IB IGCSE Tutor near me in Tilal City

Typing 'IB IGCSE tutor near me' from an address in Tilal City returns a map, and a map is the wrong tool for this job. The question that needs answering is which syllabus your child is on - Middle Years Programme, Diploma Programme, Cambridge IGCSE, Pearson Edexcel - and who has taught that exact course to grade standard. Those people are scattered across the country rather than along the Sharjah-Mleiha road. IB Gram matches on the syllabus and teaches one to one over live video, so a Tilal City family is not limited to whoever is nearest.

  • Matched on programme and syllabus, not on driving distance
  • IB and British-track tutors under one platform for mixed households
  • Free trial lesson, with a recent paper marked beforehand
  • Lessons are online over live video; no UAE home visits

IB & IGCSE in Tilal City

What 'near me' can and cannot give a family in Tilal City

Proximity solves exactly one problem: getting a competent adult into the same room as a teenager, reliably, every week. That is a real problem and it used to be the only one worth solving, which is why 'tutor near me' is still the phrase everybody types. From Tilal City, on the southern Sharjah corridor, the map returns a short list, and the short list is the issue.

What proximity cannot give you is syllabus knowledge. The IB Middle Years Programme assesses against criteria A to D in most subjects, with command terms and task-specific clarifications that a tutor has to have read. The Diploma Programme adds internal assessments, Theory of Knowledge and an extended essay, each with its own rules about what help is permitted. Cambridge IGCSE splits into Core and Extended tiers with different grade ceilings. Pearson Edexcel uses different codes and paper structures again. Those four systems demand four different kinds of expertise, and none of them is distributed by neighbourhood.

The mismatch bites hardest in households running two systems at once, which is common here. An older child in Diploma Programme maths analysis and approaches and a younger one working towards Cambridge 0580 need genuinely different teaching, and a single local generalist hired for convenience will usually be stronger with the younger one and vague with the older. Families discover this in the second term, after a year's budget is committed.

Our answer is to match the syllabus first and remove distance from the equation. Teaching is one-to-one over live video, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time, so a family on the Mleiha road can work with a Diploma Programme chemistry teacher and an Edexcel maths specialist in the same week without either of them driving anywhere. IB Gram does not run home visits in the UAE - that service exists only in India - and saying so plainly is more useful than implying a car is coming.

There is a cost dimension too, and it is worth stating before the detail. An in-home visit on this corridor carries a travel premium that buys travel. Nothing in that premium makes the tutor better at reading a criterion descriptor or at marking a Cambridge paper to its mark scheme. For an address this far from the older tutoring districts, the premium is at the top of the market range, and it is the single largest avoidable line in a family's tutoring budget here.

The rest of this page deals with the practical consequences: how to identify which system your child is actually on, how IB and IGCSE assessment differ in ways that change tutoring, how UAE Ministry of Education equivalency treats each qualification, how the mandatory Arabic and Islamic Education lessons in Sharjah schools shape a weekday timetable, how to verify a tutor's permit, and what we do when nobody suitable is free.

At a glance

  • Four systems, four kinds of expertise: MYP, DP, Cambridge IGCSE, Pearson Edexcel
  • Mixed-board households are normal here and are where local generalists fail first
  • MoE British-track equivalency needs five IGCSE subjects at no less than E or grade 3
  • Arabic, Islamic Education and social studies are timetabled alongside the international curriculum
  • The MoHRE private tuition permit is free, so there is no excuse for a tutor not to hold one
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Three programmes cover almost every Tilal City request. The names overlap confusingly in conversation, so the first job is identifying which one your child is actually registered on - the school report will say, and the exams officer can confirm it.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP 1-5

IB Middle Years Programme

Five years assessed against criteria rather than papers, with achievement levels converted to a 1-7 grade by the school. Because assessment is internal and criterion-based, a student can look secure while being weak at the thing the criteria actually reward: using command terms accurately, structuring an investigation, and justifying a conclusion with the evidence collected rather than with an opinion.

