IB Chemistry Tutor in Nad Al Hamar

Most families looking for an IB chemistry tutor in Nad Al Hamar arrive with one of two sentences: organic chemistry has gone wrong, or the calculations are costing marks the class tests did not reveal. Both have a place in the Diploma calendar where they can still be fixed, and this page says where. Teaching is one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time; no tutor is sent to a UAE address.

IB & IGCSE in Nad Al Hamar

Chemistry fails in two places and both have a deadline

The first failure is organic chemistry, and it arrives late enough in most schemes to be genuinely dangerous. Up to that point a capable student can carry chemistry on recall and careful arithmetic. Organic asks for something different: a mental model of how a functional group behaves, why a reaction proceeds in one direction, and at Higher Level the mechanisms and the spectroscopic evidence that identify a structure. Students who have been scoring well suddenly cannot, and they conclude that chemistry has become impossible rather than that it has changed shape.

The second failure is calculation accuracy, and it is invisible in classwork. Moles, concentration, limiting reagents, percentage yield, enthalpy changes by Hess's law or bond enthalpies, equilibrium constants, pH on a logarithmic scale, and at Higher Level rate equations and electrochemical calculations. Each is straightforward in isolation and each attracts a specific error under examination pressure. A student loses one mark here and one there, and the total is a grade.

Both failures sit on a calendar. Organic can be rebuilt in the autumn term of DP2 and not usefully in April, because it is content rather than technique. Calculation accuracy is the opposite: it is a habit, so it responds to drilling right up to the week before a paper, and it is the right thing to buy late. Knowing which of the two problems a student has decides what you should be purchasing and when, and a marked paper answers it in minutes.

Running alongside both is the internal assessment, one independent investigation carrying twenty per cent of the chemistry grade, marked by the school and moderated. In chemistry the risk concentrates in whether the chosen question can generate enough quantitative variation to analyse, which many plausible-sounding chemistry questions cannot. That is decided before any solution is made up, which makes a single screening session in the DP1 spring the most valuable hour on offer.

Nad Al Hamar is a residential district on the eastern side of Dubai between the Ras Al Khor sanctuary and the Dubai-Al Ain Road, and its children travel out to schools in Festival City, Mirdif, Al Warqa, Al Qusais and Academic City. There is no Diploma school inside the district and a resident Higher Level chemistry specialist would be a coincidence. Teaching is one-to-one over live video, on Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai or anywhere else in the UAE; home tutoring is a service we run in India only, and for chemistry a shared screen carrying a mechanism, a spectrum and the student's own titration data is the better tool anyway. The rest of this page names every calculation type and its characteristic error, tests investigation questions for feasibility, and sets the DP2 terms against what school is teaching.

  • Calculation accuracy is a habit and responds to drilling right up to the papers
  • The internal assessment carries twenty per cent and its ceiling is set by the question
  • Significant figures and units cost single marks across a whole paper and are pure carelessness

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Chemistry requests from the eastern suburbs come from three places in the sequence, each needing a different first month.

DPAges 16-19 · DP1 and DP2

Diploma Programme chemistry

Higher and Standard Level, sharing a core with substantial additional Higher Level material in organic chemistry, spectroscopy, kinetics and electrochemistry. Assessment is through written papers plus one internally assessed investigation worth twenty per cent of the grade. Confirm current paper weightings with your teacher, since the subject guide is revised periodically.

Diploma schools serving the eastern suburbs reach organic chemistry at different points in DP1 and DP2, which is why two students at neighbouring schools can need opposite things in the same month. A chemistry plan has to be built against your own school's scheme of work rather than against a general syllabus order.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP 1-5

Middle Years sciences

Integrated sciences assessed against four criteria, with inquiring and designing and processing and evaluating doing the groundwork for the Diploma investigation. Chemistry-specific quantitative work is lighter here than in a separate IGCSE chemistry course, so the gap on arrival is usually arithmetic rather than concept.

Students coming into DP chemistry from MYP in an eastern-suburb continuum school are typically stronger on investigation design and weaker on mole calculations than students arriving from IGCSE chemistry. Knowing which profile your child has decides whether the first block is calculations or method design.

TransitionAges 15-16 · The summer between

IGCSE chemistry into DP chemistry

The step is in quantity and in precision rather than in difficulty. DP chemistry assumes mole calculations are automatic, expects significant figures to be justified, and introduces thermodynamic and equilibrium reasoning that IGCSE only gestures at. Six weeks on moles, concentration and enthalpy before DP1 removes most of the first-term trouble.

