IGCSE Home Tutor in Khor Fakkan

Before you book an IGCSE home tutor in Khor Fakkan, find out which board your child's school actually uses. Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel teach overlapping content through different paper structures, different codes and different tiering rules, and a tutor working from the wrong one wastes the hour. This page sets the two boards side by side, then explains how lessons here are delivered live online rather than by a visit.

  • Both boards covered: Cambridge syllabus codes and Pearson paper codes
  • Lessons delivered live online, one to one, with the paper on screen
  • Tier and entry decisions explained before any teaching is bought

IB & IGCSE in Khor Fakkan

Which board, which code, which tier

Almost every wasted hour of IGCSE tutoring traces back to one of three unanswered questions: which board, which syllabus code, which tier. A family in Khor Fakkan buys a popular revision guide, a tutor works through a past paper that looks right, and nobody notices for a month that the school entered the student for a different board with a different paper structure. This is not a rare mistake. It is the normal one.

The two boards that matter here are Cambridge International and Pearson Edexcel. Cambridge runs its IGCSE and O Level examinations in a June series and a November series, with Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests in March, May and October. Pearson's International GCSE runs in a May/June window and in November. The content overlaps heavily. The papers do not: numbers of components differ, the balance between structured and extended answers differs, and the code on the front of the paper is the only reliable guide to what will be asked.

Cambridge adds a wrinkle that catches schools rather than families. Every centre is allocated to one of six administrative zones, and Cambridge states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, warning that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an examination after using the wrong zone timetable. If your child's exams officer cannot tell you the zone, that is worth pursuing before anything else on this page.

Tiering is the third decision and the one with teeth. Many Cambridge subjects are entered at Core or Extended. A Core entry caps the grades available; an Extended entry opens the top of the scale and asks for more content. The tier goes on the entry form months before the examination, and a student entered at Core cannot reach a top grade however well they are taught. Settle it in writing with the school early, because no amount of tutoring works around it.

On delivery, the position is plain. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE. Home visits are a service offered only in India. Khor Fakkan lessons are one to one over live video, with the past paper or marked script on a shared screen and a recording kept. "Home tutor" is the search phrase and this page uses it, but nobody is driving the coast road to your address.

What follows is the board comparison in detail, a code map for the subjects families here ask about, how private and school entries differ, what the resit route looks like, where the marks actually go, and what tutoring costs in dirhams on this coast. If you read only one part, read the tier section, because it is the decision that bounds everything a tutor can achieve for your child this year.

Four routes cover the Khor Fakkan enquiries we receive. Each is described by what the board does differently, because that difference is what a tutor has to work with.

CAIEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge IGCSE

Examined in a June series and a November series. Many subjects are tiered between Core and Extended, with separate paper sets and different grade ceilings. Science subjects carry either a practical examination or an alternative-to-practical written paper, decided by the centre. Syllabus codes are four digits and they are the reference point for everything: 0580, 0625, 0620, 0610, 0500, 0510, 0455, 0450, 0417, 0606.

Khor Fakkan candidates are entered through their school, so the centre's administrative zone and the exams officer's deadline are the operative facts. Ask for the zone and the final entry date in writing in the first weeks of Year 10, then plan the teaching inside what those allow.

PEARSONAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE

Examined in a May/June window and in November, with paper codes such as 4MA1 for Mathematics A, 4PH1 for Physics, 4CH1 for Chemistry and 4BI1 for Biology. Several subjects have a tiered or optional-paper structure of their own, and the extent to which a subject can be taken in parts differs from Cambridge. The November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026.

The resit rhythm is the practical difference for an east-coast family. A missed grade in the May/June window can be re-entered in November rather than a year later, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Check the live Pearson timetable before assuming a given paper runs in both windows.

O LEVELAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge O Level

Still entered by some schools in particular subjects, usually where a coursework-free route suits the cohort. Examined in the same June and November series as IGCSE with overlapping content, but the paper structures and grade descriptors differ and past papers are not interchangeable between the two qualifications.

If your child's entry list mixes IGCSE and O Level, say so at the first session. Working an O Level candidate through IGCSE papers wastes the hour, and on this coast a wasted hour is harder to replace than in the city because specialists are booked further ahead.

