IGCSE Tutor near me in The Views

The search for an IGCSE tutor near me in The Views is almost never really about distance. It is about whether anyone within reach knows the exact specification your child sits, because Cambridge 0580 and Pearson Edexcel 4MA1 are different courses with different papers, different tiers and different grade ceilings. We match on the code printed on the statement of entry, then teach to that paper over live video at an hour the Emirates Living school run leaves free.

IB & IGCSE in The Views

The real question behind "does anyone near me know this syllabus?"

Families in The Views are usually one or two years into a British-curriculum school before they discover that "IGCSE" is not one qualification. It is a family of specifications issued by competing awarding bodies. Cambridge International runs its own suite, identified by four-digit codes such as 0580 for Mathematics, 0625 for Physics and 0620 for Chemistry. Pearson Edexcel runs International GCSEs with codes like 4MA1, 4PH1 and 4CH1. OxfordAQA runs a third suite. Two children in neighbouring apartments in Panorama or Turia can both be sitting IGCSE Maths next summer and be preparing for papers that differ in tier structure, calculator rules and grade range.

That is why the honest answer to "is there an IGCSE tutor near me" is a question back: which code does your child sit? A tutor who taught Cambridge Extended Mathematics for a decade is a strong match for a 0580 candidate and a weaker one for a Higher tier 4MA1 candidate until they have worked through that specification's own past papers. The mismatch rarely shows up in the first session, because the content overlaps heavily. It shows up in the mock, when the student meets a paper structured differently from the one they practised.

The supply problem follows from that. The Views is a compact community of apartment clusters overlooking the Emirates Golf Club fairways. Its secondary students travel out to schools in Emirates Hills, Al Sufouh, Al Barsha and The Meadows, and between those schools you will find Cambridge centres, Pearson centres and some that enter candidates with both depending on the department. Finding a specification-matched specialist for Chemistry, Economics and Second Language English inside a twenty-minute radius, free at 7pm, is not a realistic expectation of any neighbourhood.

IB Gram answers it by removing distance from the equation. Every lesson for a UAE family runs live, one-to-one, over video, on Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service we run only in India. Saying that in the fourth paragraph rather than the fortieth is deliberate, because the alternative is a parent assuming someone is coming. What replaces the drive is a tutor chosen for the code on the statement of entry, with the past paper, the mark scheme and the student's own script on a shared screen.

The rest of this page is written to make you dangerous in a parents' evening. It shows how to read the specification code off your child's own documents, what Core and Extended and Foundation and Higher actually cap, where marks go on each paper type, how far ahead the entry deadline sits, what the Ministry of Education's equivalency rule really requires, and what the Dubai market charges for an IGCSE hour in dirhams, with each figure attributed to whoever published it.

At a glance

  • IGCSE is several competing specifications, not one qualification
  • The code on the statement of entry is the only reliable identifier
  • Tier choice sets a grade ceiling before any revision begins
  • Entry deadlines close months ahead of the exam window
  • Lessons are delivered live online; no tutor is sent to a UAE address

Two routes dominate this catchment and a third sits underneath them. Which one your child is on determines what a tutor should be doing in Year 10 and Year 11, and the three are assessed in genuinely different ways.

Cambridge IGCSE

Cambridge issues each subject its own four-digit syllabus number and publishes the full specification, assessment structure and past papers openly. Most subjects are tiered: a Core route with a capped grade range and an Extended route reaching the top grades. Sciences add a practical component, either a laboratory test or a written alternative, which changes how a tutor should prepare a student.

Cambridge runs a June and a November series, with Checkpoint tests in March, May and October. Every centre is allocated to one of six administrative zones, and Cambridge states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone and that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong one. Ask your Dubai school which zone it sits in.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE

Pearson codes its International GCSEs differently, with Mathematics A as 4MA1 and the sciences as 4PH1, 4CH1 and 4BI1. Tiering is Foundation and Higher rather than Core and Extended, the grade scale is numerical, and the assessment design differs paper by paper. Some Pearson subjects also allow a different entry pattern from the Cambridge equivalent, which affects how a two-year course is sequenced.

Pearson offers International GCSE exams in May or June and in November each year. The November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026. June 2026 results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Pearson publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series, so plan from the live PDF.

