IB DP Physics HL Tutor in Ras Al Khaimah

An IB DP physics HL tutor in Ras Al Khaimah usually has to be found outside Ras Al Khaimah. This emirate runs a small private-school set under its own Department of Knowledge, and a two-form Diploma cohort rarely carries a second Higher Level Physics specialist. IB Gram matches one subject teacher to your child and teaches live online, one-to-one, on Gulf Standard Time, so the limit on who teaches your child becomes subject depth rather than the drive from Al Hamra to Al Nakheel.

  • Themes A to E of the current Physics guide, taught at Higher Level depth
  • Paper 1A, Paper 1B and Paper 2 practised under real exam timing
  • Scientific investigation coached against the four published criteria

IB & IGCSE in Ras Al Khaimah

Why a Higher Level Physics specialist in this emirate is usually a remote one

Ras Al Khaimah has a compact private-school sector. The Diploma is taught on a handful of campuses clustered around Al Hamra, Al Nakheel and the Mina Al Arab side of the city, and the cohorts are small by Dubai standards. That has one consequence parents feel immediately in DP1: the school may have exactly one teacher who takes Physics at Higher Level, and that teacher also covers Standard Level, the Middle Years science classes and often the lab technician's job as well. Nothing about that is negligence. It is arithmetic. A year group of forty students cannot sustain two Physics specialists, and no head of school in the northern emirates would pretend otherwise.

So when a student hits the wall in Physics HL, and almost every student does hit it somewhere between circular motion and induced electromotive force, the help available inside the building is one person's spare period. If that person taught the topic the same way the first time, a second pass in the same style rarely fixes it. The student needs a different explanation, not a louder one.

The local alternative is a private tutor who drives. In the northern emirates that pool is thin and it is rarely subject-specific. A tutor advertising in Al Qusaidat may be an excellent Maths teacher who takes Physics as a second subject, which is adequate for Standard Level and not adequate for the Higher Level additions to fields and nuclear physics. Travel also eats the budget: you are paying for the Emirates Road run as much as for the teaching, and a 5pm start becomes a 5.40pm start when the Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road is heavy.

An online IB Physics tutor in Ras Al Khaimah removes the geography from the decision. The question stops being who lives within twenty minutes of your villa and becomes who has taught Higher Level Physics to the current guide, marked the scientific investigation against its four criteria, and can explain magnetic flux three different ways. IB Gram delivers all UAE tutoring as one-to-one live video. We do not offer home visits in the UAE at all; tutors attending a residence is an India-only service, and pretending otherwise on a Ras Al Khaimah page would be dishonest.

What you get instead is specificity. A session runs on a shared screen with the student's own problem set, their own graph, their own half-finished uncertainty calculation. The tutor annotates it live, the student does the next one while the tutor watches, and the recording stays available for the revision week in April. For a subject assessed through two papers and one investigation, that is a closer match to how marks are actually won than an hour of talking at a whiteboard in the living room.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Physics Higher Level is the end of a line that starts years earlier. Below is what each IB programme asks of a student in this emirate, and what the step into DP Physics demands of them.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP 1-5

Middle Years Programme

Middle Years science is integrated and criterion-assessed: knowing and understanding, inquiring and designing, processing and evaluating, reflecting on the impacts of science. Students write up investigations against criteria before they ever meet a Diploma lab. What MYP does not do is drill algebraic rearrangement or standard-form arithmetic, and that gap is the single most common reason a capable MYP 5 student struggles in the first term of Physics HL.

In Ras Al Khaimah the MYP-to-DP step is often made inside the same small school, with the same teacher. That continuity helps pastorally and hides the academic jump, because nobody arrives to re-baseline the cohort. Families here usually find the gap in October of DP1, when the first Physics test comes back lower than every MYP report suggested it would.

Diploma Programme

Physics sits in Group 4 and is examined through Paper 1, which splits into multiple-choice Paper 1A and data-based Paper 1B, Paper 2 of short and extended response questions, and the internally assessed scientific investigation. Higher Level carries 240 teaching hours against 150 at Standard Level, and the extra hours are not revision. They are additional content inside each theme, which is why an SL student who moves up mid-year is behind on substance rather than practice.

Diploma students in this emirate sit the May session with everyone else, but they do it in a school where the Group 4 project, the Collaborative Sciences Project and the individual investigation are often supervised by the same teacher. A tutor who takes the pressure off the investigation timeline frees that teacher to do what only the school can do, which is sign off the work as genuinely the student's own.

CPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Career-related Programme

The Career-related Programme pairs two or more Diploma courses with a career-related study, a reflective project and personal and professional skills. A CP student can take Physics as one of those Diploma courses, usually at Standard Level, and is assessed on it exactly as a Diploma candidate is. The reflective project replaces the Extended Essay and carries its own supervision and academic-honesty requirements.

The Career-related Programme is not widely offered in Ras Al Khaimah, so families considering it are usually weighing a move to a Dubai or Sharjah campus against staying put. If your child is on CP with Physics, the tutoring question is narrower: the course content is the same, but the timetable around it is not, and sessions have to work around the career-related study placement rather than a standard school day.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Physics HL is rarely the only pressure point. These are the Diploma courses Ras Al Khaimah families most often ask about alongside it, with what each one actually assesses.

Physics

HL and SL

Five themes: space, time and motion; the particulate nature of matter; wave behaviour; fields; nuclear and quantum physics. Higher Level adds content inside each one. Marks are lost most often in Paper 2 extended response, where a correct method is undermined by a missing unit, an unstated assumption or a graph gradient read without reference to the axis scale.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

The usual partner to Physics HL. Calculus fluency decides whether a student can follow the derivations in fields and simple harmonic motion or has to memorise results. Students who take Analysis and Approaches at Standard Level alongside Physics HL cope, but need the differentiation and integration topics taught earlier than their maths timetable delivers them.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Statistically richer and lighter on algebraic manipulation. It is a legitimate pairing with Physics HL, and it changes what tutoring has to cover: more time spent on rearranging formulae and manipulating indices, because the maths course will not drill those as a matter of course.

Chemistry

HL and SL

The other Group 4 choice taken with Physics by students aiming at engineering or medicine. Shares the same assessment architecture, including the 24-mark scientific investigation, which means a student doing both has two investigations due in the same window and usually needs help sequencing them rather than writing them.

Computer Science

HL and SL

Often chosen as the Group 4 subject by students who want a second science without a second laboratory. The overlap with Physics is real in the logic and the modelling, and thin everywhere else. Students who assume a strong Physics mark will carry Computer Science are usually surprised by the programming component.

Biology

HL and SL

Taken with Physics less often, but common in the combination aimed at biomedical engineering. Biology rewards precise terminology in a way Physics does not, and students who carry a Physics habit of short numerical answers into Biology extended response lose marks for underdevelopment rather than error.

Sports, Exercise and Health Science

HL and SL

An alternative Group 4 course for students whose Physics HL load is already heavy. It carries its own internal assessment and its own data-handling demands, and families should treat it as a different subject rather than an easier science, because the command terms and the marking are not softer.

Design Technology

HL and SL

Where offered, this sits closest to Physics in its treatment of materials, forces and testing. The assessed design project is substantial and runs on a long timeline, so a student taking it with Physics HL has two major internally assessed pieces competing for the same term.

Extended Essay in Physics

Diploma core

A 4,000-word independent research essay supervised by a school teacher. Physics essays fail most often on scope: a question that cannot be answered with the apparatus available in a Ras Al Khaimah school laboratory, or a modelling question with no data to test it against. Tutoring here is question-shaping and method review, never authorship.

Theory of Knowledge

Diploma core

Assessed through an exhibition and a prescribed-title essay. Physics students often find the exhibition the easier half and the essay the harder, because the subject habit of stating a single correct answer works against an assessment that rewards weighing competing claims.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways Diploma Physics support runs for families in this emirate. All three are delivered as live one-to-one video; what changes is the rhythm and what the hour is spent on.

Weekly Higher Level teaching

One or two fixed sessions a week through the school year, following the school's scheme of work about a fortnight ahead so the student meets each theme twice. This is the pattern that moves a grade over two terms rather than two weeks, and it is what most DP1 families start with after a free first lesson.

  • Session notes and the annotated problem set shared after each lesson
  • Pre-teaching of fields and induction before the school reaches them
  • Short retrieval quiz on the previous fortnight at the start of each hour
  • Written update to the parent once a month, not after every session

Investigation and Extended Essay supervision support

A short block of sessions timed to the school's internal deadlines, spent on the research question, the variables, the uncertainty treatment and the evaluation. The tutor reads the student's draft and asks questions about it. The student makes every change themselves, and the school supervisor remains the only person who signs the work off.

  • Research question narrowed to equipment that actually exists in the school lab
  • Uncertainty and error propagation taught, not calculated for the student
  • Feedback given as questions and criteria references, never as replacement text
  • Timeline mapped backwards from the school's own submission date

Exam-term paper practice

An intensive block from the February mocks through to the May session, built entirely around timed papers. Paper 1A multiple choice is drilled for speed, Paper 1B for data discipline and Paper 2 for extended-response structure. Each session starts with the student's last timed attempt and the specific marks they did not collect.

