IGCSE Science Tutor in Nad Al Hamar

Before hiring an IGCSE science tutor in Nad Al Hamar, settle one thing: whether your child sits three separate sciences, a coordinated double award, or a single combined award. That decides the number of papers, whether a practical examination exists, and which of the three subjects deserves paid hours. This page works through all of it against the Year 11 calendar. Teaching is one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.

  • Separate, coordinated and combined routes distinguished, with their codes
  • Practical papers explained, including the alternative to practical route
  • A Year 11 countdown that triages between three sciences honestly

IB & IGCSE in Nad Al Hamar

Three sciences, three codes, and one calendar they all sit on

The first question is structural rather than academic. A Dubai IGCSE candidate may be sitting three separate sciences, each with its own certificate; a coordinated double award, which yields two grades across all three disciplines; or a single combined award, which yields one. The three routes carry different numbers of papers, different depth and, critically, different practical arrangements. A parent who does not know which route their child is on cannot sensibly judge how many tutoring hours the sciences deserve.

The second question is the board, because the codes differ and so do the papers. Cambridge International runs Biology 0610, Chemistry 0620 and Physics 0625 as separate sciences, with Co-ordinated Sciences 0654 as the double award and Combined Science 0653 as the single. Pearson Edexcel runs Biology 4BI1, Chemistry 4CH1 and Physics 4PH1, with a double award alternative. A student practising past papers from the wrong code is practising the right science in the wrong format, and in the last eight weeks the format is what is being prepared.

The third is practical assessment, which is where the two boards genuinely diverge. Cambridge separate sciences offer a practical route and an alternative-to-practical written paper, and schools choose between them. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE sciences assess practical skills inside the written papers rather than through a separate practical component. That difference changes what revision looks like: one route needs apparatus familiarity and the other needs practice at answering experimental questions in writing.

Then there is the calendar, which is the same for all three sciences and unforgiving. Content is delivered through Year 10 and the first half of Year 11, mocks land after the winter break, entries close months before the papers, and the series arrives in June with a November resit route. A family carrying three sciences plus six or seven other subjects has to triage, and the honest arithmetic of that triage is set out below rather than hidden behind a package.

Nad Al Hamar is a residential district on the eastern side of Dubai, between the Ras Al Khor sanctuary and the Dubai-Al Ain Road, with no secondary school inside it. Children travel out to Festival City, Mirdif, Al Warqa, Al Qusais and Academic City, coming home between about 3.50pm and 4.35pm, which leaves a narrower evening than a three-science timetable really needs. Teaching is one-to-one over live video, on Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai or anywhere else in the UAE; home tutoring is a service we run in India only. What follows is the three routes compared, the practical arrangements by board, every syllabus code in one table, the Year 11 countdown, and the triage arithmetic for a family that cannot buy three subjects.

SeparateAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Three separate sciences

Biology, chemistry and physics each examined in full and each yielding its own grade, under Cambridge codes 0610, 0620 and 0625 or Pearson codes 4BI1, 4CH1 and 4PH1. The deepest route and the usual choice for students heading toward A Level sciences, medicine or engineering, and the heaviest content load in the timetable by a wide margin.

Most of the larger British and Indian curriculum schools serving the eastern suburbs enter stronger cohorts for separate sciences. For a Nad Al Hamar family this is the route that generates the most tutoring requests, usually in one subject rather than three, and usually physics or chemistry rather than biology.

CoordinatedAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Coordinated or double award science

All three disciplines taught and examined together, yielding two grades, under Cambridge Co-ordinated Sciences 0654 or a Pearson double award. Less depth per discipline than the separate route and substantially less timetable load, which can free time for other subjects. Accepted for many post-16 routes but checked carefully by competitive A Level science programmes.

Families sometimes discover late that the double award affects sixth form options. Ask your school directly whether its own A Level science courses accept a double award entry and at what grade, because the answer varies between schools in the same part of Dubai and is not a national rule.

CombinedAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Combined single award science

One grade covering all three disciplines, under Cambridge Combined Science 0653 or an equivalent. The lightest science load, appropriate for students whose strengths and intended route lie elsewhere. It counts as one subject toward a subject total, which matters for any requirement expressed as a number of passes.