KS3Ages 11-14 · Years 7-9

Key Stage 3 and the run-up to Year 10

The years before IGCSE are where the gap that shows up in Year 11 is usually created. Algebraic fluency, scientific explanation and extended writing are all built here, and none of them is examined, so weakness is easy to miss. A diagnostic in Year 9 is cheaper and more useful than a rescue in Year 11, and it also informs the tier decision the school will make.

Dubai private schools must teach Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies alongside the licensed international curriculum, and KHDA requires separate classes for Arab and non-Arab students because the curriculum expectations and the language of instruction differ. For a Views family that means the timetable carries more subjects than the IGCSE subject count suggests, which matters when planning a week.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Below are the subjects The Views families ask for most, with the code in each of the two main suites and the part of the course where marks go missing. Sessions are built from your child's own marked scripts against the published mark scheme.

Mathematics

Cambridge 0580 Core and Extended · Pearson 4MA1 Foundation and Higher

The current 0580 assessment design separates a non-calculator paper from a calculator paper, which catches out students who have practised everything with a handheld. Pearson 4MA1 sits two papers of equal weight. Most lost marks are arithmetic fluency, incomplete working on method marks, and algebraic manipulation that was never secured in Year 9.

Physics

Cambridge 0625 · Pearson 4PH1

Cambridge 0625 candidates sit either a practical test or a written alternative to practical, and the alternative is a technique in its own right: reading apparatus diagrams, spotting control variables, and explaining a method without having performed it. Electricity and the equations of motion are where most students in this catchment lose marks.

Chemistry

Cambridge 0620 · Pearson 4CH1

Mole calculations, electrolysis and the qualitative analysis tables are the recurring failures. The practical or alternative-to-practical component asks for precise observation language, not general description. Students who can recite the reactivity series still drop marks explaining why a particular displacement happens.

Biology

Cambridge 0610 · Pearson 4BI1

A terminology subject that punishes approximation. Marks are lost on command terms, on describing where an explanation was asked for, and on data questions where a trend is stated without reference to the figures. Work usually starts by annotating the student's own script against the published mark scheme wording.

English First Language

Cambridge 0500 · Pearson 4EA1

Directed writing and the analysis of an unseen passage reward structure over style. Strong talkers underperform because they narrate instead of analysing, and because they do not budget the time the paper actually gives them. Sessions drill a repeatable reading method and a timed writing plan.

English as a Second Language

Cambridge 0510 and 0511

A large entry across Dubai schools and a different skill set from First Language English. Listening and speaking components carry real weight, and the written tasks are assessed against format conventions as much as language. The commonest avoidable loss is ignoring the register and audience the task specifies.

Economics

Cambridge 0455 · Pearson 4EC1

Diagram accuracy is the mark. Unlabelled axes, shifts drawn in the wrong direction and evaluation paragraphs that repeat the analysis account for most dropped marks. The data-response question rewards students who quote the figures given rather than recalling general theory.

Business Studies

Cambridge 0450 · Pearson 4BS1

Easy to learn and hard to apply under timed conditions. Students lose marks by describing a business tool rather than applying it to the case study in front of them, and by skipping the justification that higher-tariff questions require. Case-study drill with a stopwatch moves grades faster than more content.

Additional and Further Mathematics

Cambridge 0606 and 0607 · Pearson 4PM1

Taken by students heading for A Level Mathematics or an IB Higher Level course, and often taught in a thin slot alongside the main maths option. Calculus and trigonometric identities are where the course gets steep. A tutor here is usually filling the time the school timetable could not give the subject.

Arabic and the mandatory UAE subjects

First language and additional language streams

KHDA requires Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies in Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed curriculum, with separate classes for Arab and non-Arab students and specified languages of instruction. Schools must also ensure teachers of these subjects hold the appropriate KHDA approval, which is worth knowing when comparing in-school and private provision.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways of buying IGCSE help work in this community, and the right one depends on which year the student is in rather than on how worried the household is. All run live over video.

Year 10 specification build

Weekly sessions tracking the school's scheme of work through the first examined year, with the specification open. The aim is that no topic is met for the first time in Year 11, and that the tier decision in the spring is made on evidence rather than on a feeling.

