IB IGCSE Tutor for Sharjah American International School Students in Sharjah

An IB IGCSE tutor for Sharjah American International School students is usually hired for one of two reasons: a move into a British or IB school in Sharjah is coming, or a student on an American programme wants the written-paper discipline that Cambridge and the IB demand. Lessons run online, one to one, over live video on Gulf Standard Time. Each session ends with marked work, so you can see what moved.

  • Every session ends with a marked question, not a verbal summary
  • Sharjah sits under SPEA, which approves curricula and assessment methods
  • Cambridge IGCSE candidates in the UAE sit the June and November series
  • A free trial lesson first, no card details, before any payment

IB & IGCSE in Sharjah

What a SAIS family is usually trying to fix

Sharjah American International School teaches an American programme, and most families who look for an IB or IGCSE tutor around it are not unhappy with that. They are planning for something. A sibling has a place at an IB school in Al Majaz. A Year 9 student wants to sit Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics as a private candidate alongside school. A Grade 11 student has accepted a place at a Dubai IB school for the next academic year and will arrive two terms behind on Theory of Knowledge and on the Internal Assessment calendar. The tutoring that helps is not generic revision; it is a specific bridge between two assessment cultures.

Those two cultures measure different things. An American report card rewards accumulated credit: homework submitted, quizzes passed, participation, a GPA that moves in small increments across a semester. A Cambridge IGCSE grade and an IB subject grade are decided almost entirely by terminal written papers marked against a published mark scheme, plus coursework assessed by criterion. A student can hold a strong GPA and still lose a third of the available marks on IGCSE Physics Paper 4, because nobody told them that describe and explain demand different answers and that a correct idea written in the wrong register earns nothing.

This page is built around evidence rather than reassurance. Every session a tutor runs here produces something you can look at: a past-paper question marked with the examiner's mark scheme beside it, a corrected IA draft with the criterion letter and the mark band named, a short list of the exact topics that cost marks this week. Over six weeks that becomes a record of movement rather than an impression of effort. A tutor who cannot show you that after a month is not measuring anything.

Delivery is online. IB Gram does not run home visits in Sharjah, because that is an India-only service, so every lesson described here happens over live video, one to one, with a shared screen and the question on it. For a Sharjah family that is usually the better trade anyway. The in-home pool within a twenty-minute drive of Al Nahda or Muwailih is whoever happens to live there, while an online pool is whoever teaches Cambridge IGCSE 0625 Physics Paper 6 well.

Sharjah's private schools sit under the Sharjah Private Education Authority, which regulates private education in the emirate and approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. That matters for a practical reason: a school's assessment calendar is not a free-floating choice, and a tutor needs to work to the school's dates rather than invent a schedule. It also matters for the exam route, because a student sitting Cambridge IGCSE outside their own school's entry sits as a private candidate at an exam centre, and the entry deadline falls months before the paper.

What follows is the full picture: what the papers ask, where the marks actually go, what the Sharjah market charges in AED and why, how the June and November entry windows work backwards from the written paper, and what a tutor is and is not allowed to touch on an Internal Assessment.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

SAIS students arrive at IB and IGCSE work from an American grade structure, so the mapping matters more than the label. The three programmes below are the ones Sharjah families actually move into, with the entry point an American-curriculum student usually joins at and the first piece of evidence a tutor produces.

MYPAges 11-16 · Grades 6-10

Middle Years Programme

The MYP assesses eight subject groups against four criteria each, marked zero to eight, with no terminal paper until the optional eAssessment at the end of the fifth year. A student moving from an American middle-school report meets command terms and criterion descriptors for the first time, and the difficulty is usually in the written reflection rather than in the content itself.

Sharjah and Dubai IB schools commonly admit MYP students mid-phase, which means a Grade 9 arrival is assessed against criteria the cohort has used for three years. The first evidence a tutor produces here is a single criterion-marked task, so you can see which of the four descriptors is actually costing the grade.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel IGCSE

Two boards dominate UAE schools. Cambridge IGCSE uses codes such as 0580 Mathematics and 0625 Physics, with Core and Extended tiers and a terminal paper set. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE uses codes such as 4MA1 and 4PH1. In both cases the grade is decided by written papers marked to a published scheme rather than by classwork.

