IB Home Tutor in Khor Fakkan

An IB home tutor in Khor Fakkan is almost always wanted for a dated reason: an internal assessment due in three weeks, mocks after the break, or a Diploma first year that has quietly slipped. This page is built around the Diploma calendar as a school actually runs it, and around the fact that lessons here are delivered live online, one to one, rather than by anyone driving the mountain road.

  • Lessons run over live video with the draft or paper on a shared screen
  • Planning starts from the school's own internal deadlines, in writing
  • Published market rates quoted in dirhams with the source named
  • A 45-minute trial lesson at no cost, no card details taken first

IB & IGCSE in Khor Fakkan

The Diploma year, as a school actually runs it

Parents in Khor Fakkan rarely go looking for a tutor in September. The search happens in the week after a report, or a fortnight before an internal assessment draft is due, or when a first-year Diploma student comes home with a predicted grade nobody expected. By then the year has a shape, and the useful question is no longer whether to get help but where in the calendar you currently stand.

The Diploma Programme runs over two years and its pressure is not evenly spread. The written examinations fall in a May session for schools in this region. Everything else is internal and earlier: six subject internal assessments, the Extended Essay with its own supervision meetings, Theory of Knowledge with an essay and an exhibition, and Creativity, Activity, Service running alongside. The school sets the deadlines for all of them, and those deadlines, not the examination timetable, are what crush a second-year student in the winter term.

The useful planning move is therefore boring and almost nobody does it: get every internal deadline for the year in writing, in one list, in the first fortnight of term. Diploma coordinators publish them. Once they are in one place, the clear weeks become visible, and tutoring can be bought into the gaps rather than into a panic. A family that does this in September buys half as much tutoring as one that starts in February and gets more from it.

Khor Fakkan adds its own constraint. The town sits on the Gulf of Oman with a deep-water container port that sets working hours for a lot of its parents, and the nearest concentration of Diploma schools is over the Hajar mountains in Sharjah city, well over an hour away, or south along the coast. Nobody with a Higher Level Physics background is going to make that drive twice a week for a single student at a sensible rate. So the local list is short, and the honest answer is to stop treating distance as the constraint.

Stated plainly: IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE. Home visits are a service we provide only in India. Every Khor Fakkan lesson runs live online, one to one, with a shared whiteboard, the student's own draft or past paper on screen and a recording kept afterwards. The phrase "home tutor" is the search term, and it would be dishonest to let it suggest a car on its way.

What follows is the calendar in detail, with the mock season, the internal assessment sequence, what eight weeks can realistically deliver, the market rates in dirhams, and the academic-honesty line that governs what any tutor may touch on assessed work. Read the two-year sequence table first if you only read one part of the page, then look at where your child currently sits in it.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Three IB programmes and one transition route cover the Khor Fakkan enquiries we see. Each is described by the deadline pattern it imposes, because that is what a calendar-led plan has to fit around.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Six subjects at Higher and Standard Level with the three core elements. Internal assessments are marked by the teacher against published criteria and then moderated, so the quality of a draft submitted in the winter term affects a grade awarded in the summer. The written papers come in a May session for schools in this region, and the second year is front-loaded with internal deadlines rather than revision.

East-coast Diploma students usually travel to school in Sharjah city or Fujairah, losing two hours a day to the road. That lost time is the hidden variable in every Diploma plan here, and it is the strongest practical argument for buying teaching that does not add a journey of its own.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Eight subject groups, four criteria per subject, each marked out of eight and converted to a one-to-seven grade. There is no external examination in most MYP schools, so the year is a sequence of criterion-assessed tasks rather than a build towards papers. A report showing strong knowledge and a weak analysis criterion is the classic signal that help is needed.

For Khor Fakkan families the MYP question is usually about what comes next. A student who has never sat a timed written paper that counted will meet one in the Diploma Programme or in a Year 10 IGCSE cohort, and the technique gap is larger than the content gap.

PYPAges 3-12

Primary Years Programme

An inquiry-based primary framework assessed continuously rather than by examination. Support at this stage is about literacy and number fluency and about a child being willing to try something they might get wrong, which is as much a relationship as a curriculum question.

This is the one age group where a nearby adult may genuinely beat a distant specialist. If your child is primary-age and needs someone in the room, we will say so rather than sell you a screen, because at that age the room matters.

