IB DP Math AI HL Tutor in Sharjah

Hiring an IB DP Math AI HL tutor in Sharjah is easy. Knowing within a month whether it is working is the hard part, and most families find out in a DP2 mock. This page is built around evidence instead: the artefacts you should have in your hands by week one, week three and week six, how to read a marked script, and how an exploration draft cycle should run. Applications and Interpretation at Higher Level, taught live one-to-one and online.

  • A marked artefact in your hands every week, not a verbal update at the door
  • Paper 3 modelling investigations rehearsed under the real one-hour limit
  • Matrices, graph theory and hypothesis testing taught by somebody who has examined them
  • Free trial lesson before payment, with no card details taken to reserve it

How to know whether AI HL tutoring is working, in weeks rather than terms

Applications and Interpretation at Higher Level is the IB's modelling-heavy mathematics course. Technology is required in all three written papers, the content runs from eigenvalues and transition matrices through graph theory and network algorithms to hypothesis testing and coupled differential equations, and 20% of the grade sits in an exploration the student writes themselves. It is a demanding course and it is also one where tutoring can look busy while achieving nothing.

That is the problem this page addresses. Most families in Sharjah buy maths tutoring and then wait for a report card to tell them whether it worked, which means a decision made in October gets evaluated in March. By then two terms of fees have gone and the recoverable window has narrowed. The alternative is to agree in advance what evidence should exist and when, and to look at it rather than at a grade.

Evidence in this subject is concrete. A marked problem set with comments on the working rather than the answers. A timed section of a past paper marked against the mark scheme. A one-page written plan naming the two topics being targeted and why. A full past paper at week six with the losses broken down by topic, comparable with the one from week one. An exploration topic tested against the use of mathematics criterion before any drafting begins. Each of those is something you can hold and read without knowing what a Voronoi diagram is.

IB Gram delivers AI HL support as live one-to-one video lessons. IB Gram does not run home visits in Sharjah or anywhere else in the UAE, because home visits are a service offered only in India. For an evidence-led approach the online format helps rather than hinders: the shared whiteboard keeps the working visible, marked scripts are returned as files rather than carried in a bag, and the written record of what was taught in week three is still there in week nine when you want to check it.

Private education in Sharjah is regulated by the Sharjah Private Education Authority, which the federal portal u.ae describes as regulating private education in the emirate, and which also approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. The Diploma cohort here is small and many students commute into Dubai schools from Al Nahda and Al Majaz. What that means for an AI HL family is that specialists are scarce locally, which makes it more important, not less, to check that the one you have found is actually producing evidence. Scarcity is the condition under which families accept the least proof, because the alternative appears to be nothing, and that is exactly when a written list of expected artefacts is worth most.

One deliberate omission: no IB examination or results date appears anywhere on this page. The IB blocks automated checking of its own pages, so any session or results date you read on a tutoring site has not been confirmed at source. Confirm every date with your school's IB coordinator or on ibo.org before planning a revision schedule around it.

At a glance

  • AI HL has three written papers, all requiring a graphing calculator, plus an exploration at 20%
  • Paper 3 is Higher Level only: two extended modelling investigations in one hour
  • AI HL-only content includes eigenvalues, transition matrices, graph theory and coupled differential equations
  • A comparable baseline needs two full papers marked the same way, roughly six weeks apart
  • No IB examination or results date appears on this page: confirm all dates on ibo.org or with your IB coordinator
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

AI HL sits inside a programme structure that decides how much time a student actually has for it. The grid below covers the Diploma, the career-related alternative, the programme that feeds it and the qualification most students arrive from.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IB Diploma Programme

Six subjects across two years with three at Higher Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity, Service. Mathematics is compulsory and taken from one of four courses. Choosing Applications and Interpretation at Higher Level is a deliberate decision rather than a default, since it is the least commonly timetabled of the four routes in many schools.

In Sharjah the cohort is small enough that an AI Higher Level block may not exist at every school, and some students end up in Analysis and Approaches because that is what the timetable offered. Ask the Diploma coordinator which maths blocks are actually running before option forms are returned, not afterwards.

CPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IB Career-related Programme

A framework combining Diploma courses with a career-related study, a reflective project and personal and professional skills. Where mathematics is taken as one of the Diploma courses within it, the assessment is identical to a full Diploma student's, including the exploration. The difference is the surrounding workload, which is shaped differently and usually leaves the internal assessment easier to schedule properly.