Families in this part of Dubai often travel for a long summer, which makes a bridging block awkward in person and straightforward over video across time zones. Two sessions a week for six weeks on calculations alone is the cheapest useful chemistry intervention available.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Chemistry divides into content blocks and into calculation types. A tutor should be able to discuss both by name.

Stoichiometry and the mole

HL and SL

Molar mass, moles from mass and from concentration, limiting reagents, percentage yield and gas volumes. The arithmetic foundation of the whole subject, and the place where a single careless conversion invalidates a multi-mark answer that was otherwise correct.

Energetics and thermochemistry

HL and SL

Enthalpy changes by calorimetry, Hess's law and bond enthalpies, with entropy and Gibbs free energy at Higher Level. Sign conventions are the reliable error: students compute the magnitude correctly and then state exothermic when they mean endothermic.

Chemical kinetics

SL qualitative, HL quantitative

Collision theory and activation energy at both levels, then rate equations, orders of reaction, rate-determining steps and the Arrhenius relationship at Higher Level. Determining order from data is a graph-handling skill and is examined as one.

Equilibrium

HL and SL

Le Chatelier reasoning at both levels and equilibrium constant calculations at Higher Level. Students reason about shifts confidently and then lose marks writing the equilibrium expression with the wrong powers or including a pure solid.

Acids and bases

HL and SL

Strong and weak acid behaviour, pH on a logarithmic scale, buffers and titration curves, with the weak acid dissociation calculations at Higher Level. Logarithms are the obstacle rather than the chemistry, which makes this a mathematics problem for many students.

Redox and electrochemistry

HL and SL

Oxidation states, half-equations, electrolysis and cells, with cell potential and electrolytic quantification at Higher Level. Balancing half-equations in acidic or basic conditions is a procedure that students half-remember and that rewards a fixed routine.

Organic chemistry

HL and SL

Functional groups, nomenclature and reaction types at both levels, then mechanisms including nucleophilic substitution pathways, elimination and electrophilic addition at Higher Level. The dividing line between a 5 and a 7 at Higher Level, and the part that needs a model rather than recall.

Spectroscopy and structure determination

Mostly HL

Infrared absorptions, mass spectrometry fragmentation and nuclear magnetic resonance interpretation, used together to identify an unknown structure. A puzzle-solving skill that improves rapidly with volume of practice and barely at all with explanation.

The internal assessment

Compulsory, both levels

One independent investigation worth twenty per cent of the grade, marked against four criteria and externally moderated. In chemistry the binding constraint is whether the question permits enough quantitative variation to analyse, which many reasonable-sounding questions do not.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three chemistry arrangements tied to where the course has reached, all one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.

Organic rebuild block

Eight to twelve weeks in the DP2 autumn on functional group behaviour, reaction types and, at Higher Level, mechanisms and spectroscopic identification. Content rather than technique, which is why it has to happen in the autumn and cannot be bought in the spring.

  • Starts from functional group behaviour rather than from nomenclature lists
  • Mechanisms drawn and redrawn until the arrow-pushing is automatic
  • Spectroscopy practised on unknown structures, in volume
  • Ends before the mock window on a stated date

Calculation drilling

Short frequent sessions on the calculation types, one at a time, with a deliberate focus on the specific error each attracts. Habit work, so forty-five minutes twice a week beats one long session, and it remains worth buying right up to the final fortnight.

  • One calculation type per week, taken to automatic accuracy
  • Significant figures and units checked as a fixed routine
  • Error count recorded each session so progress is visible
  • Useful at any point in the calendar, including the last fortnight

Investigation question screening

One or two sessions in the DP1 spring, before any solutions are made up, testing whether the proposed question can generate enough quantitative variation to analyse. Many sensible-sounding chemistry questions cannot, and that caps the mark before the laboratory is booked.

  • Checks the independent variable can be varied across a real range
  • Checks the measured quantity changes enough to exceed the uncertainty
  • Confirms the processing the data would permit is sufficient
  • Delivered before the practical work, which is the entire point

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Nad Al Hamar

01

Organic chemistry, and why it separates Higher Level students

Everything in chemistry before organic can be carried on two things: careful arithmetic and reliable recall. Organic withdraws both supports. Nomenclature is recall, so students start comfortably, and then the course asks why a particular reagent attacks a particular carbon, what the intermediate looks like, and which of two pathways a given substrate will follow. That is a model of behaviour rather than a list of facts, and a student who has succeeded by memorising is suddenly working without their main tool.