AS/AAges 16-18 · Years 12-13

AS and A Level, the next step

The sixth-form route most IGCSE students take, examined in June and November series by both boards. The step up in algebraic fluency between Extended Mathematics and AS Pure Mathematics is the commonest reason a Year 12 student asks for help in their first term, and it is a technique gap rather than a content one.

Ministry of Education equivalency on the British track asks for five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than E or grade 3, with Arabic and Islamic education excluded from that count, plus one accredited Advanced Level subject at grade E or above or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Subject by subject, with the code from each board and the component where marks actually go missing. Ask your child's school which of each pair applies before buying any resource.

Mathematics

Cambridge 0580 Core and Extended · Pearson 4MA1

Both are two-paper qualifications without coursework. Extended candidates lose marks on non-calculator algebra, reverse percentages and the questions that want a reason rather than a value. Method marks usually outnumber answer marks, so working shown badly is the most expensive habit in the subject.

Additional Mathematics

Cambridge 0606

A bridge to AS Mathematics taken by stronger Year 11 groups. Calculus arrives early and assumes fluent index and surd work. Students who passed 0580 by recognising question types tend to stall here, and the stall is visible in a single diagnostic session.

Physics

Cambridge 0625 · Pearson 4PH1

Electricity, moments and anything requiring an experimental method are the reliable mark-losers. The Cambridge alternative-to-practical paper rewards precise apparatus description and sensible precautions and is almost always under-practised relative to the theory papers.

Chemistry

Cambridge 0620 · Pearson 4CH1

Mole calculations, electrolysis half-equations and organic reaction conditions account for most lost Extended marks. Command terms decide the length of the answer: state wants a word, explain wants a mechanism, and a paragraph written for a one-mark question costs time at the back of the paper.

Biology

Cambridge 0610 · Pearson 4BI1

Content volume rather than difficulty. Transport in plants, homeostasis and inheritance are the recurring gaps, and data questions are answered from memory instead of from the graph on the page, which scores nothing at all.

Combined and Co-ordinated Sciences

Cambridge 0653 and 0654 · Pearson double award

Reduced-depth science across all three disciplines in one or two awards. Students entered here routinely revise from single-science papers and spend weeks on material their syllabus does not assess. Confirming the code at session one is the cheapest fix available.

First Language English

Cambridge 0500 and 0990 · Pearson 4EA1

Directed writing and composition reward structure and register over vocabulary. Reading responses lose marks when a student retells the passage instead of selecting and commenting, and the time split between the reading questions is a technique problem fixable in two sessions.

English as a Second Language

Cambridge 0510 and 0511

Exercise by exercise this paper is winnable on method: note-making wants short precise points, the summary has an enforced word ceiling, and the writing tasks are marked against a fixed register. Many students here speak better English than their marks suggest.

Economics and Business Studies

Cambridge 0455 and 0450

Extended-response marks come from applying a concept to the stimulus case rather than defining it. In Economics, diagram accuracy decides several marks a paper, and the shift-versus-movement error is the most frequent single loss in the subject.

Information and Communication Technology

Cambridge 0417

Practical papers plus theory. Marks disappear in document production and data handling, where the instructions are long and exact and one unformatted field loses the mark. Timed practice on the real task files is the only approach that shifts the grade.

Arabic, Islamic Education and social studies

School-set and board routes

Taught alongside the licensed international curriculum in every UAE private school, with separate classes for Arab and non-Arab students because the curriculum expectations and the language of instruction differ. Any support has to match the stream the school has placed the student in.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats, picked by the problem rather than by the package. On this coast the choice is usually driven by which board component is causing the trouble.

Single-subject weekly teaching

One subject, one board, one tier, same tutor, same weekly slot. The format for a Year 10 student or a Year 11 student with a term in hand. The tutor works from the student's marked class work and the school's sequence, which keeps the session aimed at what the school has already identified rather than at a generic syllabus order.

  • Board and code confirmed before the first lesson
  • Recording kept, short written note after each session
  • Past papers chosen for the exact code and tier
  • Agreed pauses around mocks and school trips

Practical and alternative-to-practical clinic

Short booked sessions on the component families most often neglect. Apparatus description, variables, precautions, scale reading, spotting a flaw in a method and suggesting an improvement are all taught from real papers on a shared screen. School laboratory work supplies the handling; these sessions supply the written reasoning the paper actually marks.

