IB MYP Tutor in The Views

Parents searching for an IB MYP tutor in The Views are usually asking one question: does anyone within driving distance actually know this programme? The honest answer is that the Middle Years Programme has no textbook, no past-paper bank and no syllabus code, so proximity tells you almost nothing about competence. IB Gram matches students in The Views, Fairways and The Links with MYP-trained subject teachers and teaches one-to-one over live video, on Gulf Standard Time, starting with a free trial lesson.

  • MYP-trained teachers who mark against criteria A to D, not chapters
  • Lessons delivered live online on Gulf Standard Time, never by recording
  • Tutors hold the MoHRE private tuition work permit under Resolution 710 of 2023
  • Free trial lesson first; one session, no commitment taken before it

IB & IGCSE in The Views

What a search for an IB MYP tutor in The Views is really asking

The search phrase carries a hidden assumption: that somewhere between Fairways and The Links there is a teacher who knows the Middle Years Programme, and the job is to find them. The assumption is reasonable for IGCSE, where a specification code pins down exactly what a tutor needs to know. It breaks down for the MYP. There is no MYP syllabus document a parent can download, no set textbook, no archive of released papers, and no single examination at the end of most years. What exists instead is a framework, and a framework is a much harder thing to shop for.

That framework is why the local search returns so little. A maths graduate living two buildings away can teach quadratics. Very few of them can tell you what criterion B, investigating patterns, asks a MYP 4 student to produce, or why a student who solved every question correctly still landed on a 4. In this programme the mark is not awarded for the answer. It is awarded for the process the answer demonstrates, judged against published strands of descriptors, out of eight, four separate times in every subject.

So the honest reply to the question behind the search is that distance is the wrong filter. The Views sits inside Emirates Living, a few minutes from Sheikh Zayed Road and ten from Al Barsha, and the schools families here use for the MYP are spread from The Meadows to Emirates Hills to Umm Suqeim. A tutor who lives in Travo may know nothing about the programme. A teacher who knows the programme properly may live anywhere at all, and in practice usually does.

IB Gram resolves that by teaching one-to-one over live video rather than by driving anyone anywhere. IB Gram does not run home visits in Dubai; that service exists only in India. For a MYP family the trade is a good one. Instead of whoever happens to be free in Emirates Living on a Tuesday evening, your child works with a teacher who has written MYP unit plans, marked criterion grids and taken students through the MYP 5 exit point. A shared screen carries the grid, the draft and the task sheet side by side.

This page sets out what that teacher has to know, how four marks turn into the grade on the report, where the MYP year puts the pressure, what the Dubai market charges for this kind of help in dirhams, and what a tutor may and may not touch on a Personal Project. If you read nothing else, read the eight questions further down. They are the ones that separate a subject graduate from somebody who has actually taught this programme in a classroom.

At a glance

  • The MYP is a framework, not a syllabus: no set text, no released papers, no code
  • Every subject group is marked against four criteria, each one out of eight
  • Four criterion levels become a single grade from 1 to 7 by a published conversion
  • MYP 5 can close with optional on-screen eAssessment, which reshapes the final year
  • Lessons run live online on Gulf Standard Time; home visits are an India-only service
  • The Personal Project is supervised inside school, and a tutor's role in it is limited
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Families in The Views usually arrive at the MYP from one of two directions: a PYP classroom in the same school, or a British Year 7 somewhere else. Where a student goes afterwards matters as much as where they are now, so the programmes below are set out as a route, with what each one demands of a student living in Emirates Living.

PYPAges 3-12 · FS1 to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

The PYP is inquiry-led and carries no external examination. Students work through transdisciplinary themes and finish with the PYP Exhibition in the final year. Reports describe learner-profile attributes and approaches to learning rather than percentages, which is why parents moving in from a British or Indian school often find the first one hard to read. Support at this stage is about reading fluency, number sense and the habit of recording a method, because MYP 1 assumes all three.

Dubai PYP places sit mostly inside continuum schools, so a family in The Views choosing one is usually also choosing the MYP and the Diploma that follow. KHDA licenses the curriculum, and Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies run alongside it from the start, in separate classes for Arab and non-Arab students.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP 1 to MYP 5, roughly Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Five years, eight subject groups, and assessment that is criterion-referenced from the first week. Each group publishes four criteria, A to D, each marked out of eight against strands the teacher clarifies for every task. There are no cumulative percentages and no end-of-year paper in MYP 1 to 4. The Personal Project runs in MYP 5 in most schools, and the programme can close with optional on-screen eAssessment where the school licenses it.