At Higher Level this intensifies. Mechanisms must be drawn with correct arrow placement, intermediates must be shown, and the choice between substitution pathways has to be justified from the structure of the substrate. Alongside that sits structure determination, where infrared absorptions, a mass spectrum and nuclear magnetic resonance data are used together to identify an unknown compound. That is a puzzle-solving skill, and it improves with volume of practice far more than with explanation.

The practical teaching consequence is that organic has to be rebuilt from behaviour rather than patched from past questions. A student who cannot say why a nucleophile is a nucleophile will not be rescued by twenty more mechanism questions. Six to eight hours on electron availability, polarity and what makes a leaving group leave does more than a term of question practice, and it transfers across the whole of the topic rather than to the specific questions drilled.

The calendar consequence is that this is autumn work. Organic is content, and content needs time to settle, which means the DP2 autumn term is the last honest window. A parent offered an organic rebuild in April should ask what will be dropped to make room, because the answer is usually revision in the other five subjects. Where the spring can still help is in structure determination practice, which is pattern recognition and responds to late drilling.

02

Every calculation type, and the error it reliably attracts

Chemistry marks leak one at a time through calculations, and the leaks are predictable enough to be listed. That is unusually good news, because a predictable error is a fixable one. Moles from mass invites a molar mass computed from the wrong formula. Moles from concentration invites a volume left in millilitres. Limiting reagent questions invite the student to use the reagent named first rather than the one that runs out. Percentage yield invites a theoretical yield based on the wrong stoichiometric ratio.

Enthalpy calculations invite sign errors, and specifically a correct magnitude attached to the wrong direction, which is the most frustrating single mark in the subject. Hess's law cycles invite a reversed arrow left unreversed in the arithmetic. Bond enthalpy calculations invite the student to forget that bonds broken and bonds formed enter with opposite signs. pH work invites logarithm handling errors rather than chemistry errors. Equilibrium expressions invite wrong powers and the inclusion of pure solids.

At Higher Level, rate equations invite an order read off a graph without checking the axes, and electrochemical calculations invite the wrong number of electrons in a half-equation. None of these is a conceptual failure. Each is a specific mechanical slip, each recurs in the same student across papers, and each is eliminated by naming it and then drilling that one type until it is automatic.

The diagnostic a parent can run without any chemistry is to take a marked paper and sort the lost marks into calculation slips, sign and unit errors, command-term misreadings and genuine content gaps. If the first two categories dominate, the problem is drilling rather than teaching, and it can be fixed in weeks at any point in the calendar, including the last fortnight before a paper.

03

Chemistry investigation questions that work, and ones that cannot

The chemistry internal assessment carries twenty per cent of the grade and its ceiling is set at the question. The requirement that catches students is quantitative range: the independent variable must be variable across a span wide enough that the measured quantity changes by substantially more than its own uncertainty. Plenty of chemically interesting questions fail that test, and the failure is invisible until the data comes back flat.

Concentration-dependence questions usually work, because concentration can be varied across an order of magnitude and the effect on rate or on equilibrium position is measurable. Temperature-dependence questions usually work, with the caveat that the accessible range in a school laboratory is narrow. Questions comparing two or three named substances usually struggle, because three data points do not permit analysis of a relationship, only a comparison, and the processing marks have nowhere to go.

Questions about something that cannot be measured accurately with school apparatus fail for a different reason: the uncertainty swamps the effect. A mass change of a few hundredths of a gram measured on a two-decimal balance gives an uncertainty of the same order as the result. Students pick these because the chemistry sounds sophisticated. A single screening conversation before the laboratory is booked prevents it, and after the data exists nothing can.

Where a tutor's role is legitimate and valuable: discussing feasibility, explaining what the marking rewards, demonstrating a complete worked analysis on an entirely different data set, and reading your child's own draft to ask questions about range, repeats, uncertainty and whether the conclusion follows from the processing. Choosing the question, designing the method, processing the data or writing any section is not on the list, and it is a malpractice exposure that falls on the candidate rather than on us.

