IGCSE Maths Tutor in The Views

Most parents searching for an IGCSE maths tutor in The Views assume mathematics is mathematics. It is not: five different qualifications share that name, and a child in Emirates Living could be sitting any of them. IB Gram matches your child to a tutor who teaches their exact code and tier, and the lesson runs live online, one-to-one, on Gulf Standard Time, from a desk rather than after a drive.

  • Matched to the code and tier: 0580, 0980, 0607, 0606 or 4MA1
  • Non-calculator and calculator papers prepared as separate skills
  • First lesson free, one per family, no card details taken to book

Five qualifications, one word, and the question nobody asks the school

The honest version of your search is this: you want somebody within reach who knows the paper your child is sitting. The reach part is easy to solve and the knowing part is where this market quietly fails. Within a short drive of Emirates Golf Club there are capable mathematics teachers and a number of tuition centres. What is much harder to find locally, free on the evening you have available, is somebody who can tell you without hesitating whether your child is entered for Cambridge 0580 or 0980, whether the tier caps the grade at C or at 5, and which of the two papers is sat without a calculator.

That is not pedantry. A Views student could be sitting Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580, graded A* to G. They could be sitting 0980, which is the same mathematics graded 9 to 1. They could be sitting Cambridge International Mathematics 0607, which assumes a graphic display calculator throughout and is favoured by schools pointing children at the IB. They could be taking Cambridge Additional Mathematics 0606 alongside the main course. Or they could be on Pearson Edexcel Mathematics A, 4MA1, with Foundation and Higher tiers and a different paper structure again. Dubai schools choose subject by subject, and splitting boards across a timetable is ordinary here.

Get the code wrong and a tutor still teaches useful mathematics. They simply teach it in the wrong proportions, with the wrong calculator policy, towards the wrong paper. A student preparing for a two-hour Pearson Higher paper and a student preparing for a Cambridge Extended non-calculator paper need different work in the last ten weeks, and the difference is worth grades rather than marks.

So IB Gram drops proximity as a criterion and keeps the two that decide whether an hour helps: the code and the tier. The lesson arrives over live video, one-to-one, on Gulf Standard Time, with the same tutor weekly and a written note afterwards. Nobody drives to a Views tower; in-home visiting is a service we run in India only. For mathematics that is a straightforward gain, because the work is shared-screen work: a past-paper question opened beside its mark scheme, a solution written out line by line so the method marks are visible, a graph replotted until the scale is right.

The rest of this page is a reference you can use against any tutor, ours included. It sets out the five qualifications and who sits them, the paper structures by board, the dozen topics that cost Views students the most marks, why method marks decide more grades than knowledge does, and what the jump to Diploma mathematics actually requires. It gives you questions that separate somebody who teaches the paper from somebody who is good at mathematics, and it shows you how to verify any AED rate you are quoted against figures already published in this market.

What it does not do is reproduce board material. Cambridge and Pearson past papers, mark schemes, syllabus documents and grade-boundary tables are their copyright; we reference them, cite the official pages and work from what your child legitimately has. We publish no grade guarantee and claim no approval from Cambridge, Pearson, KHDA or the Ministry of Education, because IB Gram is an independent tutor-matching platform and holds none.

At a glance

  • Cambridge 0580 is graded A* to G; 0980 is the same content graded 9 to 1
  • Cambridge 0607 assumes a graphic display calculator and leads towards the IB
  • Pearson 4MA1 has Foundation and Higher tiers, both with calculators permitted
  • A Core or Foundation entry caps the grade before revision begins
  • Lessons are live online one-to-one; no tutor visits a UAE address
  • Syllabuses are revised, so check the current version on the board's own site
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Before a tutor is useful, somebody has to establish which qualification is on the entry. These are the five that turn up on Dubai school entries, with what each one is for.

0580 / 0980Ages 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics

The default British-curriculum mathematics qualification, offered in two graded forms: 0580 reported A* to G and 0980 reported 9 to 1, with the same subject content. Each is tiered. A Core entry sits two papers and is capped at grade C, or grade 5 in the 9 to 1 version. An Extended entry sits two harder papers and reaches A* or grade 9. From the 2025 series Cambridge included a non-calculator paper in this syllabus.