For Sharjah families the practical question is the entry route. A student taking a subject their own school does not enter must register as a private candidate at an exam centre, and Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones, each with its own timetable version. Cambridge states that using the wrong zone timetable is the candidate's risk.

DPAges 16-19 · Grades 11-12

Diploma Programme

Six subjects, three at Higher Level and three at Standard Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS. Each subject carries an Internal Assessment graded against criteria lettered A onwards. Subject grades run one to seven, with up to three further points from TOK and the Extended Essay, to a forty-five point total.

A student arriving from an American Grade 11 into DP1 at a Sharjah or Dubai IB school usually has the subject content but not the IA calendar, which opens in the first term and closes well before the written papers. The first tutoring block is almost always spent narrowing a research question until it is small enough to be assessed.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the subjects SAIS families ask for by name, with what each assessment actually rewards. Where a Cambridge or Edexcel code applies it is named, because the code decides the paper structure and therefore decides which practice is worth doing at all.

Mathematics (Cambridge IGCSE 0580)

Core and Extended

Extended covers functions, vectors, introductory calculus and harder trigonometry that Core omits. Most lost marks here are method marks: a correct final answer with no working scores less than a wrong answer with visible method. Sessions drill the writing of the method, not only the arithmetic.

Physics (Cambridge IGCSE 0625)

Core and Extended

Paper 6, Alternative to Practical, is where a student who has never drawn a results table loses the most. Electricity and magnetism carry the heaviest conceptual load. Practice is built on marked Paper 6 questions, because the skill being tested is recording and interpreting rather than recalling.

Chemistry (Cambridge IGCSE 0620)

Core and Extended

Mole calculations and the mechanics of writing ionic equations separate grades here. Students arriving from an American chemistry course usually know the concepts and have never been asked to include state symbols or to justify a choice of apparatus for two marks.

Biology (Cambridge IGCSE 0610)

Core and Extended

Biology is marked on precision of language. The plant grows better earns nothing where the rate of photosynthesis increases because light intensity increases earns the mark. Sessions work directly from mark schemes, so the student learns which words are being counted.

First Language English and English as a Second Language

IGCSE 0500 and 0510

Two different qualifications that look almost identical on a timetable. First Language English assesses directed writing and reading analysis; ESL assesses comprehension and functional writing. Entering the wrong one costs a grade that has nothing to do with the student's ability.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

IB HL and SL

AA rewards algebraic fluency and proof. HL adds proof by induction, complex numbers and a Paper 3 investigation. Students from an American calculus course often have the technique and no experience of a question that asks them to justify each step in writing.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

IB HL and SL

AI is modelling, statistics and technology-active work, with a long data investigation in HL Paper 3. The common failure is treating a modelling question as a calculation question and never stating what the model assumes or where it stops being valid.

Chemistry

IB HL and SL

Energetics, equilibrium and organic mechanisms are where HL separates from SL. The Internal Assessment is a single scientific investigation assessed against criteria, and the mark is more often lost on the evaluation than on the practical work itself.

English A: Language and Literature

IB HL and SL

Assessed by a guided analysis of an unseen text, a comparative essay, and the Individual Oral. Students moving from an American English class have usually written personal-response essays and not timed comparative analysis against a two-hour clock.

Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay

IB Diploma core

Up to three of the forty-five points come from these two components. TOK is assessed on an exhibition and an essay on a prescribed title; the Extended Essay is a four thousand word independent piece. A tutor coaches the question and the process and writes no part of either.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats, all delivered online. Because the delivery is identical across them, the only thing worth comparing is how much marked work comes out of each one and how quickly a parent can read it.

Weekly one-to-one with marked work

One sixty-minute session a week on live video, with the question on a shared screen. The tutor sets two past-paper questions before the session and marks them to the published scheme; the session itself is spent on the marks that were lost. Across a term that produces a dated file of marked work showing which topics have stopped costing marks.

