IB DP Math AA HL Home Tutor in Abu Dhabi

Parents searching for an IB DP math AA HL home tutor in Abu Dhabi are usually looking at one number: a Higher Level Analysis and Approaches grade that has stopped moving. IB Gram matches your child to a specialist in that exact course and level, and lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time rather than at an address in the emirate. The first lesson is free and exists to establish which of the four assessed components is losing the marks.

  • Matched to Analysis and Approaches HL specifically, not to maths in general
  • A free first lesson that returns a written component diagnosis
  • Paper 3 treated as its own skill, because it is worth 20 per cent
  • Tutors mark and feed back; the exploration stays the student's own work

IB & IGCSE in Abu Dhabi

Why the course matters more than the postcode

A search for a Higher Level Analysis and Approaches tutor in Abu Dhabi almost always starts with a specific document: a mock script, a predicted grade sheet, or an exploration draft that came back with a comment about reflection. The course is the most algebraically demanding of the four Diploma mathematics routes, and the gap between understanding a topic and converting it into marks is wider here than anywhere else on the timetable. Students arrive at a session able to explain implicit differentiation perfectly and still unable to earn more than half the marks on a related-rates question, because the question is testing the setting-up, not the differentiating.

That gap is diagnosable. The IB allocates 240 teaching hours to this course against 150 for Standard Level, and the ninety-hour difference is not spread evenly. It sits in proof by induction, complex numbers in polar and Euler form, vector geometry in three dimensions, integration by substitution and by parts, differential equations, and Maclaurin series. A Higher Level candidate who is struggling is usually struggling inside that extra ninety hours, and the first job of a tutor is to establish which part of it, because the remedy for a topic gap, a technique error and a timing problem are three completely different plans.

The second job is to separate the papers. Paper 1 is two hours with no calculator and rewards exact values, clean algebraic manipulation and visible method. Paper 2 is two hours with a graphic display calculator and rewards knowing which function answers the question while still writing enough to earn the method marks. Paper 3 is one hour, 55 marks, two long problem-solving questions, and it rewards a skill the other two never test: following an unfamiliar line of reasoning for twenty-five minutes without abandoning it. A student can be secure in the content and lose a grade entirely on that third paper.

Delivery is where this page has to be plain. IB Gram does not send a tutor to an address in the UAE: home visits in Abu Dhabi are not something we sell, and that service exists only in India. For Higher Level Analysis specifically, that constraint turns out to be an advantage. An in-home maths tutor in Abu Dhabi is selected from the people willing to drive to your community on a Tuesday at five, and the number of those people who can teach de Moivre's theorem and mark a Paper 3 script is small. Online, your child is matched from the whole available pool of Higher Level Analysis teachers, and the thirty minutes a tutor would have spent on Khalifa City traffic is spent on maths instead.

Everything below is written to be used. It sets out what the in-home market charges in Abu Dhabi and who publishes those figures, how the 240 hours are distributed across the five topic areas, what each of the four components is worth and what it rewards, the places Higher Level candidates predictably leak marks, how the twenty exploration marks are allocated across five criterion letters, and what ADEK's position means for who may legally tutor your child. Where a number belongs to a source, the source is named. Where a date belongs to the IB, the page tells you to confirm it with your child's Diploma coordinator rather than trust a figure on a tutoring site.

At a glance

  • The unit of hire is one course at one level: AA HL, not maths
  • Paper 3 is 20 per cent of the grade and needs its own preparation
  • The exploration is marked out of 20 across five criterion letters
  • AED figures here are published market rates with their source named
  • Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Abu Dhabi schools run the IB continuum, and Higher Level Analysis sits at the end of it. These are the programmes that decide whether a student is ready for this course, and what each one changes about how support is organised.

DPAges 16-19 · DP1 and DP2

Diploma Programme

Six subjects with three normally at Higher Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS. Mathematics Analysis and Approaches HL is one of the heaviest Higher Level choices available, with 240 teaching hours, three examination papers and an internally assessed exploration. Grades are a conversion of component marks, so a candidate's problem is always located in a component rather than in the subject as a whole.

Abu Dhabi Diploma cohorts are often small by international standards, and a Higher Level Analysis set of four or five students is common at schools on the island and in the Khalifa City corridor. A small set means the teacher cannot slow down for one student without stalling the others, which is precisely the situation one-to-one support is for. ADEK licenses and inspects these schools and publishes its own inspection outcomes.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP 1-5

Middle Years Programme

Eight subject groups marked against four criteria each on a 1-8 scale, with no external papers before the optional MYP 5 eAssessment. MYP mathematics is where the Analysis and Approaches decision is really made: a student who has been placed in extended mathematics and is comfortable with algebraic proof has the profile this course expects, and one who has not usually does better on the Applications route.