The IGCSE and A Level alternative

Many east-coast students sit Cambridge or Pearson International GCSE courses before a sixth form, examined in a June series and a November series at Cambridge and in a May/June window and November at Pearson. Families comparing this route with the Diploma should compare the assessment style, not the reputation: tiered written papers against criterion-marked internal work.

For Ministry of Education equivalency on the British track a student needs five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than E or grade 3, excluding Arabic and Islamic education, plus one Advanced Level at E or two Advanced Subsidiary Levels. No IB points threshold should be taken from a tutoring page, including this one.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the Diploma subjects east-coast families ask about, with the internal assessment task named and the point in the year it bites. A calendar-led plan is built from this list and the school's deadline sheet.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

The exploration is the internal assessment and it is the task students most often postpone. The Higher Level papers reward fluent algebra and proof technique; the exploration rewards genuine mathematical reasoning on a question narrow enough to be answered. Both are trainable, and neither improves in the fortnight before a deadline.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Modelling and statistics with technology used throughout. The exploration suits students who can find real data and interpret it in context, and it punishes those who collect numbers without a question. Check which route named university programmes expect before the choice is locked.

Physics

HL and SL

The scientific investigation is an individual piece of experimental work, planned and analysed by the student. Paper marks are lost on multi-step problems where a method has to be built rather than recalled, and on vague explanation answers in fields and waves.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Energetics, equilibrium and organic mechanisms are the recurring weak points, and the investigation needs a question that can actually be measured. A student whose uncertainty treatment is guesswork will lose marks under the analysis and evaluation criteria no matter how good the chemistry is.

Biology

HL and SL

The content volume makes students answer from memory instead of from the question. Command terms are the fix. The investigation needs a measurable variable and enough repeats to say something, which is a planning conversation best had weeks before the laboratory session.

Economics

HL and SL

Internal assessment commentaries built on recent news articles, each with a word limit and a required diagram. Marks come from applying one syllabus concept properly rather than from summarising the article, and the commonest loss is a diagram that shows a movement where a shift was meant.

Business Management

HL and SL

Marks live in the application to the named organisation and in evaluation that reaches a judgement. Students who define tools correctly and never apply them plateau in the fours and fives, which is a structural habit a tutor can change in a few sessions.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

The individual oral and the paper analyses all require an argument about how a text produces its effect. Fluent writing with no analytical spine is the standard east-coast profile, and the repair is a repeatable structure applied until it stops feeling mechanical.

Theory of Knowledge

DP core

An essay against a prescribed title and an exhibition of three objects, both marked against published criteria. Support is scoping, structure and feedback on the student's own drafts. Left to the last month, it costs more marks than its weighting suggests because of what it does to everything else.

The Extended Essay

DP core

Four thousand words with a supervisor, a research question that has to be answerable, and reflection sessions that are themselves assessed. Nearly every problem with it is a scope problem set in the first fortnight, and nearly every rescue happens too late to fix the scope.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats, each matched to a position in the calendar. Which one a Khor Fakkan family needs depends on how many clear weeks sit between today and the next internal deadline.

Weekly subject teaching

A fixed weekly slot in one subject at one level, running with the school's sequence. This is the format for a first-year Diploma student or for anyone with more than a term in hand, because topics can be rebuilt from the definition up rather than patched before a test. The tutor works from marked class work, so the session targets what the school has already found.

  • One subject, one level, the same tutor each week
  • Recording kept and a short written note after each session
  • Topic order agreed against the school's own scheme of work
  • Agreed pauses around mocks, travel and Eid breaks

Deadline block

A short dated block aimed at one internal deadline: an exploration, an investigation, an economics commentary, a Theory of Knowledge essay or an Extended Essay chapter. Sessions are spaced so the student writes between them, because the student does the writing. The tutor teaches the criteria, responds to drafts and holds the scope honest.

  • Planned backwards from the school's own submission date
  • Criteria read line by line with mark allocations named
  • Feedback on the student's own draft, never a rewrite
  • Written feedback the student can take to their supervisor

Mock and examination run-in

Two sessions a week through the weeks before mocks or the May session, each ending in timed work marked against the published scheme. The purpose is paper technique and pacing rather than new content, and the final fortnight is whole papers only. Starting this early in the term beats starting it in the panic week by a wide margin.

