IGCSE Science Tutor in The Views

Parents hunting for an IGCSE science tutor in The Views usually start with a price and end up with a question nobody answers: what did the money buy? This page puts the price question first, in AED, with the market bands written down and attributed to whoever published them. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, so a Biology 0610 specialist is reachable from The Views at the same rate as a generalist who happens to live two streets away.

  • Market rates published in AED and attributed to the page that quoted them
  • Cambridge 0610, 0620 and 0625 plus Pearson 4BI1, 4CH1 and 4PH1
  • One-to-one over live video, so no drive time is inside the hourly rate
  • One free trial lesson per family, with no card details taken first

IB & IGCSE in The Views

The price of IGCSE science support in The Views, written down

The Views sits inside Emirates Living, between The Greens and The Meadows, a short drive from Al Barsha and a slightly longer one from Al Sufouh. Families here are close to Regent International School, Emirates International School - Meadows, Dubai British School Emirates Hills and Dubai International Academy, and that proximity is exactly why the money question gets muddled. A tutor who lives nearby is easy to find and feels like the frugal choice. The hourly rate rarely tells you whether that tutor has taught the Extended tier of Cambridge Physics 0625 to a Year 11 class, or only the Core tier, or neither.

Market rates in Dubai for science tuition run from roughly AED 45 an hour at the budget online end to AED 650 for a named premium tutor. That is a fourteenfold spread for what is advertised as the same service. Three of the six competitor pages researched for this cluster publish no price at all, and the two that do quote US dollars, a currency no family in The Views pays school fees in. The first table on this page fixes that: the bands, the tier each belongs to, and the published source that quoted it in October 2026.

The second thing the price does not tell you is how many hours the job needs. IGCSE science is three subjects with three mark schemes, and at Extended tier each one carries a multiple-choice paper, a long theory paper and a practical component. A student who cannot finish the theory paper has a timing problem, which is four to six timed papers with marking in between. A student who loses marks on graph scales and anomalous points has a Paper 6 problem, which is a different three or four sessions. Buying twenty hours of general revision when you needed six hours of paper technique is the most common way families here overspend.

The third variable is format, and it is the only one that moves the arithmetic by a large margin. An in-home visit in Dubai is quoted at AED 180 to 500 an hour, and the drive sits inside that rate. From The Views the realistic school-run-hour journey to Al Barsha or Emirates Hills is twenty to forty minutes each way, which is paid for twice: once in the tutor's rate and once in the slot it blocks. Online one-to-one removes that line item and widens the pool from whoever will drive to Emirates Living at 4pm to every specialist free at that hour.

IB Gram delivers tuition for UAE families as one-to-one lessons over live video, scheduled on Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai; in-home teaching is a service we run only in India. That is stated plainly here because the honest version is also the better-value version for a science subject: the thing a Year 11 student in The Views needs is a Chemistry 0620 specialist marking their Paper 4 to the scheme, and geography should not be allowed to decide who that is.

At a glance

  • Qualified online subject tutors sit in an AED 150-300 band; specialists run AED 200-450 and above
  • In-home rates of AED 180-500 include the drive, and the drive is the premium
  • Three sciences at Extended tier are three mark schemes, not one subject
  • Paper 6 technique is usually three to five hours of work, not a term of revision
  • A diagnostic on marked past-paper scripts costs less than a month of the wrong sessions
  • KHDA confirmed no private-school fee increase for 2026-27, so tutoring is the variable line in the budget
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Four routes matter to a family in The Views choosing science support at fourteen to sixteen. Two are IGCSE boards with different paper furniture, one is the IB Middle Years Programme that some Emirates Living families sit instead, and one is what happens after the exams. The cost of each is different, and so is the tutoring it needs.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge IGCSE sciences

Cambridge runs the three sciences as separate qualifications - Biology 0610, Chemistry 0620, Physics 0625 - plus Combined Science 0653 and Co-ordinated Sciences 0654 for students taking a reduced load. Entry is tiered: Core or Extended. At Extended tier a candidate sits a multiple-choice paper, a structured theory paper and either a practical test or the alternative-to-practical paper. Each paper has its own failure modes, which is why a tutor who knows the syllabus code is worth more per hour than one who knows the topic.

Most British-curriculum schools near The Views enter candidates at Extended tier for at least two sciences, and tier decisions are usually confirmed with the final entry in the autumn before a June series. Ask your child's head of science which tier has been entered before buying any tutoring, because Core and Extended need different work and the Core-tier ceiling is lower than many parents in Emirates Living realise.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE sciences

Pearson's International GCSE sciences - Biology 4BI1, Chemistry 4CH1, Physics 4PH1 - cover similar ground with different paper architecture and no separate practical paper, practical skills being assessed inside the written papers. Pearson also publishes a modular route on some subjects, which changes when a student can bank a result. The specification is the document that settles weightings and content, and it is free to read on the Pearson qualifications site.