In Abu Dhabi the option form for DP1 often lands before the MYP 5 results do, which means the Higher Level Analysis decision is taken on a teacher recommendation rather than on a mark. Families on Al Reem Island and in Al Raha Gardens frequently ask for a short block of sessions in MYP 5 purely to find out whether the Higher Level route is realistic before the form is signed.

CPAges 16-19

Career-related Programme

Two or more Diploma courses taken alongside a career-related study, a reflective project and a personal and professional skills course. A student on this programme still sits the same Diploma mathematics papers for any mathematics course they take, so the assessment detail on this page applies unchanged.

Abu Dhabi families usually meet this programme when a student is strong in two subjects and sinking in six. Any move from the full Diploma to courses, or from Higher to Standard Level mathematics, belongs with the school's Diploma coordinator first. A tutor's useful contribution is an honest view of whether the Higher Level mathematics grade is recoverable in the weeks that remain.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Higher Level Analysis rarely travels alone. These are the Diploma subjects Abu Dhabi students most often take alongside it, described by the mathematics each one actually demands, because a weak Higher Level maths grade usually shows up in two subjects at once.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL

Algebra, functions, trigonometry and vectors, statistics and calculus, assessed across two long papers, a one-hour extended-response paper and a 20-mark exploration. Marks leak on exact values in the non-calculator paper, on method that is thought but not written, and on explorations that compute accurately and never explain the choice of mathematics.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

SL

The same five topic areas over 150 hours, two 90-minute papers of 80 marks each at 40 per cent apiece, and no Paper 3. Students who step down from Higher Level in DP1 keep the exploration and lose the hardest calculus and the complex-number work, which is why the timing of that decision matters more than the decision itself.

Physics

HL and SL

Fields, circular motion and induction all assume calculus fluency the physics course does not teach. Abu Dhabi students taking Physics HL with Analysis HL frequently find that a single weakness in differentiation shows up as two sinking grades, and fixing it in the maths session repairs both.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Equilibrium, kinetics and energetics lean on logarithms, rates of change and graphical gradients. The marks are rarely lost on chemistry; they are lost on rearranging an expression under time pressure, which is a mathematics habit rather than a chemistry one.

Economics

HL and SL

Higher Level Economics adds calculation-heavy questions on elasticity, revenue and market outcomes. Analysis HL students are usually comfortable here, but the discipline of writing an interpretation after the number is a different skill from getting the number, and it is where the marks sit.

Computer Science

HL and SL

Abstract data structures, recursion and complexity reasoning reward the same formal thinking as proof by induction. Students who find induction uncomfortable in mathematics usually find recursion uncomfortable here, and the two respond to the same kind of practice.

Business Management

HL and SL

Investment appraisal, break-even and ratio analysis are arithmetic rather than Higher Level mathematics, but the internal assessment asks for a defensible quantitative argument. Analysis HL students often overcomplicate it; the mark scheme rewards clarity.

Theory of Knowledge

Core

Mathematics is one of the areas of knowledge, and Higher Level Analysis students have unusually good material for it: proof, axioms and the question of whether mathematical truth is discovered or constructed. A maths tutor can supply the examples; the essay itself must be the student's own.

Extended Essay in Mathematics

Core

A 4,000-word independent investigation that a small number of Analysis HL students choose. It is a different task from the exploration, with a different supervisor and a different set of criteria, and the common failure is a research question that is too broad to resolve mathematically.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

The other route, built on modelling, statistics and technology rather than proof. It is not an easier course; it is a different one, and a student who moves across in DP1 trades algebraic manipulation for matrices, graph theory and statistical testing.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three shapes of support cover nearly every Higher Level Analysis request that reaches us from Abu Dhabi. All three run one-to-one over live video, and what separates them is rhythm rather than medium.

Weekly Higher Level hour

One fixed hour a week with the same tutor through DP1 and DP2. This is the format that moves a Higher Level grade, because it allows work to be set, attempted, marked and revisited on a predictable cycle, and because it gives the tutor a picture of how your child behaves under time pressure rather than under conversation.

  • Same tutor, same slot, same course for the whole term
  • Work set at the end of each session and marked before the next
  • A short written note after every session naming what moved
  • Scheduled in Gulf Standard Time around the Abu Dhabi school run

Paper 3 block

A short dense series of sessions on the one-hour extended-response paper, usually run in DP2 once the content is mostly covered. Two long unfamiliar questions in sixty minutes is a stamina and structure problem as much as a mathematics one, and it responds to deliberate practice far faster than the content does.

  • Timed conditions from the first session, not the last
  • One question type tracked across several past papers
  • Marked against the published mark scheme, not a percentage
  • Explicit coaching on what to do when the first idea fails

Exploration supervision

Sessions timed around the school's own internal deadlines, focused on the five criterion letters that carry the twenty marks. The tutor reads what the student has written, explains which criterion the marks are sitting against, and sets the next revision for the student to carry out. No part of the submitted document is produced by a tutor.