Students living in The Views travel to MYP schools in The Meadows, Emirates Hills, Al Barsha and Umm Suqeim, so the same programme reaches them on four different unit calendars. A tutor has to work from your child's own task sheet rather than a generic scheme, because the unit one school runs in November is not the unit another runs down the same road.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Six subjects across six groups, three of them at Higher Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity, Service. Assessment returns to external examinations with internal components, and the scale moves from criterion totals to subject grades out of seven plus up to three core points. The jump from MYP 4 into DP1 is more about examination technique and timed writing than about missing content.

Most Dubai MYP students stay in the continuum for the Diploma, but a real minority leave at MYP 5 for IGCSE or A Level at a British school in Al Barsha or Emirates Hills. Both routes are open from The Views, and the choice is far better made in MYP 4 than in the spring of MYP 5 when option blocks have closed.

CPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Career-related Programme

A smaller IB route pairing Diploma courses with a career-related study and a core of personal and professional skills, a reflective project, service learning and language development. Fewer Dubai schools license it than the Diploma. It suits a student who wants IB rigour in two or three subjects alongside an applied qualification rather than six academic subjects and a full core.

For a household in The Views the CP matters mainly as a fallback worth knowing about before MYP 5 subject choices close. Check the licensed programme list on the school's own KHDA page rather than a prospectus, because programme licences change between academic years and a brochure can be a year behind.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

MYP assessment is organised by subject group rather than by named course, and the four criteria differ in every group. The list below gives each group with the criteria it is actually marked against and the place marks usually go missing. Name the group and the MYP year when you enquire; a teacher who is right for MYP 2 Sciences is not automatically right for MYP 5.

Mathematics

MYP 1-5 · Standard and Extended

Marked on knowing and understanding, investigating patterns, communicating, and applying mathematics in real-life contexts. Criterion B is where most marks go: students find the pattern and then never state a general rule, justify it or test it. The Extended route in MYP 4 and 5 adds content depth Standard does not, and the choice feeds directly into Diploma Analysis and Approaches entry.

Sciences

MYP 1-5 · Biology, Chemistry, Physics or integrated

Four criteria: knowing and understanding, inquiring and designing, processing and evaluating, and reflecting on the impacts of science. Criterion C punishes a student who tabulates data then writes one sentence of conclusion. Criterion D is the one British-curriculum transfers have never met, because it asks for evaluated impacts with sources rather than a paragraph of opinion.

Language and Literature

MYP 1-5 · English and other school languages

Analysing, organising, producing text, and using language. Written tasks are judged on how a student handles one specific text, so revision cannot be generic. The commonest fault is retelling the plot where the criterion asks for analysis of the writer's choices, and that fault survives all the way into Diploma Paper 1 if nobody names it early.

Language Acquisition

MYP 1-5 · Phases 1-6

Marked on comprehending spoken and visual text, comprehending written and visual text, communicating, and using language. Phases matter more than year groups: a student can sit in MYP 4 working in phase 2. Arabic as an additional language is the common case in Dubai, and the phase printed on the report is what a tutor needs before planning anything at all.

Individuals and Societies

MYP 1-5 · History, Geography and Economics strands

Knowing and understanding, investigating, communicating, and thinking critically. Students lose marks on investigating by writing a question too broad to answer inside the task length, then on communicating by citing sources in a format the task sheet did not ask for. Source evaluation here transfers straight into Diploma History paper work.

Design

MYP 1-5 · Digital and product design

Inquiring and analysing, developing ideas, creating the solution, and evaluating. The design cycle is assessed as a cycle, so a working product with no documented specification scores badly. This is the group where strong students are most often surprised by a 4, because the folder rather than the artefact carries the majority of the available marks.

Arts

MYP 1-5 · Visual arts, music and drama

Investigating, developing, creating or performing, and evaluating. Process journals are assessed, which means a student who produced good work over two late nights has nothing to show for criterion B. Support here is largely about documenting intent and artistic influence in the journal while the work is being made rather than afterwards.

Physical and Health Education

MYP 1-5

Knowing and understanding, planning for performance, applying and performing, and reflecting on and improving performance. The written components surprise families who assume the group is practical only. Planning and reflection are produced in writing and marked against strands, so a capable athlete can still sit on a 3 for criterion A all year.