A handful of schools in the Al Barsha and Barsha Heights belt enter Pearson rather than Cambridge, and a few enter a mixture by subject. That matters to a The Views family because past-paper work is board-specific: Cambridge practice does not prepare a candidate for Pearson question stems. Confirm the board per subject, not per school, before the first paid session.

MYPAges 14-16 · MYP 4-5

IB Middle Years Programme, years 4 and 5

Some Emirates Living families sit the MYP rather than IGCSE at sixteen. Sciences there are assessed against four criteria rather than against papers, with no multiple-choice paper and no alternative-to-practical. The work is scientific inquiry, processing data and reflecting on the impact of science. Tutoring costs the same per hour and buys something different: criterion language and task-specific clarifications rather than past papers.

If your child is at an IB continuum school near The Views and will enter the Diploma rather than A Level, the science question at sixteen is whether the inquiry skills are strong enough for a Diploma internal assessment. That is a cheaper problem to fix in MYP 5 than in DP1, and it is the only argument for spending money on science support in a year with no external exam.

DP/A LevelAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

What the science grades are actually for

An Extended-tier grade in two or three sciences is the entry ticket to IB Diploma Higher Level sciences or to A Level, and in some cases to a medicine or engineering route that will ask for Chemistry. Spending on IGCSE science is therefore partly an investment decision about a sixth-form subject list. A grade that just clears a school's internal threshold is not the same as a grade that survives the step up to Higher Level content.

Schools around Emirates Living set their own entry grades for Higher Level sciences and A Level, typically published in the sixth-form guide. Read the threshold for the subject your child wants before deciding how many tutoring hours the spring term is worth. It converts a vague worry into a number, and a number can be budgeted against.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Science is priced as three subjects, not one, and the hours each needs are not equal. The list below is the set a family in The Views actually asks for, with the syllabus code attached, because the code is what makes past-paper work usable rather than decorative.

Cambridge IGCSE Physics 0625

Core and Extended

Electricity, magnetism and waves are where the Extended-tier marks go missing: circuit analysis with more than one unknown, and ray diagrams drawn without the construction lines the scheme wants. Paper 6 questions on apparatus and precision are the other reliable loss. Both are technique problems, which means they respond to a small number of targeted hours rather than a long general course.

Cambridge IGCSE Chemistry 0620

Core and Extended

Mole calculations, electrolysis and organic nomenclature account for most of the gap between a grade 6 and a grade 8 at Extended tier. Candidates lose marks for unbalanced equations, for omitting state symbols, and for describing a test without naming the observation. Marked past-paper work in Chemistry has a faster return per hour than almost anything else on this list.

Cambridge IGCSE Biology 0610

Core and Extended

Biology looks like the recall subject and is marked like a precision subject. Transport in plants, homeostasis and inheritance questions are answered in the student's own words and marked against specific terms. The command terms - describe, explain, suggest, compare - carry the difference, and a tutor who makes the student write to the term is worth more than one who re-teaches the content.

Cambridge IGCSE Combined Science 0653

Core and Extended

One grade across all three sciences, a reduced subject content and fewer papers. Students here are often carrying a weak strand that drags the single grade, and the useful tutoring is diagnostic: find which of the three strands is costing marks, fix it, and leave the other two alone. Buying three subjects' worth of support for one combined grade is a common overspend.

Cambridge IGCSE Co-ordinated Sciences 0654

Double award, Core and Extended

Two grades from three sciences, widely entered in British-curriculum schools around Emirates Living because it keeps an option open without filling three slots on the timetable. The tutoring question is the same as the subject's design question: which strand is the ceiling? Session planning should follow the strand, not the timetable.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Physics 4PH1

Single tier

Two written papers, with practical skills assessed inside them rather than in a separate component. Question stems and mark-scheme habits differ from Cambridge enough that mixed practice confuses candidates. A student entered for 4PH1 should practise 4PH1 papers, and a tutor should be able to say which paper a given question came from without looking.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Chemistry 4CH1

Single tier

Calculation-heavy, with quantitative chemistry threaded through both papers. The commonest loss is arithmetic presentation: a right method with no working, or an answer given to the wrong number of significant figures. These are cheap marks to recover and they are recovered by marking, not by explaining.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Biology 4BI1

Single tier

Extended-writing questions carry more weight than many candidates expect, and the practical-skills questions inside the written papers reward students who have actually handled the apparatus. Where a school's practical programme has been thin, written practice on method, variables and error is the substitute that earns marks.

Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580

Core and Extended

Included because science grades are frequently limited by maths. Rearranging formulae, standard form, ratio and graph work appear inside physics and chemistry questions, and a student who stalls there loses science marks that look like science ignorance. A short maths block is sometimes the cheapest science intervention available.

