IB DP Math AA HL Tutor in Sharjah

An IB DP Math AA HL tutor in Sharjah is a narrow thing to look for, and the pool in this emirate is genuinely small. Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level is the most demanding mathematics route in the Diploma: three written papers, an exploration worth a fifth of the grade, and content that does not appear at Standard Level at all. IB Gram teaches it live online, one-to-one, in Gulf Standard Time slots. This page covers the course, the AED the market charges, and what changes that figure in Sharjah.

  • Paper 1, Paper 2 and Paper 3 prepared separately, because they test different things
  • Live one-to-one video sessions in Gulf Standard Time, around the Sharjah school run

IB & IGCSE in Sharjah

Why AA HL tutors are hard to find in Sharjah, and what to do about it

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level is the IB's most demanding mathematics course. The IB recommends 240 teaching hours for a Higher Level subject against 150 at Standard Level, and that extra ninety hours is not revision of familiar material. It is complex numbers in polar and Euler form, proof by induction and contradiction, vectors with lines and planes in three dimensions, Maclaurin series, implicit differentiation, L'Hopital's rule and differential equations. None of that exists in AA SL.

Which creates a supply problem specific to this emirate. Sharjah's Diploma cohort is small. Victoria International School of Sharjah is the emirate's best-known IB continuum school, and a large number of Sharjah families send their children into Dubai IB schools instead, commuting daily from Al Nahda, Al Majaz and Al Taawun. A tutor who teaches AA HL properly, as opposed to teaching maths in general, is therefore a rare thing to find within driving distance of any particular Sharjah address.

That scarcity is the single strongest argument for online delivery, and it is not a marketing argument. IB Gram delivers AA HL support as live one-to-one video lessons. IB Gram does not run home visits in Sharjah or anywhere else in the UAE, because home visits are a service offered only in India. Maths works unusually well over video: a shared whiteboard holds working that both people can annotate, a graphing display can be mirrored directly, and the written solution survives the lesson rather than vanishing into a notebook.

The rest of this page is organised around money, because that is the decision most families are actually making. Private education in Sharjah is regulated by the Sharjah Private Education Authority, which u.ae describes as regulating private education in the emirate and which also approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. School fees are a known quantity; tutoring is not, because almost nobody in this market publishes a rate. Three of the six most visible providers researched publish no price at all, and two of the three that do quote in US dollars.

So below you will find the AED bands with the source of each figure named, a breakdown of what raises and lowers the number in Sharjah specifically, and an honest account of what the in-home premium buys here. There is no IB Gram price list on this page. Our quote follows a free trial lesson, once we know whether the problem is Paper 1 fluency, Paper 3 technique or an exploration that has not started. Those three need very different numbers of hours, and a figure offered before that question has been asked is not a quote so much as a guess. One other thing worth saying early: the IB blocks automated checking of its own pages, so no exam or results date appears anywhere on this page. Confirm every date with your school's IB coordinator or on ibo.org.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

AA HL sits at the end of a route rather than at the start of one, and the courses on either side of it decide how much ground a student has to make up. The grid below covers the Diploma, the programme that feeds it, and the alternatives families in Sharjah weigh against it.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IB Diploma Programme

Six subjects across two years, three at Higher Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity, Service. Mathematics is compulsory, which is why the AA HL decision is the one most likely to be made for the wrong reason: students pick it because it keeps options open rather than because the course suits them. Grades run 1 to 7 per subject, with bonus points from TOK and the Extended Essay.

Sharjah's Diploma cohort is smaller than Dubai's, and many students commute across the border to Dubai IB schools from Al Nahda and Al Majaz. That has two consequences for tutoring: a Sharjah student's school deadlines may run on a Dubai school's calendar, and a weekday session realistically starts after the return journey rather than at four in the afternoon.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP 1-5

IB Middle Years Programme

The five-year programme feeding the Diploma, with mathematics assessed against four criteria rather than by examination. Extended mathematics in MYP 4 and 5 is the intended preparation for AA HL. The transition catches students out because MYP rewards investigation and communication while AA HL Paper 1 rewards fast, accurate algebra without a calculator, and the second skill is not built by the first.