For UAE certificate equivalency the Ministry of Education requires five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than grade E or 3, with Arabic and Islamic education excluded. A combined single award contributes one subject to that count rather than three, which is worth checking against the total before a subject set is finalised.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

What a science tutor should be able to take apart, discipline by discipline and skill by skill.

Physics: electricity and circuits

Core and Extended

Current, potential difference, resistance, series and parallel reasoning. The most requested topic in the eastern suburbs and almost always a reasoning problem rather than a formula problem: students cannot say what happens to the rest of a circuit when one component changes.

Physics: waves and radiation

Core and Extended

Reflection, refraction, the electromagnetic spectrum and radioactive decay. Definitions must be stated precisely and students paraphrase them, which costs marks on questions they believed they had answered correctly.

Physics: forces and motion

Core and Extended

Speed, acceleration, graphs of motion, moments and pressure. Graph interpretation does most of the work here, and a student who cannot read a gradient as a rate will struggle across the whole paper rather than in one topic.

Chemistry: moles and calculations

Extended mainly

Relative formula mass, moles, concentration, percentage yield and gas volumes. The single biggest discriminator on an Extended chemistry paper, and almost entirely a matter of drilling rather than understanding.

Chemistry: electrolysis and reactivity

Core and Extended

Electrode products, half-equations and the reactivity series. Half-equations reward a fixed routine and punish improvisation, which is why a student either scores nearly all of these marks or very few.

Chemistry: organic and polymers

Core and Extended

Homologous series, nomenclature, addition and condensation polymerisation. Largely recall, which makes it one of the fastest areas to recover in a short block before a series.

Biology: transport and respiration

Core and Extended

Circulation, gas exchange, respiration and photosynthesis as linked processes. Students know each process and lose marks when asked to connect two of them, because the connection was never explicitly taught.

Biology: genetics and inheritance

Core and Extended

Monohybrid crosses, genetic diagrams, variation and selection. A procedural topic with a reliable question format, so practice volume converts directly into marks, making it a sensible target in a short block.

Shared skill: experimental questions

All routes, both boards

Variables, controls, repeats, anomalous results, graph plotting and conclusions drawn from data. Examined in every science, through a practical paper, an alternative-to-practical paper or inside the written papers, and the best value hour in science revision because it pays across all three subjects.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three science arrangements that work for a Year 11 carrying a heavy load, all one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.

Single-subject block in the weakest science

One science, chosen from the marked mock, for a bounded number of weeks. The honest default for a student sitting three separate sciences, because three simultaneous subjects of paid tutoring is both unaffordable and counterproductive against the independent practice time it displaces.

  • Subject chosen on marks recoverable, not on which feels worst
  • Bounded block with the session count stated at the start
  • Works from the school's own scheme and the student's marked papers
  • Ends on the date of the first paper in that subject

Experimental-skills block across all three

A short block on variables, controls, repeats, anomalous results, graph plotting and conclusions from data. The one science purchase that pays in all three subjects at once, because the same skills are examined in each whichever practical route the school has chosen.

  • Four to six sessions covering the shared experimental skill set
  • Practised on unfamiliar data sets from all three disciplines
  • Matched to the practical route the school entered, practical or written
  • Measured by marks on experimental questions across subjects

November resit block in one science

Between results and the November series, for a candidate retaking a single science. Built from the paper actually sat rather than from the syllabus, with two timed mocks inside the block and the entry route confirmed before anything else.

  • Entry route checked first: school or private examination centre
  • Topics chosen from the paper's own damage, not from the scheme
  • Two timed mocks inside the block, marked and explained
  • Results reach students in January, so the plan has a known end

Separate, coordinated or combined: find out which before anything else

These are three different qualifications and they generate three different conversations. Separate sciences mean three full courses, three sets of papers and three grades, and they are the normal expectation for a student intending A Level sciences, medicine or engineering. A coordinated or double award covers all three disciplines in less depth and produces two grades. A combined single award produces one. The timetable load differs enormously, and so does the number of subjects your child's certificate will show.