  • One fixed slot a week, 60 minutes
  • Specification and past paper visible on the shared screen
  • Tier evidence gathered rather than guessed
  • Pauses during school holidays if you want it to

Year 11 paper technique block

Concentrated work on the specific papers the student will sit, built from their own marked mocks. Timing, command terms, method marks and the non-calculator paper get separate treatment, because they fail for separate reasons.

  • Built from marked mock scripts, not a generic revision list
  • Separate sessions for calculator and non-calculator technique
  • Alternative-to-practical drilled as its own skill in the sciences
  • Ends when the paper is sat

Single-subject rescue

One subject, a short run of sessions, usually after a mock grade came back two or three grades below target. The first session is diagnostic: find whether the problem is content, technique, timing or tier, because the fix differs completely.

  • Starts with the marked script, not a syllabus run
  • Three to eight sessions in a defined window
  • Written diagnosis after the first session
  • Honest answer if the tier itself is the problem

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in The Views

01

How to read your child's specification code in five minutes

Before buying a single hour, establish what your child is actually sitting. There are four reliable places to look. The statement of entry the school issues before each series lists the awarding body, the syllabus or specification code and the component numbers. A school report or subject handbook usually prints the code next to the subject name. The department head will confirm it in one email. And the student's own past-paper practice carries the code in the header, which is often the fastest route of all.

Once you have the code, the awarding body's own site gives you the rest free of charge. Cambridge publishes the full syllabus for each four-digit number, including the assessment structure, the component weightings and which papers a Core or Extended candidate sits. Pearson does the same for its International GCSE specifications. Nothing on this page should be taken in preference to those documents for your child's own exam year, because specifications are revised and a structure that applied two years ago may not apply now.

The table below lines up the two main suites side by side for the subjects this catchment takes most. Its purpose is not to say which body is better. It is to show you that the difference is real, so that a tutor who shrugs when you say 4MA1 can be ruled out in the first minute of a conversation. If a provider cannot name the code they have taught, the specialism being sold is generic.

One practical warning about Cambridge timetables. Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, adding that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong zone's timetable. Dubai schools know their zone. Parents planning revision from a timetable found through a search engine sometimes do not, and that is an avoidable way to lose a paper.

Tiering: the grade ceiling that is set before revision starts

Tiering is the single most consequential decision in an IGCSE year and the one parents in The Views are least often shown the arithmetic for. In tiered Cambridge subjects, a Core entry sits different papers from an Extended entry and cannot reach the top grades. In Pearson Mathematics A, a Foundation entry has a numerical ceiling and a Higher entry has a floor below which no grade is awarded except a narrow allowance. The entry is made months before the exam, and once it is made the ceiling is fixed regardless of how well the student then works.

Schools make the tier decision on evidence, usually a Year 10 mock and classwork. The decision is not arbitrary and it is not an insult. A student entered Extended who cannot complete the harder paper will score poorly on it and may finish below where a confident Core performance would have landed them. The error runs both ways, though, and the one that causes lasting damage is the capped entry made because a student had a bad term in Year 10 rather than because the ceiling is genuinely right for them.

This is where a specification-matched tutor earns the fee rather than by teaching extra content. The useful work is to find out, by the autumn of Year 10, which tier the evidence supports, and then either secure the higher tier in time for the entry deadline or make the capped entry deliberately rather than by default. That requires someone who can mark a script against the right mark scheme and say what the ceiling realistically is. It cannot be done in March of Year 11.

Ask the school two questions in writing. Which tier is my child currently projected for, and what evidence is that based on. And when is the entry deadline, after which the decision cannot change. Those two answers reframe the whole tutoring question, because they convert a vague worry about grades into a dated decision with a measurable target.

Where IGCSE marks are actually lost, paper by paper

  • Maths: non-calculator fluency, unshown working, Year 9 algebra resurfacing
  • Sciences: the practical or alternative-to-practical paper treated as an afterthought
  • Essay and data subjects: command terms answered with the wrong structure
  • All subjects: minutes misallocated across the paper rather than content gaps

Marks are not lost evenly across a specification. They cluster in a handful of predictable places, and a tutor who knows the paper can name them before meeting the student. In mathematics, the losses are arithmetic fluency on the non-calculator paper, method marks forfeited because working was not shown, and algebra that was never secure in Year 9 reappearing inside a trigonometry or a functions question. None of those is fixed by covering more topics.