  • IB Physics HL past paper practice marked against published markschemes
  • Command-term work: state, outline, explain, deduce, discuss
  • Calculator and data-booklet technique under time pressure
  • A ranked list of the themes worth revising and the ones to leave

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Ras Al Khaimah

01

What a Higher Level Physics timetable in a small Diploma cohort actually looks like

Start with the option blocks, because they explain most of what parents in this emirate find frustrating. A Diploma school builds a timetable by grouping subjects into blocks and running them simultaneously. With a cohort of forty, each block can only hold a few classes, so Physics HL may run against Economics HL or against the second Maths set. A student who wants both has to drop one, and the school is not being obstructive when it says so. It genuinely cannot staff a second Physics HL section for three students.

The second consequence is teacher load. In a small school the Physics HL teacher usually also teaches Physics SL, a Middle Years science class, and sometimes Maths. Add Group 4 project coordination and investigation supervision for every science student in the year, and the spare capacity for one-to-one reteaching is close to zero by February. Parents reading this will recognise the pattern: helpful replies to emails, a genuine offer of lunchtime help, and a diary that has no lunchtimes left in it.

The third is assessment calibration. A teacher marking eight Higher Level scripts has a small sample to calibrate against. In a Dubai school with four parallel HL sections and a department of six, a borderline Paper 2 answer gets a second opinion in the staffroom. Here it often does not, so a student can carry a stable internal grade through DP1 and then meet a different standard in the mock marked to published markschemes.

None of this argues against the school. It argues for a second, external, subject-specific voice, available on a fixed weekly slot that does not depend on anybody's free period. That is the specific job an IB DP physics HL tutor in Ras Al Khaimah is being hired to do, and it is why delivering it over video rather than by road is the practical choice in a small emirate.

02

The five themes, and what Higher Level adds to each one

The current Physics guide organises the course into five themes rather than the older numbered topic list. Themes A to E run across both levels, and Higher Level is not a separate syllabus. It is additional content inside each theme, taught alongside the Standard Level material. That structure matters for tutoring because it means a Higher Level student cannot simply be given extra past papers. They need the extra content explicitly taught, usually at the point the school is moving on.

The table below sets out what each theme covers and where students in this emirate most often stall. The pattern is consistent across cohorts: the mechanics theme feels manageable because it looks like IGCSE, and the fields theme does not, because it is the first place where the mathematics stops being arithmetic and starts being algebraic manipulation of relationships the student has not seen before.

A tutor working through this list does two things with it. First, diagnose: a short set of questions per theme establishes where the understanding actually stops, which is rarely where the student says it does. Second, sequence: the themes are not independent, and a student who cannot handle vectors in theme A will not handle fields in theme D, so the repair order is dictated by the physics rather than by the school's calendar.

Confirm the exact teaching order with your child's school. Schools sequence the themes differently depending on how they split the two years and whether they teach the sciences in parallel or in blocks.

03

How Physics HL is assessed, component by component

Physics at Higher Level is assessed through two external papers and one internally assessed investigation. Paper 1 is split: Paper 1A is multiple choice, Paper 1B is a set of data-based and experimental questions drawn from the practical programme. Paper 2 carries short-answer and extended-response questions and the largest single share of the grade. The scientific investigation is marked in school against published criteria and moderated by the IB.

Parents are often surprised by how much hangs on Paper 2. Nearly half the grade is decided by one paper that rewards structured written physics, which is exactly the skill a student who learned the subject through multiple-choice revision apps has not practised. Students who are strong at Paper 1A and weak at Paper 2 are the most common profile we see arriving from a small cohort, because internal tests in a small school lean towards short questions that are quicker to mark.

The tutoring implication is specific. Paper 1A is improved by volume and speed drills, and improves fast. Paper 2 is improved by writing answers out, in full, to a markscheme, and then rewriting them, which is slow and is the thing almost nobody does unsupervised. A plan that spends its hours in proportion to the weightings rather than in proportion to how pleasant each task is will shift the grade more than any additional content coverage.

Always verify the current weightings and durations for your child's cohort with the school's IB coordinator before planning around them, because the Group 4 courses were revised and different cohorts have sat different versions.

04

The scientific investigation, criterion by criterion

The investigation is worth a fifth of the final grade and it is the only part of Physics HL where the student controls the conditions. It is marked out of 24 across four criteria, each worth six marks: research design, data analysis, conclusion, and evaluation. Those four words are the whole brief, and most of the marks lost in this emirate are lost because the student optimised for interesting physics instead of for the criteria.