The Career-related Programme is far less widespread in the UAE than the Diploma, so check directly with any school you are considering rather than assuming availability. For tutoring purposes the maths requirement is unchanged: the same three papers and the same exploration criteria apply.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP 1-5

IB Middle Years Programme

The five-year feeder, with mathematics assessed against four criteria rather than by examination. MYP's emphasis on investigation and real-world application is closer to Applications and Interpretation than to Analysis and Approaches, which makes it a natural feeder into this course. What MYP does not build is speed with technology under examination time, and that gap shows in DP1.

Students coming through MYP at a Sharjah continuum school often take to AI HL modelling comfortably and then lose marks on calculator discipline: a correct answer written down with no record of what was entered. That is a two-session habit fix and it is worth doing in the first term rather than the last.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

IGCSE Mathematics

The commonest feeder from a British-curriculum school, usually Cambridge 0580 Extended or Pearson 4MA1 Higher tier. Both prepare a student well for the statistics and modelling side of AI HL and neither covers matrices, graph theory, hypothesis testing or calculus. The first year therefore introduces several genuinely unfamiliar branches of mathematics rather than deepening familiar ones.

Several Sharjah schools run a British route to Year 11 before students move into a Diploma, sometimes across the border in Dubai. Where a student changes school and curriculum in the same September, a marked diagnostic in the first fortnight is the fastest way to find out what actually transferred.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

AI HL covers five topic areas, and a large part of what sits inside them appears in no other IB mathematics course. The grid below splits it into the parts a tutor works on separately, with where each is examined.

Matrices, determinants and inverses

Higher Level only

Matrix algebra, determinants, inverses and matrix powers, used for solving systems and for geometric transformations. Procedurally regular once the notation settles, which makes it reliable marks. Students lose them by mis-ordering a product, since matrix multiplication does not commute and the error produces a plausible-looking wrong answer.

Eigenvalues, eigenvectors and transition matrices

Higher Level only

Eigenvalues and eigenvectors, powers of matrices, and transition matrices used to model systems that evolve in steps towards a steady state. This appears in no other IB maths course. It is conceptually unfamiliar and highly examinable, and a student who has seen the geometric meaning of an eigenvector handles the algebra far better.

Graph theory and network algorithms

Higher Level only

Adjacency matrices, walks and trees, minimum spanning trees by Kruskal's and Prim's algorithms, the Chinese postman problem and the travelling salesman problem with nearest-neighbour and lower-bound methods. Algorithmic rather than analytic, so marks come from executing a procedure cleanly and showing every step.

Voronoi diagrams and spatial reasoning

Standard and Higher Level

Constructing Voronoi diagrams, perpendicular bisectors, nearest-neighbour interpolation and the largest-empty-circle problem. Visual and quick to learn, and a common source of straightforward marks. Students lose them through imprecise construction rather than misunderstanding, which practice on squared axes fixes quickly.

Functions and model choice

Higher Level

Linear, exponential, logarithmic, trigonometric, logistic and piecewise models, with parameters estimated from data. The assessed skill is choosing a model and justifying the choice, not just fitting it. Students who reach for the model they saw last week, rather than reading the behaviour of the data, lose the justification marks every time.

Geometry, trigonometry and vectors

Higher Level

Three-dimensional geometry, trigonometry in context, and vectors applied to position, velocity and kinematics including scalar and vector products. Context-heavy and diagram-dependent: questions set on a real situation are lost by students who start calculating before drawing anything.

Regression and the coefficient of determination

Higher Level

Least-squares and non-linear regression, Spearman's rank correlation, and interpretation of the coefficient of determination. The marks sit in interpretation rather than computation, since the calculator does the fitting. Confusing correlation with causation in a written interpretation is the loss examiners see most often.

Hypothesis testing

Higher Level

Chi-squared tests for independence and goodness of fit, and t-tests, with hypotheses stated, a significance level chosen and a conclusion written in context. Highly structured, so it is efficient to secure. Students lose marks by concluding in statistical language without translating the result back into the situation it came from.

Calculus and differential equations

Higher Level

Differentiation and integration in applied contexts, numerical methods, differential equations solved with Euler's method, coupled systems and phase portraits. This is the heaviest HL-only block after matrices and frequently where DP2 students run out of taught time at school.