In the sciences, the single largest avoidable loss is the practical component. A Cambridge 0625 or 0620 candidate sitting the written alternative to practical is being assessed on experimental reasoning without a bench: reading an apparatus diagram, identifying the control variable, explaining why a step was done in that order, and judging the reliability of someone else's data. Students who are good at the theory frequently treat this paper as an afterthought and lose a block of marks on skills nobody taught them explicitly.

In the essay and data subjects the loss is command terms. Describe, explain, compare, evaluate and justify ask for structurally different answers, and the mark scheme awards accordingly. A student who writes an excellent description where an explanation was required has produced good prose and few marks. This is diagnosable in twenty minutes from a marked script, which is why we ask for one before quoting anything.

The fourth cluster is timing. Most IGCSE papers are generous in content and tight in minutes, and a student who answers the first third beautifully and the last third in a rush has a technique problem rather than a knowledge problem. Timed practice with a real clock, marked against the real scheme, exposes it immediately. Doing it under a tutor's eye is worth more than doing it alone, because the student cannot see where their own minutes went.

04

The entry deadline sits months before the exam

Parents routinely discover the entry calendar after it has closed. Awarding bodies need entries, forecast grades and component choices long before candidates sit anything, and the school's own internal deadline runs earlier still. In the UAE a Cambridge candidate has two sittings, June and November, and the June entry closes in the spring, months ahead of the papers, with the exact date printed on the statement of entry the centre issues. Forecast grades are then due on Cambridge's own published deadline for that series, results reach the centre on Cambridge Direct once marking closes, and certificates follow later again. Read that sequence in order and the point is unmissable: the decision that fixes the tier is taken while the candidate is still months from the exam hall, and no amount of revision reopens it.

Pearson's pattern is similar in shape. Pearson offers International GCSE exams in May or June and in November each year, and the November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026. June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Pearson also publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series, which is why the live PDF on the awarding body's site, rather than a date restated on a tutoring page, is the only safe thing to plan against.

What this means operationally is that the useful tutoring conversation happens in the term before the entry, not in the term before the exam. Tier decisions, whether to add or drop a subject, whether to sit a subject in November rather than June, and whether a private-candidate entry is needed, are all live questions at the entry deadline and dead questions afterwards. A family that knows the date can act; a family that does not simply inherits whatever the default was.

Three dates belong on the fridge. The school's internal entry deadline, which comes first. The awarding body's final entry deadline. And the results date for the series, because an enquiry about results or a remark has its own short window after it. Ask the examinations officer for all three in writing at the start of Year 11.

Five subjects at grade E: what MoE equivalency actually requires

This is the gap in the market that costs families real money in misplaced effort, because one page ranking for these searches publishes the wrong number. Gulf Today's report on the UAE's clarified equivalency requirements states that British-track students must pass five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates with a grade of no less than E or grade 3, and must also submit proof of one accredited subject at Advanced Level with a grade of no less than E, or two accredited subjects at Advanced Subsidiary Level with the same grade.

The detail that catches families out is the exclusion. The same report states that Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five required subjects. A student carrying seven IGCSEs of which two are Arabic and Islamic Education has five counting subjects only if the other five all clear the threshold. That is a planning fact worth knowing in Year 9, when subject options are chosen, rather than in the summer after results when the certificate is being submitted for attestation.

For the American track the same report gives a different test: English proficiency requires a score of 5 in the IELTS academic test, 61 in the TOEFL iBT test, or 450 in the reading and writing section of the SAT, and mathematics requires at least 450 in the SAT Math test before applying. No IB points threshold is stated in that article, and none should be taken from any tutoring page, including this one. Anything about IB equivalency has to be read on moe.gov.ae or confirmed with the attestation authority directly.

Two boundaries matter here. Equivalency and attestation are processes the Ministry of Education and the relevant authority run, not something a tutoring platform performs or can promise. And tutoring is not a requirement for equivalency, university admission or school progression; any page implying otherwise is manufacturing urgency about a regulatory process. What a tutor can legitimately do is help a student clear a grade threshold in a counting subject, which is a teaching job with a measurable target.

