IGCSE Home Tutor in Tilal City

A parent searching for an IGCSE home tutor in Tilal City is usually asking one narrower question: is there anybody within driving distance who has actually taught the paper my child is sitting? Tilal City sits on the Sharjah-Mleiha road, away from the older tutoring belt around Al Majaz, and the honest answer is that the nearby pool of people who have marked or taught Cambridge 0580 or Edexcel 4MA1 to grade standard is thin. IB Gram answers the question a different way: one-to-one lessons over live video, with a tutor matched to the exact board your child's school entered them for.

  • One-to-one lessons over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time
  • Tutor matched to the board on your child's statement of entry
  • A free trial lesson before any payment is taken
  • No tutor is sent to a UAE address; delivery is online only

IB & IGCSE in Tilal City

Is there anyone near Tilal City who actually knows the IGCSE syllabus?

Tilal City is a planned residential district on the Sharjah-Mleiha corridor, and most of its families moved in recently. That matters for tutoring in a way nobody writes about: the informal network a parent relies on in an older neighbourhood - the neighbour whose daughter used the same chemistry tutor, the WhatsApp group with three names in it - has not had time to form here. So the search starts cold, on Google, with the words 'IGCSE home tutor in Tilal City'.

The literal version of that search has a short answer. There are tutors who will drive out to the Tilal City villas. Most of them are generalists: a graduate who can cover maths across several year groups, a science teacher who knows biology well and physics approximately, somebody who learned the Indian or American curriculum and is now reading an IGCSE syllabus for the first time. A smaller number know one board and one subject to examination depth, and those people are almost never within a twenty-minute drive of any particular address. They are wherever they happen to live.

This is the part worth being blunt about. A Year 11 student who needs Cambridge Chemistry 0620 Paper 4 does not need a chemistry tutor in general. They need somebody who knows that the extended paper asks for ionic half-equations with state symbols, that the examiner wants the word 'anhydrous' rather than 'dry', and that a candidate loses the mark for describing a test for a gas without naming what the positive result looks like. Geography cannot supply that. Subject depth and postcode are unrelated variables, and treating them as the same thing is why so many families pay for a term and see nothing move.

IB Gram works the other way round. We match on the board, the syllabus code and the paper, then deliver the lesson over live video so the match is not limited by the Mleiha road at five o'clock. A Tilal City family gets the tutor who has taught 0620 Paper 4 for years, not the tutor who lives closest to Tilal City. Lessons are online, one to one, and scheduled around the school day rather than around traffic.

One more thing is worth saying before the detail. Nobody on this corridor should pay a premium rate for general revision. If a tutor cannot name, in the first session, the three topics that are costing your child the most marks, you are funding diagnosis rather than teaching, and diagnosis should take one marked paper and twenty minutes of a specialist's time.

What follows is the detail a parent needs to make that decision properly: what in-home tutoring actually costs in this part of Sharjah, five questions that reveal within two minutes whether a tutor knows the syllabus, where marks are genuinely lost in the subjects Sharjah candidates struggle with, how the Cambridge and Pearson exam routes work for a candidate in this emirate, what SPEA does and does not regulate, and the line a tutor must not cross with coursework.

At a glance

  • Delivery is online, one to one, over live video - IB Gram does not run home visits anywhere in the UAE
  • Matching is by syllabus code first: 0580, 0606, 0620, 0625, 4MA1, 4PH1
  • Market in-home rates in Sharjah carry a travel premium that buys travel, not subject depth
  • UAE candidates sit the June and November Cambridge series; the February/March series is offered in India only
  • A tutor may teach, question and give feedback on coursework - never write any part of it
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Tilal City children attend schools running three overlapping British-track stages. Knowing which stage your child is in, and which board their school has entered them for, decides what a tutor should be doing in week one.

LSECAges 11-14 · Years 7-9

Cambridge Lower Secondary

The three years before IGCSE choices are made. Content is broad and assessment is internal, which is exactly why weakness hides here: a student can pass school tests on topic-by-topic recall and arrive in Year 10 unable to rearrange an equation or write a conclusion that refers to evidence. Algebraic fluency, unit handling and structured scientific writing are the three things worth fixing at this stage, because Year 10 assumes all three.

