IB IGCSE Tutor near me in Khor Fakkan

Typing 'IB IGCSE tutor near me' from Khor Fakkan returns a thin list, and everybody here knows why. This is Sharjah's east-coast exclave on the Gulf of Oman, with Kalba to the south, Fujairah city nearby and the emirate's main urban area over the Hajar mountains. This page compares those four options properly - supply, schools, journeys, cost - and then explains why the examination itself is identical on both coasts, which is what makes online teaching the sensible answer here.

IB & IGCSE in Khor Fakkan

Comparing four places when the examination is the same in all of them

Khor Fakkan is a port town on Sharjah's east coast, administratively part of the emirate and physically separated from it by the mountains. Families here comparing tutoring options are really comparing four places: Khor Fakkan itself, Kalba just south, Fujairah city a short drive away, and Sharjah's main urban area on the other side of the range.

Three of those comparisons are about supply and journeys. Khor Fakkan and Kalba have small local markets with general tutoring and no course-specific depth. Fujairah city has more schools and a slightly deeper market, under the federal Ministry of Education rather than Sharjah's authority. Sharjah city has the emirate's deepest tutoring pool, several IB schools, and a journey nobody is making twice a week for a one-hour lesson.

The fourth comparison is the one that matters, and it is not geographic at all. Whatever your address on this coast, your child sits the same paper as a candidate in Al Majaz or Dubai Marina, marked against the same scheme, in the same series. Cambridge runs June and November for UAE candidates; Pearson Edexcel runs May/June and November; the IB's May session is what UAE schools use. There is no east-coast edition of a mark scheme and no local variant of an internal assessment criterion.

That single fact reframes everything. If the examination is fixed and national, then the variable worth optimising is who teaches your child - and the only way to optimise it from Khor Fakkan is to stop filtering by distance. Over live video, a tutor who has taught higher level physics for a decade or marked Cambridge 0620 papers for years is as available here as in the city, at a rate with no journey priced into it.

The cost comparison makes the same point. Across published UAE rate cards, a qualified subject tutor teaching online runs roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour, while an in-home visit is quoted between AED 180 and 500 once travel is absorbed - and on this coast an in-home specialist, if one existed, would sit at the very top of that band. IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE; that service exists only in India.

One qualification before the comparisons. Local general tutoring on this coast is a real and useful service, and for a younger child who needs an adult beside them to stay on task it is the better choice than anything we sell. The comparison below is aimed at families whose problem is course-specific - a criterion, a tier decision, a paper technique - because that is where local supply genuinely cannot help.

What follows compares the four places on the things that genuinely vary, then compares the schooling options an east-coast family actually chooses between, then sets out what is identical wherever you live and a short checklist for deciding.

At a glance

  • Khor Fakkan, Kalba, Fujairah and Sharjah city compared on supply and journeys
  • No IB Diploma provision on this coast, so families travel, board or choose differently
  • Mark schemes, series and criteria are national - there is no local edition
  • In-home rates on this coast would sit at the top of the market band

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Three programmes, each with a different east-coast reality attached. Knowing which your child is on decides whether local help is viable at all.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP 1-5

IB Middle Years Programme

Criterion-assessed with task-specific descriptors issued per task, and no external papers in most subjects. The useful work - reading the descriptors with a student before a task and practising the thing the criterion rewards - needs no local presence and transfers perfectly to video.

East-coast families whose children attend a Middle Years school are usually travelling or boarding already, so weekday capacity is limited. Short, criterion-specific sessions and a weekend morning tend to work better here than two tired weekday evenings.

DPAges 16-19 · DP1-DP2

IB Diploma Programme

Six subjects at higher or standard level, internal assessments marked against published criteria and moderated, plus Theory of Knowledge and an extended essay. The level choice shapes two years of workload, and assessed work cannot be recovered late because deadlines pass.