  • Two marked questions a week, scored against the mark scheme
  • A named topic list that shrinks as items are cleared
  • Session notes you can read without the tutor present
  • Gulf Standard Time slots set around the school run

Paper-by-paper exam block

A fixed block in the eight to twelve weeks before a written series, built around whole papers under timing rather than around topics. Each paper is sat to the clock, marked, then reworked question by question. The measure of progress is the raw mark on a paper of comparable difficulty, not a feeling about readiness.

  • Whole papers sat under exam timing on video
  • Raw marks recorded per paper so movement is visible
  • Command-term drill on the questions that were misread
  • A revision order set by the lost marks, not by syllabus order

IA, EE and Personal Project coaching

Process coaching on work that must remain the student's own. A tutor can narrow a research question, challenge a method, explain what a criterion descriptor is asking for and comment on a draft. A tutor cannot write, rewrite or finish any part of it, and any page offering that is describing malpractice rather than tutoring.

  • A research question narrowed until it can be assessed
  • Draft comments tied to the criterion letter and band
  • A submission timeline set against the school's own deadlines
  • Written feedback only; the text stays the student's work

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Sharjah

01

What this search usually means at SAIS

  • A confirmed school move: bridge one subject hard, then the core
  • A private-candidate entry: code first, centre second, papers third
  • Two curricula in one house: one calendar, two tutors, shared notes
  • A university target: grades the course asks for, read honestly

Sharjah American International School runs an American programme, so a search for an IB IGCSE tutor for Sharjah American International School students is almost never a complaint about the school. It is a transition question. In most cases one of four things is happening: a place has been accepted at an IB or British school for the next academic year, a student wants a Cambridge IGCSE subject their own timetable does not carry, a sibling is already in an IB school and the household wants one tutoring plan, or a Grade 11 student is looking at universities that read IB and A-Level grades more fluently than a GPA.

Each of those needs different work. A confirmed move into DP1 needs TOK vocabulary, the Internal Assessment calendar and one subject bridged hard, which is usually Maths. A private-candidate IGCSE entry needs the syllabus code, an exam centre and a paper-by-paper plan that starts months before the written exam. A household running two curricula needs scheduling more than it needs content. A university-driven question needs a realistic read of what the target courses actually ask for in grades.

What all four share is that progress has to be visible to a parent who does not teach the subject. That is why this page is organised around evidence: a marked question, a mark-scheme comparison, a dated raw score on a whole paper, a criterion letter set against an IA draft. You should not have to take anyone's word for whether the sessions are working, and after four weeks you should be able to point at the thing that changed.

02

Two assessment cultures, one transcript

An American high-school transcript and a Cambridge or IB grade are built from different raw material. The transcript accumulates: assignments, quizzes, tests, participation and a semester weighting, producing a GPA that moves gradually and rewards consistency over months. A Cambridge IGCSE grade is decided by terminal written papers marked against a published scheme, with an alternative-to-practical paper or a practical test in the sciences. An IB subject grade combines terminal papers with an Internal Assessment marked by criterion.

The consequence is specific rather than philosophical. A student used to the first system often writes a great deal and claims very little. Mark schemes pay for named points, and a paragraph that circles a correct idea without stating it earns nothing at all. The reverse failure is just as common: a student trained on multiple-choice drills gives a one-line answer to a four-mark explain question and loses three marks they could comfortably have answered for.

The table below sets the three systems beside each other on the points that change how a student should study. It is not a ranking of difficulty. A student can be genuinely strong in one system and unprepared for another, and the gap is almost always technique rather than content knowledge, which is why the first thing a tutor does is take a baseline on a real paper.

That baseline answers a question no report card can. One marked paper sat under timing tells you whether the problem is the physics or the paper, and those two problems need completely different terms of work. If the content is secure and the marks are leaking at the command term, six weeks is often enough. If whole topics are missing, the plan has to be longer and you deserve to be told that before you pay for anything.