  • A full diagnostic paper in the first session, marked together
  • Command terms and method marks drilled explicitly
  • Timing worked by mark value rather than by stopwatch
  • No new content in the last two weeks, by design

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Khor Fakkan

01

What an IB home tutor in Khor Fakkan can achieve from here

  • Rescue work is bounded by how fast the student can write, not by hours bought
  • Repair work needs eight to twelve weeks and marked evidence every fortnight
  • A five-to-six lift is usually technique: command terms, structure, timing
  • Get the school's internal deadline sheet before deciding which you need

Families searching for an IB home tutor in Khor Fakkan want one of three things, and knowing which one changes what to buy. The first is a rescue: a deadline inside three weeks and a draft that is not working. The second is a repair: a subject where marks have slipped and a term in which to rebuild it. The third is a lift: a student who is at a five and wants a six, where the gap is technique rather than knowledge. All three are real jobs, and they need different numbers of hours in different parts of the term.

The rescue is the most expensive per mark and the most common purchase. It can be done, within limits: a draft can be scoped properly, a criterion-by-criterion read can redirect the effort, and a student can be taught what the evaluation criterion actually wants in a single session. What cannot happen is a tutor writing any part of it, which means the timeline is bounded by how fast the student can write, not by how much help is bought.

The repair is where tutoring earns its money. Eight to twelve weeks on a Higher Level subject, with marked evidence at the end of each fortnight, moves paper marks reliably because there is time to teach, practise and re-test. This is the purchase a family who has the school's deadline sheet in September can make calmly in October, and it is the one almost nobody makes.

The format, so there is no confusion: lessons are live online, one to one, over video. IB Gram does not place tutors in homes in Khor Fakkan or anywhere else in the UAE; home visits are an India-only service. For a town this far from the Diploma school belt, that is the difference between a Higher Level specialist and whoever is within range.

02

The Diploma two years, counted forwards from term one

Nobody in this market publishes the Diploma calendar, and it is the thing parents most need. The table below is the sequence as schools in this region generally run it. Treat it as the shape of the two years rather than as a set of dates: every school sets its own internal deadlines, and the only authoritative list is the one your child's Diploma coordinator issues. Written examination dates and results dates for the IB should be confirmed with the coordinator or the IB directly rather than taken from any tutoring page, including this one.

Read it with one question in mind: where are the clear weeks? The first year has them, in the autumn and after the spring assessments. The second year has almost none between the start of term and the end of the internal deadline run, which is why a second-year family often finds there is no room left to add two sessions a week without removing something else. The plan has to be made in the space that exists.

The pattern that causes most damage is predictable. Internal assessment work slips by a fortnight in the first year because there is no immediate penalty, the Extended Essay scope is left loose, and both arrive in the second year on top of each other and on top of mocks. Each individual slip is small and the accumulation is what produces the February crisis. A calendar-led tutoring plan is mostly a device for preventing that accumulation.

Eight weeks before mocks: what is realistic

Mock results are the single most common trigger for a tutoring enquiry on the east coast, which is a shame, because the eight weeks before mocks are worth more than the eight weeks after. A mock paper is a diagnostic instrument the school provides free of charge, and a student who walks into it having already practised whole papers under timing gets a far more useful result from it.

A realistic eight-week block before mocks looks like this. Two weeks of diagnosis and content triage, using a past paper and the student's own marked work to decide which two or three topics are costing the most marks. Four weeks of teaching those topics properly and drilling them, mixed with earlier material so the gains hold. Two weeks of whole papers at exam timing with marks counted and lost marks grouped by cause rather than by topic.

The discipline that makes this work is refusing to add content late. If a Higher Level topic is still broken at week six, it stays broken for the mock, because the marginal mark is cheaper in technique. Families find this uncomfortable and it is the most reliable judgement in the whole plan. The broken topic goes into the post-mock block, where there is time for it.

One more thing specific to this coast. Students here lose roughly two hours a day to the school run, which is the equivalent of a whole study session. Recorded lessons get watched on that journey, and that is not a feature invented for a brochure; it is the single most-used thing about online delivery that east-coast families report.

What Diploma support costs here, read monthly first

Most pages in this market either publish no price or quote in dollars. Start with the monthly figure, because that is how a family actually budgets. Bestimate's Dubai rate work puts a weekly one-hour arrangement at roughly AED 240 to 600 a month at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle, and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. Published monthly packages in this market include online plans around AED 799 for eight sessions and in-home plans at AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour visits. Those are market figures from published provider pages, not an IB Gram price list.