Cambridge IGCSE Environmental Management 0680

Single tier

Taken alongside the sciences in some schools in the belt between Al Barsha and Dubailand. Case-study recall and data-response technique matter more than content volume. Sessions here are best spent on structuring answers to the mark allocation, which is a transferable skill that also lifts Biology extended writing.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways to buy science support, priced differently and suited to different problems. The choice should follow the diagnosis, not the budget, because the cheapest hour spent on the wrong component is more expensive than the dearer hour spent on the right one.

Weekly one-to-one, one science

A fixed hour each week in a single subject, over live video, with written work set and marked between sessions. This is the default for a student who is at grade 5 or 6 in one science and needs it moved before the June series. Priced at the market band for a qualified subject tutor, it is the format where an hour of marking does more than an hour of talking.

  • One subject, one syllabus code, one mark scheme
  • Written work marked to the scheme between sessions
  • Progress measured on paper scores, not on how the lesson felt
  • Easy to pause when the school's own revision programme takes over

A short diagnostic block before committing

Two or three sessions whose purpose is to find out which component is leaking marks, using the student's own marked scripts and a timed past paper. It ends with a written plan and an hours estimate. Families in The Views who do this first usually buy fewer total hours, because the plan names the paper rather than the subject.

  • Starts from the school's own marked scripts and report comments
  • One timed paper under exam conditions, marked to the scheme
  • Output is a component-level plan with an hours estimate
  • Cheaper than a month of sessions aimed at the wrong thing

Exam-term paper clinic

Fortnightly or weekly sessions from the spring, built entirely on timed papers and the mark scheme, with no new content. Suited to a candidate whose knowledge is adequate and whose score is not. The work is pacing, command terms, working shown, and the three or four question types that cost this particular student marks every time.

  • Timed conditions every session, scripts marked and returned
  • Command-term drills against the actual scheme wording
  • Paper 6 or practical-skills questions treated as their own topic
  • Stops when the school's study leave starts, by design

Two sciences on alternating weeks

One slot, two subjects, alternating. Cheaper than two weekly hours and workable when both sciences have a narrow problem rather than a broad one. It fails when either subject needs continuity, so it is a budget format with a stated limit rather than a recommendation for every family.

  • Half the weekly cost of two separate subjects
  • Works for two narrow problems, not two broad ones
  • Needs the same tutor to hold both syllabus codes credibly
  • Review after a month on paper scores before extending

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in The Views

01

What an IGCSE science tutor in The Views actually costs

  • AED 45-150: budget online, usually content re-teaching at the student's pace
  • AED 150-300: qualified subject tutor online, syllabus-mapped with marked work
  • AED 180-500: in-home one-to-one, with the drive paid inside the rate
  • AED 200-450+: subject specialist, component-level diagnosis and scheme marking
  • AED 500-650+: named or premium tier, priced on scarcity rather than on method

Market rates for IGCSE science tuition reaching The Views run from about AED 45 an hour at the budget online end to AED 650 for a premium named tutor, as published by providers in October 2026. The band most families here transact in is AED 150 to 300 for a qualified subject tutor working online, and AED 200 to 450 and above for a subject specialist. In-home one-to-one is quoted at AED 180 to 500, with the drive inside the rate.

Those figures are the market, not an IB Gram price list. They are set out because three of the six competitor pages researched for this cluster publish no price at all, and one of them asks the price question in its own FAQ and then declines to answer it. A family comparing offers in Emirates Living deserves the bands in the currency they pay school fees in, with the provider that quoted each one named and the month of the quote stated.

The spread is not a quality ladder. A tutor at AED 450 may be a Physics specialist who has marked hundreds of Paper 4 scripts, or may simply be scarce in that subject at that hour. A tutor at AED 150 may be a current teacher doing two evenings a week. What separates them in practice is whether they can name the component your child is losing marks in before you book, and whether they will mark written work to the scheme rather than discuss it.

Read the table below as a map of the market rather than a recommendation. The useful column is the last one: what the hour usually contains. Two providers quoting the same number can be selling a content re-teach and a marked past paper respectively, and only one of those moves a grade in the eight weeks before a series.

02

Three sciences, three mark schemes: what you are buying per subject

The single biggest driver of total spend is how many sciences a candidate is entered for and at what tier. Three separate Extended-tier sciences is three syllabuses, three sets of past papers and three practical components. Co-ordinated Sciences 0654 is two grades from the same three strands, and Combined Science 0653 is one. A family budgeting for science support should start from the entry, because the entry decides how much work exists.

At Extended tier a Cambridge science candidate sits a multiple-choice paper worth 30% of the grade, a structured theory paper worth 50%, and a practical component worth 20% - either the practical test or the alternative-to-practical paper, depending on what the school enters. Those shares are set in the current syllabus and should be confirmed on cambridgeinternational.org before any plan is built on them, because a syllabus revision changes the arithmetic.