Why a code-matched specialist beats a nearby generalist

  • A generalist offers proximity; a specialist offers knowledge of the paper
  • Knowing the paper changes the mock, the tier decision and the ceiling
  • Online keeps the student's own script, calculator and notes inside the lesson
  • Bench time stays with the school; experimental reasoning can be taught remotely

Put the two options side by side honestly. A generalist within a twenty-minute drive of The Views offers continuity, the ability to read the room, and a parent who can see the lesson happening. Those are real advantages and it would be dishonest to pretend otherwise. What the generalist typically cannot offer is familiarity with the specific paper: the way 0580 splits calculator and non-calculator work, the way an alternative-to-practical question is marked, the exact phrase a mark scheme wants for an explanation mark in 0610.

The specialist's advantage compounds over a two-year course. Knowing the paper changes what gets practised, which changes the mock, which changes the tier decision, which changes the grade ceiling. It also changes how quickly a problem is identified: a tutor who has marked a hundred scripts against the same scheme sees in one page what a generalist might take three sessions to find. Over a Year 10 and Year 11 that difference is worth considerably more than the drive time saved.

Online delivery is what makes the specialist option available at all to a community this size. It also brings its own practical gains inside the hour: the student's own marked script, the official specification page and the past paper open side by side, annotated live and saved for later. Nothing is photographed and emailed afterwards, and the student keeps their own calculator and their own notes, which are the ones they will take into the hall.

The honest conditions for online to work are the same three every time. A stable connection, a door that closes, and a laptop rather than a phone. In an apartment with siblings and a shared table, the third is the one that fails. Solve it before the first lesson. And for the sciences, be clear about what online cannot replace: the school's laboratory. A tutor can teach experimental reasoning and the alternative-to-practical paper thoroughly, but bench time belongs to the school.

What an IGCSE hour costs in Dubai, and what it should include

Three of the six most visible pages competing for IGCSE searches in this market publish no price at all, and the two that do quote US dollars. The figures below are AED market rates drawn from providers' own published pages and from Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 rate table, each attributed. They are not an IB Gram price list. Our position is a free trial lesson first and a quoted rate once the specification, the tier and the target are known, because an hour of Higher tier 4MA1 technique is a different product from an hour of Year 8 support.

What should the hour include at each band? At the budget end, content re-explained competently by someone who knows the material. That is fair value for a Year 8 or 9 student who missed a topic and poor value for a Year 11 candidate three months from a paper. At the qualified band, syllabus-aware teaching and marking. At the specialist band, assessment technique against the published criteria, with the tier conversation included. The premium band is bought mainly in the final weeks, and what it buys is judgement about what to leave out.

The money that gets wasted in this catchment usually goes the same three ways. Hours bought before anyone looked at a marked script, so the first sessions are spent on diagnosis. Group classes bought for a tiered subject, where the whole point of the hour is that the questions are the student's own. And a long weekly commitment started in Year 10 that has burned out by the spring of Year 11, exactly when the mock evidence and the tier decision needed attention.

Ask three questions before paying anyone. Which specification code have you taught, and for how many series. What will the first session produce in writing. And do you hold the MoHRE private tuition work permit, which u.ae records as introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and granted free of charge for two years. The permit costs nothing, so there is no honest expense-based reason not to hold one.

Private candidates, retakes and sitting in November

  • Private-candidate entries run through an accepting centre, not through a tutor
  • Both main bodies run two series a year, which makes a split or a re-sit possible
  • Read the component breakdown, not the overall grade, before deciding on a retake
  • IB Gram teaches only: no entries, no centre, no awarding-body status

Not every IGCSE candidate in Dubai sits through their own school. Students who have moved mid-course, who want a subject their school does not offer, who are retaking a single paper, or who are being educated outside a school roll, enter as private candidates through a centre that accepts them. That is a logistical process with its own deadlines, and it sits with the centre and the awarding body rather than with a tutor. What matters here is knowing that it exists and that it has dates.

The November series is the quiet tool most families never consider. Both main bodies run two series a year, so a subject that went wrong in the summer can often be re-sat a few months later rather than waiting a full year, and a crowded subject load can sometimes be split across two sittings. Whether that is sensible depends on the subject, the school's policy and the student's wider timetable, and the honest answer is sometimes no. But it is a conversation worth having before the entry deadline rather than after results day.