In Sharjah, MYP students sit the same mandatory Arabic, Islamic Education and social studies lessons as every other private-school pupil in the emirate, which compresses the evening. Tutoring that works here is short, criterion-specific and scheduled after the school run rather than open-ended homework supervision.

DPAges 16-19 · DP1-DP2

IB Diploma Programme

Six subjects at higher or standard level, plus Theory of Knowledge, an extended essay and creativity, activity, service. Each subject carries an internal assessment marked against published criteria by letter. The common failure is not subject difficulty but load management: three higher level subjects, an extended essay and an internal assessment all peaking in the same weeks of DP2.

Sharjah has a small number of schools authorised for the Diploma Programme, so Tilal City families with a DP student frequently commute some distance to school. That makes a weekday in-home slot hard to place and an online slot straightforward, which is the practical reason most of our DP work in this emirate is video-based.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge IGCSE and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE

Terminal written examinations, with Cambridge offering Core and Extended tiers and Pearson using its own two-paper structures under codes such as 4MA1 and 4PH1. The grade is decided almost entirely in the examination room, which makes timed past-paper work with mark-scheme marking the highest-value use of tutoring hours in Years 10 and 11.

UAE candidates sit the June and November series; the February/March Cambridge series is offered in India only. Entries are made by the school as part of its centre registration, and each Cambridge centre belongs to one of six administrative zones with its own timetable version, so the only reliable schedule is the one your exams officer issues.

Subject coverage

IB subjects we tutor

IB subjects first, because they are the harder ones to staff locally. Each entry names what the course assesses and where Sharjah students most often drop marks, since that is what decides whether a tutor is the right match.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Proof, calculus and algebraic fluency carry the paper. Students arriving from a strong IGCSE Extended background still struggle with the expectation that method is written out and justified. The internal assessment, a mathematical exploration, needs a question narrow enough to analyse properly - the single most common DP maths problem we are asked to fix.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Modelling, statistics and technology-heavy work. It is not the easy option: the higher level course includes demanding statistical content, and some university engineering routes expect analysis and approaches instead. Choosing between the two is a decision worth making with evidence rather than reputation.

Physics

HL and SL

Mechanics and fields dominate the lost marks, usually through sign conventions and unexamined assumptions in multi-step problems. The internal assessment rewards a controlled variable set and honest uncertainty treatment far more than an ambitious topic, which is where tutoring saves the most time.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Energetics, equilibrium and organic mechanisms are the recurring difficulties, and higher level adds depth rather than breadth. Precision of language in extended responses decides a surprising share of marks - naming an observation rather than stating a conclusion, as at IGCSE, only more strictly.

Biology

HL and SL

A content-heavy course where the grade turns on command terms and on data-based questions. Students who revise by rereading notes plateau; students who answer past data questions under time and check against the mark scheme move. Statistical treatment in the internal assessment is a common weak point.

Economics

HL and SL

Diagram accuracy and evaluation are the mark earners. Higher level adds quantitative work that catches students who chose the subject expecting essays only. The three commentaries require a current article and disciplined application of one section of the syllabus, not a general discussion of the news.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Unseen textual analysis and the individual oral carry the grade. The oral fails when the global issue is too broad to anchor in two extracts. Practice here is structural: choosing the issue, selecting the extracts, and rehearsing to the time limit with the criteria visible.

English B

HL and SL

Taken by many Sharjah students who are fluent but not first-language English users. The productive skills are coachable to a formula: register, text type conventions, and a paper 1 task that must match its audience. Listening practice is routinely neglected and routinely costs marks.

Business Management

HL and SL

Tools such as the business management toolkit must be applied to the case, not described. The internal assessment needs a real organisation and genuine data, which is where students in a hurry create problems for themselves that no amount of writing skill repairs.

IGCSE coverage

IGCSE subjects we tutor

The British-track side of a mixed household, with the codes that decide which tutor fits. Ask your child's school for the code if the report does not show it; it takes one email and it changes the match.

