IB & IGCSE in the UAE

What the last three points actually cost

A 45 is not a harder version of a 40. It is a different purchase. At 38 or 40 a family is buying teaching: content that was never properly covered, a topic that was skipped, a habit of leaving Paper 2 half-finished. At 43 or 44 the teaching is already done. What is left is the margin between a strong answer and a complete one, and that margin does not respond to more hours in the same way. Understanding which of those two things you are buying is the single biggest determinant of whether IB score 45 coaching in the UAE is worth the money.

The arithmetic is unforgiving and worth stating plainly. Six subjects are graded one to seven, which caps the subject total at 42. The remaining three points come from the combination of the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge grades, awarded through the IB's published core-points matrix. A 45 therefore requires a seven in all six subjects and the full three core points, with no failing condition triggered anywhere. Confirm the current matrix and the current failing conditions with your child's IB coordinator, because they are revised and this page is not the IB.

That arithmetic changes where the money should go. Most UAE families chasing the top band spend on their child's weakest Higher Level subject, because that is where the school report draws attention. The cheaper point is almost always in the core. A student predicted 43 with one core point available is one well-supervised Extended Essay away from 44, and that supervision is six to ten hours of work spread over months, not two hours a week for two years. The subject point, by contrast, can absorb eighty hours and still not arrive.

UAE market rates make the comparison concrete. Published rates run from roughly AED 45 an hour at the budget end of the online platforms to AED 650 for a premium named tutor, with IB and IGCSE specialists sitting at AED 200-450 and above. Those are market figures, each attributable to a provider who published it, and they are set out in full further down this page. What none of the providers publish is the thing a parent at 43 actually needs: how many of those hours convert into a point, and at what stage they stop converting at all.

This page is built around that question rather than around a sales pitch. It sets out how the 45 is assembled, what the UAE market charges and who charges it, where the next point is cheapest from each starting profile, what a tutor may and may not touch on an Internal Assessment, how one-to-one online tuition compares with a home visit bought locally, and how to check that the person you are paying is permitted to teach privately in the UAE at all. It also says, in plain terms, where the honest answer is to stop paying.

At a glance

  • 42 points come from six subjects graded one to seven; the final three come from the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge combination
  • Market rates for IB specialists in the UAE run AED 200-450 and above per hour, per Bestimate's 2026 rate table and TutorChase's published AED 270
  • The cheapest remaining point for most students predicted 40-43 sits in the core, not in a subject
  • IB Gram delivers this as one-to-one online tuition over live video; we do not arrange home visits in the UAE
  • Private tutoring in the UAE requires a MoHRE private tuition work permit under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, granted free of charge for two years
  • No tutor, agency or platform can promise a 45, and any page that does is telling you something about itself
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Only one IB programme produces a score out of 45. The other two matter to a top-band attempt for a different reason: they decide how well prepared a student is when DP1 starts, and whether the first term is spent learning content or learning how the IB marks.

DPAges 16-19 - Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

The two-year Diploma is the only IB programme scored out of 45. Students take six subjects, three at Higher Level and three at Standard Level, and complete the three core elements: the Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge and Creativity, Activity, Service. Subject grades run one to seven and are set by a mixture of externally examined papers and internally assessed work that is externally moderated.

Across the UAE the Diploma is the smaller share of a large private-school market. In Dubai, KHDA recorded 387,441 pupils across 227 private schools offering 17 curricula in 2024-25, with IB programmes accounting for 7 per cent of that enrolment. The intake for 2026-27 adds seven new private schools, three of them International Baccalaureate, creating 16,846 new places. A thin DP cohort in one school is why top-band specialism is often found online rather than nearby.

MYPAges 11-16 - Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

The Middle Years Programme assesses against criteria rather than against papers, and reports on a one-to-eight scale per criterion. Students arrive in DP1 fluent in criterion language and inquiry, and often unfamiliar with timed, closed-book examination technique. That gap is the most common reason a capable MYP student posts a five in the first DP mock and a family starts looking for coaching.

UAE schools running MYP into DP usually transition in a single August, with the mandatory Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies timetable continuing unchanged through both. For a student aiming at the top band, the useful work happens in the MYP5 summer: examination technique, Higher Level subject choice, and an honest look at whether Mathematics Analysis and Approaches HL is the right route rather than the prestigious one.

CPAges 16-19 - Years 12-13

Career-related Programme

The Career-related Programme combines at least two Diploma courses with a career-related study, a reflective project and a personal and professional skills course. It is a genuine IB qualification and it is not scored out of 45. Diploma courses taken within it are still graded one to seven, so subject-level coaching works the same way, but the core-points arithmetic on this page does not apply.

