IB Internal Assessment Help in Dubai

IB internal assessment help in Dubai, delivered one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. Internal assessment is the part of the Diploma a student controls completely, and it is also the part Dubai schools have the least timetable room to teach properly. A session works on the criteria letters, the data, the word count and the reflection, on your child's own file, in your child's own words.

  • Criterion-by-criterion feedback on the student's own draft
  • Weightings and word limits for every DP subject group

IB & IGCSE in Dubai

Internal assessment is where a Dubai Diploma grade is quietly decided

A Diploma student sits examinations for a few weeks and works on internal assessment for roughly two years. In most DP subjects the IA is worth between 20% and 25% of the final grade, and in a handful of courses it is worth more. That share is banked before any examination paper is opened, which is why a student who drifts through the IA has to find those marks back under timed conditions, against papers that are harder to recover marks in.

Dubai schools are not careless about this. The constraint is timetable. A DP teacher carrying two SL classes and an HL class has to teach a syllabus to a fixed deadline, and the IA is an individual project with as many directions as there are students in the room. Teachers are permitted one formally marked draft per student under IB rules on supervision, and that single round of feedback has to carry the whole project. A student who has not understood what criterion C is asking for by the time the draft comes back has used up the only structured intervention the course offers.

What a tutor adds is time on the criteria themselves. Most lost IA marks are not subject errors. They are a method section that omits the controlled variables, a conclusion that restates the result instead of comparing it to a published value, a reflection that is personal rather than mathematical, or an evaluation that lists limitations without saying what each one did to the data. Those are diagnosable in one reading of a draft and fixable in two or three sessions, and none of them require anyone to write a single sentence of the student's work.

That boundary matters more in the IB than in most systems. Every submitted IA is accompanied by an academic honesty declaration from both student and supervisor, and work found to be other than the student's own is a malpractice case that can cost the whole Diploma. There are operators in this market that sell finished Internal Assessments outright. IB Gram does not and will not. A tutor here explains what a criterion wants, reads what the student has produced, asks the questions a moderator would ask, and sends the student back to their own keyboard.

Delivery is online, one-to-one, over live video with a shared screen, which suits IA work better than it suits ordinary teaching. An IA session is two people looking at the same document, the same spreadsheet or the same graph. Nothing about that improves by having a second person physically in the room in Al Barsha or Dubai Hills, and a great deal improves by being able to book a Chemistry HL specialist for Tuesday at eight rather than whoever is free to drive across town.

This page sets out what each DP internal assessment actually is, what it is worth, what the criterion letters reward, where Dubai students most often lose marks, how a two-year IA calendar should be counted backwards, and what this kind of support costs in the Dubai market. If you only read one section, read the one on the honesty line.

  • Most DP subjects: IA worth 20-25% of the subject grade
  • One formally marked draft per student is the IB norm for supervision
  • Criterion letters, not overall impressions, decide the mark
  • Both student and supervisor sign an academic honesty declaration
  • A tutor may teach, question and review; never write or complete the work
  • Sessions run on Gulf Standard Time around the student's school deadlines
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Internal assessment is not only a Diploma problem. It runs through the IB continuum in different forms, and a Dubai family moving between IB schools will meet all three versions. Here is what internally assessed work means at each stage, and what it means for a child in a Dubai school specifically.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Six subjects plus the core. Each subject carries its own internally assessed component: a mathematical exploration, a scientific investigation, three Economics commentaries, a Psychology experimental study, a Business Management research project, an oral in each language. Marks are awarded by the school teacher against published criteria and then externally moderated, which can move a whole cohort's marks up or down.

Dubai DP cohorts are small by UK or Indian standards, often one or two teaching groups per subject, so a single teacher usually supervises every IA in that subject. That makes the marked draft a scarce resource and makes outside criterion coaching more useful here than in a school with four parallel classes and a department moderating internally.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Every MYP subject is assessed against four criteria, A to D, marked out of eight and reported on a 1-7 scale. In the final year the Personal Project is the flagship internally assessed piece, moderated externally. MYP students are therefore already fluent in criterion language before they reach the Diploma, which is an advantage that frequently goes unused.