Interdisciplinary units and the Personal Project

MYP 1-5 · Personal Project in MYP 5

Interdisciplinary units are reported against their own criteria, and schools often assess them in the term parents are least expecting. The Personal Project is supervised inside school; a tutor may discuss process, planning and the structure of the report, and may never produce any part of the work itself.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats cover almost every MYP request from The Views, and a fourth exists for households with two children in different years. All of them run one-to-one over live video, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time, and all of them start from your child's own task sheet and criterion grid rather than a generic scheme of work.

Weekly criterion clinic

One session a week, built around whichever criterion the next assessed task carries. The tutor works from the task-specific clarification the school issued, so the hour targets the strand being marked rather than the topic in general. Most families in The Views start here and review after a term against the school's own report.

  • Task sheet and criterion grid read before the lesson starts
  • One named criterion per session, agreed in advance
  • Written feedback against the strands after every session
  • Progress reviewed against the school's report cycle, not ours

Report-cycle diagnostic block

A short block of three or four sessions after a report lands, to work out why a criterion mark moved. This is diagnostic rather than remedial: the output is a plan naming the strand that is costing marks and the evidence the student needs to produce in the next assessed task.

  • Report and samples of marked work reviewed first
  • Three or four sessions, then a written plan
  • Useful immediately before MYP 4 subject choices close
  • No commitment to weekly lessons afterwards

MYP 5 exit support

For the final MYP year: Personal Project process support inside the honesty rules, interdisciplinary unit preparation, and bridging work towards either Diploma courses or an IGCSE entry the following September. Where a school runs optional eAssessment, the block includes on-screen task practice under timed conditions.

  • Personal Project process and report structure only
  • Bridging into DP1 or into IGCSE at sixteen
  • On-screen task practice where eAssessment applies
  • Scheduled around the school's internal deadlines

Sibling scheduling for one household

Two children in different MYP years rarely share a useful hour. Consecutive one-to-one slots on the same evening keep it to one trip to the study room while keeping the teaching specific, and a single tutor can hold both subject groups where those groups genuinely overlap.

  • Consecutive slots rather than a shared lesson
  • Separate criterion plans per child
  • One account, two session records
  • Slot held for the term once agreed

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in The Views

01

Is there anyone in The Views who actually teaches the MYP?

Start with the literal question. There is no register of MYP tutors in Emirates Living, and if there were, living in Fairways would not be evidence of anything. The programme is taught in Dubai by schools holding an IB licence for it, and the teachers who deliver it are employed by those schools. Under the code of conduct attached to the MoHRE private tuition work permit, and under ADEK's professional-ethics rules for Abu Dhabi school staff, a teacher is barred from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school. The obvious candidate is also the one you cannot use.

What is left is a smaller pool than a page of search results suggests: teachers who have delivered MYP units somewhere, moderators who have standardised them, and subject graduates who have learned the framework properly. Almost none of them live within walking distance of The Links, and the few who do will already be booked by families in the same building. Hiring by postcode in this situation produces a tutor who can explain the topic and cannot explain the mark, which is the specific failure that wastes a term.

The honest version of the answer is this. IB Gram does not place a tutor in your building, and does not run home visits anywhere in Dubai; that service exists only in India. What it does is match a student in The Views with an MYP-trained teacher wherever that teacher happens to be, then run the lesson live over video on Gulf Standard Time with the criterion grid and the student's own draft open on a shared screen. For a programme assessed on documented process rather than on a final answer, a shared screen is not a compromise. It is the natural place for that work to happen.

02

Why a framework is harder to shop for than a syllabus

An IGCSE parent has a short, decisive question available: which specification? Cambridge 0580 and Pearson 4MA1 are different documents with different papers, and a tutor either knows the one your child sits or does not. The answer is checkable in a minute from an entry slip. MYP parents have no equivalent. The IB publishes subject-group guides to schools, and each school writes its own units from them, so two MYP 3 Sciences classes in Dubai can spend the same term on entirely different content while being assessed against the same four criteria.

That shifts what a tutor has to supply. There is no bank of released papers to work through, because in MYP 1 to 4 there are no papers. There is no mark scheme in the IGCSE sense, because the descriptors stay generic until the teacher writes the task-specific clarification. The useful material for a session is therefore the material your child's school produced: the unit statement of inquiry, the task sheet, the clarification, and the last marked grid. A tutor who asks for those four things in the first message is telling you something worth knowing.

It also changes what good looks like. Progress in the MYP is a criterion mark moving, and a criterion mark moves when a student produces different evidence, not when they know more facts. A session that ends with the topic revised has usually failed. A session that ends with the student understanding what criterion C wanted, and having written one paragraph that supplies it, has usually worked. The table sets out what disappears when the syllabus does, and what has to take its place.