The practical consequence for a tutoring decision is about allocation. A separate-sciences candidate who is weak in physics has one subject to fix out of three, and the other two can be left to school and self-study. A coordinated candidate who is weak in the physics content has a problem inside a single qualification, so the weakness drags both awarded grades rather than one. That changes the priority: the same weakness is more expensive on the coordinated route.

The route also interacts with post-16 plans in ways families discover late. Some sixth forms accept a double award for entry to their own A Level sciences and some require separate sciences, and the requirement is set school by school rather than nationally. The question to ask, in Year 10 rather than after results, is simply whether your school's A Level science courses accept the route your child is on and at what grade.

And it interacts with subject counting. UAE certificate equivalency requires five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than grade E or 3, with Arabic and Islamic education excluded from the count. Three separate sciences contribute three subjects toward a total of that kind; a combined single award contributes one. For a student with a narrow subject set that arithmetic is worth checking against the Ministry's published requirements before the entries are finalised.

02

The practical papers, and the route your school chose for you

This is the part of IGCSE science that parents understand least, partly because the two boards handle it differently. For Cambridge separate sciences, schools choose between a practical test, sat with apparatus under examination conditions, and an alternative-to-practical written paper, which asks about experimental work without requiring the student to perform it. Both assess the same underlying skills and they demand quite different preparation.

For Pearson Edexcel International GCSE sciences, practical skills are assessed within the written papers rather than through a separate practical component. The questions ask about variables, methods, data and conclusions in the context of experiments the student may have performed in class. The revision implication is that experimental questions appear throughout the papers rather than being confined to one, so a student who treats practical work as a separate topic to be revised last will meet it everywhere.

Whichever route applies, the underlying skill set is identical and it is the best-value thing to revise in science. Identifying the independent, dependent and control variables. Explaining why a variable must be controlled rather than simply listing it. Justifying a number of repeats. Spotting an anomalous result and saying what to do about it. Plotting a graph with sensible axes and a line that reflects the data rather than joining the points. Drawing a conclusion the data supports and no more.

Those skills pay in all three disciplines simultaneously, which is why a short block on them is the rational first purchase for a three-science candidate who cannot afford three subjects of tutoring. Four to six sessions, practised on unfamiliar data from biology, chemistry and physics in turn, improves marks across every science paper rather than in one.

The codes, and why practising the wrong ones costs the last eight weeks

Syllabus codes look like administrative trivia and are the most practical piece of information a science family can hold. Cambridge International runs Biology 0610, Chemistry 0620 and Physics 0625, Co-ordinated Sciences 0654 and Combined Science 0653. Pearson Edexcel runs Biology 4BI1, Chemistry 4CH1 and Physics 4PH1. A school may use Cambridge for one science and Pearson for another, which sounds unlikely and happens.

The cost of getting this wrong is concentrated in the final weeks, which is exactly when it is most expensive. A student revising Cambridge physics from Pearson papers will meet the same physics in an unfamiliar question style, will feel either falsely confident or needlessly alarmed, and will have spent the scarcest hours of the year on a format they will not sit. Research across this market found that exactly one syllabus code appeared anywhere in an entire cluster of competitor pages, which tells you how rarely this is checked.

Codes also carry the tier. Cambridge separate sciences are entered at Core or Extended, with a grade ceiling on the lower tier that no amount of tutoring lifts. Pearson sciences have their own tier arrangements. Confirming the tier matters as much as confirming the code, because the topics examined differ and because a parent who wants to argue for the higher entry has to do it before the entry closes, months before the papers.

Finally, the series. Cambridge International runs IGCSE and O Level in a June series and a November series, and the February and March series is offered to India only, so a Dubai parent reading advice about a February science examination is reading advice for another country. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May and June and again in November. Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones with different timetables, and states that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an examination after using the wrong zone's version.

The Year 11 science countdown

Science has more content than almost any other subject block on a Year 11 timetable, which makes the calendar tighter here than elsewhere. August and September are for establishing facts: the route, the codes, the tier, the practical arrangement and the school's mock dates. They are also the last stretch in which content can be taught comfortably rather than squeezed, and the cheapest point at which to fix a weakness in one discipline.

October to the winter break is content completion plus the first serious revision, and it is when entries are being prepared. The tier conversation, if there is to be one, has to happen here. After the break come the mocks, which in science are unusually informative because they expose the difference between a student who has not learned the content and a student who cannot answer experimental and graph questions about content they do know.