03

Where the marks actually go

In Cambridge IGCSE 0580 Mathematics the single largest avoidable loss is unwritten method. The scheme awards method marks for a recognisable route to the answer, so a student who does the algebra mentally and writes one line is throwing away marks they have already earned. The habit is fixable in about three sessions, and it is fixable in a way you can see: the same question, re-marked, with the method visible and the score higher.

In 0625 Physics the loss concentrates in Paper 6. Alternative to Practical asks a student to draw a results table with units in the headings, read an instrument to the correct precision, plot with a sensible scale and then identify a source of error that is actually a source of error rather than a generic mention of human mistake. None of that is physics knowledge. All of it is trained, and a student who has only sat multiple-choice science has usually never been asked for any of it.

In the IB sciences the Internal Assessment is where a strong student most often underperforms. The practical work tends to be fine; the evaluation is thin. A criterion that asks for a discussion of limitations wants named limitations with a stated effect on the result and a specific improvement, not a paragraph saying more trials would help. A tutor marks the draft against the criterion letter, names the band it currently sits in, and explains what would move it. The student then rewrites it themselves.

In the English qualifications the loss is structural. A guided analysis question is not an invitation to summarise the text, and a comparative essay that treats two works in two separate halves has not compared anything. These are answerable patterns, and they respond quickly to marked practice because the student can see the difference between the two versions of their own paragraph.

04

What IB and IGCSE tutoring costs in Sharjah, cheapest first

Start at the bottom of the market, because that is where most Sharjah searches start. Budget online tutoring, often a university student working from a textbook, is advertised in the UAE from around AED 45 to AED 65 an hour by EdFlik and from roughly AED 33 to AED 52 by Tutopiya, on their own published pages. That buys supervision and company for homework. It does not usually buy somebody who has marked a 0625 Paper 6 against the scheme.

A qualified subject tutor working online sits higher. Unitors publishes IGCSE tuition from AED 150 an hour and IB from AED 200. TutorChase quotes AED 270 for an IB specialist, and Bestimate's 2026 Dubai rate table puts a specialist at AED 200 to AED 450 and above, with a premium named tier reaching AED 650 at BartyED. Those are figures those providers published, not an IB Gram price list; our own rate is quoted after the free trial lesson, with the session length and the marking stated.

In-home one-to-one is the most expensive line, and the reason is travel. Bestimate records AED 180 to AED 350 an hour for a home visit, and independent home tutors are quoted up to AED 500 once travel is priced in. What that premium buys is a person in the room. What it costs is choice, because the pool shrinks to whoever will drive to Al Nahda at 19:00, which in a niche Higher Level subject can mean nobody at all. IB Gram does not run home visits in Sharjah, as that is an India-only service, and online tutoring spends the same budget on specialism instead of on mileage.

Three things move the number in this emirate specifically. The level matters, because IB Higher Level and Diploma core work costs more than IGCSE Core. Proximity to a written series matters, because demand concentrates in the weeks before June and November. And whether the rate includes marking matters most of all, since marking happens outside the lesson and a rate that excludes it is not comparable with one that includes it.

The entry windows, counted backwards from the paper

Nobody in this market publishes a calendar, which is strange, because the calendar is what decides whether tutoring can still help. Cambridge International runs IGCSE and O Level exams in a June series and a November series, with Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests in March, May and October. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE is available in a May/June window and a November window. The February/March series that appears in search results is offered to India only and is not a route for a candidate sitting in the UAE.

The entry deadline is the part families miss. A centre must submit entries months before the paper, and once that date passes the next opportunity is the following series, which for a Cambridge candidate means waiting from June to November or from November to June. Cambridge also allocates every exam centre to one of six administrative zones, each with its own version of the timetable, and states that it cannot accept responsibility for a candidate who misses an exam after working from the wrong zone's timetable. Always open the live official timetable rather than a copy on a tutoring site.

Results arrive later than most parents expect. For Pearson, the November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026, June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students the following day, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Those published dates are the honest basis for planning a resit: a November candidate does not know their grade until the middle of the following January, which is after many university and school deadlines.

The table below counts backwards from a written paper so you can see where tutoring sits. The useful read is the row above the exam window rather than the exam window itself, because that is where a plan either exists or does not.