The mathematical exploration

Internal assessment, 20% of the grade

An individual written investigation marked out of 20 across five criteria, with use of mathematics carrying the largest allocation. In AI the data-led topics available are an advantage and a trap: real data is easy to find and easy to describe without developing any Higher Level mathematics from it.

Calculator discipline across all three papers

Papers 1, 2 and 3

Every AI paper allows technology, which means every paper rewards recording what was entered. A numerical answer standing alone can lose the method marks behind it. Writing the equation, integral or test being run before reading off the value is the single cheapest habit available in this course.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways Sharjah families buy AI HL support, all delivered as live one-to-one video teaching, and all producing a written artefact each week rather than a verbal update.

Weekly one-to-one with a marked artefact each week

One or two sessions a week following the school's scheme of work, with a problem set or timed section marked between sessions and comments written on the working rather than the answers. The point is not the lesson. It is that by week six you have two comparable marked papers and can see whether anything moved.

  • A marked piece of written work returned before every session
  • Comments on the working, so a method error is distinguishable from an arithmetic slip
  • A topic breakdown of losses kept running across the whole engagement

Paper 3 modelling block in DP2

A separate short series on the Higher Level paper, which asks two extended modelling investigations in an hour and carries a fifth of the grade. Students practise entering an unfamiliar scenario, choosing and justifying a model, and writing enough to earn method marks when the final figure does not arrive.

  • Full past Paper 3 questions attempted under the real one-hour limit
  • Model choice justified in writing every time, not assumed
  • Every calculator step recorded, so method marks survive a wrong answer

Exploration draft cycle

A structured sequence on the internal assessment: criteria explained, two or three topic ideas tested against the use of mathematics criterion, a structure questioned, then written feedback on the student's own full draft. The student writes every word and performs every calculation, and the cycle is designed so that is verifiable.

  • Topic viability tested before any drafting begins
  • Written feedback against all five criteria on the student's own draft
  • No text, structure or calculation supplied for the student to use

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Sharjah

01

What progress in AI HL looks like, week by week

Agree the evidence before the first lesson, because afterwards every conversation becomes a judgement about effort rather than about output. The useful question to put to any tutor in this market is simple: what will I have in my hands at the end of week one, week three and week six, and what will each of those things tell me? A tutor with an answer has a plan. A tutor without one is selling hours.

The reason six weeks matters is that one marked paper is a single data point. A student can score badly because of a topic they had not yet been taught, or well because the paper happened to favour the two topics covered that fortnight. Two full papers marked the same way, several weeks apart, with the losses broken down by topic, is the first thing in this process that can honestly be called a baseline and a comparison.

The table below sets out the artefacts and what each proves. Note the final column, which is the honest half of the picture: a marked diagnostic in week one proves the tutor can diagnose, and proves nothing at all about whether the grade will move. Anybody offering certainty about an outcome at week one is describing a sales process rather than a teaching one. Keep the artefacts in one folder as they arrive. Three months in, that folder is the only record that can settle an argument about whether the arrangement is earning its cost, and it takes no effort to assemble if the pieces were produced as they went.

What exists in AI HL and in no other IB maths course

Applications and Interpretation at Higher Level is not a lighter version of anything. It contains whole branches of mathematics that appear in none of the other three IB maths courses, and that has a direct practical consequence: a tutor experienced in Analysis and Approaches may never have taught half of this syllabus. Checking which of these topics a prospective tutor has taught to examination is the single most useful screening question available.

The distinctive content falls into a few groups. Matrices, with determinants, inverses, powers, eigenvalues and eigenvectors, and transition matrices modelling systems moving towards a steady state. Graph theory, with adjacency matrices, minimum spanning trees by Kruskal's and Prim's algorithms, the Chinese postman problem and the travelling salesman problem. Hypothesis testing, with chi-squared and t-tests. Differential equations solved numerically with Euler's method, including coupled systems and phase portraits. Voronoi diagrams and the spatial reasoning around them.

Much of this is algorithmic rather than analytic, which changes how it should be taught and marked. A network algorithm earns marks for being executed cleanly with every step shown, not for elegance. A hypothesis test earns marks for stating the hypotheses, choosing a significance level and writing a conclusion in the context of the original situation. These are procedures a student can be drilled on and then checked against, which fits an evidence-led approach well: the marked script shows immediately whether the procedure is intact. The table below pairs each distinctive topic with the loss it produces and with what a marked attempt reveals, which is the level of detail a weekly artefact should be giving you.