In Sharjah this stage often runs alongside the mandatory Arabic, Islamic Education and social studies lessons that every private school in the emirate must timetable under federal rules. Families new to Tilal City are frequently surprised by the timetable load, and it is a reason evening tutoring slots here need to be short and specific rather than long and general.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge IGCSE

A two-year course assessed by terminal written papers, with Core and Extended tiers in most subjects. Core caps the available grade; Extended carries the harder paper and the full grade range. The decision between them is usually made in Year 10 on the basis of one set of mock results, and it is reversible for longer than most parents are told. Grades run 9 to 1 or A* to G depending on the subject's reporting scale.

Sharjah candidates are entered by their school as part of a Cambridge centre, and every centre sits in one of six administrative zones with its own version of the timetable. Cambridge states plainly that it cannot accept responsibility for a candidate who misses an exam because the wrong zone timetable was used, so the only timetable worth reading is the one the school's exams officer issues.

4MA1Ages 14-16 · Years 10-11

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE

The other British-track route, with its own codes - 4MA1 for maths, 4PH1 for physics, 4CH1 for chemistry - and its own paper structures. Edexcel maths uses two equally weighted papers rather than a four-paper tiered pattern, and its Higher tier covers content a Cambridge Core candidate never sees. A tutor who has only taught Cambridge will mislead an Edexcel student about what the question style demands, which is why we ask for the code before the subject.

Pearson runs International GCSE in May/June and November each year. The November final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026, and results from that November series reach students in January - the November 2025 series results landed with students on 22 January 2026. Always work from the live official timetable your school confirms rather than a date copied off a tutoring page.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the subjects Tilal City and wider Sharjah families ask for most often, with the syllabus codes that decide which tutor is the right one. The code is the request; the subject name on its own is not.

Mathematics (Cambridge 0580 / Edexcel 4MA1)

Core and Extended · Foundation and Higher

The most requested subject on this corridor. Marks go on algebraic manipulation under time pressure, on bounds and rounding, and on multi-step problems where candidates stop one operation early. Tutoring works best when it is paper-timed from the start rather than topic-by-topic revision that never meets a clock.

Additional Mathematics (Cambridge 0606)

Single tier

Taken by students heading for A Level Mathematics or an IB higher level course. Calculus notation, radian work and the factor theorem are where the gap between a confident 0580 candidate and a comfortable 0606 candidate shows up, usually in the first term.

Physics (Cambridge 0625 / Edexcel 4PH1)

Core and Extended · Single tier at Edexcel

Electricity, moments and anything involving a graph gradient account for most lost marks. Candidates can recite definitions and still fail to extract a value from a distance-time graph. Practical-style questions on the alternative-to-practical paper reward students who have actually handled apparatus, so a tutor needs to narrate method, not just equations.

Chemistry (Cambridge 0620 / Edexcel 4CH1)

Core and Extended

Mole calculations, electrolysis products and organic reaction conditions are the recurring three. The extended paper wants precise language - state symbols, 'anhydrous', the observation rather than the conclusion - and candidates who write loosely lose marks they understood perfectly well.

Biology (Cambridge 0610 / Edexcel 4BI1)

Core and Extended

The content is memorisable, so the marks are lost in command words. 'Describe' and 'explain' are different instructions, and a candidate who answers both the same way caps at about half the available marks on long-answer questions. Transport in plants and genetics crosses need diagram practice, not reading.

Coordinated Sciences (Cambridge 0654)

Double award

Three sciences compressed into two grades. Students who chose it to lighten the load often discover the physics content is the same difficulty with less teaching time. Tutoring here is triage: find which of the three strands is dragging and work only on that.

First Language English (Cambridge 0500)

Single tier

Directed writing and the two reading passages decide the grade. Students lose marks by summarising when the question asks for analysis of effect, and by writing in an unvaried register across both papers. Timed writing with annotation of the mark scheme moves this subject faster than almost any other.