Several Dubai schools run a full IB continuum from PYP through MYP to DP, so a child may meet criterion-referenced marking at eight years old. Others take students in at Year 12 from British IGCSE streams, and those students arrive having never been marked against a criterion in their lives. The gap between those two intakes is the single most common reason a DP1 student struggles with their first IA.

CPAges 16-19

Career-related Programme

DP courses combined with a career-related study and a core that includes a reflective project. The reflective project is internally assessed and externally moderated, and it asks for an ethical dilemma connected to the career-related study, with a research question and a reasoned argument.

The CP is still rare in Dubai compared with the Diploma, offered by a small number of schools rather than being a mainstream route. Families considering it should confirm the exact course combination with the school before planning any support, because the reflective project differs enough from an EE that experience with one does not transfer cleanly to the other.

PYPAges 3-12

Primary Years Programme

No external assessment at all. The PYP Exhibition in the final year is an extended collaborative inquiry presented to the school community, assessed internally against school-set expectations rather than IB criteria. It is a rehearsal for everything internally assessed that follows.

Dubai has a deep PYP layer because so many families arrive mid-primary. For a parent, the Exhibition is the first visible sign of how an IB school judges independent work, and it is worth attending for that reason alone rather than for the mark, since no mark is reported.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Each DP subject has its own internally assessed task with its own criteria, its own length limit and its own failure modes. The eight below are the ones Dubai families most often ask about, with the specific thing that costs marks in each.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

The mathematical exploration, 12 to 20 pages, marked on presentation, mathematical communication, personal engagement, reflection and use of mathematics. The commonest loss is use of mathematics: a student picks a topic whose maths sits below their course level, caps the top band and cannot recover it by writing more.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Same criteria, different mathematical register. AI explorations lean on modelling and statistics, which makes data provenance the risk. An exploration built on a dataset the student cannot source or justify loses reflection marks because there is nothing honest to reflect on.

Physics

HL and SL

The scientific investigation, around 3,000 words, marked on research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation. Physics drafts most often fail on uncertainty: raw uncertainties recorded but never propagated into the gradient, so the conclusion claims a precision the data cannot support.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Same assessment model as Physics. Chemistry investigations lose marks on control of variables that are chemically significant rather than obvious, and on conclusions that quote a literature value without comparing percentage error or explaining the direction of the discrepancy.

Biology

HL and SL

Scientific investigation with the same four criteria. Biology is where statistical treatment decides the grade: a student who runs five replicates and then applies a test that needs more, or who reports a mean without a measure of spread, is capped on data analysis regardless of how careful the practical work was.

Economics

HL and SL

Three commentaries of up to 800 words each, one per unit of the syllabus, each built on a news article published within a set recency window. The commonest fault is a commentary that explains theory and diagrams but never applies them to the article's own specifics.

Psychology

HL and SL

An experimental study replicating a published study, reported in around 2,200 words. Marks are lost on the link between the chosen study and the hypothesis, and on inferential statistics applied without stating assumptions or justifying the significance level.

Business Management

HL and SL

A research project at HL and a written commentary at SL, both built on primary or secondary evidence about a real organisation. Weak projects ask a research question the available evidence cannot answer, which is a planning failure visible on page one.

Geography

HL and SL

A fieldwork write-up of around 2,500 words based on data the student collected. Dubai students often have excellent urban fieldwork available to them and then write it up as a report rather than as an argument answering a fieldwork question.

History

HL and SL

A historical investigation of around 2,200 words in three sections, including an evaluation of sources. The source evaluation section is where marks concentrate and where students most often summarise sources instead of weighing their value and limitations.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Internal assessment support is not open-ended tutoring. It works best in defined blocks tied to a point in the project, because a student who gets criterion feedback before they have written anything has nothing to apply it to.

Topic and research-question block

Two or three sessions at the start, before any writing. The work is narrowing a topic until the criteria can actually be met: checking that the mathematics reaches the course level, that the variables can be controlled with available equipment, or that the chosen article carries enough specifics to analyse. Most salvageable IA disasters are caused here and visible nowhere else until the draft.

  • Tests the topic against the top band of the hardest criterion
  • Rules out topics that cap the mark before a word is written
  • Checks data is obtainable and honestly sourceable
  • Ends with the student's own written research question

Criterion review of the student's draft

The student submits a draft they wrote. The tutor reads it against each criterion letter and reports where it currently sits and what the next band asks for, in the criterion's own language. The student then revises. No sentences are supplied, no passages are rewritten, and the file the student submits to school is the file the student typed.