Mathematics (0580 / 4MA1)

Core and Extended · Foundation and Higher

Most requested subject in Years 10 and 11 across Sharjah. Bounds, rearrangement under time pressure and multi-step problems abandoned early are the standard mark losses, and all three respond to timed papers with immediate marking rather than to topic revision.

Physics (0625 / 4PH1)

Core and Extended · Single tier at Edexcel

Electricity and graph-gradient work account for most of the gap between a 6 and an 8. The alternative-to-practical paper rewards students who can narrate a method, which is a skill a tutor can teach deliberately in three or four sessions.

Chemistry (0620 / 4CH1)

Core and Extended

Mole ratios, electrolysis products and the precise language of observations. The extended paper marks wording strictly, so a student who knows the chemistry can still lose marks by writing loosely about what they saw.

Biology (0610 / 4BI1)

Core and Extended

Memorisable content, so the marks sit in command words and diagram work. Transport in plants, genetic crosses and experimental design questions are where tutoring earns its hour.

English as a Second Language (0510 / 0511)

With or without speaking endorsement

Widely taken in Sharjah schools where English is the language of instruction but not of the home. Note-making, summary word limits and register shifts are formulaic enough to coach precisely.

Additional Mathematics (0606)

Single tier

The bridge subject for students heading to A Level mathematics or a higher level IB maths course. Calculus notation and radian work expose the gap early, and it is a hard subject to staff locally at a weekday hour.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Mixed-board households need more than one shape of support, often at the same time. These three cover it, all one-to-one over live video and all beginning with a free trial lesson.

Two children, two systems, one schedule

Separate specialists for each child - a Diploma Programme subject teacher for the older, a Cambridge or Edexcel tutor for the younger - with their slots placed back to back so one evening covers both. Parents get one point of contact and two written plans.

  • Consecutive slots on the same evening where you want them
  • Separate written plans so progress is visible per child
  • One review conversation covering both students

Internal assessment and coursework coaching

Structured sessions on the student's own work: reading the criteria together, narrowing a research question, planning the data, and reviewing drafts against the published descriptors. The tutor explains and questions. The student writes every word.

  • Criteria read and applied in the first session, not the last
  • Feedback against published descriptors by letter
  • No drafting, rewriting or editing of assessed work by the tutor

Paper-led exam preparation

For IGCSE candidates and DP students alike, the final stretch is timed papers marked to the official mark scheme, with an error log by question type. Content teaching stops; diagnosis and repetition take over.

  • Full papers under exam timing
  • Marked against the board's own mark scheme
  • Error log reviewed every third session

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Tilal City

01

First, work out which syllabus your child is actually on

  • IB report language: criteria A-D, achievement levels, subject level HL or SL
  • British-track evidence: a syllabus code on the statement of entry
  • Transitions - IGCSE to DP, MYP to Year 10 - need system coaching, not more content
  • A tutor who does not ask for the code is not going to use it

A surprising number of enquiries from this corridor begin with a sentence that does not identify the course: 'she's in Year 11 doing sciences', 'he's in grade 10 IB'. Neither is enough to match a tutor, and both are easy to resolve. The school report names the programme. For IB, it will say Middle Years Programme or Diploma Programme and give criterion grades or subject levels. For the British track, there is a code - 0580, 0620, 4MA1, 4PH1 - on the statement of entry or in the exam information the school circulates.

The distinction matters because the teaching is different in kind, not degree. A Middle Years student is assessed against criteria by letter, with task-specific descriptors, and good tutoring there means practising against those descriptors. A Cambridge IGCSE candidate is assessed by terminal papers, and good tutoring means timed papers marked to a mark scheme. A Diploma student needs both: internal assessment coaching against criteria and paper technique for the terminal examinations.

There is a third case, common in Sharjah: a student moving between systems. A Year 11 IGCSE candidate heading into the Diploma Programme faces a genuine step in independent writing and in mathematical justification. A Middle Years student entering Year 10 at a British-curriculum school meets terminal examinations for the first time. Both transitions benefit from a few sessions aimed at the new system's demands rather than at subject content, and both are usually left until the first disappointing report.