There is no Diploma provision on this coast, so a Khor Fakkan student on the programme boards or commutes. Course-specific tutoring therefore has to come over video - not as a preference, but because nobody within reach has supervised the component.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge IGCSE and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE

Terminal written papers with published mark schemes, tiered at Cambridge into Core and Extended. Because everything turns on the examination room, timed paper work marked against the published scheme is the activity with the clearest relationship to marks.

UAE candidates sit the June and November series; the February/March Cambridge series is offered in India only. Entries are made by the school's centre, and the centre's administrative zone - not your town - determines which version of the timetable applies.

Subject coverage

IB subjects we tutor

IB subjects first, each noted for what it demands and whether that demand can realistically be met locally on this coast.

Physics

HL and SL

Mechanics and fields, with sign conventions and unstated assumptions costing most of the avoidable marks. Uncertainty treatment in the investigation is the most neglected criterion and among the quickest to coach - and there is nobody on this coast who has supervised it repeatedly.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Energetics, equilibrium and organic mechanisms, with extended responses marked for precision. The investigation's research design decides most of its mark, and that conversation has to happen before the laboratory session rather than after it.

Biology

HL and SL

Content-heavy, so command terms and data questions decide the grade. Statistical treatment in the investigation is the recurring weakness: tests chosen because they are familiar rather than because they answer the question asked.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Proof, algebra and calculus, with method written and justified rather than implied. Higher level is a real step in pace, which matters more for a student whose commute already consumes two hours of the day.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Modelling and statistics with technology expected. Worth checking against degree prerequisites before choosing, since several engineering and mathematics routes expect Analysis and Approaches instead.

Economics

HL and SL

Diagram accuracy and evaluation earn the marks, and higher level adds quantitative work. The commentaries need one syllabus section applied tightly to one article, which is a planning habit rather than a writing one.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Unseen analysis and the individual oral, which is a scheduled event needing rehearsal weeks ahead. The commonest failure is a global issue too broad to anchor in two extracts.

Theory of Knowledge and the extended essay

Core components

Entirely thinking and writing, which makes them the easiest components to support remotely and the ones most likely to slip, because neither sets weekly homework. Fortnightly short check-ins with one named deliverable keep them moving.

IGCSE coverage

IGCSE subjects we tutor

The British-track side of an east-coast household, with the same test applied: is this reachable locally, or does it need a specialist from elsewhere?

Mathematics (0580 / 4MA1)

Core and Extended · Foundation and Higher

The most widely available subject locally, and the one where a competent generalist plus timed past papers gets a disciplined student a long way. Tier decisions and the final block still benefit from somebody who has taught the paper.

Physics (0625 / 4PH1)

Core and Extended · Single tier at Edexcel

The alternative-to-practical paper is the clearest case for specialist help in the British track: it wants named instruments, variables, repeats and sources of error, and it is teachable in three or four sessions.

Chemistry (0620 / 4CH1)

Core and Extended

Mole ratios, electrolysis products and the observation-versus-conclusion problem. The extended paper marks wording strictly, which is a habit a marker-trained tutor fixes quickly and a generalist rarely notices.

Biology (0610 / 4BI1)

Core and Extended

Memorisable content, so marks sit in command words and diagrams. Good value for specialist hours precisely because the knowledge is usually present and the technique is not.

English as a Second Language (0510 / 0511)

With or without speaking endorsement

Common where English is the language of instruction but not of the home. Check whether your child's entry carries the speaking endorsement, since it changes what needs rehearsing and is frequently overlooked.

Business Studies (0450)

Single tier

Case-study papers reward define, apply to the case, evaluate with a judgement. Hard to staff locally at a weekday hour, and straightforward to match nationally over video.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three arrangements that work at this distance, all one-to-one over live video and all starting with a free trial lesson at no cost.

Weekly subject teaching, matched nationally

A fixed slot with a tutor who has taught the exact course and level, working from the school's own subject guide or syllabus document. For an east-coast family this is the only route to course-specific expertise, and the rate carries no travel at either end.

  • Matched on programme, code and level
  • Practice from the correct board's papers
  • Written target list for the next six sessions

Weekend-morning depth sessions

For a student who boards or commutes, the weekday evening is often unusable. A ninety-minute weekend morning session is where assessed work, long papers and extended essay checkpoints actually belong, and it is the most underused slot available on this coast.