  • Band-by-band position on each criterion letter
  • Questions a moderator would ask, in writing
  • Length and formatting checked against the limit
  • Revision left entirely with the student

Data and analysis session

A working session on the quantitative part: uncertainty propagation, error bars, choice of statistical test, gradient and intercept interpretation, or a spreadsheet model that needs to be transparent rather than clever. This is the most technical hour in the whole process and the one where school timetables most often run out of room.

  • Uncertainty carried through to the final result
  • Graphs that show spread, not just means
  • Statistical tests matched to sample size and design
  • Spreadsheet formulas the student can explain

Final-stretch discipline block

A short block in the last fortnight before an internal deadline, focused on the things that are still recoverable late: the reflection, the evaluation, the bibliography, the appendices and the word count. Deep structural change is no longer possible at this stage, and a tutor who pretends otherwise wastes the family's money.

  • Reflection rewritten by the student to be specific
  • Evaluation tied to measurable effects on the data
  • Citations and appendices made complete
  • Honest view on what can and cannot still change

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai

01

What IB internal assessment help actually means

  • Student-chosen task, teacher-marked, externally moderated
  • Published criteria, school-set internal deadlines
  • Three moments where outside help pays: topic, first draft, final fortnight
  • Subject gaps get fixed as subject work, not as IA work

Internal assessment is any component of an IB course marked by the student's own teacher against IB criteria and then externally moderated. It is not coursework in the old British sense, where a task was set and everyone answered the same question. In most DP subjects the student chooses the topic, designs the task, carries it out and writes it up, and the criteria reward the quality of those choices as much as the quality of the final answer.

So IB internal assessment help in Dubai means something narrower than general tutoring. It is not teaching the syllabus, although syllabus gaps often surface during it. It is coaching a student through a project they own, against a published mark scheme, inside a deadline set by their school rather than by the IB. The deliverable is a student who understands what each criterion letter rewards and can see their own draft the way a moderator will see it.

There are three distinct moments where outside help earns its cost. The first is topic choice, because a topic that cannot reach the top band of the hardest criterion sets a ceiling nothing else can lift. The second is the student's own first full draft, because that is the only point where structural change is still cheap. The third is the last fortnight, where the useful work is narrow and specific: the reflection, the evaluation, the citations and the length.

Everything outside those three moments is usually better spent on the subject itself. A student who cannot yet explain standard deviation will not write a strong data analysis section no matter how much criterion coaching they receive, and the honest advice in that case is to fix the statistics first and come back to the IA afterwards.

02

Every DP internal assessment, its length limit and what it is worth

Parents are rarely told the numbers plainly, and the numbers are the reason the IA deserves attention. The table below sets out the internally assessed component for the DP subjects Dubai students take most, with its approximate length limit and the share of the subject grade it carries. Weightings differ between standard and higher level in several subjects because the external papers differ, and length limits are set by the subject guide rather than by the school.

Two patterns are worth noticing. First, the share is higher at standard level in most subjects, because SL students sit fewer or shorter papers, so the IA is a larger slice of a smaller pie. A parent who assumes the IA matters more to the HL student has it backwards. Second, the length limits are short. A 2,200-word historical investigation or an 800-word Economics commentary leaves no room for a leisurely introduction, and students who write to the limit rather than to the criteria routinely lose marks for material that should have been cut.

Always confirm the exact current figure against your child's subject guide or with the school's DP coordinator before planning around it. Subject guides are revised on a rolling cycle, the IB publishes the authoritative version, and a page like this one is a map rather than the territory. Where a figure here differs from the guide your child's teacher is working to, the guide wins.

One further use for the table: it tells a family where to spend money if they can only spend it once. A student taking Economics SL, Psychology SL and Biology HL has three internally assessed components carrying very different weight, and the Economics commentaries are the ones that move the most grade per hour of effort. Ranking the components by weighting before booking any support is a five-minute exercise that changes what the support should be.

The criterion letters, and what each one is really marking

No competitor page in this market names a single IA criterion, which is strange, because the criteria are the whole game. An IA is not marked as an essay and then adjusted. It is marked letter by letter, each letter against a band descriptor, and the total is the sum. A student who knows that will spend their last week on the weakest letter instead of polishing the strongest one.

