IB Maths Tutor in The Views

The real question behind a search for an IB maths tutor in The Views is not who is nearby. It is whether anyone within a short drive of Emirates Golf Club teaches Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level as their main subject, including Paper 3. IB Gram answers that honestly: probably not, so we match on the route and the level instead of the postcode, and the lesson runs live online, one-to-one, on Gulf Standard Time.

  • Matched by route and level: AA or AI, Higher or Standard, Paper 3 or not
  • Tutors teach the 2019-onwards syllabus, not a pre-2021 version of it
  • First lesson free, one per family, no card details taken to book
  • Monthly Dubai market figures published here with their sources

IB & IGCSE in The Views

Is there anyone near The Views who actually teaches this syllabus?

Taken literally, the answer is probably no, and a page that pretended otherwise would be useless to you. The Views is a cluster of towers in Emirates Living beside the golf course. Within a ten-minute drive there are good mathematics teachers, there are university students who were strong at A Level, and there are tuition centres running group classes. What there is unlikely to be, in that radius, free at 17:15 on a Tuesday, is somebody whose main teaching subject is IB Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level, who has taught Paper 3 to a cohort, and who can tell you which of the five exploration criteria your child's draft is losing marks against.

That is not a Dubai problem. It is an arithmetic problem. IB mathematics is two separate courses at two levels, which is four distinct teaching jobs. Roughly seven per cent of Dubai private-school enrolment sits on an IB programme at all, and of those students only a fraction take Higher Level mathematics. Narrow further to the ones taking Analysis and Approaches rather than Applications and Interpretation, and the pool of local specialists who teach that course as their day job is genuinely small. Filtering by distance on top of that leaves whoever remains, which is not a selection method.

So IB Gram drops the distance filter and keeps the two that matter: the route and the level. Your child is matched with a tutor who teaches that specific course, and the lesson arrives over live video, one-to-one, on Gulf Standard Time, with the same tutor each week. Nobody drives to a Views tower; in-home visiting is a service we run in India only. For mathematics in particular that is an improvement rather than a compromise, because most of the work is shared-screen work: a graph plotted and replotted, a mark scheme opened beside a past-paper question, an exploration draft annotated line by line and saved for the following week.

The rest of this page is written to let you test any tutor, ours or anybody else's. It sets out the difference between the two routes and what each one implies for university applications. It gives the full assessment structure with the weightings and the paper durations. It names where marks are actually lost at each level, what Paper 3 asks for, and how the exploration is marked criterion by criterion with the mark allocation. It gives you a short list of questions that separate somebody who knows this syllabus from somebody who knows mathematics, and it publishes what the Dubai market charges by the month rather than by the hour, with sources.

What it does not do is quote an exam date. The IB's own site blocks automated checking, so no session or results date in this project has been verified at source. UAE schools sit the May session; for the dates your child is working to, the school's IB coordinator is the only reliable authority. We also publish no grade guarantee, no invented statistic, and no claim of approval from the IB, KHDA or the Ministry of Education, because IB Gram is an independent tutor-matching platform and holds none of those.

If you want to shortcut the reading: the first lesson is free, one per family, about thirty minutes, with no charge and no card details taken. Bring your child's last marked mathematics assessment to it. A tutor who can look at that script and name the pattern, rather than the topic, is the one worth booking.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Four mathematics courses sit behind the single phrase IB maths, and a Views family needs to know which one is on their child's timetable before anything else is discussed. The route is chosen in Year 11 and is difficult to change after the first term of DP1.

AA HLAges 16-19 · 240 taught hours

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches, Higher Level

The proof-and-calculus route taken at depth. Assessment is Paper 1 without a calculator and Paper 2 with one, each two hours and each worth 30% of the grade, plus Paper 3 at one hour and 20%, plus the exploration at 20%. Content runs from proof by induction and complex numbers through to differential equations and Maclaurin series.

This is the course Views students heading for engineering, mathematics, physics or quantitative economics are usually advised into, and the one where tutoring demand from Emirates Living is heaviest. It is also where families most often discover in the second term of DP1 that an Extended IGCSE grade 7 was not the preparation they assumed it was.

AA SLAges 16-19 · 150 taught hours

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches, Standard Level

The same analytical flavour at a reduced scope. Paper 1 without a calculator and Paper 2 with one, each ninety minutes and each 40% of the grade, plus the exploration at 20%. There is no Paper 3. Calculus, functions and trigonometry carry most of the content and most of the lost marks.