04

The three terms of DP2 chemistry, matched to what school is teaching

A chemistry plan only works if it sits alongside the school's scheme rather than running its own. In most eastern-suburb Diploma schools the DP2 autumn term carries the remaining content, frequently including the Higher Level organic and spectroscopic material, and also carries the internal assessment deadline. That double load is the reason this term produces the most distress calls, and the reason the investigation design should have been done the previous spring.

The term from the winter break to the spring break is mock-driven. Mocks are sat, marked and converted into predicted grades. The marked script is the most useful document of the whole year, and it should be read for its error pattern rather than its total. A chemistry script dominated by sign errors, unit slips and logarithm mistakes describes a different student from one dominated by blank organic mechanism questions, and the two need opposite plans.

The final term is revision only. Timed papers, mark-scheme logic, the calculation types drilled one by one, and structure determination practised in volume because it is pattern recognition and improves late. Content is not rebuilt here. A parent being sold a content programme in April should ask which other subject's revision it will displace, and the honest answer is usually one that matters.

The table below sets what the school is likely doing against what a tutor should add. The value of the exercise is that it stops a tutor from teaching in parallel. A session that repairs the misunderstanding in this week's school topic is worth several that cover a different part of the syllabus competently, and in a subject as cumulative as chemistry that gap compounds.

05

Accuracy as a grade: significant figures, units and the mole

  • Round once, at the end, to three significant figures unless told otherwise
  • Convert units before any arithmetic, never during it
  • State exothermic or endothermic before writing the enthalpy number
  • A thirty-second end-of-question check returns more marks than another topic
  • Automaticity with moles is drilling, not understanding, and takes six to eight short sessions

Chemistry is the Diploma subject where carelessness is most expensive, because almost every question ends in a number. The conventions are simple and the discipline is not. Work to full precision throughout and round once, at the end, to three significant figures unless the question says otherwise. Carry units through every line, including through rearrangement. State whether a process is exothermic or endothermic before writing the magnitude, so the sign cannot drift. Convert volumes to the units the formula expects before any arithmetic starts.

The reason students resist this is that each individual rule is worth one mark, and one mark feels negligible. Across a paper with twenty numerical answers it is not negligible at all, and across two papers it is a grade. The honest framing for a student is arithmetic rather than moral: count the marks lost to these conventions on a marked paper, and the number is usually larger than the marks lost to any single content topic.

The remedy is a routine rather than a lesson. A fixed thirty-second check at the end of every numerical question: have I converted the units, is the sign right, is the number of figures justified, does the magnitude look physically sensible. Practised until automatic, it costs ten minutes a paper and returns several marks. It is the single highest-return habit available in the subject, and it can be installed at any point, including the week before a paper.

The mole deserves its own mention because it underpins everything. A student who is not automatic with moles from mass, moles from concentration and the stoichiometric ratio will be slow in every calculation question and will run short of time on the extended paper. Automaticity here is not a conceptual achievement; it is drilling, and six to eight short sessions produce it. For a student arriving from MYP integrated science rather than IGCSE chemistry, this is usually the first thing to buy.

06

Chemistry for medicine, and the route questions behind the subject

A large share of Higher Level chemistry students in Dubai are taking it because of where they intend to apply rather than because of the subject. Medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, veterinary science, biochemistry and chemical engineering all commonly require chemistry, frequently at Higher Level, and sometimes with a stated grade. That changes the nature of the conversation: the target is not a good grade but a specific one, and the gap between a 5 and a 6 may matter more than anything else in the student's results.

Two cautions follow. The first is that entry requirements are published by individual universities for individual courses and vary more than general advice suggests. The only reliable method is to open the entry-requirements page for the exact course at the exact university and read the chemistry line. A general rule read on a tutoring page is not a substitute, and this page will not offer one.

The second is that tutoring is not required for admission anywhere and nobody can promise a grade. No provider can promise a particular grade, a points total or a university place, and one that does is making a claim it cannot stand behind, and in a market where that promise is common it is the clearest available signal to walk away. What can honestly be offered is work on the specific components where marks are currently being lost.

For UAE-based routes there is a separate administrative matter. UAE certificate equivalency is a Ministry of Education process with published requirements for the British and American tracks, and for the International Baccalaureate no points threshold appears in the sourced guidance we have read, so we publish none. A family needing equivalency should check moe.gov.ae or the emirate attestation authority directly. We describe the process; we do not perform, expedite or guarantee any part of it.