The practical component is where the costing goes wrong most often. Twenty per cent of the grade sits in apparatus, method, tables, graphs and sources of error, and it is the component least covered by general revision. Three to five focused hours on graph scales, anomalous points and the suggest-one-improvement question type is usually the highest-return block available, and it is almost never what a family asks for when they first call.

Pearson's International GCSE sciences distribute practical skills inside the written papers instead of a separate component, so the same student needs the same skills assessed differently. That is why board confirmation precedes everything. A term of Cambridge past papers bought for a 4PH1 candidate is money spent on the wrong question stems, and it is a mistake that is invisible until the mocks come back.

Where the money goes to waste

  • Buying hours before a component-level diagnosis exists
  • Paying an in-home premium for a twenty-to-forty-minute drive
  • Using a group class to solve an individual weakness
  • Starting in April and choosing from whoever is still free
  • Re-teaching content to a student whose problem is timing and marking
  • Not asking the school what is already included in the fees

Almost every overspend on science tuition in Emirates Living comes from one of five decisions, and all five are made before the first lesson. The first is buying hours before a diagnosis. A parent who says the child is weak at Physics is reporting a symptom; the mark scheme reports a cause, and the cause is usually a single component. Twelve hours of general Physics is a reasonable-sounding purchase that frequently leaves the Paper 6 problem untouched.

The second is paying for proximity. An in-home rate of AED 300 against an online rate of AED 220 for an equivalent tutor is a 36% premium for a drive, and from The Views that drive is twenty to forty minutes each way at school-run hour. The third is buying a group class to save money on a problem that is individual. Group pricing is genuinely lower per student, and it buys a shared pace, which is useful for broad revision and close to useless for one student's specific weakness.

The fourth is starting late. Rates do not formally rise before a series, but availability tightens, and a family looking for a Chemistry specialist in April is choosing from whoever is left rather than from whoever is best suited. The fifth is paying for content delivery when the student already knows the content. A candidate scoring well on recall and badly on structured questions needs marking and timing, which is a cheaper intervention than re-teaching and is the one most often skipped.

There is a sixth, less visible: not asking the school first. Several schools near The Views run their own after-school science clinics inside the fees already paid. KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there will be no increase in private-school fees in Dubai for the 2026-27 academic year, under the emirate's second economic incentives package. The fee line is fixed; the tutoring line is the variable one, and it should be the last thing bought, not the first.

04

Costing a block of sessions against the paper it has to fix

The useful unit of purchase is not the hour, it is the block that clears one named problem. A block has a target component, a number of sessions, a piece of written evidence at the end, and a price that can be compared against doing nothing. Framed that way, science tuition stops being an open-ended subscription and becomes a series of decisions a family in The Views can say no to.

The table below prices blocks at AED 200 an hour, which sits inside the published market band for a qualified subject tutor online. It is used as an arithmetic anchor, not as a quoted price. The point is the relationship between the problem and the hours: a graph-and-error problem is four hours, a cannot-finish-the-paper problem is six, and a whole-subject grade shift across a year is a different order of commitment entirely.

Reading the last row honestly matters. Two sciences at one hour a week across a full academic year, at the mid band, is a five-figure commitment in AED. That is a real number and most families should see it before they start, because the alternative - six to ten well-targeted hours in the spring - often does more for a candidate whose knowledge is sound and whose technique is not. The expensive plan is sometimes right. It should never be the default.

Every figure in this table is indicative market arithmetic. Actual hours vary with the student, the starting point and how much written work gets done between sessions, which is the single largest variable nobody prices. A student who completes the marked work between sessions needs roughly half the hours of one who does not, and that is worth more than any discount a provider will offer.

05

The practical component when the practical is not the problem

Twenty per cent of an Extended-tier Cambridge science grade sits in a practical component, and families reasonably assume that a component about apparatus cannot be supported over video. The assumption is wrong in a specific and useful way. The alternative-to-practical paper is a written paper. It asks a candidate to read a method, complete a results table, plot and interpret a graph, identify an anomalous point, name a source of error and suggest one improvement. None of that requires a bench.

What it requires is practice at the particular register the scheme rewards. A candidate who writes that the experiment was inaccurate earns nothing; one who writes that the thermometer was read to the nearest degree and the temperature change was small earns the mark. That distinction is taught on paper, by marking, and it is one of the few places in IGCSE science where a handful of hours reliably converts into whole marks.

Where the school enters the practical test rather than the alternative paper, the hands-on work belongs to the school and should stay there. What tutoring adds is the surrounding technique: recording to the right precision, laying out a table before starting, deciding in advance how many readings to take and at what intervals. Those decisions are made before any apparatus is touched, and they are what distinguishes a finished script from an unfinished one.

For Pearson candidates there is no separate practical paper, and the same skills appear inside the written papers as method and data questions. The work is identical in substance and different in where it turns up. In both cases the honest statement is that a screen is not a limitation here, because the component being assessed is written reasoning about experiments rather than the experiments themselves.