Fewer UAE schools offer the Career-related Programme than offer the Diploma, so families comparing the two are usually choosing between schools as much as between programmes. If your child is on CP and someone quotes you for 45-point coaching, that is a signal to ask what they think they are selling. The right question for a CP student is which Diploma courses are being taken and what each one needs.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

At the top of the scale the subject matters less than the component. A seven is usually lost in one identifiable place: a paper, a criterion, a topic. The notes below name where that tends to happen for UAE candidates rather than restating the syllabus.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

The Higher Level course carries Paper 3, an extended problem-solving paper that rewards sustained reasoning rather than recall. Top-band candidates rarely lose marks on technique; they lose them on the unfamiliar opening of a Paper 3 question and on exploration criteria, where personal engagement and reflection are marked but seldom practised.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Applications and Interpretation is modelling-led and technology-heavy, and a seven depends on reading context accurately before touching the calculator. Students who switched from Analysis and Approaches mid-DP1 often carry an algebraic reflex that costs marks here, where the examiner wants interpretation of the model and a stated limitation.

Physics

HL and SL

Physics sevens are won on the long-answer and data-analysis components rather than on multiple choice. The recurring loss for strong candidates is uncertainty treatment in the internal assessment and an unexamined assumption in an extended answer. Both are coachable in a handful of sessions once the specific pattern is identified from marked scripts.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Organic mechanisms and energetics absorb most revision time, while the marks at the top end move on data-based questions and on the internal assessment's evaluation section. A candidate already at six usually needs criterion-level feedback on their own write-up, not another pass through the reactions of alcohols.

Biology

HL and SL

Biology rewards precision of command terms more than breadth. Strong UAE candidates frequently describe where the paper asks them to explain, and lose the seventh mark across many small deductions rather than one failure. Marking their own past-paper answers against the published criteria is the intervention that moves this.

Economics

HL and SL

Diagram accuracy and real-world evidence carry the grade, and Higher Level adds quantitative demands that catch out students comfortable with the theory. The internal assessment commentaries are the component where a top-band student most often leaves marks on the table through article choice rather than through analysis.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

The individual oral and the Higher Level essay reward a controlled argument about a global issue, not a tour of the text. Candidates predicted six tend to be assessment-literate but under-rehearsed on the oral, where ten minutes of unstructured talk costs a band. Rehearsal with criterion feedback is the whole of the fix.

Business Management

HL and SL

Case-study response discipline decides the grade: tools applied to the stimulus, with a conclusion that answers the command term. Higher Level candidates lose marks by writing everything they know about a tool rather than the part that bears on the case. The internal assessment stands or falls on the research question.

Computer Science

HL and SL

Higher Level adds abstract data structures and resource management, where strong coders often under-perform because the paper wants explanation rather than implementation. The solution component is where sevens are decided, and it needs supervision on documentation and testing rather than help with the code.

Arabic B and Arabic ab initio

HL, SL and ab initio

Arabic language courses matter twice over for UAE candidates: once as a Group 2 subject graded one to seven, and once because Arabic is a mandatory school subject under KHDA requirements regardless of the licensed curriculum. Written productive skills and the individual oral carry the grade, and both are rehearsable.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three shapes of support cover almost every top-band request we receive. All three are delivered as one-to-one online tuition over live video in Gulf Standard Time. The right one depends on how many points are genuinely available and where they sit.

Weekly one-to-one subject work

A fixed hour each week with a specialist in one subject at one level, built around the student's own marked scripts rather than a generic scheme. At top-band level the session is usually half diagnosis and half rehearsal: find the component where the seventh mark is going, then practise that component against the published criteria until the pattern changes.

  • One subject, one level, one specialist, same slot each week
  • Driven by the student's marked mocks and class assessments
  • Timed component practice, marked against the criteria wording
  • Written note after each session so the student can re-read the feedback

Core supervision blocks for the Extended Essay, TOK and internal assessments

A short, dense block of sessions at the points in the year where the core actually moves: research-question design, the first full draft, the reflection, the final check against the criteria. The tutor reads, questions and gives feedback. The student is the sole author of every word that is submitted, and the school supervisor remains the person who signs the work off.

  • Research-question and prescribed-title sessions before any drafting starts
  • Criterion-by-criterion feedback on the student's own draft
  • Reflection and viva preparation for the Extended Essay process
  • Explicit academic-honesty boundaries, stated at the first session

Final-stretch sprint before the May session

An intensive block in the last eight to ten weeks, usually across two subjects, aimed at components rather than syllabus. For a student holding a predicted 43 or 44 this is where the available points are, and the sessions look less like teaching and more like supervised examination practice with immediate marking and a short list of repeat errors.