  • Research question narrowed before any mathematics is attempted
  • Criterion-by-criterion feedback on the student's own draft
  • Built around the school's draft deadlines rather than ours
  • A clear record of what feedback was given and when

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Abu Dhabi

What a home tutor search for Higher Level Analysis actually buys in Abu Dhabi

  • In-home band in the UAE market: AED 180-350, reaching 500 at the specialist end
  • IB specialist band: AED 200-450 per hour (Bestimate; TutorChase publishes AED 270)
  • Delivery here is one-to-one over live video, never a visit to a UAE address
  • A teacher tutoring their own enrolled student is not a route to plan around

A home tutor for Mathematics Analysis and Approaches HL in Abu Dhabi is, in the local market, a tutor who travels to your community and teaches at your table. Published rates for that service run roughly AED 180 to 350 an hour according to Bestimate's Dubai tutoring rate table, and listings for in-home one-to-one work in the UAE reach AED 500 at the specialist end. The travel is inside the hour you are paying for, whether or not it is itemised, and in Abu Dhabi the distance between a tutor living on the island and a student in Al Shamkha is a real constraint on who will take the booking at all.

IB Gram does not operate that way. We do not send a tutor to a UAE address: home visits in Abu Dhabi are not part of what we sell, and that service exists only in India. Lessons here are one-to-one over live video, with the same tutor in the same slot each week and the work marked between sessions. The honest case for it is not that video is nicer than a kitchen table. It is that the binding constraint on in-home tutoring is geography, and the binding constraint on a Higher Level Analysis grade is whether the person teaching it has marked Paper 3 scripts before.

Those two constraints pull against each other. The pool of people in Abu Dhabi who will drive to Mohammed Bin Zayed City on a Tuesday evening is one set; the pool who can teach complex numbers in Euler form, Maclaurin series and vector geometry in three dimensions is another; and the overlap is thin. Online, the second pool is the only one that matters. The table below puts the options side by side with the figures their own publishers quote, so the comparison is on evidence rather than on assertion.

One option that often appears in these conversations should be ruled out early. Abu Dhabi families sometimes ask whether their child's own school mathematics teacher can tutor privately. Press reporting on ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff says that paid private tutoring of students enrolled at the teacher's own school is prohibited, and that staff tutoring outside school hours must hold the MoHRE private tuition work permit, whose code of conduct bars serving students affiliated with their own school. Verify the current wording against ADEK's own policy document before relying on it, but do not build a plan around that route.

Where the 240 hours go, and what Standard Level never sees

The IB subject guide allocates 150 teaching hours to Analysis and Approaches at Standard Level and 240 at Higher Level, with roughly thirty of those hours in both courses given to the toolkit and the exploration. The ninety-hour difference is the whole of the Higher Level problem, and it is distributed unevenly: calculus and geometry absorb most of it, while statistics grows by only a few hours. A parent who knows that distribution can read a report differently, because a student who is behind in calculus is behind in the largest block of the course.

The content in that extra ninety hours is not harder versions of Standard Level topics. Much of it is new mathematics with no Standard Level ancestor at all. Proof by induction is a form of argument rather than a calculation. Complex numbers in polar and Euler form, and de Moivre's theorem with them, require a student to hold a geometric picture and an algebraic one at the same time. Vector equations of lines and planes move the geometry into three dimensions, where a sketch stops helping. Differential equations, Euler's method and Maclaurin series arrive late, in DP2, when the exploration deadline is also live.

This is why a diagnosis beats a package. Two Higher Level students on the same predicted grade can have entirely different problems: one has never understood what an induction proof is supposed to establish, the other understands all of it and cannot finish a paper. The first needs teaching, the second needs timed practice and a different habit, and buying ten hours without knowing which is which wastes most of them. The table sets out the published hours by topic area alongside the Higher Level content and the failure that usually shows up first.

Confirm the hour allocations and topic lists against your child's own copy of the current subject guide, which the school issues. The IB revises its guides, and a tutoring page is not the right place to take a syllabus from. What is stable enough to plan around is the shape: a Higher Level course with most of its extra weight in calculus and three-dimensional geometry, a non-calculator paper that punishes weak algebra, and an extended-response paper that nobody at Standard Level sits.

Four components, and what each one is actually rewarding

  • Paper 1: 2 hours, 110 marks, 30 per cent, no calculator
  • Paper 2: 2 hours, 110 marks, 30 per cent, graphic display calculator
  • Paper 3: 1 hour, 55 marks, 20 per cent, Higher Level only
  • Exploration: 20 marks, 20 per cent, internally assessed and moderated

Higher Level Analysis is assessed across four components, and each rewards a different behaviour. Paper 1 runs for two hours over 110 marks with no calculator and carries 30 per cent. It rewards exact values, surds and logarithms handled by hand, and method written down line by line. Students who revise by checking answers on a calculator tend to discover in Paper 1 that they have been rehearsing the wrong skill for a year.