The three papers, and why none of them bans the calculator

AI HL is assessed through three written papers plus the exploration. Paper 1 runs two hours and carries 30% of the grade. Paper 2 runs two hours and carries 30%. Paper 3 runs one hour, asks two extended problem-solving questions and carries 20%. The exploration carries the remaining 20%. Unlike Analysis and Approaches, technology is required throughout: there is no non-calculator paper in this course.

That single difference reshapes what tutoring should target. In Analysis and Approaches the most common hidden loss is calculator dependence exposed by a technology-free paper. In Applications and Interpretation the equivalent loss is calculator opacity: a student who finds the right answer and writes only the answer, leaving the marker unable to see what was solved. The method marks behind that figure are then unavailable, and the student has no idea it happened until a marked script says so.

Which is why the artefact matters more here than the explanation. A student who has been told to record their calculator steps will agree that it is sensible and continue not doing it. A student whose marked script has three questions where a correct final answer scored partial marks changes the habit within a fortnight. Confirm current weightings and durations with your school's IB coordinator or on ibo.org, since the IB blocks automated checking of its own pages and nothing here should be taken on a tutoring site's word. The structure itself is stable enough to plan around: three papers all permitting technology, and a fifth of the grade in an exploration written outside the examination hall.

Reading a marked script: what the working tells a parent

  • Marks lost at the end of long questions usually mean time, not knowledge
  • A right answer with no working is lost method marks and the quickest fix available
  • Losses in one or two topics are good news: a clear target exists
  • Losses spread evenly across all topics point at technique rather than content

You do not need to understand eigenvectors to read a marked AI HL script usefully. What you are looking for is the shape of the losses, and four patterns are visible to anybody. The first is marks lost at the end of long questions rather than at the start, which usually means time rather than knowledge. The second is correct final answers with no working above them, which is the calculator-opacity problem and is the fastest thing in this course to fix.

The third pattern is losses concentrated in one or two topics with everything else intact. That is good news, because it is a teaching problem with a clear target, and the plan should name those topics explicitly by week four. The fourth is losses scattered evenly across every topic at a similar rate, which usually points at something general: examination technique, reading the question, or a student who has been keeping up with class work but never consolidating it.

The question to ask a tutor about a marked script is which of those four patterns they see, and what the next three sessions will do about it. A tutor who answers in terms of needing to work harder has not read the script. A tutor who says the losses sit in network algorithms and hypothesis-test conclusions, and that the next three sessions will drill both with a timed check in week three, has. That is the difference you are paying for, and it is audible in one conversation.

05

Paper 3: a modelling investigation, not a puzzle

Paper 3 exists only at Higher Level and it is unlike the other two papers in this course. One hour, two questions, each an extended investigation that opens accessibly and builds. In Applications and Interpretation those investigations are usually modelling scenarios: a situation is described, data or a structure is given, and the student has to choose an approach, carry it through and comment on what it means.

Two failures recur. The first is freezing at the opening, because a student trained on Papers 1 and 2 waits to recognise the question type and a Paper 3 scenario is designed not to be recognisable. The habit that fixes it is mechanical: write down what is given, write down what is asked, do the smallest case, look for the structure, then choose a method. The second failure is abandoning working after a dead end. Method marks run through long chains of reasoning here, so crossing out a wrong attempt discards marks that had already been earned.

Both are trainable, and both are trained by attempting full past questions under the real one-hour limit and then reading the marked script. Six to eight sessions is a realistic block. The evidence that it is working is specific and visible: the first attempt usually has a blank opening and an abandoned second question, and by the fourth attempt there is writing in both, including in the parts the student could not finish. That change appears on paper weeks before it appears in a grade.

06

The exploration draft cycle, and the line a tutor cannot cross

The exploration carries 20% of the AI HL grade and is marked out of 20 across five criteria: presentation, mathematical communication, personal engagement, reflection and use of mathematics. Use of mathematics carries the largest allocation, and in this course there is a specific trap attached to it. Real data is easy to find, and an exploration can describe a data set at length while developing almost no Higher Level mathematics from it. Topic choice therefore sets the ceiling.

