutor

Abu Dhabi communities we work with

Where a family lives does not change who teaches their child, since delivery is online. It does change the honest comparison with in-home tuition, because the length of the drive is what a parent would be paying for inside an in-home rate.

Khalifa City and Shakhbout City

The tightest school cluster in the emirate, so in-home tutoring here is the most defensible it gets: a short drive and a real local pool. Even so, the subject-specialist shortlist inside a twenty-minute radius stays small at Higher Level.

Al Raha Gardens and Al Raha Beach

Ten minutes from Khalifa City, next to long-established IB continuum provision. Many students arrive mid-MYP with a report card of criteria scores nobody has translated for them.

Saadiyat Island

One causeway run to most schools. Families here often weigh in-home tuition against a two-hour minimum block, which is how the market prices a journey rather than a lesson.

Al Reem Island

Short apartment-to-school runs, so a half past three session is genuinely possible. Students are often the only Diploma candidate in the building, which removes the study-group effect entirely.

Al Bateen and Al Khalidiyah

Established island neighbourhoods with Diploma provision close by. Short distances, but pickup queues and parking take back the time, which pushes most sessions to five o'clock.

Al Shamkha and Al Falah

Thirty to forty minutes each way at the afternoon peak. This is where an in-home rate stops describing teaching and starts describing a car, and where the evidence case for online is easiest to make.

Al Reef and Al Samha

The longest afternoon runs to island schools. The subjects families here most need - Higher Level Physics, Chemistry and Economics - are precisely the ones with the thinnest local pool.

Yas Island

Newer housing and newer schools, with a steady share of students arriving mid-year from other curricula. Transition evidence - what the gap actually is, subject by subject - is the first document these families need.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Abu Dhabi

Khalifa City, Al Raha and the eastern corridor

The densest international provision in the emirate, including IB continuum schools and British schools running the Diploma alongside A-Levels. Internal assessment deadlines in this corridor cluster tightly, which is why the clinic blocks fill first here.

  • Raha International School
  • Al Yasmina Academy
  • GEMS American Academy Abu Dhabi
  • The British International School Abu Dhabi
  • Al Mamoura Academy

The island, Saadiyat and Al Reem

Long-established island schools and newer provision nearby, serving families with several post-16 routes available. Evidence requests here often start with a predicted grade a family does not believe and want tested against an actual script.

  • Cranleigh Abu Dhabi
  • American Community School of Abu Dhabi
  • Al Bateen Academy
  • Repton School Abu Dhabi
  • Abu Dhabi International School

Schools are named only to describe the provision Abu Dhabi families choose between. IB Gram is independent, holds no affiliation, partnership or endorsement from any school or group named here, and no connection to ADEK, the IB or any examination board.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the marked work before the conversation

A photograph of the most recent marked paper or the returned internal assessment draft, with the teacher's comments visible, is worth more than a half-hour call. A specialist can read it in ten minutes and arrive at the trial lesson with a written hypothesis about which component is leaking marks.

  2. 02

Agree what will exist in six weeks

Before paying anything, settle what documents the work will produce: session notes, a carried-forward error log, marked past-paper questions with the mark scheme, and criterion score sheets where coursework is involved. If a provider cannot name the documents, there is nothing to judge them by later.

  3. 03

    Take the free trial lesson

The trial is a working session on the component the script identified, not a sales call. It ends with the tutor stating, in plain words, what the next six weeks would address and in what order. No payment is taken before it happens, and a wrong match is replaced rather than defended.

  4. 04

Review against new marked work, not impressions

At six weeks, look at a fresh marked attempt at the same task type as week one. Check the mark distribution rather than the total. If the named error is still recurring, the plan changes or the tutor does, and we expect to reduce hours in some subjects as well as add them.

  5. 05

Rebuild the plan after the school mocks

Read every returned script, sort the lost marks by cause, and rank the subjects by marks recoverable rather than by how worrying they feel. The mock is the most informative document of the two years, and the block built on it is the highest-value work available in DP2.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Online one-to-one, stated before anything else

Every session for an Abu Dhabi family runs live over video with one tutor and one student. We do not make home visits in Abu Dhabi; in-home tutoring is a service we offer only in India. You can then judge the rest of this page knowing exactly what is being sold.