English as a Second Language (Cambridge 0510 / 0511)

Reading and writing · with or without speaking endorsement

Common in Sharjah schools where English is the language of instruction but not the home language. The exercises are formulaic enough to be coached precisely: note-making, summary word counts, and the register shift between an email to a friend and a report for a head teacher.

Economics and Business Studies (Cambridge 0455 / 0450)

Single tier

Case-study papers reward structure over content. A candidate who defines, applies to the case, then evaluates with a judgement outscores one who writes everything they know. Diagram accuracy in economics - axes labelled, shift arrows drawn - is a cheap source of marks that schools often leave to the student.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three shapes of support cover almost every request that comes in from this corridor. All three are delivered one to one over live video, and all three start with a free trial lesson so the match is tested before a term is booked.

Weekly one-to-one with the same tutor

A fixed slot each week with one tutor who holds the thread across the two-year course. This is the shape that works for a student who is coping but underperforming: the tutor sees the pattern in their errors over months rather than diagnosing from scratch each session.

  • Same tutor, same time, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time
  • Written note after each lesson naming the next target
  • Review at six sessions, with a change of tutor if the fit is wrong

Exam-term intensive block

A shorter, denser run of sessions in the weeks before a series, built entirely around past papers under timed conditions. The tutor marks to the official mark scheme, so the student learns what the examiner rewards rather than what feels like a reasonable answer.

  • Two or three sessions a week through the final weeks
  • Every session ends with a timed question set
  • Marking against the published mark scheme, not a tutor's impression

Single-topic repair

A small number of sessions aimed at one named weakness - electrolysis, moments, bounds, directed writing. Families use this when the school report is broadly fine but one topic keeps costing grades. It is deliberately finite and we say when it is finished.

  • Two to four sessions on one named topic
  • Diagnostic question set before the first lesson
  • No rolling commitment once the topic is secure

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Tilal City

01

What a Tilal City parent is actually asking

The phrase typed into Google is 'IGCSE home tutor in Tilal City'. The question underneath it is almost never about geography. It is: can somebody competent sit with my child regularly, understand the course they are on, and tell me honestly whether the current grade is fixable. Proximity gets attached to that because, historically, regular meant physically present.

It is worth separating the two needs, because they pull in different directions. Regularity needs a slot that survives homework, Arabic lessons, football and a sibling's exams. Competence needs a person who has taught the exact paper. In Tilal City, a tutor who is physically close is more likely to be a generalist, because the specialist population is small and spread across the whole country. Insisting on both usually means quietly dropping the second one.

There is also the drive itself. A tutor travelling out to the Tilal City villas spends real time on the road, and that time is priced into the rate whether or not it appears as a separate line. The travel premium in the Sharjah market is substantial - and it buys travel. It does not buy a better understanding of Cambridge 0625 Paper 6 or Edexcel's two-paper maths structure.

So the honest answer to the search is this: there are people who will come to the villa, and there are people who know the syllabus to examination depth, and the overlap in this district is small. IB Gram chooses the second and removes the distance problem by teaching online, one to one, over live video. That is not a workaround dressed up as a benefit; it is the only way a family on the Mleiha road gets the tutor who actually teaches the paper.

02

Five questions that reveal whether a tutor knows the syllabus

  • Which board and which code is my child entered for, and how do you know?
  • How many papers are there in this subject, and what is each one worth?
  • What is the difference between Core and Extended in this subject specifically?
  • Name the three topics where candidates in this subject lose the most marks.
  • What will you do differently in the last six weeks before the series?

Parents are rarely in a position to assess subject knowledge directly, and a confident manner is easy to mistake for expertise. These five questions do not require you to know any chemistry or maths. They require the tutor to say something only a person who has taught the paper can say.

Ask them in a trial lesson, or on the phone before one. A specialist answers in specifics and often corrects the premise of the question. A generalist answers in reassurance. The difference is audible within a minute, and it is a far better signal than years of experience, a degree subject or a photograph of a certificate.

The point of the exercise is not to catch anybody out. It is that IGCSE is a precisely specified qualification, and the person teaching it should be able to talk about it precisely. A tutor who cannot name the papers in the subject they are about to teach for a year is being asked to do a job they have not done before, and your child's Year 11 is the wrong place to find that out.