Paper 2 is the same length and the same mark total at the same weighting, with a graphic display calculator allowed throughout. The error here is the mirror image: a student solves the problem entirely on the calculator, writes the answer, and collects none of the method marks. A well-prepared candidate uses the technology to get the result and still writes the steps that earn the marks, which is a habit a tutor can install in a handful of sessions.

Paper 3 is one hour, 55 marks, 20 per cent, and two long problem-solving questions that develop an unfamiliar idea in stages. It is sat only by Higher Level candidates, and it is the component Abu Dhabi students most often tell us they ran out of time on. The skill it tests is persistence with structure: reading part (a) properly because part (f) depends on it, and recovering when an early idea fails rather than starting again. That is trainable, and it is trained with timed papers and a mark scheme, not with more content.

The fourth component is the mathematical exploration, 20 marks and 20 per cent, written over several weeks against internal school deadlines. It is the only component where the student chooses the mathematics, and the only one where a tutor's role has a hard boundary. Taken together, the four mean something practical: a student can be fluent in the course and still lose a grade to Paper 3 timing, or secure in the papers and lose it to an exploration that reflects on nothing.

Where Higher Level candidates leak marks, in the order it costs them

  • Non-calculator algebra is the most expensive single weakness at Higher Level
  • Unwritten method on Paper 2 is the cheapest weakness to repair
  • Paper 3 is lost to timing and abandonment more often than to content
  • Induction, three-dimensional vectors and conditional probability recur in that order

The most expensive leak is Paper 1 algebra. A student who reaches for a calculator during revision and then faces two hours without one loses marks on surds, exact trigonometric values, logarithm manipulation and anything requiring an answer in a specified form. The marks do not vanish on hard questions; they vanish in ones and twos across easy ones, which is why the mock score looks inexplicable to a parent who knows the child understands the topic.

The second is method marks on Paper 2. Mark schemes award for stated approach, substitution and intermediate results. A candidate who types the integral into the calculator and writes one line has forfeited most of the available credit even with a correct answer. This is the single cheapest thing to fix in a Higher Level plan, because it is a writing habit rather than a mathematical gap, and it usually takes three or four marked scripts before it sticks.

The third is Paper 3 structure. Candidates abandon a question when part (c) fails, when the mark scheme would have given them parts (d) and (e) from a stated assumption. Others spend thirty-five of their sixty minutes on the first question and never read the second. Both are fixable with timed practice against the published scheme, and both are nearly impossible to fix in the last fortnight.

After those come the predictable topic failures. Induction proofs that assert rather than argue. Vector problems in three dimensions solved as if the objects were flat. Conditional probability read as joint probability. Integration by a method chosen out of habit. Explorations that calculate correctly and never say why that mathematics was the right tool. Every one of these is diagnosable from a marked script, which is why the first session asks for the last piece of marked work rather than for a description of the problem.

05

What one session changes, and what needs a term

  • One session: rounding, method marks, paper structure, calculator discipline
  • Four to six sessions: a missed or rushed topic, retested after a fortnight
  • A term or more: missing Standard Level foundations under a Higher Level course
  • Free first lesson returns a written note, not a quote

Some Higher Level problems are genuinely one-session problems. A student who does not know that method marks exist, or who has never seen how a Paper 3 question is structured, or who is rounding during a calculation rather than at the end, can be corrected in an hour and will hold the correction. These are process errors, and they are over-represented among students whose teachers describe them as careless. Careless is almost never the diagnosis; an unexamined habit usually is.

Others are four- to six-session problems. A topic that was taught in a week the student was away, or covered at speed because the set had to move on, needs teaching and then testing: explanation, worked examples, independent practice, a marked attempt, and a second marked attempt a fortnight later to check it held. Calculus technique, vector geometry and complex numbers all sit in this band for a student who has the rest of the course.

A smaller group are term-length problems, and the honest thing is to say so before taking the booking. A DP2 student who has not secured the Standard Level algebra underneath the Higher Level course is not going to acquire it and the Higher Level extension in six weeks, and a plan that pretends otherwise wastes a family's money and the student's remaining time. In that situation the useful conversation is often with the school's Diploma coordinator about level, not with a tutor about hours.

The free first lesson exists to put a booking into one of those three bands. The tutor reads the most recent marked work, asks the student to attempt something under time, and sends a written note naming the leaking component and the realistic shape of the fix. If the note says this belongs with the school rather than with us, it says that plainly. A diagnosis that costs nothing and redirects you correctly is worth more than ten hours aimed at the wrong component.