Accountability in documents rather than in presence

A note after every session, an error log that carries forward, marked past-paper questions with the mark scheme beside them, and criterion score sheets on coursework drafts. These are things a subject teacher can read, which is a higher standard than being overheard in a kitchen.

Matched to the component, not the subject

A Physics specialist who marks Paper 2 extended response and a general science tutor are different people. We match on the component the marked script identifies, because that is the unit in which Diploma marks are actually lost and recovered.

No grade promises, and a clear statement of why

We describe documented changes: an error that stopped recurring, a criterion score that moved band, a timed attempt that now reaches the end of the paper. We do not promise a grade or a point total, because the examination is sat alone and marked against boundaries set after the session.

Assessed work stays the student's own

Tutors score criteria, name the capping skill and teach it. They do not supply prose, choose a research question or submit anything. In a market where completed internal assessments are advertised openly, that boundary is what protects the student from a malpractice finding.

Data about a minor handled deliberately

Enquiries involve a child's school, year group and marks. Federal Decree-Law No. 45 of 2021 on Personal Data Protection governs that, and a provider should be able to say what it collects, why, how long it keeps it and how to have it removed. Ours is on the privacy page linked from every page.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Abu Dhabi: your questions answered

Will a tutor actually come to our home in Abu Dhabi?+

No. IB Gram does not make home visits anywhere in the UAE; in-home tutoring is a service we offer only in India. Every session for an Abu Dhabi family runs one-to-one over live video, at a time set in Gulf Standard Time around your child's school run. We say this before the comparison rather than after it, because a page that lets you assume otherwise and then explains later has wasted your time. If presence in the room is genuinely the requirement - for a young child who will not work alone - an in-home provider is the right choice and the market rate for it is AED 180-500 an hour.

What does in-home tuition cost per hour here compared with online?+

In-home one-to-one in this market runs AED 180-500 an hour with travel inside the fee: Bestimate's 2026 table shows 180-350 and independent home tutors advertise 200-500. Monthly in-home packages run AED 1,599-1,799 for four two-hour sessions. Online, a qualified subject tutor sits at AED 150-300, where Unitors publishes IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200, and specialists at AED 200-450 and above, with TutorChase publishing AED 270. The gap is largely travel and the two-hour minimum that a journey across the city requires. Our own fee depends on subject, level and session length and is quoted after a consultation.

What evidence will I actually see that my child is improving?+

Four documents. A written note after each session naming the task attempted, the error that recurred, the correction taught and the practice set. An error log that carries forward, so a repeated mistake is visible as a repeat. Marked past-paper questions returned every two or three weeks with the mark scheme beside them. And where coursework is involved, a criterion score sheet on your child's own draft with the gap to the next band written out. By week six there should also be a second attempt at the same task type as week one, which makes the change a measurement rather than an impression.

How often should marked work come back, and marked against what?+

Every two to three weeks is the pattern we aim for, and the marking should be against the published mark scheme for that paper, returned alongside the script rather than summarised. The reason to insist on the mark scheme is that it shows where credit was available and not taken, which is the information you are paying for. A total with a comment is not useful. What you want to be able to see is that four marks were lost to units, six to command-term register and three to an actual content gap, because those three numbers point at three different pieces of work.

What should a good session note say, and what is a bad one?+

A good note names the paper and question attempted, the specific error and whether it has appeared before, the correction in the words used with the student, and the practice set with a time limit. A bad note says "covered calculus, good progress", which looks like information and contains none. The test we apply internally is whether the note could be handed to a subject teacher who would know immediately what was done. We also write notes on the assumption that the student reads them, because a student who sees the same error named three weeks running starts checking for it unprompted.

Can I see the internal assessment feedback my child receives?+

Yes, and it should be a score sheet rather than an edited document. For the sciences investigation that means a score out of six against each of research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation, with a sentence naming which criterion is capping the mark and what skill it is asking for. For the Extended Essay it means scores against the five criteria, including critical thinking, which carries twelve of the thirty-four marks. What you should not see is a draft with replacement sentences in it. That is not feedback, it is a risk transferred to your child, and the consequences of an authenticity finding fall on them.

How long before a grade actually moves?+

Honestly, it depends on which of the three problems your child has, and the marked script tells you. A command-term register problem on extended response can show measurable change in four to six weeks, because it is a short feedback loop. A timing fault on multi-part questions is similar. A genuine content gap across two topics takes a term, and technique work on top of a content gap is wasted money. We do not promise a final grade at any horizon: the examination is sat alone and marked against boundaries set after the session. What we commit to is a documented change in the evidence at six weeks.

