IB DP Math AA SL Home Tutor in Abu Dhabi

Families comparing quotes for an IB DP math AA SL home tutor in Abu Dhabi are usually looking at two numbers that are hundreds of dirhams apart for what sounds like the same hour. This page explains what the UAE market actually charges, which of those charges is travel rather than teaching, and what moves a Standard Level Analysis quote in this emirate specifically. Lessons from IB Gram run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, and the first one is free.

  • Every AED band on this page is attributed to whoever published it
  • In-home quotes carry travel inside the hour; the page shows the arithmetic
  • No pre-paid block required before a free diagnostic lesson
  • Marking between sessions is part of the hour, not an extra line

IB & IGCSE in Abu Dhabi

Why one Standard Level hour is quoted at AED 150 and another at AED 450

Pricing in this market is opaque on purpose. Three of the six highest-ranking pages for Abu Dhabi tutoring queries publish no price at all, and one of those asks the price in its own list of questions and then declines to answer it. Two more quote in US dollars, a currency no UAE family transacts in. So a parent gathering quotes for Standard Level Analysis support ends up with a spread from roughly AED 150 to well over AED 450 an hour and no way to tell what the difference buys.

Most of the spread is explained by four things, and only one of them is teaching quality. The first is format: a group class at a tuition centre, a one-to-one video lesson and a tutor who drives to Khalifa City are three different products priced as if they were one. The second is travel, which is inside an in-home rate whether or not it appears as a line. The third is specialism: a Diploma mathematics teacher who marks against the exploration criteria commands more than a general secondary maths tutor, and reasonably so. The fourth is simply what the provider thinks you will pay, which is why identical hours are quoted hundreds of dirhams apart.

The honest market picture, from figures their own publishers put in writing, looks like this. Budget online tutoring, usually delivered by university students, starts at around AED 33 to 65 an hour at the entry rates EdFlik and Tutopiya advertise. Qualified subject tutors online sit roughly between AED 150 and 300, with Unitors publishing IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. In-home one-to-one visits run about AED 180 to 350 on Bestimate's Dubai rate table and up to AED 500 in specialist home-tutor listings. IB, IGCSE and A-Level specialists cluster at AED 200 to 450, with TutorChase publishing AED 270. Premium named or examiner-led tutoring reaches AED 650, which is BartyED's published figure.

None of those are IB Gram's prices, and this page does not pretend otherwise. What IB Gram does is match a Standard Level Analysis student to a specialist in that exact course and level and deliver the lessons one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. We do not send a tutor to a UAE address: home visits in Abu Dhabi are not part of what we sell, and that service exists only in India. The first lesson costs nothing, is one per student, requires no card and no block booking, and exists to produce a written diagnosis rather than a quote.

What follows is the arithmetic rather than the argument. The provider models side by side with their own published rates. The seven factors that genuinely move a Standard Level quote in Abu Dhabi, from the district you live in to the week of the academic year you ask. What a term-length plan comes to monthly rather than hourly, since that is the number a household budget actually works with. Where families in this emirate most often waste money. And the things worth trying before paying anyone at all, which is not advice a tutoring page usually offers.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

What you pay for depends on which programme your child is in, because the assessment load differs sharply. These are the programmes behind an Abu Dhabi mathematics enquiry, with what each one does to the cost of support.

DPAges 16-19 · DP1 and DP2

Diploma Programme

Six subjects, three normally at Higher Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS. Analysis and Approaches at Standard Level carries 150 teaching hours, two examination papers at 40 per cent each and an exploration at 20 per cent. It is the mathematics course most Abu Dhabi Diploma students take, and the one most often supported for a single term rather than two years.

Diploma support in Abu Dhabi is usually bought in DP2 rather than DP1, which is the expensive way round. A weekly Standard Level hour started in DP1 at a mid-market rate costs less over two years than a pre-examination intensive block at specialist rates, and it produces a tutor who already knows how your child works under time pressure. The cheapest plan is almost always the early one.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP 1-5

Middle Years Programme

Eight subject groups marked against four criteria each on a 1-8 scale, with no external examinations before the optional MYP 5 eAssessment. Mathematics support here is cheaper per hour than Diploma support, because the content is less specialised, and far cheaper in total, because problems caught in MYP 4 do not become Standard Level foundation gaps in DP1.