A sensible destination for a Views student who wants an analytical course without six Higher Level commitments, and the usual landing place for students who start AA Higher Level and move down during DP1. The move is routine and is better made in November than in April.

AI HLAges 16-19 · 240 taught hours

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation, Higher Level

Modelling, statistics and technology led, with a graphic display calculator assumed on every paper. Paper 1 and Paper 2 are two hours each at 30%, Paper 3 is one hour at 20%, and the exploration is 20%. The statistics content at Higher Level is substantial, including hypothesis testing, regression and Markov chains.

Chosen by students heading towards business, geography, design or the life sciences at university. Views families who selected it believing it to be the easier route are regularly surprised by the Higher Level statistics, which is the single commonest reason for a mid-DP1 tutoring enquiry in this course.

AI SLAges 16-19 · 150 taught hours

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation, Standard Level

The most widely taken of the four. Two ninety-minute papers at 40% each, both with a calculator, plus the exploration at 20%. Content centres on modelling with functions, descriptive statistics and probability, with an emphasis on interpreting a result in context rather than deriving it.

Taken by a large share of Diploma students at the Emirates Living and Al Barsha schools. The marks here are mostly lost to interpretation rather than computation: a correct regression equation followed by a conclusion that does not reference the context earns a fraction of the available credit.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Mathematics is one subject on a Diploma timetable of six, and the requests from The Views rarely arrive alone. These are the courses and components most often tutored alongside or instead of mathematics for students in this community.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

The proof route. Higher Level marks are lost in induction proofs, complex-number manipulation, implicit differentiation and in the written justification that turns a correct answer into a complete one. Standard Level marks go mostly in calculus and in the non-calculator paper's algebra.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

The modelling route. Lost marks cluster in the interpretation sentence rather than the calculation: a hypothesis test completed correctly and then concluded without reference to the significance level, or a regression used to extrapolate well outside the data.

The mathematical exploration

Core component, 20%

A piece of independent mathematical writing marked against five criteria out of twenty marks. Students lose most on personal engagement and reflection, because they choose a topic they do not care about and then describe what they did instead of evaluating it.

Physics

HL and SL

The commonest companion request. A student struggling with Higher Level physics and taking Applications and Interpretation Standard Level mathematics is usually struggling with the mathematics, not the physics, and the fix belongs in the mathematics session.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Energetics, equilibrium and organic mechanisms carry the lost marks. The quantitative strands overlap with mathematics enough that the same student often needs both, which is why Views households frequently book two subjects with two specialists rather than one generalist.

Economics

HL and SL

Diagrams and the three internal assessment commentaries decide the grade. Higher Level adds quantitative content that a student on Applications and Interpretation handles comfortably and one on neither mathematics route finds unexpectedly hard.

Computer Science

HL and SL

Shares an audience with Analysis and Approaches Higher Level. Students who can code often lose marks on the theory paper's precise vocabulary around data structures and complexity, which is a writing problem rather than a programming one.

Business Management

HL and SL

Tool application rather than tool recall. The quantitative sections, break-even and investment appraisal among them, are where a student without either mathematics route at Higher Level tends to concede marks quietly.

Theory of Knowledge

Core

Mathematics is one of the areas of knowledge students most often choose and least often handle well, because they argue that mathematics is certain rather than examining how mathematical knowledge is justified. A mathematics tutor can help more here than most families expect.

Extended Essay in mathematics

Core, 4,000 words

Chosen by a small number of Higher Level students each year and frequently regretted. The research question is the whole difficulty: too broad and it becomes a textbook summary, too narrow and there is nothing to analyse. Process coaching on the question itself is the useful intervention.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Mathematics bookings from this community fall into three shapes, and they correspond to the three points in a Diploma where mathematics tends to go wrong: the start of DP1, the exploration in the middle, and Paper 3 in the final two terms.

Weekly route-matched session

Sixty minutes, one fixed evening, one route. The commonest booking and the one that prevents the other two. Started in the first term of DP1, it keeps a student current with the taught content rather than letting a gap in functions or trigonometry compound into a calculus problem four months later.