Two answers should end the conversation. The first is a promise about the grade: no tutor can know what a candidate will score, and anybody who offers a number is selling confidence rather than teaching. The second is an offer to handle any piece of assessed work on the student's behalf. Both appear in this market, and both are reasons to keep looking.

If you want a shortcut, ask for a marked paper. A specialist will happily mark a recent mock before the trial lesson and bring the annotated script to the conversation, because the script makes their case for them. Somebody who would rather talk about rapport than about question 17 is telling you which of the two they are better at.

What IGCSE tutoring costs around Tilal City, and what each rate buys

Start with the monthly figure rather than the hourly one, because that is the number that decides whether a family can sustain support to the end of Year 11. One session a week at the lower end of the qualified-tutor band lands in the region of AED 600 to 1,200 a month, by the monthly estimates in Bestimate's Dubai tutoring cost table read in October 2026. The same table puts a budget arrangement at roughly AED 240 to 600 a month and specialist exam-year support at AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more.

Hourly bands behind those figures are reasonably consistent across published UAE rate cards. Budget online tutoring, usually delivered by university students, advertises from about AED 45 an hour. A qualified subject tutor teaching online sits roughly between AED 150 and 300. An in-home one-to-one visit is quoted between AED 180 and 500 once travel is absorbed, and named or examiner-branded tutoring reaches AED 500 to 650 and beyond. Published monthly packages seen in the market include around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home sessions.

These are market figures, quoted so you can judge any quote you receive against them. They are not IB Gram's price list, and the gap between the in-home and online bands is the part worth staring at: it is largely the cost of a car on the Mleiha road. For a Tilal City address, that premium is at the high end, because the drive is longer than the one assumed in a rate quoted from Al Majaz.

Where the money gets wasted is predictable. Two hours a week of general revision with a generalist, in a subject where the student needed four focused hours on one topic, costs more and achieves less than the opposite. So does paying a premium rate for a tutor who starts every session recapping the previous one because nothing was written down. Ask what you are buying per hour, and ask what will be different in six weeks.

Online lessons against an in-home visit on the Mleiha corridor

The comparison is usually framed as convenience against effectiveness, which is the wrong axis. The real trade is between the size of the pool you can pick from and the comfort of a person in the room. Online widens the pool to every specialist a platform can reach; in-home narrows it to whoever will make the drive.

For a district like Tilal City, that narrowing is severe. A twenty-minute radius around the Mleiha road contains a fraction of the tutors a twenty-minute radius around Al Majaz does, and almost none of the single-paper specialists. The further out a family lives, the more online buys them - which inverts the intuition that distance from the city centre makes online a compromise.

The practical objections to online are worth answering directly rather than brushed aside. A fourteen-year-old does need a quiet room and a parent walking past occasionally; a shared screen with a writing tablet does need to be set up once; and a student who will not engage with an adult on a screen is a real case, which is what the free trial lesson is for. IB Gram does not run home visits anywhere in the UAE - that service exists only in India - so the trial is also how a family finds out quickly whether online suits this particular child.

What online adds, beyond reach, is a record. Every annotated paper, every worked solution and every error log sits in one place instead of in a notebook that was left at school. In the final weeks before a series, that archive is the difference between revising and revising the right things.

Where IGCSE marks are genuinely lost in maths, physics and chemistry

  • Maths: bounds, rearrangement under time pressure, multi-step problems stopped early
  • Physics: parallel circuits, gradients from graphs, narrating practical method
  • Chemistry: mole ratios, electrolysis products, observation versus conclusion
  • All three: command words - describe, explain, suggest, calculate - answered interchangeably

A school report saying 'needs to revise more' is not a diagnosis. Marks in these three subjects are lost in identifiable, repeatable places, and a tutor who can name them in the first session is worth more than one who spends a month finding out. In maths, the recurring three are algebraic manipulation under time pressure, bounds and rounding, and multi-step problems abandoned one operation early. None of those is a knowledge gap; all three respond to timed practice with immediate marking.