What a tutor may and may not touch on an IA, EE or Personal Project

This is the most important paragraph on the page, and it is the one the essay mills in these search results never write. Internal Assessments, the Extended Essay, the TOK essay and the MYP Personal Project must be the student's own work. The IB treats submitted work that is not the candidate's own as malpractice, and the consequence falls on the student rather than on whoever was paid. One site competing for this query advertises completed Internal Assessments for a fixed fee. That is not tutoring and it is not a service IB Gram will provide.

Inside that boundary there is a great deal a tutor can legitimately do, and most of it is the part students find hardest. A tutor can read a proposed research question and say why it cannot be assessed as written. A tutor can explain what a criterion descriptor is actually asking for, in plain words, with an example that is not the student's own topic. A tutor can challenge a method, point out that a control variable is not controlled, and ask what the uncertainty in a measurement does to the conclusion.

A tutor can also comment on a draft the student has written: naming the criterion letter, naming the band the draft currently sits in, and describing what the next band up requires. The student then rewrites. The difference between that and a rewriting service is visible in the file history, which is one reason written feedback is better evidence than a verbal call. Your child's school supervisor is also entitled to ask what support was received, and an honest answer should never be a problem.

Where a school has set its own internal deadlines, the tutor works to them rather than to a schedule of our own. A Sharjah IB school typically runs IA drafts through the first Diploma year with a final submission well before the written papers, and planning backwards from the school's date is the only version that helps.

07

Who regulates your child's school, and what that changes

Private schools in the UAE are regulated by emirate, not nationally, and the differences are real. Sharjah's private schools answer to the Sharjah Private Education Authority, which regulates private education in the emirate and, along with Ras Al Khaimah's Department of Knowledge, approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. Dubai's schools answer to the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, Abu Dhabi and Al Ain to the Department of Education and Knowledge, and schools in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah are supervised by the federal Ministry of Education.

For a tutoring plan this matters in three ways. First, the school's assessment calendar is approved rather than invented, so a tutor who asks for the school's own dates is asking the right question. Second, mandatory subjects follow the emirate rather than the licensed curriculum: Arabic, Islamic Education and social or moral studies run alongside an IB or IGCSE programme, and in Dubai the KHDA requires separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, with combined classes prohibited. Third, the regulator is where a parent can verify that a school exists and what inspection band it holds.

It is worth being precise about what regulation does not mean. IB Gram is not approved, accredited or licensed by SPEA, the KHDA, ADEK or the Ministry of Education, and no tutoring platform should imply otherwise. A KHDA Educational Services Permit is a specific instrument issued to a training institute with premises in Dubai; an online one-to-one service with no UAE premises does not hold one and should not suggest it does. Individual private tutors in the UAE are covered by a different instrument, the MoHRE private tuition work permit.

That permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and covers teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged fifteen to eighteen. Individuals tutoring without it are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule has been published, so any specific amount you see quoted online is unverified.

What a Sharjah IGCSE student must show for MoE equivalency

Equivalency is the process by which the UAE Ministry of Education recognises a foreign secondary certificate, and it is the step families discover late. For the British track, which is the one an IGCSE candidate is on, the published requirement is five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates with a grade of no less than E or grade 3, plus either one accredited subject at Advanced Level with a grade of no less than E or two accredited subjects at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade.

Two details inside that rule save families money. Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five required subjects, so a student counting them towards the total may be a subject short without knowing it. And the figure is five, not six. One page currently ranking for UAE equivalency queries states that candidates must take six IGCSE subjects, which would have a family paying for an entry they do not need.

For the American track, which is where a SAIS student starts, the published requirement is different in kind. English proficiency is evidenced by a score of 5 in the IELTS academic test, 61 in the TOEFL iBT, or 450 in the reading and writing section of the SAT, and mathematics requires at least 450 in the SAT Math test before applying. If your child is moving between the two tracks, it is worth knowing which set of evidence the plan is now building towards.