Eight questions that separate an MYP teacher from a subject graduate

  • Which four criteria does this subject group use, and what does each ask for?
  • What is a task-specific clarification, and who writes it?
  • How does this school convert four criterion levels into a grade from 1 to 7?
  • What is a statement of inquiry, and how does it change the way a task is marked?
  • Where does criterion D sit in this group, and what evidence satisfies it?
  • What are the approaches-to-learning comments on the report, and are they graded?
  • What may a Personal Project supervisor do, and what may nobody do?
  • Does this school run MYP 5 eAssessment, and how does that change the final year?

Before the first lesson, ask these. A teacher who has run the programme answers all eight in a sentence each. Somebody who has read a summary answers three and hedges on the rest. None of them is a trick question; they are the ordinary working vocabulary of MYP assessment, and a tutor without that vocabulary will spend your money teaching content your child's school has already covered twice.

The questions also protect you from the opposite failure, which is a tutor who knows the framework well and the subject thinly. A Language Acquisition phase 4 student needs somebody who can hear a tense error in spoken Arabic, not only somebody who can quote criterion C. Put the framework questions and one hard subject question in the same message, then read which half of the reply is specific and which half is general.

If you want one question rather than eight, use this: what would you need from us before the first session? The answer you want names the task sheet, the task-specific clarification, the last marked grid and the most recent report. The answer that should worry you is just the topic. In a criterion-referenced programme the topic is the least informative thing a parent can send, and asking for nothing else is a reliable signal.

Read the answers for working detail rather than confidence. A teacher who has stood in front of an MYP class will tell you that a clarification is written by the subject teacher for each task, that approaches-to-learning comments are reported but not graded, and that a supervisor on a Personal Project may question and may not produce. Those answers are short because they are known. Somebody reciting a summary tends to give a longer reply with fewer nouns in it, and you can hear the difference in two minutes on a phone call.

04

Criterion A to D, by subject group, with the strands named

The four criteria are not interchangeable labels. Each subject group has its own set, and the distance between two of them is where most of the confusion on a Dubai MYP report comes from. A parent who learns that criterion B means investigating patterns in Mathematics will reasonably assume it means something similar in Sciences, where it is inquiring and designing, or in Design, where it is developing ideas. Those are three different tasks demanding three different kinds of evidence from a student.

Each criterion is marked out of eight, in bands, against strands set out in the subject-group guide the school holds. The teacher then writes a task-specific clarification turning those generic strands into the wording of the actual task, and that clarification is the single most useful document a tutor can read before a session. It is usually printed on the task sheet. It is almost never forwarded to a tutor unless somebody thinks to ask for it, and most people do not.

The table below names the four criteria for the groups most often requested by families in The Views. Use it to read your child's report properly: a 6, 6, 3, 5 line is not a student who is doing fine in some bits. It is a student with one identifiable strand of evidence missing, and that is a fixable problem inside a handful of sessions rather than a term of general revision that touches everything and changes nothing.

How four marks out of eight become one grade out of seven

This is the mechanism that surprises every family new to the programme, and it is worth understanding properly because it explains almost every confusing report. Each criterion is marked out of eight, so a subject carries a total out of thirty-two across its four criteria. The school does not average those into a percentage. It takes the criterion levels, applies the conversion published in the IB's own programme documentation, and reports a single grade from 1 to 7 for the subject.

Three consequences follow. A student can be strong in three criteria and still land on a 4, because the total is what converts. A criterion assessed once in a term carries the same structural weight as one assessed four times, so the single task that happened to touch criterion D matters far more than it looked at the time. And a grade can fall between reports without any ability being lost, simply because that term's tasks hit the strands your child is weakest on.

What a parent can do with that is specific. Ask the school which tasks assessed which criteria this term, and ask whether a best-fit or a most-recent judgement was used where a criterion was assessed more than once; schools publish that in their assessment policy and the answers differ between them. Then target the weakest criterion rather than the subject as a whole. The steps below set out where the mark actually travels, and where parents commonly misread it.

What MYP support costs around Emirates Living, in dirhams

Take the monthly number first, because that is the one a household actually budgets. One sixty-minute session a week is four or five sessions a month depending on where the half-terms fall. Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 rate table puts a weekly one-hour arrangement at roughly AED 240 to 600 a month at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle, and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more where an exam-year specialist is involved. Packages advertised in this market sit alongside those bands: around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions, and AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month for four two-hour visits in the home.