Research design is where the damage usually starts. A question that is too broad produces data that cannot be analysed, and a question that depends on equipment the school does not own produces no data at all. In a small school laboratory the realistic apparatus list is short, so the research question has to be built around what exists: a light gate, a known set of masses, a sonometer, a thermistor. Narrowing the question to that apparatus is not a compromise, it is the first six marks.

Evaluation is where the strongest students still underperform. A list of limitations scores poorly. What the criterion rewards is weighing which limitation actually mattered to the conclusion, with reference to the data collected, and proposing an improvement that would change the result rather than merely tidy the method. That is a reasoning skill, and it is teachable in two or three sessions once the data exists.

A tutor's role here has a hard boundary. The research question, the method, the data, the analysis and every word of the report are the student's. A tutor teaches uncertainty propagation, asks what the gradient means, and points at the criterion the paragraph is failing to address. The school supervisor is the only person who certifies the work as the student's own, and that signature is the reason the boundary exists.

05

The Ras Al Khaimah Diploma year, counted backwards from a May session

Diploma candidates in this emirate sit the May session. Working forward from September produces a plan that runs out of time; working backwards from May produces one that holds. The sequence that matters is not the exam window itself but everything that locks in before it: the investigation deadline, the Extended Essay submission, the mock window, and the point at which predicted grades are issued to universities.

Two emirate-specific items belong on that calendar. The first is Ramadan, which shifts the school day and moves family evenings later; a tutoring slot that worked in January often has to move after Iftar for several weeks. The second is the summer break, which in the northern emirates is long and is when families travel. A student who intends to use July for the investigation write-up usually does not, and planning as if they will is how September arrives with nothing drafted.

We publish no IB exam or results dates on this page. The IB's own site is the only authority for them, and dates circulating second-hand have been wrong often enough to be worth nothing. Ask the school's IB coordinator for the written session calendar in September of DP2 and build the plan from that document. For Cambridge and Pearson courses the published key-dates documents are reliable and show the shape of the problem: Pearson's International GCSE November 2026 timetable runs from late October to 19 November 2026 with results reaching students the following January, and a UAE candidate taking Cambridge sits a June series whose final entry closes in the spring, months before papers that run from May into June, or the November series in the autumn.

The table below is the skeleton. Fill the date column from your own school's calendar, not from ours.

The Department of Knowledge, and what a northern-emirate regulator actually decides

Private education in Ras Al Khaimah is regulated by the emirate's Department of Knowledge, which u.ae describes as regulating private education in the emirate. That is a different authority from Dubai's KHDA and Abu Dhabi's ADEK, and a page that recycles Dubai regulatory copy for a Ras Al Khaimah family is giving them the wrong institution to deal with. The practical difference is worth understanding before you ring anybody.

The authorities in Ras Al Khaimah and Sharjah approve tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods, according to the federal u.ae guidance. Approval of curricula and fees sitting with the emirate regulator is a stronger power than inspection alone, and it is the reason a school here cannot simply add a Higher Level section or alter its assessment arrangements because parents have asked for it. Federally, private schools are not obliged to follow a specific curriculum beyond Arabic language, social studies and Islamic studies, but they must adhere to the Ministry's general regulations.

For tutoring, the regulator that matters is a different one again. Private tuition in the UAE runs on a work permit issued through MoHRE, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. The permit is granted free of charge for two years, and the eligible categories are wide: teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private sector employees, unemployed individuals, university students, and school students aged 15 to 18. Anyone offering private tutoring without that permit is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule has been published, so any page quoting you an amount is guessing.

One condition parents should know about: the permit's code of conduct bars a tutor from teaching students affiliated with their own school, and Abu Dhabi's professional-ethics rules for school staff say the same thing. In a small emirate where everybody teaches at one of a few campuses, that rules out the arrangement families most often ask for first, which is paying their child's own classroom teacher for extra hours. Verify the current wording with MoHRE before relying on it.

What Higher Level Physics support costs in dirhams, and what moves the figure

Nobody in this market publishes a straight rate card, which is why parents ring four providers and get four non-answers. The figures below are the market, read off providers' own published pages in October 2026, and they are not IB Gram's price list. We quote per family after a free first lesson, because the hour an exam-term Paper 2 student needs and the hour a DP1 student needs are not the same hour.

The spread is wide and it is explicable. A university student teaching from a textbook sits at the bottom. A qualified subject teacher who has taught the Higher Level additions and marked investigations against the criteria sits in the middle. A named specialist with a long Diploma record sits at the top, and above that are rates that are really a reputation charge. What moves the figure inside a tier is specificity: Higher Level rather than Standard, exam-term rather than September, and a named subject rather than general science.