06

The exploration: twenty marks, five letters, and the line a tutor will not cross

The mathematical exploration is internally assessed, moderated by the IB and worth 20 per cent of the Higher Level grade. It is marked out of 20 across five criteria identified by letter, and the allocation surprises most families: presentation and communication carry four marks each, personal engagement and reflection three each, and the mathematics itself six. A Higher Level student who writes twelve pages of impressive analysis and never reflects on it has capped the grade in a way no amount of extra mathematics can lift.

That allocation changes what support should look like. The most valuable session happens before any mathematics is attempted, when the research question is still negotiable, because almost every low-scoring exploration can be traced to a question that was too broad, too standard, or impossible to engage with personally. A tutor who reads a finished draft can improve the presentation marks. A tutor who is in the conversation at week one can change which criteria are reachable at all.

The boundary is firm and it is in the student's interest, not ours. A tutor explains what a criterion is asking, points at the place in the draft where the marks are being lost, teaches the mathematics the student has chosen to use, and sets the next revision for the student to carry out. Nothing in the submitted document originates with the tutor, and no tutor rewrites a passage into its final form. One page competing for this search sells finished Internal Assessments outright; the consequences of that land on the candidate, as malpractice, not on the seller.

Practically, that means keeping a record. Students should be able to show their supervisor what feedback they received and what they then changed, and schools increasingly ask. Session notes from a tutor are useful evidence that the work is the student's own, which is a reason to prefer feedback in writing over feedback given verbally and forgotten.

ADEK, option blocks and the four-student Higher Level set

  • ADEK licenses and inspects Abu Dhabi private schools and publishes the ratings
  • The school, not the regulator, decides which maths sets are timetabled
  • A Higher Level set of four or five cannot slow down for one student
  • The MoHRE private tuition permit is free of charge and valid for two years

Abu Dhabi private schools are licensed and inspected by the Department of Education and Knowledge. The u.ae government portal states that ADEK supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in the emirate, and ADEK publishes its own inspection outcomes, which is the place to read a school's rating rather than a tutoring site. What ADEK does not do is decide which Diploma mathematics courses an individual school offers; that is a timetabling and staffing decision made by the school.

The practical consequence for Higher Level Analysis is set size. Abu Dhabi Diploma cohorts are small compared with the large British-curriculum rolls in the same city, and it is common for a school to run one Higher Level Analysis set of four or five students, timetabled against another Higher Level subject. That has two effects. The set cannot slow down for one student without stalling the others, and a student who needs to move between mathematics routes may find the timetable, rather than the mathematics, is what prevents it.

It also means the option form matters more here than families expect. The decision between Analysis and Applications, and between Higher and Standard Level, is frequently taken in MYP 5 or Year 11 before any Diploma marking has happened, on a teacher recommendation. Where a school runs only one of the two routes at Higher Level, the choice has effectively been made for the student by the timetable. Asking the Diploma coordinator which sets will actually run, and how many students are in each, is a better use of a meeting than asking about results.

For families weighing a private tutor against the school's own staff, note the regulatory position. Private tuition in the UAE is permitted by a MoHRE work permit introduced under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, granted free of charge for two years, with eligible applicants including registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Individuals tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule is published, so treat any specific figure you are quoted with suspicion.

08

If no Higher Level Analysis specialist is free at your hour

  • Coverage limits are stated at enquiry, not discovered in week five
  • A weekend morning slot often suits Paper 3 better than a weekday evening
  • Ramadan timings are a reschedule, not a disruption, when lessons are online
  • We will say when a Higher Level booking should not be taken at all

Higher Level Analysis is a narrow specialism, and the hours Abu Dhabi families want are narrow too: most requests land between 5pm and 8pm Gulf Standard Time on weekdays. Those two facts collide, particularly in the weeks around mocks when every Diploma family in the Gulf is looking for the same slot. No competitor in this market publishes what happens then, which is why families discover the answer in week five rather than week one.

Our position is to say it before you commit. If no Higher Level Analysis teacher is available at the hour you need, we tell you at the point of enquiry and give you the real options: a different hour with the specialist you want, the same hour with a tutor who covers the Standard Level content while a Higher Level slot opens, a weekend block instead of a weekday hour, or a recommendation to wait. What we do not do is put a general maths tutor into a Higher Level booking and let you find out in a month.

There is a version of this that works well, and Abu Dhabi families use it often. A weekend morning in Gulf Standard Time is lightly booked and suits a Paper 3 block better than a weekday evening does, because sixty minutes of unfamiliar problem-solving after a full school day and a commute from the island is not where a student's best work lives. Several families deliberately move their Higher Level hour to a Saturday morning in DP2 for exactly that reason.