For the IB there is a published position worth stating plainly: no IB points threshold for equivalency has been confirmed from an official Ministry source for this page, so none is quoted here. Any site publishing a specific IB points figure for UAE equivalency should be asked where it read it. Equivalency is also something the Ministry performs and IB Gram does not, and tutoring is not a requirement for it.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across Sharjah

Sharjah is not one commute. Where a family lives decides when a session can realistically start, because a Sharjah school run and a Dubai school run finish at different times and the evening crawl on Al Ittihad Road is a fact rather than a complaint.

Al Majaz

Dense apartment blocks along Khalid Lagoon, within a short run of several private schools, so students are often home by 15:30. This is the earliest realistic session slot in the emirate, and the one that leaves the evening free for sport.

Al Nahda

A large share of Al Nahda children attend school in Dubai, which means a bus arriving after 16:30 and homework starting at 18:00. Sessions here work best at 19:00 or later, and Friday afternoons beat weeknights.

Muwailih

The cluster around University City and the Muwaileh schools. Short school runs, large year groups, and heavy demand for IGCSE Mathematics and Physics in Years 10 and 11. Back-to-back sibling slots are common in this area.

Al Khan

Coastal, mixed villas and towers, with households often split between Sharjah and Dubai schools. The practical issue is two term calendars under one roof, which a shared session plan has to account for from the start.

Al Taawun

Towers on the Dubai border, a short hop from Al Mamzar. Students regularly travel to Dubai schools, so the IGCSE board in one flat may be Edexcel while the neighbour sits Cambridge. Naming the code first prevents wasted practice.

University City and Al Nud

Home to the emirate's universities and to staff families whose children sit IB and IGCSE locally. Demand here skews towards Higher Level sciences, Maths AA and Extended Essay support in the first Diploma year.

Khor Fakkan and Kalba

Sharjah's east-coast exclaves, still regulated by SPEA, roughly two hours from a Dubai tuition centre. Online tutoring is not a compromise in these two towns; it is the only way to reach a subject specialist at all.

School ecosystem

Sharjah city: Al Majaz, Al Qasimia and Al Khan

The older Sharjah city schools sit within a few kilometres of each other, so families switch between an American, a British and an IB programme without moving house. How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the code, not only the subject

Send the syllabus code from the school's exam entry form, or a photo of it. 0580 and 4MA1 are both called IGCSE Mathematics and set different papers, so the code decides which tutor and which practice are useful. For IB students, the subject, level and the IA deadline the school has set are enough.

  2. 02

A free trial lesson with the tutor you would keep

The trial is a real sixty-minute lesson with the tutor who would continue, not a sales call with somebody else. No card details are taken before it. If the match is wrong, say so and we change the tutor rather than asking you to try harder with the same one.

  3. 03

    Baseline on a real paper

In the first two weeks the student sits one whole past paper under timing, and the tutor marks it against the published scheme. That produces a raw score and a list of lost marks by topic. It is unpleasant and it is the single most useful hour in the plan, because everything after it is prioritised by that list.

  4. 04

Weekly marked work and a shrinking list

Each week the tutor sets two questions, marks them, and reports which items on the topic list have been cleared. You get the marked work, not a summary of it. The list getting shorter is the progress measure, and when it stops shortening we change the method rather than adding hours.

  5. 05

Review against the baseline at six weeks

At six weeks the student sits a comparable paper under the same conditions and the two raw marks are set side by side. That conversation is short and factual. If the number has not moved, we say so and explain what we think the cause is, which is sometimes a subject gap and sometimes a sleep schedule.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Evidence you can read without us

Marked scripts, mark-scheme comparisons and dated raw scores are yours to keep and to show the school. A parent who does not teach chemistry can still read a rising raw mark on a paper of similar difficulty, which is more than a progress call provides.

The syllabus code decides the practice

Matching starts from the code on the entry form rather than from the subject name. It sounds pedantic until a student spends four weeks on Cambridge 0620 structures for a Pearson 4CH1 paper, which happens in Sharjah households where siblings sit different boards.