Is online as effective for a child who needs someone watching them work?+

For supervision alone, presence in the room is genuinely better and we would say so. A tutor at the table stops a phone being picked up in a way a screen cannot. What a screen does better is diagnosis: the script is scanned, enlarged, annotated by both people and saved, so week six can be laid next to week one. If your child's problem is attention rather than method, the useful purchase may be a study supervisor locally plus a short specialist block online for the components losing marks, rather than paying specialist rates for supervision.

My child's mock came back two grades below the predicted grade. What happens first?+

The script gets read, with the student present, against the mark scheme. Before any teaching, the lost marks are sorted by cause: content, command-term register, accuracy, or timing. A two-grade gap usually turns out to be one or two causes concentrated in one or two components rather than a general collapse, and that is a far smaller problem than the grade suggests. The output is a ranking of subjects by marks recoverable per hour, which is almost never the same as ranking by how worrying each subject feels. Then an end-dated block, not an open commitment.

Who keeps the marked papers and the error log?+

The family and the student keep copies, and the tutor keeps a working copy so the log carries forward between sessions. The log is the thing most worth preserving: it is what turns a slip into a pattern, and a pattern is what can be taught against. On data, enquiries about a child collect a name, a school, a year group and marks, which Federal Decree-Law No. 45 of 2021 on Personal Data Protection covers. A provider should be able to tell you what it holds, why, for how long and how to have it deleted, and that should be written down rather than described on a call.

Do you share progress notes with my child's school?+

Only if the family chooses to. The notes belong to you. Many families do pass them to a subject teacher and it tends to be productive, because the teacher can say whether the component we have identified matches what they see in class, and they set the internal deadlines any plan has to fit. What we will not do is approach a school on your behalf or present ourselves to a school as connected to it. IB Gram is independent of every school named anywhere on this site and holds no affiliation, partnership or endorsement from any of them.

How do you measure progress when the real examinations are months away?+

By using the same task types the examination uses, under the same conditions, repeatedly. A past-paper section sat to time in week one and the same section type in week six is a measurement. A criterion score on a coursework draft before and after a rewrite is a measurement. An error log showing a sign-convention mistake in weeks two and three and not in weeks five and six is a measurement. None of these is a grade, and none of them should be sold as one, but together they are the only honest answer to whether the hours are working.

What if the evidence shows no improvement after six weeks?+

Then something changes, and the change is ours to propose rather than yours to request. Either the hypothesis was wrong - the marks were not going where we thought - or the match is wrong, or the problem needs a different kind of work, such as topic repair before technique. We would rather replace a tutor than argue for the first choice, and we would rather tell you to reduce hours in a subject than keep billing them. The reason the review point is fixed in advance is precisely that families tend to wait and hope, and waiting is the expensive option in a two-year programme.

Can a tutor mark my child's Extended Essay draft?+

A tutor can read it and score it against the five published criteria, name which one is capping the mark, and teach the skill that criterion is asking for - most often critical thinking, which carries twelve of the thirty-four marks. A tutor cannot supply prose, restructure the argument into the submission, or choose the research question. The student rewrites in their own words, which is also the only version that survives a reflection session with a supervisor. Word limit is four thousand, and going over it earns nothing. The Theory of Knowledge essay works the same way inside 1,600 words, assessed as a single ten-mark judgement.

Is one free trial lesson really enough to judge a tutor?+

It is enough to rule one out, which is most of the value. In a working trial the tutor should arrive having read the marked script you sent, teach the component it identified rather than introducing themselves, and finish by stating what the next six weeks would do and in what order. If any of those three is missing, you have learned something useful. What a trial cannot tell you is whether the plan works, which is what the six-week review against fresh marked work is for. No payment is taken before the trial happens, and a wrong match after it is replaced.

Ask what documents will exist in six weeks

If you are weighing up an IB home tutor near me in Abu Dhabi, the question that separates providers is not where the tutor sits. Ask what will exist in six weeks that does not exist now, and whether a subject teacher could read it. Then send the most recent marked paper or returned coursework draft with the subject and level, and a specialist will read it before a free trial lesson. Sessions run one-to-one over live video, timed in Gulf Standard Time around your community's school run, and no payment is taken before that first lesson happens.