  • 60 minutes, one named evening, the same tutor throughout
  • Follows the school's teaching order, not a textbook's
  • Typical starts 16:45 from Meadows, 17:30 from Al Sufouh
  • Written note after each session naming what to practise

Exploration supervision block

Four to eight sessions across the weeks the exploration is being written, usually in the second and third terms of DP1. The work is criterion coaching and feedback on the student's own drafts: narrowing the topic, testing whether the mathematics is genuinely at course level, and pushing the reflection beyond description.

  • 4-8 sessions timed to the school's own interim deadlines
  • Criteria taught explicitly, with the mark allocation shown
  • Feedback on drafts the student has written; no writing by the tutor
  • The school's supervisor stays in charge of the process

Paper 3 and past-paper block

Ninety minutes at the weekend through the last two terms of DP2, used for Higher Level students specifically. Paper 3 is unlike anything else in the course and it is routinely the least-practised component, so the block exists to make an unfamiliar format familiar before May.

  • 90 minutes, weekend morning, worked to exam timing
  • Two extended problems per session, as in the real paper
  • Mark schemes used to show where method marks are awarded
  • Common from the first term of DP2 onwards

IB and IGCSE tutors available to students in The Views

The mathematics requests from The Views divide cleanly: Analysis and Approaches Higher Level for the engineering and economics intentions, Applications and Interpretation Standard Level for everyone else, and a steady stream of exploration supervision in the middle of DP1. Each tutor is matched to one route rather than to mathematics in general.

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in The Views

01

Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation: the choice that decides who can teach your child

Before any conversation about tutors, a Views parent needs to know which of the two courses is on the timetable, because they are not variants of one subject. They share five topic headings and almost nothing else about how they feel to study. Analysis and Approaches is the algebraic and analytical route: proof, calculus developed formally, functions manipulated by hand. Applications and Interpretation is the modelling and statistics route, with a graphic display calculator assumed throughout and an emphasis on what a result means rather than how it was derived.

The practical consequence shows up in the first paper. Analysis and Approaches Paper 1 is sat without a calculator at both levels, which means algebraic fluency is being assessed directly and a student who has leaned on technology since Year 9 is exposed immediately. Every Applications and Interpretation paper assumes a calculator, so the exposure is different: a student who can operate the device but cannot say what the output means loses the interpretation marks, which carry more weight than most candidates believe.

University expectations are the other half of the decision, and they are more specific than school guidance sometimes suggests. Engineering, mathematics, physics and the more quantitative economics courses commonly expect Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level, and some overseas departments state it explicitly. Business, geography, psychology, design and most life-science routes accept either, and a strong Applications and Interpretation grade is worth more than a weak Analysis and Approaches one. Families in The Views aiming at UAE universities should check the specific programme's published requirement rather than assume, because requirements differ between institutions and change.

The reason this matters for tutoring is simple. A tutor who teaches Analysis and Approaches Higher Level can usually cover Applications and Interpretation Standard Level. The reverse is not true, and neither is the assumption that a good A Level mathematics teacher can teach either course well without having taught it. The exploration alone is a different assessment from anything in the A Level system.

02

The assessment structure, paper by paper, with the weightings

Most families know their child's mathematics grade and almost none can say how it is composed. That gap is worth closing before buying any tutoring, because the component a student is losing marks in determines what kind of help is useful. A student weak in the non-calculator paper and a student weak in the exploration need different tutors on different schedules.

At Standard Level, both routes sit two papers of ninety minutes, each worth 40% of the grade, with the exploration making up the remaining 20%. At Higher Level, both routes sit two papers of two hours at 30% each, a third paper of one hour at 20%, and the exploration at 20%. The arithmetic matters: at Higher Level the exploration and Paper 3 together are 40% of the grade, and they are the two components schools have least time to prepare properly.

The weighting also tells you where a late intervention can and cannot help. In February of DP2 there is no realistic way to rebuild a weak algebraic foundation, but Paper 3 technique is genuinely learnable in six sessions because the format is unfamiliar rather than difficult, and the exploration is already submitted. In the first term of DP1 the priority is reversed: the foundation is still fixable and Paper 3 is a year away.

One more thing the table shows. Both papers at Standard Level are worth the same, so a student who is strong with a calculator and weak without one is conceding up to 40% of the grade in Analysis and Approaches. Diagnosing that split is a ten-minute job with two past papers, and it is the first thing a competent tutor will do.