  • Ninety minutes, mid-morning
  • Used for assessed work and full papers
  • Replaces rather than adds to weekday sessions

Short check-ins through term

Twenty to thirty minutes, once or twice a week, for a boarding student whose school covers the teaching but not the accountability. Each ends with one named next step and a date, which is what prevents a term drifting unnoticed from a hundred kilometres away.

  • Short, frequent and specific
  • One named deliverable per session
  • Keeps a parent informed without daily interrogation

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Khor Fakkan

01

The four options, compared on what varies

Begin with the honest version. On this coast, local tutoring exists and is general: people who can supervise homework, keep a routine and cover content across several year groups. That is a real service and it suits younger children and students whose problem is discipline rather than direction.

What does not exist locally is course-specific depth. Nobody in Khor Fakkan or Kalba has supervised thirty IB chemistry investigations or marked Cambridge 0620 papers against the published scheme for a decade, because there is no local institution that would have produced that experience. Fujairah city improves the odds slightly and does not change the picture. Sharjah city has those people and is unreachable for a weekday lesson.

The journey arithmetic settles it. The drive from the emirate's main urban area to this coast crosses the Hajar mountains, and a tutor doing it for one lesson is spending a large part of their evening in a car. Nobody runs that arrangement at a sane price, and the in-home band on this coast - if anybody offered it - would sit at the top of the AED 180 to 500 range published across UAE rate cards.

So the comparison resolves to a choice between general help nearby and specific help from anywhere. For homework supervision, choose nearby. For an internal assessment criterion, a tier decision, an alternative-to-practical technique or a final-block triage, choose specific. The table sets out the four places on the dimensions that actually differ.

02

What a mountain range does to an in-home arrangement

  • A journey of that length for one lesson consumes most of an evening
  • The practical result is absence, not a higher price
  • Fujairah-based in-home tutoring exists and is general rather than specialist
  • Online rates contain no travel component at all

It is worth doing the arithmetic rather than asserting the conclusion, because families here are entitled to see the working.

A tutor based in the emirate's main urban area who agrees to teach in Khor Fakkan is committing to a mountain crossing in each direction for a single sixty-minute lesson. Even at generous assumptions, that is most of an evening. A rational tutor prices it accordingly or, far more commonly, declines. The result is not an expensive option; it is an absent one, which is why the local list contains general tutors rather than specialists at a premium.

Fujairah city is close enough to make a short-journey arrangement plausible, and that is where most east-coast in-home tutoring actually comes from. But the pool there is small, and it has the same composition problem: capable generalists, very few people with examination-level experience in a specific course. Paying a travel premium to reach a generalist is the least efficient purchase available.

Against that, published UAE rate cards put a qualified subject tutor teaching online at roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour, with no travel component because nobody travels. Bestimate's Dubai cost estimates, read in October 2026, translate one weekly session into about AED 600 to 1,200 a month with a qualified tutor. Those are market figures for comparison rather than our price list - ask us directly, and the trial lesson costs nothing in any case.

The conclusion is not that distance is irrelevant. It is that distance now costs a family choice of school and informal access to teachers, rather than access to teaching - and those are very different losses with very different remedies.

03

Boarding, commuting or staying local: comparing the schooling decision

Tutoring questions on this coast are usually downstream of a schooling decision, so the comparison is worth making explicitly. Three routes dominate, and each has a different tutoring consequence.

Staying local on another curriculum is the simplest. The child is at home, the week is normal, and the qualification being sat may not be the IB at all. Support must match whatever the school actually enters them for, which makes the first question - which board, which code, which qualification - more important here than anywhere.

Commuting to Fujairah city keeps the family together and consumes the afternoon. Weekday capacity after a long return journey is low, so the realistic pattern is one short weekday session and a weekend morning for anything substantial. Note also the regulator change: Fujairah's private schools are supervised by the federal Ministry of Education, while Khor Fakkan's and Kalba's fall under the Sharjah Private Education Authority, which approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods.