  • Two or three sessions a week across the two weakest components
  • Full timed papers marked and returned inside 48 hours
  • A running list of repeat errors, reviewed weekly
  • Sessions taper in the final fortnight so revision and sleep both survive

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in the UAE

01

What a 45 is made of, before anyone quotes you a price

  • Six subjects graded one to seven cap the subject total at 42
  • Three further points come from the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge combination
  • A failing condition removes the diploma regardless of how strong the subject grades are
  • Confirm the current core-points matrix with your IB coordinator, not with a tutoring page

A 45 is six sevens plus the full three core points, with no failing condition triggered. That is the whole specification, and it is worth writing down before a single hour is bought, because it tells you immediately which points are still available to your child and which are already gone. A student with a five in one Standard Level subject in DP1 is not out of the top band, but the path there now runs through a two-grade lift in that subject, which is a different and more expensive purchase than the one most families think they are making.

The six subject grades are produced by externally examined papers plus internally assessed work that is marked by the teacher and externally moderated. Both halves can cost a seven, and they fail in different ways. Papers are lost to technique and timing. Internal assessments are lost to criteria: a research question that cannot be answered in the space available, an evaluation section that lists limitations without weighing them, a reflection that reports feelings rather than learning. The second kind is cheaper to fix because it is fixable once, in writing, before submission.

The three core points are awarded on the combination of the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge grades through the IB's published matrix, and a sufficiently weak result in either can also trigger a failing condition that removes the diploma entirely. Those rules are revised, so confirm the current matrix and failing conditions with your child's IB coordinator or on the IB's own assessment pages rather than taking them from any tutoring site, this one included. What does not change is the shape of the arithmetic: the core is three points out of forty-five decided by two pieces of written work, and it is the part of the diploma over which a student has the most control and the longest run-up.

What top-band IB coaching costs in the UAE, and who publishes those numbers

Three of the six most visible tutoring pages in this market publish no price at all, and the two that do quote United States dollars, which is not the currency a UAE family transacts in. The table below is the AED version, assembled from rates those providers published themselves plus Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 rate table. These are market rates, not IB Gram's price list. Our own figure comes out of a conversation about how many hours the point gap actually needs, which is the only responsible way to quote for a 44-or-45 attempt.

Read the table by what the hour buys rather than by the number. At the budget end, AED 45-150 an hour buys supervision and content catch-up from a tutor who may be a university student, and that is a reasonable purchase for a student at 32 who skipped a term. It is a poor purchase at 43, because the work left is criterion-level feedback on Higher Level components, and a tutor who has not marked at that level cannot give it. The middle band, AED 150-300, is where a properly qualified subject tutor sits. IB and IGCSE specialists run AED 200-450 and above.

The premium band deserves a specific warning. AED 500-650 an hour is a defensible spend on a narrowly defined problem: one Paper 3 technique, one internal assessment criterion, one oral rehearsal. It is rarely a defensible weekly habit over two years, and the arithmetic of IB DP HL tutoring rates at that level is brutal once multiplied by eighty weeks. Be sceptical of anyone selling examiner status as a general advantage rather than as a specific skill, and more sceptical still of any page that attaches a grade to a price. Nobody can sell you a point.

The marginal point: where the next point is cheapest from each starting profile

Hours do not convert into points at a constant rate. The first ten hours spent on a subject a student has genuinely not understood can move two grades. The eightieth hour spent on a subject where the student already answers correctly but slightly incompletely may move nothing at all. This is the single piece of analysis the UAE tutoring market does not publish, and it is the one a family at 43 needs before signing up to a weekly slot for eighteen months.

The table below is a planning tool, not a promise, and it is built from the shape of the assessment rather than from any claim about outcomes. Read down the left column to your child's current prediction, then read the right-hand column first. In most profiles there is something cheaper than hours: a set of marked scripts nobody has read properly, a research question that needs narrowing, a Paper 2 timing habit that costs eight marks an hour. Those cost a conversation and a fortnight of discipline.

Two profiles deserve particular attention. A student predicted 40-42 with a core point still in play is in the best position on the table, because core supervision is the lowest-cost point available anywhere in the diploma. A student predicted 44 with both core points already secured is in the worst, not because they are weak but because there is nothing cheap left: the remaining point sits in a component where they already perform well, and buying it means a large number of hours with a low conversion rate. The honest advice at that point is to protect sleep, protect the deadlines, and stop paying.

THE MARGINAL POINT - WHAT THE NEXT POINT COSTS FROM EACH PROFILE

04

The three core points are the cheapest points on the board

The Extended Essay and TOK core points are worth three of forty-five, which is the same weight as moving three subject grades. They are decided by two pieces of written work with deadlines a student knows a year in advance, and they are the only part of the diploma where a candidate controls both the question and the timetable. Despite that, the Extended Essay and TOK core points are the part of the Diploma UAE families most often buy support for last, usually in the term when the draft is already due.