06

Tuition spend in context for a The Views household

Tutoring is one line in a bigger education budget, and it reads differently next to the others. Dubai's private-school sector served 387,441 students across 227 private schools in 2024-25, offering seventeen different curricula, with UK curriculum schools accounting for 37% of enrolment and the International Baccalaureate 7%. That is the market a family in The Views is buying inside, and it is the reason the tutoring market here is both deep and unevenly priced.

The fee side of the budget is fixed for the coming year. KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there will be no increase in school fees for private schools in Dubai for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package. Dubai's 2026-27 intake also adds seven new private schools - four UK curriculum and three International Baccalaureate - creating 16,846 new places, after six schools opened during 2025-26 and enrolment rose 6%.

Against a fixed fee line, tutoring is the variable the family controls. Monthly packages visible in the market run at AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home sessions. Bestimate's monthly estimates for weekly one-hour sessions are AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support.

The last row of the table is the one most families forget. A candidate entered privately rather than through a school pays an entry fee set by the exam centre, not by the board and not by a tutor. Ask the centre directly, early, because the deadline for a June series entry sits in the preceding autumn and a late entry is a separate cost again.

Online, in-home and group: the arithmetic from Emirates Living

This is the comparison that decides most of the budget, so it is worth doing with the actual geography. The Views sits inside Emirates Living with The Greens to one side and The Meadows and The Lakes to the other. At school-run hour the drive to Al Barsha or Al Sufouh is twenty to forty minutes each way; Emirates Hills is closer but larger, and the internal drive adds minutes a map does not show. A tutor driving to a 4pm slot is committing ninety minutes to deliver sixty.

That commitment is priced. In-home rates in Dubai are quoted at AED 180 to 500 an hour with travel inside the rate, against AED 150 to 300 for an equivalent qualified tutor working online. The premium is the drive, and it also narrows the choice: a family paying for proximity is choosing from the tutors willing to drive to Emirates Living at that hour, not from the tutors who know Chemistry 0620 best.

IB Gram delivers tuition for families in The Views as one-to-one lessons over live video, scheduled on Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai, and in-person tutoring in Dubai is not something IB Gram sells; in-home teaching is a service we run only in India. The reason to be blunt about that is that the online format is the stronger answer for a science subject anyway, and a page that hedges on delivery is hiding the part the parent most needs to know.

The gain is specificity. A Year 11 candidate losing marks on Paper 6 graph work needs someone who has marked that paper, and the chance that such a person is both free at 4pm and willing to drive to The Views is much lower than the chance that they are simply free at 4pm. Screen-shared past papers, a document camera for working, and marked scripts returned between sessions cover everything the component actually assesses.

What a science tutor may and may not do, and how to check the permit

Two things are worth knowing before money changes hands, and neither appears on most competitor pages. The first is the legal position of the person teaching. Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit: the MoHRE private tutor work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, it is granted free of charge for two years, and eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students.

Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit from MoHRE are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws. No fine schedule is published, so no amount should be quoted to you by anybody. MoHRE's own service page is titled Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time, and is applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system. That is the page to check, and a tutor who cannot discuss it is telling you something.

A second constraint applies in Abu Dhabi and is worth knowing even from Dubai: ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit's code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with the teacher's own school. This is press-reported and should be verified against the current policy document, but the direction is clear and it rules out the arrangement some families ask for first.

The second thing is the academic boundary. A tutor teaches, explains, sets practice and gives feedback on work the student has produced. A tutor does not produce assessed work, and no reputable provider offers to. For IGCSE science that means practical write-ups, coursework where a school sets it, and any investigation submitted for assessment remain the student's own work from first word to last. One operator in this market sells completed Internal Assessments; that is a malpractice trigger for the student and it is the clearest signal available that a provider should be avoided.

Starting without overspending, and what happens if nobody is free

The sequence that wastes the least money is short. Ask the school what support is already included. Get the board and syllabus code for each science, and the tier entered. Collect the last two marked scripts. Then buy a diagnostic rather than a term, and let the diagnosis name the component and the hours. A free trial lesson - one per family, with no card details taken - is the right place to test whether a tutor can read those scripts and say something specific about them.

What a diagnostic should produce is a written plan naming the component, the number of sessions, what the student will do between them and how progress will be measured. If the output is a vague promise about confidence, that is a sign the sessions will also be vague. Paper scores are the measurement that matters, and they are available because official past papers exist and the schemes are published by the boards on their own sites.

Availability is the part most providers conceal, so here it is plainly. Specialist cover is not uniform across subjects and hours. Chemistry and Physics at Extended tier in the 4pm to 6pm Gulf Standard Time window are the tightest slots in the week, because every family in Dubai wants them. If no specialist is free for the hours a family in The Views needs, the honest answers are a different time slot, a short wait, or a tutor whose specialism is adjacent rather than exact - and the family should be told which of the three applies before paying anything.