Retakes need a clear-eyed diagnosis to be worth the fee. A grade that missed by a narrow margin because of timing or one weak paper is a good retake candidate. A grade that reflects a genuine content gap across the whole specification needs a longer run of teaching, not a second attempt in ten weeks. The way to tell the difference is to read the component breakdown rather than the overall grade, and that breakdown is available to the school.

For any of these routes the first call is the school's examinations officer, then the awarding body's own guidance for private candidates. IB Gram arranges teaching and nothing else: we do not register candidates, run a centre, or administer entries, and we hold no awarding-body centre status. Being clear about that is more useful than implying a capability, because the family that needs an entry made needs to be talking to a centre today rather than next month.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around The Views

These are the communities whose schools The Views secondary students travel to, read from the point of view of which awarding body their departments tend to enter candidates with and how far the journey back eats into the evening.

Emirates Hills

Dubai British School Emirates Hills and Dubai International Academy sit north of the golf course. British-curriculum departments here take candidates through IGCSE at sixteen before splitting into A Level or the Diploma.

Al Sufouh

Dubai College and GEMS Wellington International School. The return journey crosses two major roads, which is why Year 11 students from these schools rarely manage a session before half past six on a school night.

The Meadows

Emirates International School Meadows runs the IB continuum rather than IGCSE, so families comparing the two routes at sixteen often have children at both this school and a British one.

The Greens

Regent International School next door covers the primary years. Its families are the ones asking in Year 6 and Year 7 which secondary route, and therefore which awarding body, they are choosing.

Al Barsha

Kings' School Al Barsha, GEMS Dubai American Academy and Nord Anglia International School Dubai. A mixed curriculum cluster, which is exactly where the confusion between IGCSE, GCSE and American high-school credit starts.

Barsha Heights

Where many Views parents work, minutes from home. A short parental commute makes it realistic for a parent to sit in on the first ten minutes of a trial lesson, which is worth doing once.

Dubai Internet City

The red line metro stop at the edge of the community. Year 11 students who travel independently are home earlier than the bus allows, which opens a 5.30pm slot that bus users cannot use.

Jumeirah Lake Towers

Across Sheikh Zayed Road with its own apartment families. Several JLT schools and centres advertise IGCSE support locally, which is where the comparison between a nearby generalist and a code-matched specialist usually begins.

Emirates Living and Emirates Hills

The schools closest to The Views. Between them they cover the British route through IGCSE and the full IB continuum, which is why a single apartment block holds children being assessed on three different scales.

  • Emirates International School - Meadows
  • Regent International School

Al Sufouh, Al Barsha and TECOM

The second ring of the catchment. Strong British-curriculum departments entering IGCSE candidates, alongside American and international schools, all ten to twenty-five minutes out depending on the hour of the day.

  • Dubai College
  • GEMS Wellington International School
  • Kings' School Al Barsha
  • Nord Anglia International School Dubai

  • American School of Dubai

Schools are named to describe the catchment a family in The Views chooses from; no affiliation, partnership or endorsement is implied, and IB Gram is independent of every school listed.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

    Send the specification code

The awarding body and the code from the statement of entry, report or past-paper header: 0580, 4MA1, 0625, 4CH1. One line of information removes most of the guesswork from the match, and it is the first thing a genuine specialist will ask you for rather than something they shrug at.

  2. 02

Send one marked script and the current tier

A marked mock or test tells us whether the gap is content, technique, timing or tier. Pair it with what the school currently projects, and the first session can start on the actual problem rather than spending an hour discovering it at your expense.

  3. 03

Free trial lesson with the proposed tutor

A live one-to-one lesson at the hour you can hold, with the tutor you would keep, on the real topic and the real paper. You watch the teaching and the shared screen; we find out whether the match is right. Nothing is paid before that lesson has happened.

  4. 04

Work backwards from the entry deadline

Fix the weekly slot, then write the three dates on the plan: the school's internal entry deadline, the awarding body's final entry date, and the results date. Decisions about tier, subject count and series are live before those dates and closed afterwards.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Matched on the code, not the postcode

Cambridge 0580 and Pearson 4MA1 are different papers with different tiers and different calculator rules. Matching on the specification rather than on driving distance from The Views is what makes a genuine subject specialist available at an hour your family can actually hold.