Send the programme and the code when you contact us. It takes a line, and it is the difference between a tutor who starts teaching in session one and a tutor who spends three sessions working out what the course requires.

02

How IB and IGCSE assessment differ, and why one tutor rarely covers both

The two systems reward different behaviour. IGCSE grades are decided almost entirely in the examination room, on papers with predictable question styles and published mark schemes. Preparation is therefore repetitive and measurable: do the paper, mark it honestly, log the error type, repeat. A student can lift an IGCSE grade substantially in eight weeks without learning much new content, purely by learning what the examiner rewards.

IB grades are built over two years. Internal assessments carry a defined share of the subject grade and are marked against criteria by letter, with the school marking and the IB moderating. An extended essay and Theory of Knowledge sit outside subject teaching and contribute points of their own. The work is less recoverable late, because deadlines pass and cannot be re-sat, which changes what tutoring is for: it is scheduling and standards as much as teaching.

That difference explains why a single local tutor hired for both children usually disappoints one of them. Someone fluent in mark-scheme marking for Cambridge papers may never have read an internal assessment criterion. Someone who has supervised Diploma internal assessments may be rusty on the mechanics of a tiered Core and Extended entry. Neither is a bad tutor; they are differently specialised, and the specialisation is invisible on a listing that says 'maths and science, all levels'.

The table below sets out the differences that actually change a tutoring plan. It is worth reading before you book anybody, local or online, because it tells you what to ask them.

03

Why distance stops being the useful filter in southern Sharjah

In a dense district, filtering by distance is a rough but workable proxy for availability: there are enough tutors nearby that some of them will be good. Tilal City does not have that density, and neither do the communities around it. Filter to a twenty-minute radius and the list is short; filter again to a single programme and subject and it frequently empties.

The arithmetic is worth making explicit. A Diploma Programme chemistry teacher is a rarer person than a maths graduate. Sharjah has a limited number of schools authorised for the Diploma Programme, so the pool of adults in this emirate who have taught DP chemistry is small, and the subset willing to drive to the Mleiha corridor at six o'clock on a Tuesday is smaller still. Requiring both proximity and specialism usually means accepting neither.

Travel also costs money that buys nothing academic. In-home visits in the Sharjah market are quoted between roughly AED 180 and 500 an hour once the drive is absorbed, against roughly AED 150 to 300 for a qualified subject tutor teaching online. The difference is a car, not better teaching, and for an address this far out the premium sits at the top of the range.

So the sensible filter is the syllabus. Match on programme, subject and level, pick from the whole country, and solve the presence problem with video rather than with a windscreen. That is what we do: lessons one to one, online, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time, with no tutor travelling to any UAE address.

04

Equivalency: what the UAE Ministry of Education asks of each qualification

Families in Sharjah planning a UAE university application eventually meet the equivalency process, and it is poorly explained almost everywhere. For the British track, the published requirement is five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates with a grade of no less than E or grade 3, plus one accredited subject at Advanced Level at no less than E, or two accredited subjects at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are not counted among the five required subjects.

That five-subject rule is worth repeating because a ranking competitor page states UAE candidates must take six IGCSE subjects, which is wrong and could change a family's subject choices for no reason. For the American track, the published requirements include an English proficiency score of 5 in the IELTS academic test, 61 in the TOEFL iBT, or 450 in the reading and writing section of the SAT, and at least 450 in SAT mathematics.

For the IB Diploma there is no points figure published in the source material available to us, and we will not invent one. If your child is on the Diploma Programme and you need the equivalency threshold, read it on the Ministry of Education's own site or ask the emirate attestation authority directly. A tutoring page is not a source for a regulatory number that affects a university application.

Two further points of hygiene. Equivalency is a process families complete themselves through the official channel; IB Gram does not perform it, guarantee it or speed it up, and nobody who offers to should be trusted with it. And tutoring is not a requirement for equivalency, university admission or school progression - any page implying otherwise is manufacturing urgency.