07

What chemistry support costs, as a monthly figure

Families budget monthly, so here are the market figures in that form. Bestimate's rate table estimates a weekly one-hour arrangement at roughly AED 240 to 600 a month at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle, and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for a specialist in an examination year. Packages visible in the Dubai market include about AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home visits.

Converted to hourly, a qualified subject tutor online is quoted at AED 150 to 300, with Unitors publishing IB from AED 200. IB specialists sit at AED 200 to 450 and above, with TutorChase at AED 270. Premium named tutors reach AED 500 to 650 and more, with BartyED at AED 650. Budget online platforms advertise from AED 33 to 65, with Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52 and EdFlik from AED 45 to 65. In-home visits are quoted at AED 180 to 500 an hour once travel is absorbed.

For chemistry specifically, the useful observation is that the two problems have different price points. Calculation drilling is mechanical and does not require a tutor at the top of the range; a qualified subject tutor at the AED 150 to 300 band does it perfectly well and twice a week is affordable in the middle monthly band. An organic rebuild at Higher Level, including mechanisms and spectroscopy, does need somebody who has taught that material, and that sits in the specialist band.

Every figure above was published by the provider named and read in October 2026. IB Gram does not post a fixed hourly price on these pages, because it depends on level, component and proximity to a session. The trial is forty-five minutes, costs nothing and takes no card details. For household context, KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that private school fees in Dubai would not rise for the 2026-27 academic year under the emirate's AED 1.5 billion second economic incentives package, so tutoring is the moving part of an education budget rather than fees.

Anomalous results, and the line that must not be crossed

Chemistry has its own particular honesty hazard, and it is not plagiarism. It is data. An investigation produces a point that does not fit, or a whole set that shows no trend, and the temptation is to tidy it: drop the awkward reading without justification, adjust a value toward the expected answer, or quietly repeat only the measurements that behaved. Each of those is falsification, and it is the kind of malpractice that a moderator who has seen a thousand write-ups can often detect.

The legitimate treatment is better for the mark anyway. An anomalous result that is identified, discussed and excluded with a stated reason earns credit under evaluation; the same result silently deleted earns nothing and risks everything. A data set showing no trend is a genuine finding that can be written up honestly, with the uncertainty discussed and the method critiqued, and it scores considerably better than a fabricated trend badly disguised. Students do not know this, and it is worth telling them early rather than after they have been tempted.

Our boundary is the same here as everywhere. A tutor may teach the content, explain what the marking rewards, advise on whether a question is feasible, demonstrate a full worked analysis on an entirely different data set, and read the student's own draft to ask questions about range, repeats, uncertainty and whether the conclusion follows. A tutor may not choose the question, design the method, process the student's data, write or rewrite any section, or edit a draft into shape.

We also do not supply syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes or grade-boundary tables as downloads, because they belong to the IB and your child's school has legitimate access to the assessment material. A tutor working from them in a session is ordinary practice. At least one site ranking for these searches sells completed internal assessments outright; the consequence of buying one falls on the candidate, who can lose the diploma.

Dubai Festival City

The nearest international schools offering Diploma chemistry. Internal assessment deadlines here tend to be early, which pulls the investigation question decision forward into the DP1 spring.

Mirdif

IB continuum provision, so students arrive in DP chemistry from MYP integrated science. Design instincts are usually good and mole arithmetic usually is not, which sets the shape of a first block.

Al Warqa

Large British and Indian curriculum schools, so students from this direction more often come through IGCSE chemistry with solid calculations and no experience of thermodynamic reasoning.

Al Mizhar and Al Khawaneej

American-curriculum and British provision with late school runs. Chemistry sessions from these directions realistically start at 6.30pm or 7pm on a weeknight.

Academic City

Senior schools and university campuses to the south. Relevant because medicine, pharmacy and chemical engineering entry requirements are why Higher Level chemistry is being taken in the first place.

Al Qusais and Al Nahda

North-east along the metro corridor, thirty-five to forty minutes at pickup. Door times after 4.10pm, so evening slots here sit late.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Say which of the two problems it is

Organic content, or calculation accuracy. Those sit at opposite ends of the calendar and need opposite purchases, and a marked paper tells a tutor which in a few minutes without any description from the parent.

  2. 02

    Send the marked script

Not the grade. We sort the lost marks into calculation slips, sign and unit errors, command-term misreadings and content gaps, and count them. The largest category sets the plan and is frequently not the one the student expected.