Abu Dhabi families often meet the mathematics route decision in MYP 5, when the DP1 option form arrives before the MYP results do. A short block of two or three sessions purely to establish whether Analysis or Applications fits is one of the better-value purchases available in this market, and it is almost never the one families make.

CPAges 16-19

Career-related Programme

Two or more Diploma courses alongside a career-related study, a reflective project and a personal and professional skills course. A student taking Standard Level Analysis within this programme sits the same two papers and submits the same exploration, so the cost of support is the same as for a full Diploma candidate.

In Abu Dhabi this programme is uncommon but it exists, and it occasionally becomes the sensible answer when a family is spending heavily on four subjects at once. Where support is being bought across several subjects simultaneously, the conversation worth having is with the Diploma coordinator about load, before the one with a tutor about hours.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Where Abu Dhabi families spend most, by subject. These are the Diploma subjects that attract the heaviest tutoring spend in this emirate, with a note on what drives the rate in each.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

SL

Two 90-minute papers of 80 marks each at 40 per cent apiece, plus a 20-mark exploration. Rates sit in the mid-band because the course is widely taught and the tutor pool is deeper than at Higher Level. Spend rises in DP2 when the exploration deadline and the mock window land in the same month.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL

The same five topic areas over 240 hours instead of 150, with a third paper worth 20 per cent. Quotes run above Standard Level because Paper 3 narrows the pool of people who can teach it. A Standard Level student should not be paying a Higher Level rate for content they will not be examined on.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Modelling, statistics and technology rather than proof. Priced similarly to Analysis at the same level, with one difference: students who moved across in DP1 often need a short bridging block, and that is a defined short cost rather than an open-ended plan.

Physics

HL and SL

Among the highest spend in Abu Dhabi, partly because the specialist pool is small and partly because weak mathematics shows up here as a second sinking grade. Families frequently buy physics support when the actual purchase they need is calculus fluency.

Chemistry

HL and SL

High demand around the scientific investigation and the equilibrium and energetics topics. Rates match the general IB specialist band, and the common waste is buying weekly hours all year when the problem is concentrated in two topics and one internal deadline.

Economics

HL and SL

Support here is usually bought for the internal assessment commentaries rather than the papers, which makes it a short defined block instead of a term-long commitment. Quotes should reflect that; a term-length plan for three commentaries is a plan sold rather than needed.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Priced at the lower end of the specialist band in the UAE because the pool is larger. The individual oral and the written tasks are where the hours concentrate, and both are feedback-intensive rather than content-intensive, which changes what an hour should contain.

Computer Science

HL and SL

A narrow specialism in Abu Dhabi, which pushes quotes towards the upper band. This is the clearest case in the Diploma where online matching changes the price you can access, because the local in-home pool is close to empty.

Theory of Knowledge

Core

Charged as essay-feedback sessions rather than weekly teaching, and the hours needed are few. A plan proposing a term of weekly Theory of Knowledge lessons for one 1,600-word essay is worth questioning before it is paid for.

Extended Essay

Core

Normally two to five sessions spread across a year, timed to the school's internal deadlines. Supervision is the school's job; a tutor's contribution is research-question narrowing and feedback on the student's own drafts, which is a small and well-bounded cost.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats, three price shapes. All three run one-to-one over live video, and the reason to choose between them is what you are trying to buy rather than what you are trying to spend.

Weekly Standard Level hour

One fixed hour a week with the same tutor, work set at the end of each session and marked before the next. Spread across a term this is the lowest cost per unit of progress, because nothing is repaid later in intensive rates, and it is the only format where a tutor builds a usable picture of how your child works against the clock.

  • Same tutor, same slot, same course all term
  • Marking between sessions included in the hour
  • A short written note after each session naming what moved
  • Scheduled in Gulf Standard Time around the Abu Dhabi school day

Defined block for the exploration

Three to five sessions timed to the school's internal deadlines, focused on the five criterion letters carrying the twenty marks. A defined block has a defined cost, which is the point: exploration support should never be an open-ended monthly commitment, and the highest-value session is the one before any mathematics is attempted.

  • Priced as a block, not as an ongoing plan
  • Research question narrowed in the first session
  • Criterion-by-criterion feedback on the student's own draft
  • No part of the submitted document originates with the tutor

Pre-examination intensive

Two or three sessions a week in the final weeks, on timed papers marked against published schemes. This is the most expensive way to buy the same progress, which is worth knowing before you choose it. It works, and it works better when it is topping up a weekly hour that started months earlier.