This is what most Views students sitting Cambridge mathematics are entered for, and the grading version differs between schools in the same neighbourhood. Ask which one appears on the statement of entry, because a parent comparing a child's grade 6 with a cousin's grade B is comparing two different scales of the same qualification.

0607Ages 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge International Mathematics

A separate Cambridge syllabus built around technology use, with a graphic display calculator assumed throughout rather than permitted on one paper. Also tiered into Core and Extended. The emphasis falls on modelling, interpretation and using a device deliberately, which makes it a markedly different preparation from 0580 even where the topic list looks similar.

Dubai schools running the IB continuum, or planning to, often enter students for 0607 because it feeds Diploma mathematics more naturally than 0580 does. A Views family whose child is on 0607 and is being tutored from 0580 past papers is being prepared for the wrong examination, and the mismatch is easy to miss.

0606Ages 15-16 · Year 11

Cambridge Additional Mathematics

Taken alongside the main IGCSE by strong mathematicians, covering material that overlaps the start of A Level and Diploma Higher Level: calculus, trigonometric identities, series and functions handled formally. Calculators are permitted. It is not a replacement for the main qualification but an extension of it.

The best single preparation available for Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level, and the reason some Views students arrive in DP1 comfortable while classmates with the same main grade struggle. Where a school offers it, it is worth asking whether your child should be in the set.

4MA1Ages 14-16 · Years 10-11

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics A

Two papers of two hours each, both with a calculator permitted, tiered into Foundation and Higher. Foundation is capped at grade 5 and Higher reaches grade 9 with an allowed grade 3 below the normal floor. Pearson offers series in May or June and in November each year, with results dates published for each series.

Several Dubai schools serving Emirates Living enter mathematics with Pearson while using Cambridge for sciences, so a Views household can legitimately have two boards on one timetable. The two-hour paper length is itself a preparation issue: stamina across two long papers is a different skill from four shorter ones.

4MB1Ages 15-16 · Year 11

Pearson Further Pure Mathematics

Pearson's extension qualification, the counterpart to Cambridge 0606. Two papers covering calculus, series, coordinate geometry and trigonometry at a level that overlaps the first term of A Level or Diploma Higher Level mathematics.

Less commonly offered in Dubai than 0606 but present in some schools. Students who sit it tend to find the transition into Higher Level mathematics the easiest of any route, which is worth knowing when a school asks whether your child should take an extra mathematics option in Year 11.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Mathematics rarely arrives on its own. These are the IGCSE subjects most often tutored alongside it for Views students, with the specific thing each one needs rather than a general description.

Mathematics

0580, 0980, 0607, 4MA1 · Core, Extended, Foundation, Higher

The subject funded first in most households. Marks are lost to method rather than knowledge: answers reached by an unfollowable route, algebra skipped three lines at a time, and a non-calculator paper met by a student who has not worked without a device since Year 9.

Additional and Further Pure Mathematics

0606, 4MB1

Extension courses taken alongside the main paper. The content overlaps the start of A Level and Diploma Higher Level, so the marks lost here are usually in formal notation and in sustaining a multi-step argument rather than in the individual techniques.

Physics

0625, 4PH1 · Core, Extended

The subject whose problems most often turn out to be mathematical. A student who cannot rearrange a formula confidently will fail physics questions they understand, and the repair belongs in the mathematics session rather than the physics one.

Chemistry

0620, 4CH1 · Core, Extended

Moles arithmetic is the first obstacle and it is proportional reasoning in disguise. Students who struggle with ratio in mathematics struggle with moles in chemistry, and tutoring one usually improves the other without being asked to.

Biology

0610, 4BI1 · Core, Extended

Command-term discipline and answer length, plus the statistics and experimental-design strands that get far less practice time than they carry in marks. Magnification and scale calculations are a recurring quiet loss.

English Language

0500, 4EA1 · First Language

Directed writing and the reading summary carry most of the marks and respond faster to coaching than any other IGCSE component. A student who learns to plan for four minutes before writing typically gains more per hour here than anywhere else.

Economics

0455, 4EC1

Diagram precision and data response. The quantitative questions on elasticity and index numbers are where a mathematically shaky student concedes marks without noticing, which is why it pairs so often with mathematics tutoring.

Business Studies

0450, 4BS1

Break-even, cash flow and ratio analysis are mathematics questions inside a business paper. Students who can define the terms and not compute the figures lose the higher-band marks, and the fix is arithmetic confidence rather than more business theory.