In physics, electricity and anything requiring a gradient read off a graph dominate the lost marks. Candidates who can state Ohm's law still mishandle a parallel branch, and students who have drawn a line of best fit in class still read a value rather than calculating a gradient over a large interval. The alternative-to-practical paper punishes students who have never narrated a method aloud, which is a teachable skill and an unglamorous one.

In chemistry, the losses cluster in three places: mole calculations where the ratio is taken from the wrong species, electrolysis where the product at each electrode is guessed rather than reasoned, and organic conditions written approximately. The extended paper also marks language precisely. Writing 'it goes cloudy' instead of 'a white precipitate forms' costs the mark even when the student knows the chemistry, and that is a writing habit, not a content problem.

The practical consequence for tutoring in Tilal City is that the first session should produce a list, not a reassurance. Our tutors mark a diagnostic paper before the trial lesson where a family can supply one, so the trial is spent on evidence rather than introductions.

06

The exam route for a Sharjah candidate, from entry to result

  • Entries are made by the school's centre, not by the family
  • The school's internal deadline for changes sits well before the board's
  • Use only the zone timetable your exams officer confirms
  • November entries are the standard resit route for a June candidate
  • Private-candidate entry is possible through registered centres, with its own earlier deadlines

Cambridge International runs IGCSE and O Level examinations in a June series and a November series. UAE candidates sit those two. The February/March series exists, but Cambridge offers it to India only, and a page that tells a Sharjah parent to prepare for a February sitting is giving them a date they cannot use. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May/June and November.

Entry happens months before the paper, and it happens through the school as part of its centre registration - not through the family. That is the single most important operational fact for a parent: the deadline that matters to you is the school's internal one, which is earlier than the board's, and it is usually communicated once, by email, in a busy term. If your child might move from Core to Extended, or add a subject, the conversation with the exams officer has to happen before that internal deadline, not after the mocks that prompted the idea.

Each Cambridge centre is allocated to one of six administrative zones, each with its own timetable version. Cambridge states that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an examination after the wrong zone timetable was used, so the only document to work from is the one your school's exams officer issues. For Pearson, the November final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026, and results from a November series reach students in January - the November 2025 cohort received theirs on 22 January 2026. June Pearson results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students the following day.

Counted backwards from any series, the shape of a sensible year is stable: topic teaching finishes roughly ten weeks out, full timed papers start about eight weeks out, and the final fortnight is error-log work on the specific question types that keep costing marks. A tutoring plan that is still teaching new content four weeks before the paper has run out of road.

07

SPEA, your child's school report and the tutor permit nobody checks

Private education in Sharjah is regulated by the Sharjah Private Education Authority. SPEA regulates private schools in the emirate and, along with Ras Al Khaimah's Department of Knowledge, approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. That is a wider remit than inspection alone, and it is worth knowing because it means a Sharjah school's fee structure and subject offer have been through an approval process rather than set freely.

What a school inspection report gives you is a judgement on the school, not on your child's subject. A strong overall rating is compatible with a department that has lost two teachers mid-year, and a weaker rating is compatible with excellent chemistry teaching. Read the subject-level commentary if it exists, ask the head of department how many teachers have taught the current Year 11 cohort, and treat the headline band as context.

On the tutor side, there is a rule most families never hear about. Private tutoring in the UAE requires a work permit issued by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, introduced under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. It is granted free of charge for two years, and eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed individuals, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. The application route is MoHRE's own 'Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing' service, through its app, website and e-services system.

Two things follow for a parent in Tilal City. First, you may ask a prospective in-home tutor whether they hold the permit; it costs them nothing to have, so a shrug is informative. Second, be wary of any offer to arrange tuition with your child's own class teacher. Abu Dhabi's regulator has published professional-ethics rules barring school staff from paid tutoring of students at their own school, and the MoHRE permit carries a code of conduct pointing the same way. IB Gram is not described here as approved, licensed or accredited by any UAE authority - we are a tutor-matching platform, and that distinction is the point.