  • Worked from the correct board's practical or written alternative
  • Method and variable language drilled until it is automatic
  • Graph and table conventions corrected against mark schemes
  • Feedback written so the student can take it to their teacher

Resit and recovery block

A dated block for a student re-entering in November after a missed grade in the summer window, built from the component breakdown on the statement of results rather than from a general revision plan. Fewer weeks, tighter focus, and whole papers at exam timing in the final fortnight.

  • Starts from the component breakdown, not from the overall grade
  • Targets the one or two papers that cost the grade
  • Timed whole papers in the last two weeks, marked
  • Entry deadline confirmed with the school before the block starts

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Khor Fakkan

01

Cambridge against Pearson Edexcel, for the same subject

This comparison is the thing a Khor Fakkan family most needs and the thing no page in this market provides. The two boards are not rivals in a parent's life; they are two different sets of papers your child might be sitting, and only one of them is relevant. The content overlap is large enough that a tutor can teach either, and the assessment differences are large enough that teaching one while the student sits the other loses marks.

The headline differences are these. Cambridge uses four-digit syllabus codes and tiers many subjects into Core and Extended paper sets with different grade ceilings. Pearson uses paper codes beginning with a digit and a subject abbreviation, such as 4MA1 and 4PH1, and structures several subjects with optional or staged papers rather than a Core and Extended split. Cambridge science entries involve either a practical examination or a written alternative to practical, chosen by the centre. Session availability differs too: Cambridge runs June and November for UAE candidates, Pearson a May/June window and November.

For tutoring, three consequences follow. Past papers must match the code, not the subject name, because the structure of the questions differs. Revision guides must match the board, and many on sale locally do not state which. And the tier or optional-paper decision has to be confirmed before a plan is built, because a plan aimed at content the entry does not allow is a plan that cannot work.

Khor Fakkan has a particular version of this problem. With few local schools, families compare notes across different schools and sometimes across different boards, so advice passed between neighbours is less reliable here than it would be in a city neighbourhood where everyone's children attend the same two schools. Check with your own school's exams officer, in writing, and treat everything else as rumour.

02

The tier decision, and why it precedes everything

  • Ask for the tier and the final entry date in writing, per subject
  • A Core entry caps the grade regardless of how well the student is taught
  • Tier-changing work has to happen before the deadline, not after a mock
  • For Pearson, confirm which specific papers the entry covers

A Cambridge Core entry is not an easier version of the same qualification. It is a different paper set with a lower grade ceiling, and that ceiling is fixed by the entry rather than by performance. The decision is made by the school, appears on the entry form months before the papers, and is the single most consequential administrative act in a British-track school year. Families are often not consulted and frequently discover it when results arrive.

The sensible sequence is to settle the tier first and buy teaching second. Ask the school, in writing, which tier each subject is entered at and when the final entry deadline falls. If the marked evidence shows a student consistently at the top of the Core range, that is the case for an Extended entry and it has to be made before the deadline, not after a good mock. If the evidence shows a student well below the Core ceiling across papers, an Extended entry risks a worse outcome than a Core one.

Where tutoring genuinely changes a tier decision is in the weeks before the deadline. Eight weeks of focused teaching can move a borderline student far enough that the school is comfortable entering them at Extended, and that is a decision with two years of consequences. Eight weeks of the same teaching after the entry closes produces a better Core grade and nothing more.

Pearson's structures differ by subject and the logic still holds: find out which papers your child is entered for, in writing, before a tutor plans anything. On this coast the commonest story is not a bad tutor but a good tutor teaching to the wrong entry.

03

Where the marks actually go, component by component

Four causes account for most of the gap between a predicted grade and an awarded one, and none of them is about ability. Misreading the command term. Not showing method. Running out of time on the final pages. Revising content the entry does not assess. Each is teachable and each shows up plainly on a marked past paper, which is why the first session of any block is a diagnostic rather than a lesson.