Computer Science

0478

Pseudocode, trace tables and data representation. Binary and hexadecimal conversion is pure number work, and students weak in place value in mathematics are weak in it here, in the same way and for the same reason.

ICT

0417

Spreadsheet formulas and data handling in the practical papers. The theory paper rewards precise vocabulary that students approximate, and the practical papers reward exactly the deliberate, step-checking habit mathematics tutoring tends to build.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Mathematics bookings from this community take three shapes, and each one matches a different point in the Year 10 and Year 11 cycle rather than a different price point.

Weekly code-matched hour, from Year 10

One subject, one fixed evening, started early. The content in IGCSE mathematics is cumulative, so a gap in indices or in solving equations in Year 10 shows up as a failure in trigonometry and algebraic fractions in Year 11. Holding a weekly hour from September is cheaper across two years than a rescue block in the spring and produces a better paper.

  • 60 minutes, one named evening, same tutor throughout
  • Works from the school's scheme of work and its own assessments
  • Typical starts 16:30 from The Greens, 17:30 from Al Sufouh
  • Short written note after each session naming what to practise

Two-paper split block

Used where a student is clearly stronger on one paper than the other. Sessions alternate: one week on calculator-paper technique and interpretation, the next on by-hand algebra and arithmetic under non-calculator conditions. It exists because treating a tiered mathematics syllabus as one undifferentiated subject is the commonest preparation error in this market.

  • Alternating focus across the two papers of the entry
  • Timed sections worked in the session, marked in the session
  • Diagnosed from the student's own mock scripts, not a generic test
  • Usually six to ten sessions in the spring of Year 11

Bridging block into Diploma or A Level mathematics

Four to eight sessions in the summer between Year 11 and the sixth form, aimed at students heading for Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level or A Level mathematics. The gap between an Extended grade 7 and the fluency Higher Level assumes is real, and closing it in July costs far less than repairing it in February.

  • 4-8 sessions across the summer break
  • Algebraic fluency, formal notation and proof conventions
  • Covers the content Additional Mathematics students already have
  • Runs online wherever the family is travelling, time zone permitting

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in The Views

01

Five qualifications, one name: what your child is actually entered for

The single most useful thing a Views parent can do before buying any mathematics tutoring is find the statement of entry or an exam entry letter and read the code on it. It takes two minutes and it determines whether an hour of tutoring is aimed at the right paper.

Cambridge offers the mainstream syllabus in two graded versions. 0580 is reported on the A* to G scale and 0980 reports the identical content on the 9 to 1 scale. Schools in the same part of Dubai choose differently, which is why two Views children in the same year can hold grades that are not directly comparable. Both are tiered: a Core entry sits two papers and cannot be awarded above grade C, or grade 5 on the numbered scale, while an Extended entry reaches A* or grade 9. From the 2025 series Cambridge included a non-calculator paper in this syllabus, a change that caught a cohort of students who had worked with a device for every assessment since Year 7.

Cambridge International Mathematics 0607 is a different syllabus rather than a variant. A graphic display calculator is assumed throughout, and the emphasis sits on modelling and interpretation. Schools running or planning the IB continuum frequently prefer it because it leads into Diploma mathematics more naturally. Pearson Edexcel Mathematics A, 4MA1, takes a third approach: two papers of two hours, calculators permitted on both, Foundation capped at grade 5 and Higher reaching grade 9 with an allowed grade 3. And alongside any of these sit the extension qualifications, Cambridge Additional Mathematics 0606 and Pearson Further Pure Mathematics 4MB1, taken by students heading for Higher Level or A Level.

One caution applies to everything in this section. Awarding bodies revise syllabuses, change paper structures and move assessment models, and a tutoring page is not the authority on any of it. Check the current specification on cambridgeinternational.org or qualifications.pearson.com, and confirm the entry with your child's school. We reference those documents rather than reproducing them, because they are the boards' copyright.

02

What the papers look like, and why stamina is a separate skill

Two students can cover the same topics and still be unprepared for each other's examination, because the shape of the paper is itself a thing to train for. The number of papers, their length and whether a device is permitted change how a student should revise in the final six weeks.