Convert to hours only afterwards. Budget online tuition, usually a university student, runs from about AED 45 to 65 an hour on EdFlik's published rates and from roughly AED 33 to 52 on Tutopiya's. A qualified subject tutor online sits at AED 150 to 300, with Unitors publishing IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. Board specialists run AED 200 to 450 and above, with TutorChase publishing AED 270, and a named premium tutor can reach AED 650 as BartyED's published rate does. Visiting in-home rates are quoted at AED 180 to 500 an hour.

The pattern worth noticing is that the monthly figure is driven by frequency far more than by tier. Two sessions a week with a mid-band specialist costs more per month than one session a week with a premium name, and for a second-year Diploma student in a deadline run it is usually the better purchase. Frequency buys contact with the work; tier buys precision about it. A deadline block needs frequency.

For context on the fixed side of a family budget: the Dubai authority confirmed on 22 May 2026 that private school fees in the emirate would not rise for the 2026-27 academic year, under an incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion. Tutoring is the part of the education budget a family can actually time, and timing it into the clear weeks rather than the crisis weeks is what makes it cheaper.

Online lessons against a tutor crossing the mountains

The comparison deserves honest numbers rather than rhetoric. Khor Fakkan to Sharjah city is a mountain crossing of well over an hour each way. Kalba is half an hour south. Fujairah city is closer than Sharjah city. A visiting tutor coming from the Sharjah school belt after their own working day cannot realistically be at a Khor Fakkan address before the evening is well advanced, and a late start on a school night is a worse lesson whoever is teaching it.

Then the supply question. Within range of this town, how many adults have taught Diploma Programme Higher Level Chemistry to examination classes and marked an investigation against its criteria? It is a short list, and it does not grow because a family wants it to. Online, the constraint disappears, and the tutor is chosen for the subject and level rather than for the postcode.

The in-home market is real and this page is not pretending otherwise. Rates for visiting tutors are quoted at AED 180 to 500 an hour, and that premium over the online band is the travel. From the east coast that premium would be larger, because the journey is longer and unpaid. Families who want someone in the room will find providers who offer it; what they should check is who precisely is driving, how often, and what happens in week six when the novelty of the commute wears off.

To restate it so nobody is misled: IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE, and no tutor will arrive at a Khor Fakkan address. What is offered is the same one-to-one teaching over live video with a wider choice of specialist, a session that starts on time, and a recording afterwards.

Ramadan, Eid and the terms that are shorter than they look

A calendar-led plan has to account for the weeks that are not really there. School days shorten through Ramadan, the hour before iftar is poor study time regardless of discipline, and the Eid breaks remove revision days on both sides. A Diploma second year that looks like twelve clear weeks on paper often contains eight usable ones, and a plan built on the paper number produces a scramble.

What works on the east coast is moving rather than pausing. A post-iftar session, shorter than the usual length, keeps continuity through the month, and the heavy diagnostic work is scheduled into the weeks on either side. Families who pause entirely come back having lost not only the four weeks but the habit, and rebuilding the habit costs another fortnight.

The other calendar fact is the mandatory UAE subjects, which take real timetable space. Private schools here teach Arabic, Islamic Education and social or moral studies alongside the licensed international curriculum, with separate classes for Arab and non-Arab students because the curriculum expectations and the language of instruction differ. Instructional time is calculated on a forty-minute lesson unit. Those periods are not free study time, and counting them as such is how a plan overestimates capacity.

Sharjah's own authority adds the layer above: the Sharjah Private Education Authority regulates private education in the emirate and approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. A Khor Fakkan family whose child attends school in Fujairah is under federal Ministry of Education supervision instead. Neither authority endorses any tutor, and no tutoring provider in this market should suggest one does.

07

Academic honesty on internal assessment, stated precisely

  • Permitted: teaching, explaining criteria, challenging scope, feedback on the student's draft
  • Prohibited: drafting, supplying paragraphs, rewriting, editing beyond the student's voice
  • The school holds draft and meeting records and knows the student's written register
  • Board materials are linked at source rather than redistributed

This is the section the essay mills in this market do not write. One provider found in the competitor set sells completed Internal Assessments outright for a fee. That is malpractice under IB rules, the consequence lands on the student rather than the seller, and it is not a service IB Gram will provide at any price or under any framing.