The sciences share one set of criteria across Physics, Chemistry and Biology, which is useful for a family with two children in different sciences. Mathematics has its own set, and the mathematics criterion that decides most grades is the one about the level of mathematics used. The table shows both sets side by side with the thing each letter actually rewards and the thing that most often costs the band.

The practical use of this table is diagnostic. Read a draft once per letter, not once overall. A science draft that reads well often turns out to be strong on research design and weak on evaluation, and the weak letter is where the marks are. A maths exploration that looks impressive often turns out to be strong on presentation and personal engagement and capped on use of mathematics, which is the letter nothing else compensates for.

Students can do this reading themselves, and the better ones do. Print the band descriptors, print the draft, and mark the draft once per criterion with a different colour each time. The exercise takes an hour and usually produces a shorter and more accurate list of jobs than a teacher's comments do, because it forces the student to look for evidence of a band rather than for things that read awkwardly. A tutor's value then shifts from finding the problems to confirming the diagnosis and teaching whatever the weak letter turns out to need.

04

Where Dubai IB students lose IA marks most often

  • Topic chosen below the course's mathematical or conceptual level
  • Uncertainties recorded but never propagated to the result
  • Reflection written about the experience, not about the subject
  • Limitations listed without their effect on the data
  • Citations, appendices and word counts left until too late

Across IA drafts from Dubai schools the same handful of faults recur, and almost none of them are about intelligence or effort. They are about not having read the band descriptors. The most expensive single error is topic choice at the wrong level: a Maths AA HL student who explores a problem that resolves with standard-level trigonometry has capped use of mathematics before writing anything, and no amount of late work lifts that ceiling.

The second is uncertainty treatment in the sciences. Dubai school laboratories are generally well equipped, so students collect good raw data, record instrument uncertainties correctly in the table, and then compute a mean and a gradient as if those uncertainties had vanished. A conclusion that states a result to four significant figures from data that supports two is a conclusion the evaluation criterion has to punish.

The third is the reflection and evaluation pair, which students treat as a conclusion to the writing rather than as analysis. Reflection in a mathematical exploration means thinking about the mathematics: why this method rather than that one, what the result implies, what breaks if an assumption is relaxed. Evaluation in a science investigation means saying what each weakness did to the numbers and in which direction. Both are marked on specificity, and both are usually written in generalities.

A fourth, smaller, but entirely avoidable loss is administrative: missing citations for a dataset, an appendix that is referred to and not attached, a word count that includes material it should exclude, or a graph exported at a resolution nobody can read. These cost real marks and take an evening to fix.

05

The honesty line: what a tutor may and may not do with an IA

  • Permitted: explaining criteria, teaching method, questioning a draft
  • Permitted: reporting where each criterion currently sits
  • Not permitted: supplying text, rewriting prose, producing data
  • Not permitted: any finished or part-finished assessed document
  • AI use follows the school's own policy and must be disclosed

This is the section that should decide who you hire. The IB requires every student to submit work that is their own, and both student and supervisor sign a declaration to that effect. Work that is not the student's own is malpractice, and the consequence is not a lower mark but the potential loss of the Diploma. That penalty falls on the student, not on whoever was paid.

Within that rule, legitimate support is broad and genuinely useful. A tutor may explain what a criterion means, teach the statistics a student needs, discuss whether a research question is viable, ask the questions a moderator would ask, point out that a conclusion does not follow from the data, flag that an appendix is missing, and teach referencing conventions. A tutor may read a draft and report where it sits against each band. None of that is prohibited, and all of it is what the better IB departments in Dubai do with their own students when they have the hours.

What a tutor may never do is produce the work. That means no supplying sentences for the student to paste, no rewriting a paragraph into better English, no generating a dataset, no building the spreadsheet model and handing it over, no choosing the topic on the student's behalf, and emphatically no finished documents. Operators in this market sell completed Internal Assessments for a few thousand dirhams. Buying one puts a child's entire Diploma at risk, and we decline that work rather than pricing it.

Artificial-intelligence tools sit in the same frame. A student may use them where their school's policy permits and must disclose and cite that use the way they would cite any other source. What they may not do is submit generated text as their own writing. If you are unsure where your child's school draws that line, ask the DP coordinator in writing and keep the reply, because school policies on this differ across Dubai and the school's policy is the one that will be applied.