A Pearson 4MA1 candidate sits two papers of two hours with a calculator on both. The challenge there is endurance and consistency: a hundred marks in a single sitting, with the back end of the paper carrying the harder multi-step questions at exactly the point concentration is fading. Practice has to include whole papers to time, not question sets, because a student who scores well on twenty-minute sections and fades after ninety minutes has a problem no amount of topic revision will reveal.

A Cambridge Extended candidate sits two papers as well, one of them without a calculator since the 2025 series. The challenge is different: the non-calculator paper exposes arithmetic and algebraic fluency directly, and a student who has typed every calculation since Year 7 will lose marks on work they understand perfectly. The fix is mechanical and slightly tedious, which is why schools rarely have time for it and why it is one of the better uses of a paid hour.

A 0607 candidate faces a third situation again: the device is assumed rather than permitted, so questions are written on the premise that computation is free and interpretation is the assessed skill. Preparing a 0607 student from 0580 papers under-trains exactly the thing they will be marked on. The table sets out the shapes side by side so you can see which preparation your child's entry actually calls for.

The dozen topics that cost Views students the most marks

  • Algebraic manipulation, rearranging and algebraic fractions, hidden inside everything else
  • Reverse percentages and inverse proportion, the worst-answered questions on most papers
  • Circle theorems and angle reasoning, where the mark is for the stated reason
  • Sine and cosine rules applied to the wrong triangle configuration
  • Vectors and set notation, defeated by notation rather than by concept
  • Histograms with unequal class widths, and standard form without a calculator

Across the IGCSE mathematics students we see from Emirates Living, lost marks concentrate in a short list of topics, and the list is stable enough to plan against. Knowing it lets a family use a limited number of paid hours on the places where the marks actually are instead of revising from page one.

At the top sits algebraic manipulation in all its forms: expanding and factorising, rearranging a formula to change the subject, and algebraic fractions. These are not topics so much as a skill every other topic hides inside it, which is why a student can appear to have a problem with trigonometry and in fact have a problem with rearranging. Simultaneous equations and quadratics follow, especially where a question requires choosing a method rather than applying the one just taught.

The second cluster is proportional reasoning: ratio, direct and inverse proportion, percentage change and reverse percentages, and compound interest. Reverse percentage questions are reliably the worst-answered on any paper, because students subtract when they should divide and the error is invisible to them. The third cluster is geometry with reasons attached, where circle theorems and angle work in parallel lines require a stated justification rather than a correct number, and the mark is for the reason.

Then the ones that look advanced and are mostly technique: trigonometry beyond right-angled triangles, where the sine and cosine rules are applied to the wrong configuration; vectors, where notation defeats students who understand the geometry; transformations of graphs, where a sign is mishandled; probability from tree diagrams and set notation, where the error is reading the question; and histograms with unequal class widths, which almost nobody is taught carefully. Standard form and surds round out the list, and both are pure non-calculator exposure.

04

Method marks decide more grades than knowledge does

If a Views parent takes one thing from this page, it should be this. On both boards, a large share of the available marks are awarded for the method rather than the final answer, and a student who reaches the right number by a route the examiner cannot follow loses those marks entirely. This is the commonest reason a child who understands the mathematics comes home with a grade that makes no sense to anybody.

The habit forms early and innocently. A capable student in Year 9 does three lines of algebra in their head because it is faster, writes the answer, and is marked correct by a teacher with thirty books to get through. By Year 11 the questions have five steps and the same student writes two lines, loses three method marks on each of six questions, and finishes with a grade 6 on a paper they could have scored a grade 8 on. Nothing about their understanding is at fault.

Fixing it requires a mark scheme and somebody willing to be irritating about it. A tutor opens a past-paper question, has the student write the full solution, then compares it line by line against where the marks were actually allocated. Two or three sessions of that is usually enough for the penny to drop, and the gain is immediate because it applies to every question on both papers rather than to one topic. It is also the single clearest demonstration of why a tutor needs the right code: the mark allocation and the expected working differ between Cambridge and Pearson papers.

There is a second, related habit worth naming. Students abandon questions rather than banking partial credit. A multi-step question where the first part is accessible and the last part is not still carries marks for the accessible parts, and a student who skips the whole question because they cannot see the end of it is giving away marks they already own. Training a child to write what they can and move on is worth more in the final month than any new content.