The permitted work is substantial and worth knowing precisely. A tutor may teach the underlying subject skills, explain the published assessment criteria and their mark allocations, discuss and challenge a proposed research question, talk through method, and give written feedback on a draft the student has written. A tutor may say an argument is unsupported, a method is unsound, a sample is too small, or a section is four pages long against a criterion worth few marks.

The prohibited work is equally clear. No tutor drafts the work, supplies paragraphs, rewrites sentences into a voice the student does not have, or edits a piece into something the student could not have produced. The school supervises these tasks, keeps records of drafts and meetings, and knows the student's written voice; a sudden change in register is exactly what that record exists to detect.

Materials follow the same logic. Syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes and subject guides belong to the boards. We reference them and link to the official source rather than redistributing them. A provider offering a shared drive of papers and mark schemes is telling you something general about how it treats rules, and that is worth hearing before you hand over your child's coursework.

08

Getting started from the east coast, including the honest limits

The first useful step costs nothing: ask your child's Diploma coordinator for the full internal deadline list for the year and put it in one calendar with the mock dates. Most families have never seen the whole list in one place, and seeing it usually changes the decision about how much tutoring to buy and when. If the clear weeks are in October, buy in October.

Then send three things: the subject and level, one piece of marked work or a criteria sheet with the teacher's comments, and the deadline you are most worried about. A marked script tells a tutor in two minutes what a phone call takes twenty minutes to approximate, and it determines which specialist we assign rather than which one is free.

The trial lesson is free, lasts forty-five minutes, uses your child's own material and is taught by the tutor who would continue. No card details are taken beforehand. What it tests is whether your child will tell this particular adult what they do not understand, which matters more than any credential and cannot be judged from a profile.

The honest limits, said before you pay rather than after. Narrow combinations take longer to match: a Higher Level science with a deadline inside two weeks, Theory of Knowledge at short notice, Arabic as a first language. When we cannot cover something well, we say so and name the alternatives: a different slot with the right specialist, a short declared bridging block, or a decline. For a Khor Fakkan family with few local fallbacks, a straight answer is worth more than an optimistic one.

Where we tutor

Khor Fakkan, the coast road and the mountain crossing

Scheduling on the east coast is a geography problem before it is a diary problem. These are the places that shape a Khor Fakkan family's options, with the detail that changes a session time.

Khor Fakkan

A Sharjah exclave on the Gulf of Oman with a deep-water container port that sets shift patterns for many local families. International-curriculum provision is thin locally, so Diploma students commute or study online. Sessions from 17:00 work because there is no city traffic to absorb first.

Kalba

Half an hour south along the coast, the other Sharjah east-coast town, with the same shortage of Higher Level subject specialists within range. Families in both towns compare notes and reach the same conclusion about the drive.

Fujairah city

The nearest urban centre of size by road, with its own international schools under federal Ministry of Education oversight rather than the Sharjah authority. A Khor Fakkan student enrolled there is governed by different published material and a different fee-approval route.

Al Majaz and Al Khan

Central Sharjah coastal districts with dense school provision. This is the alternative a Khor Fakkan family is implicitly comparing against, and the hour-plus crossing is what makes the comparison unequal.

Muwaileh

A Sharjah city school belt with heavy mid-afternoon traffic. For an online student on the coast the relevance is competition for slots: the popular early-evening hours fill from the city side first.

Aljada and Al Zahia

Newer Sharjah communities with growing cohorts and the same demand pattern for early-evening tutoring. Booking a Khor Fakkan slot before the post-mock rush is a practical advantage, not a sales line.

University City

The Sharjah city higher-education cluster. Relevant to second-year Diploma families because university requirements, and the Ministry of Education equivalency step behind them, start to matter while subject choices are still live.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Khor Fakkan

IB and international schools in Sharjah city

Schools in this group are where east-coast Diploma students usually end up enrolled, with a daily mountain crossing to match. Students we support attend schools in this group. The journey is the reason a lesson that starts on time has more value here than it does in a city neighbourhood.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

    Get the deadline sheet

Ask the Diploma coordinator for every internal deadline for the year, in writing, and add the mock dates. This one request reorganises more tutoring plans than any diagnostic does, because it shows where the clear weeks are and where there is no room to add anything.