Where a Sharjah student has come through MYP at a continuum school, the gap to AA HL is usually algebraic fluency rather than conceptual understanding. A bridging block over the summer between MYP 5 and DP1, focused on manipulation without technology, is the cheapest intervention available and almost nobody buys it.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

IGCSE Mathematics and Additional Mathematics

The other common feeder, where students arrive from Cambridge 0580 Extended or Pearson 4MA1 Higher tier, sometimes with Additional Mathematics alongside. Students who took an additional maths qualification arrive in AA HL with calculus already seen and find DP1 manageable. Students who took only the core qualification meet differentiation, integration and radian measure in the same term and feel the course accelerate away from them.

Several Sharjah schools run a British route to Year 11 before students move into a Diploma elsewhere, so a student may change school and curriculum in the same September. Where that happens, a short diagnostic on algebraic fluency before DP1 begins saves a term of guessing at where the gaps are.

IALAges 16-18 · Years 12-13

International A Level Mathematics

The alternative sixth-form route some Sharjah families consider against AA HL. It is modular rather than terminal in structure, carries no compulsory investigative coursework and allows a student to concentrate on fewer subjects at depth. Against that, the Diploma gives a broader profile and the Extended Essay. Neither route is harder in the abstract; they are differently shaped and suit different students.

Where a family in Sharjah is weighing the two, the deciding factor is usually the destination rather than the maths. Ask the universities you are aiming at how they treat each qualification, and ask the school whether it can actually teach the subject combination you want, since a small cohort limits option blocks more than a prospectus admits.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

AA HL is five topic areas plus an exploration, and the HL-only content sits inside those areas rather than in a separate module. The grid below splits the course into the parts a tutor works on separately, with where each is examined.

Number and algebra

HL, including HL-only content

Sequences, series, the binomial theorem extended to rational exponents, logarithms, partial fractions, counting principles and complex numbers in Cartesian, polar and Euler form. Marks go missing on algebraic manipulation in Paper 1 rather than on understanding, because without a calculator every slip compounds through the rest of the question.

Functions

HL, including HL-only content

Transformations, rational functions with oblique asymptotes, modulus functions, inverse functions and solving inequalities including those involving absolute value. The HL demand is graphing by reasoning rather than by technology, which Paper 1 tests directly. Sketching a rational function from its asymptotes and intercepts is a drillable skill most students never practise.

Geometry and trigonometry

HL, including vectors

Trigonometric identities and equations, compound and double angle formulae, inverse trigonometric functions, and vectors extended to lines and planes in three dimensions with scalar and vector products. Three-dimensional vector geometry is where HL students most often lose whole questions, usually because the diagram was never drawn.

Statistics and probability

HL, including continuous distributions

Discrete and continuous random variables, probability density functions, expectation and variance, the binomial and normal distributions, conditional probability and Bayes' theorem. The HL content is procedurally heavy, which makes it reliable marks for a student who drills it and a dependable loss for one who treats it as reading.

Calculus

HL, the largest topic area

Limits, L'Hopital's rule, implicit differentiation, related rates, integration by substitution and by parts, volumes of revolution, Maclaurin series and differential equations including separation of variables and Euler's method. This is the heaviest single block of HL-only material and the one where DP2 students most often run out of teaching time at school.

Proof by induction and contradiction

HL only

Formal proof methods that do not appear at Standard Level. Induction in particular is a fixed structure with a small number of moves, which makes it among the most efficient marks in the course to secure. Students lose them by omitting the inductive step's explicit statement rather than by failing to understand the method.

Complex numbers in polar and Euler form

HL only

Modulus-argument form, De Moivre's theorem, roots of unity and connections to trigonometric identities. Conceptually unfamiliar and procedurally regular, which is a combination that rewards tutoring: once a student sees the geometry on an Argand diagram, the algebra tends to follow within two or three sessions.

Differential equations and numerical methods

HL only

Separation of variables, homogeneous substitutions, the integrating factor method and Euler's method for numerical solutions. These frequently appear in Paper 3 as the backbone of an extended investigation, so a student who has only met them as isolated techniques struggles when they arrive embedded in a longer problem.

The mathematical exploration

Internal assessment, 20% of the grade

An individual written investigation of roughly twelve to twenty pages, assessed against five criteria: presentation, mathematical communication, personal engagement, reflection and use of mathematics. It is a fifth of the final grade, it is the component students plan last, and use of mathematics carries the largest share of its marks.