Finally, review on a timetable rather than on a feeling. Four sessions in, look at the paper scores and the marked work. If the target component has moved, extend. If it has not, change the component, change the tutor, or stop. A plan that cannot be stopped at a review point is not a plan, it is a subscription, and subscriptions are how a reasonable AED 200 an hour becomes a number nobody examined.

Where we tutor

Rates, travel and timing across Emirates Living and the Marina side

The same tutor costs a different amount depending on how far they drive, which is the one geographic fact that matters to a price comparison. These are the communities a The Views family is compared against when a home tutor quotes, and what each one does to the arithmetic.

The Greens

Apartment blocks immediately north of The Views, feeding the same schools. Rates quoted to The Greens and The Views are usually identical; the difference is parking, which costs the tutor time and shows up as a shorter lesson.

The Meadows

Villas with Emirates International School - Meadows inside the community. In-home quotes here are at the lower end of the band because the drive is short, which is the clearest illustration of what families are really paying for.

The Lakes

Low-density villas with a longer internal drive than the map suggests. A tutor booked for 4pm from outside the community frequently arrives at 4.15, and the fifteen minutes is rarely credited back.

Emirates Hills

Large plots and the highest in-home quotes in this cluster, with Dubai British School Emirates Hills and Dubai International Academy nearby. The premium is distance and plot size, not teaching quality.

Barsha Heights

Dense towers with several tuition centres at street level, which is where group science classes are usually sold. Group pricing looks attractive per hour and buys shared pace rather than a fixed weakness.

Al Sufouh

Dubai College and American School of Dubai sit here, a twenty-minute drive at school-run hour. Tutors quoting both Al Sufouh and Emirates Living often hold a single slot for both and price in the risk of missing it.

Dubai Internet City

Where many parents in The Views work. A lesson that runs over live video can start at 4pm without anyone leaving an office, which removes a logistics cost that never appears on a tutor's invoice.

Jumeirah Lake Towers

A ten-minute drive on a clear road and twenty-five at the wrong hour, with its own cluster of centres. Useful as a price benchmark: the same tutor usually quotes JLT and The Views within the same band.

Dubai Marina

The nearest high-density market, and the one most competitor pages write about. Rates quoted there are the closest published proxy for what The Views is asked to pay, which makes it the honest comparison point.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in The Views

The Views, The Greens and Emirates Living

The schools most students on this page attend, all within a short drive. Science departments here differ on board and tier policy, so the first question before spending anything is which syllabus code the candidate is entered for.

  • Regent International School
  • Emirates International School - Meadows
  • Dubai British School Emirates Hills
  • Dubai International Academy Emirates Hills

Al Barsha and Al Sufouh

A twenty to thirty minute drive north at school-run hour. Several of these schools run selective sixth forms, so their published Higher Level and A Level science entry grades are the numbers worth budgeting against.

  • Dubai College
  • GEMS Wellington International School
  • Kings' School Al Barsha
  • American School of Dubai
  • Nord Anglia International School Dubai

Barsha Heights, Internet City and the Marina side

Where the group-class market for IGCSE science actually sits, in centres at tower level. Prices there are quoted per student per session rather than per hour, which makes direct comparison with one-to-one rates harder than it looks.

  • Emirates International School - Jumeirah
  • GEMS Dubai American Academy
  • Dubai British School Jumeirah Park
  • GEMS Wellington Academy Al Khail

Schools are named here as ecosystem context for families in The Views; no affiliation, endorsement or partnership with any of them is claimed or implied.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

    Confirm board, code and tier

Before anything is priced, find out which board each science is entered with, which syllabus code, and whether the entry is Core or Extended. The school's head of science can confirm all three in one message. This single step prevents the most expensive mistake in the market, which is buying past-paper practice for the wrong board.

  2. 02

Send the last two marked scripts

A mock paper with the examiner's or teacher's marks on it tells a specialist more than an hour of conversation. It shows which component is leaking, whether the losses are knowledge or technique, and whether the candidate is finishing. Scripts and the school report comments are the whole of the useful input.

  3. 03

    Take the free trial lesson

One free trial lesson per family, with no card details taken beforehand. Use it as an interview rather than a lesson: ask the tutor to name the component that is costing marks and to say what the first four sessions would target. A specific answer is the thing being tested.

  4. 04

Buy a diagnostic block, not a term

Two or three sessions whose output is a written plan with a component, a session count and a measurement. This costs less than a month of weekly sessions and it is the step that decides whether the eventual spend is four hours or forty. Families who skip it almost always buy more hours than they needed.

  5. 05

Work between sessions and mark it

The variable that halves or doubles the total hours is whether written work gets done and marked between lessons. Set it, do it, return it marked to the scheme. A student completing timed questions each week needs roughly half the sessions of one who only turns up, and no discount available anywhere matches that saving.