The mandatory subjects nobody factors into the evening timetable

  • Arabic, Islamic Education and social studies run alongside the international programme
  • Separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs are required in several of these subjects
  • Instructional time is counted in forty-minute units
  • Additional or different content needs prior Ministry permission
  • Plan tutoring around the real timetable load, not around an empty evening

Private schools in the UAE are not obliged to follow a specific national curriculum beyond Arabic language, social studies and Islamic studies, but they must adhere to the Ministry's general regulations. That federal baseline is why your child's international programme shares its week with lessons that have nothing to do with the Diploma Programme or Cambridge.

Dubai's regulator publishes the most detailed version of these requirements, and it is instructive even for Sharjah families because the federal baseline is the same. Arabic, Islamic Education and social and moral studies are mandatory regardless of the licensed curriculum. Schools must organise separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and social studies, and combined classes for both groups are prohibited because the curriculum expectations and language of instruction differ. Instructional time is calculated in forty-minute lesson units, with schools able to vary lesson length provided weekly totals are met.

For a parent, this has two consequences. The first is timetable load: an international curriculum plus mandatory subjects fills the day, and an evening tutoring slot competes with homework for both. Short, specific sessions beat long general ones here. The second is that the mandatory subjects themselves sometimes need support, particularly for students who arrived in the UAE mid-school and are placed in Arabic as an additional language several years behind their year group.

Where we can help with those subjects we say so, and where we cannot we say that too. Content for the mandatory subjects is tightly controlled - using different or additional content without prior permission from the Ministry is prohibited - so the honest offer is support with language and study skills rather than an alternative syllabus.

06

Checking that a tutor is legally permitted to teach in the UAE

This is the question families most often skip and most easily ask. Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit. The private tutor work permit was introduced under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, it is issued by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, and it is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, university students, and school students aged 15 to 18.

Because the permit is free and the application takes about two working days through MoHRE's own 'Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing' service, a tutor who works regularly has no practical reason not to hold one. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule is published, and anybody quoting you a figure is guessing.

A second check is worth making. Do not arrange tuition with your child's own class teacher. Abu Dhabi's regulator has published professional-ethics rules prohibiting private and charter school staff from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit's code of conduct points the same way. Press-reported rules should be verified against the current policy document, but the direction of travel is unambiguous and the conflict of interest is obvious even without a rule.

On our own position, plainly: IB Gram is a tutor-matching platform and holds no approval, licence or accreditation from any UAE education authority. A tutoring operation with premises and staff in Dubai needs a specific educational services permit for a training institute; we do not run premises here, and we do not describe ourselves as approved by anybody. Treat any service claiming regulator approval as a claim to be evidenced.

Scheduling around the school run, Ramadan and the exam term

A tutoring plan that ignores the calendar fails quietly. For a Tilal City family, the weekday constraint is the drive home from school, which for an IB student can be long because Diploma provision in this emirate is concentrated in a few schools. A slot that starts when the student walks in is realistic; one that assumes a tutor has also finished their own commute is not.

Ramadan reshapes the week rather than pausing it. School days shorten, afternoons are low-energy, and families commonly move sessions to after Iftar or to late morning at the weekend. Diploma Programme students with internal assessment deadlines in that period need the plan rewritten in advance, not improvised in week two. Because our teaching is online, a slot can move by two hours without anybody renegotiating a journey.

The exam term has its own shape. For IGCSE candidates, the final eight to ten weeks should be timed papers, marked against the published mark scheme, with the error log deciding what gets reviewed. For Diploma students, the same weeks are usually a collision between internal assessment deadlines and examination revision, and the useful intervention is sequencing: finish the assessed work, then free the revision time, rather than doing both badly in parallel.

Where a specialist is not available at the hour you need - a common problem for narrow subjects at peak season - we tell you rather than filling the slot. A clear answer about availability lets a family make another plan; a vague one costs them a term.

08

Coursework help that is actually permitted

Both systems a Tilal City household might be running carry assessed work that must be the student's own, and both treat breaches as malpractice. The permitted zone is wide and worth knowing, because families who do not know where the line sits either over-ask or avoid asking for help they are entitled to.