  • Timed conditions from the first session
  • One recurring error chased across several papers
  • Honest advice when a block cannot close the gap in time
  • Short by design, so the cost has an end date

What an hour of Standard Level Analysis costs in Abu Dhabi, by provider model

  • Compare models, not brands: centre, visiting tutor, platform, freelance
  • An in-home premium buys travel, not teaching
  • The MoHRE private tuition permit is free of charge and lasts two years
  • No figure on this page is IB Gram's price list

The useful comparison is not between named companies but between models, because the model determines the cost structure. A tuition centre pays rent and fills a room; a visiting tutor pays for a car and loses an hour in traffic; an online platform pays for matching and marking; a freelance tutor prices on whatever the last family agreed to. Four cost structures, four quite different numbers for an hour that a parent experiences as the same hour.

Every figure in the table below was published by whoever is credited for it and read in October 2026. Nothing in it is IB Gram's price list, and no figure here is an average of anything. Read it as the market's own disclosure, which is more than most of this market offers: three of the six strongest ranking pages for these queries publish no price at all, and the two that do publish in dollars.

The pattern worth noticing is that the in-home premium is not a quality premium. A visiting tutor at AED 300 and an online specialist at AED 300 are not the same purchase: in the first, some of the hour is a drive from the island to Khalifa City, and the pool of tutors available is whoever will make that drive on a Tuesday. The second is the whole pool and the whole hour. That is the single most consequential line in a Standard Level budget, and no competitor page states it.

On the last row, be careful. Private tuition in the UAE requires a MoHRE work permit introduced under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, granted free of charge for two years, with eligible applicants including registered teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and students aged 15 to 18. The permit costs nothing, so a tutor charging you a premium to cover licensing is charging for something that is free. Individuals tutoring without one are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule is published.

Seven things that move a Standard Level quote in this emirate

A quote is not a price, it is a response to your circumstances, and in Abu Dhabi the circumstances that move it are fairly predictable. Geography is the largest for in-home work: a tutor living on the island quoting for Al Shamkha is pricing a forty-minute drive each way. Timing is the second: the 5pm to 8pm weekday window is what nearly every Diploma family in the Gulf asks for, so it carries the most competition and the least flexibility.

Then comes the week of the academic year. Enquiries cluster before mocks and again a few weeks before the May session, and a specialist with a full timetable in March has no commercial reason to discount. The same request in September meets an emptier diary. Families who plan a weekly hour in DP1 are buying in the cheap part of the market; families ringing round in the final term are buying in the expensive part, with less time for it to work.

Specialism, format and the number of subjects also move the figure, and so does what is bundled. Two quotes of AED 250 are not comparable if one includes marking a timed paper between sessions and a written note, and the other is sixty minutes of conversation with no work set. The questions that separate them are simple: who marks the work, what arrives in writing afterwards, and what happens to the fee if a session is cancelled on either side.

The last factor is the one nobody lists. A quote often reflects what the provider thinks a family in a given district will pay, which is why an identical Standard Level hour is sometimes priced differently for Saadiyat Island and for Baniyas. Asking for the rate before describing your villa is not cynicism; it is how you find out whether you are being quoted a price or a postcode.

03

Monthly rather than hourly: what a term actually comes to

Households do not budget in hours, they budget in months, and the hourly figure is a poor guide to the monthly one. Bestimate's monthly estimates for a weekly one-hour session put budget tutoring at roughly AED 240 to 600, mid-market at AED 600 to 1,200 and specialist examination-year support at AED 1,000 to 2,000 and above. Packaged offers seen in this market include around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home sessions.

Those two package shapes are worth comparing carefully, because they are not the same product. Eight shorter online sessions distribute the work across a month, which is how a mathematics habit changes; four long in-home sessions concentrate it, which suits revision better than it suits learning. For Standard Level Analysis, where most of the useful work is practice between lessons rather than inside them, the frequent shorter pattern generally does more per dirham.

The table converts the published bands into plan shapes rather than packages, because the real question is how many hours a Standard Level student needs rather than what a provider wants to sell. A DP1 student with one weak topic area does not need the same plan as a DP2 student eight weeks from the papers with an unwritten exploration, and pricing them identically is how families end up paying twice.

One warning on pre-payment. A discounted ten-lesson block looks like a saving and is also a commitment made before anyone has seen your child work. If a block is offered, ask what happens to the unused portion if the match is wrong, and prefer an arrangement where the first lesson is free and the commitment starts afterwards. A provider confident in the match has no reason to need the money first.