05

From IGCSE mathematics to the Diploma: the gap that opens in October

A great many Views students go from IGCSE mathematics into the IB Diploma, and the handover is where the most expensive surprise in this whole cycle lives. An Extended grade 7, or a grade 7 on the numbered scale, reads as a strong result and is one. It is not, by itself, preparation for Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level.

The reason is the difference between competence and fluency. IGCSE rewards a student who can carry out a technique when asked for it. Diploma Higher Level assumes the technique is automatic and spends its time on what is built on top: formal proof, calculus developed properly, and problems where three or four techniques have to be combined without being named. A student who has to think about rearranging has no capacity left for the actual question, and that shortfall does not appear in September when the course is revising. It appears in late October when the first proof and calculus unit arrives.

The students who make the transition comfortably are almost always the ones who took Additional Mathematics 0606 or Further Pure 4MB1, or who did deliberate bridging work in the summer. That is a cheap intervention: four to eight sessions in July and August on algebraic fluency, notation conventions and the habits of formal argument. Repairing the same gap in February of DP1, with a syllabus running alongside it, costs several times as much and recovers less.

The table maps the common routes into Diploma mathematics and what each one leaves to close. It is written for a decision a family is making in Year 11 rather than as an after-the-fact explanation, because the useful moment to read it is before the sixth-form choices are submitted.

Ten minutes of questions that tell you whether a tutor knows the paper

You do not need to be a mathematician to test one. You need a handful of questions whose answers are specific enough that general competence cannot cover for them, and the willingness to notice a vague reply. Ask these of us in the free first lesson, and ask them of anybody else you are considering.

Start with the code. A tutor who teaches these papers routinely will ask you for it before you offer it, and will react to the answer: a different reaction to 0607 than to 0580, a question about the tier, a question about which grading scale the school uses. A tutor who says that it is all the same mathematics is telling you something true and useless, because you are not buying mathematics, you are buying preparation for one examination.

Then ask about the calculator position and the tier ceiling, because those two facts shape the entire final term and a person who has prepared candidates knows them without pausing. Ask what they would want to see before the second session; the answer you want involves your child's marked work rather than the tutor's own diagnostic. And ask how they handle method marks, which is the question that most reliably separates a teacher from somebody who is simply good at the subject.

A tutor who says they will check the current specification and come back to you is being honest and that is a better sign than a confident wrong answer. Syllabuses genuinely change, and the 0580 non-calculator paper is recent enough that a tutor returning from a few years away could reasonably need to confirm it. What should worry you is fluency without specificity: lots of reassurance, no codes, no tiers, no mention of mark schemes.

What this costs, and how to check any figure you are quoted

A parent in The Views can verify almost any tutoring quote in about fifteen minutes, which is unusual in this market and worth doing. The method is simple: find out what band a quote sits in, then check whether the service matches the band. The bands below are other providers' own published figures, read in October 2026, and they are all publicly visible on the providers' sites.

At the bottom, online tutoring from university students is advertised at roughly AED 33 to AED 52 an hour by Tutopiya and from AED 45 to AED 65 by EdFlik. Qualified online subject tutoring begins around AED 150, with Unitors publishing IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. Named IGCSE and A Level specialists are quoted at AED 200 to AED 450 and above, TutorChase at AED 270, and Bestimate's 2026 Dubai rate table reaching AED 450 or more at the specialist end. In-home one-to-one visits are quoted at AED 180 to AED 500 including travel, with Bestimate's usual band AED 180 to AED 350. Premium and former-examiner tutors are quoted up to AED 650 by BartyED.

So the check runs like this. If you are quoted AED 250 an hour, you are in the named-specialist band, and the questions in the previous section are what that band should be able to answer without hesitating. If you are quoted AED 60, you are buying supervision, which is a legitimate purchase for a drifting Year 10 student and will not diagnose a mock script. If you are quoted AED 400 for an online hour, ask what the premium is for, because the published market does not support that figure for a standard IGCSE hour without a specific reason such as examiner experience, which should be evidenced rather than asserted.

Two further checks are worth running on any quote. Ask whether the figure is per hour or per session, because a fifty-minute session priced hourly is a ten per cent difference nobody mentions. And ask what is included: marked work between sessions, written notes, access to the tutor's own resources. None of these figures is ours. IB Gram publishes no fixed price list on these pages, because the code, the tier and the slot all change what the right tutor costs, and the honest version is a quote after a free first lesson.