Command terms set the length of an answer. A one-mark question asking a student to state wants a word or a short phrase; a six-mark question asking them to explain wants a chain of reasoning. Students who write a paragraph for every question lose time at the back of the paper, where the heavy marks sit. In Chemistry this shows up in the organic and electrolysis questions, in Physics in anything about method, in Biology in the data questions that are answered from memory.

Method marks are arithmetic. A four-mark calculation typically awards three marks for method and one for the answer. A student who writes only a wrong answer scores nothing; a student who shows three lines and slips at the end scores three. Changing that habit takes about two sessions and is worth more than a term of extra content for most borderline candidates.

The last cause is administrative and the most galling. Every year a student on this coast arrives for a session having spent a fortnight revising single-science material for a Combined Science entry, or Cambridge material for a Pearson paper. Confirm the board, the code, the tier and whether a practical or written alternative applies. It takes one email and saves weeks.

What the travel premium buys on this coast

Start with the gap rather than with the rates. Published in-home visiting rates in this market are quoted at AED 180 to 500 an hour. Published online rates for a qualified subject tutor run AED 150 to 300, with Unitors publishing IGCSE tuition from AED 150. The difference between those two bands is not teaching quality. It is a car journey, and on the Sharjah east coast that journey is longer than anywhere the published figures were gathered.

What the premium buys is an adult in the room, which is a real thing worth real money for a younger child. What it also buys, without being advertised, is a smaller choice of tutor, because a visiting tutor must live within range of Khor Fakkan. That is the hidden cost, and for an Extended-tier science or Additional Mathematics 0606 it is the expensive one.

The rest of the market, for reference. Budget online tuition runs from about AED 45 to 65 an hour on EdFlik's published rates and from roughly AED 33 to 52 on Tutopiya's, generally delivered by university students. Board specialists run AED 200 to 450 and above, with TutorChase publishing AED 270, and a premium named tutor can reach AED 650 as BartyED publishes. Monthly packages in this market include online plans around AED 799 for eight sessions and in-home plans at AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour visits. These are market figures published by those providers, not an IB Gram price list.

One cost check a parent can make without asking anyone: work out the implied hourly rate of any monthly package by dividing by the number of sessions and the session length. Packages quoted in sessions rather than hours are the easiest place in this market for a rate to look cheaper than it is.

If the grade came back short: the November route

A missed grade in the summer window is not a lost year, and the mechanics are worth knowing before the results arrive. Both boards run a November series, so a re-entry inside the same calendar year is usually possible. Pearson's November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026, which gives a realistic sense of how long the wait for a result is.

The first step is not revision. It is reading the statement of results properly. The component breakdown shows which paper lost the grade, and that changes the plan completely. A student who dropped the grade on one practical-style component needs a different six weeks from one who was a few marks short across every paper. Families who start revising before reading the breakdown usually revise the thing that was already fine.

The second step is the entry itself, which your child's school handles and which has its own deadline well before the papers. Ask the exams officer to confirm the entry in writing, including the code and the tier, because a resit is exactly the moment a code or tier gets changed by accident. If the student has left the school, the private candidate route runs through an approved examination centre rather than through us, and the centre sets its own deadlines and fees.

A resit block is shorter and sharper than a first-time block: six to eight weeks, aimed at one or two named papers, with whole papers at exam timing in the last fortnight. It is the one situation where buying a specialist for the specific component clearly beats buying general support, because the diagnosis has already been done by the board.

06

The permit question, and what to verify about any tutor

  • The MoHRE private tuition permit is free and valid for two years
  • No fine schedule is published, so quoted fine figures are unverified
  • A training-institute permit is a separate thing, for centres with premises
  • Do not seek paid tutoring from a teacher at your child's own school

Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated and most pages in this market avoid saying so. The private tuition work permit was introduced through Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is administered by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. It is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, university students, and school students aged 15 to 18. The official application route is the ministry's own private tutor licensing service, listed with no fee and a two-working-day completion time.

Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule has been published, so any specific amount quoted to you is unverified, including figures that circulate on tutoring sites. A provider who tells you the permit costs money is wrong about something easy to check, which is useful information about the rest of what they say.