What you are buying: Standard Level Analysis, precisely

  • Paper 1: 90 minutes, 80 marks, 40 per cent, no calculator
  • Paper 2: 90 minutes, 80 marks, 40 per cent, graphic display calculator
  • Exploration: 20 marks, 20 per cent, five criterion letters
  • No Paper 3 at Standard Level, so do not pay for Paper 3 preparation

Before paying for anything, check that the course on the quote matches the course on the timetable. Analysis and Approaches at Standard Level is 150 teaching hours across five topic areas, assessed by two papers of 90 minutes and 80 marks each, weighted 40 per cent apiece, plus a mathematical exploration worth 20 per cent and marked out of 20. There is no Paper 3 at Standard Level. A tutor quoting for Paper 3 preparation is quoting for the wrong course, and that is a surprisingly common way for families to overpay.

The two papers differ in one respect that drives most of the useful teaching. The first is sat without a calculator and rewards exact values, surds, logarithm manipulation and visible algebraic method. The second allows a graphic display calculator and punishes students who use it to produce an answer without writing the steps that earn the method marks. A Standard Level student who practises everything with technology to hand is rehearsing for one paper and not the other, and that pattern alone explains a great many disappointing mock results.

The exploration is where the spend decision is clearest. It is 20 per cent of the grade for a document of about twelve to twenty pages, marked across five criterion letters: presentation and mathematical communication at four marks each, personal engagement and reflection at three each, and use of mathematics at six. Because presentation, engagement and reflection carry fourteen of the twenty marks between them, the cheapest useful intervention is a single session before any mathematics is attempted, while the research question can still change.

Confirm the hours, weightings and criteria against your child's own copy of the current subject guide, which the school issues. The IB revises its guides and a tutoring page is not a syllabus. What is stable enough to budget around is the shape: two papers, no third paper, an internally assessed exploration, and a course whose content is more than two-thirds shared with Higher Level but assessed over considerably less examination time.

05

Tutoring spend in context: fees, places and what the market is doing

  • Dubai 2024-25: 387,441 students, 227 private schools, IB about 7 per cent
  • KHDA confirmed no Dubai fee increase for 2026-27 on 22 May 2026
  • Abu Dhabi fee policy sits with ADEK; read it on ADEK's own pages
  • Examination entry as a private candidate is a separate cost from tuition

A tutoring figure means little without the bill it sits beside. For scale in the region, Dubai's private school sector reported 387,441 students across 227 private schools offering 17 curricula in 2024-25, with International Baccalaureate students making up about 7 per cent of the total. That is the context in which a Diploma mathematics specialist is a narrow trade: a small share of a large market, which is exactly the shape that produces thin local supply and wide price spreads.

Fee policy is also moving. The Knowledge and Human Development Authority confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there would be no increase in private school fees in Dubai for the 2026-27 academic year, under an economic incentives package, and Dubai's 2026-27 intake adds seven new private schools, four British and three International Baccalaureate, creating 16,846 new places after enrolment rose 6 per cent in 2025-26. Those are Dubai figures from KHDA's own publications. Abu Dhabi fee policy sits with the Department of Education and Knowledge, and the current position should be read on ADEK's own pages rather than inferred from Dubai.

What this means for an Abu Dhabi household is that tutoring is a discretionary line next to a large fixed one, and the discretionary line is where the control sits. A weekly Standard Level hour at the mid-market band runs to a few hundred dirhams a month more than nothing and considerably less than a term of intensive support. The expensive outcome is not the hourly rate; it is buying two years of weekly hours when the diagnosis called for six sessions, or buying six sessions when the problem was a missing foundation.

The other context worth pricing is the examination itself. A candidate entered privately rather than through their school pays entry fees set by the board and administered by a centre, which is a separate cost from tuition and is not something a tutor can arrange on your behalf. If anyone quotes a combined figure covering tuition and examination entry, ask for the two numbers separately and ask which centre is named.

06

Where Abu Dhabi families most often waste money on maths support

  • A generalist hired for a named component is the costliest mistake available
  • Hours bought before a diagnosis are aimed at an unknown target
  • A group class covers the syllabus in syllabus order, not your child's order
  • Intensive blocks are a top-up, not a substitute for a term of weekly work

The commonest waste is hiring a generalist for a specific Diploma problem. A capable secondary maths tutor who has not taught Analysis and Approaches can run twenty pleasant sessions and change nothing, because the marks are being lost against named criteria in named components, and recognising that requires having marked the thing before. Families usually discover this in week five, having spent four figures to find out.