  6. 06

Review on paper scores at session four

At the fourth session compare paper scores on the target component against the starting point. Extend, change or stop on that evidence. A review point that is written into the plan in advance is what separates a costed intervention from an open-ended monthly payment nobody audits.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The price is on the page, in AED

Market bands are published here with the provider that quoted each one and the month of the quote. Three of the six competitor pages researched for this cluster publish no price at all, and the two that do quote US dollars. A family in The Views comparing offers should be able to see the range before making a call.

No drive inside the rate

Lessons run one-to-one over live video, so none of the hour is spent on Sheikh Zayed Road and none of the rate pays for it. From Emirates Living the school-run drive to Al Barsha or Al Sufouh is twenty to forty minutes each way, which is the premium in-home pricing exists to cover.

Matched to a component, not a postcode

The useful question is not who is nearby but who has marked the paper your child is losing marks on. Choosing by component rather than by distance widens the pool to every specialist free at that hour, which is the practical argument for the online format in a subject with three distinct mark schemes.

Syllabus codes, not subject labels

Cambridge 0610, 0620, 0625, 0653 and 0654 and Pearson 4BI1, 4CH1 and 4PH1 behave differently in question stems and mark schemes. Work is planned against the code the candidate is entered for, and past papers come from that code, which is the difference between practice and busywork.

The honesty boundary is stated

A tutor teaches, explains, sets practice and gives feedback on the student's own work. Nothing assessed is produced for a student, ever. One operator in this market sells completed Internal Assessments, which is a malpractice trigger for the candidate, and the boundary is worth saying out loud rather than leaving implied.

Availability is disclosed before payment

Specialist cover varies by subject and by hour, and the 4pm to 6pm Gulf Standard Time window is the tightest in the week. If no exact specialist is free for the slot a family needs, that is said before anything is paid, with the alternatives named. Concealed coverage limits are a cost that arrives later.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in The Views: your questions answered

What does an IGCSE science tutor for The Views cost per hour?+

Market rates reaching The Views run from roughly AED 45 an hour at the budget online end to AED 650 for a premium named tutor, as published by providers in October 2026. Most families transact between AED 150 and 300 for a qualified subject tutor working online, and AED 200 to 450 or more for a subject specialist. In-home one-to-one is quoted at AED 180 to 500, with the drive inside the rate. Those are market bands rather than an IB Gram price list. What varies inside a band is whether the hour contains marked written work or only conversation, and that difference matters more than the number.

Is one tutor for all three sciences cheaper than three specialists?+

It is usually cheaper per hour and often more expensive per mark. Biology, Chemistry and Physics at Extended tier are three syllabuses with three mark schemes, and few tutors mark all three to examiner standard. Where a candidate has one narrow problem in each subject, a single tutor on alternating weeks can work and halves the weekly cost. Where one science has a broad problem, that subject needs its own specialist. The honest test is to ask the tutor to name the component costing marks in each of the three. A tutor who can do that for all three is rare and worth keeping.

Do triple-award candidates need more tutoring hours than double-award?+

Yes, roughly in proportion to the papers sat. Three separate sciences means three multiple-choice papers, three theory papers and three practical components, so there is simply more assessed material. Co-ordinated Sciences 0654 produces two grades from the same three strands and Combined Science 0653 produces one, which concentrates the work. With a combined award the efficient approach is diagnostic: identify which strand is dragging the single grade and spend the hours there. Buying three subjects' worth of support for one combined grade is one of the commonest overspends in this market.

Is a group science class in Barsha Heights better value than one-to-one?+

Per hour, clearly yes. Per problem, usually not. A group class is sold at a lower per-student rate and delivers a shared pace across a syllabus, which suits broad revision before a series. It does not suit one candidate's specific weakness, because the weakest topic for your child is rarely the topic the group needs that week. A reasonable sequence is a group class for syllabus coverage if the school is not already providing it, plus a short one-to-one block aimed at the component the mock paper identified. Paying group prices to solve an individual problem is a false economy.

How many sessions does it take to fix electricity and magnetism?+

For a candidate who understands the rest of Physics and loses marks on circuits, six sessions is a realistic block: roughly one per sub-topic, plus retrieval practice and two timed papers. At the mid market band of AED 200 an hour that is around AED 1,200 of indicative arithmetic, not a quoted price. The variable that changes it most is whether the student completes and submits the written work between sessions. A candidate who does needs about half the hours of one who does not, which is a bigger saving than any rate negotiation will produce.

Does paying more per hour buy a better science tutor?+

Not reliably. The published spread in Dubai is roughly fourteenfold for what is advertised as the same service, and a high rate can reflect scarcity in a subject at a particular hour rather than method or experience. The checkable signals are different: can the tutor name the component your child is losing marks in before being booked, will they mark written work against the published scheme rather than discuss it, and do they know the syllabus code rather than just the subject. Those three questions separate tutors more accurately than price does, and all three can be tested in a trial lesson.