Non-calculator fluency

Paper 1 specifically

Not a topic in the guide but the skill Paper 1 actually measures alongside the content. Exact values, surd and logarithm manipulation, differentiation by rule and algebraic rearrangement all have to be fast and accurate without technology. Students who rely on a graphing display through DP1 discover this in the DP2 mock, which is late.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways Sharjah families buy AA HL support, all delivered as live one-to-one video teaching. Which one fits depends on whether the loss sits in Paper 1 fluency, Paper 3 technique or the exploration.

Weekly one-to-one through DP1 and DP2

One or two sessions a week following the school's own scheme of work, with a problem set marked between sessions so the next lesson starts from written evidence. For a two-year course this is the cheapest route per mark, because the HL-only calculus arriving in DP2 lands on secure algebra rather than on gaps carried from the previous year.

  • Session timing built around the Dubai commute where it applies
  • A marked problem set between every session, returned before the next lesson
  • Non-calculator work kept running all year rather than revived in April

Paper 3 block in DP2

A separate short series on the Higher Level paper, which asks two extended problem-solving questions in an hour and carries a fifth of the grade. Students practise entering an unfamiliar investigation, choosing a first move, and writing enough to earn method marks even where the final answer does not arrive.

  • Full past Paper 3 questions attempted under the real time limit
  • Technique for the opening five minutes of an unfamiliar investigation
  • Differential equations and series practised inside extended problems, not in isolation

Exploration feedback block

Sessions on the internal assessment, worth 20% of the grade and usually planned last. The tutor unpacks the five criteria, helps test whether a topic carries enough mathematics for Higher Level, and gives written feedback on the student's own draft. The student writes every word and does every calculation.

  • Topic viability checked against the use of mathematics criterion before drafting
  • Feedback on the student's own draft, never content supplied for use
  • The school's internal deadlines mapped backwards into a working schedule

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Sharjah

01

What AA HL contains and how it is assessed

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level is examined through three written papers plus an exploration. Paper 1 allows no technology and runs two hours for 30% of the grade. Paper 2 requires a graphing calculator and also runs two hours for 30%. Paper 3 is Higher Level only: one hour, two extended problem-solving questions, 20% of the grade. The exploration carries the remaining 20%. A graphing calculator is required for the course and a formula booklet is supplied in the papers.

The content sits in five topic areas: number and algebra, functions, geometry and trigonometry, statistics and probability, and calculus. Higher Level does not add a sixth area. It deepens all five, and the additions are substantial: proof by induction and contradiction, complex numbers in polar and Euler form, three-dimensional vector geometry, Maclaurin series, implicit differentiation, L'Hopital's rule, continuous random variables and differential equations including Euler's method.

The split between Paper 1 and Paper 2 is the structural fact most students underestimate. The same topic is examined twice, once where every step has to be done by hand and once where a graphing display can do the heavy lifting. A student who has worked through DP1 leaning on technology can know the content and still lose a third of the available marks. Verify current weightings and durations with your child's IB coordinator or on ibo.org, since the IB blocks automated checking of its own pages and no date or figure should be taken from a tutoring site without confirmation.

Paper 3: the hour that decides the grade

  • One hour, two extended investigations, a fifth of the whole grade
  • Content comes from anywhere in the course, so technique beats topic revision
  • Try the smallest case before reaching for a general method
  • Never cross out working: method marks survive a wrong final answer

Paper 3 exists only at Higher Level and it is unlike the other two. One hour, two questions, and each question is an extended investigation that builds from an accessible opening into something genuinely demanding. The content is drawn from across the course, which means no topic list helps. What helps is technique for the first five minutes of a problem nobody has seen before.

The predictable failure is freezing on part (a). Students trained on Paper 1 and Paper 2 expect to recognise the question type, and a Paper 3 question is designed not to be recognisable. A student who waits for recognition loses the opening minutes and then rushes a question whose later parts depend on the earlier ones. The alternative is a habit: write down what is given, write down what is being asked, try the smallest case, look for a pattern, and only then reach for a general method.

The second predictable failure is writing too little. Paper 3 carries method marks through long chains of reasoning, so a student who reaches a dead end and crosses out their work throws away marks they had already earned. Showing the attempt, naming the method, and stating what was concluded even when the final answer does not arrive is worth real credit. Both habits are trainable in a short block of six to eight sessions using full past questions under the real time limit, which is why Paper 3 deserves its own series rather than a mention inside general revision.