Tier decisions treated as a dated decision

A Core or Foundation entry caps the grade before revision starts, and the entry closes months ahead of the exam. We look at the evidence early enough for the decision to be made deliberately, and we tell you plainly when the ceiling is the right call.

Delivery stated before you book

Lessons are live one-to-one video on Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not run home visits anywhere in the UAE; that service exists only in India. Knowing this before the first booking is worth more than a search phrase that implies otherwise.

Dates and rules from the primary source

Entry deadlines come from Cambridge and Pearson, equivalency rules from the Ministry of Education and the attestation authority, permit rules from MoHRE and u.ae. We cite and link rather than restate, because a date retyped on a tutoring page is a date that can go stale.

No accreditation claims

IB Gram is an independent matching platform. It holds no KHDA training-institute permit, no awarding-body centre status and no regulator endorsement. Those bodies are named on this page to explain what they do, which is a different thing from borrowing their authority.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in The Views: your questions answered

How do I find out which IGCSE specification my child's school actually enters?+

Four places give you the answer within minutes. The statement of entry the school issues before each series names the awarding body, the syllabus code and the components. School reports and subject handbooks usually print the code beside the subject. The department head will confirm it by email. And your child's own past-paper practice carries the code in the header. Once you have it, the full specification is free on the awarding body's own site, which is the document to plan from for your child's exam year rather than anything restated elsewhere.

Is there an IGCSE tutor near me in The Views who knows the exact paper?+

Within a twenty-minute drive, not reliably across every subject. The Views is a compact cluster of apartment towers, and a specification-matched specialist for Chemistry, Economics and Second Language English who is also free at 7pm is not something a community of this size contains. IB Gram solves it by matching on the code and delivering lessons live one-to-one over video on Gulf Standard Time. We do not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service we run only in India.

What is the practical difference between Cambridge 0580 and Pearson 4MA1?+

They are separate specifications with separate papers. Cambridge 0580 uses Core and Extended tiering and its current design separates a non-calculator paper from a calculator paper. Pearson Mathematics A 4MA1 uses Foundation and Higher tiering with two equally weighted papers and a numerical grade scale. Content overlaps heavily, which is why a mismatch does not show up in early sessions, but paper structure, tier language and calculator rules differ. Check the current specification on the awarding body's site for your child's exam year before planning any revision.

Does a Core or Foundation entry cap the grade my child can be awarded?+

Yes, and that is the point of tiering. A Cambridge Core entry sits different papers from an Extended entry and cannot reach the top grades. A Pearson Foundation entry in Mathematics A has a numerical ceiling. The entry is made months before the paper and cannot be changed afterwards, so the decision deserves evidence rather than a default. Ask the school in writing which tier your child is projected for, what evidence supports it, and when the entry deadline falls, then work from those two answers.

Why does my child suddenly have a maths paper without a calculator?+

Because the current Cambridge 0580 assessment design separates non-calculator work from calculator work, so arithmetic and algebraic fluency are examined in their own right. Students who practised every topic with a handheld meet that paper cold and lose marks on operations they can do but have not done unaided for years. The fix is short, regular, unaided practice rather than more topics. Confirm the exact paper structure for your child's exam year on the Cambridge syllabus page, because specifications are revised between cohorts.

Can my child sit subjects with two different awarding bodies at once?+

In practice, yes, and it happens routinely in Dubai schools where departments choose independently. A student might sit Cambridge 0620 Chemistry and Pearson 4MA1 Mathematics in the same series. It is the school's entry decision rather than the family's, and it has a consequence worth knowing: the student is preparing for two different mark-scheme cultures at the same time. A tutor should be told both codes rather than being left to assume one body covers the whole timetable.

How far ahead of the exam do IGCSE entries close?+

Months, and the school's internal deadline comes earlier still. Pearson's published dates are the clearest illustration: the November 2026 International GCSE papers ran from late October to 19 November 2026, and the entry that fixed the subject list for them had closed in the preceding summer. Cambridge is the same in shape for the two series a UAE candidate can enter, with June entries closing in the spring and November entries over the preceding summer, on dates printed on the centre's statement of entry. Ask your examinations officer for the school's internal date, the awarding body's final date and the results date, in writing, at the start of Year 11.