Working back to an hourly figure, published rates in Dubai spread wider than most parents expect. EdFlik lists online tutoring from AED 45 to 65 an hour and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52, both at the university-student end of the market. Unitors publishes IGCSE tuition from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. TutorChase quotes AED 270. Bestimate's specialist band runs AED 200 to 450 and above, and BartyED's named-examiner rate is AED 650. In-home one-to-one with travel included is quoted at AED 180 to 350 by Bestimate and as high as AED 500 by independent providers.

The gap between the online figure and the in-home figure is the thing worth examining, because it is not a quality premium. It pays for a car, for the forty minutes between Al Barsha and Emirates Living at four o'clock, and for the fact that a travelling tutor can only serve families inside that radius. A household in The Views paying it is funding travel first and then choosing from whoever the travel radius contains. Spend the same money without the travel and the choice widens to anyone who can teach MYP Sciences on a Tuesday evening. Every figure here is the Dubai market as published by the provider named, on the date its page carried that rate; IB Gram publishes no rate card on this page, and the trial lesson is free so the comparison can be made on teaching rather than on a brochure.

The MYP year as a Dubai three-term school actually runs it

Dubai private schools on the September start run three terms, with the long break across July and August, a winter break around the turn of the year, and a spring break in March or April. KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there would be no increase in private school fees in the emirate for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion. That stability is useful background for a tutoring decision, but the calendar matters more than the fees, because MYP assessment is spread across the year rather than concentrated at the end of it.

The practical consequence is that the useful moments to intervene are fixed by the school rather than by an examination board. The first is the week after an interim report, when a criterion mark has moved and nobody yet knows why. The second is three or four weeks before a summative task, which is when a task-specific clarification exists and there is still time to produce evidence against it. The third is the end of MYP 4, when subject choices for MYP 5 and the Diploma begin to close. A short block timed to any of those three does more than a year of weekly hours timed to none of them.

Ramadan reshapes the week, and in Dubai it shortens school hours too. Families in The Views routinely move a 17:00 slot to after Iftar, and a lesson delivered online absorbs that without renegotiating anybody's drive. The same applies across the long summer, when much of Emirates Living is abroad: a student in London or Mumbai in July keeps the same teacher and the same slot, time-converted, which is the quiet operational argument for video over a car in a city this mobile.

Who may legally tutor your child in Dubai, and how you check

Private tutoring in the UAE is permitted and regulated. The route is a private tuition work permit from the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. It is granted free of charge for two years, and the MoHRE service page titled Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time, applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website or e-services system.

Eligibility is wider than parents assume. Teachers registered in government or private schools qualify, as do employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, university students, and school students aged 15 to 18. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws; no schedule of amounts has been published, so any specific figure circulating online should be treated with suspicion. A tutoring operation with premises and staff is a different legal animal and needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute instead.

What this gives a parent is a question with a verifiable answer. Ask whether the person teaching your child holds the MoHRE private tuition work permit and when it expires, then ask separately whether they are currently employed by the school your child attends, because the permit's code of conduct bars serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school and ADEK's professional-ethics rules say the same for Abu Dhabi staff. Neither question is rude. Both are the sort of thing somebody who has done the paperwork answers in one line.

The Personal Project, academic honesty, and what a tutor may not touch

The Personal Project is the MYP's exit piece, supervised inside the school by a named supervisor, and it is the component where outside help most often goes wrong. The rule is simple to state and easy to breach by accident. The product, the process journal and the report must be the student's own work. A tutor may discuss how to choose a goal, how to keep a journal that will satisfy the criteria, how a report is structured, and how to read the assessment criteria. A tutor may never write the report, draft sections of it, or supply the content of the product.

The same boundary applies in miniature to every assessed MYP task. Reviewing a student's own draft against a criterion and saying which strand is unmet is teaching. Rewriting the paragraph is not. The distinction matters more in this market than in most, because the search results for queries like this one contain operations selling completed assessed work outright at prices in the thousands of dirhams. Under IB academic-honesty rules that produces a malpractice finding against the student, not against the seller.

Two practical habits keep a family on the right side of it. Keep every draft, dated, so the development of the work is visible if anyone ever asks. And take the tutor's feedback in writing as comments on strands rather than as edits to the text, because comments are evidence of teaching and tracked changes inside a submitted file are evidence of something else entirely. Subject guides, past papers and mark schemes are published by the IB and the awarding bodies on their own sites; a tutor may point you to them and should never be supplying copies.

Where we tutor

The Views and the communities around it

The Views is a cluster of low-rise buildings between the Emirates Golf Club and The Greens, bounded by Sheikh Zayed Road on one side and Al Thanya Street on the other. Session timing varies by building less than parents expect and by school a great deal. The notes below are about scheduling and schools rather than scenery.