08

Coursework, feedback and the line a tutor must not cross

IGCSE carries less coursework than it used to, but several subjects still have assessed components, and students on a British track in Sharjah often move on to A Level or an IB diploma where internally assessed work dominates. The boundary is the same across all of them, and it is simple to state: the work must be the student's own.

A tutor may teach the underlying skill, question a plan, point to a syllabus criterion, explain why a paragraph does not answer the question asked, and model an answer on a different question entirely. A tutor may not write, draft, rewrite or edit to completion any part of an assessed piece. IB Gram does not supply completed coursework, internal assessments, extended essays or any assessed writing. This is said plainly because the search results for these queries contain operations that sell exactly that, at prices in the thousands of dirhams, and a student who buys one risks a malpractice finding that no grade is worth.

There is a related boundary around materials. Syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes and grade-boundary tables belong to the boards. We reference them and point to the official source, and your child's school is the proper route to the current version. A tutoring service that offers you a drive full of 'exclusive' board material is distributing somebody else's copyright, and in the case of unreleased material, exposing your child to a malpractice question.

Said positively: the useful thing a tutor does with assessed work is make the student better at producing it unaided, early enough that it matters. That means reading the criteria together in week one, not editing prose in the final week.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Tilal City

Tilal City families draw on schooling and tutoring across a wide arc of Sharjah, because the district's own school provision is still filling in. These are the areas that matter in practice, and what each one means for a weekday session.

Muwaileh

The nearest dense school cluster to Tilal City and the first place families look for in-home tutors. The afternoon exit from Muwaileh towards the Mleiha road is slow enough that a 4pm in-home slot regularly becomes a 4:40pm start. Online removes that entirely.

University City

Home to the Sharjah universities, and the source of most budget tutoring supply in this part of the emirate. University students may hold a private tuition work permit, and plenty are capable, but very few have taught a specific IGCSE paper to grade standard.

Al Zahia

A newer community between Tilal City and Muwaileh with a similar profile: recently arrived families, limited local tutoring word-of-mouth, and strong demand for Years 10 and 11 maths and science in the second term.

Aljada

Dense, central and well supplied with schools. Families here often share tutors informally, which is why Tilal City parents hear rates quoted from Aljada that do not include the drive out to the Mleiha corridor.

Al Majaz

The older tutoring heartland of Sharjah, close to the lagoon and the Dubai boundary. In-home rates quoted here are the ones most often repeated to new arrivals, and they assume a short journey the tutor does not have to make to reach Tilal City.

Al Qasimia

Central Sharjah, with a long-established mix of Indian and British curriculum schools. Many Tilal City students have siblings or cousins at schools here, so exam-term demand in both districts peaks in the same fortnight.

Sharjah Garden City

On the same southern corridor as Tilal City and facing the same supply problem: a short list of local tutors, almost none of them subject specialists in a single IGCSE paper.

Al Nahda, Sharjah

On the Dubai boundary, where a large number of families commute across to Dubai schools. The commute shifts the realistic start of a weekday session to after 5pm, which is a scheduling fact rather than a preference.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Tilal City

The Sharjah-Mleiha corridor

Tilal City students are spread across schools reached by car rather than on foot, so the school-run window, not the neighbourhood, sets the earliest workable session time. Families here routinely name schools in the Muwaileh and central Sharjah clusters rather than anything inside the district itself.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the board and the code

Send the subject, the board and the syllabus code from your child's statement of entry or school report - 0580, 4MA1, 0620 - plus the year group and the next assessment date. That single line is what lets us match on paper experience rather than on a general subject label.

  2. 02

    Diagnostic and free trial lesson

Where you can supply a recent paper or mock, the tutor marks it before you meet. The trial lesson is then spent on evidence: what is actually going wrong, which topics are costing the most marks, and whether this tutor and this student can work together. No payment is taken for the trial.

  3. 03

A weekly slot and a written plan

You choose a fixed time in Gulf Standard Time around the school run and any Arabic or Islamic Education commitments. The tutor writes a short plan naming the topics for the next six sessions, so progress can be checked against something specific rather than against a feeling.