Where the marks actually go, topic by topic

  • Method-mark forfeiture: correct answer, unfollowable working
  • Unjustified conclusion: right statistics, missing interpretation
  • Foundation erosion: indices, quadratics and identities, hidden inside calculus
  • Paper 3 unfamiliarity: stalling on an extended problem rather than failing it
  • Calculator dependence: strong Paper 2, weak Paper 1 in Analysis and Approaches

Reports tell you a grade. They rarely tell you which category of error produced it, and the categories are far more useful than the topics. Across the Diploma mathematics students we see from Emirates Living, lost marks fall into four recognisable patterns, and a tutor who cannot name which one your child has is guessing.

The first is method-mark forfeiture. A student reaches the right answer by a route the examiner cannot follow, or jumps three lines of algebra, and loses the marks allocated to the working rather than the result. This is the most common pattern and the fastest to fix, because it is a habit rather than a gap. Two or three sessions of writing solutions out properly, marked against a real mark scheme, usually converts it.

The second is the unjustified conclusion, and it dominates Applications and Interpretation. A hypothesis test is carried out correctly, the p-value is computed, and then the conclusion is written without reference to the significance level or to the context of the question. The mathematics was right and the marks are gone. The same pattern appears in regression questions where a student extrapolates far outside the data without comment.

The third is foundation erosion, and it is the only one that genuinely needs time. A DP1 student who cannot confidently manipulate indices, solve a quadratic without a calculator or handle a trigonometric identity will struggle through calculus regardless of how well calculus is taught, because every question hides algebra inside it. The fourth is simply unfamiliarity with Paper 3 at Higher Level, where students who perform well on Papers 1 and 2 stall because they have never practised sustaining one problem across twenty-five minutes.

04

Paper 3 at Higher Level: one hour, two problems, twenty per cent

Paper 3 is the component Views parents have most often never heard of, and it carries a fifth of the Higher Level grade. It runs for one hour, contains two extended problem-solving questions, and is sat with a graphic display calculator in both routes. Unlike Papers 1 and 2 it does not sample across the syllabus in short questions. It takes one or two contexts and builds a long, scaffolded investigation through them, where part (f) depends on having got part (c) right and understood why.

That structure is what makes it hard for able students. A candidate used to twelve independent questions can afford to lose one. A candidate facing two long chains cannot afford to break early, and the commonest failure mode is not an inability to do the mathematics but a decision to stop. Students reach a part they cannot see through, spend six minutes staring at it, and arrive at the second question with twenty minutes left.

The good news is that this is the most trainable component in the whole course, precisely because the difficulty is structural rather than mathematical. A student who has worked through six or eight genuine Paper 3 questions under timing learns the moves: read the whole question before starting, accept a given result and continue if a part will not yield, watch for the moment the paper hands you a general case after two specific ones. None of that is content. All of it is worth marks.

It is also the component schools have the least time for. A Higher Level teacher with a syllabus to finish and an exploration cohort to supervise will prioritise Papers 1 and 2, which is a reasonable allocation of scarce time. It is the clearest single reason a Views family might buy mathematics tutoring in DP2 even when the school is strong and the grades are respectable.

05

The exploration, criterion by criterion, with the marks

The mathematical exploration is 20% of the grade, it is written during DP1, and it is the component where a Views student is most likely to lose marks they could easily have kept. It is marked out of twenty against five criteria lettered A to E, and almost no family has seen the mark allocation. Seeing it changes how students write.

Criterion E, the use of mathematics, carries six marks and is the one students assume is the whole task. It is not even a third of it. Criterion A on presentation and criterion B on mathematical communication carry four marks each, which together outweigh the mathematics. Criterion C on personal engagement and criterion D on reflection carry three marks each. That means seven of twenty marks are awarded for caring about the topic and for thinking critically about what the mathematics showed, and those are exactly the marks a capable student discards by choosing a topic they are indifferent to and then describing their method instead of evaluating it.

The failure patterns are consistent. A student picks a topic from a list of suggested explorations, so there is nothing personal to engage with. The mathematics is either below course level, which caps criterion E, or copied in at a level the student cannot explain, which caps criterion B. The reflection section is written in the last hour as a paragraph saying the exploration was interesting and could have used more data. And the presentation wanders, because no structure was planned before writing began.