The second is buying hours before a diagnosis. A plan agreed over the phone on the strength of a reported grade is a plan aimed at an unknown target. A method-mark habit is three sessions; a missed topic area is six; a missing foundation underneath the course is a term and possibly a conversation about level instead. Those are wildly different purchases, and the only way to tell them apart is for somebody to read a marked script and watch the student work under time.

The third is the group class bought for an individual weakness. Group teaching has real value for pace and coverage, and almost none for a student whose problem is that they do not write method on Paper 2. The centre's schedule covers the syllabus in syllabus order, which is not the order your child's gaps are in. Paying per student for a shared pace is only cheap if the pace happens to match.

The fourth is the pre-examination intensive bought as a first resort. It is the most expensive way to acquire progress, because it buys specialist hours in the most contested weeks of the year and leaves no time for practice between sessions to do its work. It is also sometimes exactly right. The distinction is whether it is topping up a plan that has been running, or standing in for one that never existed.

07

The travel premium, and the arithmetic nobody shows you

  • A 5pm Khalifa City visit from the island is about eighty minutes of driving
  • Travel appears as a higher rate, a two-hour minimum, or a declined booking
  • The deeper cost is a smaller pool of people who teach the actual course
  • A teacher tutoring their own enrolled student is not a budget line to plan

Work the in-home figure through properly. A visiting tutor who accepts a 5pm booking in Khalifa City from a base on the island is committing somewhere around eighty minutes of driving around a sixty-minute lesson. No tutor absorbs that indefinitely, so it appears in the rate, in a two-hour minimum, in a refusal to take single bookings, or in a quiet preference for students who live near each other. Those are all versions of the same cost, and only one of them is visible on a quote.

There is a second cost that is harder to see. Travel shrinks the pool of people who will take your booking at all, and for Standard Level Analysis that pool is not large to begin with. The question that matters is not whether a tutor will come to your district; it is whether the person who will come to your district is the person who should be teaching this course. In much of Abu Dhabi, away from the central island streets, those are different people.

IB Gram does not send a tutor to a UAE address, and home visits in Abu Dhabi are not something we sell; that service exists only in India. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, the same tutor each week, with work set and marked between sessions. The argument for it here is financial as much as pedagogical: you stop paying for a drive, and you start choosing from everyone who teaches the course rather than everyone who lives near you.

For completeness, one in-home route genuinely does not exist. Press reporting on ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff says paid private tutoring of students enrolled at the teacher's own school is prohibited, and that staff tutoring outside school hours must hold the MoHRE permit, whose code of conduct bars serving students affiliated with their own school. Verify the current wording on ADEK's own policy page before relying on it, and do not budget for that option.

08

What to try before paying anyone at all

  • Ask the school for the mark breakdown by question, not the percentage
  • Run one timed non-calculator section at home and mark it against the scheme
  • Never pay for copies of past papers, mark schemes or subject guides
  • Take the free first lesson before agreeing to any ongoing arrangement

Some of the best interventions for Standard Level Analysis are free, and a tutoring page that does not say so is not being straight with you. Start with the school. A Diploma mathematics teacher running a set of fifteen will usually give a specific answer to a specific question, and the question that gets the most useful answer is not how my child is doing but which topic area and which paper the marks are being lost in. Ask for the mark breakdown by question rather than the percentage.

Second, change the practice conditions at home before changing the teaching. Have the student do one 90-minute section without a calculator, timed, with a phone in another room, and mark it against the published scheme. A surprising share of Standard Level problems resolve into two findings from that single exercise: the student has been practising with technology they will not have in Paper 1, and they are not writing the method the scheme awards marks for.

Third, use the free material that actually exists. Boards and schools publish specimen papers, subject guides and mark schemes, and the student's own school will have them. What you should not do is pay anyone for copies of past papers, mark schemes, grade boundary tables or subject guides, and nobody should be reproducing them for you: those documents belong to the boards, and reference and a link is the correct form.