There is a separate category worth understanding. A tutoring operation with premises and staff in Dubai needs an educational services permit for a training institute from the Dubai authority, with initial approval first and annual renewal requested ahead of expiry. That permit belongs to organisations with a physical centre. No tutoring provider should describe itself as approved by an education authority on the strength of anything else, and IB Gram holds no such approval, accreditation, licence or partnership from any UAE authority or examination board.

For a teacher at your child's own school, there is one more rule. Abu Dhabi's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, and the permit's code of conduct bars serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school. Treat that as press-reported rather than as the authority's exact wording, and verify it against the current policy document, but do not go looking for your child's own teacher as a paid tutor.

07

How lessons run, and the limits worth knowing

A session is live video with a shared digital whiteboard. The past paper, the marked script or the practical write-up sits on screen and both tutor and student can write on it. A wrong line of working gets rewritten next to the mark scheme. A circuit diagram gets annotated. The session is recorded and kept, which matters on this coast because students spend hours a day on the school run and a recording is the one form of study that survives a moving car.

The practical requirements are small: a laptop or tablet rather than a phone, headphones, and a quiet hour. A phone propped against a textbook is the single arrangement that does not work, because the shared document is the lesson rather than an illustration of it. Connection quality on the east coast is adequate for this in our experience, and a dropped minute costs a minute rather than the session.

The honest limits are two. A student who will not talk to a screen is better served by an adult in the room, and a trial lesson reveals that in twenty minutes rather than after a month of paying. And laboratory handling is school work: what online teaching covers is the written reasoning the practical or alternative-to-practical paper assesses, which is where the marks are.

To close the loop on the search phrase: no tutor arrives in Khor Fakkan. IB Gram does not sell home visits in the UAE, and a provider promising a specialist on this coast at a city hourly rate should be asked who is making the drive and how long they will keep making it.

Where we tutor

Khor Fakkan and the places the decision is made against

Which board your child sits is decided by the school, and which school is decided largely by geography. These are the places that shape that choice for a Khor Fakkan family.

Khor Fakkan

A Sharjah east-coast town on the Gulf of Oman with a deep-water container port setting local working hours. International-curriculum provision is limited, so board choice is effectively made by whichever school a family can reach. Early-evening online slots work well because no traffic has to clear first.

Kalba

Half an hour south along the coast, the other Sharjah east-coast town. The same narrow local choice applies, and families in both towns end up comparing a long drive with online teaching rather than comparing two nearby schools.

Fujairah city

The nearest sizeable urban centre by road, with its own international schools under federal Ministry of Education oversight. A Khor Fakkan student enrolled there may well sit a different board from a neighbour attending school in Sharjah city.

Al Taawun and Al Khan

Coastal Sharjah city districts with long-established British-curriculum schools. This is the board variety an east-coast family does not have locally, and it explains why code confusion is more common here than in the city.

Muwaileh

A Sharjah city campus belt with heavy school-run traffic. For online students on the coast the consequence is competition: the popular 16:00 to 18:00 slots are taken from the city side first.

University City

Sharjah's higher-education cluster, and the reason the Advanced Level part of the Ministry of Education equivalency rule starts mattering to Year 11 families on this coast well before Year 13.

Al Zahia and Tilal City

Newer Sharjah communities with growing cohorts in both board families. Relevant mainly because demand for early-evening specialists concentrates there, and booking ahead of the post-mock rush is a genuine advantage.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Khor Fakkan

Sharjah city, both board families

Schools in this group between them run Cambridge and Pearson entries, which is why two east-coast students in the same street can sit different papers in the same subject. Students we support attend schools in this group. Always confirm the board and code with the school rather than inferring it from a sibling's experience.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

    Confirm board, code and tier

Email the school and ask for the examination board, the syllabus or paper code and the tier for every subject, plus whether each science entry uses a practical examination or the written alternative. A screenshot of the entry list is ideal. Everything else on a tutoring plan depends on these four facts.

  2. 02

    Send one marked paper

A marked mock or class test shows where marks were lost rather than where the student feels weak, and those two rarely match. It also tells us which specialist to assign: a student losing method marks and a student losing content marks need different tutors.