  4. 04

Review at six sessions, and an honest answer about availability

At six sessions we look at marks on timed questions, not effort. If the fit is wrong we change the tutor and keep the plan. If no specialist is free in a niche subject at the hour you need, we say so rather than filling the slot with a generalist and hoping.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Matched by syllabus code, not by postcode

The first question we ask is which board and which code. A Cambridge 0580 Extended candidate and an Edexcel 4MA1 Higher candidate need different paper strategies, and a tutor who has taught one will mislead the other about question style. Distance from Tilal City is not part of the match.

Lessons delivered online, stated plainly

All UAE tuition is one-to-one over live video. IB Gram does not run home visits anywhere in the UAE; that service exists only in India. Saying so up front is more useful than a page that implies a car is on its way and then arranges a video call anyway.

Market rates published, our own quoted directly

The AED bands on this page are what the Sharjah and Dubai market charges, with the source and the month they were read. Use them to judge any quote you receive, including ours. Nobody else in this search result publishes a rate table at all.

Marking against the published mark scheme

Past-paper work is marked to the board's own mark scheme rather than to a tutor's impression, and the errors are logged by question type. That is how a student learns the difference between an answer that feels right and one that scores.

Clear coursework boundaries

Tutors teach, question and give feedback on the student's own work. They do not write, draft or complete any assessed piece. Several operations ranking for these searches sell exactly that, and the risk sits entirely with the student.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Tilal City: your questions answered

Can I actually get an IGCSE home tutor to come to a villa in Tilal City?+

There are tutors in the Sharjah market who travel to homes, and in-home rates are quoted between roughly AED 180 and 500 an hour once travel is absorbed. IB Gram is not one of them: we do not send tutors to addresses anywhere in the UAE, because home visits are a service we run only in India. For Tilal City families we deliver the same one-to-one teaching over live video, which lets us match your child to a tutor who has taught their specific paper rather than to whoever is willing to drive out along the Mleiha road at five o'clock.

How do I tell whether a tutor really knows the IGCSE syllabus my child is sitting?+

Ask which board and code the child is entered for, how many papers the subject has, what each paper is worth, and the three topics where candidates lose the most marks. Somebody who has taught the paper answers in specifics and often corrects your question. A generalist answers with reassurance about building confidence. You do not need subject knowledge to hear the difference, and two minutes of questions on the phone will tell you more than a CV, a degree title or a photograph of a certificate.

Why are there so few IGCSE specialists living near Tilal City?+

Tilal City is a newer residential district on the Sharjah-Mleiha corridor rather than part of the older tutoring belt around Al Majaz and Al Qasimia. Specialist tutors, the kind who have taught one subject and one board to examination depth for years, are a small population spread across the whole country. They cluster where they happen to live, not where demand appears. That is why matching by distance produces generalists almost everywhere outside central Sharjah, and why teaching over video widens the choice so sharply for families here.

What does IGCSE tutoring cost per month for a family in this part of Sharjah?+

Taking Bestimate's Dubai tutoring cost estimates read in October 2026 as the market benchmark, one session a week lands around AED 240 to 600 a month at budget level, AED 600 to 1,200 with a qualified subject tutor, and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. Published packages in the market include about AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home sessions. Those are market figures for comparison, not IB Gram's price list; ask us directly and start with the free trial.

Is my child sitting Cambridge or Pearson Edexcel, and does it change who should teach them?+

It changes a great deal. The statement of entry or the school's exam information will carry a code: 0580 and 0620 are Cambridge, 4MA1 and 4CH1 are Pearson Edexcel. Cambridge maths uses a tiered four-paper pattern; Edexcel uses two equally weighted papers with its own question style. A tutor fluent in one board will give confident but wrong guidance about the other's papers. Send us the code and we match to it. If you cannot find it, the school's exams officer can confirm it in a sentence.

When do UAE students sit their IGCSE exams, and when are the results out?+

Cambridge runs a June series and a November series, and UAE candidates sit those two; the February/March series is offered in India only. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May/June and November. For Pearson, the November final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026, and results from a November series reach students in January - the November 2025 cohort had theirs on 22 January 2026. Work from the timetable your school's exams officer issues, because each Cambridge centre sits in one of six zones with its own version.