There is also an integrity line, and in this market it is not hypothetical. One provider found in this research sells completed internal assessments outright. That is an academic malpractice trigger, and the consequence falls on the student whose name is on the submission rather than on the business that took the payment. A tutor teaches, explains the criteria, questions a plan and comments on a draft. A tutor does not produce text or perform the calculations that are submitted.

The table below sets out the draft cycle stage by stage, with what the student does, what a tutor may do and what a tutor may not. It is published here so that a parent can check the arrangement they are buying against it, including with us. The practical point is that this division of labour is also the one that scores better: an exploration carrying a tutor's phrasing reads unlike the rest of a student's work, and a teacher who has taught them for two years notices immediately.

What you can verify about cost yourself, in AED

Cost claims in this market are almost entirely unverifiable, which is odd given how checkable the underlying numbers are. Three of the six most visible providers researched publish no price at all, and two of the three that do quote in US dollars rather than the currency a Sharjah family actually transacts in. So rather than another rate card, here is each common claim alongside what you can ask to test it and what the published market says.

The figures themselves are not in dispute. Budget online tutoring is published from AED 45 to 150 an hour, with EdFlik listing from AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52. A qualified subject tutor online is AED 150 to 300, with Unitors listing IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. An IB specialist is AED 200 to 450 and above, with TutorChase publishing AED 270. In-home one-to-one visits across the UAE are quoted at AED 180 to 500 with travel included, and premium named tutors reach AED 650, as BartyED publishes.

Monthly, the Bestimate Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 estimates for a weekly one-hour session run AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 mid-range and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support, with in-home packages advertised at AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour visits and online packages around AED 799 a month for eight sessions. Every figure belongs to the provider named beside it and none is an IB Gram price. Our own number follows a free trial lesson, because the hours depend on which of Paper 3, the HL-only content or the exploration is the live problem.

SPEA, University City and where AI HL actually leads

  • SPEA regulates private education across Sharjah, including the east coast exclaves
  • Sharjah's authority approves fees, curricula, programmes, courses and assessment methods
  • The MoHRE private tuition work permit is free of charge and valid for two years
  • University entry requirements come from the programme's own page, not from a tutoring site

Private education in Sharjah is regulated by the Sharjah Private Education Authority. The federal portal u.ae states that SPEA regulates private education in the emirate, and that Sharjah's and Ras Al Khaimah's authorities approve tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods, which is a wider remit than inspection alone. That coverage extends across the emirate including the Kalba and Khor Fakkan exclaves on the east coast. Almost no tutoring page competing for these searches names SPEA at all.

Private tutoring itself is regulated federally. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and covers teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18 and university students. MoHRE's own service is Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, applied for through its smart app, website and e-services system with a stated two-working-day completion time. Tutoring without the permit carries fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and since no fine schedule is published, any specific amount quoted at you is unverified.

On destinations, the honest position is that requirements are set by each university and department, they change, and no tutoring page should be the source. The American University of Sharjah and the University of Sharjah both sit in University City and both publish their own criteria. Generally, Applications and Interpretation is more commonly accepted for business, economics, psychology, design and data-facing programmes, while engineering, mathematics and physics departments more often specify an analysis route. Ask the programme directly and in writing. Tutoring is not a requirement for admission anywhere, and IB Gram claims no influence over any admissions decision.

09

What progress does not look like, and the claims to refuse

An evidence-led approach also means knowing which evidence is worthless, and this market supplies plenty of it. No tutor can guarantee a grade, a score, a 7 or a specific improvement, and anybody offering one is describing a marketing position rather than a teaching method. Treat a promised outcome as a reason to walk away rather than as reassurance, however confidently it is presented.

Three more claims deserve the same treatment. A star rating a provider has written about itself is not evidence; two of the pages researched for this project publish contradictory review figures on the same page, one of them alongside a student count the ratings could not support. A statistic without a sample size, a date and a method is not evidence either, so a figure such as ninety-six per cent satisfaction tells you nothing you can check. And a claim of approval, accreditation or partnership from KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, MoHRE, the Ministry of Education or the International Baccalaureate should be tested by asking for the permit or centre number, because these bodies license schools and training institutes rather than endorsing tutoring platforms. IB Gram holds none of them and says so.

What is left after all that is unglamorous and checkable. A marked script with comments on the working. Two comparable papers six weeks apart with the losses broken down by topic. A written plan naming the targets. An exploration topic tested against a criterion before a word is drafted. Those are small, dull, verifiable things, and they are what the difference between a 4 and a 6 in this course is actually made of.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across Sharjah

What differs between Sharjah communities for an AI HL student is when a weekly slot can hold reliably, which matters because evidence only accumulates if the sessions actually happen. The notes below cover the practical picture.