06

The two-year IA calendar, counted backwards

Nobody publishes this, so students discover it by missing it. Internal assessment deadlines are set by the school, not by the IB, and they sit much earlier than families expect, because the school needs time to mark, to moderate internally, and to upload samples before the IB's own submission window. By the time examination revision begins in earnest, every IA should already be finished and submitted.

The practical consequence is that the heaviest IA work in a Diploma falls in the second and third terms of the first year and the first term of the second year, which in Dubai means it collides with Ramadan in some years and with the long summer break in all of them. A student who plans to write their exploration over the summer between DP1 and DP2 is planning to write it without access to their teacher, which is a choice rather than a plan.

The table counts a typical IA backwards in relative terms rather than fixed dates, because every Dubai school sets its own internal calendar and the IB's own dates should be read from the official source rather than from a tutoring page. Ask your child's coordinator for the school's internal deadline list at the start of DP1 and put it on a wall. Families who do that rarely have an IA emergency; families who do not, do.

Two Dubai-specific wrinkles are worth planning around. Laboratory access over the long summer break is usually unavailable, so any science investigation needing repeat data collection has to finish its practical work before term ends. And in years when Ramadan falls across the spring term, the working rhythm of the household and the school day both change for a month, which is a month that cannot be assumed to be productive drafting time. Both are foreseeable, and both are regularly not foreseen.

What IA support costs in the Dubai market

Three of the six best-ranked pages for this kind of query publish no price at all, and two of the rest quote in US dollars, which is not the currency a Dubai family pays in. So here are the market bands in dirhams, attributed, with the caveat that these are what the market charges rather than a price list of ours.

Start from the monthly figure rather than the hourly one, because that is how an IA block is actually bought. Bestimate's Dubai tutoring cost tables put a weekly one-hour arrangement at roughly AED 240-600 a month at the budget end, AED 600-1,200 in the middle, and AED 1,000-2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. An IA block is usually four to eight sessions in total rather than an open-ended weekly booking, so the sensible way to budget for it is as a project cost of a few hundred to a couple of thousand dirhams, not as a recurring subscription.

On an hourly basis, published rates in this market run from around AED 45-65 at the budget online end, where EdFlik advertises, up to AED 150 for IGCSE and AED 200 for IB at Unitors, AED 270 at TutorChase, and AED 650 at the premium examiner-branded end where BartyED sits. Bestimate puts in-home visits at AED 180-350, with independent home tutors quoting up to AED 500 once travel is priced in. Specialist IB and IGCSE support clusters at AED 200-450 and above.

What moves the number for IA work specifically is subject scarcity rather than level. A Maths AA exploration or an Economics commentary can be supported by a wide pool of tutors. A Physics HL investigation involving uncertainty propagation, or a Psychology study needing a defensible inferential test, draws on a much smaller pool, and small pools price higher everywhere. Ask what the hour includes: whether written criterion feedback between sessions is part of it or billed separately is the single biggest hidden variable in this market.

Why IA support online beats a tutor in your living room

IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE; tutors travelling to a family's address is a service we run only in India. That is worth stating plainly rather than burying, because the phrase parents search is a home tutor and the honest answer is that for internal assessment the online format is not a compromise.

An IA session is a document session. The student has a draft, a spreadsheet and a graph, and the tutor needs to see all three, annotate them and hand them back. A shared screen does that better than two people leaning over one laptop, and it leaves a written record of the session the student can reread at eleven at night. Nothing in that workflow improves by adding a car journey across Sheikh Zayed Road.

The pool argument matters even more. The Dubai in-home market prices travel into every hour, which means the tutor you can book is the tutor who lives within a reasonable drive of your community at the hour your child is free. For a Chemistry HL investigation that is a severe constraint. Online, the constraint disappears, and the relevant question becomes whether the tutor has supervised this kind of investigation before, which is the question that should have been asked first.

Scheduling is the last practical point. Dubai school runs, after-school activities and the evening traffic pattern mean the realistic window for serious IA work is after seven in the evening on a weekday, or a long weekend morning. Online slots exist at those hours. In-home slots at those hours cost a premium precisely because someone has to drive to them.