  3. 03

    Align with your school's scheme

Schools in the eastern suburbs reach organic at different points, so we ask what is being taught this month. A session that repairs this week's topic is worth several that teach a different part of the syllabus well.

  4. 04

Trial lesson, forty-five minutes, live online

Real chemistry with the script or the draft on a shared screen, and no card details collected. Afterwards you get a written note naming the calculation type, the content area and the habit to attack first.

  5. 05

Track the error count, not the grade

Marks lost to signs, units and figures should fall within a month if the drilling is working. That number is visible to a parent without any chemistry, which makes it the right measure to agree at the start.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Two problems, priced and timed differently

Organic is content and belongs in the DP2 autumn with a specialist. Calculation accuracy is a habit, responds to drilling at any point including the final fortnight, and does not need the top of the rate card. Buying them the other way round is the standard mistake.

Every calculation error named

Moles, limiting reagents, yields, enthalpy signs, bond enthalpy columns, logarithms in pH work, equilibrium powers and electron counts in half-equations. Predictable errors are fixable errors, and the list is short enough to work through.

Investigation questions tested for feasibility

Whether the variable can be varied enough, and whether the effect exceeds its own uncertainty on school apparatus. Many chemically interesting questions fail that test, and the failure is only visible after the data comes back flat.

Honest about anomalous data

An anomaly identified and excluded with a reason earns credit. One quietly deleted earns nothing and risks a malpractice finding. We tell students that before the temptation arrives rather than afterwards.

Online, and better for mechanisms and spectra

A mechanism drawn and redrawn on a shared screen, a spectrum annotated in place, and your child's own titration data open in front of both people. Home visits are an India-only service for us, and the screen is the superior tool here.

No grade promises, ever

Medicine and pharmacy applicants need specific grades and nobody can guarantee one. Entry requirements come from the university's own course page, UAE equivalency comes from the Ministry, and we describe both rather than claiming to deliver either.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Nad Al Hamar: your questions answered

Why has our child's chemistry collapsed since organic chemistry started?+

Because organic asks for a different kind of thinking from everything before it. Until then, chemistry can be carried on recall and careful arithmetic. Organic asks why a reagent attacks a particular carbon, what the intermediate looks like, and at Higher Level which of two pathways a substrate will follow. A student who has succeeded by memorising loses their main tool. The remedy is six to eight hours on electron availability, polarity and leaving groups, which transfers across the whole topic rather than to drilled questions.

Which chemistry calculation does our child most likely get wrong?+

Statistically, enthalpy signs and unit conversion. A correct magnitude attached to the wrong direction is the most common single-mark loss in the subject, and a volume left in millilitres is the second. After those come limiting reagent questions answered using the reagent named first, percentage yields built on an unbalanced equation, and logarithm slips in pH work. Take a marked paper, count the losses by type, and the largest category is the next month's drilling rather than a guess.

Is it too late to rebuild organic chemistry in the spring of DP2?+

For the conceptual rebuild, largely yes. Organic is content and content needs time to settle, so the DP2 autumn term is the last honest window, and a provider selling an organic programme in April should be asked which other subject's revision it will displace. What the spring can still do is structure determination practice, where infrared, mass spectrometry and nuclear magnetic resonance data are used together to identify unknowns. That is pattern recognition, improves with volume, and responds well to late drilling.

What makes a chemistry investigation question actually workable?+

The independent variable has to be variable across a real span, and the measured quantity has to change by substantially more than its own uncertainty on school apparatus. Concentration-dependence and temperature-dependence questions usually satisfy both. Comparing three named substances gives only three discrete points, which permits a comparison and not an analysis, so the processing marks have nowhere to go. Questions resting on mass changes of a few hundredths of a gram fail on the balance rather than on the chemistry.

Our data shows no trend at all. What do we do now?+

Write it up honestly, because that scores considerably better than the alternative. A data set with no trend is a genuine finding: the uncertainty can be discussed, the method critiqued, and specific improvements proposed, all of which earns credit under evaluation. What must not happen is tidying, which means dropping an awkward reading without justification, adjusting values toward the expected answer, or repeating only the measurements that behaved. That is falsification, moderators often detect it, and a malpractice finding falls on the candidate.