03

Where AA HL marks are lost, topic by topic

The pattern across Higher Level cohorts is consistent enough to be worth tabulating. Losses cluster in a small number of places, and almost all of them are procedural rather than conceptual. A student who understands vectors in three dimensions still loses the question if the diagram was never drawn. A student who understands induction still loses marks by not stating the inductive step explicitly.

The most expensive loss across the whole course is non-calculator fluency. Paper 1 is 30% of the grade and it tests the same content as Paper 2 with the tools removed. Three terms of leaning on a graphing display produces a student who can do AA HL and cannot do Paper 1, and the first clear signal is usually a DP2 mock. Keeping non-calculator work running weekly from the start of DP1 costs almost nothing and prevents the single largest recoverable loss in the course.

The table below sets out where the marks go, paper by paper, with the fix in each case. None of these needs new content taught. They need a habit installed and then rehearsed under time, which is a different kind of session from the one most families imagine when they book a maths tutor. It is also why marked written work between sessions matters more here than discussion inside them. A student who nods through an explanation of integration by parts and then cannot execute it cold has learned nothing yet, and only a marked attempt reveals which of those two states they are in.

What DP maths tutoring costs in Sharjah, in AED

Monthly is the figure that matters, so start there. The Bestimate Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 rate table estimates a weekly one-hour session at AED 240 to 600 a month for budget tutoring, AED 600 to 1,200 for mid-range, and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. Advertised packages include AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home visits. For a two-year Higher Level course, that is the number to model rather than an hourly rate.

Hourly, the bands are distinct. Budget online tutoring is published from AED 45 to 150, with EdFlik listing from AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52. A qualified subject tutor online is AED 150 to 300, with Unitors listing IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. An IB specialist is AED 200 to 450 and above, with TutorChase publishing AED 270. In-home one-to-one visits across the UAE are quoted at AED 180 to 500 with travel included, and premium named tutors reach AED 650, as BartyED publishes.

For AA HL specifically, the useful observation is that the budget band rarely contains anybody who can teach the HL-only content. A university student can help with SL calculus; Maclaurin series, De Moivre's theorem and Euler's method need somebody who has taught the course. That is not an argument for the most expensive option either, since the premium band above AED 500 is largely brand and scarcity. The table below is the market, source by source, and none of it is an IB Gram price list.

What moves that number in Sharjah specifically

  • AA HL specialists are genuinely scarce within driving distance in this emirate
  • The Dubai commute pushes weekday sessions to 6pm and prices in-home travel
  • Exploration feedback, Paper 1 fluency and Paper 3 technique need very different hours
  • Ask whether written work is marked between sessions, and by whom

Four things change a Sharjah quote. The first is scarcity, and it is sharper here than in Dubai. The emirate's Diploma cohort is small and a share of it is enrolled across the border, so the number of people within driving distance who have actually taught AA HL to examination is low. Scarcity raises an in-home price and limits choice at any price, which is a worse problem than the cost.

The second is the commute. A Sharjah student attending a Dubai school is not home until five on a weekday, and a tutor travelling to Al Nahda or Al Taawun in that window is in the heaviest traffic in the country. The in-home band of AED 180 to 500 carries that journey. Remove it and the same hour of teaching sits in the AED 150 to 300 band, which is most of the gap between the two.

The third is which component the student needs. An exploration feedback block is a small number of sessions; rebuilding non-calculator fluency across all five topic areas is a year of weekly work; Paper 3 technique is a short intense series in DP2. Quoting before diagnosing is therefore meaningless, and a provider who gives you a figure before asking which it is has not looked at the problem. The fourth is what the hour contains: marked written work returned between sessions by the teaching tutor is a different product from an hour of conversation, and the market prices them as though they were the same.

06

Online one-to-one against the in-home visit Sharjah families are quoted

In-home tutoring deserves a fair comparison rather than a dismissal. It removes any technology question, suits a younger student who needs supervision as much as teaching, and gives a parent a visible sense of what happened in the hour. Those are real advantages, and they explain why the AED 180 to 500 band exists and why many Sharjah families instinctively ask for it first.

For AA HL the trade-off is unusually stark, because of who is available. A tutor who can reach Al Nahda by six in the evening is selected from the tutors who live near Al Nahda and have that evening free. On a course this specialised, that pool may contain nobody who has taught Paper 3. Online, the pool is every AA HL specialist available in a compatible time zone. For a student stuck on Maclaurin series, that is not a convenience difference; it is the difference between getting help and not.