Length limits are the practical constraint and the most common cause of a lost band. A research question that would need twelve thousand words to answer properly cannot score well in four thousand, however good the student is, and no amount of later editing rescues it. The same applies to the TOK essay on a prescribed title and to the exhibition with its three objects: each has a published limit, and each rewards an argument sized to that limit. Confirm every figure in the table below against the current subject guide your child's school issues, because the guides are revised.

What supervision looks like here is narrower than people expect. The useful sessions are a question-design session before any drafting, one round of criterion-by-criterion Internal Assessment feedback or essay feedback on the student's own draft, and a reflection session before the final submission. That is six to ten hours across several months. At market specialist rates of AED 200-450 and above, that is a defined and modest spend for a point that is genuinely available, which is why it belongs at the front of a top-band plan rather than at the end.

LENGTH LIMITS ON THE CORE AND THE INTERNAL ASSESSMENTS - CONFIRM EACH AGAINST THE CURRENT SUBJECT GUIDE YOUR SCHOOL ISSUES

05

Where UAE families waste money chasing a 45

  • Two components at a time beats six subjects at once, every time
  • Insist that marked work comes back in writing after each session
  • Core supervision bought a year out costs a fraction of core supervision bought in panic
  • Walk away from any provider that offers finished coursework at any price

The most expensive mistake is buying hours in six subjects at once. It feels thorough and it is the standard response to a report card with three sixes on it, but it produces a student with no free evenings, six sets of homework from six tutors, and less time for the timed practice that actually moves a Higher Level grade. A top-band plan is narrow by design: two components at a time, with everything else held steady by the school.

The second is paying for teaching when the problem is marking. A student predicted six in Biology who describes where the paper says explain does not need the content taught again. They need twenty of their own answers marked against the criteria with the deduction named each time. Many families pay a premium hourly rate for a tutor to re-present material the student already knows, because re-teaching is what a tutoring session looks like and marking is not. Ask explicitly for marked work to come back, in writing, after every session.

The third is late buying. Core supervision purchased three weeks before a deadline can tidy a draft; it cannot change a research question. Subject coaching started six weeks before the May session can fix timing and technique, which is real, but it cannot build two years of content. Both are worth doing and both cost more per point than the same money spent a year earlier. The fourth mistake is paying anything at all to a provider who offers to produce the work: that is an academic-honesty breach, it is an expulsion risk for the student, and it is sold openly in this market at four-figure AED prices.

06

Predicted grades, offers and the point where 45 stops mattering

Universities make offers against predicted grades, not against final scores, which means the number that governs your child's destination is decided well before the May session. For most courses the offer sits in a band rather than at a point: a conditional offer of 38 with sixes in Higher Level subjects does not become better because the candidate finishes on 45. Knowing where the offer threshold sits is therefore the first piece of information a family should gather, because it tells you whether the last two points are worth buying at all.

Subject prerequisites bite harder than the total. A student with a 44 and the wrong mathematics route can be ineligible for a course that would have accepted 38 with Mathematics Analysis and Approaches HL. Engineering, economics and most quantitative sciences specify the route, and the decision is made in DP1 when nobody is thinking about admissions. IB predicted grades also feed scholarship decisions at several UAE institutions, which is the one place where the difference between 42 and 45 does translate into money.

There is a separate regulatory step that has nothing to do with rank. Students using a UAE school certificate for local admission go through Ministry of Education equivalency, and the published requirements differ by curriculum. For the British track the Ministry requires five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than grade E or 3, with Arabic and Islamic education excluded from that count, plus one subject at Advanced Level at no less than E or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. No IB points threshold for MoE equivalency should be taken from any tutoring page, including this one. Verify it on moe.gov.ae or with the attestation authority in your emirate.

07

What a tutor may and may not touch on an internal assessment, Extended Essay or TOK essay

This is the boundary that decides whether coaching helps your child or ends their diploma. IB academic-honesty rules require that assessed work is the student's own, and a breach is investigated as malpractice with consequences that fall on the student rather than on the tutor. One provider visible in this market sells finished Internal Assessments at a four-figure AED price. That is not a cheaper route to a 45; it is the fastest available route to losing the diploma entirely.

The line is not blurry, and it is easy to state. A tutor may teach the underlying content, explain what a criterion is asking for, ask questions that make a student's reasoning visible, read a draft the student has produced and say where it falls short of the criteria, and rehearse an oral. A tutor may not become an author of any part of the submission, supply wording for it, re-work a paragraph into its final form, or hand over a model answer for adaptation. The school supervisor remains the person who signs the work off and attests to its authenticity.