What a tutor may do here is bounded and worth stating plainly. The criteria can be taught, because they are published. A research question can be narrowed in conversation. A method can be demonstrated on entirely different data so the technique transfers. A draft the student has written can be read and told which criterion is underserved and why. What a tutor must not do is write any part of it, rewrite a passage into their own prose, or supply the data or the conclusion. The school's supervisor runs the process and signs it off; a tutor who tries to take that over is making your child's position worse.

06

The calculator is half the subject, and nobody teaches it

A graphic display calculator is required equipment in IB mathematics, and in Applications and Interpretation it is assumed on every paper. Schools issue them, teach the basics in a lesson or two, and then move on. The result is a cohort of students who can find a numerical solution but cannot use the device to check an algebraic one, who do not know how to read a regression output properly, and who have never set up a graph window deliberately.

The marks lost to this are invisible on a report. A student who plots a function with the default window and concludes there is one root where there are three has made a calculator error that looks like a mathematics error. A student who computes a correct standard deviation but reports the population version where the sample version was wanted has made a menu error. A student who cannot store a value and recall it loses two minutes per question, which across a two-hour paper is a question and a half.

This is one of the places where an online session is plainly better than a tutor at a dining table. A calculator emulator on a shared screen lets a tutor show every keystroke, with the student following on their own device, and lets the student record the sequence for later. Across a table, both people are looking at a small screen upside down and one of them is guessing what the other pressed.

The practical upshot for a Views family is that a few sessions of deliberate calculator work early in DP1 is some of the cheapest grade protection available in this course. It is not glamorous, no school report will ever name it, and it is worth more than an extra month of calculus for most Applications and Interpretation students.

07

Ten minutes of questions that separate a mathematician from a specialist

You do not need to know IB mathematics to find out whether somebody else does. You need four or five questions with answers specific enough that a general mathematics teacher cannot bluff them. Ask these in the free first lesson, of us or of anybody else you are considering, and listen for whether the answer is precise or approximate.

The first is simply which route and level they teach most. A specialist answers in the syllabus's own words, naming Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation and the level, and usually volunteers which one they prefer and why. A generalist answers with IB maths, which tells you they have not had to distinguish them in practice.

The rest of the questions are in the table below, with the shape of a knowledgeable answer and the shape of an unconvincing one. None of them is a trick. They are the facts a person who has taught the course for a year knows without thinking, and the facts somebody who has read about it cannot produce under mild pressure. A tutor who says they will check and come back on the exploration mark allocation is being honest, which is better than a confident wrong number, but it also tells you where they are in their experience of the course.

One addition worth making to any such conversation: ask what they would want to see before the second session. The answer you want involves your child's own work, a marked paper or a draft. An answer that involves their own diagnostic test is not wrong, but it suggests the teaching will follow their material rather than your child's school.

What a mathematics specialist costs around Emirates Living, by the month

Hourly rates are the wrong unit for a Diploma decision. Mathematics support in this course is not a one-off purchase; it is a weekly commitment running anywhere from three months to two years, and the number a Views family actually needs to plan against is monthly. Reading the market that way changes which options look sensible.

Bestimate's 2026 Dubai estimates for one weekly hour put a budget arrangement at AED 240 to AED 600 a month, a mid-market one at AED 600 to AED 1,200, and specialist exam-year support at AED 1,000 to AED 2,000 or more. Advertised monthly packages in Dubai include AED 799 a month for eight online sessions, which works out near AED 100 an hour, and AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home sessions, which is eight teaching hours and eight separate journeys by somebody's car.

Convert that into the two realistic Diploma patterns and the planning becomes concrete. One weekly hour across a full DP1 year at the mid-market band is roughly AED 6,000 to AED 12,000 over nine months. A two-term intensive in DP2, at two hours a week in the specialist band, lands in a similar place while buying twice the weekly contact for half the duration. Which is better depends entirely on whether your child's problem is foundation erosion, which needs the long version, or technique, which responds to the short one.

Underneath those figures sit the hourly bands for reference: online university-student tutors from roughly AED 33 to AED 65 an hour at Tutopiya and EdFlik, qualified online subject tutors from AED 150 at Unitors with IB from AED 200, named specialists at AED 200 to AED 450 and above with TutorChase quoted at AED 270, in-home visits at AED 180 to AED 500 including travel, and premium examiner-led tutors quoted at AED 650 by BartyED. Every one of those is that provider's own published rate as read in October 2026, not ours. IB Gram publishes no fixed price list on these pages; your quote follows the free first lesson, because route, level and slot all change it.