Only after those three, consider paying. And when you do, take the free first lesson before agreeing to anything. One lesson, one per student, no card, no block booking, and it exists to produce a written diagnosis naming the leaking component. If that note says the problem belongs with the school rather than with a tutor, it says so, and you have spent nothing to learn the most useful thing available.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across Abu Dhabi

District matters less to an online rate than families expect, and a great deal to an in-home one. These notes cover what the geography of Abu Dhabi does to the price of a visit, and what it does to the hour a session can start.

Al Bateen and Al Khalidiyah

Central island streets with the shortest drives in the city, so in-home quotes here sit at the lower end of the travel premium and a 4.30pm start is realistic. These are the only Abu Dhabi districts where an in-home rate is close to a fair comparison with an online one.

Khalifa City

A large villa area twenty to forty minutes from the island depending on the hour. In-home tutors either price that drive in or decline the booking, which is why families here gather the widest spread of quotes for an identical Standard Level hour.

Al Raha Beach and Al Raha Gardens

Dense enough that an in-home tutor can sometimes fit two students in one evening, which is the one circumstance where a visiting rate is competitive. Ask whether the quote assumes that second booking, because it usually does.

Al Reem Island

Bridge traffic decides when a student is at a desk, and an in-home tutor crossing at 5pm is paying for it in time. Standard Level sessions from this island tend to start at 6pm or later regardless of format.

Yas Island and West Yas

Newer capacity with small Diploma cohorts and a thin local tutor pool, so in-home quotes carry a visible premium and group classes often are not available at all for a specific Standard Level topic.

Mohammed Bin Zayed City and Shakhbout City

Mainland communities with the longest commutes to the island schools. A weekday session before 5.30pm is usually unrealistic here, and weekend blocks are both cheaper in practice and more productive than a tired 7pm hour.

Al Shamkha and Al Falah

Further out again, where the travel component of an in-home quote is highest and the local specialist pool is smallest. Nearly every Standard Level enquiry from these districts ends up as a video arrangement for that reason alone.

Saadiyat Island

Short postings and frequent relocations, which changes the spending question: families here want a plan that survives a mid-year move rather than the lowest hourly figure. An online tutor transfers between countries without being rehired.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Abu Dhabi

Island and Saadiyat schools

Established Abu Dhabi schools and the newer Saadiyat campuses, with fees towards the top of the emirate's range. Families here are typically comparing a tutoring spend against an already substantial school bill, which is why cost in context matters more than an hourly figure.

  • American Community School of Abu Dhabi
  • Repton School Abu Dhabi

Khalifa City, Al Raha and Yas schools

The corridor holding most of Abu Dhabi's newer international capacity, with a wide fee spread. Raha International School runs the full IB continuum; several neighbours run British or American routes, so mathematics tutoring demand in this cluster is split across three different assessment systems.

Schools are named as context for where Abu Dhabi Diploma students study, with no affiliation, endorsement or partnership implied. Fee figures and inspection outcomes should be read on ADEK's own published listings and each school's own fee schedule.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the course, the level and the last marked script

'Analysis and Approaches SL, Paper 1 came back at 47 per cent, exploration not started' is a sentence that determines both the match and the plan. A reported grade without a script is a figure without a cause, and it is how families end up buying hours for the wrong component.

  2. 02

Take the free diagnostic lesson first

One lesson, one per student, no card details and no block booking. The tutor reads the marked work, asks your child to attempt something timed, and sends a written note naming the leaking component and the realistic shape of the fix, including the case where the honest answer is that the school should handle it.

  3. 03

Price the plan the diagnosis calls for

Three sessions for a method-mark habit, six for a missed topic area, a defined block for the exploration, or a term if the foundation is genuinely missing. Agree the shape before the rate, because a cheap hour aimed at the wrong component is the most expensive thing in this market.

  4. 04

Set a review point four to six weeks out

Agree at the start when you will look at evidence rather than impressions, and what evidence it will be: per-question marks, method marks earned on calculator questions, completion time on a timed section. A review date fixed in advance is worth more than any discount negotiated at the start.

  5. 05

Stop, change or extend on the evidence

If the scripts have moved, continue. If they have not, change the tutor, the format or the diagnosis rather than adding hours to a plan that is not working. Renewing because a plan has become routine is how a few hundred dirhams a month becomes several thousand with nothing to show.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Rates are attributed, not asserted

Every AED band on this page carries the name of whoever published it and the month it was read. Three of the strongest pages competing for these searches publish no price at all, and two publish in US dollars. Showing the method is the point of the exercise.