Session timing also moves with the calendar. Through Ramadan many Abu Dhabi households shift academic work to a later evening slot after Iftar, and because lessons run over video rather than requiring anyone to travel, moving a weekly hour by two or three hours is a scheduling change rather than a logistics problem. Mock weeks, school trips and travel between terms are handled the same way: the slot moves, the tutor does not.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across Abu Dhabi

Where a family lives in Abu Dhabi does not change which Higher Level Analysis specialist is available to them online, but it does decide which school the student attends, which maths set they sit in, and the earliest hour a session can realistically start.

Khalifa City

A large villa community feeding Al Yasmina Academy and GEMS American Academy Abu Dhabi. Students arriving at Higher Level Analysis from an American middle-school track meet formal algebraic proof for the first time in DP1, and induction is usually the first casualty.

Al Raha Beach and Al Raha Gardens

Raha International School runs the full continuum nearby, so Higher Level Analysis candidates here have often been criterion-marked since the Primary Years. The requests from this corridor lean towards Paper 3 technique rather than marking language.

Saadiyat Island

Cranleigh Abu Dhabi and a population frequently on two- to four-year postings. The recurring question here is whether a part-finished Higher Level Analysis course transfers cleanly to a school in another country, and what the exploration deadline looks like after a move.

Al Reem Island

Repton School Abu Dhabi and a dense tower population. Bridge traffic off the island decides when a student is actually at a desk, so Higher Level sessions here tend to start at 6pm or later and run through to the mock window.

Al Bateen and Al Khalidiyah

The older island streets, with Al Bateen Academy and the American Community School of Abu Dhabi close by. Short commutes make a 4.30pm Higher Level slot realistic, which matters in the autumn of DP2 when both daylight and energy run short.

Yas Island and West Yas

Newer residential capacity with small sixth-form cohorts. A student taking Higher Level Analysis may be one of three or four in the year, and parts of the course are effectively covered at speed because the set cannot afford to slow down.

Mohammed Bin Zayed City and Shakhbout City

Dense mainland communities with a long commute to the island schools. A session before 5.30pm is often unrealistic here, and these are the families most likely to ask for a weekend Paper 3 block instead of a weekday hour.

Al Shamkha and Al Falah

Growing family areas further out, where the travel cost of an in-home tutor is highest and the local specialist pool thinnest. Online matching removes the drive at both ends, which is why Higher Level requests from here are almost all for video sessions.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Abu Dhabi

The island and Saadiyat

Abu Dhabi's established schools and the newer Saadiyat campuses. Some run the Diploma, others run A-Levels or an American diploma with Advanced Placement, which is worth knowing before comparing your child's Higher Level mathematics workload to a neighbour's.

  • The British School Al Khubairat
  • American Community School of Abu Dhabi
  • Repton School Abu Dhabi
  • Abu Dhabi International School

Khalifa City, Al Raha and Yas

The corridor holding most of Abu Dhabi's newer international capacity. Raha International School runs the Primary Years, Middle Years and Diploma programmes; several others in this cluster run British or American routes, so a Diploma mathematics student may be travelling across the city to reach an IB cohort.

Schools are named here only as context for where Abu Dhabi Diploma mathematics students study. No affiliation, endorsement or partnership with any named school or group is implied, and inspection outcomes should be read on ADEK's own published listings.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Say the course, the level and the component

Not 'maths help' but 'Analysis and Approaches HL, Paper 1 came back at 42 per cent and the exploration has no research question yet'. That sentence decides which specialist you are matched with. Attach the most recent marked script if you have one; it is worth more than any description of the problem.

  2. 02

Take the free first lesson as a diagnosis

The tutor reads the marked work, asks your child to attempt something under time, and establishes whether the issue is content, technique or process. You receive a written note naming the leaking component and the realistic shape of the fix, including the case where the answer is that this belongs with the school.

  3. 03

Fix the rhythm and set a review date

A fixed weekly hour in Gulf Standard Time, work set at the end of each session and marked before the next, and an agreed point four to six weeks out at which you look at evidence. Setting that review date at the start matters more than negotiating the rate.

  4. 04

Read the marked scripts, not the atmosphere

At the review, ask for the marked work rather than for an impression. Per-question marks, method marks earned on Paper 2 questions, and the time taken to complete a timed section are the signals that move first. A tutor who cannot show you a changed mark after six weeks has not given you anything checkable.

  5. 05

Change the plan when the evidence says to

Sometimes the scripts say the mathematics is fine and a different subject is the problem. Sometimes they say Higher Level is not realistic and the conversation belongs with the Diploma coordinator. Both are useful findings, and both beat renewing a plan because it has become routine.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Matched on the course, not on driving distance

An in-home tutor in Abu Dhabi is chosen from the people willing to travel to your community at the hour you need. Online, the pool is every available Higher Level Analysis teacher. For a course with Paper 3 in it, that difference in expertise is larger than any difference the room makes.