A practical test helps families police this without expertise in the subject. After a session, ask your child to explain the change they made and why the criterion required it. If they can, the session was teaching. If the document improved and the explanation did not, something went wrong. Keep the drafts. A supervisor who can see a sequence of the student's own drafts has everything needed to sign the work off, and a student who can talk through their own reflection has nothing to fear from a viva.

One-to-one online tuition against a home visit, for a top-band attempt

Home tutoring is a real and large part of the UAE market, and the honest version of what it costs is in the rate table above: AED 180-500 an hour for a one-to-one visit, with travel priced into the hour, and monthly packages of AED 1,599-1,799 for four two-hour sessions. The hidden cost is not money. It is the fact that the tutor pool shrinks to whoever is willing to drive to your address inside your window, which in practice means a capable generalist rather than a Chemistry Higher Level specialist.

IB Gram does not arrange home visits in the UAE; home visits are a service we offer only in India. We deliver this as one-to-one online tuition over live video, and the case for that is strongest exactly at the top of the scale. A student predicted six in one Higher Level component needs the person who knows that component, not the person who lives nearby. Removing the drive also removes the constraint that pushes sessions into the worst hour of a UAE school evening, after a school run and before homework.

The screen is also a better working surface for this kind of work than a dining table. A marked script shared on screen, annotated live and saved afterwards, is a document the student can re-read the following week; a conversation over a paper copy is not. For a travelling family the continuity argument settles it: the same online IB tutor in the UAE stays with the student across a summer abroad and a change of address, and a two-year diploma cannot afford to restart its coaching relationship in DP2.

Checking that the person you are paying is permitted to teach privately in the UAE

Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, it is granted free of charge for two years, and individuals offering private tutoring without one are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule is published, so treat any page quoting a figure with suspicion. MoHRE's own service page is listed as Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, with a two-working-day completion time, applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website or e-services system.

Eligibility is wider than most parents expect. The permit is open to teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, university students, and school students aged fifteen to eighteen. That breadth is why the permit alone tells you little about teaching quality at Higher Level: a permitted tutor may be a sixteen-year-old or a head of department. Ask the permit question and the marking-experience question separately, because they are different questions with different answers.

There is one further distinction worth holding onto. A tutoring operation with premises and staff in Dubai is a different legal animal from an individual tutor: it requires a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, with initial approval first and renewal requested at least thirty days before expiry. IB Gram holds no regulator approval of any kind and claims none; we are a matching platform, not a licensed institute, and there is no UAE centre to visit. In Abu Dhabi, note that ADEK's professional-ethics rules bar school staff from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, so the tutor your child already knows from the classroom is usually not an available option.

Coaching cost in context: school fees, the two-year plan and what you are really buying

Tutoring is usually the second education line in a UAE household budget, and it is the one with no published price list. The first line is more stable than it has been for years: KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there will be no increase in school fees for private schools in Dubai for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion. The KHDA private school fee freeze is the right anchor for a conversation about what a coaching plan should cost, because it fixes the larger number while you decide the smaller one.

Bestimate's monthly estimates for weekly one-hour sessions run AED 240-600 at the budget end, AED 600-1,200 in the middle and AED 1,000-2,000 and above for specialist exam-year support. Multiply the specialist band across two subjects and twenty teaching months and the two-year figure becomes large enough to deserve the same scrutiny as a school fee. The useful discipline is to price the plan against the point gain you are actually buying rather than against a monthly feeling of doing something.

That is why our own conversation starts with the gap rather than with a rate. If a student is predicted 43 with a core point available, the plan is small: a core supervision block and one weekly subject hour, reviewed after the next mock. If a student is predicted 38 with two weak Higher Level subjects, the plan is larger and longer and the point arithmetic is better. If a student is predicted 44 with both core points secured, the honest recommendation is a short diagnostic block and then nothing, and we will say so rather than sell a schedule.

The UAE week: mandatory subjects, Ramadan and how much study time a 45 attempt really has

A top-band plan is a plan about a week, and the UAE week has fixed commitments that no competitor page in this market mentions. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral studies are mandatory in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum, and KHDA requires that those requirements be implemented from the start of the 2025-26 academic year. They are timetabled hours, they are assessed, and a Diploma revision plan has to work around them rather than pretend they are not there.

The organisational rules matter for planning too. KHDA requires separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, and combined classes for the two groups are prohibited because the curriculum expectations and the language of instruction differ. Instructional time is calculated on a forty-minute lesson unit, with schools free to vary lesson length provided the weekly total is met and a minimum of twenty-five minutes advised for any mandatory subject lesson. Teachers of Islamic Education and Arabic need appropriate KHDA approval to teach those subjects, and for the mandatory subjects any different or additional content needs prior permission from the Ministry of Education.