When in Year 10 is the cheapest time to start science support?+

The cheapest intervention is usually the earliest small one. A short diagnostic in the first term of Year 10, once the tier entry is known, costs a few hours and prevents a weak strand becoming a whole-subject problem by the mocks. Waiting until the spring of Year 11 does not raise rates formally, but it narrows availability sharply, and a family looking for a specialist in April chooses from whoever is left. Early also means the work can be spread, and spread hours are both cheaper per month and more effective than the same hours compressed.

Do science tutoring rates in Dubai rise before the June series?+

Published rates do not generally move, but effective cost does. As a series approaches, demand concentrates in the 4pm to 6pm Gulf Standard Time window, specialists in Chemistry and Physics fill first, and families accept adjacent rather than exact specialisms or less convenient slots. That is a quality cost rather than a price rise. Some providers do sell intensive exam-term packages at higher monthly totals because the session count is higher. The practical conclusion is to book the specialist and the slot early, even if the sessions themselves start later in the year.

What should I ask about price before the first science lesson?+

Six questions settle it. Is the rate per clock hour or per lesson, and how long is a lesson? Is marking of written work between sessions included or extra? Is there a minimum block, and can we stop at a review point? What happens to unused sessions? Is the rate per subject if two sciences share a slot? And does the quoted figure include VAT? Ask them in writing and keep the reply. Most disputes in this market come from the gap between an hourly rate and what the hour included, not from the rate itself.

Are the AED rates quoted per hour or per session?+

Both conventions exist in Dubai, which is exactly why comparison is hard. Some providers quote a clock-hour rate; others quote per session, where a session may be fifty, sixty or ninety minutes. A few quote monthly packages with a stated session count, such as the AED 799 a month for eight online sessions visible in the market. Convert everything to a cost per sixty minutes of teaching before comparing, and ask separately whether marking between sessions is inside that number. Two quotes that look twenty per cent apart are sometimes identical once normalised.

Can the alternative-to-practical paper be taught over video?+

Yes, and it is one of the better uses of an online hour. The alternative-to-practical paper is a written paper: read a method, complete a results table, plot and interpret a graph, spot an anomalous point, name a source of error, suggest one improvement. All of that is paper technique and responds to marking. Where a school enters the practical test instead, the hands-on work belongs to the school, and tutoring supports the surrounding decisions - table layout, precision, how many readings and at what intervals. Those are made before any apparatus is touched.

Is Cambridge or Pearson science cheaper to get tutoring for?+

The rate is the same; the availability is not. Cambridge syllabuses are more widely entered in Dubai, so the pool of tutors who know 0610, 0620 and 0625 well is larger and easier to fill at awkward hours. Pearson's 4BI1, 4CH1 and 4PH1 need a tutor who works from the Pearson specification and Pearson past papers, and that pool is smaller. The real cost difference appears if a family buys the wrong board's practice. Confirm the board per subject rather than per school, because some schools enter a mixture.

How do I check a private science tutor may legally teach in the UAE?+

Private tutoring in the UAE runs on a MoHRE private tuition work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. MoHRE's service page is titled Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing. Ask any individual tutor whether they hold the permit and check the official page yourself. Anyone quoting you a fee for it, or a fine amount, is working from something that is not published.

What happens to the money if the first science tutor is the wrong match?+

Ask before you pay, in writing, and prefer arrangements with a review point rather than a long prepaid block. A sensible structure is a free trial lesson first, then a short diagnostic block, then a review at the fourth session against paper scores on the target component. If the component has not moved, the right move is to change the tutor or the target, not to extend. Avoid any arrangement that ties a refund to an exam outcome; outcomes depend on the student's own work and no honest provider prices them.

What if no Physics specialist is free for the hours we need?+

That happens, most often in the 4pm to 6pm Gulf Standard Time window during an exam term, and the honest answer is one of three. A different slot, sometimes a morning at a weekend, which is usually the best of the three. A short wait for the right specialist, which is reasonable in autumn and risky in April. Or an adjacent specialism - a Chemistry teacher strong on quantitative work covering the calculation side while Paper 6 technique waits. Which one applies should be said before any payment, not discovered afterwards.

Price the problem, then buy the hours

The useful order is cheap first: ask the school what is already included, confirm the board, code and tier for each science, collect the last two marked scripts, then test a tutor on a free trial lesson by asking them to name the component that is costing marks. Buy a diagnostic rather than a term, write down the component, the session count and the measurement, and review on paper scores at the fourth session. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, which keeps the drive out of the rate and widens the choice to every specialist free at that hour. The market bands on this page are published so a family in The Views can compare offers before anyone picks up a phone.