Areas we cover across Dubai

IA support is booked from every part of Dubai, and the pattern of requests changes by community because the schools differ. These are the areas we hear from most, with what the local school mix means for internal assessment specifically.

Al Barsha and Umm Al Sheif

The densest IB cluster in Dubai, with full-continuum schools inside a few kilometres of each other. Requests here are heavily Maths AA and the sciences, and often come from MYP-trained students who understand criteria but underestimate DP length limits.

Emirates Hills and The Meadows

Long-established IB and British schools side by side. A recurring pattern is a student who moved from an IGCSE stream into DP1 and is writing their first criterion-marked piece of work with no prior experience of it.

Nad Al Sheba and Meydan

Continuum schools with large Indian and British expatriate intakes. Economics and Business Management commentaries dominate the requests, usually two weeks before an internal deadline.

Mirdif and Al Warqa

A strong IB continuum presence serving families who stay in the same school from primary. Students here tend to arrive at the DP comfortable with reflection criteria and weaker on formal data analysis.

Dubai Festival City and Al Jaddaf

Diploma provision serving the Deira and Creek side of the city. Evening session slots fill early here because the commute home compresses the usable study window after school.

Dubai Hills Estate and Al Quoz

A newer school belt with rapidly growing DP cohorts. First-year IB departments mean small subject groups, so a student taking Physics HL may be one of four, with correspondingly little peer benchmarking.

Jumeirah and Umm Suqeim

A mix of British and IB provision along the coast. We see a lot of dual-track families here, with one child writing an IGCSE coursework piece while an older sibling writes a DP exploration.

Arabian Ranches and Motor City

Villa communities feeding established Diploma schools. Session timing is the practical issue: a 4pm slot is rarely realistic, so IA work here is usually booked for after seven in the evening.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai

Al Barsha, Al Sufouh and Umm Al Sheif

Dubai's thickest concentration of IB World Schools, with several running the full continuum. Students from these schools arrive at IA support already fluent in criterion language, so sessions move quickly to the specifics of data treatment and length discipline.

  • GEMS World Academy Dubai
  • Dubai International Academy Al Barsha
  • Nord Anglia International School Dubai
  • Dwight School Dubai
  • GEMS Wellington International School
  • Bloom World Academy
  • Kings' School Al Barsha

Nad Al Sheba, Mirdif and Festival City

Continuum and Diploma schools serving the eastern and southern communities. Economics commentaries and Maths explorations are the two most requested components from this cluster, and internal draft deadlines here often cluster in the same fortnight.

  • GEMS Modern Academy
  • Repton School Dubai
  • Uptown International School
  • Deira International School
  • Swiss International Scientific School Dubai

Emirates Hills, Ranches and Dubai Hills

Established Diploma provision alongside British schools, which produces the IGCSE-to-DP transition cases that make up a large share of first-IA enquiries. Small HL groups are normal in this cluster.

  • Dubai International Academy Emirates Hills
  • JESS Arabian Ranches
  • North London Collegiate School Dubai
  • Hartland International School
  • Dubai British School Emirates Hills

Schools are named here only to describe the Dubai IB landscape these students come from; no affiliation, endorsement or relationship with any named school is claimed or implied.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the component and the deadline

Which subject, which level, which internally assessed component and the school's internal deadline. If the student already has a draft or a marked set of teacher comments, send those too. Those three facts decide whether this is a topic problem, a draft problem or a final-fortnight problem, and they determine who should take it.

  2. 02

We match a tutor who has supervised that component

Not a generalist in the subject. For a Physics investigation that means someone who has worked through uncertainty propagation and evaluation bands before; for an Economics commentary, someone who has marked against the key-concept requirement. Where no specialist is free at your preferred hour we say so and offer the next available slot rather than substituting.

  3. 03

A free trial session on the real work

The first session uses the student's actual draft or actual topic shortlist, not a sample task. By the end of it you should know where each criterion currently sits and what the realistic ceiling is given the time left. If that session does not tell you something you did not already know, there is no reason to book a second.

  4. 04

A short defined block, not an open subscription

Most IA work resolves in four to eight sessions clustered around the three moments that matter. We will say when a block is finished rather than extending it. If the underlying issue turns out to be a subject gap rather than an IA gap, we will say that too, because criterion coaching cannot substitute for not knowing the statistics.