Ramadan reshapes the rest. School hours shorten, the productive part of the day moves, and a 5pm session that worked in January becomes the worst hour of the day. Families on a top-band plan usually move sessions to a post-Iftar slot for the month, keep the frequency and shorten the length, and accept that one week of the month is for consolidation rather than new material. Because lessons are delivered online in Gulf Standard Time, that shift is a scheduling change rather than a renegotiation with someone who has to drive. Plan it in advance: the Diploma deadlines do not move for the calendar, so the calendar has to be absorbed by the plan.

Where we tutor

Where our UAE students sit the Diploma

Which emirate a family lives in changes who regulates the school, who approves its fees and curriculum, and how deep the local pool of Higher Level specialists goes. The last of those is the practical reason top-band coaching in the smaller emirates tends to happen online.

Dubai

Regulated by KHDA, which oversees the quality of private education in the emirate. KHDA recorded 387,441 pupils across 227 private schools and 17 curricula in 2024-25, with IB programmes at 7 per cent of enrolment. Three of the seven new schools opening for 2026-27 are IB.

Abu Dhabi

Regulated by ADEK, which supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in the emirate. ADEK's professional-ethics rules bar private and charter school staff from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, which is why an external specialist is the normal route here.

Al Ain

Also under ADEK. The Diploma cohort per school is smaller than in Abu Dhabi city, so a student needing Physics HL or Mathematics Analysis and Approaches HL at top-band level will often find no local specialist free at the hour they can actually study.

Sharjah

Regulated by the Sharjah Private Education Authority, which approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. Fee and curriculum approval sitting with the emirate regulator is worth knowing before a family compares two schools' Diploma offerings.

Ajman

The federal Ministry of Education supervises private schools in Ajman. The IB cohort is small and concentrated in a handful of schools, which makes evening online sessions the only realistic way to reach a subject-and-level specialist without a cross-emirate commute.

Ras Al Khaimah

The Department of Knowledge regulates private education in Ras Al Khaimah and approves fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. Competitor pages in this market mention the emirate essentially not at all, which tells you how thin local provision is.

Fujairah

Supervised by the federal Ministry of Education. Families here are usually choosing between a local school and a longer commute to Dubai or Sharjah, and the commute is exactly what a DP2 evening cannot absorb once the Extended Essay and internal assessment deadlines land.

Umm Al Quwain

Also supervised by the federal Ministry of Education. The smallest private-school market of the seven emirates, and the clearest case for delivering specialist Diploma coaching over live video rather than waiting for a specialist to exist within driving distance.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in the UAE

Dubai

The deepest IB market in the country, and the one where top-band candidates most often sit in a cohort with several other students chasing the same grade. Named here as ecosystem context for families comparing where the Diploma is taught.

  • Dubai International Academy - Emirates Hills
  • GEMS World Academy - Dubai
  • Jumeirah English Speaking School - Arabian Ranches
  • Uptown International School
  • Deira International School
  • Greenfield International School

Abu Dhabi and Al Ain

A smaller Diploma market under ADEK, where the per-school cohort is often a single teaching group. That is the structural reason an external Higher Level specialist is usually the practical option for a student already predicted six.

  • Raha International School
  • Cranleigh Abu Dhabi
  • GEMS World Academy - Abu Dhabi
  • Al Bateen Academy
  • American Community School of Abu Dhabi

Sharjah and the northern emirates

Provision thins quickly outside Dubai and Abu Dhabi, and the regulator changes with the emirate: SPEA in Sharjah, the Department of Knowledge in Ras Al Khaimah, the federal Ministry of Education in Ajman, Fujairah and Umm Al Quwain.

  • Victoria International School of Sharjah
  • Scholars International Academy
  • Ajman Academy
  • RAK Academy

Schools are named as ecosystem context for families comparing where the Diploma is taught in the UAE; no affiliation, partnership or endorsement is implied or held.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

A short call about the gap, not the rate

We start by asking what the current prediction is, which components the marks are going in, and what the university offer actually requires. That conversation usually narrows a vague request for 45-point coaching into two named components. If the answer is that nothing worth buying is available, we say so on the call.

  2. 02

    One free trial lesson

A single lesson with the proposed specialist, booked before any payment and with no package attached. For a top-band attempt the trial should use the student's own marked script rather than a generic diagnostic, so bring the last mock and the examiner comments. You decide afterwards whether the match is right.

  3. 03

A written plan with a target per component

We set out which components we are working on, how many hours a week, what the student does between sessions, and what the review point is. The plan names the components rather than the score, because components are what a tutor can influence and a final score is not something anyone can promise.