Travel is the hidden line item in this emirate. A visiting tutor who drives from Dubai to Al Dhait is pricing an hour and a half of road time into your hour, whether or not the invoice says so, and the pool of Higher Level Physics specialists willing to make that drive on a Tuesday is small enough that you take whoever is free. Removing the drive is not a discount for its own sake. It widens the pool from the people who live nearby to the people who teach the subject.

Rates below are quoted as published by each provider on its own site in October 2026 and will move. Check the source before you budget from them.

Online teaching, or a tutor who drives up from the southern emirates

This is the comparison that decides the question for most families here, so it deserves a straight answer rather than a sales pitch. In-home tutoring is a real service with real advantages: a younger child who needs supervision benefits from an adult in the room, and some students concentrate better when the laptop is closed. For Higher Level Physics in a northern emirate, the advantage usually sits on the other side, and the reason is supply rather than pedagogy.

Ras Al Khaimah is roughly an hour and a quarter from northern Dubai in light traffic and considerably more at the wrong time of day. A Higher Level Physics teacher based in Dubai will not make that trip twice a week for a single student at a sustainable rate. So the local in-home pool is the tutors who already live here, and in a small emirate that pool contains very few Higher Level Physics specialists. The choice in practice is not between an online specialist and an in-home specialist. It is between an online specialist and a generalist who can drive.

To be explicit about what we sell: IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE, and no tutor will arrive at a Ras Al Khaimah address through us. Tutors attending the student's home is a service we run only in India. UAE tutoring is one-to-one live video, screen-shared, with the student's own work on the screen, and we would rather state that plainly than let a parent discover it after booking.

What video adds for this subject specifically: an annotated graph the student keeps, a recording of the derivation they can replay in April, a shared document of every uncertainty calculation they have attempted, and a tutor who does not have to leave at the hour mark because the next family is across town.

Academic honesty in Physics, stated once and clearly

The IB's academic-honesty rules make the student the author of every assessed piece. For Physics that means the investigation report, the Extended Essay and any assessed laboratory work are the student's own, and a tutor who supplies text, data or analysis has exposed the student to a malpractice finding that can cost the Diploma. This is not a theoretical risk in this market. One provider in the researched corpus sells completed Internal Assessments outright, at a published price, which tells you the demand exists.

Here is where our line sits. A tutor teaches the physics, teaches the criteria, teaches uncertainty propagation and graph reasoning, reads what the student has produced, and responds with questions and criterion references. A tutor does not supply sentences for the report, does not generate the student's data, does not correct a draft into a finished state, and does not supervise the work in the formal sense. The school's supervisor does that, and signs to say the work is the student's own.

Parents sometimes ask whether this is just caution. It is not. The investigation is a fifth of the grade and the Extended Essay feeds the core points, so both sit squarely inside the IB's malpractice regime. A student caught submitting work that is not theirs does not lose marks, they risk losing the Diploma, and the tutoring fee that bought the text is the cheapest part of that outcome.

We also do not host or distribute IB, Cambridge or Pearson syllabus documents, past papers, markschemes or grade-boundary tables. Those are the boards' copyright. Equivalency and the university routes a Physics HL student in this emirate is heading for

A Physics HL student in Ras Al Khaimah is usually aiming at engineering, computing, physical sciences or medicine, and the destination shapes which Group 4 and Group 5 combination has to hold. If the plan includes a UAE university, the Ministry of Education's certificate equivalency process enters the picture, and it is worth understanding before DP2 rather than after results.

The sourced detail here is for the British track, and it is useful because many Ras Al Khaimah students sit IGCSE before the Diploma. Under the equivalency requirements reported in July 2026, students must pass five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at a grade no lower than E or grade 3, plus one accredited subject at Advanced Level at grade E or better, or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are not counted among the five required subjects. One ranking competitor tells UAE parents they need six IGCSE subjects; the sourced figure is five.

For the IB there is no points threshold published that we have been able to read on the Ministry's own site, so this page does not state one. Any page that quotes you an IB points figure for equivalency without a moe.gov.ae citation is repeating something it did not verify. Ask the Ministry or the emirate's attestation channel directly, and treat the answer you get in writing as the only one worth planning around. Equivalency is a process the family and the school complete, not something a tutoring service performs on your behalf.

The American track is worth knowing if your child might transfer: English proficiency is evidenced by a score of 5 in IELTS academic, 61 in TOEFL iBT, or 450 in the reading and writing section of the SAT, and mathematics requires at least 450 in SAT Math. Tutoring is not a requirement for any of this, and nobody should tell you it is.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across Ras Al Khaimah

Where a family lives in Ras Al Khaimah changes the school run, the realistic session start time and the internet the lesson runs on. These are the areas our Diploma students here come from.