A tutor may explain the criteria, question a research question until it is answerable, suggest how to collect usable data, teach the statistics the investigation needs, read a draft and say that the evaluation does not address the criterion, and model the same move on a different piece of work. A tutor may not write, draft, rewrite or edit any part of the submitted work, supply a topic with the analysis already done, or produce text the student then adapts.

IB Gram does not sell completed internal assessments, extended essays, Theory of Knowledge essays or coursework of any kind. This needs saying because the search results for these queries include operations that do, at prices in the thousands of dirhams, and the consequence of using one falls on the student as a malpractice finding rather than on the seller. Nor do we distribute boards' syllabus documents, past papers or mark schemes as downloads; those belong to the boards and the school is the proper route to the current version.

The practical form this takes in a lesson is unglamorous. We read the criteria in the first session, agree what evidence the student needs to produce, and set deadlines earlier than the school's. Most assessed-work problems are scheduling problems wearing a writing-quality costume.

Where we tutor

Where Tilal City families look, and what each option really costs them

A search for a tutor near Tilal City quickly becomes a search across half of Sharjah. These are the areas the map offers, with the honest consequence of choosing each.

Muwaileh

The closest concentration of schools and tutors. Supply is real but weighted towards generalists and group classes, and the afternoon traffic out towards Mleiha turns an advertised 4pm start into something later.

University City

Where most budget tutoring in southern Sharjah originates. University students are permitted to hold the private tuition work permit, and some are excellent, but few have taught an IB internal assessment or a full IGCSE paper series.

Aljada

Central, dense and well served by schools, which is why rate quotes circulating from here assume a short journey. Applied to a Tilal City address, the same tutor's rate usually rises to cover the drive.

Al Zahia

A near neighbour with the same demographic pattern: recent arrivals, thin word-of-mouth, and a surge of Year 10 and 11 requests in the second term when mock results land.

Al Majaz

The long-established tutoring district by the lagoon. Deeper supply, including some genuine subject specialists, but a thirty-minute drive each way that somebody pays for in either money or lesson punctuality.

Al Taawun

Close to the Dubai boundary and popular with families whose children attend Dubai schools. The cross-border commute pushes the realistic start of a weekday session past five o'clock.

Al Qasimia

Central Sharjah with a mature mix of Indian and British curriculum schools. Exam-term demand peaks here in the same fortnight as in Tilal City, which is when local availability disappears.

Sharjah Garden City

On the same southern corridor, with the same arithmetic: a short local list, few single-subject specialists, and online as the only route to a Diploma Programme subject teacher.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Tilal City

IB provision reachable from Tilal City

Diploma and Middle Years provision in this emirate is concentrated in a few schools, so IB families here travel further to school than British-curriculum families do. That single fact is why in-home weekday slots are hard to place for a DP student and why most of our Sharjah IB teaching happens over video.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Name the programme and the code

Tell us whether the student is on the Middle Years Programme, the Diploma Programme, Cambridge IGCSE or Pearson Edexcel, and give the subject level or syllabus code. For a mixed household, send both children's details in the same message so the slots can be planned together.

  2. 02

We mark something before we meet

Where you can send a recent mock, paper or piece of assessed work, the matched tutor marks it in advance. The free trial lesson then starts from evidence - which topics are costing marks, which criterion is weak - rather than from introductions and reassurance.

  3. 03

Fix the slot around the real timetable

We schedule in Gulf Standard Time around the school run, mandatory Arabic and Islamic Education lessons, and any Ramadan or travel pattern you tell us about. For two children, slots usually run consecutively on one evening so a parent is not supervising on four nights.

  4. 04

Review on marks, change the tutor if needed

At six sessions we look at scores on timed work and at criterion feedback, not at effort. A wrong match is replaced without restarting the plan. If no specialist is free for a narrow subject at your hour, we say so plainly instead of substituting a generalist.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

One platform for a two-system household

A Diploma Programme student and an IGCSE candidate under the same roof need different specialists. Matching both through one platform means two written plans, one contact and one review conversation, rather than two separate arrangements that never align with the school calendar.