  4. 04

The weekly cycle: teach, practise under time, mark, name the error

Each session teaches a narrow thing, sets timed practice, and returns marked work against the criteria wording with the deduction named. A short written note goes out after every session so the student can re-read it. The running list of repeat errors is the document that tells you whether the money is working.

  5. 05

Review against the next mock, then decide again

After the next set of mocks we compare the marked evidence with the plan and change it, shrink it or stop it. Shrinking and stopping are normal outcomes near the top of the scale, and a provider who never recommends either is not reading the marginal-point arithmetic honestly.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Every rate on this page carries its source

AED figures here come from providers who published them and from Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 table, with the attribution next to the number. Three of the most visible pages in this market publish no price at all. You cannot judge value against a figure nobody will state.

Specialism by component, not by subject

At 43 the request is not for a Chemistry tutor but for someone who can mark a Chemistry internal assessment against the criteria or coach a specific paper technique. We match on the component, and the trial lesson is where you test whether that match is real.

Delivered online, which is why the pool is deep

Lessons are one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time. We do not arrange home visits in the UAE; home visits are a service we offer only in India. Removing the drive is what makes a Higher Level specialist available to a family in Fujairah or Al Ain at all.

A stated academic-honesty boundary

Tutors teach, question, review and give feedback on work the student has produced. They never author part of a submission or supply wording for one. The boundary is stated at the first core session, and it is a genuine difference from the providers in this market selling finished coursework.

We will tell you when to stop paying

A student predicted 44 with both core points secured has nothing cheap left to buy, and we say that rather than sell a schedule. The marginal-point table on this page is the same analysis we use internally, which is why it is published rather than kept for the sales call.

No claims we cannot evidence

IB Gram holds no KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, Ministry of Education, IB or Cambridge approval and claims none. There is no UAE centre. No score, grade or improvement is promised anywhere on this page, and any statistic we cannot produce the underlying data for is simply absent.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in the UAE: your questions answered

What does a 45 in the IB Diploma actually require?+

A seven in all six subjects, which caps out at 42, plus the full three core points awarded on the combination of the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge grades, and no failing condition triggered anywhere. That is the complete specification. It means a single six in one Higher Level subject caps the total at 44, and it means the core is worth exactly as much as three subject grades. The core-points matrix and the failing conditions are revised periodically, so confirm the current version with your child's IB coordinator or on the IB's own assessment pages rather than taking them from a tutoring site.

How much does IB score 45 coaching in the UAE cost per hour?+

Market rates for IB specialists in the UAE run AED 200-450 and above per hour, per Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 table, with TutorChase publishing AED 270 and BartyED AED 650 at the premium end. Qualified online subject tutors sit at AED 150-300, with Unitors listing IB from AED 200. Budget platforms start lower, from AED 45-65 at EdFlik and AED 33-52 at Tutopiya, but that band rarely buys criterion-level Higher Level feedback. Those are market figures, not our price list. We quote after a conversation about how many hours the point gap genuinely needs.

Which point is the cheapest one left if my child is predicted 42?+

Usually a core point. If either the Extended Essay or Theory of Knowledge still has a band in play, six to ten hours of supervision spread across months is the lowest-cost point available in the whole diploma, because the student controls the question and the timetable. A subject point from six to seven can absorb many times that number of hours with a lower conversion rate. Check the core first: look at the predicted EE and TOK grades, find out which combination your child is currently on, and only then decide whether subject hours are worth buying.

Can coaching move a predicted 41 to a 45 in the final six months?+

Nobody can promise that, and a provider who does is telling you something useful about themselves. What six months can realistically change is technique, timing and the core. A student predicted 41 with one core point available and two Higher Level components failing on specific, identifiable errors has a genuine path to 43 or 44. Closing four points in six months requires grade lifts in several subjects at once, which is a much larger claim. Ask for the marked evidence behind any projection, and plan against components rather than against a target number.

Is it better value to coach six subjects or the two weakest components?+

Two components, almost always. Six simultaneous tutors produce six sets of homework, no free evenings and less time for the timed practice that actually moves a Higher Level grade. A narrow plan also makes the spend legible: you can see whether one component improved, whereas six parallel plans make it impossible to know what the money bought. At the top of the scale the work is diagnostic rather than broad, so the question is which two components are leaking marks, not which subjects look weakest on the report.

Do UAE universities care about the difference between 42 and 45?+

For admission, usually not much. Offers are made against predicted grades and sit in bands, and a conditional offer with specified Higher Level grades does not improve because the final total is higher. Where the difference does matter is scholarship banding at several UAE institutions, which can be sensitive to the total. Subject prerequisites matter more than the total almost everywhere: the wrong mathematics route can make a 44 ineligible for a course that would have accepted 38. Find the threshold and the prerequisites before you decide whether the last points are worth buying.