Al Hamra Village

Villa and apartment communities on the southern coast, within reach of the Al Hamra school campuses. School transport returns late enough that a 4.45pm start is realistic; earlier slots regularly get missed. Fibre coverage here is solid enough for screen-shared problem sets.

Al Nakheel

The older city core, closest to the city-side campuses and the commercial strip. Sessions here are often booked after Maghrib because the household day runs later. An IB Physics tutor Al Nakheel families work with usually settles on two evening slots a week rather than one longer weekend block.

Mina Al Arab

Waterfront communities on the Hayat Island side, popular with families who moved north from Dubai. Expect Mina Al Arab IB Physics tuition requests to cluster in DP2, when the gap between a Dubai-school starting point and a smaller RAK cohort becomes visible in mock results.

Al Marjan Island

Reclaimed islands with a largely apartment-based, often shorter-tenure resident population. Students here move schools more than the emirate average, which makes a tutor who tracks the syllabus rather than one school's scheme of work more useful than usual.

Al Dhait North and South

Established residential districts inland from the corniche, with a long drive to the coastal campuses. This is where travel cost hits a visiting tutor hardest, and where online delivery changes the hourly economics most sharply for the family paying.

Khuzam and Seih Al Uraibi

Close to the Khuzam campus and the main road south. Families here often have children in two different schools on two different calendars, so a single fixed weekly slot per child matters more than flexibility.

Al Qusaidat and Julphar

Northern city districts with a mix of long-settled residents and staff housing. Requests from here lean towards exam-term support rather than year-round tuition, which shapes how a Physics plan is built: triage the two weakest themes, then paper timing.

Digdaga and the inland belt

Agricultural and semi-rural areas inland, where the nearest Diploma campus is a genuine commute. Online delivery is not a convenience here, it is the only way a Higher Level Physics specialist is reachable at all on a school night.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Ras Al Khaimah

The Al Hamra and southern coast campuses

The cluster where most Diploma Physics in the emirate is taught. Cohorts are small, which is good for attention and limiting for option blocks: a Higher Level Physics class of eight is normal here, and it may be the only one in the building.

  • RAK Academy - International School Al Hamra
  • RAK Academy - British School Al Hamra
  • RAK Academy - British School Khuzam
  • RAK English Speaking School

The city-side campuses

Largely Indian and British curriculum schools serving Al Nakheel, Al Qusaidat and Julphar. Students here often sit IGCSE or CBSE before moving to a Diploma campus, and the Physics step from a board course to Higher Level is the transition our tutors see most.

  • The Indian School Ras Al Khaimah
  • Our Own English High School Ras Al Khaimah
  • Scholars Indian School Ras Al Khaimah
  • Little Flower English School Ras Al Khaimah

Campuses and universities RAK families also weigh

Families with a Physics HL student frequently look south for sixth form, or local for engineering degrees. These are the institutions that come up in those conversations, and they shape which subjects a student is told to keep at Higher Level.

  • American University of Ras Al Khaimah
  • RAK Medical and Health Sciences University
  • University of Stirling RAK
  • Victoria International School of Sharjah
  • Ajman Academy

Schools and universities are named here as the local context Ras Al Khaimah families are choosing between; IB Gram has no affiliation with, and claims no endorsement from, any of them.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the actual stuck point

Not 'Physics is hard' but 'she cannot do induced emf questions and lost eleven marks on the fields section of the mock'. One topic, one piece of evidence. That is enough for us to pick between a tutor who is strong on mathematical derivation and one who is strong on written extended response.

  2. 02

Free first lesson on that topic

One session, no charge, spent on the problem you named rather than on getting to know each other. You get a short written note afterwards saying what the tutor found, including the awkward version where the real gap is two themes earlier than the one you asked about.

  3. 03

A plan with the weightings in it

A written plan covering the themes to repair, in the order the physics requires, with hours allocated in proportion to Paper 2 carrying 44% of the grade. It names what will not be covered as well as what will, because a plan that promises everything before May is not a plan.

  4. 04

Fixed weekly slots on Gulf Standard Time

Sessions booked at a time that survives the school run from your area, held in the same slot each week so the student stops negotiating about it. Ramadan timing is agreed in advance rather than improvised, and a standing after-Iftar alternative is set up before it is needed.