  3. 03

    Free trial lesson, 45 minutes

With the tutor who would continue, on your child's own material, and with no card details taken beforehand. What you are testing is whether your child will say "I do not understand this" to this particular person, which no profile can tell you.

  4. 04

    Agree a dated block

Set the number of weeks, the subject focus and the marked evidence that will exist at the end. For a resit, start from the component breakdown on the statement of results. For a first entry, start from the school's final entry deadline.

  5. 05

    Review on the marks

At the halfway point, look at the marked work rather than the reports. Continue if the gap is closing, change tutor or frequency if it is not. Changing at week four is a normal decision and costs nothing but a short conversation.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Board differences stated, not glossed

Cambridge and Pearson are compared code by code above, including session availability and how science practical skills are assessed. Nothing else in this market does that, and it is the single commonest cause of wasted tutoring hours on this coast.

Tier before teaching

Core and Extended is an entry decision with a grade ceiling attached, and it is settled by the school months before the papers. We ask about it first, because buying eight weeks of Extended teaching for a Core entry is money spent on a grade that cannot be awarded.

Rates in dirhams, with the premium named

The gap between the online band and the in-home band is travel, and this page says so with the published figures beside it. You can check a quote against the market instead of against a feeling.

The resit route explained properly

A November re-entry starts with the component breakdown on the statement of results, not with general revision. Most families revise before reading it, which usually means revising the paper that was already adequate.

The permit facts, as published

Free of charge, two years, specific eligible categories, no published fine schedule. A provider telling you otherwise is wrong about something you can check in a minute, which is worth knowing before you trust the rest.

Lessons are live online, one to one, with recordings kept. IB Gram does not place tutors in UAE homes; home visits are an India-only service. You read that in the first screen rather than discovering it at the booking stage.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Khor Fakkan: your questions answered

How do I find out which IGCSE board my child's Khor Fakkan school uses?+

Email the exams officer and ask for the board, the syllabus or paper code and the tier for each subject, plus whether science entries use a practical examination or the written alternative. Cambridge codes are four digits such as 0580 and 0625; Pearson codes look like 4MA1 and 4PH1. Do not infer the board from a neighbour's child, because east-coast families often attend different schools on different boards. Ask for it in writing, because a verbal answer is not something you can check later.

Does it matter to a Khor Fakkan student whether the entry is Cambridge or Edexcel?+

They cover overlapping content and are treated comparably by universities, but they are not the same papers. Cambridge tiers many subjects into Core and Extended with different grade ceilings and uses four-digit codes; Pearson structures several subjects differently and uses codes such as 4CH1. Session availability differs: Cambridge runs June and November for UAE candidates, Pearson a May/June window and November. For tutoring the difference is practical, because past papers and revision material must match the code your child sits.

Does a Core entry limit what tutoring can do for a Khor Fakkan student?+

Yes, and this is the most important sentence on the page. A Cambridge Core entry caps the grades available, so a student entered at Core cannot reach the top grades however well they are taught. The tier is fixed on the entry form months before the papers. Ask the school which tier each subject is entered at, in writing, before buying any teaching. If a tier change is warranted by the marked evidence, it has to be requested before the entry deadline.

Will a tutor come to our address in Khor Fakkan?+

No. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service we offer only in India. Lessons here run live online, one to one, over video with a shared whiteboard and the past paper on screen, and the session is recorded. The phrase "home tutor" is the search term parents use, so the page uses it honestly. What you get instead of a visit is a tutor chosen for the exact board and code rather than for living within driving range.

Which IGCSE exam series can my child sit from the UAE?+

Cambridge runs a June series and a November series for UAE candidates, with Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests in March, May and October. Pearson's International GCSE runs in a May/June window and in November. The February and March examination series that appears in some tutoring material is offered in India only. Cambridge also allocates centres to one of six administrative zones and warns that the correct zone timetable must be used, so ask your school which zone it sits in.

My child missed a grade in the summer. How does a November resit work?+

Start by reading the component breakdown on the statement of results, because it names the paper that lost the grade and a plan built without it usually targets the wrong one. The school handles the re-entry and its deadline falls well before the papers, so confirm the code and tier in writing at the same time. Pearson's November 2026 timetable ran to 19 November 2026 and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026, which shows the realistic wait for a result.