You are not paying for a drive

Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not visit UAE addresses; home visits are a service we run only in India. That removes the travel component from the hour and widens the pool of people who can teach the actual course.

The free lesson has its condition stated

One free lesson, one per student, no card required and no block booking. It exists to produce a written diagnosis rather than a quote. Any offer described as free without its condition printed beside it should be read carefully, here or anywhere.

Marking is inside the hour, not beside it

Work is set at the end of each session and marked before the next, and a short written note follows each lesson. Two quotes at the same number are not the same purchase if one of them is sixty minutes of conversation with nothing set and nothing marked.

We will tell you when not to buy

If the honest answer is that the problem belongs with the school, or that a Higher Level grade is not recoverable in the time left, or that no specialist is free at your hours, the written note says so. An honest no costs a family nothing and saves them a term.

Regulatory facts carry their source

ADEK licenses and inspects Abu Dhabi private schools. The MoHRE private tuition permit is free of charge for two years under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, and no fine schedule is published. IB Gram holds no regulator or board accreditation and claims none.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Abu Dhabi: your questions answered

What should we expect to pay for Standard Level Analysis support in the Abu Dhabi market?+

Published UAE bands put qualified online subject tutoring at roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour, IB and A-Level specialists at AED 200 to 450, in-home one-to-one visits at AED 180 to 350 reaching about 500 at the specialist end, and entry-level online tutoring from AED 33 to 65. TutorChase publishes AED 270 and BartyED publishes AED 650 at the premium end. Standard Level Analysis usually sits in the middle of the specialist band, below Higher Level, because the course has no third paper and a deeper tutor pool. Those are market figures from their publishers, not IB Gram's prices.

Why would two tutors quote AED 180 and AED 400 for what sounds like the same Standard Level hour?+

Four reasons, and only one is teaching quality. Format: a group class, a video lesson and a visit to your district are different products. Travel: an in-home rate contains the drive whether or not it is itemised. Specialism: someone who marks against the exploration criteria and teaches this course costs more than a general maths tutor. And what is bundled: marking a timed paper between sessions and sending a written note is worth considerably more than sixty minutes of conversation. Ask who marks the work and what arrives in writing, and the two quotes stop looking comparable.

Is a tuition centre group class cheaper than one-to-one for this course?+

Per hour, usually yes: entry rates published in this market start around AED 33 to 65 per student. Per unit of progress, it depends entirely on the problem. A group covers the syllabus in syllabus order at the centre's pace, which is excellent for coverage and nearly useless for a student whose specific issue is that they produce answers on a calculator without writing method. If the weakness is broad and the student is behind across topics, a group is good value. If it is one named habit in one paper, you are paying for a pace that does not fit.

Does a visiting maths tutor in Abu Dhabi charge for travel time?+

Almost always, though rarely as a separate line. A tutor accepting a 5pm booking in Khalifa City from a base on the island is committing roughly eighty minutes of driving around a sixty-minute lesson, and that appears as a higher hourly rate, a two-hour minimum, a refusal to take single bookings, or a preference for students living close together. The second cost is less visible: travel shrinks the pool willing to take the booking, and for Standard Level Analysis that pool is already thin outside the central island districts.

Are tutoring fees in Abu Dhabi quoted with VAT included or added?+

Ask, in writing, before you agree anything, because practice varies between providers and the answer changes the number. We do not state the UAE VAT treatment of tuition fees on this page, because that is a Federal Tax Authority matter and any claim about it should carry an FTA citation rather than a tutoring company's opinion. What a family can reasonably insist on is clarity about the specific quote in front of them: is this figure the total payable, and does the provider hold a tax registration number if they are charging tax on it.

How many Standard Level sessions does a term usually come to, and what is the monthly figure?+

A weekly hour is four sessions a month, which Bestimate's monthly estimates place at roughly AED 240 to 600 at the budget tier, AED 600 to 1,200 mid-market and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist examination-year support. Packaged offers in this market include about AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home visits. For Standard Level Analysis, frequent shorter sessions generally outperform fewer long ones, because most of the useful work happens between lessons rather than inside them.

Do maths tutoring rates in Abu Dhabi climb before the May session?+

Effective rates do, even where published ones do not. Enquiries cluster before mocks and again in the weeks before the May examinations, and a specialist with a full timetable in March has no commercial reason to discount or to offer a convenient slot. The same request in September meets an emptier diary and more flexibility on both price and timing. Families who start a weekly hour in DP1 are buying in the cheap part of the market; families ringing round in the final term are buying in the expensive part, with less time left for it to work.