  2. 02

Send marked work, not a description

A marked script, a criteria sheet with comments, or a report with criterion letters. It shows where marks were actually lost rather than where the student feels weak, and the two disagree more often than they agree. It also decides which specialist is the right match.

  3. 03

    Free 45-minute trial

With the tutor who would continue, on your child's own material, with no card details taken first. The test is whether your child will admit confusion to this person. Credentials matter less than that, and a profile cannot show it.

  4. 04

    Plan backwards from one date

Pick the deadline that matters most and build the block backwards from it: how many sessions, what the student writes between them, what marked evidence exists at the end. A block with no end date and no checkpoint turns into months of going over things.

  5. 05

Review on evidence at the halfway point

Halfway through, read the marked work rather than the reports. Continue if the gap has closed, change the tutor or the frequency if it has not. Changing at week four is normal, costs nothing, and is far better than changing at week twelve.

Market figures are published above as monthly budgets and then as hourly bands, each with the provider who published them named. Families budget by the month, so the page leads with the month rather than with an hourly figure that hides frequency.

The east coast treated as itself

A mountain crossing of over an hour, a thin local pool of Higher Level specialists and two hours a day lost to the school run are the facts that shape tutoring here. This page starts from them instead of describing a Dubai neighbourhood with the name changed.

Criteria before content

On any internal assessment, the first session reads the published criteria against what the student has written. Analysis and evaluation carry the heavy marks and method description carries few, and most drafts have that balance backwards.

No in-person promise, anywhere

Lessons are live online, one to one. IB Gram does not place tutors in UAE homes; home visits are an India-only service. That appears in the first screen rather than in the small print, because a family this far out deserves to know before investing hope in a visit.

Limits disclosed before payment

If no specialist covers your subject, level and slot, we say so and name the alternatives rather than filling the hour. On a coast with few fallbacks, a straight no is more useful than a confident maybe.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Khor Fakkan: your questions answered

Will an IB tutor travel to our home in Khor Fakkan?+

No. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service we offer only in India. Lessons for Khor Fakkan students run live online, one to one, over video with a shared whiteboard, the student's own draft or past paper on screen and a recording kept afterwards. The search term is "home tutor" because that is what parents type. The trade is a Higher Level specialist chosen for the subject instead of whoever can make an hour-long mountain drive twice a week.

When do Diploma students at east-coast schools sit their written papers?+

Schools in this region sit the Diploma written examinations in a May session. The internal deadlines matter more to your planning: six subject internal assessments, the Extended Essay with its reflection sessions, and the Theory of Knowledge essay and exhibition all fall earlier and are set by the school rather than by the calendar. Ask the Diploma coordinator for the full internal deadline list, and confirm any examination or results date with the coordinator or the IB directly rather than with a tutoring page.

My child's Khor Fakkan school deadline is in three weeks. Is it too late?+

Not too late, but the limits are worth knowing. In three weeks a draft can be rescoped, the criteria can be read against what exists, and effort can be redirected from the sections that pay little to the ones that pay most. What cannot happen is a tutor writing any part of it, so the timeline is bounded by how fast your child can write rather than by how many sessions you buy. Two or three well-spaced sessions with writing in between beats four sessions in a week.

How many hours a week does a second-year Diploma student in Khor Fakkan need?+

Frequency matters more than tier in a deadline run. One session a week in a quiet term is enough to rebuild a subject; two a week is what a second year with internal deadlines stacked against mocks actually requires, and it is the reason monthly costs rise more from frequency than from choosing a more expensive tutor. Market monthly figures run roughly AED 600 to 1,200 for a weekly hour with a qualified tutor, and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist examination-year support.

Is the eight weeks before mocks or after mocks more useful?+

Before, and it is not close. A mock is a free diagnostic instrument the school provides, and a student who has already sat whole papers under timing gets a far better reading from it. Eight weeks beforehand buys two weeks of diagnosis, four of teaching the two or three costly topics, and two of whole papers at exam timing. Eight weeks afterwards is spent repairing what the mock exposed, which is useful but reactive, and the clock has moved on.

What does the Extended Essay actually go wrong on?+

Scope, nearly always, and it is set in the first fortnight. A question too broad to answer in four thousand words produces a descriptive essay no amount of later work rescues, and a question with no accessible sources produces a stall. The reflection sessions with the supervisor are themselves assessed, so missing them costs marks directly. Support here is scoping, structure and feedback on the student's own drafts; no tutor may draft or rewrite any part of it.