Boarding in the main urban area buys access to IB provision and costs a parent visibility. The school's structure covers weekday evenings, which is an advantage, but a parent a hundred kilometres away sees far less of the work and hears about problems later. For boarding families we ask for the internal deadline calendar and recommend short, frequent check-ins rather than long weekly lessons, because the missing ingredient is accountability rather than teaching.

Whichever route a family takes, the document to ask for is the same: the school's internal deadline calendar, plus the subject guide and any task sheets. Those replace the corridor conversation a city parent has without noticing, and every school holds them already.

04

Two boards, two systems and one set of national rules

An east-coast household frequently runs more than one system, because children were placed in different schools at different times. The comparison between those systems matters more than the comparison between towns.

The IB builds a grade over two years from internal assessments marked against published criteria, core components and terminal papers. The British track decides the grade almost entirely in the examination room, with published mark schemes and, at Cambridge, Core and Extended tiering. The consequence is that IB support needs to be earlier and more continuous, while British-track support can be concentrated into a block before the series with the clearest effect on marks.

What is identical is the administration. Entries for Cambridge and Pearson are made by the school's centre, not by the family. Each Cambridge centre belongs to one of six administrative zones with its own timetable version, and Cambridge states it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an examination after the wrong zone timetable was used - that is a property of the centre, not of your town. Pearson publishes provisional timetables that can be revised, so the live official version is the only one to work from.

Dates worth keeping: Cambridge runs June and November for UAE candidates, with the February/March series offered in India only. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May/June and November; the November final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026, June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students the next day, and the November 2025 series results reached students on 22 January 2026. For the IB, UAE schools sit the May session and we publish no IB dates, because we could not verify them at source - your coordinator holds the confirmed version.

05

Comparing the realistic options for getting help here

Set aside geography for a moment and compare the actual delivery options available to a family in Khor Fakkan. There are five, and they are not interchangeable.

Self-study with honest marking is free and effective for a disciplined British-track candidate: papers and mark schemes exist, and a student who completes a paper under timing and marks it strictly learns most of what a tutor teaches about technique. It does far less for an IB student facing criterion-based assessed work, where the descriptors need interpreting by somebody who has used them.

Local general tutoring supplies presence and routine. A Fujairah-based in-home tutor adds a modest travel premium for the same thing. A group class, where one is available, is the cheapest paid content teaching per student and cannot keep an individual error log or review one student's script - which is most of what matters in a final block.

Online one-to-one with a matched specialist is the only option on this list that does diagnosis, triage, criterion coaching and paper technique for a specific candidate. It is also the only one whose price contains no journey. For most families here the sensible combination is self-study for volume plus a small number of specialist hours for direction, which costs less than a term of weekly local sessions and achieves more.

The one option on that list we cannot provide is supervision. A young child who needs an adult in the room to stay on task is better served by a local arrangement, and we would say so rather than take the booking - we do not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE, since that service exists only in India.

What families here should resist is the middle option that looks reasonable and is not: paying a travel premium to bring a generalist across a distance. It is the most expensive way to buy the cheapest kind of help, and it is the arrangement east-coast families most often end up in by default.

06

What is identical on both coasts

  • Series, timetables and mark schemes are national, not regional
  • Zone timetables belong to the centre, not to your town
  • The MoHRE permit is federal, free and valid for two years
  • Criterion descriptors and command terms are identical everywhere
  • The coursework boundary does not move with distance

Having compared what differs, the longer list is what does not - and this is where the comparison stops being about geography.

The examinations. Cambridge's June and November series, Pearson's May/June and November, the IB's May session. The mark schemes, which have no local editions. The command terms, which mean the same thing in Khor Fakkan as in Al Majaz. The internal assessment criteria and their published descriptors. The three topics in each subject where candidates lose most marks. All national or international, none local.

The permit. Private tutoring in the UAE requires a work permit from the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, introduced under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed individuals, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Those operating without one are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule is published.