The delivery model is stated, not implied

Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not visit UAE addresses; home visits are a service we run only in India. Pages ranking for this search route UAE parents to overseas phone numbers without ever saying where the tutor sits.

Every AED figure belongs to its source

Market bands on this page are attributed to the rate table or company that published them, with the month they were read. We do not present a market band as our own price list, and we do not publish a number we cannot point at a source for.

The academic-honesty boundary is written down

Tutors teach, mark and give feedback on the student's own work, and nothing in a submitted exploration originates with a tutor. That line is on the page because a competing site sells completed Internal Assessments, and the malpractice consequence falls on the candidate rather than the seller.

Coverage limits are disclosed up front

If no Higher Level Analysis specialist is free at the hours you need, we say so at enquiry and name the alternatives. Nobody else in this market publishes a coverage limit, which is why families usually meet one after they have already paid.

Regulatory facts are cited rather than asserted

ADEK licenses Abu Dhabi private schools; the MoHRE private tuition permit is free of charge for two years under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. IB Gram holds no regulator or board accreditation and claims none, and the official sources are linked so you can read them yourself.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Abu Dhabi: your questions answered

We are in Al Raha Gardens — is in-home Higher Level maths tuition available from IB Gram?+

No. IB Gram does not send a tutor to any UAE address, and home visits in Abu Dhabi are not a service we sell; that option exists only in India. Higher Level Analysis lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, with the same tutor each week and work marked between sessions. For this course that is the stronger arrangement, because an in-home booking in Al Raha Gardens is filled from the people willing to drive there at five o'clock, and very few of them have marked a Paper 3 script. Online, your child is matched from every available Higher Level Analysis teacher.

What does the Abu Dhabi market charge for Higher Level Analysis, and why is it dearer than Standard Level?+

Published UAE market rates put qualified online subject tutoring at roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour, IB and A-Level specialists at AED 200 to 450, and in-home one-to-one work at AED 180 to 350, reaching about 500 at the specialist end. TutorChase publishes AED 270. Higher Level Analysis sits at the upper end of those bands for two reasons: the course carries 240 teaching hours against 150 at Standard Level, and Paper 3 narrows the pool of people who can teach it credibly. Those figures are the market's, not our price list. Ask about the free first lesson before discussing hours.

What is in Paper 3, and can it be prepared for on its own?+

Paper 3 is a one-hour, 55-mark paper worth 20 per cent of the Higher Level grade, sat only by Higher Level candidates. It contains two long problem-solving questions that develop an unfamiliar idea in stages, so part (f) usually depends on having read part (a) properly. It can absolutely be prepared for separately, and it often should be, because the skill it tests is persistence with structure rather than additional content. A short block of timed papers marked against the published scheme moves it faster than more topic teaching does, provided the content is broadly in place first.

My son understands the calculus but keeps underperforming on Paper 1. What is going wrong?+

Almost always the revision method. If a student practises with a graphic display calculator to hand, they rehearse recognising answers rather than producing them, and then meet two hours with no calculator in Paper 1. The marks are lost in ones and twos across straightforward questions: surds left unsimplified, exact trigonometric values half-remembered, logarithm rules applied in the wrong order, answers not given in the required form. The fix is unglamorous and quick: timed non-calculator sections every week, marked, with the recurring error named rather than corrected silently. Three or four marked scripts usually change the pattern.

Which Higher Level Analysis topics have no Standard Level equivalent at all?+

Several, which is why stepping between levels is not simply a change of difficulty. Proof by induction is Higher Level only and is a form of argument rather than a calculation. Complex numbers in Cartesian, polar and Euler form, with de Moivre's theorem, appear only at Higher Level. So do vector equations of lines and planes with scalar and vector products, Maclaurin series, L'Hopital's rule, integration by substitution and by parts, volumes of revolution, differential equations with Euler's method, and Bayes' theorem. Confirm the current lists against your child's own copy of the subject guide, which the school issues and the IB periodically revises.

How many teaching hours does the IB give to this course, and why does that number matter to us?+

The subject guide allocates 240 hours to Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level and 150 at Standard Level, with around thirty hours in both courses for the toolkit and the exploration. The number matters because the extra ninety hours are not spread evenly. Calculus grows from roughly 28 hours to 55 and geometry and trigonometry from 25 to 51, while statistics grows by only a handful. So a report saying your child is behind in calculus is a report about the largest block of the course, and a report about statistics is a much smaller problem than it sounds.