  5. 05

Written criterion feedback the student acts on

After a draft review the student receives written notes organised by criterion letter, with the question a moderator would ask at each one. The revision is theirs to make. Nothing is rewritten for them, and the file submitted to school is the file they typed.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

We work criterion by criterion

Feedback is organised by the letters the mark scheme uses, so a student can see the weakest letter and spend their last week there. General impressions about an IA being well written are what schools already give and are not what moves a mark.

The honesty boundary is published, not implied

What a tutor may and may not do with an IA is written out on this page so you can hold us to it. Operators selling completed Internal Assessments exist in this market; we decline that work and explain why to any family that asks for it.

AED figures with a source and a date

Every rate on this page is attributed to the company that published it, read in October 2026, and labelled as the market rather than as our price. We would rather be checkable than cheap-looking.

Specialists, not the nearest available body

Because delivery is online, the tutor is chosen for having supervised that exact component, not for living near your community. That is the single clearest advantage the format has over the in-home market in Dubai.

Honest about what late help can do

Three weeks before a deadline the realistic gains are in reflection, evaluation, citations and length. A tutor who promises structural transformation at that point is selling hope. We say what is recoverable and what is not.

Scheduling built around Dubai evenings

Sessions run on Gulf Standard Time in the slots that actually exist after school runs, activities and traffic, including late weekday evenings and weekend mornings, with Ramadan timings shifted to suit the family.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

How much of my child's IB grade actually comes from internal assessment?+

In most Diploma subjects the internally assessed component is worth around 20% of the subject grade, and in several standard level courses it is worth 25% or 30% because SL students sit fewer external papers. Economics SL is at the higher end with three commentaries. Across six subjects that means roughly a fifth to a quarter of the whole academic grade is decided by work done at home over two years rather than in the examination hall. Confirm the exact figure for each of your child's subjects against the current subject guide, because weightings are revised on a rolling cycle.

Is it against IB rules for a tutor to help with an internal assessment?+

No, provided the help stays on the right side of a clear line. A tutor may explain what each criterion rewards, teach the method or statistics the student needs, discuss whether a research question is viable, question a draft, and report where it sits against each band. A tutor may not supply sentences, rewrite prose, generate data or hand over any finished part of the document. Both the student and the school supervisor sign a declaration that the work is the student's own, and work that is not is treated as malpractice with consequences for the student.

When should a DP1 student in Dubai start thinking about their first IA?+

Earlier than most families expect. School internal deadlines usually sit three to four months before anything needs to reach the IB, and the project itself needs data collection time before that. In practice a student should be testing candidate topics nine to twelve months ahead of their school's submission date, which for a first IA often means during the second term of DP1. Ask the DP coordinator for the school's internal deadline list at the start of the year and work backwards from it rather than forwards from today.

How many internal assessments does a full Diploma student have to produce?+

One in each of the six subjects, plus the core. That is six internally assessed components, although some of them are multi-part: Economics is three separate commentaries, and language courses include oral components assessed internally. Add the Extended Essay and the Theory of Knowledge exhibition and essay, and a Diploma student is managing nine or ten separate pieces of independent assessed work across two years. Mapping all of them on one calendar in DP1 is the most useful hour a family can spend on the Diploma.

What happens if my child misses the school's internal IA deadline?+

That is a school matter rather than an IB one, and schools in Dubai handle it differently. The common consequence is losing the right to the formally marked draft, because the teacher's marking window has closed, which means the student submits without the one round of structured feedback the course provides. In more serious cases a school may submit the work as it stands. The practical answer is to treat the internal deadline as immovable and the two weeks before it as already spoken for.

Does the mark my child's teacher gives for an IA always stand?+

Not necessarily. Internal assessment is marked by the teacher and then externally moderated, which means the IB samples a school's marked work and checks it against the criteria. If the sample suggests a school has marked generously or harshly, the whole cohort's marks for that component can be adjusted up or down. This is why criterion language matters so much: a mark that is defensible against the band descriptors survives moderation, and a mark based on a teacher's impression of a hard-working student may not.

Which IB subject has the heaviest internal assessment load?+

By weighting, Economics at standard level is usually the heaviest because three separate commentaries together carry about 30% of the grade. By workload rather than weighting, the experimental sciences are the hardest, because a 3,000-word scientific investigation requires laboratory access, repeated data collection and a genuine analysis of uncertainty, none of which can be compressed into a weekend. Mathematics sits in between: shorter in pages but demanding in the one criterion that rewards mathematics at the level of the course.