Starting from The Views, and the limits we state before you book

Three pieces of information get this moving: the school, the code and tier from a statement of entry or a school letter, and the evenings that are genuinely free. If you cannot find the code, tell us the school and the year and we will tell you what to ask for. A marked mock script or a recent assessment is worth more than any of it, because it shows whether the marks went to method, to a specific topic, or to running out of time on a two-hour paper.

Then the free first lesson. One per family, around thirty minutes, no charge and no card details taken. A good one ends with the tutor naming the pattern rather than the topic, and saying what the first four sessions would do about it. If what you hear instead is a general plan to cover the syllabus, that is useful information and it cost you nothing.

The arrangement afterwards is intentionally unremarkable. Same tutor, same evening, a short written note after each session recording what was covered and what to practise. Those notes are how you judge in week six whether the same weakness is still being described, which is a much better signal than a feeling about progress. If the match is wrong, say so after the second lesson and we will change the tutor.

The limits, stated before anything is booked. Nobody travels to a UAE address; in-home visiting is an India-only service. We do not reproduce or supply Cambridge or Pearson papers, mark schemes, syllabus documents or grade-boundary tables, because they belong to the boards; we cite the official pages and work from what your child legitimately holds. We guarantee no grade. We hold and claim no approval from Cambridge, Pearson, KHDA or the Ministry of Education. And where no tutor for your child's code and tier is free in your slot, you get a realistic date instead of a substitute.

The schools and communities this cohort comes from

IGCSE mathematics entries differ school by school around The Views, which is why the code question matters locally rather than abstractly. These are the neighbourhoods that share the catchment.

The Greens

Continuous with The Views in practice. Regent International School sits inside it, so students there are home earliest and can take the best slot of the evening without any travel at all.

The Meadows

Emirates International School Meadows runs the IB continuum here, which is why 0607 and the graphic display calculator question come up more often from this side of the cluster than from the Barsha schools.

Emirates Hills

Dubai British School Emirates Hills carries a large British-curriculum IGCSE cohort, and the mathematics enquiries from here are mostly Extended-tier technique rather than content rescue.

The Lakes

Villas across the golf course, driven rather than bussed, which puts the realistic start after 17:00 and makes weekend technique sessions more common among this group.

Al Barsha

Kings' School Al Barsha, Nord Anglia International School Dubai and American School of Dubai. A mixed board picture, and the usual source of students arriving mid-Year 10 from another system entirely.

Al Sufouh

Dubai College and GEMS Wellington International School, both selective. Mathematics enquiries from here tend to be about grade 8 to grade 9 technique and about Additional Mathematics rather than about failing.

Barsha Heights

Group mathematics classes run in the tuition centres here. They work where a set of students share one code and one tier, and poorly where they do not, which is the trade Views parents are weighing.

Dubai Internet City

The nearest metro station, which occasionally lets a Year 11 student return independently and frees a parent from the second drive of the day.

Jumeirah Lake Towers

A separate tutoring market one interchange away with its own prices, and a useful reminder that a tutor based there spends twenty to forty minutes crossing Interchange 5 at 18:00.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in The Views

Emirates Living: The Views, Greens, Meadows and Lakes

The immediate catchment. Between them these schools enter mathematics with more than one board and more than one syllabus code, which is exactly why a Views parent cannot assume a neighbour's tutor is teaching the same paper.

Al Barsha, Al Sufouh and Barsha Heights

The schools across Sheikh Zayed Road that take a large share of Views secondary students. Longer travel days push their mathematics sessions later into the evening or onto the weekend.

Schools appear here only to describe the educational setting around The Views. IB Gram is an independent tutor-matching platform with no affiliation, partnership, endorsement or commercial relationship with any school, school group, awarding body or education regulator named on this page.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Find the code and the tier

A statement of entry, an exam letter or the school office will give you the awarding body, the four-character code and whether the entry is Core, Extended, Foundation or Higher. Those three facts decide what the tutoring has to prepare for.

  2. 02

Send a marked script if you have one

A mock paper with marks on it distinguishes method-mark loss from a topic gap from a stamina problem on a two-hour paper. Those three have different remedies, and guessing between them wastes the first month.