The academic-honesty boundary. A tutor may teach, question and give feedback on the student's own work. A tutor may not write, draft or edit assessed coursework, an internal assessment, an extended essay or a Theory of Knowledge essay, and IB Gram sells no completed work of any kind. Services that do appear in these search results at prices in the thousands of dirhams, and the malpractice finding attaches to the student wherever the student lives.

So the only genuinely local variables are the ones this page has already compared: schools, journeys and the depth of the nearby market. Everything that decides a grade is national, which is why we match on the course and let the format take care of the geography.

07

A decision checklist for a family here

Comparisons are only useful if they end in a decision, so here is the sequence we would suggest for a household on this coast.

First, identify the qualification precisely: programme, subject, level, or board, code and tier. In a region where children are placed in different schools for practical reasons, this is genuinely uncertain more often than families expect, and every later decision depends on it. The statement of entry or the school's exam information carries it, and the exams officer can confirm it in one reply.

Second, decide what kind of problem you have. Presence and routine, which local help can supply. Or course-specific technique, criteria and triage, which it cannot. Being honest about this is what prevents paying a travel premium for the wrong service.

Third, get documents in writing, because distance removes the informal channel: the subject guide, task sheets, the internal deadline calendar, and a marked script. Fourth, test rather than argue - a free trial lesson over live video with a specialist, built around that marked script, resolves in an hour what weeks of discussion will not. And fifth, place the session where the student can actually use it, which on this coast usually means a weekend morning for anything substantial.

Sixth, write both of those decisions down somewhere a family can revisit: the qualification and the problem type. Households on this coast make tutoring decisions less often than city families do, and twelve months later nobody remembers why a particular arrangement was chosen - which is how a block bought for one mock quietly becomes a two-year subscription.

Finally, review on evidence rather than on feeling. A marked script at the start and a comparable one six sessions later tells you whether the arrangement is working, and it is the same test wherever you live.

Where we tutor

Four places, compared

The comparison an east-coast family actually makes, with the honest consequence of each option.

Khor Fakkan

Part of Sharjah, on the Gulf of Oman, with a small local tutoring market offering general support rather than course-specific depth. Good for homework supervision, not for an internal assessment criterion.

Kalba

South along the same coast and in the same position: Sharjah-administered, thin local supply, and the same reliance on Fujairah or the main city for schooling choices.

Fujairah city

The nearest urban centre with a real choice of private schools, supervised by the federal Ministry of Education rather than by SPEA. More supply than the coast's towns and still little course-specific IB expertise.

Dibba

Further north on the coast, with an even smaller market. Families there face an identical calculation and usually reach the same conclusion about delivery.

Sharjah city

Across the Hajar mountains, home to the emirate's deepest tutoring pool and its IB schools - and far too distant for any in-home arrangement, however much a family is willing to pay.

Al Dhaid

On the inland route between coasts. A useful marker of the real distances: a tutor based there is not a practical weekday option for either coast.

Dubai

The deepest market in the country, with 387,441 students across 227 private schools offering seventeen curricula recorded in 2024-25. Over video, no harder to reach from here than from Al Nahda.

Schools east-coast families use

With no IB Diploma provision on this coast, families choose between a local school on another curriculum, a commute to Fujairah city, or boarding in the main urban area. Each option changes what tutoring has to do and when it can happen.

  • Our Own English High School, Fujairah
  • Fujairah Private Academy
  • Victoria International School of Sharjah
  • Emirates National School, Sharjah City campus

IB and dual-curriculum schools over the mountains

Reached by boarding or a weekly commute. For these students the critical document is the school's internal deadline calendar, because a parent on the east coast cannot pick up information informally at the gate.

  • The American School of Creative Science, Sharjah
  • Wesgreen International School
  • Ajman Academy
  • Scholars International Academy

Schools are named only as context for the local school ecosystem; no affiliation, endorsement or partnership is implied.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

    Identify the qualification precisely

Programme and level for an IB student; board, syllabus code and tier for a British-track candidate. On this coast children are often placed in schools for practical rather than curricular reasons, so this is worth confirming with the exams officer before anything else.