University City

Home to the emirate's higher education campuses, so families here think in destinations and ask for progress evidence earlier than most. Afternoon slots work for locally schooled students, and written session notes get read rather than filed.

Muwaileh

A dense schooling district with short school runs and several large private schools. Earlier slots are realistic here, which suits the marked-paper work that needs a student still alert rather than winding down.

Al Zahia

Newer community with young families, mostly schooled within the emirate. Fixed term-long slots hold well here, and a reliable weekly slot is what makes a week-by-week evidence trail possible at all.

Al Khan

Coastal apartments with short journeys to central Sharjah schools and long ones across the border. Locally schooled students manage a 4.30pm start; commuters do not, and the difference decides whether a timed paper gets attempted properly.

Al Taawun

Lagoon-side towers with a heavy commuting pattern into Dubai. A quiet room is the scarce resource, so marked work is often reviewed on a shared screen with headphones rather than at a family table.

Al Majaz

Central and heavily commuter-oriented. A student returning from a Dubai campus is rarely home before five, so sessions start at six and full timed papers get attempted at weekends rather than on a weekday evening.

Al Nahda

The emirate's busiest corridor into Dubai, where traffic rather than distance sets the schedule. Evening slots and weekend mornings carry almost all the Diploma tutoring booked here, and consistency beats session length.

Khor Fakkan

On the east coast, regulated by SPEA like the rest of Sharjah but hours by road from any Diploma specialist. Video delivery is the only route to an AI HL specialist here, and marked work arriving as files rather than paper is what makes it work.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Sharjah

University City and the Muwaileh corridor

Where most of the emirate's recent school capacity sits, alongside the higher education campuses. Students we support attend schools across this corridor. Larger year groups mean written work is marked less often than in a small cohort, which is precisely the gap an evidence-led tutoring arrangement fills.

  • American School of Creative Science
  • Emirates National School Sharjah
  • GEMS Millennium School Sharjah
  • Delhi Private School Sharjah

Central and coastal Sharjah

The emirate's older schooling districts plus the coastal communities, with a wide mix of curricula in a short radius and Victoria International School of Sharjah the best-known IB continuum school. Small Diploma cohorts here mean a student may be one of very few taking Applications and Interpretation at Higher Level.

  • Victoria International School of Sharjah
  • Sharjah English School
  • The Westminster School Sharjah
  • Sharjah American International School
  • Australian International School Sharjah

Schools are named here only as context for the Sharjah education market. IB Gram is an independent tutor-matching platform with no affiliation to, endorsement from or partnership with any school, school group or the International Baccalaureate.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Agree the evidence before the first lesson

Tell us the year, the school and which component is the live problem, and we will tell you what you should be holding at the end of week one, week three and week six. That list is the contract. If the artefacts do not appear, you have a concrete reason to change something rather than a feeling that it is not working.

  2. 02

Send one marked paper or problem set

A marked script shows the shape of the losses: at the end of long questions, or answers without working, or concentrated in one topic, or spread evenly. Each of those four patterns leads to a different first six sessions, and none of them is visible in a mock grade.

  3. 03

Free trial lesson, then a written plan

A full lesson at no cost with the matched tutor, with no card details taken to reserve it. Afterwards you get a one-page plan naming the two topics being targeted, the habit being changed and the check that will test it. The quote comes attached to the plan rather than before it exists.

  4. 04

Weekly sessions, with a marked artefact each week

Live one-to-one video at a fixed Gulf Standard Time slot, chosen around the commute where one applies and moved to post-Iftar timing during Ramadan. Written work from each session is marked before the next by the teaching tutor, with comments on the working rather than a tick and a total.

  5. 05

Compare at week six, then re-plan

A second full paper marked the same way as the first, with the losses broken down by topic. That comparison is the first honest read on whether the arrangement is working. If it is not, we change the plan or the tutor rather than asking you to wait for a report card to confirm it.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Evidence agreed in advance

A named list of artefacts for week one, week three and week six, settled before the first lesson. Most tutoring is evaluated by a report card two terms later, which is far too late to change anything. Agreeing what should exist, and when, is free and it is the single most useful thing a parent can insist on.