If my child studies with an online tutor, who covers the practical science component?+

Cambridge centres choose between a practical examination and a written alternative to practical, and Pearson assesses practical skills through written papers. What the written components test is reasoning on paper: apparatus choice, variables, precautions, scale reading, identifying a flaw in a method and suggesting an improvement. All of that is taught from real papers on a shared screen. Handling equipment happens in your child's school laboratory, where it belongs, and the marks come from the reasoning.

How many IGCSE subjects should a Khor Fakkan student have tutoring in?+

Fewer than most families start with. Hours spread across three subjects usually move none of them, because each gets too little contact to rebuild anything. The better approach is to use the marked evidence to find the one or two subjects where the gap is largest and the grade is most at risk, concentrate there for a dated block, then reassess. If the real problem is organisation across every subject rather than content in one, that is a different purchase entirely.

What does IGCSE tutoring cost in Khor Fakkan compared with the city?+

The published market bands are the same wherever you sit, because the online tutor pool is national: roughly AED 45 to 65 an hour at EdFlik's budget rate, AED 150 to 300 for a qualified subject tutor online with Unitors publishing IGCSE from AED 150, and AED 200 to 450 or more for board specialists where TutorChase publishes AED 270. Visiting in-home rates are quoted at AED 180 to 500. On this coast the in-home premium would be larger, because the journey is longer.

Does a tutor teaching a Khor Fakkan student need a UAE permit?+

Individuals providing private tuition in the UAE need the private tuition work permit introduced under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and administered by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. It is granted free of charge for two years, and eligible categories include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Those operating without one are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule is published, so quoted amounts are unverified.

Can my child take different IGCSE subjects with different exam boards?+

Schools do sometimes enter candidates across both boards, and in some subjects alongside O Level. It is legitimate and it creates a practical trap: the family buys one set of revision material and uses it for everything. Ask for the entry list by subject with the board and code against each one. For tutoring, say which is which at the first session, because a tutor working an O Level candidate through IGCSE papers is teaching the wrong structure with the right content.

Is it worth paying more for an examiner-marketed tutor on this coast?+

Only if the claim can be evidenced. Published premium rates in this market reach AED 650 an hour against AED 150 to 300 for a qualified subject tutor online. Examiner status for an individual is easy to assert and hard to verify, and it implies nothing about access to marking standards or unreleased paper content. A tutor who knows the published mark scheme in detail and will show you a marked script is more useful than a title on a profile. Ask to see the script.

Which authority oversees private schools on the Sharjah east coast?+

The Sharjah Private Education Authority regulates private education in the emirate, including the east-coast towns, and for Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah the authority also approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. A Khor Fakkan student enrolled in Fujairah comes under federal Ministry of Education supervision instead. No UAE education authority approves or accredits private tutoring providers, so a provider claiming otherwise is making a checkable claim that does not hold.

How quickly can a Khor Fakkan family start lessons?+

Common subjects in early-evening Gulf Standard Time slots are usually matched quickly. Narrow combinations take longer: Additional Mathematics 0606, ICT practical coaching, Arabic as a first language, or an unusual board variant late in a series. If the right specialist is not free for your preferred slot we say so and name the alternatives, which are a different slot with the right tutor, a short declared bridging block, or a decline. Booking outside the post-mock rush is the reliable way to get both the tutor and the time.

Can one tutor teach both Cambridge and Pearson versions of a subject?+

In mathematics and the sciences, many can, because the content overlap is substantial and an experienced tutor knows both paper structures. Ask the specific question: which codes have you taught to examination classes, and in which series? A tutor who answers with named codes and components is telling you something verifiable. One who answers with the subject name is telling you they will learn the structure while teaching your child, which you are paying for either way.

Confirm the code, then buy the teaching

If you are looking for an IGCSE home tutor in Khor Fakkan, send one email before you send any money. Ask your child's school for the board, the syllabus or paper code and the tier for each subject, and whether the science entries use a practical examination or the written alternative. With those four facts, a tutor can plan from the first session rather than from the third, and you can tell whether a revision guide on sale locally is relevant to your child at all. Send us that list and one marked paper and we will tell you where the marks are going before the free trial lesson.