  2. 02

Ask the school for its documents

Subject guide, task sheets, the internal deadline calendar and the marked script from any mock. A parent here cannot pick up information informally at the school gate, so written documents do that job - and schools supply them on request.

  3. 03

Free trial lesson over live video

A full one-to-one lesson with the tutor who would be assigned, no payment and no card details, built around the marked script where you can send one. You keep the annotated work and a written view of what the remaining weeks can change.

  4. 04

Place the slot where it can be used

For a commuting or boarding student that usually means a weekend morning for substantial work plus short weekday check-ins. We schedule in Gulf Standard Time around the real timetable rather than a notional one, and review at six sessions.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The comparison, published honestly

Local help is good for presence and routine; it cannot supply course-specific technique, and on this coast an in-home specialist is absent rather than expensive. Saying that plainly is more useful than implying we are the only option.

No journey inside the rate

Lessons are one-to-one over live video, so the whole fee buys teaching. Published UAE rate cards put qualified online tutoring at roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour against AED 180 to 500 in-home with travel absorbed - a premium that on this coast would sit at the top of the band.

National pool, local timetable

We match on programme and code across the whole country, then schedule around a commuting or boarding pattern in Gulf Standard Time. The specialist comes from anywhere; the slot fits your actual week.

Documents instead of corridors

Distance removes informal access to teachers, so we ask families here to request the subject guide, task sheets and internal deadline calendar. Those documents exist already and they replace the conversation a city parent has at the gate.

Clear limits

No home visits anywhere in the UAE - that service exists only in India. No grade guarantees, no assessed work written or edited, no distributed board material, no claimed approval from SPEA or any other authority, and no UAE premises.

Is there any realistic chance of an in-home IB specialist in Khor Fakkan?+

Honestly, no. A tutor from the emirate's main urban area would cross the Hajar mountains in each direction for a single lesson, which is most of an evening, so the arrangement is absent rather than merely expensive. Fujairah-based in-home tutoring exists and is general rather than course-specific. IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE in any case - that service exists only in India - and we teach one-to-one over live video, which is what makes a specialist reachable here at all.

How does Khor Fakkan compare with Fujairah city for tutoring?+

Fujairah has more schools and a slightly deeper tutoring market, and it is close enough that an in-home arrangement from there is plausible. What it does not have is course-specific depth: the composition problem is the same, with capable generalists and very few people who have supervised a specific IB internal assessment or marked a particular board's papers for years. So Fujairah improves your school choice more than it improves your tutoring choice.

Do east-coast students sit the same papers as students in Sharjah city?+

Exactly the same. Cambridge runs June and November series for UAE candidates, Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs May/June and November, and UAE schools use the IB's May session. Mark schemes, command terms and internal assessment criteria are national or international - there is no east-coast edition of anything. Entries are made by your school's centre, and the administrative zone that determines which timetable version applies belongs to that centre rather than to your town.

Our child boards in the city. What kind of support actually helps?+

Accountability more than teaching. The school's structure covers weekday evenings, so the gap is usually that a parent a hundred kilometres away hears about problems late. Short, frequent check-ins - twenty to thirty minutes, each ending with one named next step and a date - work better than a long weekly lesson, with a weekend morning reserved for substantial work like an internal assessment or a full paper. We also ask for the school's internal deadline calendar in that situation.

Can a disciplined student here prepare for IGCSE without a tutor?+

A good deal of the way, yes. Past papers and mark schemes exist, and a student who completes a paper under timing and marks it strictly against the scheme learns most of what a tutor teaches about technique. The two failure modes are generous self-marking and avoiding the hardest papers. Where self-study does far less is IB assessed work, because criterion descriptors need interpreting by somebody who has used them, and that is where specialist hours earn their cost.