My child is in Year 10 on Core maths. Can they still move to Extended?+

Usually yes, and for longer than most families are told, because the entry is made by the school's centre months after the course starts. The decision belongs to the school, so the conversation to have is with the head of maths and the exams officer, before the school's internal entry deadline rather than after the mocks that prompted the thought. What matters in the meantime is whether the student can handle the Extended-only topics. A tutor can test that in two sessions with past-paper questions and give you an evidenced opinion rather than a hopeful one.

How many sessions a week does a Year 11 student in Sharjah usually need?+

One session a week per subject is the common starting point, and it is enough when the student does the work between lessons. Two becomes sensible in the final eight to ten weeks before a series, when the work shifts to full timed papers that need marking and reviewing. More than two a week in one subject is rarely useful: the limiting factor becomes the student's independent practice, not teaching time. We review at six sessions and will say if the frequency should drop as well as rise.

Do private tutors in Sharjah need a permit, and can I ask to see it?+

Yes. Private tutoring in the UAE requires a work permit from the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, introduced under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Those tutoring without one are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. Because the permit costs nothing, there is no good reason for a working tutor not to hold it, and asking is entirely reasonable.

Will a tutor help my child with assessed coursework or an internal assessment?+

A tutor will teach the skills, question the plan, explain a criterion, show why a paragraph misses the question, and model answers on different tasks. A tutor will not write, redraft or edit any part of assessed work to completion, and IB Gram does not supply completed coursework, internal assessments or extended essays. Operations selling finished assessments appear in these search results at prices in the thousands of dirhams; a student who uses one risks a malpractice finding. The useful help is early help with the criteria, not editing in the final week.

What does SPEA do, and does it regulate tutoring as well as schools?+

The Sharjah Private Education Authority regulates private schools in the emirate, and along with Ras Al Khaimah's Department of Knowledge it approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. So your child's school fees and subject offer have been through an approval process. Private tutoring is a separate matter, governed federally through the MoHRE private tuition work permit. IB Gram holds no approval, licence or accreditation from SPEA or any other UAE authority, and any tutoring service claiming one should be asked to produce the permit number.

Can lessons be scheduled around the school run and Ramadan timings?+

Yes, and this is where online scheduling earns its place for a family on the Mleiha corridor. A slot can start as soon as your child is home rather than after a tutor's own commute, and it can move for a late school bus without losing the lesson. During Ramadan, families commonly shift sessions to after Iftar or to late morning at weekends, and shortened school days change what a weekday evening can realistically hold. Tell us the pattern you need and we schedule in Gulf Standard Time around it.

My child has eight weeks until the papers. Is it too late to start tutoring?+

Eight weeks is short but usable, provided the work changes shape. There is no time to reteach a two-year course, so the sessions should be full timed papers, marked against the published mark scheme, with an error log by question type driving what gets reviewed. That approach regularly recovers marks lost to command-word confusion, time management and presentation rather than to missing knowledge. What eight weeks cannot do is replace a year of content, and a tutor who tells you otherwise is selling you something.

Which IGCSE subjects do Sharjah families ask for most, and which are hardest to staff?+

Maths, physics and chemistry at Extended or Higher level account for most requests from this part of Sharjah, followed by English first language and biology. The harder requests to fill are the narrow ones: Additional Mathematics 0606, computer science, and a specific board's business studies paper at an awkward hour. When no specialist is free at the time you need, we say so rather than putting a generalist in the slot. A clear no is more useful than a match that wastes a term.

Start with the code, then the trial lesson

If you take one thing from this page, take the habit of leading with the syllabus code. 'Year 11 maths' gets you a generalist; '0580 Extended, Paper 4 is the weak one, mocks in January' gets you somebody who has taught that paper and can tell you in one session what is recoverable. Send us the subject, the board and the code, and we will match a specialist, mark a recent paper before you meet, and run a free trial lesson over live video. Lessons for Tilal City families are delivered online, one to one, and scheduled around your school run rather than around the Mleiha road.