How is the science practical assessed if the tutoring is online?+

The assessment itself happens through the school. Cambridge science candidates sit either a practical test or a written alternative to practical, and the alternative is examined on experimental reasoning rather than bench skill: reading apparatus diagrams, identifying control variables, explaining why a step was ordered that way, judging the reliability of supplied data. All of that can be taught thoroughly over a shared screen using past papers and mark schemes. What cannot be replaced remotely is laboratory time, and that belongs with the school.

How many IGCSE subjects does the UAE actually count for equivalency?+

Five. Gulf Today's report on the clarified requirements states that British-track students must pass five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates with a grade of no less than E or grade 3, alongside one Advanced Level subject at no less than E or two Advanced Subsidiary subjects at the same grade. One page ranking in this market publishes six, which is wrong. Verify the current rule on moe.gov.ae or with the attestation authority before relying on it, because this is a regulatory process rather than something a tutor administers.

Do Arabic and Islamic Education count towards the five subjects in The Views?+

No. The same report states plainly that Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five required subjects. That has a real planning consequence: a student holding seven IGCSEs, two of which are Arabic and Islamic Education, only meets the requirement if the remaining five all clear the threshold. It is a Year 9 options conversation rather than a results-day discovery. Dubai schools must still teach these subjects under KHDA rules regardless of the licensed curriculum, so they will be on the timetable either way.

Which IGCSE subjects do students in this catchment struggle with most?+

Mathematics at the tier boundary, the science practical and alternative-to-practical papers, and Second Language English where the task format carries as much weight as the language. In mathematics the problem is usually Year 9 algebra resurfacing inside later topics. In the sciences it is a paper nobody taught explicitly. In English it is ignoring the register and audience the task specifies. All three are visible from one marked script, which is why we ask for one before quoting anything.

Is Year 10 or Year 11 the better time to start?+

Year 10, by a wide margin, because that is when the tier decision is still open and the entry deadline has not passed. A Year 10 start means no topic is met for the first time under exam pressure and the tier is chosen on evidence. Year 11 is still worth doing, but the work changes: it becomes paper technique, timing and triage built from marked mocks rather than a build through the specification. A single-subject rescue after a bad mock is a legitimate and common reason to start late.

What should a tutor know about my child's school before the first lesson?+

Four things. The awarding body and specification code for each subject. The tier the school currently projects. The internal assessment and mock calendar, because a session three weeks before a mock should look different from one in October. And the Cambridge administrative zone if the school is a Cambridge centre, since Cambridge states that using the correct zone timetable is essential and that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong one.

What should an IGCSE hour in Dubai cost, and what should it include?+

Market rates published by providers and in Bestimate's 2026 Dubai rate table run roughly AED 45-150 for budget online tutoring, AED 150-300 for a qualified subject tutor online, AED 200-450 and above for an IGCSE or IB specialist, and AED 500-650 at the premium end, with in-home visits quoted at AED 180-500. Those are the market's numbers, not ours. At the specialist band the hour should include marking against the published scheme and an explicit view on tier. IB Gram quotes after a free trial, once the code and target are known.

Can my child retake one paper in the November series?+

Often, yes, because both main awarding bodies run two series a year, which makes a re-sit a few months later possible rather than a full year's wait. Whether it is sensible depends on why the grade fell short. A near miss caused by timing or one weak component is a reasonable retake; a gap running across the whole specification needs teaching rather than a second attempt in ten weeks. Read the component breakdown with the school, and talk to the examinations officer about entry routes early.

Send the code, then the script

The fastest way to get a useful answer for a student in The Views is to send two things: the awarding body and specification code your child sits, and one recent marked script. Those two items tell us more than a half-hour conversation, because together they show the paper and the problem. We will match a tutor to that specification, put a free trial lesson at an hour the Emirates Living school run leaves free, and tell you honestly if the specialist your child needs is not available at that hour. Lessons run live one-to-one over video on Gulf Standard Time. Entry deadlines, equivalency rules and permit requirements come from Cambridge, Pearson, the Ministry of Education and MoHRE, and we will point you at the source rather than restate it.