The AI HL-only content actually taught

Eigenvalues, transition matrices, graph theory, network algorithms, hypothesis testing and Euler's method with coupled systems appear in no other IB maths course. A tutor trained on Analysis and Approaches may never have taught any of them. Our match is made on that content, and you are welcome to ask which topics a tutor has taken to examination.

Marking on the working, not the answer

Every AI paper allows technology, which makes recording the step entered a scored habit. Comments written on the working show whether a loss was method, interpretation or arithmetic. A tick and a total cannot distinguish those, and a student cannot change a habit they have not seen cost them marks.

Paper 3 rehearsed, not mentioned

A fifth of the grade sits in one hour of extended modelling investigation. We run it as its own block with full past questions under the real time limit, because the skill being tested is entering an unfamiliar scenario. The progress is visible on paper: writing appears in the parts the student previously left blank.

The exploration boundary published

The draft cycle on this page sets out stage by stage what the student does, what a tutor may do and what a tutor may not. It is published so you can check any arrangement against it, ours included. Nothing is written or calculated for your child, which protects the certificate and scores better anyway.

No claims we cannot evidence

No guaranteed grade, no self-written star rating, no statistic without a sample size and a date, and no claim of approval from SPEA, MoHRE or the International Baccalaureate, since IB Gram holds none. Where no specialist is free in your slot we say so and offer the nearest workable option instead of filling the gap quietly.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Sharjah: your questions answered

How will I know within a month whether AI HL tutoring is working?+

Agree the artefacts before the first lesson. By the end of week one you should hold a marked diagnostic that says which of method, interpretation or calculator technique is failing. By week three, a timed section of a past paper marked to the mark scheme. By week four, a one-page plan naming the two topics being targeted. By week six, a second full paper marked the same way as the first with losses broken down by topic. That comparison is the first honest read available, and it arrives two terms before a report card would.

Which AI HL topics appear in no other IB mathematics course?+

Matrices with determinants, inverses, powers, eigenvalues and eigenvectors, and transition matrices for systems evolving towards a steady state. Graph theory with adjacency matrices, minimum spanning trees by Kruskal's and Prim's algorithms, the Chinese postman problem and the travelling salesman problem. Hypothesis testing with chi-squared and t-tests. Differential equations solved numerically with Euler's method, including coupled systems and phase portraits. Voronoi diagrams and the spatial reasoning around them. A tutor trained on Analysis and Approaches may never have taught any of these, so ask which they have taken to examination.

Does Applications and Interpretation have a paper without a calculator?+

No. Technology is required throughout all three AI papers, which is one of the clearest differences from Analysis and Approaches. That changes where marks are lost: instead of calculator dependence exposed by a technology-free paper, the recurring loss is calculator opacity, where a student finds the right answer and writes only the answer. The method marks behind it then cannot be awarded because the marker cannot see what was solved. Writing down the equation, integral or test being run before reading off the value is the cheapest habit available in this course.

How do I read a marked AI HL script if I do not understand the mathematics?+

Look for the shape of the losses rather than the content. Marks lost at the end of long questions usually mean time rather than knowledge. Correct final answers with no working above them are lost method marks and the quickest thing to fix. Losses concentrated in one or two topics are good news, because a clear target exists. Losses spread evenly across every topic point at technique: reading the question, examination pacing, or keeping up with class work without consolidating it. Then ask the tutor which pattern they see and what the next three sessions will do about it.

What makes Paper 3 in Applications and Interpretation different from Papers 1 and 2?+

It asks two extended investigations in one hour and carries 20% of the grade, and in this course those investigations are usually modelling scenarios rather than abstract puzzles. A situation is described, data or a structure is supplied, and the student chooses an approach, carries it through and comments on what the result means. The content can come from anywhere, so revising topics does not prepare it. Practising entry into an unfamiliar scenario does: write what is given, write what is asked, do the smallest case, then choose a method.

Why do students lose marks on network algorithms when they know the method?+

Because the marks are awarded for the procedure being visible, not for the final route being right. A student running Kruskal's algorithm in their head and writing down the spanning tree loses the steps that carried the credit. The same applies to the travelling salesman problem, where upper and lower bounds get confused and the written reasoning is what distinguishes them. Algorithmic topics reward clean, complete execution on paper, which is exactly the kind of thing a marked script exposes in one reading and a conversation about effort never will.