Which regulator applies to schools in Khor Fakkan?+

The Sharjah Private Education Authority, because Khor Fakkan and Kalba are part of Sharjah. SPEA regulates private education in the emirate and, with Ras Al Khaimah's Department of Knowledge, approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. Fujairah's private schools are supervised by the federal Ministry of Education, so a family whose child attends school there deals with a different authority. IB Gram holds no approval or accreditation from either.

What does tutoring cost here compared with the city?+

Online, exactly the same, because nothing in the rate pays for a journey: published UAE rate cards put a qualified subject tutor teaching online at roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour, and Bestimate's Dubai estimates, read in October 2026, translate a weekly session into about AED 600 to 1,200 a month. In-home is where distance shows: the market band is AED 180 to 500 an hour with travel absorbed, and on this coast it would sit at the top of that range if anybody offered it.

We run both IB and IGCSE in one household. Does that change the plan?+

It changes the timing. The British-track child's marks respond most to a concentrated block of timed papers before the series, because the grade is made in the examination room. The IB child needs hours earlier and spread, since internal assessments and core components cannot be rescued late. Buying identical weekly slots for both is the common default and gets both wrong. We would place consecutive slots on one evening or a shared weekend morning, with separate specialists and separate plans.

How do we judge a local tutor when we cannot easily compare options?+

Ask what they have taught rather than what they studied, and listen for specifics: which board and code, how recently, and the three topics where candidates lose the most marks in that subject. Ask whether they will mark a recent script before the first session. Ask whether they hold the MoHRE private tuition work permit, which is free and valid two years, so there is no good reason not to. None of those questions needs subject knowledge from you.

Is a weekend morning really better than a weekday evening for us?+

For substantial work, almost always, and more so here than in the city. A student returning from Fujairah or boarding in the main urban area has very little usable weekday capacity, and pushing an internal assessment or a full paper into a tired evening produces attendance rather than progress. A ninety-minute weekend morning session - nobody tired, nothing else scheduled - is the most underused hour available on this coast and the one we usually recommend first.

Why do you publish Cambridge dates but no IB dates?+

Because the boards publish theirs and we could verify them, while the IB's own site blocks automated access, so no IB session or results date in this project has been confirmed at source. For a family planning around a commute or a boarding arrangement, a wrong date would be worse than none. UAE schools sit the May session, and your school's coordinator holds the confirmed dates. Cambridge's June and November series and Pearson's published results dates are checkable, so we cite them.

Can you help with the mandatory Arabic and Islamic Education subjects?+

With language and study skills, yes, within limits worth knowing. Private schools must teach Arabic language, social studies and Islamic studies alongside their licensed curriculum, with instructional time counted in forty-minute lesson units and separate classes required for Arabs and non-Arabs in several of those subjects. Content for them is tightly controlled - additional or different material needs prior Ministry permission - so the honest offer is support with the language and with study technique rather than an alternative syllabus.

What will a tutor refuse to do with assessed work?+

Write any part of it. A tutor may read the criteria with the student, question a research question until the available data can answer it, teach the statistics or practical technique required, review a draft and explain which criterion it fails, and model the same move on other material. Writing, redrafting or editing the submitted text is not permitted, and IB Gram sells no completed assessments. The malpractice finding attaches to the student's diploma, which settles it regardless of distance or deadline.

What if nobody is free in our subject at the only hour that works?+

We say so and offer alternatives rather than a substitute: a different hour, a weekend morning, or a named date when a slot opens. Narrow courses sometimes have nobody available, particularly in the weeks before a series. For a family on this coast a generalist substitution is especially costly, because there is no local fallback and nobody nearby to notice the mismatch early - so a clear no, delivered quickly, is worth more than an optimistic yes.

The comparison ends with the examination

Khor Fakkan, Kalba, Fujairah and Sharjah city differ in schools, supply and journeys. They do not differ in the paper your child sits, the scheme it is marked against, or the criteria behind an internal assessment. So identify the qualification precisely, ask the school for the subject guide, task sheets, internal deadline calendar and marked script, and send them to us. We will match a specialist nationally, read the work first, and run a free trial lesson over live video at no cost, scheduled around your real week.