January and February are therefore diagnostic months rather than buying months. Read the marked scripts across all three sciences and look for the pattern. If experimental questions are being lost in every subject, the problem is a shared skill and one short block fixes it in all three. If one discipline is far behind the other two, that is a single-subject block. If everything is low with time left on the paper, the problem is content and the honest answer may be that only one subject can be rescued.

March onward is technique and targeted recovery. Timed papers in the correct codes, the experimental skill set drilled, and the recall-heavy topics in each science swept in short bursts because they are the fastest marks available late. Organic chemistry and polymers, genetics and inheritance, and radiation definitions are all high-recall and respond to drilling in the final weeks in a way that circuit reasoning does not.

Which of the three sciences to pay for, and which to leave alone

  • Biology is recall-heavy and therefore the most recoverable late, if the student will memorise
  • Chemistry calculations have the highest leverage per hour at Extended level
  • Physics circuit reasoning is the least recoverable in a short window
  • The experimental skill set is the only purchase that improves all three papers
  • Taught hours displace independent practice, so three subjects at once is self-defeating

Three sciences cannot all be tutored, and attempting it is both expensive and self-defeating, because taught hours displace the independent practice that actually consolidates science content. The triage question is not which subject feels worst but which has the most recoverable marks in the weeks available, and the answer is frequently counter-intuitive.

Biology is the most content-heavy and the most recall-driven, which makes it the most recoverable late, provided the student will do the memorisation. A biology deficit two months out is usually fixable with drilling and past questions rather than teaching. Chemistry depends heavily on calculations at Extended level, and a student who cannot do moles will be losing marks across the paper, so a short calculation block has high leverage. Physics is the most reasoning-dependent, especially circuits, and is the least recoverable in a hurry.

That suggests a rough order of priority when time is short: fix the chemistry calculations, drill the biology recall, and accept that physics reasoning needs longer. When there is more time, the order reverses, because physics reasoning built in the autumn pays across the whole paper and biology recall can wait until it is fresh. The right answer depends on how many weeks exist, which is why the calendar and the triage are the same conversation.

One more factor: the practical and experimental questions are shared across all three sciences. A block on that skill set is the only science purchase that improves three papers at once, and for a family that can only afford one block it is frequently the best choice available, ahead of any single-subject work.

06

Three sciences and one evening: scheduling the week

A Year 11 student in Nad Al Hamar comes home between about 3.50pm and 4.35pm depending on direction, later on activity days, and then has to fit homework from nine or ten subjects plus revision. Science is the heaviest of those loads. The practical consequence is that a tutoring slot has to be chosen for the week it is hardest to keep rather than the week it is easiest, and that one tutored subject plus structured self-study usually beats two tutored subjects with no time left to practise.

Session length should follow the problem rather than convention. Content teaching in a weak discipline needs ninety minutes, because explanation plus practice plus checking does not compress. Experimental skills and calculation drilling work better at forty-five minutes twice a week, because both are habits. A full timed paper plus its review needs two clear hours, which on a weeknight does not exist, so that belongs on a weekend morning.

For households with two candidates, consecutive slots on one evening work better than separate evenings. One-to-one means one student in the session, so an hour cannot be shared, but an evening can, and giving up one weeknight is easier to sustain through a whole term than giving up three. In practice a 6pm and a 7.15pm pair holds well in this part of Dubai.

Ramadan reshapes the month: school hours shorten, door times come forward by an hour or more, and families split between early-afternoon and post-Iftar slots. Both work over video, which they would not with a tutor crossing the eastern suburbs at Iftar. For a Year 11 science candidate the planning move is to front-load content work into the weeks before and treat the month as recall and retention work, which suits biology particularly well.

What science help costs, and the three-subject mistake

The expensive error in science is buying three subjects because there are three sciences. At the qualified online band of AED 150 to 300 an hour, three weekly sessions runs to roughly three times the mid monthly estimate, which Bestimate puts at AED 600 to 1,200 for a single weekly hour. That is a substantial monthly commitment for a result that is often worse than one well-chosen block, because the student loses the evenings they needed for memorisation and past questions.