Should we pay for a discounted block of ten lessons up front?+

Only after a free diagnostic lesson, and only if you know what happens to the unused portion. A pre-paid block looks like a saving and is also a commitment made before anyone has watched your child work, which is the wrong order. Ask three questions: what is refunded if the match is wrong, does the block expire, and who marks the work between sessions. A provider confident in the match has no particular reason to need the money first, and the first lesson being free should not depend on a block being bought.

Is exploration support billed separately from the weekly Standard Level lessons?+

It should be visible either way, because it is a defined piece of work rather than an open-ended one. The exploration is 20 per cent of the grade and 20 marks across five criterion letters, and most students need three to five focused sessions timed to the school's internal deadlines. Priced as a block, that cost has an end date. Priced as an extension of a monthly plan, it tends not to. The highest-value session is the first one, before any mathematics is attempted, while the research question can still be changed.

Our budget is around AED 150 an hour. Is Standard Level support still worth starting?+

Yes, with realistic expectations about what that band buys. At AED 150 you are at the lower edge of the qualified-subject-tutor range rather than in the IB specialist band, so ask directly whether the tutor has taught Analysis and Approaches and marked an exploration against its criteria. Then concentrate the budget: fortnightly sessions on one named weakness, with marked work in between, beat weekly general lessons at the same monthly spend. Take the free first lesson before committing, because the diagnosis may show the fix is three sessions rather than a term.

Does one tutor covering two Diploma subjects cost less than hiring two?+

Sometimes, and it is worth asking, but check what you are trading. A tutor who genuinely teaches both Analysis and Approaches and Physics at the level your child sits them is a real saving in money and in coordination. A tutor who teaches one well and the other approximately is a false economy, because the weaker subject quietly absorbs hours without moving. In Abu Dhabi the common pairing is maths with physics, and the honest version of the answer is that it depends on the individual tutor rather than on the policy.

What should an hourly rate actually include besides the lesson itself?+

At the specialist end of this market, a reasonable expectation is work set at the end of each session, that work marked before the next, a short written note saying what moved, and a named recurring error being tracked rather than silently corrected. Messages between sessions vary by provider and should be asked about rather than assumed. Two quotes at the same figure are not the same purchase if one contains all of that and the other is sixty minutes of conversation, and the difference is invisible until the first month has been paid for.

What exactly does the free first lesson include, and what is the catch?+

One lesson, one per student, with no card details taken and no block booking required. The tutor reads the most recent marked work, asks your child to attempt something under time, and sends you a written note naming which component is losing marks and the realistic shape of the fix. The condition is simply that it is a single lesson rather than a trial period, and that it is diagnostic rather than a free hour of teaching. If the note concludes the problem belongs with the school, it says so and nothing further is sold.

How does a tutoring spend compare with what Abu Dhabi families already pay in school fees?+

It is a small discretionary line beside a large fixed one, which is exactly why it is worth controlling rather than guessing at. For regional scale, Dubai reported 387,441 students across 227 private schools in 2024-25, with IB students about 7 per cent of the total, and KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that Dubai fees would not rise for 2026-27. Abu Dhabi fee policy sits with ADEK and should be read on its own pages. The expensive error is never the hourly rate; it is buying two years of hours when the diagnosis called for six sessions.

What is the cheapest honest thing to try before hiring anyone for Standard Level maths?+

Three things, all free. Ask the school's mathematics teacher for the mark breakdown by question rather than the percentage, and ask which topic area and which paper the marks are going in. Then have your child sit one timed 90-minute non-calculator section at home, phone in another room, marked against the published scheme. Then look at what that exercise reveals, which is often that the practice conditions were wrong rather than the teaching. Do not pay anyone for copies of past papers, mark schemes or subject guides; the school has them and the boards own them.

Get the diagnosis first, then price the plan

The number that decides what Standard Level Analysis support costs your household is not the hourly rate. It is how many hours the actual problem needs, and that is knowable in one free lesson rather than guessable over the phone. Send the course, the level and the most recent marked script, and say which paper the marks are going in if you know. You will get a written note naming the leaking component and the realistic shape of the fix, priced as a block where a block is what is needed. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, every AED figure on this page belongs to the source named beside it, and if the honest answer is that you should not be buying hours at all, the note will say that too.