Fairways

Fairways North, East and West sit closest to the golf club and to the Al Asayel Street exit. Families here are typically on an Emirates International School Meadows or Dubai International Academy bus run, with children home between 15:30 and 16:00.

Travo and Mosela

Travo A and B and Mosela face the internal podium, which makes a quiet study room easy to arrange. Bus runs to Al Barsha schools return later, so a 17:30 start is more realistic here than a 16:30 one.

Turia and Tanaro

Turia A and B and Tanaro back onto the Al Thanya Street side, nearest The Greens retail. Siblings in different schools are common in these buildings, which is why staggered one-to-one slots work better than one shared session.

The Links and Golf Towers

Links East, West and Terrace plus the Golf Towers hold the larger apartments and the longest-standing residents. Many students here have been in the same continuum school since the PYP, so their MYP report history is long and genuinely diagnostic.

Panorama at The Views

The Panorama buildings sit on the Emirates Living edge nearest Interchange 5. Parents commuting to Dubai Media City or Internet City often take an 18:00 or 19:00 slot so they can hear the first ten minutes of a lesson.

The Greens

Immediately adjacent, sharing the same schools and the same bus routes. Families moving between The Views and The Greens keep the same tutor and the same slot, because nothing about the arrangement depends on which building they are in.

The Meadows, The Springs and The Lakes

The villa communities across Al Thanya Street, and the location of Emirates International School Meadows. Several MYP students living in The Views attend that school, which means their unit calendar is the Meadows one rather than an Al Barsha one.

Emirates Hills and Al Barsha

Where most of the remaining MYP options sit, including Dubai International Academy Emirates Hills and the Al Barsha continuum schools. The drive is short at eight in the morning and slow at four in the afternoon, which is the whole argument for an online slot.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in The Views

Emirates Living and Emirates Hills

The schools families in The Views use most. Two of these run the full IB continuum including the MYP; the others are British-curriculum and take students to IGCSE at sixteen. Confirm the licensed programmes on each school's own KHDA listing before choosing, because licences change between academic years.

  • Emirates International School - Meadows
  • Dubai International Academy - Emirates Hills
  • Dubai British School Emirates Hills
  • GEMS Wellington International School
  • Emirates International School - Jumeirah

Al Barsha, Umm Suqeim and Al Sufouh

Twenty minutes away in the morning and considerably longer at four o'clock, which is why MYP students travelling from The Views to these schools usually take a later online slot. Several of them run PYP, MYP and the Diploma on one site, so the whole continuum is in one place.

  • GEMS World Academy - Dubai
  • Raffles World Academy
  • Dubai American Academy
  • Nord Anglia International School Dubai
  • Kings' School Al Barsha
  • Safa Community School

Named schools are listed as local context for families in The Views. IB Gram has no affiliation with, and no endorsement from, any school named on this page.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the task sheet, not the topic

Tell us the subject group, the MYP year and the school, and attach the most recent marked criterion grid and task-specific clarification if you have them. Those four things decide which teacher is the right match. A topic name on its own usually produces a tutor who revises content your child already knows well.

  2. 02

A free trial lesson, with the condition stated

One sixty-minute lesson at no charge, booked before any payment and with no card details taken beforehand. It is a working lesson rather than a sales call: the tutor reads the grid, teaches against one criterion, and sends written feedback afterwards so you can judge the teaching rather than the pitch.

  3. 03

Name the criterion before the block starts

Agree in writing which criterion the next few sessions target and what evidence the student will produce. In a criterion-referenced programme a goal like improve in Sciences cannot be assessed by anyone. A goal like produce an evaluated conclusion that meets criterion C can be, inside a fortnight.

  4. 04

Lessons run live online, on your clock

Sessions are scheduled in Gulf Standard Time and run over live video with screen sharing, so the grid, the draft and the task sheet are visible to both sides. A slot held for the term can move for Ramadan or travel without losing the teacher, because nothing in the arrangement depends on a drive.

  5. 05

Review against the school's report, not ours

The measure of whether this worked is the criterion mark on the next school report and the teacher's comment beside it. At that point we continue, change tutor, or stop. If no specialist is free for the subject group and the slot you need, we say so rather than sending somebody approximate.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Matched on the framework, not the postcode

The pool of teachers who can read and move an MYP criterion grid is small and scattered. Searching Emirates Living for one narrows it to almost nothing. Matching across the whole pool and teaching over video widens it to everyone who can actually do that work on the evening your child is free.