Set the same published bands against a twelve-week term in a single science and the decision sharpens further. A weekly hour with a qualified subject tutor online, quoted at AED 150 to 300 and published by Unitors at IGCSE from AED 150, is AED 1,800 to 3,600 a term for Biology on its own. Move to the IGCSE specialist band of AED 200 to 450 and above, where TutorChase publishes AED 270, and the same term costs AED 2,400 to 5,400. In-home visits are quoted at AED 180 to 500 an hour once travel out to Nad Al Hamar is absorbed, with Bestimate at AED 180 to 350, which is a term between AED 2,160 and AED 6,000 for one subject on one evening. Budget online platforms advertise from AED 33 to 65, with Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52 and EdFlik from AED 45 to 65, and a full term there costs less than a single specialist month, which is precisely why families buy three of them and end up with three shallow subjects. Every figure is the provider's own, read in October 2026.

Packages seen in the Dubai market include about AED 799 a month for eight online sessions, which for a science family is worth noting because eight shorter sessions can cover a twice-weekly drilling pattern in one subject rather than one session each in three. In-home monthly packages appear at AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour visits, where part of the money is paying for travel across the eastern suburbs rather than for teaching.

A tuition centre group class remains the cheapest taught option per head and genuinely suits a science student whose problem is practice volume rather than a named gap, which in science is more often the case than in mathematics. And the school's own science clinics are usually included in fees and aligned exactly with the codes your child sits. A family paying for three sciences without having used those is almost certainly overspending.

Coursework, data and the line a science tutor does not cross

IGCSE sciences on these routes do not carry a written internal assessment in the way the Diploma does, but practical work still produces data that students write up, and schools set assessed tasks of their own. The boundary therefore still matters. A tutor may teach the content, explain what an experimental question rewards, demonstrate a full worked analysis on an entirely different data set, and read your child's own work to ask questions about variables, repeats, anomalies and whether a conclusion is supported.

A tutor may not design the method for the student, process their data, write or rewrite a write-up, or produce material the student submits as their own. In science specifically the temptation is data rather than prose: adjusting an awkward reading, dropping a point without justification, or inventing repeats that were never done. Each of those is falsification, and the honest treatment scores better anyway, because an anomaly identified and discussed earns credit while one quietly deleted earns nothing.

We also do not supply syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes or grade-boundary tables as downloads. They belong to Cambridge International and Pearson, the boards publish specifications on their own sites, and your child's school has legitimate access to the assessment material. A tutor working from that material inside a session is ordinary practice; hosting a download library of it is distributing somebody else's property.

And we claim no approval from anyone. IB Gram holds no accreditation, licence or partnership from KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, MoHRE, Cambridge International or Pearson, and operates no office or centre in the UAE. Individual tutors in the UAE need the MoHRE private tuition work permit introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, which is free of charge and valid for two years; if you hire independently, ask to see it.

Nad Al Hamar

Residential streets between the Ras Al Khor sanctuary and the Dubai-Al Ain Road, with no secondary school inside the district and a short local tutor list dominated by generalists.

Al Warqa

Large British and Indian curriculum schools and the strongest separate-sciences entry pattern near Nad Al Hamar. Most three-science requests from this part of Dubai come from these schools.

Dubai Festival City

Two large international schools with their own science routes and mock calendars. Entry boards differ between them, which is why the code has to be checked per school and sometimes per subject.

Mirdif

Dense school and tuition centre belt, so group science classes are available at a short drive. A class suits practice volume and cannot stop on circuits for one student.

Al Mizhar

American-curriculum provision alongside British schools, where the science route may be a high-school sequence rather than an IGCSE award at all. Worth settling before comparing with a neighbour's child.

Al Khawaneej

Outer villa streets with long internal roads and late, predictable arrivals. Three-science evenings here realistically start at 7pm, which argues for shorter sessions.

Al Qusais and Al Nahda

North-east along the metro corridor, thirty-five to forty minutes at pickup. Door times after 4.10pm and a heavy Year 11 evening load behind them.

Academic City and Dubai Silicon Oasis

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Establish the route and the codes

Separate sciences, coordinated double award or combined single award, and the syllabus code and tier for each science. One email to the exams officer settles it, and no sensible plan precedes it.