  5. 05

    Monthly review against the papers

A timed paper or paper section every few weeks, marked to the published markscheme, with the marks not collected listed by type rather than by topic. The plan changes when the evidence says so, and if the match is not working we change the tutor rather than defend the choice.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Higher Level, specifically

The Higher Level additions inside themes A to E are where most of the lost marks live, and they are the part a generalist science tutor skates over. We match on level as tightly as on subject, so the tutor has taught the additional content rather than read about it.

Geography stops filtering the tutor list

In a small northern emirate the in-home pool is whoever lives nearby. Teaching over live video means the shortlist is built from people who have taught Physics HL and marked investigations, wherever they are, on a slot that fits your evening.

Paper technique treated as a separate skill

Knowing the physics and collecting the marks are different competencies. Paper 1A rewards speed and reasoning, Paper 1B rewards data discipline, Paper 2 rewards written structure. We train them separately because they fail separately.

A stated line on assessed work

The investigation and the Extended Essay are the student's own, and we say so in writing before the first session. Coaching covers method, criteria and feedback as questions. It never covers producing text or data on the student's behalf.

Numbers with a source on them

Every AED figure on this page is attributed to the provider that published it and dated October 2026. We publish no rating, no success percentage and no student count, because none of those would survive being asked for the underlying data.

Honest about availability

Higher Level Physics specialists are not infinite, and exam term is when everyone wants them. If nobody suitable is free in your preferred slot we say so and give you a date, rather than filling the hour with whoever is available.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Ras Al Khaimah: your questions answered

Is there an IB DP Physics HL tutor based in Ras Al Khaimah, or will the lessons be online?+

Lessons are online, one-to-one over live video, and for Higher Level Physics that is usually the better answer rather than a compromise. The emirate has a small Diploma cohort, so the number of local tutors who have actually taught the Higher Level additions to themes A to E is very small. Teaching remotely means your shortlist is built from people who teach the subject at that level, not from people who live within driving distance of your villa. IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE; tutors attending a residence is an India-only service.

How many themes does the current Diploma Physics guide have, and which one causes Ras Al Khaimah students the most trouble?+

Five, labelled A to E: space, time and motion; the particulate nature of matter; wave behaviour; fields; and nuclear and quantum physics. Theme D, fields, is where most students stall, and the reason is mathematical rather than conceptual. It is the first point where the course asks for algebraic manipulation of relationships between quantities the student cannot picture, with sign conventions that punish carelessness. Students who cope with theme A by treating vectors as numbers meet the bill in theme D. A tutor working on fields usually has to go back to vectors first.

What is the difference between Paper 1A and Paper 1B in Diploma Physics?+

Paper 1A is multiple choice across the whole course, with no credit for working, sat without a calculator in some versions of the paper's instructions, so confirm the current rubric with your school. Paper 1B is data-based and experimental: graphs, uncertainties, method evaluation, drawn from the practical programme your child has done in the laboratory. They reward different habits. Paper 1A rewards speed and the discipline to reason rather than calculate; Paper 1B rewards precision with units, axes and uncertainty treatment. Students who revise only content tend to be adequate at 1A and weak at 1B.

How much of the Physics HL grade comes from the scientific investigation, and can a tutor help with it?+

Twenty per cent, marked out of 24 across four criteria worth six marks each: research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation. A tutor can help a great deal, within a firm boundary. Teaching uncertainty propagation, interrogating whether the research question suits the apparatus, explaining what the evaluation criterion actually rewards, and giving feedback as questions against the criteria are all legitimate and genuinely raise marks. Producing text, generating data or editing a draft into a finished state is not, and would expose your child to an IB malpractice finding. The school supervisor signs the work off as the student's own.

Does my child need Mathematics Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level to cope with Physics HL?+

No, and schools in this emirate pair Physics HL with several maths routes. Analysis and Approaches makes life easier because the calculus and algebraic fluency arrive on time for the derivations in fields and simple harmonic motion. A student taking Applications and Interpretation, or Analysis and Approaches at Standard Level, can absolutely do Physics HL, but the tutoring plan has to include the algebraic manipulation and indices work that their maths course will not drill. That is usually two or three sessions early in DP1, not an ongoing cost.

My son has lost confidence on fields and circular motion. Is that fixable before the May session?+

Usually yes, if there is a term rather than a fortnight. Those two areas fail for a diagnosable reason in most cases: vectors treated as scalars, sign conventions applied by habit, or confusion between potential and force. A diagnostic hour establishes which, and the repair sequence follows from it rather than from the school's teaching order. What does not work is more past papers on the same topic, because a student who cannot resolve a vector will keep making the same error faster. Expect a few weeks of groundwork before the paper practice starts paying.