The task-specific clarification is read first

Every session starts from the document the school issued for the task being assessed, because that is where generic strands become the actual requirement. A tutor working from a general scheme of work is guessing at what the marker wants, and in this programme the marker is your child's own subject teacher.

Honest about what the Personal Project allows

Supervision of the Personal Project belongs to the school. We teach process, journal discipline and report structure, and produce no part of the work. That boundary is stated here rather than buried, because the alternative sold elsewhere in this market ends as an academic-honesty finding against your child.

Market rates published, with their sources

The dirham figures on this page are attributed to the provider that published them, so each one can be checked before you decide anything. Three of the pages ranking for queries like this quote no price in any currency at all, and two quote only US dollars.

A trial lesson before any commitment

The first lesson is free and the condition is stated plainly: one session, before payment, with written feedback afterwards. If the match is wrong we change the tutor. If no suitable teacher is available for your subject group and slot, we tell you that instead of filling the hour anyway.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in The Views: your questions answered

Is there an IB MYP tutor in The Views, or does the lesson happen online?+

The lesson happens online. IB Gram does not send anyone to a residential address in Dubai; home visits are a service offered only in India. Lessons run one-to-one over live video, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time, with screen sharing so the criterion grid, the task sheet and your child's draft are visible to both sides at once. For the MYP that is an advantage rather than a concession, because the pool of teachers who can mark a criterion grid properly is small and scattered across time zones. Restricting the search to Emirates Living narrows it to almost nobody.

Why can't I just hire a maths graduate who lives in Fairways?+

You can, and for IGCSE revision it often works. For the MYP it usually does not. A graduate can teach quadratics; the question your child's report is answering is whether they stated a general rule, justified it and tested it, which is criterion B. A tutor who has never seen a task-specific clarification will teach the topic, your child will get the answers right, and the criterion level will not move. The mark in this programme is awarded for documented process against published strands, so the framework knowledge matters at least as much as the subject knowledge.

Which schools near The Views actually run the Middle Years Programme?+

Families in The Views typically use IB continuum schools in The Meadows, Emirates Hills, Al Barsha and Umm Suqeim, including Emirates International School Meadows, Dubai International Academy Emirates Hills, GEMS World Academy Dubai and Raffles World Academy. Other strong schools in the same catchment are British-curriculum and take students to IGCSE at sixteen instead. Programme licences change between academic years, so check the licensed programmes on the school's own KHDA listing rather than relying on a prospectus or a league-table article. IB Gram has no affiliation with any of these schools and names them only as local context.

What is a task-specific clarification, and why does a tutor keep asking for it?+

MYP criteria are published as generic descriptors, which means they describe the quality of work in general terms rather than naming what a particular task requires. The teacher bridges that gap by writing a task-specific clarification: the same strands, rewritten in the language of the actual assignment. It is usually printed on the task sheet. Without it a tutor is guessing at what the marker will reward, and in this programme the marker is your child's own subject teacher rather than an external examiner. It is the single most useful document you can forward before a first session.

My child's MYP report shows 6, 6, 3, 5 in one subject. What does that mean?+

It means one criterion is costing the grade and three are fine. Those four levels total twenty out of thirty-two, and the school converts the total rather than averaging it into a percentage, so the single 3 drags the reported grade down more than it looks like it should. The useful next step is to find out which tasks assessed that criterion this term and what evidence was missing from them. That is a problem a few targeted sessions can move, unlike general revision across the whole subject, which tends to change nothing.

Does criterion B mean the same thing in Sciences as it does in Mathematics?+

No, and assuming it does is the commonest misreading of an MYP report. In Mathematics criterion B is investigating patterns. In Sciences it is inquiring and designing. In Design it is developing ideas, in Individuals and Societies it is investigating, and in Language and Literature it is organising. Each one demands different evidence, so a student can be strong on criterion B in one subject and weak on it in another without any contradiction. The letters are positions in a subject-group set, not a shared scale running across the whole timetable.

There are no past papers in MYP 3. What does a tutor practise with instead?+

The school's own materials. In MYP 1 to 4 there is no external examination and no bank of released papers, so the practice material is the task sheet, the statement of inquiry, the task-specific clarification and the student's previous marked work. A good session takes a strand that was unmet last time and has the student produce one piece of evidence that meets it, then marks that against the grid. Where a school runs optional eAssessment at MYP 5, timed on-screen task practice becomes available and is worth using in the final year.