How long should an IB internal assessment be?+

It depends on the subject and the limits are tighter than students assume. A mathematical exploration is typically 12 to 20 pages, a scientific investigation around 3,000 words, a historical investigation around 2,200, a Geography fieldwork write-up around 2,500 and each Economics commentary up to 800. Those limits are set in the subject guide, and examiners stop reading at the limit in several components. Writing to the criteria and then cutting to the limit produces a better mark than writing to the limit and hoping the criteria are covered.

What is the academic honesty declaration my child has to sign?+

It is a statement submitted with assessed work confirming that the work is the student's own and that all sources and assistance have been acknowledged. The school supervisor signs a corresponding declaration confirming that, to the best of their knowledge, the work is the student's. It is not a formality. It is the document that makes a malpractice finding possible, and it is the reason any service offering to produce an IA is asking a child to make a false declaration about their own work.

Can my child use ChatGPT or similar tools while working on an IA?+

Only within the school's own policy, and only with disclosure. The governing principle is that submitted work must be the student's own and any assistance or source must be acknowledged, which means generated text presented as the student's writing is not acceptable. Schools in Dubai are setting different detailed rules on this, from outright prohibition in assessed drafting to permitted use with citation for brainstorming. Ask the DP coordinator in writing where your child's school draws the line, and keep the reply.

How many tutoring sessions does IA support usually take?+

Four to eight for a single component, clustered rather than spread. A typical pattern is two sessions on topic and research question before any writing, one or two on data and analysis, one criterion review of the student's own draft with written notes, and one short block in the final fortnight on reflection, evaluation and citations. Spreading the same hours weekly across a year tends to work worse, because criterion feedback only means something when there is a draft to apply it to.

What do families in Dubai pay per hour for IA support?+

Published market rates in Dubai, read in October 2026, run from about AED 45-65 at the budget online end up to AED 650 for premium examiner-branded providers. Unitors lists IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200; TutorChase quotes AED 270; Bestimate puts specialist IB and IGCSE support at AED 200-450 and above, and in-home visits at AED 180-350 before independent tutors quoting up to AED 500. Those are the market's figures, not ours. Ask whether written feedback between sessions is included, because that varies more than the headline rate.

Can one tutor support internal assessments in two different subjects?+

Sometimes, and it is worth asking rather than assuming. The three experimental sciences share one set of IA criteria, so a tutor who has supervised Chemistry investigations transfers reasonably to Biology on the criteria even if the subject content differs. Mathematics has a separate criterion set and Economics another again, so combining a maths exploration and an Economics commentary with one person is usually a compromise. For two components in the same assessment family, one tutor is efficient; across families, two specialists are better.

My child's IA draft came back covered in teacher comments. Is that a bad sign?+

Usually the opposite. A heavily annotated draft means the supervisor engaged with it properly and used the one formally marked round of feedback the course allows. The bad sign is a draft returned with a grade and three general remarks, because that leaves the student nothing actionable. Work through the comments criterion by criterion, group them by letter, and deal with the weakest letter first. Most sets of teacher comments contain two or three structural points worth real marks buried among a dozen presentational ones.

Do UAE universities care about internal assessment marks specifically?+

They see the subject grades, not the component breakdown, so the IA matters because it moves the grade rather than because anyone reads it. Where internal assessment does matter separately is in Ministry of Education equivalency for the UAE certificate, which assesses the qualification as a whole against published requirements. The British track requirements are published, including five accredited IGCSE subjects at no less than grade E or 3 with Arabic and Islamic Education excluded from that count; for the IB, check the current requirement directly on moe.gov.ae rather than relying on any tutoring site.

Start with the draft you already have

The most useful first step is not a decision about tutoring. It is to put every internally assessed component your child owes on one calendar, with the school's internal deadline next to each, and then read the band descriptors for whichever one is closest. If after that you want a second reader on a draft, the trial session is free and uses the student's own file rather than a sample task. You will come out of it knowing where each criterion sits and what is realistically recoverable in the time left. If the answer is that your child is in better shape than they thought, that is a useful hour too, and we will say so.