Starting from The Views, and what we will not claim

Tell us four things: the school, the route and level, the component where marks are going, and the evenings that are genuinely free. If you do not know the route, the school knows and a timetable or a report will usually say. If you do not know where the marks are going, that is fine; it is the first thing the free lesson establishes, and it is more often technique than topic.

Bring a marked script. A past paper with an examiner's or teacher's marks on it is worth more than any description of the problem, because it shows whether the marks went to method, to interpretation, to foundation or to time. An exploration draft is equally useful if the exploration is the live issue. A tutor who reads that in the first half-hour and names the pattern has earned the booking; one who talks around it has not.

After that the arrangement is plain. Same tutor, same evening, written notes after each session, and a cadence that rises before mocks and the exploration deadline and falls afterwards. If the pairing is wrong, say so after the second lesson and we will change the tutor rather than defend the match. Mathematics tutoring in particular depends on a student being willing to show what they cannot do, and that only happens if they like the person.

The limits, said once and clearly. No tutor travels to a UAE address; home visiting is an India-only service. No examination date appears on this page, because the IB's site cannot be checked automatically and your school's IB coordinator is the only source worth trusting for your child's session. No grade is guaranteed. No part of the exploration is written for your child. And when no Analysis and Approaches Higher Level specialist is free in your slot, you are told the realistic date rather than offered a general mathematics tutor who will spend a term discovering the difference.

IB mathematics is not evenly distributed across New Dubai. These are the communities around The Views, described by what they contribute to the Diploma mathematics picture rather than by their amenities.

The Greens

Adjacent and effectively continuous with The Views. Regent International School sits inside it, which makes it the one school in the cluster a student can reach without a bus and the easiest cohort to schedule early sessions for.

The Meadows

Emirates International School Meadows runs the full IB continuum here, so it supplies a steady share of the Views Diploma mathematics cohort across both routes and both levels.

Emirates Hills

Dubai International Academy Emirates Hills and Dubai British School Emirates Hills are both significant Diploma providers, and between them account for much of the Analysis and Approaches Higher Level demand in this part of Dubai.

The Lakes

Villas on the far side of the golf course feeding the same schools. Driven rather than bussed, which pushes the usable session start past 17:00 and makes the weekend block more common here.

Al Sufouh

Dubai College and GEMS Wellington International School. Selective intakes mean strong mathematicians, and the enquiries from here are more often about Paper 3 technique than about content gaps.

Al Barsha

Kings' School Al Barsha, Nord Anglia International School Dubai and American School of Dubai. A mixed curriculum picture, which is why students transferring into the Diploma mid-course are a recurring request from this side.

Barsha Heights

Tuition centres across Sheikh Zayed Road run group mathematics classes. They work for shared Standard Level content and poorly for a Higher Level student with a specific weakness, which is the comparison Views parents are usually making.

Dubai Internet City

The nearest metro station, and the reason a DP2 student can occasionally get themselves home from a school on the Marina side in time for an early evening session.

Jumeirah Lake Towers

One interchange along and a reminder of why distance is a poor filter: a tutor based here loses twenty to forty minutes crossing Interchange 5 at 18:00, and that time is priced into any in-home rate.

Schools are named here purely as the educational setting around The Views. IB Gram is an independent tutor-matching platform and has no affiliation, partnership, endorsement or commercial relationship with any school, school group, examination board or education regulator mentioned on this page.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Name the route, the level and the component

Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation, Higher or Standard, and which part is going wrong: a paper, the exploration, or the whole thing. The school's timetable or a report will carry the route if you are unsure.

  2. 02

Send a marked script or an exploration draft

Real marked work beats any description. It distinguishes method-mark forfeiture from foundation erosion from a timing problem, and those three have completely different remedies and completely different costs.

  3. 03

    Matched on route, not proximity

A tutor is proposed because that course is what they teach, at that level, including Paper 3 where it applies. If the specialist is two or three days out, you get the date rather than a general mathematics tutor tonight.

  4. 04

Free first lesson, used as a diagnosis

One per family, about thirty minutes, no charge, no card details. It should end with the pattern named and the first four sessions outlined, including whether calculator technique is part of the problem.