IB Gram does not sell in-person tutoring in Sharjah, and states that rather than implying otherwise. Lessons run over live video with a shared whiteboard, which for mathematics is genuinely strong: working stays visible, both people annotate the same lines, a graphing display can be mirrored, and the solution is still available the next day. The comparison table below sets the models against each other on the terms that decide it in this emirate. Read the first row first: for a course with this little local supply, the pool a tutor is drawn from matters more than any other line in the table.

SPEA, the Sharjah school map and the MoHRE permit

  • SPEA regulates private education across Sharjah, including Kalba and Khor Fakkan
  • Sharjah's authority approves fees, curricula, programmes, courses and assessment methods
  • The MoHRE private tuition work permit is free of charge and valid for two years
  • No published fine schedule exists for unpermitted tutoring, so no figure should be quoted

Private education in Sharjah is regulated by the Sharjah Private Education Authority. The federal portal u.ae states that SPEA regulates private education in the emirate, and that Sharjah's and Ras Al Khaimah's authorities approve tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. That is a broader remit than inspection alone, and it extends across the emirate including the Kalba and Khor Fakkan exclaves on the east coast. SPEA is named by almost no tutoring page competing for these searches.

Private tutoring itself is regulated federally. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and covers teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18 and university students. The route is MoHRE's own service, Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system with a stated two-working-day completion time.

Anybody tutoring without that permit is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule has been published, so a specific amount quoted at you online should be treated as unverified. Two practical points for a Sharjah family: ask any prospective tutor whether they hold the permit, since it costs nothing and there is no reason not to, and do not arrange for your child to be privately tutored by a teacher at their own school, which is barred by the permit's code of conduct. IB Gram holds no approval or licence from SPEA, MoHRE or the International Baccalaureate.

08

The exploration: a fifth of the grade, planned last

The mathematical exploration carries 20% of the AA HL grade and is assessed against five criteria: presentation, mathematical communication, personal engagement, reflection and use of mathematics. Use of mathematics carries the largest single allocation, and at Higher Level the mathematics has to be commensurate with the course. A beautifully written exploration built on Standard Level content will be capped on the criterion that matters most, and students discover this after submission rather than before.

Which makes the topic choice the highest-leverage conversation in the whole component. The right test is not whether a topic is interesting but whether it carries enough HL mathematics to be developed rather than described. A tutor can and should help a student apply that test before any drafting begins, because a topic that fails it cannot be rescued by better writing later. Explorations in Sharjah frequently start too late, with the school's internal deadline arriving in the middle of DP2 mocks.

The honesty boundary is firm. A tutor may teach the mathematics, explain the criteria, question a plan, probe whether the mathematics is genuinely at Higher Level, and give written feedback on a draft the student has written. A tutor may not write, complete or produce any part of the exploration, nor perform its calculations. One provider found in this market sells completed internal assessments outright; that is a malpractice trigger and the consequence falls on the student whose name is on the work. IB Gram does not do it.

09

AA HL and engineering admission in the UAE

Many Sharjah families choose AA HL for a destination rather than for the mathematics, and the destination is often an engineering or computing programme. The emirate itself houses two of the country's larger universities, with the American University of Sharjah and the University of Sharjah both in University City, and families in Muwaileh and Al Zahia often have one of them in mind from DP1 onwards.

The honest position is that admission requirements are set by each university and each department, they change, and nobody should take them from a tutoring page. Ask the programme directly and ask in writing. What can be said generally is that analysis-heavy mathematics routes are the ones engineering, mathematics, physics and computing departments most often ask for, while applications-and-interpretation routes are more commonly accepted for business, social science and design programmes. Some departments accept either with a stated grade. Others do not.

Two cautions. Tutoring is not a requirement for admission to any programme, whatever urgency a tutoring advertisement implies, and IB Gram claims no influence over any admissions decision. And a student should not be pushed into AA HL purely to keep a door open: a 4 in AA HL and a 7 in AA SL are not equivalent signals, and the better outcome for a specific student may be the Standard Level course taken well. That conversation belongs with the school's Diploma coordinator before the option blocks close, and in a small Sharjah cohort the blocks close early because fewer combinations can be timetabled at all.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across Sharjah

What differs between Sharjah communities for a Diploma student is the commute, because a large share of the emirate's IB cohort travels into Dubai for school. The notes below cover what each area means for when an AA HL session can realistically start.