How do we stop losing single marks to significant figures and units?+

Install a routine rather than learn a rule. Work to full precision throughout and round once at the end to three significant figures unless the question specifies otherwise. Convert units before any arithmetic begins rather than during it. State exothermic or endothermic before writing the enthalpy magnitude so the sign cannot drift. Then run a fixed thirty-second check at the end of every numerical question. Count the marks these conventions cost on a marked paper; the total usually exceeds any single content topic.

What do we buy if our child came from MYP rather than IGCSE chemistry?+

Mole automaticity, first and cheaply. A student from MYP integrated science typically arrives with better investigation instincts, because the MYP criteria rehearse design and processing, and with lighter quantitative practice than a separate IGCSE chemistry course provides. Six to eight short sessions on moles from mass, moles from concentration and the stoichiometric ratio removes the handicap. A student arriving from IGCSE chemistry has the reverse profile and needs method design rather than arithmetic.

Does Higher Level chemistry need to be paired with a particular maths course?+

It helps, and the pairing matters most in acids and bases and in Higher Level kinetics. Logarithm handling for pH, graph interpretation for order of reaction and algebraic rearrangement throughout are mathematics skills examined inside chemistry questions. Analysis and Approaches builds them; Applications and Interpretation trims some of them in favour of statistics. A student in the second pairing is not disadvantaged conceptually and is handicapped mechanically, and a short block on logarithms and rearrangement fixes most of it.

What does a chemistry specialist cost monthly in Dubai?+

Using market figures: Bestimate estimates a weekly one-hour arrangement at AED 600 to 1,200 a month in the middle band and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for an examination-year specialist. An online package of eight sessions appears at about AED 799 a month, and in-home packages at AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour visits. Hourly, qualified online tutors are quoted at AED 150 to 300 and specialists at AED 200 to 450 and above. Those are others' published figures, read in October 2026.

Which schools near Nad Al Hamar run Diploma chemistry at Higher Level?+

The Dubai Festival City cluster, including Deira International School and Universal American School Dubai, and the Mirdif belt, including Uptown International School, with other eastern-suburb schools taking students to IGCSE before a Diploma or A Level split. Whether Higher Level chemistry runs in a given year can depend on cohort size, so ask the coordinator rather than assume. Schools are named here as local context only, with no affiliation, partnership or endorsement implied.

Our child needs chemistry for medicine. Can you guarantee the grade?+

No, and no honest provider can. Medicine, dentistry, pharmacy and veterinary courses commonly require chemistry, often at Higher Level and sometimes at a stated grade, but entry requirements are published course by course and university by university and vary more than general advice implies. Read the chemistry line on the exact course page. What we can offer is work on the components where marks are currently being lost. Nobody should promise you a particular grade or a university place, and an offer to do either is not worth considering.

How often should chemistry sessions run in the final term?+

Twice a week in short sessions if the problem is calculation accuracy, because that is habit work and frequency beats depth. Once a week at ninety minutes if the problem is structure determination or extended-response technique, where a full set of questions plus a proper review needs a longer sitting. Beyond two sessions a week the limiting factor becomes the student's own practice time across six subjects, and additional taught hours start displacing the consolidation they depend on.

Will you check our write-up before it goes to the teacher?+

We will read your child's own draft and ask questions about it: why this range, what justifies that number of repeats, where does this uncertainty come from, does the conclusion follow from the processing, is this section at the level you are claiming. We will not write, rewrite or edit any part of it, process the data, design the method or choose the question. If your child cannot explain every line of the write-up to their teacher without hesitation, the help went too far and that is their exposure, not ours.

Can a chemistry tutor also cover biology or physics for the same child?+

Sometimes, and the overlap is real in specific places: uncertainty handling and graph work transfer across all three sciences, and the mathematics inside physics and chemistry is largely the same mathematics. What does not transfer is Higher Level content. A tutor claiming Higher Level depth in chemistry, physics and biology at once is claiming three specialisms. For a student whose problem is a single weak subject, one specialist beats one generalist; for a student whose problem is processing data, one tutor across the sciences can work well.

Decide which chemistry problem you have, then buy for it

Organic chemistry and calculation accuracy are different problems with different deadlines. Organic is content, needs a specialist, and belongs in the autumn term of DP2 before the window closes. Calculation accuracy is a habit, needs frequency rather than seniority, and can be installed at any point including the final fortnight. A marked script tells you which you are dealing with in minutes. Screen the investigation question before the laboratory is booked, because afterwards nothing can be done about it. Teaching is one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time; home tutoring is an India-only service. Last reviewed 22 October 2026.