How do internal assessment criteria differ from a mark scheme?+

A mark scheme awards marks for specified answers on a written paper. Internal assessment criteria are lettered descriptor bands, each with its own mark allocation, that a teacher applies to a piece of the student's own work before external moderation. Analysis and evaluation usually carry the heaviest allocations, and method description usually carries few, which is the opposite of how most drafts are balanced. Reading the criteria against the draft is the single highest-value hour of support on the task.

Can online lessons handle a Diploma science investigation?+

Yes for the parts that are assessed on paper, which is most of them: the research question, the variables, the method justification, uncertainty treatment, the analysis and the evaluation. All of that is worked on a shared screen with the draft and the criteria side by side. The practical handling of apparatus happens in your child's school laboratory, where it belongs. The marks come from the reasoning around the measurements rather than from the measurements themselves.

How should a Khor Fakkan family schedule tutoring through Ramadan?+

Move the slot instead of pausing. School days shorten, and the hour before iftar is poor study time no matter how disciplined the student is. A shorter post-iftar session keeps continuity, with the heavy diagnostic work scheduled into the weeks either side of the month. Families who stop entirely lose the four weeks and then the habit, and rebuilding the habit costs another fortnight. Agree the revised timing before the month begins rather than during it.

Which authority oversees schools in Khor Fakkan?+

Khor Fakkan is part of Sharjah, so its private schools come under the Sharjah Private Education Authority, which regulates private education in the emirate and approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. If your child is enrolled in Fujairah instead, federal Ministry of Education supervision applies. No education authority in the UAE approves or accredits private tutoring providers, so treat any provider implying otherwise with caution.

Why does my child's Diploma timetable include Arabic and Islamic Education?+

Private schools in the UAE must teach Arabic language, social studies and Islamic studies alongside their licensed international curriculum, under federal regulations. Schools organise separate classes for Arab and non-Arab students, because the curriculum expectations and the language of instruction differ, and combined classes are prohibited. Instructional time is calculated on a forty-minute lesson unit. For planning, count those periods out of your estimate of independent study time, because the usable total is lower than most families assume.

Can a tutor give feedback on a draft my child wrote?+

Yes, and that is the legitimate centre of this work. A tutor may teach the skills, explain the published criteria and mark allocations, challenge a research question, discuss method and respond in writing to a draft the student produced. A tutor may not draft it, supply paragraphs or rewrite it into a voice the student does not have. One provider in this market sells completed assessed work; buying it is malpractice and the student carries the consequence, not the seller.

Do lesson recordings actually get used on the east coast?+

More than anywhere else, because of the school run. East-coast students lose roughly two hours a day to the road, and a recorded session is the one piece of study that works in a moving car. The practical setup matters: a laptop or tablet rather than a phone, headphones, and a quiet hour for the live session itself. A phone camera pointed at a textbook is the only arrangement that genuinely does not work, because the shared document is the lesson.

What happens if no Higher Level specialist is free for our slot?+

We tell you before you pay. Common subjects in early-evening Gulf Standard Time slots match quickly; narrow ones take longer, including a Higher Level science with a deadline inside a fortnight, Theory of Knowledge at short notice, or Arabic as a first language. The alternatives are a different slot with the right specialist, a short declared bridging block with a strong generalist, or an honest decline. Booking outside the post-mock rush avoids the problem, which is the least exciting advice on this page and the most effective.

Is tutoring needed for UAE equivalency after a Diploma from a Sharjah school?+

No. Equivalency is a regulatory process run by the Ministry of Education and the emirate attestation authorities, and tutoring is not required for it, for university admission or for school progression. For the British track the published requirement is five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than E or grade 3, excluding Arabic and Islamic education, plus one Advanced Level at E or two Advanced Subsidiary Levels. No IB points threshold should be taken from any tutoring page; verify it with the authority directly.

Get the deadline list first, then decide

If you are looking for an IB home tutor in Khor Fakkan, the free step that changes everything is asking the Diploma coordinator for the whole year of internal deadlines in one list, alongside the mock dates. Most families have never seen it assembled, and seeing it usually changes both how much tutoring they buy and when they buy it. Send us that list, the subject and level, and one piece of marked work, and we will say which weeks are worth buying and which are already full before you pay for anything.