Our Abu Dhabi school runs one Higher Level Analysis set of five students. Is that a disadvantage?+

It cuts both ways. A set of five gives more teacher attention per student than a class of twenty-five, which is genuinely valuable. The difficulty is that a small set cannot slow down for one student without stalling the rest, and it is usually timetabled against another Higher Level subject, so moving between mathematics routes may be blocked by the timetable rather than by the mathematics. Ask the Diploma coordinator which sets will actually run next year and how many students are in each. That answer shapes the option form more than any results table will.

How is the exploration marked, and what may a tutor legitimately do with it?+

It is marked out of 20 across five criteria: presentation and mathematical communication at four marks each, personal engagement and reflection at three each, and use of mathematics at six. A tutor may explain what a criterion asks, teach the mathematics the student has chosen, read a draft and say where marks are being lost, and set a revision for the student to carry out. A tutor may not supply text, rewrite a passage into its final form, or contribute any part of the submitted document. Keep the written feedback: it evidences that the work is the student's own.

Can my daughter move from Higher Level Analysis to Standard Level during DP2, and what does she lose?+

Schools do allow it, but the window is real and it narrows fast, because the school has to timetable her into a Standard Level set that may already be full and the IB registration has to be amended. The content she loses is the Higher Level extension: induction, complex numbers, three-dimensional vectors, the harder calculus and Paper 3. The exploration carries across. The decision belongs with the Diploma coordinator rather than with a tutor, and the useful contribution a tutor can make is an honest view of whether the Higher Level grade is still reachable in the time left.

Does Abu Dhabi's school regulator decide which mathematics courses a school can offer?+

No. The Department of Education and Knowledge licenses and inspects private schools in Abu Dhabi and publishes its own inspection outcomes, and the u.ae government portal describes ADEK as supervising the licensing and accreditation of private schools in the emirate. Which Diploma mathematics courses are timetabled at which level is a staffing and timetabling decision taken by the individual school. That is why two ADEK-inspected schools a few kilometres apart in Khalifa City can offer entirely different mathematics options, and why the question belongs to the Diploma coordinator.

Can my child's own school mathematics teacher tutor them privately in the evenings?+

Press reporting on ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff says that paid private tutoring of students enrolled at the teacher's own school is prohibited, and that staff tutoring outside school hours must hold the MoHRE private tuition work permit, whose code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with their own school. Verify the current wording against ADEK's published policy before acting on it. Either way, it is not a route to build a plan around, and a teacher who offers it is taking a risk that ultimately sits with your child's school.

Does a private mathematics tutor working with an Abu Dhabi family need a government permit?+

Yes. Private tuition in the UAE is regulated through a MoHRE work permit introduced under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. The permit is granted free of charge for two years, and eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students, and school students aged 15 to 18. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule has been published, so be sceptical of any specific amount you are quoted as fact.

There are ten weeks until the papers and my child is sitting on a 4 at Higher Level. Is it worth starting?+

It depends entirely on what the 4 is made of, which is why the first lesson is a diagnosis rather than a sales call. If the content is broadly in place and the marks are going on unwritten method, non-calculator algebra and Paper 3 timing, ten weeks is enough to change the picture, because those are habits. If the Standard Level algebra underneath the course was never secure, ten weeks will not deliver both that and the Higher Level extension, and we will say so. An honest no is cheaper than ten hours aimed at the wrong component.

Will a weekly Higher Level maths slot survive Ramadan and the Abu Dhabi school calendar?+

Yes, with a timing change. Many Abu Dhabi households move academic work to a later evening slot after Iftar during Ramadan, and because lessons run over live video rather than requiring anyone to travel, shifting a weekly hour by two or three hours is a calendar adjustment rather than a logistical one. The same applies to mock weeks, school trips and travel between terms: the slot moves and the tutor stays the same, which matters for a course where the tutor's picture of how your child works is part of what you are paying for.

What happens if no Higher Level Analysis specialist is free at 6pm Gulf Standard Time?+

We tell you at the enquiry rather than after you have paid. Most Abu Dhabi families want a slot between 5pm and 8pm on weekdays, and around mock season those hours fill. The options we put in front of you are a different hour with the specialist you want, a weekend morning block, or waiting for a slot to open. A weekend morning often suits Paper 3 better anyway, because an hour of unfamiliar problem-solving after a school day and a commute off the island is not where a student's best work happens.

Start with the script, not with a package of hours

The useful first step is not deciding how many Higher Level hours to buy. It is finding out which of the four components is losing the marks, because the answer changes everything: a method-mark habit is three sessions, a missed calculus topic is six, and a missing Standard Level foundation under a Higher Level course is a conversation about level rather than about tutoring. Send us the course, the level and the last marked script, and attach the exploration draft if there is one. The first lesson is free and ends with a written note naming the leak and the realistic shape of the fix. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, and if no Higher Level Analysis specialist is free at your hours, we will tell you before you commit rather than after.