Al Majaz

Central Sharjah with a heavy daily flow into Dubai schools. A student leaving a Dubai campus at 3.15pm may not be home before five, so weekday AA HL sessions here are usually booked from 6pm onwards.

Al Nahda

The closest Sharjah district to the Dubai border and the heaviest commuter corridor in the emirate. Traffic rather than distance sets the timetable. Evening slots and weekend mornings carry almost all the Diploma tutoring booked here.

Al Khan

Coastal apartments with short journeys to central Sharjah schools but long ones to Dubai. Students attending school locally can manage a 4.30pm start, which for Paper 1 fluency work is a better hour than eight in the evening.

Muwaileh

A large schooling district with several big private schools and a young population. Many DP students here attend school within the emirate, so earlier slots are viable and families often book two shorter midweek sessions.

Al Qasimia

Established central district with a dense mix of schools and short school runs. Sessions commonly start between 4.30pm and 5.30pm, and siblings in different year groups are common enough that back-to-back slots are the norm.

University City

Home to the emirate's higher education campuses, so families here are unusually focused on university entry requirements. Conversations about AA HL in this area start with an engineering programme rather than with a grade.

Al Taawun

Towers along the lagoon, mostly apartment living, with another heavy commuting pattern into Dubai. A quiet room is the scarce resource rather than a desk, which makes a headset and a shared screen the practical set-up.

Khor Fakkan and Kalba

The emirate's east coast exclaves, regulated by SPEA like the rest of Sharjah but several hours from any Diploma specialist by road. For AA HL, online delivery is not a preference here; it is the only workable option.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Sharjah

IB and international schools inside Sharjah

A smaller Diploma cohort than Dubai's, with Victoria International School of Sharjah the emirate's best-known IB continuum school. Students we support attend schools across this group. Small cohorts mean option blocks are tighter, so a student wanting AA HL alongside two other Higher Levels may find the timetable, rather than their ability, is the constraint.

Dubai schools Sharjah families commute to

A substantial share of Sharjah's Diploma students cross into Dubai each morning, most often from Al Nahda, Al Majaz and Al Taawun. Those students run on a Dubai school's internal deadlines while living under SPEA's jurisdiction at home, and the return journey is what decides the earliest workable session time on a weekday.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the course, the year and the component

AA HL in DP1 and AA HL in the spring of DP2 are different jobs. Tell us the year, whether the school is in Sharjah or across the border in Dubai, and which of Paper 1 fluency, Paper 3 technique or the exploration is the live problem. That answer decides the plan more than any diagnostic test would.

  2. 02

Send one marked paper or problem set

A marked Paper 1 attempt shows whether the loss is algebraic or conceptual. A mock grade shows neither. We read the working rather than the total, which usually separates a fluency problem from a gap in HL-only content before the first lesson is scheduled.

  3. 03

Free trial lesson, then a plan in writing

A full-length lesson at no cost with the matched tutor, with no card details taken to reserve it. Afterwards you get a short written plan: what the tutor thinks is costing marks, what the first six sessions cover, and how many hours that implies for the rest of the course. The quote comes attached to that plan.

  4. 04

Weekly sessions with marked work in between

Live one-to-one video at a fixed Gulf Standard Time slot, chosen around the commute where one applies. A problem set from each session is marked before the next, so the lesson opens on written evidence. A short note follows each session rather than an end-of-term summary.

  5. 05

Re-plan after each mock and before Paper 3 season

Mocks are the honest data in DP2. When one lands the balance shifts: more non-calculator drilling if Paper 1 held the loss, more extended-investigation technique if Paper 3 did. If the tutor turns out to be the wrong match for your child, we change the tutor rather than asking you to continue.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The HL-only content is actually covered

Induction, complex numbers in Euler form, Maclaurin series, three-dimensional vector geometry and differential equations are the ninety hours that separate Higher Level from Standard Level. A tutor who cannot teach those is a Standard Level tutor, whatever the profile says. Our match is made on that content, not on a general maths background.

Paper 3 treated as its own discipline

A fifth of the grade sits in one hour of extended investigation, and most tutoring mentions it rather than preparing it. We run it as a separate block with full past questions under the real time limit, because the skill being tested is entering an unfamiliar problem, and that is practised rather than explained.