  3. 03

Matched to the paper, not the subject

A tutor is proposed because they have prepared candidates for that code at that tier. If the right person is a few days out, you get the date rather than a general mathematics tutor who is free tonight.

  4. 04

Free first lesson used as a diagnosis

One per family, about thirty minutes, no charge and no card details. It should finish with the pattern named and the first four sessions outlined, including which of the two papers needs the work.

  5. 05

Hold the slot, review at the mock

Same tutor, same evening, written notes each time. The plan is reviewed against the school's assessment calendar, with intensity rising before mocks and the terminal series rather than running flat all year.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Code and tier, not just the subject name

0580, 0980, 0607, 0606 and 4MA1 are five different preparations. Matching on the entry rather than on the word mathematics is the detail most of this market skips entirely.

The two papers treated as two skills

A calculator paper rewards interpretation and stamina; a non-calculator paper exposes by-hand fluency. Sessions alternate deliberately rather than treating the syllabus as one undifferentiated body of content.

Method marks worked against real mark schemes

Full solutions written out and compared line by line to where marks are actually awarded. It is the fastest grade movement available in IGCSE mathematics and it applies to every question rather than one topic.

Board material cited, never reproduced

Past papers, mark schemes, syllabus documents and grade boundaries belong to Cambridge and Pearson. We link the official pages and work from what your child legitimately holds, which is both lawful and better teaching.

Every rate traceable to its publisher

The AED bands on this page carry the provider that published them in October 2026, so you can check a quote against the market yourself. We publish no fixed price of our own.

Independent, with the gaps disclosed

No Cambridge, Pearson, KHDA or Ministry of Education approval is held or claimed. Where coverage for a code and slot is tight, you are told before booking rather than after.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in The Views: your questions answered

Is Cambridge 0580 the same qualification as 0980?+

The subject content is the same; the reporting scale is not. 0580 is graded A* to G and 0980 reports the identical mathematics on the 9 to 1 scale. Schools in the same part of Dubai choose differently, so two Views children in the same year group can hold grades that are not directly comparable. Both syllabuses are tiered, with the Core route capped at grade C on 0580 and grade 5 on 0980. Check which version appears on your child's statement of entry rather than assuming the neighbours' answer applies.

My child has a maths paper without a calculator. Since when?+

Cambridge included a non-calculator paper in its mainstream IGCSE mathematics syllabus from the 2025 series. For a cohort that had used a device for every assessment since Year 7, that is a genuine shift rather than a technicality, because the non-calculator paper exposes arithmetic and algebraic fluency directly. Pearson's 4MA1 papers both permit a calculator, so a child moving between schools can go from one position to the other. The remedy is mechanical: timed by-hand algebra and arithmetic, marked against a real mark scheme.

What is Cambridge 0607 and why is my child doing it instead of 0580?+

Cambridge International Mathematics 0607 is a separate syllabus that assumes a graphic display calculator throughout rather than permitting one on a single paper, with more emphasis on modelling and interpreting results. Schools running the IB continuum, or planning it, often prefer it because it feeds Diploma mathematics more naturally. The practical consequence is that a 0607 student tutored from 0580 past papers is being prepared for the wrong examination, which is easy to miss because the topic lists look similar on paper.

Should my child take Additional Mathematics as well?+

If they are heading for Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level or A Level mathematics and the school offers it, it is the best preparation available. Cambridge 0606 and Pearson 4MB1 cover material that overlaps the start of those courses: calculus, trigonometric identities, series and formal functions. Students who take one of them tend to find the sixth-form transition easiest of any route. The cost is timetable space and workload in Year 11, so it suits a student who is comfortable rather than one already stretched across nine subjects.

Why does my child get the right answer and still lose marks?+

Because a large share of the available marks are awarded for method rather than the final answer, and a solution the examiner cannot follow forfeits them. The habit starts in Year 9, when a capable student does three lines of algebra mentally and is marked correct. By Year 11 the questions have five steps, and the same student concedes three method marks on each of six questions. The remedy is a mark scheme and somebody prepared to be irritating about full written solutions, usually across two or three sessions.

Which maths topics should we spend the paid hours on?+

Algebraic manipulation first, because it is hidden inside every other topic and a student who struggles to rearrange a formula will appear to struggle with trigonometry instead. Then proportional reasoning: reverse percentages and inverse proportion are reliably the worst-answered questions on any paper. Then geometry with reasons attached, where the mark is for the stated justification rather than the number. Vectors, set notation and histograms with unequal class widths round out the list, and all three are notation problems rather than conceptual ones.