The syllabus is the filter, not the map

We match on programme, subject and level first. For southern Sharjah that is the only way to reach a subject specialist at all, because the local pool within a short drive of Tilal City is small and weighted towards generalists.

Honest about delivery

All UAE lessons are one-to-one over live video. IB Gram does not run home visits in the UAE; that service exists only in India. You will not book expecting a car and discover a video call.

The equivalency rules, the permit position and the mandatory-subject requirements on this page come from official UAE sources, and where a figure is not published - the IB equivalency threshold - we say so instead of filling the gap with a guess.

Assessed work stays the student's own

Tutors teach, question and give feedback against published criteria. They do not write or edit assessed work, and we do not sell it. That boundary protects the student, which is the only party who carries the consequence of crossing it.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Tilal City: your questions answered

Does a tutor near me in Tilal City actually matter more than subject expertise?+

Proximity solves attendance; expertise decides the grade. In a dense district you can often have both, but Tilal City sits on the southern Sharjah corridor where the local pool is small and weighted towards generalists. Filter by distance and then by programme and subject, and the list frequently empties. Our view is to match on syllabus and solve attendance with live video, which is why we teach one-to-one online and do not send anybody to a UAE address. The free trial lesson exists so you can test that this works for your child before committing.

Can one tutor handle both my IB and my IGCSE child?+

Occasionally, and only when the subject is the same and the tutor has genuinely taught both systems. The two reward different work: IGCSE is terminal papers marked to a published mark scheme, while IB adds criterion-marked internal assessment over two years. A tutor fluent in one often has never read a criterion descriptor or never timed a Cambridge paper. We would rather give you two specialists with consecutive slots on the same evening than one compromise who is strong with one child and vague with the other.

How do I find out which syllabus and code my child is entered for?+

The school report names the programme - Middle Years Programme, Diploma Programme, or a year group on the British track. For Cambridge or Pearson, there is a code on the statement of entry or in the exam information the school circulates: 0580 and 0620 are Cambridge, 4MA1 and 4CH1 are Pearson Edexcel. If neither document is to hand, the exams officer can confirm it in one email. Send us that code and the subject level, and the match is made on evidence rather than on a guess about what Year 11 usually means.

What are the UAE equivalency requirements for a British-curriculum student?+

The published British-track requirement is five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at a grade of no less than E or grade 3, plus one accredited Advanced Level subject at no less than E or two Advanced Subsidiary subjects at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are not counted among the five. One ranking tutoring site states six subjects are needed, which is incorrect. Verify your own case on the Ministry of Education's site or with the emirate attestation authority - equivalency is a process families complete themselves, and no tutoring service performs it for you.

Is there an IB equivalency points score I should be working towards?+

Not one we will publish. The sources available to us carry the British and American track requirements in detail but no IB Diploma points threshold, and an unsourced number on a tutoring page could change a family's university plans for the worse. Read it on the Ministry of Education's own site, or ask your school's IB coordinator, who deals with this annually for a whole cohort. Treat any tutoring site that quotes a confident IB figure without a government source with the scepticism you would apply to any other unsourced claim about your child's future.

Which exam series do Sharjah students sit, and what about resits?+

Cambridge runs June and November series, and UAE candidates sit those two - the February/March series is offered in India only. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May/June and November. November is the standard resit route for a June candidate. For Pearson, the November final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026 and results from that series reach students in January; the November 2025 cohort received theirs on 22 January 2026. Use the timetable your school's exams officer issues, since each Cambridge centre belongs to one of six zones.

Do the mandatory Arabic and Islamic Education lessons affect tutoring time?+

Yes, more than most families expect. Private schools must teach Arabic language, social studies and Islamic studies alongside their licensed international curriculum under federal regulations, and schools organise separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs in several of those subjects. Instructional time is counted in forty-minute units. The practical effect is a full school day and homework across two curricula, so an evening tutoring slot needs to be short and specific. We also support Arabic as an additional language where a student arrived mid-school and sits well below their year group.