AED figures with the publisher named

Every band on this page is attributed to the provider or rate table that published it, from AED 45 at the budget end to AED 650 at the premium end. Most pages competing for this search publish no figure at all, and two of those that do quote in dollars. Our own number follows a free trial lesson.

Scarcity answered rather than hidden

There are not many people within driving distance of a Sharjah address who have taught AA HL to examination. Online delivery is how we solve that, and where no specialist is free in your preferred slot we say so and offer the nearest workable alternative instead of substituting a generalist.

The exploration boundary stated upfront

A tutor teaches the mathematics, explains the five criteria, tests whether a topic carries enough Higher Level content and comments on your child's own draft. Nothing is written or calculated for them. That line protects the certificate, it is the IB's rather than ours, and it appears here rather than after a payment.

Built around the Sharjah week

Sessions are scheduled in Gulf Standard Time around the Dubai commute where it applies, move to post-Iftar slots during Ramadan, and work as well for a family in Khor Fakkan as for one in Al Majaz. Weekend morning blocks are available in the run-up to the May session, when most families want extra hours.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Sharjah: your questions answered

How much does an IB DP Math AA HL tutor cost in Sharjah?+

Published market rates rather than ours: a qualified subject tutor online is advertised at AED 150 to 300 an hour, an IB specialist at AED 200 to 450 or more, an in-home visit at AED 180 to 500 with travel included, and premium named tutors at AED 500 to 650. Monthly, Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 estimates put a weekly hour at AED 240 to 600 budget, AED 600 to 1,200 mid-range and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. For AA HL the budget band rarely contains anybody who can teach the Higher Level content. IB Gram quotes after a free trial lesson.

Is Paper 3 sat only by Higher Level maths students?+

Yes. Paper 3 is a Higher Level component in both IB mathematics courses and Standard Level students do not sit it. It runs one hour, asks two extended problem-solving questions and carries 20% of the grade, which makes it worth as much as the exploration. The content is drawn from anywhere in the course, so revising topics does not prepare it; practising the entry into an unfamiliar investigation does. Confirm the current structure with your school's IB coordinator, because the IB blocks automated checking of its own pages and no figure should be taken from a tutoring site unverified.

How much of the AA HL grade sits in the exploration?+

The internal assessment carries 20%, the same share as Paper 3, and it is assessed against five criteria: presentation, mathematical communication, personal engagement, reflection and use of mathematics. Use of mathematics carries the largest single allocation and at Higher Level the mathematics has to match the level of the course, which is where otherwise well-written explorations get capped. The practical consequence is that topic choice matters more than writing quality, because a topic that cannot carry Higher Level mathematics cannot be rescued later. Check your school's internal deadline early, since it usually lands during DP2 mocks.

My son is in DP1 at a Sharjah school and already behind in AA HL. Is that recoverable?+

Usually yes, and DP1 is much the better time to act. The common cause is algebraic fluency rather than understanding: a student who came through MYP or a core IGCSE route meets differentiation, radians and logarithms in the same term and the course accelerates away. That is a gap in manipulation, and manipulation responds quickly to weekly marked problem sets. Leaving it until DP2 is harder, because the HL-only calculus arriving that year assumes the earlier fluency. A diagnostic on one marked Paper 1 attempt will show which it is within a single session.

Why is Paper 1 harder than Paper 2 when the content is the same?+

Because Paper 1 removes the graphing calculator and the same content then has to be done by hand with exact values. Surds, logarithms, differentiation by rule, algebraic rearrangement and sketching from reasoning rather than from a display all become the assessed skill. A student who leaned on technology through DP1 can know the whole course and still lose a large share of a paper worth 30% of the grade. Keeping a weekly non-calculator problem set running from the beginning of the course is the cheapest preventive measure in AA HL and almost nobody does it.

Which AA HL topics do not appear in AA SL at all?+

The Higher Level additions are substantial. Proof by induction and contradiction, complex numbers in modulus-argument and Euler form with De Moivre's theorem, vectors extended to lines and planes in three dimensions, Maclaurin series, implicit differentiation, related rates, L'Hopital's rule, integration by parts and volumes of revolution, continuous random variables with probability density functions, and differential equations including separation of variables, integrating factors and Euler's method. That is roughly where the extra ninety recommended teaching hours go. A tutor who has only taught Standard Level will not cover them, which is the single most important thing to check before booking.