Will an Extended grade 7 be enough for Higher Level maths?+

Usually not on its own, and this catches Views families every year. An Extended grade 7 shows competence across an IGCSE syllabus. Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level assumes the techniques are automatic and spends its time on proof, formal calculus and multi-step problems that combine several methods without naming them. The gap appears in late October of DP1, not September. Four to eight bridging sessions over the summer cost far less than repairing it in February while a new syllabus runs alongside.

Does the tier my child is entered for cap the grade?+

Yes, and it is settled months before revision begins. A Cambridge Core entry cannot be awarded above grade C on 0580 or grade 5 on 0980. A Pearson Foundation entry is capped at grade 5, while Higher reaches grade 9 with an allowed grade 3 below the usual floor. If your child is capable of more than the ceiling of their entry, that is a conversation to have with the school in the autumn while the entry can still be changed, not in March when the decision has been submitted.

Is a group maths class at a centre in Barsha Heights worth it?+

It can be, under one condition: the students in the group share the same awarding body, the same syllabus code and the same tier. Where they do, the saving is real and the teaching is efficient. Where they do not, the class teaches to an average that fits nobody, and a parent spends two hours of driving and waiting to deliver a one-hour lesson. Ask the centre directly which code and tier the group is prepared for before paying for a term of it.

How can I tell whether a quoted AED rate is reasonable?+

Place it against bands that are already published. Online student-tutor supervision is advertised in Dubai at roughly AED 33 to AED 65 an hour, qualified online subject tutoring from about AED 150, named specialists at AED 200 to AED 450 and above, in-home visits at AED 180 to AED 500 including travel, and premium examiner-led tutors up to AED 650. Those are other providers' own October 2026 figures. Then check the service matches the band: an AED 250 hour should answer code, tier and mark-scheme questions without hesitating.

Is the price per hour or per session, and does it matter?+

It matters more than parents expect, and it is worth asking before the first booking. A fifty-minute session quoted at an hourly rate is a difference of roughly a sixth of what you pay, and across a two-year arrangement that is substantial. Ask three things: how long a session actually runs, whether marking work between sessions is included, and whether written notes are provided. None of the figures published on this page are ours; your own quote follows the free first lesson, because the code, the tier and the slot all change it.

My child is in Year 10 and coping. Is it too early for tutoring?+

For mathematics specifically, Year 10 is the cheapest and most effective time, because the content is cumulative. A gap in indices or in solving equations now becomes a failure in algebraic fractions and trigonometry next year, and repairing it then costs several times as much as preventing it. A single weekly hour from the autumn of Year 10 generally outperforms a crisis block in the spring of Year 11, both in cost and in grade. If the problem is organisation rather than understanding, supervision is the cheaper answer.

Can my child sit maths with one board and sciences with another?+

Yes, and in Dubai it happens constantly. Schools choose specifications subject by subject, so a Views student may sit Pearson Edexcel mathematics alongside Cambridge sciences in the same series. The grades are unaffected. What is affected is preparation, because the boards structure papers differently, set different calculator policies and reward working differently. Tell any prospective tutor the code rather than the subject name, and ask which board's papers they normally teach from before committing to a term.

What if the tutor we need is not free on our evening?+

You are told, with a date. The 17:00 to 18:00 window is the one every Emirates Living family wants, and for a specific code and tier it is sometimes genuinely full. The alternative to saying so is placing a tutor who prepares a different paper, which costs a term before anyone notices the mismatch. Usually the fix is an adjacent evening or a weekend morning. Occasionally it is a wait of a few days, and whether to hold the slot is your decision rather than ours.

Find the code first, then the tutor

Nearly everything about preparing for IGCSE mathematics depends on a four-character code and one word about the tier, and most families never go looking for either. Find the statement of entry, note the board, the code and whether the entry is Core, Extended, Foundation or Higher, and send it with a marked mock script if you have one. We will propose a tutor who has prepared candidates for that exact paper, arrange a free first lesson of about thirty minutes with no card details taken, and tell you honestly if the right person is a few days out rather than filling the hour with somebody teaching a different examination.