What is the trap with data-led explorations in Applications and Interpretation?+

Real data is easy to find and easy to describe at length without developing any Higher Level mathematics from it. The use of mathematics criterion carries the largest share of the twenty available marks, so an exploration that collects a data set, draws graphs and computes summary statistics will be capped regardless of how well it is written. Topic choice sets the ceiling. Test any idea against that criterion before drafting begins: ask what Higher Level mathematics the topic will force you to develop, and if the answer is vague, change the topic.

Exactly where does a tutor have to stop on my child's exploration?+

At feedback. A tutor may ask whether a topic can carry Higher Level mathematics, explain each of the five criteria, question a structure, point to gaps in reasoning, give written feedback against the criteria on a draft your child has written, and confirm later whether that feedback was addressed. A tutor may not hand over a topic with a method, supply the structure, rewrite paragraphs, correct the calculations or edit a draft to completion. One provider in this market sells completed internal assessments; the consequence of that falls on the student. IB Gram does not do it.

What should I ask to test a tutoring provider's cost claim in Sharjah?+

Four questions. What is the AED figure per sixty minutes, in writing. What is the monthly cost of one session a week. Which AI HL-only topics has the tutor taught to examination. Is individual written work marked, and by the person teaching the lesson. Against those, the published market is: budget online AED 45 to 150, qualified subject tutor AED 150 to 300, IB specialist AED 200 to 450 or more, in-home AED 180 to 500 with travel. Monthly estimates run AED 240 to 600, AED 600 to 1,200 and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more by band.

Is a promised grade improvement ever a reasonable thing to accept?+

No tutor can guarantee a grade, a score or a specific improvement, and an offer of one is a reason to decline rather than reassurance. The same applies to a star rating a provider has written about itself, and to any statistic published without a sample size, a date and a method. Two of the pages researched for this project show contradictory review figures on the same page. What can honestly be offered is a method, an evidence trail and a willingness to change the plan or the tutor when the evidence says to.

How many AI HL sessions a week do students in Muwaileh usually take?+

Most start at one a week in DP1 and move to two in DP2, with a short additional slot appearing during the Paper 3 block and again while the exploration draft cycle runs. Families in Muwaileh can often hold an earlier weekday slot than those commuting back from Dubai schools, which matters because marked-paper work needs a student still alert. Consistency does more than volume here: a weekly slot that holds for two terms produces an evidence trail, while four sessions crammed into April produce only an opinion.

Do Sharjah universities accept Applications and Interpretation at Higher Level?+

Requirements are set by each university and each department, they change, and no tutoring page should be your source. The American University of Sharjah and the University of Sharjah both sit in University City and both publish their own criteria, so ask the specific programme and get the answer in writing. Generally, Applications and Interpretation is more commonly accepted for business, economics, psychology, design and data-facing programmes, while engineering, mathematics and physics departments more often specify an analysis route. Tutoring is not a requirement for admission to any programme.

Can a tutor in Khor Fakkan work with my child, or is the east coast a problem?+

For an online arrangement the east coast makes no difference at all, which is most of the argument for it here. Khor Fakkan and Kalba are regulated by SPEA like the rest of Sharjah but sit hours by road from any Diploma specialist, so an in-home arrangement for a course this specialised is not realistic. Lessons run over live video, marked scripts arrive as files rather than in a bag, and the evidence trail is identical to a family in Al Majaz. IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE.

My son is in DP1 and his marks are inconsistent rather than low. What does that mean?+

Usually that the losses are technique rather than content, which is the better of the two problems to have. Inconsistency across topics at a similar rate points at reading the question, examination pacing, or keeping up with class work without ever consolidating it. Inconsistency between papers on the same content points at calculator discipline. A marked diagnostic separates those two within a single session, and both respond faster than a genuine content gap would. DP1 is also much the better time to act, because the course content builds for two years.

What happens to the evidence trail during Ramadan and the exam term?+

It continues, with the timing changed. School days shorten during Ramadan and late-afternoon concentration drops, so sessions move to post-Iftar slots or to late morning at weekends, and because lessons run over live video that change takes one message. Timed papers get scheduled for weekend mornings rather than weekday evenings, since a full paper attempted when a student is tired produces misleading evidence. Through the exam term the artefacts shift from problem sets towards full marked papers with topic breakdowns, which is what the final weeks should be measured by.