  2. 02

Read all three marked mock scripts together

The pattern across the three is more informative than any one of them. Experimental questions lost in every subject means a shared skill block; one discipline far behind means a single-subject block.

  3. 03

Choose one block, not three subjects

Ranked on recoverable marks in the weeks available rather than on which subject feels worst. We will say when the best choice is the experimental-skills block that improves all three papers at once.

  4. 04

Trial lesson, forty-five minutes, live online

Real work in the correct syllabus code, with no card details collected. Afterwards you get a written note naming the subject, the topic and the skill the tutor would attack first, and what they would leave alone.

Measure by marks on experimental questions

A single number across all three sciences that a parent can track without specialist knowledge. If it is not rising after four weeks of a shared-skills block, the approach changes.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The route is settled first

Separate, coordinated and combined are three different qualifications with different loads, different grade counts and different effects on a sixth-form application. We establish which one your child is on before discussing hours.

Codes stated, not assumed

Cambridge 0610, 0620, 0625, 0654 and 0653, and Pearson 4BI1, 4CH1 and 4PH1. Research across this market found exactly one syllabus code anywhere in a whole cluster of competitor pages. Practising the wrong code wastes the final weeks.

The practical route matched

A Cambridge practical test, a Cambridge alternative-to-practical paper and Pearson's in-paper assessment need different preparation. We ask which one the school entered rather than guessing.

Triage advice that costs us money

One well-chosen block beats three subjects of weekly tutoring, and the experimental-skills block is often the best single purchase available. We will say so even though it is the smaller sale.

Rates attributed and dated

Every AED figure here was published by the provider named and read in October 2026. Three of six ranking pages in this market publish no price at all, and two of the three that do quote in US dollars.

Honest about data

An anomalous result identified and discussed earns credit; one quietly deleted earns nothing and risks a falsification finding. We say that to students before the temptation arrives rather than afterwards.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Nad Al Hamar: your questions answered

Is our child sitting three separate sciences or a double award?+

The statement of entry says, and the exams officer will confirm it in one email. Separate sciences means three full courses under Cambridge codes 0610, 0620 and 0625 or Pearson 4BI1, 4CH1 and 4PH1, with three grades. A coordinated or double award covers all three disciplines in less depth under Cambridge 0654 and yields two grades. A combined single award yields one. The routes differ in timetable load, in depth, and in how many subjects your child's certificate shows.

Does a double award science limit sixth-form options in Dubai?+

It can, and the rule is set school by school rather than nationally. Some sixth forms accept a double award for entry to their own A Level sciences, sometimes at a higher grade, and some require separate sciences. Ask your school's own published criteria in Year 10 rather than after results. There is also a subject-counting effect: three separate sciences contribute three subjects to a total, while a combined single award contributes one, which matters for any requirement expressed as a number of passes.

How are IGCSE science practicals assessed if my child studies partly online?+

The practical work itself happens at school, with apparatus, as it must. What differs is the assessment route. Cambridge separate sciences offer a practical test with apparatus or an alternative-to-practical written paper, and the school chooses. Pearson Edexcel assesses practical skills inside the written papers. Online tutoring supports the parts that are desk work: variables, controls, repeats, anomalous results, graph plotting and conclusions from data, which is where most of the marks actually sit in every route.

Which syllabus codes should we be downloading past papers for?+

Whichever ones appear on the statement of entry, and check per subject because a school can use different boards for different sciences. Cambridge runs Biology 0610, Chemistry 0620, Physics 0625, Co-ordinated Sciences 0654 and Combined Science 0653; Pearson runs 4BI1, 4CH1 and 4PH1. Practising the wrong code means meeting the right science in an unfamiliar question style during the scarcest weeks of the year. We do not host board material ourselves; your school has legitimate access.

If we can only afford one science, which should we pay for?+

Often none of them individually. The experimental skill set, variables, controls, repeats, anomalies, graphs and conclusions, is examined in all three sciences whichever practical route applies, so a four to six session block on it improves three papers at once. If a single subject must be chosen, pick on recoverable marks in the weeks available: chemistry calculations have the highest leverage per hour, biology recall is the most recoverable late, and physics circuit reasoning is the least recoverable in a hurry.