How do Physics practicals work if the tutoring happens over video?+

The practical programme itself stays at school, because it needs the laboratory and the school's equipment, and that is where it belongs. What a tutor works on is everything around it: designing a method that suits the apparatus actually available, recording raw data to consistent precision, propagating uncertainties, plotting graphs that answer the question, and reasoning from results in the way Paper 1B demands. Screen sharing suits this well, because the student's own spreadsheet, graph and write-up are on the screen being worked through line by line.

What does Higher Level Physics tutoring cost per hour for a family in this emirate?+

Market rates published by UAE providers in October 2026 run from about AED 33 to 150 an hour for budget online help, AED 150 to 300 for a qualified subject tutor online, AED 180 to 500 for an in-home visit once travel is inside the fee, and AED 200 to 450 or more for an IB specialist, with named premium tutors advertised at AED 650. Those are other providers' published figures, not ours. We quote after a free first lesson, because exam-term paper work and DP1 content teaching are not the same job.

Which schools in Ras Al Khaimah teach Diploma Physics at Higher Level?+

The Diploma is concentrated in the Al Hamra and southern coast cluster, with RAK Academy's campuses the main provider, alongside British and Indian curriculum schools in the city that lead into Diploma study elsewhere. Whether Higher Level Physics actually runs in a given year depends on the option blocks and on how many students choose it, which is why a cohort of eight is normal here. Ask the school directly which Group 4 subjects are confirmed at Higher Level for your child's year before choosing options, because availability changes annually.

Can a tutor support a Physics Extended Essay without crossing the academic-honesty line?+

Yes, and the boundary is clear in practice. A tutor can help the student test whether a research question is answerable with the apparatus and data available, explain what the assessment criteria reward, teach the physics the essay depends on, and respond to the student's own draft with questions. The formal supervision, the three reflection sessions and the sign-off belong to the school supervisor. The essay must be the student's own work throughout, and no part of it should arrive from a tutor's keyboard.

Does a private tutor working with a Ras Al Khaimah family need a MoHRE permit?+

Yes. Private tuition in the UAE runs on a private tutor work permit introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, granted free of charge for two years through MoHRE's smart app, website and e-services system. Eligible categories include registered school teachers, government and private sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Anyone tutoring without the permit is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no fine schedule has been published, so treat any specific amount you see quoted as unverified.

Will five IGCSEs and a Diploma in Physics satisfy Ministry of Education equivalency for a UAE university?+

The sourced British-track rule is five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no lower than grade E or 3, with Arabic and Islamic education excluded from that count, plus one subject at Advanced Level at grade E or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level. For the IB there is no points threshold we have been able to read on the Ministry's own site, so this page publishes none. Ask the Ministry or the emirate's attestation channel and keep the written answer. Equivalency is a process your family and school complete, never something a tutoring service performs.

Can sessions move to after Iftar during Ramadan, and what happens over the long summer?+

Yes to both, and it is better to agree the Ramadan pattern in advance than to improvise it in week one. The school day shortens, family evenings move later, and the slot that worked in January usually needs to shift to after Iftar for several weeks. Over the summer most families here travel, so we plan for a pause rather than pretend a July schedule will hold. Where a student is using the break for investigation work, two anchor sessions a month keep it moving without owning the holiday.

How late into DP2 is it still worth starting Physics HL support?+

Later than most parents assume, provided the goal changes with the calendar. With two terms left, content repair across themes is realistic. With six weeks left it is not, and the honest plan is triage: the two highest-yield themes, Paper 1A speed, and Paper 2 answer structure against markschemes. That can move marks, because a great deal of Paper 2 loss is technique rather than ignorance. What nobody should promise you is a specific grade, at any point in the calendar.

What happens if no Higher Level Physics specialist is free in the slot we want?+

We tell you, with a date. Exam term concentrates demand for exactly the same tutors, and a Higher Level Physics specialist available at 5pm Gulf Standard Time on a Tuesday is a narrower resource than our subject list suggests. The options we offer are a different slot with the right tutor, a short wait with a date attached, or a different tutor whose profile we describe honestly so you can judge. Filling the hour with whoever happens to be free is how a family ends up paying for a generalist.

Start with one topic, one lesson, and no commitment

If your child is in a Higher Level Physics class of eight, in a school with one Physics specialist, the gap that opens is not a reflection on them or on the school. It is what a small cohort in a small emirate produces. Tell us the topic and the evidence, take the free first lesson on exactly that topic, and read the note the tutor sends afterwards. If it describes your child accurately, the rest of the plan is straightforward. If it does not, you have lost an hour and learned something useful about who you were about to hire.