  5. 05

Review against the exploration and mock calendar

The plan is checked against your school's dates, not a generic schedule: the exploration interim deadline in DP1, mocks in DP2, and the final two terms where Paper 3 work belongs.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Route and level, not mathematics in general

Four distinct courses sit behind the phrase IB maths. A tutor is matched to the one your child is sitting, which is why the match is made on syllabus rather than on who happens to live near Emirates Golf Club.

Paper 3 is treated as its own component

One hour, two extended problems, 20% of the Higher Level grade, and the least-practised part of the course. It is trainable because the difficulty is structural, and it is scheduled deliberately rather than hoped for.

Exploration criteria taught with the marks shown

Five criteria, twenty marks, and seven of them awarded outside the mathematics itself. Students who see the allocation write differently, and feedback stays on their own drafts rather than becoming our writing.

Calculator technique is taught, not assumed

An emulator on a shared screen shows every keystroke, which is the one teaching task an online session does strictly better than a tutor across a table. It is also some of the cheapest grade protection in the course.

Monthly figures, attributed, and no price list of ours

Diploma mathematics is a monthly commitment, so the market is presented monthly with the source that published each band in October 2026. Your own quote follows a free lesson.

Independent, and specific about the limits

No IB, KHDA or Ministry of Education approval is held or claimed, no examination dates are published here, and coverage gaps are disclosed before you book rather than filled with a substitute.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in The Views: your questions answered

Is there really nobody near The Views who teaches IB maths properly?+

There are good mathematics teachers in Emirates Living. What is scarce within a short drive is somebody whose main subject is a specific IB route at a specific level, free in the one evening slot your family has. IB mathematics is two courses at two levels, which is four separate teaching jobs, and only a fraction of Dubai's private-school students take any of them. Dropping the distance requirement and keeping the route and level requirement is what makes a genuine specialist reachable at all, and it is why lessons run online.

How do I find out whether my child is on AA or AI?+

Ask the school, or look at a timetable or report, which will name the course in full as Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches or Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation, with Higher or Standard Level. The distinction is not cosmetic. Analysis and Approaches is algebraic and proof-based with a non-calculator Paper 1 at both levels; Applications and Interpretation is modelling and statistics with a calculator assumed on every paper. A tutor who is not told which one will teach the wrong preparation competently.

Which IB maths route do UAE universities expect?+

It depends on the programme rather than the country. Engineering, mathematics, physics and the more quantitative economics degrees commonly expect Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level, and some departments say so explicitly. Business, geography, psychology, design and most life-science routes accept either. Requirements differ between institutions and are revised, so check the specific programme's published entry requirements rather than relying on a tutoring page. A strong Applications and Interpretation grade is generally worth more than a weak Analysis and Approaches one.

What is Paper 3 and why has nobody mentioned it?+

It is the third examination at Higher Level only: one hour, two extended problem-solving questions, worth 20% of the grade, sat with a calculator in both routes. It is rarely mentioned because schools with a syllabus to finish and explorations to supervise prioritise Papers 1 and 2, which is a defensible use of limited time. It is also the most trainable component in the course, because students fail it by stopping when stuck rather than by not knowing the mathematics. Six to eight practised papers change that.

How is the mathematical exploration actually marked?+

Out of twenty marks against five criteria. Criterion A for presentation and criterion B for mathematical communication carry four marks each. Criterion C for personal engagement and criterion D for reflection carry three each. Criterion E for use of mathematics carries six. So seven of the twenty marks are awarded for genuine interest in the topic and for critical reflection on the result, which is exactly where able students throw marks away by picking a topic from a suggestion list and describing their method instead of evaluating it.

Can a tutor help with the exploration without breaking IB rules?+

Yes, inside a clear boundary. A tutor can teach the published criteria, help narrow a research question from unanswerable to workable, demonstrate a technique on completely different data, and read a draft the student has written and say which criterion is underserved. A tutor must not write or rewrite any part of it, or supply the data or the conclusion. Your school's supervisor owns the process and the sign-off. The test a school applies is whether the work is recognisably your child's, in their own voice.

My child is strong on Paper 2 and weak on Paper 1. What is going on?+

Almost certainly calculator dependence, and it is a specific and fixable diagnosis rather than a general weakness. Analysis and Approaches Paper 1 is sat without a calculator at both levels and is worth 40% of the grade at Standard Level and 30% at Higher. A student who has leaned on technology since Year 9 can manipulate expressions on a screen and not on paper. The remedy is unglamorous: timed non-calculator algebra, marked against a real mark scheme, usually across six to eight sessions.