Is Standard or Extended Mathematics the right route in MYP 4?+

It depends on where your child is heading after MYP 5 rather than on how they feel about algebra now. Extended Mathematics in MYP 4 and 5 carries additional content depth and is the more comfortable entry point into Diploma Analysis and Approaches, particularly at Higher Level. Standard is a sound route into Applications and Interpretation, and into A Level for a student leaving the continuum. Make the decision in MYP 4 with the school's recommendation and the current criterion profile in front of you, because moving between routes later is harder than choosing carefully once.

What should an hour of MYP support cost in Dubai, and per month?+

The published Dubai market runs from roughly AED 45 an hour at the university-student end, through AED 150 to 300 for a qualified subject tutor online, to AED 200 to 450 and above for a specialist. Bestimate's 2026 rate table puts a weekly one-hour arrangement at around AED 240 to 600 a month at the budget end and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for exam-year specialist help. In-home visits are quoted at AED 180 to 500 an hour, and that premium buys travel rather than better teaching. Those are market figures from the providers named, not an IB Gram price list.

Can one tutor take both MYP Sciences and MYP Mathematics for my child?+

Sometimes, and it is worth asking. The two groups share criterion A wording and a good deal of data-handling practice, so a teacher strong in both can run a single session that serves both reports. It stops being sensible at MYP 5, especially where a student is heading for Higher Level Physics or Chemistry in the Diploma, because the subject depth starts to pull apart. Tell us both groups and both current grades when you enquire and we will say honestly whether one teacher covers them or two are needed.

My child is in MYP 4 in a Language Acquisition phase 2 class. Is that a problem?+

Not in itself. Language Acquisition is organised by phase rather than by year group, so a student can sit in MYP 4 working in phase 2 and be placed entirely correctly. The phase determines which descriptors apply and therefore what the four criteria are asking for, which is why the phase on the report is the first thing a tutor needs. What matters is whether the phase is moving across reports. A phase that has not shifted in two years is worth a conversation with the school before booking any tutoring at all.

When in the school year is MYP tutoring actually worth starting?+

Three moments do most of the work. The week after an interim report, when a criterion level has moved and nobody yet knows which strand caused it. Three or four weeks before a summative task, when the task-specific clarification exists and there is still time to produce evidence against it. And the end of MYP 4, before subject choices for MYP 5 and the Diploma close. A short block timed to one of those three achieves more than a year of weekly hours timed to none of them, which is the opposite of how most families buy tutoring.

Can my child's own teacher at an Emirates Living school tutor them privately?+

No, and you should be wary of anyone who offers it. The code of conduct attached to the MoHRE private tuition work permit bars a permit holder from serving students affiliated with their own school, and ADEK's professional-ethics rules state the same prohibition for Abu Dhabi private and charter school staff. The conflict is obvious: the person tutoring your child would also be the person marking the criterion grids. A teacher from a different school who knows the same programme gives you the subject knowledge without the conflict of interest.

How do I check that a private tutor in Dubai holds the MoHRE permit?+

Ask to see the permit itself, issued in the tutor's own name, and ask when it expires. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and is applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website or e-services system with a stated two-working-day completion time. Because it costs nothing, there is no financial excuse for not holding one. People offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, though no schedule of amounts has been published.

What happens if no MYP specialist is free for our subject group and slot?+

We tell you. The pool of teachers who can mark a criterion grid in a specific subject group is genuinely limited, and MYP 5 Design or a high Language Acquisition phase can be thin at a particular hour. The options are then a different evening, a short wait for a slot to open, or a different teacher whose subject depth we describe honestly before you decide. What we will not do is fill the hour with somebody approximate and let you discover the gap from the next report.

Do Arabic and Islamic Education run alongside the MYP in a Dubai school?+

Yes. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are mandatory in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum, and KHDA requires separate classes for Arab and non-Arab students in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, with combined classes strictly prohibited. Instructional time is calculated in forty-minute lesson units. For an MYP family this means the weekly timetable is fuller than the eight subject groups suggest, which is worth remembering before adding two tutoring sessions to a Year 10 week.

Start with the grid, not the topic

If your child is in the Middle Years Programme at a school in The Meadows, Emirates Hills, Al Barsha or Umm Suqeim, the useful first step is to find the last marked criterion grid and the task sheet that produced it. Send those with the subject group, the MYP year and the school name, and the match becomes a short conversation rather than a guess. The trial lesson is free and the condition is stated: one session, before any payment, with written feedback on one criterion afterwards. Lessons run live online on Gulf Standard Time and can move for Ramadan or for travel without losing the teacher. If nobody suitable is free for the slot you need, we will say so.