Online because the specialist matters more than the postcode

A Khor Fakkan or Al Nahda family choosing locally is choosing from whoever is willing to drive. Choosing online means choosing a tutor who has marked that specific paper. For a Higher Level subject, that difference is the whole decision rather than a convenience.

Honest limits on coursework

A tutor here will narrow a research question, explain a criterion and comment on a draft, and will not write any part of an IA, Extended Essay, TOK essay or Personal Project. The limit is stated before you book, so nobody discovers it halfway through a submission week.

No invented numbers and no grade promises

Every AED figure on this page is attributed to the provider or source that published it. No success rate, satisfaction score or average grade is claimed, because none could be produced with a sample size and a method. No tutor can promise a grade, and anyone who does is selling something else.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Sharjah: your questions answered

Does Sharjah American International School teach the IB Diploma?+

Sharjah American International School runs an American programme, not the IB Diploma. Families searching for an IB or IGCSE tutor around the school are usually preparing for a move to an IB or British-curriculum school, entering a Cambridge IGCSE subject as a private candidate, or running two curricula across siblings. Check the current programme offering on the school's own site and with the emirate regulator before you plan, because school licences change. The tutoring question is the same either way: which qualification is the student actually going to be assessed in, and what does that assessment reward?

My child is on an American programme at SAIS, so can they sit Cambridge IGCSE as well?+

Yes, as a private candidate at an exam centre that accepts private entries. The practical steps are to choose the syllabus code, find a centre taking private candidates for that subject, and submit the entry before the centre's deadline, which falls months before the paper. Cambridge candidates in the UAE sit the June and November series. Budget for the entry fee separately from tuition, and confirm whether the subject has a practical component the centre can run, because some science specifications need a laboratory session that not every centre offers to private entries.

How do American letter grades compare with IGCSE grades 9 to 1?+

There is no official conversion, and anyone offering you a tidy table is guessing. The systems measure different things: a letter grade and GPA accumulate coursework over a semester, while an IGCSE grade comes from terminal papers marked to a published scheme. A student with an A average can land several grades below expectation on a first untimed-to-timed transition, almost always on technique rather than knowledge. The only reliable comparison is a real past paper sat under timing and marked against the scheme, which is why that is the first thing a tutor sets up.

Which IGCSE exam series do candidates in Sharjah actually sit?+

Cambridge International runs IGCSE and O Level exams in a June series and a November series, with Checkpoint tests in March, May and October. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in a May/June window and a November window. The February/March series you may find in search results is offered to India only and is not available to a candidate sitting in the UAE. Cambridge also places each exam centre in one of six administrative zones with its own timetable version, so always check the live official timetable for your centre's zone rather than a copy on a third-party site.

Do you send a tutor to our home in Al Majaz or Muwailih?+

No. IB Gram does not run home visits anywhere in the UAE; that service exists only in India. Every lesson for a Sharjah family is delivered online, one to one, over live video with a shared screen. The trade is deliberate. An in-home pool is limited to tutors willing to drive to your area at the time your child is free, while an online pool is limited only by the subject. For a Higher Level science or a specific Paper 6 skill, the second pool is the one with the right person in it.

What does IB and IGCSE tutoring cost per hour in Sharjah?+

The published market runs from roughly AED 33 to 65 an hour for budget online sessions, through AED 150 to 300 for a qualified subject tutor online, to AED 200 to 450 and above for an IB or IGCSE specialist. In-home visits sit at AED 180 to 500 once travel is priced in, and a premium named tier reaches AED 650. Those are figures the providers themselves publish. IB Gram quotes its own rate after the free trial lesson, with the session length and whether marking is included stated in writing, because an hourly rate without that detail cannot be compared.

What evidence will I actually see after four weeks of sessions?+

A baseline paper with a raw mark and the lost marks listed by topic, roughly eight marked questions with the mark scheme beside them, four sets of session notes naming what was covered, and an updated topic list showing which items have been cleared. That file is yours and you can show it to the school. If the list has not shortened in four weeks, that is a result too, and the honest response is to change the approach rather than to add more hours at the same rate.