Why is our child fine in science lessons and weak on science papers?+

Usually experimental and graph questions, which are examined in every science and taught as an afterthought in many schemes. A student can know respiration thoroughly and still lose marks explaining why a variable had to be controlled, justifying a number of repeats, or drawing a line of best fit rather than joining the points. Read the marked scripts: if experimental questions are shedding marks in all three subjects, it is a shared skill gap rather than three content gaps.

Can biology really be rescued in the last two months?+

More readily than physics, yes, provided your child will do the memorisation. Biology is the most content-heavy and most recall-driven of the three, which makes it the most responsive to drilling and past questions late in the year. Genetics and inheritance in particular has a reliable question format where practice volume converts directly into marks. What does not respond the same way is physics circuit reasoning, which needs understanding built over longer than eight weeks.

Our school entered the Core tier for science. Can tutoring change the grade?+

Only within the tier. The Core entry at Cambridge carries a grade ceiling that is a property of the paper rather than the candidate, so a student who performs outstandingly on a Core paper still receives a capped grade. Tutoring can maximise the result inside the tier, and more usefully, if there is still time, build the case for an Extended entry. That case has to be made before entries close, months before the papers, which in practice means Year 10 or very early Year 11.

Is there a February science series our child could sit in Dubai?+

No. Cambridge International runs IGCSE and O Level in a June series and a November series, and the February and March series is offered to India only. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May and June and again in November. Any page offering a Dubai parent a February examination window has copied guidance written for another country. Note also that Cambridge allocates centres to one of six administrative zones with different timetables and cannot accept responsibility for candidates who use the wrong version.

Which schools near Nad Al Hamar enter students for separate sciences?+

Mostly the larger British and Indian curriculum schools in Al Warqa and the Festival City cluster, including GEMS Our Own English High School, Deira International School and Universal American School Dubai, with the Mirdif and Al Mizhar belt running a mix of separate, coordinated and American high-school routes. Boards differ between schools and sometimes between subjects within a school. Schools are named here as local context only, with no affiliation or endorsement implied.

How should three sciences fit into a Nad Al Hamar weeknight?+

They mostly should not. Door times run from about 3.50pm to past 4.35pm depending on direction, and a Year 11 candidate carries nine or ten subject homeworks plus revision. One tutored science plus structured self-study in the other two beats two tutored subjects with no practice time left. Content teaching needs ninety minutes once a week; calculation and recall drilling works better at forty-five minutes twice a week; a full timed paper plus review needs a weekend morning.

What happens to science revision during Ramadan?+

School hours shorten, so the Nad Al Hamar door time comes forward by an hour or more and the evening changes shape. Families generally move to an early-afternoon slot or a post-Iftar one, and both work over video in a way they would not with a tutor travelling across the eastern suburbs at Iftar. The planning move for a science candidate is to front-load content work into the preceding weeks and use the month for recall and retention, which suits biology particularly well.

Would a group science class at a Mirdif centre be good enough?+

In science, more often than in mathematics. A centre class is the cheapest taught option per head and supplies structure, pace and practice volume, which is the actual problem for a large share of science candidates: they know roughly what to do and have not done enough questions. Where a class fails is the named gap, such as a student who cannot reason about circuits, because the class moves at the scheme's pace. Try the school's own science clinic first, since it is usually included in fees.

Should the same person teach all three of our sciences, or just one?+

For experimental skills and graph work, yes, and that is a genuinely good use of one tutor because those skills are identical across the three. For Extended content at depth, treat the claim cautiously: a tutor offering strength in all three disciplines at the higher tier is claiming three specialisms. The useful pattern is one tutor for the shared experimental block, then a subject specialist for whichever single discipline the marked mocks identify as furthest behind.

Settle the route, then buy one block

Science decisions go wrong at the start rather than at the end. Find out whether your child sits separate sciences, a coordinated double award or a combined single award, get the syllabus code and tier for each, and check which practical route the school entered. Then read all three marked mock scripts together and look for the pattern across them, because if experimental questions are shedding marks everywhere, one short block fixes three papers. Teaching is one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time; home tutoring is an India-only service for us. Last reviewed 22 October 2026.