What can a tutor legally and honestly help with on an Internal Assessment?+

A tutor may teach the underlying content, explain what a criterion is asking for, question the student's reasoning, read a draft the student has produced and say where it falls short, and rehearse an oral component. A tutor may not become an author of any part of the submission, supply wording, re-work a paragraph into its final form, or hand over a model for adaptation. The school supervisor signs the work off. A simple parent test: after a session, ask your child to explain the change they made and why the criterion required it. If they cannot, something went wrong.

How do we check that a UAE tutor holds the private tuition work permit?+

Ask to see it. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and is applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website or e-services system, where the service is listed as private tutor licensing with a two-working-day completion time. Individuals tutoring without one are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule is published. Ask the permit question and the marking-experience question separately: eligibility extends to university students and to school students aged fifteen to eighteen.

Does a top-band attempt need Mathematics Analysis and Approaches rather than Applications?+

It depends entirely on the destination, not on the score. Engineering, physical sciences and competitive economics courses generally specify Analysis and Approaches, often at Higher Level, and the wrong route closes those doors regardless of the total. Liberal arts, many business programmes and much of North American admission accept Applications and Interpretation. The decision is made in DP1, when nobody is thinking about admissions, which is why it is worth checking the prerequisites of three or four target courses before the choice is locked rather than after the first mock.

How do the mandatory Arabic and Islamic Education lessons affect a study plan?+

They are timetabled, assessed hours that a revision plan has to accommodate. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral studies are mandatory in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum, with KHDA requiring implementation from the start of the 2025-26 academic year. Instructional time is calculated on a forty-minute lesson unit, and separate classes are required for Arabs and non-Arabs in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies. In practice they fix how many usable evenings a DP2 week contains, which is the number a coaching plan is actually built on.

Should sessions move during Ramadan, and how?+

Usually yes. School hours shorten, the productive part of the day moves, and an afternoon slot that worked in January becomes the least useful hour of the day. The pattern that works is to shift to a post-Iftar slot, keep the weekly frequency, shorten each session, and treat one week of the month as consolidation rather than new material. Because lessons are delivered online in Gulf Standard Time, that is a scheduling change rather than a renegotiation with someone who has to travel. Agree it a few weeks in advance, because submission deadlines do not move for the calendar.

Why is this delivered online rather than by a tutor coming to our villa?+

Because specialism beats proximity at the top of the scale, and because of what travel does to both the rate and the timetable. IB Gram does not arrange home visits in the UAE; home visits are a service we offer only in India. Market rates of AED 180-500 an hour for a local visit have the drive priced in, and the available pool narrows to whoever will travel inside your window. One-to-one online tuition over live video keeps the whole specialist pool open, lets sessions sit in the student's sharpest hour, and makes screen-shared marked scripts a document the student can re-read.

What happens if no specialist is free for the component we need?+

We say so, and we tell you the honest alternatives rather than filling the slot with a generalist. Niche requirements are where this bites: Further Mathematics, Philosophy, Arabic A and some Higher Level language combinations have thin coverage inside the UAE. Where no UAE-based specialist is available at the hour your child can study, the lesson is delivered over live video by a specialist outside the UAE, and we tell you that before you book. If nothing suitable exists at all, the right answer is a short wait or a different plan, not a worse match.

Does the Extended Essay have to be in the same subject as a Higher Level choice?+

It does not have to be, and for a top-band attempt the practical considerations usually outweigh the theoretical freedom. An essay in a Higher Level subject means the student is researching inside content they are already studying, which saves reading time in the most compressed year of the diploma. An essay in a Standard Level or unfamiliar subject can produce a fresher question but costs hours a 45 attempt rarely has spare. Check your school's own guidance too, since supervisor availability by subject is often the real constraint rather than IB rules.

What should we send when asking for a quote for top-band coaching?+

Send the current predicted grades by subject and level, the most recent mock papers with the examiner or teacher comments still on them, the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge position, the university courses being targeted with their stated requirements, and the two or three hours in the week that are genuinely free. With those, a quote can name components and hours. Without them, any figure you receive is a guess dressed as a price, which is exactly how families end up paying for six subjects when two components were the problem.

Start with the gap, not with the rate

If your child is already near the top of the scale, the useful first step is not booking hours. It is working out which points are genuinely still available and what each one would cost. Bring the latest mock papers with the comments on them, the predicted grades, and the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge position. We will tell you which two components are worth working on, what the market charges for that kind of work in AED, and whether the honest answer is a short block, a weekly hour, or nothing at all. Lessons run as one-to-one online tuition over live video, in Gulf Standard Time, and the first one is a free trial with no package attached.