Can a tutor help with my child's IB Internal Assessment draft?+

A tutor can narrow the research question until it is assessable, challenge the method, explain what a criterion descriptor is asking for, and comment on a draft by naming the criterion letter, the band the draft sits in, and what the band above requires. A tutor cannot write, rewrite or complete any part of it. The IB treats work that is not the candidate's own as malpractice and the consequence falls on the student, so a service offering a finished Internal Assessment is selling a risk rather than support.

Who regulates private schools in Sharjah, and why should a tutor care?+

The Sharjah Private Education Authority regulates private education in the emirate and approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. A tutor should care because it means the school's assessment calendar is approved rather than arbitrary, so the right question at the first session is what dates the school has set. SPEA is also where a parent can confirm that a school is licensed. IB Gram is not approved, accredited or licensed by SPEA and does not claim to be; no online tutoring platform should.

Coming off an American transcript, how many IGCSE passes will the Ministry want to see?+

The published British-track requirement is five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at a grade of no less than E or grade 3, plus one accredited Advanced Level subject at no less than E or two Advanced Subsidiary Level subjects at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are not counted among the five. One competing page states that six IGCSE subjects are required, which would mean paying for an entry you do not need. Verify your own case on the Ministry's own channel, because equivalency is something the Ministry performs and no tutoring service does.

What time can a session start if we live in Al Nahda and my child studies in Dubai?+

Plan for 19:00 or later on a weeknight. An Al Nahda household with a Dubai school place is usually dealing with a bus that arrives after 16:30, followed by food and school homework, so an earlier slot gets cancelled rather than attended. Friday afternoons and weekend mornings work better for a longer paper-practice block, since a whole timed paper needs an uninterrupted two hours. Sessions are set on Gulf Standard Time and the tutor is matched to a slot that holds week after week, because a moving slot is the main reason plans fail.

My child moves from SAIS to an IB school next academic year, so when should tutoring start?+

Start in the term before the move, not in the first week of the new school. The content gap is usually manageable; the gap in assessment habits is not, and it is easier to build in a quiet term than during DP1. A sensible first block is one subject bridged hard, usually Maths, plus an introduction to criterion marking and the vocabulary of Theory of Knowledge. Arriving already able to read a criterion descriptor changes the first Internal Assessment considerably, and the first Internal Assessment sets the tone for the rest of the year.

Can one tutor cover both IGCSE Physics and IB Chemistry for the same student?+

Sometimes, and it is worth asking rather than assuming. A tutor with a physical-sciences background can often cover IGCSE Physics 0625 and IB Chemistry at Standard Level competently. Higher Level Chemistry with an Internal Assessment is a different matter, and a student is better served by a specialist for that component even if it means two tutors. Where two tutors are used, they share the topic list and the session notes so the household runs one plan rather than two, and the scheduling is set so the two sessions do not land on the same evening.

Does a private tutor in Sharjah need a permit, and how do we check?+

Yes. A private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is issued through MoHRE free of charge for two years, and covers registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and students aged fifteen to eighteen. Individuals tutoring without it are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no official fine schedule has been published, so treat any specific amount you read online as unverified. Ask a tutor directly whether they hold the permit, and apply or verify through the MoHRE smart app or website.

What happens if no tutor covers the exact subject and level we need?+

You get told, before you pay. Some combinations are genuinely thin at any given moment, with Higher Level Further Mathematics, less common Language B options and specialist Group 3 subjects the usual examples. The honest options are to wait for a named date when a specialist is free, to start on an adjacent component that a current tutor can teach well, or to be told that we cannot help with this one. Taking a booking for a subject nobody on the platform teaches properly wastes the term that mattered.

Start with one marked paper

The fastest way to know whether tutoring will help your child is not a consultation; it is one past paper sat under timing and marked against the published scheme. That single hour tells you whether the marks are leaking at the content or at the command term, and those two problems need different plans and different lengths of commitment. Book the free trial lesson, bring the syllabus code from the school's entry form, and ask for the baseline in the first fortnight. Everything on this page, from the AED bands to the backwards calendar, exists so you can judge the answer yourself rather than take it on trust.