My child switched from MYP maths into DP1 and is drowning. Is that normal?+

It is one of the commonest enquiries from this community. Middle Years Programme mathematics is assessed against criteria and rewards investigation and communication; Diploma papers reward speed, algebraic fluency and precise notation under timing. A student can be genuinely able and still arrive without the drilled algebra the first calculus unit assumes. The work needed is mostly technique rather than content, and it is best done in the first term of DP1 rather than discovered in the second, when calculus is already hiding the algebra.

Is an Extended IGCSE grade 7 enough preparation for AA Higher Level?+

Often not, and this is where Views families get caught. A Cambridge 0580 or Pearson 4MA1 Extended grade 7 shows competence across an IGCSE syllabus, but Analysis and Approaches Higher Level assumes fluency rather than competence, and it moves into proof and formal calculus quickly. The shortfall surfaces in the first proof and calculus unit of DP1, not in September. Bridging work over the summer between Year 11 and DP1 is the single most effective intervention available, and it is cheaper than repairing the gap in February.

How much should we budget monthly for IB maths support in Dubai?+

Bestimate's 2026 Dubai estimates for one weekly hour run AED 240 to AED 600 a month at the budget end, AED 600 to AED 1,200 mid-market, and AED 1,000 to AED 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. Advertised packages include AED 799 a month for eight online sessions. Those are other providers' published figures as read in October 2026, not ours. We publish no fixed price list, because a Higher Level Paper 3 block and a Standard Level weekly hour are not the same product.

Does the graphic display calculator need teaching separately?+

Yes, and almost nobody does it. Schools issue the device, cover the basics in a lesson or two, and move on. Students then lose marks that look like mathematics errors but are menu errors: a default graph window that hides two roots, a population standard deviation reported where the sample version was wanted, no stored values so two minutes go per question. A few deliberate sessions with an emulator on a shared screen, where every keystroke is visible, is some of the cheapest grade protection in this course.

Can one tutor cover both maths and physics for the same student?+

Sometimes, and it is worth asking rather than assuming. A specialist in Analysis and Approaches Higher Level frequently teaches Physics too, and where a student's physics problem is actually a mathematics problem, which is common for a Higher Level physics student on Applications and Interpretation Standard Level, one tutor is better than two. Where both subjects have independent problems, two specialists in two shorter slots usually outperforms one person covering both, because the depth matters more than the convenience.

We are in DP2 with four months left. Is maths tutoring still worth it?+

It depends on the diagnosis, and the honest answer differs by component. Foundation erosion cannot be repaired in four months, and anybody promising otherwise is selling. Technique can: method-mark discipline, timing, the interpretation sentence, and Paper 3 format work are all learnable in six to ten sessions because the obstacle is habit rather than knowledge. The exploration is already submitted, so it is off the table. Bring the mock script and the plan will follow what it shows rather than a generic revision schedule.

Why will this page not tell me when the IB maths exams are?+

Because we could not confirm the dates at source. The IB's own website returns an error to automated checking, so no session or results date in this project has been verified, and secondary sites publish windows that occasionally disagree. UAE schools sit the May session, and that much is safe. For the dates your child is actually working to, including registration deadlines and the school's internal exploration checkpoints, the IB coordinator at the school is the only authority worth relying on.

What if no AA Higher Level specialist is free in our slot?+

You get told, with a realistic date. Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level in the 17:00 to 18:00 window is one of the tightest combinations we handle, because every Emirates Living family wants the same hour. The alternative to saying so is placing a general mathematics tutor in a Higher Level slot, which costs a term before anyone admits the mismatch. Usually the fix is an adjacent evening or a weekend block. Occasionally it is a wait of a week, and the decision is yours.

Match on the route, not on the drive

The search that brought you here assumed proximity was the constraint. It is not; the route and the level are. Tell us whether your child is on Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation, at Higher or Standard Level, and which component is leaking marks. Send a marked script or an exploration draft if you have one. We will propose a tutor who teaches that course as their main subject, arrange a free first lesson of about thirty minutes with no card details taken, and say plainly if the specialist you need is a few days out rather than filling the slot with a general mathematician.