How much does one-to-one IB or IGCSE tuition cost in Sharjah?+

Across published UAE rate cards, budget online tutoring starts around AED 45 an hour, a qualified subject tutor teaching online runs roughly AED 150 to 300, an in-home visit is quoted between AED 180 and 500 once travel is absorbed, and named or examiner-branded tutoring reaches AED 500 to 650 and above. Bestimate's Dubai cost estimates, read in October 2026, put one weekly session at AED 600 to 1,200 a month with a qualified tutor. Those are market figures for comparison; ask us for ours and start with the free trial lesson.

What internal assessment help may a tutor give a Tilal City student?+

With the thinking, the criteria and the feedback - yes, and early help is the useful kind. A tutor can narrow a research question until it is answerable, teach the statistics an investigation needs, read a draft and explain which criterion is not being met, and model the same move on a different task. A tutor cannot write, redraft or edit the submitted work. IB Gram does not sell completed internal assessments, extended essays or Theory of Knowledge essays. The consequence of buying one lands on the student as a malpractice finding, not on the seller.

Does somebody tutoring in Tilal City need a MoHRE permit, and can I verify it?+

Ask whether they hold the MoHRE private tuition work permit, introduced under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. It is free of charge, valid two years, and issued through MoHRE's own private tutor licensing service in about two working days, so a working tutor has no practical reason to be without one. Those operating without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no fine schedule is published, so ignore any figure quoted at you. Also avoid arranging tuition with your child's own class teacher - that conflict is explicitly discouraged.

Why is Diploma Programme tutoring harder to find locally than IGCSE tutoring?+

Because the teaching population is smaller. Sharjah has a limited number of schools authorised for the Diploma Programme, so the number of adults in this emirate who have taught a specific DP subject to final-grade standard is low, and the number willing to drive to the Mleiha corridor on a weekday evening is lower still. British-curriculum provision is far broader, which is why local lists are thicker for IGCSE. Teaching over video dissolves the problem by letting a Tilal City family work with a DP subject teacher wherever that person happens to live.

What happens during Ramadan and the school holidays?+

Sessions move rather than stop. School days shorten during Ramadan and afternoons are low-energy, so families commonly shift lessons to after Iftar or to late morning at the weekend; because the lesson is online, moving it by two hours costs nothing. Holidays are often the best time for transition work - an IGCSE candidate heading into the Diploma Programme, or a Middle Years student meeting terminal examinations for the first time - because there is time to teach the new system's demands without competing with term-time homework.

My child says they will not learn from a screen. What do we do?+

Test it rather than argue about it. The free trial lesson is one-to-one, with a shared screen and a writing tablet so the tutor can work through a problem rather than talk at a camera, and most students who object are picturing a recorded class or a group webinar. Some genuinely do better in a room, and for those families the honest answer is that IB Gram does not provide UAE home visits, so a local arrangement may suit them better. We would rather you found that out in a free trial than after a term.

What if no tutor is available for the subject and time we need?+

We tell you. Narrow requests - Additional Mathematics 0606, a specific board's business studies paper, a higher level language at a peak evening hour - sometimes have no specialist free, especially in the weeks before a series. The alternatives we will offer are a different time with the right specialist, or a wait with a named date. What we will not do is put a generalist in the slot and let a family spend six weeks finding out. A clear no is worth more than an optimistic yes.

Send the programme, the subject and the level

The search that brought you here asks about distance. The question that gets your child a better grade asks about syllabus. Send us the programme - Middle Years, Diploma, Cambridge IGCSE, Pearson Edexcel - the subject and the level or code, and for a mixed household send both children in one message. We will match a specialist to each, mark a recent paper or draft before you meet, and run a free trial lesson over live video. Teaching for Tilal City families is one-to-one and online, timed to Gulf Standard Time, and scheduled around your school run rather than around anybody's drive.