Do engineering programmes at Sharjah universities expect Analysis and Approaches?+

Requirements are set by each university and each department, they change, and no tutoring page should be your source. Ask the programme directly and get the answer in writing. What can be said generally is that engineering, mathematics, physics and computing departments most often ask for the analysis-heavy route, while business, social science and design programmes more commonly accept applications and interpretation. The American University of Sharjah and the University of Sharjah are both in University City and both publish their own entry criteria. Tutoring is not a requirement for admission to any of them.

Can a tutor write part of my daughter's maths exploration?+

No, and any provider offering to is putting her certificate at risk rather than helping her. A tutor may teach the mathematics, explain the five criteria, question her plan, test whether her chosen topic carries enough Higher Level content and give written feedback on a draft she has written herself. A tutor may not produce text or perform the calculations that get submitted. One provider found in this market sells completed internal assessments; that is an academic-integrity breach and the consequence falls on the student. IB Gram does not supply exploration content in any form.

Our home is in Sharjah but our son studies in Dubai. Does that change session timing?+

It usually sets it. A student leaving a Dubai campus in the early afternoon and travelling home to Al Nahda, Al Majaz or Al Taawun is often not back before five, and a weekday session therefore starts at six or later. He also runs on a Dubai school's internal deadlines for the exploration and for mocks while living under SPEA's jurisdiction at home, which matters when planning a schedule. Because lessons are delivered over live video, none of this requires a tutor to make the same journey, which is most of the reason the model works for commuting families.

Does SPEA license the private tutor we hire in Sharjah?+

No, that is MoHRE. SPEA regulates private education in the emirate, and the federal portal notes that Sharjah's authority approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods, which is a wider remit than inspection. The tutor's permit is separate: the private tuition work permit under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, granted free of charge for two years through MoHRE's own service. Tutoring without it carries fines and penalties under the applicable laws, although no fine schedule is published, so treat any specific amount quoted online as unverified.

How many AA HL sessions a week do DP2 students in Al Majaz usually book?+

Most begin with one session a week in DP1 and move to two in DP2, with a short third weekly slot appearing during Paper 3 preparation and again while the exploration deadline approaches. Families in Al Majaz commonly take one weekday evening after the commute home plus a weekend morning, since a 4pm weekday start is not realistic for a student travelling back from a Dubai school. Starting earlier at a lower intensity moves more marks per dirham than starting late at a higher one, especially on a course where the content builds for two years.

Is proof by induction really examined in AA HL?+

Yes, and it is one of the most efficient sets of marks in the course to secure. Induction is a fixed structure with a small number of required moves: establish the base case, assume the statement for some value, prove it for the next, and state the conclusion. Students almost never lose these marks through misunderstanding. They lose them by using the inductive assumption without explicitly stating it, or by omitting the final concluding sentence. Learning to write all four moves every time is a one or two session job that pays back a full question on Paper 1.

What does the in-home premium buy for maths tutoring in Sharjah?+

Mostly travel and supervision. In-home visits in the UAE market are quoted at AED 180 to 500 an hour against AED 150 to 300 for a qualified tutor online, and in this emirate the gap is largely a drive through the heaviest traffic in the country at the hour families want. It also narrows the choice to tutors living nearby with a free evening, which on a course as specialised as AA HL can mean nobody who has taught Paper 3. IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE in any case; lessons run over live video.

Can AA HL sessions run for the November session as well as May?+

Yes. UAE schools predominantly sit the May session, and a November session also runs, which matters for students resitting or on a different school calendar. Specific IB exam and results dates are not published on this page on purpose: the IB blocks automated checking of its own pages, so any date you see on a tutoring site should be confirmed against ibo.org or your school's IB coordinator before you plan around it. What we can commit to is scheduling, including post-Iftar slots during Ramadan and weekend morning blocks in the final term.

Given how few AA HL tutors there are in this emirate, what if none is available when we need one?+

We tell you. The honest options are a different time in the same week, a specialist in a compatible time zone whose availability fits yours, or a short wait until one frees up after an exam session ends. What we will not do is put a general maths tutor into an AA HL brief and leave you to discover in February that Maclaurin series were never covered. Specialist availability in this emirate is genuinely limited, and disclosing that is more useful than a promise that cannot be kept.
